“You’re avoiding me.”
Your eyes didn’t move away from the horizon when you heard Nikolai’s voice, though you felt your muscles tense.
“Clearly not well enough,” you remarked. “Seeing as you found me.”
“You know I’ll always find you,” Nikolai murmured. “But that means little if you will not talk to me.”
Of course you were not talking to him. You did not know how to talk to him—not when you so clearly didn’t understand the issue plaguing you.
All you’d ever known was the life of a Grisha. You were tested when you were young, revealed to be a Tidemaker, and whisked away to the Little Palace, where you’d been honing your abilities ever since. You rebelled against the one thing you knew, joined the side of the Sun Summoner, and now you were in the midst of a war for the very survival of your people.
There were so few Tidemakers left after the Darkling’s massacre, which meant Alina and Nikolai were counting on you more than ever in their fight to reclaim Ravka.
But when you needed your powers most, they disappeared.
You— you just didn’t understand, because it didn’t make sense. You’d spent years studying the Small Science and how to wield it, how to manipulate the water around you no matter how miniscule.
This was not merzost. You had never tampered with the way of the world, never attempted to bastardize the abilities you’d been granted.
Like called to like. There was a part of you that connected to the water, that allowed you the affinity for all of this.
You had just… lost it. For no apparent reason.
“There is nothing to talk about,” you stated simply. The cold of the railing shocked your fingers as you set your hand down, but you welcomed any sort of feeling.
“Do not be ridiculous,” Nikolai said wryly. He came out onto the balcony and stopped beside you. You could see him looking at you through your peripherals, could feel his intent gaze. “Nobody avoids me unless they have a reason.”
You huffed a bitter laugh. “I certainly have a reason, moi tsarevich.”
“So we’ve gone back to titles?” Nikolai’s lips quirked up. “Shall I start referring to you as Grisha? Tidemaker, even?”
You scoffed. “That would be inaccurate.”
“Ah,” he nodded. “We’ve reached the root of the problem.”
“We hardly did anything,” you said. “Do you talk just to hear the sound of your own voice?”
“I do, as a matter of fact,” Nikolai said. “But you should know your scornful words have no effect when I’m aware of your true feelings.”
“If you are aware of my true feelings, you should know I would like to be left alone.”
“You want to be left alone because you feel useless without your power,” he said. “Any man worth their salt would not fall to that, and fortunately, I’m worth quite a lot.”
You finally turned to look at Nikolai, though you could not muster the full force of your anger when you did. He had that slight smile still, the glint in his eyes, and all you could think was that you didn't even deserve this kindness.
“Because I am,” you said.
He shook his head. “You are not. Far from useless, actually.”
“You served in the First Army, didn’t you?”
“I hardly see how that’s relevant—”
“Just answer my question.”
“...Yes,” he said. “I was infantry. The 22nd Regiment.”
“And if you had lost the ability to shoot a gun, would you be allowed to stay on the front lines?”
Nikolai shook his head. “I will not participate in hypotheticals to help you feel worse.”
“Because you know it’s true.” You looked back out at the horizon—the sun was steadily setting. “I have no place here anymore.”
He said your name with a slight huff. “That is not true.”
“I’m not Grisha anymore!” you exclaimed as you whirled back to face him. “The only reason I have ever gotten anywhere— the only reason I am here, the only reason I ever met you in the first place— it is all because of my power.” You pulled your jacket tighter around yourself in the wake of a cold wind. The material was noticeably thinner than your kefta, but you could not bring yourself to wear it anymore. “I’m useless now. To— to Ravka, to the Second Army— to you.”
His brows furrowed. “You are not useless to Ravka— and you could never be useless to me.” You averted your eyes, unable to meet the full weight of his softened gaze, and his frown deepened. “That’s what this is about then?
“Don’t act like it’s so ridiculous,” you muttered.
Nikolai had the nerve to laugh, and you glared at him. He held up his hands in defense, but he could not fully bite back his smile.
“I apologize, lapushka, but I did not even consider that as an option for why you were so upset.”
Nikolai took your hands in his, hands that had been the key to your power the entire life, that were failing you, and he held them like nothing else in the world mattered. “Do you know how absurd the thought of me not loving you is?”
You glanced away, but Nikolai gently cupped your chin with a few fingers and tilted you back to meet his eyes.
“Because it is,” he continued, letting his hand fall back down to grasp yours. “I love you with everything in me. I love you because you are you—not because of your powers. Not because you are Grisha.”
“Who am I if I am not Grisha?” Your voice came out as little more than a whisper, near a desperate plea. You’d never felt weaker, never felt smaller. The only thing you’d known all your life had been ripped away from you, and you felt as if you’d been shoved into an endless void.
Nikolai said your name softly as he squeezed your hands. “You are a soldier of great renown. A revolutionary on the right side of history. The most loyal friend someone can have. And lest you somehow manage to forget it, you are the woman I love.”
“You deserve better than—” you swallowed the lump in your throat. “—than some broken, failed Grisha.”
“You are not broken,” Nikolai murmured, and he never looked away from your eyes as he lifted your hand to press a kiss to the back of it. “We are merely on… a different path.”
“A different path,” you repeated, and you could not help your wry laugh.
“Yes,” he nodded. “And we will go down every step of it together. Do you understand that?”
Nikolai fought for everything he had, despite his standing as a Lantsov. He was a soldier on the front lines, he rose through the ranks on the sea under a pseudonym, and now he was clawing his way through useless formalities in order to take back the throne that he deserved.
And here you were—someone who was given everything because of some power inside you. And now you didn’t even have that.
It just did not seem right. It did not make sense. For a man as powerful as Nikolai to stick by your side despite such a misgiving.
“If you don’t, that is alright.” Nikolai shrugged. “I will just have to spend extra time showing you how much I revere your very being.”
“Nikolai,” you murmured, and his grip on your hands tightened.
“I cannot pretend to understand what you are going through,” he said. “I cannot lose what you have lost because I’ve never had it in the first place. But I can promise you wholeheartedly that we will figure out what is wrong. Together.”
“And what if we don’t?” you asked. You couldn’t help it.
“Then nothing will change,” Nikolai vowed. “Milaya, nothing can tear me away from you, whether you are Grisha or not. Do you understand that?”
A part of you still could not. Who were you if you were not of use?
But when you met Nikolai’s eyes, those beautiful hazel eyes that seemed to glow with the sunset, full of softness and admiration and love, you found that you could start to.
You may not have believed in yourself, but Nikolai did. And that had to mean something.
“I’m beginning to,” you murmured.
“Good,” he said, and his lips quirked into a smile. “But fear not, milaya. I hold enough love for you inside of me for the both of us in the meantime.”

Nikolai lantsov x reader. Nikolai and reader having a sarcastic bit of banter on the ballroom floor.
Appearances : Nikolai Lantsov x Reader
Descr: 3.1k wc, Newly-crowned Nikolai and y/n must make it appear as though the King is actually considering an arranged marriage. Can they both keep up the act or will their bantering lead to the death of said appearances? Fluff, hurt-comfort, bantering
Warnings: discussions of arranged marriages, Grishaverse topics, slight angst, a few curses, flirting, slightly suggestive at the end

Y/n ran her shaking hands downwards on her white ball gown. Don’t look at him. That’ll only make it worse. She steadied her breath as she traipsed through the crowd of gathered Princesses. Don’t look at them either. They’re far too beautiful and regal. Don’t be jealous. Her heels clicked against the ballroom floor under her feet. While her dress muffled the sound, making it so y/n could hardly hear it, her sanity clung to the barely audible noise. She could stress over trying to maintain her careless and stoic facade, or she could focus on simply keeping herself on her feet instead of tripping. Which would be simple enough if it weren’t for the gaggle of Princesses currently flirting with her boyfriend.
Nikolai was Ravka’s recently coronated King. As such, his advisors suggested it would be best to keep his options open. Or, at least make it seem as though he was. Zoya in particular, had pointed out that by doing so it allowed Nikolai and Ravka to seek treaties and other offerings from various territories interested in forming an arranged marriage with the new Ravkan King. Truth be told, Nikolai had no intention of actually agreeing to any proposed marriage with the Princesses that had been frequenting the castle off and on for the last few months. And quite frankly, he despised having to pretend otherwise. Especially when it meant he had to watch the woman he actually had such feelings for be pushed aside. Nikolai knew this was what his country needed. After all, such appearances had already warranted Ravka two peace treaties and a year’s supply of oats; deals which they’d written to remain even when he announced he would not be marrying any of the Princesses of the partner lands.
Y/n stepped into the hallway, letting her eyes wander over the ornate marble walls for distraction. Her fingers trailed over the sculpted hills and valleys. A light smile formed as she felt the ridges of the Lantsov crest under her fingertips.
Nikolai leaned his shoulder blades against the edge where the doorway to the ballroom met the hallway wall. Y/n had wandered out here randomly. Was something troubling her? Nikolai’s worries were silenced and he grinned to himself as he silently watched y/n rub the ornate wall. When she turned around and noticed his presence, his smile shifted into a flirtatious smirk. “What’s a beautiful girl like you doing out here?”
Y/n shot Nikolai an irritated look. Really?!
Nikolai’s smirk disappeared. Had he done something? “Milaya?” Nikolai squinted in question. He rose from his relaxed position against the doorframe in order to move closer to her.
“Nikolai,” y/n responded stiffly, pointedly looking behind him towards the ballroom teeming with royal suitors. They were sure to suspect something if they’d heard his flirtations. Besides, he should be in there wooing them instead. The thought made her chest tighten.
Following y/n’s explanation without having to actually look towards where she was staring, Nikolai shrugged casually. “I’d rather be here with you,” he flirted. A small and sincere but playful smile donned his face.
Y/n sighed quietly. Her eyes flickered to her feet as her toes moved the points of them side to side. “Nik,” she whispered before biting her bottom lip.
The corners of Nikolai’s mouth rose, head tilting to the side slightly. His eyes practically glistened as he took in y/n’s reaction. It was a simple truth. A compliment, perhaps. But a simple truth nonetheless. And yet, here she was, flustered and bashful. Even after nearly five years. Nikolai couldn’t help the pride that swelled in his heart as he gazed at her.
“What is it darling?” Nikolai cooed, moving closer to y/n. “Am I truly the lucky man who gets to earn such a bashful reaction over stating a basic fact?” He strode up to her, ready to wrap her in his arms.
“Stop,” y/n whined. Her voice was soft but she still commanded her eyes to look up from the ground. She had to get him to stop. People could be watching. They had appearances to uphold.
“What?”
“You know what!” Y/n scolded with a shake of her head. When Nikolai feigned innocence, she huffed. Her eyes moved away from hazel ones as she prepared to explain herself. Even though he already knew. “You're being all cute and sweet,” she murmured, eyeing the intricacies of the engravings on the wall beside her yet again. “It’s making me want to kiss you”. Her words came out breathy and hushed.
Nikolai’s pride formed a smirk on his face. “Well,” he began, his right hand finding y/n’s chin. He turned her head towards him slowly, “you know…it is my job to make sure you want for nothing”.
Damn those coruscating eyes of his. Damn the obnoxiously flawless skin. And damn that mesmerizing smile he was wearing. Taking a slightly shaky but deep breath, y/n steeled herself. “Actually,” she corrected, taking a step back until she broke contact with Nikolai’s hand. “Moi tsar, your job is upholding an appearance”. As painful as the reminder was, they both needed it. Especially given the way he was looking at her presently. “Which, you’re not doing very well right now,” she criticized.
“Oh?” Nikolai questioned, intrigued. He quirked his left brow as he stepped nearer to y/n. “And why do you say that?”
Y/n gave Nikolai a knowing look. Rolling her eyes, she made her way to the middle of the hallway. Closer to the ballroom she’d been trying to escape. Although truthfully it wasn’t the room itself that had made her nauseated. That was a result of the people in said room. The situation that had brought said guests to the ballroom in the first place. Yet, it was precisely that situation she needed to remind Nikolai, her King, of. “You’re supposed to be out there flirting with them,” she said, tone not doing much to hide her annoyance.
“Look at you,” Nikolai hummed, observing the look of disgust on y/n’s face. “So jealous, huh?" He teased, meeting her in the middle of the hallway.
“Shut the hell up."
“Aww, you're blushing. I like that look on you,” Nikolai admitted. It made her smile somehow even more radiant. He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and playfully ruffled her hair. He chuckled and grinned as she grumbled at his behavior.
“Go tend to your guests,” y/n scoffed, moving out of Nikolai’s arms.
“You don’t need to be jealous, Solnyshka,” Nikolai promised quietly. His body instinctively reached for her.
“I know,” y/n nodded in reassurance. “I’m merely annoyed,” she said defensively. She crossed her arms over her chest as she eyed Nikolai. “You’d be feeling same if I flirted with you but you couldn’t act on it”.
Nikolai’s arms lowered back to his sides as the tone of their interaction shifted. His smirk returned and he shook his head. “I have had years of maintaining an image,” he reminded her, “I’d be fine”.
Y/N’s gaze narrowed. She pursed her lips, clenching her jaw. “And you are saying that I cannot?”
Nikolai looked around, teasingly hesitating to answer. He shrugged confidently. “Don’t worry, it’s flattering,” he smirked.
“Sweetheart,” y/n taunted, nearing Nikolai. Her lips curled into a smirk as Nikolai’s cheeks flushed ever so slightly, eyes widening at her sudden choice of words. “I have to pretend as if I’m okay with this whole ordeal,” she reminded him, nodding her head towards the ballroom, “on a far too frequent basis”.
Nikolai frowned, his voice taking on a serious tone for a moment. “You know I despise putting you in that type of environment,” he sighed.
Y/n shrugged off the idea so as to not focus too much on it. “I’m merely saying if i can handle the horde of beautiful buffoons fawning all over you without screaming how you’re mine-“.
“Yours, hmm?” Nikolai questioned, smirk returning. When y/n simply rolled her eyes in response, he dropped his smirk and grabbed her hand. “I wouldn’t want to be anyone else’s, it’s just for-“.
“Appearances,” y/n finishes for Nikolai, “I know.” She nodded with an understanding smile. “What I was saying, is that if I can handle upholding such appearances as though we’re not together during these events, I can handle doing so despite your persistent flirtations as well”.
“We’ll see,” Nikolai murmured. “We’ll see?” Y/n echoed in question as he slowly let go of her hand, walking backwards towards the doorway. “I really ought to be returning,” he sighed sincerely. “But,” he continued, eyes glowing as he added, “we can test out your theory”.
“That's almost exactly the opposite of what I was getting at.”
“But where’s the fun in that?” Nikolai winked before dipping back into the ballroom.

“Do you have a map?” Nikolai’s voice inquired suddenly while y/n was talking with an ambassador from a nearby country. She turned to face the interruption. However, before she could respond, Nikolai leaned in until his lips were nearly touching her ear.
Nikolai lowered his voice, whispering into y/n’s ear, “because, I’m afraid I’ve gotten lost in your eyes”.
Y/n visibly stiffened, faking a cough to hide her surprise at Nikolai’s unexpected advance. Now was so not the time. At least the ambassador seemed to have taken Nikolai’s whispering as it simply being a private inquiry follow up to the question Nikolai had asked when he first approached. She gave the ambassador an apologetically appreciative smile before gripping Nikolai’s arm and pulling him away from the man.
“Moi tsar,” y/n groaned pointedly. “Must you flirt in the most awkward situations?” She hissed, looking back at the man whom she was trying to arrange a deal with.
“You know you love it,” Nikolai winked slyly. He used the arm that y/n wasn’t currently gripping to lightly pull her fingers off of his forearm. Once successful, he squeezed her hand lovingly before slowly dropping it as he moved to return to his earlier responsibilities.

“Ahh, why if it isn’t the lovely Ms. y/l/n,” Nikolai hummed as he approached y/n. He held in a chuckle as he noticed her trying to hide her slight annoyance over his presence. “Do you need a knight in shining armor? Because I’m prepared to rescue you,” Nikolai cooed in greeting as he reached her side.
Y/n tried not to roll her eyes. The man she’d been talking with was the father of one of the Princesses Nikolai was supposed to be courting. Or, pretending to court anyways. The man was widely known for being overly chatty, a reputation so well known even the man himself had commented on it upon meeting them the first time. Nikolai was seemingly relying on the man’s self-awareness of this fact to be able to make such a pick-up line type greeting seem normal.
“The only rescuing I need is from your interruptions,” y/n remarked in annoyance before returning to the conversation. “Your Majesty,” she added when she saw the man was a bit concerned about the response.
Nikolai chuckled quietly, “very well, milaya”. He was humming as he left.
“The King is quite charming in his pursuits, isn’t he?” The man inquired, eyeing y/n closely.
Y/n hummed tightly. “Some might take his charisma that way,” she indirectly revised, hoping to reassure the man that Nikolai wasn’t flirting with her. That she wasn’t one of his pursuits. After all, she wasn’t supposed to be an option. Much less a threat to any of the women present or their families.

“Thank you for that explanation. Your knowledge on this matter is very vast, Ms. Y/l/n, you’re quite intelligent,” Prince Cyril Whitlock of Evandaria, a small country several territories to the east of Ravka, complimented.
Nikolai had already been standing beside y/n, having called her over when Prince Whitlock had asked about a topic he knew y/n was passionate was about. Nikolai turned to smile at her. “I agree Cyril”. “Miss y/l/n, are you certain you’re not secretly a princess?” He questioned, resisting the desire to curl his smile into a smirk.
The Prince chuckled at the seemingly innocent compliment before he excused himself to go check on his sister.
Once the Prince was out of earshot, Y/n raised a brow, turning to face Nikolai. He knew she wasn’t a Princess. What was he getting at?
“After all, you’ve ruled my heart from the moment I saw you,” Nikolai concluded, a faint smirk growing.
Despite the flustered expression y/n knew she was now displaying, she pushed to regain her composure. Over Nikolai’s shoulder, she could see the girls saw girls watching her closely. Jealous. Intimidated. Y/n shook her head as she tried to focus on keeping up their appearances. “It must be hard with your sense of direction, never being able to find your way to a decent pickup line."
Nikolai widened his eyes dramatically and guffawed. He shook his head, lifting y/n’s hand and kissing the back of it as he whispered her name lovingly in exit.

Y/n gnawed at her inner cheek as she watched Nikolai’s royal guests continue to try to get his attention. They looked like hyperactive peacocks, constantly fluffing their dresses and puffing their chests to accentuate their cleavage.
Nikolai blindly made his way to y/n, approaching from behind. Yet, he could tell from her body language that she was frowning. Time to fix that. “You're so cute when you pout like that,” murmured upon reaching her side.
Y/n wanted to and did in fact began to protest that she was not pouting. But she knew better. She’d managed to keep a full scowl off her face. And at this point that was impressive enough. Nikolai had obviously caught her. But she wasn’t going to let him continue to tease her for it. She feared if she did, she would certainly be risking not upholding the false premise that she didn’t have feelings for him. “It's a real shame nobody asked for your opinion."
“Oh really,” Nikolai purred smugly as he leaned closer. “So you don’t want me to whisper in your ear just how radiant I think you look tonight?”
“N-no.”
“That wasn’t very convincing, love”.
Y/n slowly spun to face Nikolai. She was wanting to cave from the constant flirtations and the way he was currently looking at her. Those loving hazel eyes openly admiring her. But it wasn’t up to her. She had to uphold the agreed upon appearances Nikolai’s council had settled on. Even if it was starting to hurt. Even if she craved nothing more than to just pull him to her and devour his lips the way she wanted.
“I can't concentrate, when you look at me like that darling,” Nikolai whispered, voice sincere and loving as he looked into y/n’s adoring gaze.
“I won’t apologize given I’d rather you be concentrating on me instead, so...” y/n shrugged weakly.
Nikolai sensed the that while their banter had started out innocently playful, he’d made this situation hurt more for her. Fuck. That was the opposite of his intentions. “You know I too, would rather me be concentrating on you instead,” he whispered, grabbing y/n’s hand and pulling her to him.
As Nikolai snaked his arms around her waist, he beamed lovingly down at her. “Saints, I’ve missed being able to do this,” he murmured.
“Better be careful or they're all gonna think they have no chance with you, they’ll think you're only mine,” y/n warned. It physically hurt to resist the desire to melt into Nikolai’s embrace. But half of the ballroom’s audience were currently staring them down.
“Know,” Nikolai corrected warmly. “They’ll know they have no chance because I’m all yours,” he smiled. “And so be it. Let them.” With that, he lovingly tilted her head up and pressed his lips to hers.
“Are you crazy?” Y/n asked breathlessly, looking around and seeing wide and angry eyes starting at her.
“For you? Yes, Milaya,” Nikolai winked, flirtation back knowing he’d ended the problem at hand.
“Nik!” Y/n hissed. “Do you realize what you just did?” She scolded, although she didn’t move to get out of his hold.
“‘Course I do,” Nikolai smiled. “I showed everyone here including Prince Cyril that you're mine”.
“We both know that's not why you did it, you’re not a jealous man,” y/n argued. “Regardless though Kolya…” She sighed. “You know you just made every girl here feel like they never had a shot with you”, she murmured quietly. She could still feel the piercing eyes of the angry Princesses on them.
Nikolai casually shrugged, “I mean, they didn't.” “You do know that right?” He squinted worryingly.
Y/n smiled softly. “I know, Moi Tsar,” she cooed, “but Zoya wants you to maintain an appearance as though-”
“Damn with appearances,” Nikolai huffed, tugging y/n closer by the hold he had on her waist. “I’m the King, and if I want to kiss and dance with my nastoyashchaya lyubov in front of others, so be it”.
Trying to hide the impact Nikolai’s nicknames, words, declaration, and public display of affection had on her, y/n decided to return to their earlier banter. “And what if she doesn't wish to dance with you?”
Nikolai’s brows rose as he asked, “are you serious?”
“You’re lucky you’re cute cause you’re not always so smart,” y/n teased smugly.
Nikolai beamed at y/n having returned to their normal banter. She was feeling better. She knew he loved her and only her. He shook his head lovingly, tightening his arms around her to hold her even closer. “I am damnably handsome,” he agreed, “but I’ll have you recall that I’m also-”.
“Brave in battle,” y/n said, quoting Nikolai’s previous account of himself when masquerading as Sturmhond. “Smart as a whip,” she added, knowing that was the addition he had planned to make in protest to her teasing about his intellect.
“I’m also an excellent dancer,” Nikolai added with a grin as he too quoted himself. He stepped back just enough to grab y/n’s hands in his. He moved her free hand to his shoulder before placing one his own empty hand on back on her lower back. As she leaned in to rest her head on his upper chest, he hummed softly. “Your forgetfulness over my intelligence suggests I might need to remind you of the many other things I excel at,” he whispered into her ear seductively, smirking when she buried her head further into his collarbone. “Saints I love you,” he cooed, craning his neck and tucking her head under his chin. Thank the Saints they were done with keeping the appearance as though they were merely friends. This was much better.

description; After a long day, Nikolai finds relief in you.
pairing; king!nikolai lantsov x fem!reader
genre; smut, fluff, established relationship
word count; 1.8k
warnings; 18+, somno!! (which automatically makes it dubcon, so don’t read if that makes you uncomfortable), reader is asleep for part of this but has consented (pls discuss boundaries with your partners guys), fingering, unprotected sex (a no no irl), creampie, oral (fem-receiving), cum-eating, swearing, nikolai needs his own warning, christ this is kind of depraved (but also tender?)
notes; i have been thinking a LOT of thoughts lately. this is the first time i’ve ever written smut, so it’s probably terrible haha never thought i’d be writing anything explicit but i was not strong enough to resist this man. but i think this is a one and done type of thing. i do have a few other nikolai works in my drafts though, so if i ever get around to it, i’ll finish and post them
notes ii; i saw that s&b got cancelled :(( i’ve never seen it nor have i read any of the books… (sorry if nikolai is ooc) but hopefully i’ll get around to either of them eventually. mostly im sad bc there likely won’t be a resurgence in nikolai fics, and i already feel like i’m in a drought. i mean look at him!! (i <3 gif makers)
Nikolai is exhausted.
It’s late when he returns to his chambers. His mind is still filled with all the tasks he had performed that day while thinking about all the ones left for tomorrow. But his eyes had grown too bleary while staring at a document (a trade agreement perhaps?), reading the same line for the hundredth time before he was finally lured by the idea of slipping into bed with you. He was hoping he would come back before you went off to bed, but it was already well into the night, and you would be asleep by now. He enters your shared room and finds you sleeping the night away.
He’s not sure how you do it. He thinks the bed is much too big to sleep in alone and can no longer slip into a restful slumber without you. When Nikolai catches a glimpse of your face, soft and relaxed—not a worry in sight—his heart flutters. A smile curls his lips at the sight of you while he changes out of his clothes for the day.
Once he frees himself of his shirt and trousers, he slips on a soft pair of pants. He makes it towards the foot of the bed, noticing that the comforter was no longer tucked in. Instead, it pools around your calves. You’re laying on your side, hands tucked beneath your head. His hazel eyes stick onto the expanse of your skin, and before he realizes it, his fingers are delicately wrapping around your leg. You’re cold to the touch. He makes a move to cover your skin with the rest of the comforter.
However, you’re more enticing than you realize. He tells you so often. You find it difficult to believe, but it’s just the plain truth, and Nikolai is an honest man.
Most of the time, of course.
With a small breath, Nikolai pushes the blanket further up, revealing more and more of your legs. His eyes, tired but greedy, devour the sight. When he reaches past your thighs, his lips part when he realizes that you’re completely bare. You must have been waiting for him.
He nearly groans.
You had given him your explicit permission to do this before, but Nikolai had never been given the opportunity. Until now. Is this what you were hoping for when you fell into the land of dreams? Saints, the thought sends blood rushing down to his cock.
Your slit is now exposed to the cool air, and you squirm a little. His eyes glance up at your face, wondering if he had already woken you. No matter though, he wouldn’t mind having you either way. His fingers dance along your thighs, edging closer to your cunt. You’re gorgeous, he thinks before running a finger over your soft folds. When he reaches your hole though, he feels a familiar stickiness. Had you already touched yourself? Was that how you were able to fall asleep in this bed that was much too large for just one of you?
He collects some of your release on his finger. There’s not a lot that hasn’t already dried, but just enough to start circling your clit without too much friction (with some help from his saliva). He hears you breathe in deeply as he draws lazy circles with his finger. With his other hand, he palms himself through his pants, already hardening from both the sight and feel of you.
Part of him wants to see the rest of you, but he doesn’t want to leave you cold. He wonders if you’re wearing anything at all—the answer is likely not. It’s not long before you’re wet enough, and he’s able slip two entire fingers into you. You’re already clenching around his hand, a soft whimper leaving your pretty lips.
Nikolai could come from this alone.
You squirm again, unknowingly beginning to grind into his hand. Nikolai watches your lips part, the prettiest sounds escaping your mouth. You’re nearly there. He can feel you tightening around his fingers, but he won’t let you come just yet. Right before your peak, he takes his fingers out of you. Your legs shake as he rubs the skin of your thigh soothingly.
He shrugs off his trousers, stepping out of them and freeing himself. The tip of his cock is red, and he uses his fingers to smear the pre-cum around it. He groans slightly as he pumps himself. With little patience left, he lines himself up with your entrance and lets out a soft sigh at the feeling of your wetness.
He drags his cock through your cunt, gathering your arousal. He slips into your warmth with a sharp exhale, feeling your tight, wet walls squeezing him. Nikolai has half a mind not to curse, not wanting to wake you. He holds the side of your leg with his hand and fights the urge to shut his eyes. He holds himself still for a few moments, and yet they feel like an eternity.
He wants to watch himself slide in and out of you. He pulls his hips back until only the tip of him is left before pushing back into you deeply. Nikolai starts a steady rhythm, pleasurable but slow enough to keep him from spilling into you too quickly.
A whine leaves your mouth, your face scrunching at the feeling of being stretched and filled. “N-nikolai?” Your voice is raspy and filled with sleep as your hand reaches up to rub your eyes. You can barely keep them open. It’s adorable. His cock hits a sensitive spot, causing you to moan out. “Shit.”
“Darling,” he greets as if he’s not buried deep inside you. He grins down at you and starts to thrust into you faster.
Nikolai beams when a bright laugh comes from your lips.
“This is a surprise,” you murmur, grinding down onto him.
“A pleasant one, I hope?”
“Very. When did you get back?”
“Not long ago… I wanted to finish everything before you fell asleep, but there was a lot of work left to do. I saw you looking just lovely in our bed and decided to surprise you.”
You smile sympathetically, knowing how busy your king is. The blanket, which was bunched up over your torso, is moved to the side by you, exposing the rest of your body to his eyes. He’s right. You aren’t wearing anything at all. You turn onto your back and reach down, lacing your fingers with his. “I’m glad you did. Though I do think some rest is in order for you. You look terrible.”
He scoffs, sounding bewildered at the notion that he could look anything less than perfect. “Terrible? You wound me, wife.”
“Only for the sake of keeping you humble, my king.” You let out a chuckle which bleeds into a moan when he thrusts into a particular spot.
“There?” he asks, pushing into the same place once more.
Pleasantly, you sigh with a nod. “And I only meant ‘terrible’ in the sense that you look exhausted. Otherwise, I suppose you’re pretty perfect.”
A soft smile takes over his features. “I know, darling.”
You moan his name, pulling him down into a kiss. “You feel so good.”
He returns your kiss, grunting at how tightly your walls are clenching around him. His fingers find your clit, rubbing tight circles. You cry out, and he swallows your sounds with another kiss.
“That’s it,” he coos as you bury your face in his shoulder.
“Nikolai,” you gasp. “I’m so—so close.”
“I know, darling. It’s going to feel so good. Let me take care of you.”
Nikolai feels your lips pressed against the column of his throat, placing wet kisses to his skin.
“Saints, please… I need you. I want you to fill me.”
He lets out a heavy groan, his eyes nearly rolling back as he moans out your name. “Don’t worry, I promise I will. Fuck, you’re so tight.” Nikolai begins to babble. “You’re doing so good for me, taking me so well… sound so pretty, so, so warm. Perfect… Shit, I’m close. You have to come first—Can you do that for me? Good girl.”
His fingers move even faster while he fucks himself into you. Your release hits you quickly as he pounds his length into your sopping cunt. You tighten around him, causing his hips to stutter before he finally spills himself inside of you. You whimper, feeling his hot cum fill you.
He collapses onto you, his cock still inside your spasming warmth. He wraps his arms around your body. It’s like he’s melted into you. You hold him close, both of your chests heaving. One of your hands finds a home in his blond curls, running your fingers through them in a way that always soothes him.
“I love you.”
He grins into your skin, pressing a kiss to your bare chest. “I love you too.”
A few minutes later, he pulls out, leaving you emptier than either of you would like. He stares down at your puffy lips, watching his cum drip out of you. In a daze, his fingers rub his release around your folds, eliciting a soft whine from you. He doesn’t know whether he wants to push it back inside you, to fill you up again, or to clean you up with his mouth.
He thinks all three would be agreeable.
Nikolai leaves a trail of kisses down your chest, stopping at your entrance. “Will you let me clean you up, darling?”
You raise your eyebrows at him. “You don’t mean with your mouth, do you?”
“C’mon, I haven’t gotten to do this in ages—and it’s my favorite. Let me taste you, love.” He says this between several kisses to your thighs.
You pull him closer, cupping his face with your hand and thumbing his cheekbone. “I just want to make sure you’re getting enough sleep, Kolya. You’re going to be so tired in the morning.”
“I’ll be fine,” he reassures you, “and even better if you let me do this.”
He tries to stifle a grin. You’re unable to resist him or deny him of anything he wants, and he likes to exploit this fact from time to time. Alright, perhaps all the time—especially when what he wants is you. Who were you to keep him from his heart’s desires?
You sigh in defeat. “Okay, fine, but you’re sleeping in with me all morning.”
“I wouldn’t want it any other way,” he answers, knowing just as well that he couldn’t say no to you either.
His tongue darts out, wetting his lips before he wraps them around your clit. He delights in the noises you make. Your legs nearly close around his head, but he places his hands on your thighs, keeping them spread. He licks between your folds, moaning at the taste of your shared release.
Nikolai looks up at you, meeting your gaze with a devious grin. “Darling, you taste delightful.”
“Nikolai,” you whine. “Please.”
The desperation in your voice is enough to make him hard again. He smiles, a softness in his eyes as he admires your blissed face. “Anything for you, darling,” he answers, putting his mouth back on your cunt, doing whatever he can to draw out those pretty noises from your lips again.

still here in the evening
Nikolai Lantsov x Reader
Summary: Part 2 of still here in the morning - Nikolai's mad at you. You don't know why. Maybe an injury will help secrets come to life?
Word Count: 2.2K
Warnings: Violence - guns, gangs and bullets, Blood, Injury, Misunderstandings.
The wind whipped through your hair as you looked out over the deck. You were less than half a day’s travel away from West Ravka - where you’d dock and stock up on supplies before heading back out to Novyi Zem.
You sighed. The past few weeks had been weird - ever since you and Nikolai had woken up together, he’d been ignoring you. It was almost as if you’d ceased to exist for him. No matter. Things should be back to normal after this stop in West Ravka. You could both forget it ever happened.
It was almost midnight when you finally tethered the ship to a dock in Os Kervo. Tamar and Tolya grabbed your arms and practically dragged you to a local inn to celebrate. You’d had a lot of successful missions over the past few months, and just because the Captain was opposed to any kind of revelry, doesn’t mean you should be.
You knew the truth. Nikolai was too scared of being discovered here in West Ravka - where people still knew what the monarchy looked like, even if they had been hidden away on the other side of the fold for years. Still, you let Tamar and Tolya drag you away and had a few beers to celebrate. Maybe more than a few beers.
Meanwhile, Nikolai was sat at his desk on the ship, nursing a pint of ale. He’d tried to distract himself with work - checking the ship’s logs and inventory, making a detailed list of everything they needed before they set off on their next adventure. This would be their longest trip yet, and they were going to need a lot of supplies, especially if they kept picking up new teammates. It wasn’t enough.
His mind kept drifting back to you. Mouse. His Mouse. Nikolai couldn’t recall when you went from being just another shipmate, to the only person who was ever on his mind, but he wasn’t complaining. Still, the words that passed between you and Tolya rung clear in his head.
“He’s no one… Someone from back home.” You didn’t like him like that. You were waiting from someone back home.
Nikolai shook his head trying to clear his mind. Obviously, a girl like you had someone waiting for them back home. That was why you chose to take an extra long pit stop every time you were back on Zemeni soil. It was obvious, wasn’t it? He turned back to his logs, trying to catalogue everything they had done over the past few months since they had been here in Os Kervo.
He had thought you were the one. The past few weeks had been difficult, trying to avoid conversation with you, trying to avoid being under your gaze. Nikolai knew that he had no self-control when it came to you - one look in his direction and he’d crumble again. And he deserved better than someone who just used him to ‘break his 'I don't sleep with crewmates' rule.’
He should’ve known something was up when you disappeared from his bed in the middle of the night, he thought, putting his journals away for safe-keeping and taking another swig of his ale. People don’t just disappear when they actually like someone.
He just didn’t think you capable of leading someone on so maliciously.
But maybe he read the signs wrong. You never explicitly said you wanted to sleep with him, did you? Nikolai racked his brains for anything you’d said to give him that impression, but nothing came to mind. Maybe his own feelings clouded his judgment.
Nikolai took another swig of his ale. The light buzz that accompanied every thought of you now made him reckless. Nikolai clenched his jaw, determination etched across his face, as he set out towards the bar where Tamar and Tolya had taken you, his mind racing with concern and unresolved questions. The dimly lit streets of Os Kervo blurred around him. He just wanted to get to you.
You slipped out of the bar, your heart pounding in your chest as you tried to keep your steps light and silent. Tamar and Tolya were relentless, always watching, trying to stop you from seeing Nikolai. They insisted that he wasn’t worth your time, that he was just in a bad mood, though they wouldn’t tell you why.
The moon hung high and cold above the narrow streets of Os Kervo, casting long shadows in the alleys. You didn’t dare look back, afraid that one glance would reveal your escape to Tamar and Tolya. The bar’s raucous laughter and clinking glasses faded behind you, swallowed by the city’s nighttime murmurs.
You turned a corner, your mind racing with thoughts of Nikolai. What had you done to deserve his wrath? Every attempt to remember came up empty, a frustrating blur of confusion. You didn't see the men until it was too late.
A flash of metal, the sound of a gun cocking—it snapped you out of your reverie. You stumbled, your boot catching on the uneven cobblestones, and you fell to your knees just as the first shot rang out. The alley exploded into chaos, bullets whizzing past you, ricocheting off the brick walls.
"Get down!" someone shouted, but the voice was lost in the cacophony. You scrambled to your feet, ducking low and trying to find cover. Two rival gangs, by the looks of it, were locked in a deadly exchange, their faces twisted with rage and fear.
You pressed yourself against the wall, breathing hard, your eyes scanning for an escape route. Another shot grazed the wall near your head, sending a shower of brick dust into your face. You wiped your eyes, blinking rapidly, and saw an opening—a narrow gap between two buildings, barely wide enough for a person.
Without thinking, you dashed for it, your heart pounding in your ears. A sharp pain tore through your shoulder, and you gasped, stumbling but not stopping. You squeezed into the gap, your shoulder screaming in protest, and kept moving, pushing through until you spilled out onto another street.
The shootout was behind you, the sounds of gunfire muffled by the buildings. You leaned against the wall, panting, clutching your shoulder. Blood seeped through your fingers, warm and sticky.
You collapsed to the ground, arm still covering the wound on your torso, but you couldn’t keep your body up any longer. You were close to the docks. Someone would find you.
“Hey, hey, hey…” A familiar voice floated across the heaviness, bouncing around in the back of your head. “Don’t move. I’ve got you.”
What did he say? Why couldn’t you move? You didn’t try though, instead nuzzling into the warmth of their hand.
“…didn’t hit anything important, you’re okay…”
What didn’t hit anything important?
“You’ll be fine. We’ll get you back to the ship and get you right.” A warm hand pressed down on your abdomen, putting pressure. A sharp pain cut through the fuzziness in your mind. Your eyes met familiar muddy green ones. Ones that you knew all to well.
Everything came rushing back, your train of thought screeching back into coherence, and you gasped, face pressed against a warm shoulder. Nikolai’s shoulder. Pain flared in your abdomen like lightning, and you cried out, gripping Nikolai’s arm.
“Easy, now, sweetheart,” he grunted, gathering you further into his arms as his hand turned more and more red. “Can’t have you move right now.”
Fuck, it hurt. You let out a small whine as Nikolai adjusted his hand. This pain was unlike you’d never felt before - you’d been stabbed before but it didn’t hurt like this.
“Nik- I- I…-” you stammered.
“Hey, it’s okay, mouse. You’re okay. Just focus on breathing.”
You bit down another cry, forcing air out through your nose, burying your head further into his shoulder.
“Good, that’s good… Can I move my hand, mouse?”
You caught a glimpse of him ripping off a section of his shirt - somewhere in the back of your mind, you were disappointed. You liked that shirt. It was a shame to ruin it.
“Nik, it- fuck…” You were really feeling it now, warm and sticky blood seeping down your stomach. Nikolai tried to tie the strip of fabric as tight as he could but the pain seemed to deepen with every movement, spreading up through your torso to the rest of your body, and you gritted your teeth to halt a pained scream.
Nikolai glanced down at your fear-stricken face with a mix of guilt and shame, but quickly offered you a tight-lipped smile. “Nothing new to us, huh, sweetheart?”
The nickname wasn’t lost on you, but you didn’t have the energy to comment on it. You felt woozy again, as if you were slowly floating away from your body. His muddy green eyes were getting harder and harder to focus on, your body begging for the respite of unconsciousness.
Nikolai moved quickly, carefully lifting you into his arms, his expression tightening as you winced. Despite the urgency, his touch was gentle, his concern evident in every movement. The streets of Os Kervo blurred past him as he made his way to the ship, his mind racing with worries and questions.
By the time you reached the ship, Tamar and Tolya were already there, alerted by some unspoken bond or perhaps just the unmistakable sense of something gone wrong. Tamar’s eyes widened when she saw you, and she immediately set to work, her hands moving quickly as she tried to staunch the bleeding and mend the torn flesh.
“They need to rest,” Tamar said, her voice firm despite the strain of her efforts. “They’ve lost a lot of blood.”
Nikolai nodded, his face a mask of controlled emotion. He watched as Tamar worked, feeling a knot of anxiety tightening in his chest. The thought of losing you, without ever understanding why you had caused him such pain, was unbearable. As Tamar finished and stepped back, Tolya helped her move you to a more comfortable position.
Nikolai paced the small cabin, his thoughts a whirlwind. He needed answers, but for now, he needed to be prepared for the worst. Turning to the twins, he took a deep breath. “I need to ask you about their… person back home,” he said, his voice low and urgent. “In case they don't make it.”
Tamar and Tolya exchanged confused glances. “Their person?” Tolya echoed, frowning.
Nikolai nodded, frustration creeping into his tone. “I overheard the three of you talking. They mentioned someone. If something happens, we need to know who to contact.”
Tamar's eyes narrowed slightly as she tried to recall. Then, a look of realisation dawned on her face. “Oh, you mean Nikolai.”
Nikolai’s heart skipped a beat, but he kept his face impassive. “What do you know about him?”
“Not much,” Tamar admitted, glancing at Tolya, who nodded in agreement. “Just that his name is Nikolai. They mentioned him once, but not in detail.”
Nikolai’s mind raced, connecting the dots. They didn’t know. They had no idea that the Nikolai you spoke of was him—Sturmhond, the privateer. He felt a strange mix of relief and guilt. Relief that his identity remained safe, but guilty that all of this had been a misunderstanding. “Thank you,” he said finally, his voice softer. “That’s… helpful.”
Tamar frowned, sensing his unease but not pressing further. “They’ll pull through,” she said confidently, more to reassure herself than anyone else. “They’re strong.”
Nikolai nodded absently, his gaze fixed on your pale face. As the night deepened, he slumped into the chair, needing to be near you, so he could apologise.
When you next awoke, the pain was pretty much gone, and you were decidedly not dead. It was a good start.
You were lying in a bed. For a second, the sun filtered through the windows and you thought you were in your bed. All the way back home in Novyi Zem. Your sister would run in in a moment asking for you to make her tea - you did it the best, not too milky and not too sweet. You opened your eyes to the sight of dark wooden panels. You were on the ship. The bed was familiar, though. The last time you were in it, a warm heavy arm had been resting across your chest. Your heart ached at the thought.
You looked over to the sight. The Captain was curled up in an armchair next to the bed, head cupped in his palm, his hair, loose and unkempt, clearly having had a hand run through it over and over. He must have nodded off at some point during the night. You were happy to see him sleep - he looked so calm and peaceful, unlike the past few weeks.
His eyes fluttered awake, almost as if he felt your gaze over him. His flickered to your covered waist before meeting your eyes. His gruff expression melted into one more sympathetic, and he reached out to squeeze your hand.
"You're still here?" You croaked.
"I promised you I'd still be here in the afternoon."

seeing him again

nikolai lantsov x reader
Tw: bad, unedited writing
enjoy <3
Disguising yourself as a servant to escape the palace with Alina probably wasn't the best idea you'd ever had. Now, her and Mal were leading you onto a random ship after escaping near death.
Two members of the crew lead you below deck and into a small room. "Captain. We have some stowaways for you," the woman said before letting you walk into the room properly.
But then the only thing keeping you moving was Mal's hand on your shoulder. You could have laughed. You would've laughed if there wasn't a possibility that the scary woman would behead you.
There he was sat. The captain. Prince Nikolai. He'd grown, no longer the boy you remembered. Not that you were complaining, he was still ridiculously attractive. You realised that he was talking, but you didn't care because he wasn't talking to you.Seeing him made your girlish ways spring back up the the box that you'd buried them in. You stared at him for too long, and fidgeted with your dress. He caught your eye, staring at you with a confused expression. You willed him to recognise you, even through your mask of different coloured hair and different face.
"Tolya, Tamar, show the sunsummoner to her hammock. And her little partner. Leave the other girl, I want to talk to her."
The other girl? You weren't sure if you'd ever been as offended in your life. Alina sent you a questioning look, silently asking if you needed help, to which you answered with a shrug.
You watched the four of them leave the room, which suddenly felt much too small for you and the Prince. But at the same time there was entirely too much space in between you.
"Would you like to know what those two members of my crew are?"
This wasn't at all how you'd imagined reuniting with Nikolai. For example: you weren't disguised, he knew who you were and he wouldn't be talking about anyone else.
"Well, you can tell me if you'd like."
He smirked, standing up and walking around his desk. "They're heartrenders. And they told me that your lying. However, you haven't said a word since you entered this room, so I wonder what it is exactly that you are lying about. I won't snitch, promise."
"I know you won't. You wouldn't dare." You weren't entirely sure how you could stand to keep talking like this, but you did.
"Do you want to bet?"
You nodded and stepped closer. You brushed his hair away from his eyes at the same time as you let your features merge back to normal. There were no words for the moments after that. All you felt was an overwhelming sense of relief. You weren't sure what he felt, but you loved how he was looking at you. Eyes wide and mouth agape, he stood still, as if the slightest movement would scare you away.
Then he dropped onto his knees.
"Niko," You said in surprise, then, "Do they know who you are?"
He just nodded mindlessly from where he was on the ground, staring up at you. "I tried. I promise, I tried."
You crouched down so you could be eyelevel. "Niko what?"
"To get back to you. I tried. We kept getting lost or sent away or into battles but I tried and I'm sorry but I promise-"
You cut him off by putting a hand over his mouth. "Are you okay?"
He nodded, confused.
"Then it doesn't matter."
Then you kiss him and you could tell he didn't expect it. To be fair you weren't expecting it either, but once the idea came into your mind you just had to kiss him. You placed your hands around the back of his neck and he placed one on your cheek, the other on your waist. You leant away from the kiss, much to his dismay, and pulled him up to standing
."Do you think I should tell Alina and Mal who I am?"
"I think that you should just stay in this room with me for the rest of your days."You rolled your eyes at him, kissing his nose.
"No because really, I don't remember how to get back to how I looked."
Nikolai wrinkled his nose at you. "Stay like this. I like you like this."
"Do you think I'll get hit?"
"What?""Alina seems to be a very violent person even though she's tiny. And she doesn't like people lying to her."
"I'll make sure you don't get hit."

Slap or Kiss
Summary - Sometimes you aren't sure if you should slap or kiss Nikolai. This is one of those times. 1.1k words
✨⚓️
“My mother was an oyster,” Nikolai says with a grin before winking at you. “And I’m the pearl.”
“Oh Saints, that was horrible Nikolai Lantsov,” you say with a laugh. This was one of those moments where you really weren’t sure if you should slap him or kiss him. This was always how it went, every evening. You and Nikolai finding yourselves tangled up in the sheets of his bed together, wrapped in each other’s embrace, away from the world and reality.
“I thought you enjoyed my good looks and my wit,” Nikolai responds with a chuckle before pushing himself up on one of his elbows to look at you, lips curving upwards into a grin. It was the kind of grin where you weren’t sure if you should slap him or kiss him.
“No. Quite the opposite,” you tease in response. You prop yourself up on your own elbow.
“The wit or the looks,” the King of Ravka inquires his grin widening. A few golden curls fall into his eyes.
You brush his hair away before responding with a grin of your own. “Both.”
Nikolai’s heart skips a beat at your touch. His free hand brushes over your hip, tracing small circles with his thumb, his gaze never leaving your face. “Now that’s just cruel. I’ve always believed that I’m––”
You cut him off immediately. “Don’t you dare call yourself boyishly handsome again,” you warn.
He looks almost offended. “Why not? What’s wrong with boyishly handsome?”
“You said it, that’s what’s wrong with it,” you respond, trying to suppress a smile still deciding if you should slap him or kiss him.
“Am I meant to believe that you don’t find me terribly handsome,” Nikolai challenges playfully, eyebrows raising slightly as you drop your head back onto the pillow.
You laugh in response, cheeks going slightly rosy. “On the contrary, I find you as beautiful as an unmoving rock with no shine or shimmer.”
He repeats his mock offended look before wrapping his arms around your waist, and half pressing himself on top of you. His chest against yours. “I’m a rock? I suppose that is the reason you cannot seem to get me off of you.”
You half-heartedly try to push him off of you but in truth you want to stay like that forever. Your legs remain tangled with his. “Whatever would Vasily think if he found us here,” you ask with a smile.
“I’m wounded. You lay here with me, yet all you can think about is my brother,” Nikolai asks before dramatically placing his hand over his heart, falling to the side of you.
You rolled your eyes in response before shaking your head. Yes, you certainly could get used to this. After a few moments of silence Nikolai pulls you back into his arms. Your forehead rests against his shoulder as he ghosts his fingers up and down your bare spine. You stay like for a while, a long while. At random times he presses kisses across your face––he middle of your forehead, your temple, cheeks, lips, chin, forehead again. “I meant to talk to you about something earlier today when we passed in the corridor.”
“About what,” you ask him, the Ravkan King’s fingers still gently running up and down your spine.
“Us,” he mutters.
“Mm?” You ask him before he gently presses his lips to yours.
One of his hands travels to your cheek, thumb gently brushing over it, back and forth methodically. The hand on your back pauses just below your shoulder blade. “I have a question. What if I asked you to marry me?”
“What?” You ask, sounding shocked. You did not expect that. You and Nikolai had been seeing each other secretly for almost a year. You preferred it that way. For one, you weren’t be closely inspected and watched by everyone in the court, and for two you were convinced the court and perhaps the people of Ravka would never except you as Nikolai’s choice. You certainly didn’t come from royalty. You were not a Grisha with fancy powers. You were someone who he met by chance. Nikolai’s words pulled you from your own head.
“Will you marry me?” He whispers.
“You and I both know that wouldn’t be wise right now.” You give him a sympathetic look.
This time Nikolai looks actually shocked. Shocked because when would he choose what’s supposedly wise to Ravka’s court when’s he and the Ravkan people are too damn in love with you. “Who cares about what’s wise? I love you and as much as you might not believe it, the people love you too. From what they’ve seen of your work. All I know is that I love you and you are what would be good for the people. Forget about the damn court. I love you and I want you as my spouse. To hell with the fallout. So for Saints’ sake––for my sake, marry me,” he says. He’s clearly determined. His gaze is fixed on you. He doesn’t care about logic, or the flaws in the plan he just wants to be your husband, your lover and best friend from now through eternity.
“So the King of Ravka plans to keep his marriage secret, is that your plan? How would you manage that,” you ask him, skeptical of the entire situation.
Nikolai pulls you even closer to him if that is even possible. “What do you mean ‘secret’? I want everyone to know who and what you are to me. My best friend, my partner, my soulmate, my Queen. To hell with everyone who can’t accept us, but there will be no secrecy on my part. I will stand by the person I love, regardless of what the rest of the world thinks.”
“You and your damn mouth,” you say with a breathy laugh. “I will marry you one condition. We slowly wade in. We don’t tell anyone we are engaged, we get people used to the idea of us then we announce our engagement, and then we get married.”
“As long as I’m with you. Secretly together, engaged, married, whatever.” There is a momentary pause before Nikolai grins again, that same stupid one that makes you unsure if you should slap him or kiss. “I never heard a definitive yes from you, Darling. Will you marry me?”
You let out another breathy laugh before deciding that kissing him was the better option at the moment. Nikolai’s arms tighten around your middle, facing coming closer to you. Then his lips are on yours and you think Yes. The kiss was definitely the right choice.

Kisses
Nikolai crosses his legs on the bed and you crawl into his lap.
With your arms around each other, you press kiss after kiss to the underside of his jaw; tracing a line to his neck.
Nikolai loves when you're affectionate like this. They were moments of quiet, content vulnerability.
He giggles and squirms away when you reach that spot but settles back quick enough.
You keep pressing kisses onto his skin

Confessions and Confidences // Nikolai Lantsov
Request: what about a nikolai fic with the "there was only one bed" trope? IM A SUCKER FOR THAT TROPE PLEASE- something like nik and the reader went somewhere like ravka ovest (during siege and storm/ruin and rising) to promote his return and they end up staying for the night in a hotel somewhere but it wasnt the one they made a reservation in so there's only one room. - @the-massive-simp
A/N: Thank you so much for your request! I am so sorry it has taken me so long to write it, but I have to tell you - I loved writing this so much. I hope you like it, and I hope I have done it justice.
Warnings: female reader, pining, mutual pining, lots of feelings, friends to lovers, one bed trope, fluff, cute.
Word count: 2k+
“Tell me how I did… honestly,” Nikolai requests, loosening his tie and rolling his shoulders to relieve the tension that had built there over the last three hours.
The carriage jostles you from side to side, leaving you faintly nauseous as you meet the eyes of the Ravkan prince. A fond smile creeps over your face. “You had them eating out the palm of your hand.”
Nikolai pauses; his fingers a freezing on the tight Windsor knot of his tie. He meets your gaze only fleetingly, but long enough for you to see the insecurity hidden in those crystalline blue eyes. Nikolai returns to his ministrations, fiddling with the navy blue tie as he asks you. “Do you think so?”
He huffs before giving up with the tie. You roll your eyes, scooting forward on the carriage bench, reaching for the wrinkled material. “I don’t think,” You murmur, working on the tightened knot. “I know so. I was in the crowd, Nikolai. I hear every gasp of awe and every hum of agreement.”
Nikolai’s gaze fixes on your face, searching for what he does not know, but his eyes do not leave your face as you battle with his godforsaken tie.
Silence falls in the carriage as you work with his tie, feeling it begin to loosen. A shout of victory rings true when the navy material gives way and Nikolai feels the tie relent. Satisfied, you sit back, crossing your arms over your chest. “I know,” You laugh, “I’m amazing.”
Nikolai snorts, tipping his head in recognition of your talent. “Of course,” He drawls, “I would never have done it without you… or the valet riding in the carriage behind us.”
Pouting childishly, you kick his shin. “Hush,” You say, “You know you would never survive without me.”
“Naturally,” He answers with a coy grin.
You smile at each other; unabashed, joyful smiles that leave your cheeks hurting in a matter of moments. You meet each other’s gaze; a silent battle breaking out over who will break and look away first as the tension begins to build. A tension that had become more and more noticeable over the last few months; feelings that you thought you had long since buried making their way to the surfaced with every touch, every laugh and every glance sent your way by the blue eye prince sat across from you.
You break first, turning your face to stare out of the window. “So,” You state, clearing your throat. “Are we heading back to Ravka tonight?”
Nikolai shakes his head. “It’s far too late and I think we all deserve a rest. I had someone ride ahead to find a hotel for the night.”
“Lovely,” You sigh, already dreaming of the bubble bath that awaited you.
Nikolai laughs, settling further into his seat as he lets any anxieties over tonight leave him in a rush. Instead, he thinks of the warm, comfortable bed waiting for him in his hotel room.
—————————————————————————
The scout Nikolai had sent out earlier meets the royal party close to their hopeful destination. Nikolai thanks the scout, promising him extra money in his wage packet and a day off for himself and his horse to recover.
Shocked by the prince’s generosity, the scout leads the party to the hotel in silence, thinking of what he would do with his newly awarded day off.
As the carriage stops outside the hotel, it becomes clear that it isn’t grand but rather a family run establishment that looks well loved. Nikolai exits the carriage and falls for its charms. He greets the owner with a warm handshake.
“We are honoured for your business,” The owner states, bowing at the waist.
“We are honoured to be your guests,” Nikolai replies, gesturing to you and the rest of the party.
The owner smiles. “I have provided my best rooms, but I’m afraid you may have to share if that is no trouble.”
“No trouble at all,” You smile, seeing the stress leave the owner’s face. “If you would give us the room keys, we can allocate ourselves.”
“Of course,” The owner allows, returning to his desk to find the keys he had put aside earlier.
You turn to Nikolai in the meantime. “How do you want to do this?”
Nikolai shrugs; he goes to speak but is interrupted by his valet, Roberts. “Sir,” Roberts begins, “With all due respect, we have already sorted ourselves out.”
“Oh?”
Roberts nods. “We often have to share on the road so we tend to stay with the same partners. It would seem that yourself and Miss (Y/N) may have to share this time too.”
You pause for thought, glancing at Nikolai. “Thank you, Roberts,” You dismiss with a friendly smile. You watch Nikolai watching the hotel owner hand everyone their room keys before he stops in front of you both.
“Your room key, your highness.”
Nikolai takes the key with a simple nod of gratitude. The owner smiles before departing. The rest of the party have disappeared, noting the time and the early start in the morning.
“Come on,” You murmur, nudging Nikolai to get a move on. “There’s a bath with my name on it and you’re holding the key.”
Nikolai breaks out of his trance, smiling in a way that could disarm entire armies. “Well, we wouldn’t want that. Would we?” He offers you his arm. “Are you sure you don’t mind sharing with me?”
“No,” You answer, fixing him with an unimpressed look. “I don’t mind so long as I have dibs on the bed closest to the window.”
The blue eyed prince laughs. “Deal.”
It’s a short walk to your shared room. Up a flight of stairs and along the corridor to the fourth door on the right. You quash yawn after yawn on the walk to the room, feeling your bones grow heavier as the tiredness begins to settle in. Finally, one yawn escapes you just as Nikolai slides the key into the lock.
“Will I have to fish you out of the bath when you inevitably fall asleep in there?”
You scoff. “Of course not. I’m wide awake.”
“Sure you are.”
“Stop arguing with me and open the door, Lantsov,” You command in time to his laughter.
“As you wish.”
The door clicks open to reveal a small and modest room. The late summer sun bathes the room in a warm light showcasing the bathroom to the left of the entrance, a single cream armchair and a bed.
A lone bed. One bed. Big enough for two, but not what was expected.
You pause at the sight of it. Numerous pillows and a duvet that all but screams comfort and coziness – they taunt you as you know this could be a problem.
“I’ll take the chair,” You announce, hauling your things to the corner of the room, ready to make camp for the night.
“Absolutely not. I’ll take the chair. You have the bed.”
“You’re royalty. Your title deems you to have the bed.”
“I’m also a privateer and have slept on much worse than an arm chair.”
You glare at the stubborn blonde. “It seems we’re at an impasse.”
“I agree. What shall we do?”
You sigh, “Look, I’m exhausted and you’re practically dead on your feet. I’m fine with sharing the bed if you are.”
Nikolai hesitates for a single moment before agreeing. You smile, happy that things are settled. “I’m still sleeping by the window, and I have first dibs on the bathroom.”
“I would expect nothing less,” Nikolai laughs, perching on the end of the bed to toe off his long worn in leather boots.
His laughter follows you to the bathroom where you immediately set the bath running and shut the door. You sit on the edge of the bath, testing the water temperature now and then as you try to calm your pounding heart. It was one thing to share a room with Nikolai, but it was another thing entirely to share a bed with the man who was the main character in your dizziest of daydreams.
Adding plenty of bubbles, you begin to talk yourself through the night. You let it become your mantra as the bath finishes and you undress. You repeat your actions of the evening to yourself as you slip underwater, wondering if it was all going to go to hell in a hand-basket.
Meanwhile, Nikolai undresses before rummaging through his overnight bag to find a pair of night trousers to sleep in. He remains shirtless, knowing he would get too warm in the night. Ready for bed, he closes the curtains and settles under the covers. He fluffs the pillows once… twice… before huffing and getting back out of bed. He paces the floor, back and forth as he feels panic mounting in his chest, rooting there and cutting off his breath. It was one thing to share a room with you. It was another thing completely to share a bed with you. Not when he found himself reaching for you in the middle of the night; not when he wants to be the first and last person you speak to everyday; not when he yearns for you with every fibre of his being.
The bathroom door opens, steam pouring out and Nikolai freezes. You look deliciously rumpled; soft and warm with your skin still flushed from the heat of your bath. Nikolai clenches his hands into fists; resisting the growing urge to pull you into his arms, confess everything and kiss you senseless.
“Aren’t you in bed yet?” You ask, hanging your towel to dry.
Nikolai shakes his head, doing his best to rid himself of the quickening of his heart. “Too much on my mind for me to settle.”
You come over; any of your own anxieties fade as you press a hand to his cheek, seeing the slight panic reflected in his blue, blue eyes. “You were great tonight, Nikolai. A true Ravkan prince. You should be proud of yourself.”
“Thank you,” He whispers, leaning into your touch.
“Let’s go to bed,” You say, a tired smile on your face as you pull away from the blonde, leaving him cold from the lack of your touch.
Doing your best to quash any butterflies, you slide into your promised side, letting out a moan of comfort. “This has to be heaven,” You announce sleepily; the words drowned out by a yawn.
Nikolai chuckles, sliding into bed next to you, finding it much easier to settle with you beside him. He fluffs the pillows, plumping them so they sit better under his head, and waits for sleep to come.
He waits and waits. He feels tired; he feels the weariness sitting upon his shoulders and his eyes want to close but they remain open, staring at the ceiling. “Are you awake?” He asks the darkened room.
Your sigh breaks through the room. “Yeah,” You answer, a slight tone of frustration to your words. “It’s as if I am so tired that my body won’t settle, and my mind won’t shut off.”
“I understand that all too well,” Nikolai sympathises, turning on his side to face you.
“Something you experience often?”
Nikolai nods, humming in agreement. “More now than before,” He explains softly. “It used to happen when I was away; my mind would be too loud, but I would go out on deck and stare up at the sky and watch the stars as they blazed their path across the sky. Instead of focusing on whatever what bothering me, I would think of the stars and what their paths would hold. They were directing us somewhere, but to where?”
“And what about now?”
He sighs. “And now I feel pulled in a thousand different directions. The role I play within my family and the role of Sturmhond…”
“You are beloved either way, Nikolai.”
“I don’t want to let anyone down.”
“You couldn’t. I was in the crowd tonight, Nikolai. I heard the whispers between couples and families; they were all in support of you. They agreed with your motivations, they loved your presence. If they could have you for themselves, I’m certain they would. I know there were a few ladies in the crowd willing to try.”
“You always know what to say…” He croons.
“I know you, Nikolai.”
He smiles; bright and true. It lights up his face, only enhancing his handsomeness. It makes your heart skip a beat. “Now, tell me about the ladies wanting me to themselves.” He chuckles, enjoying the slight boost to his confidence.
You huff, crossing your arms across your chest. “I shan’t. I’ve done enough for your ego for one night, I think.”
Nikolai splutters, incredulous at your refusal. “But… But…”
“Nope.” You refuse, shaking your head.
A smirk grows on his face; he leans closer to you before stating, “I understand now… You’re jealous.”
“Jealous?!” You cry, annoyed at how quick he hit the nail on the head. “I am not jealous.”
“Yes, you are. You’re jealous.”
You huff, casting your gaze to your lap, overcome with your feelings. It was all becoming too much; loving him from afar. Hearing the young women tonight, listening to how attractive they found Nikolai and how they believed they would make the right match for him. It hurt; it hurt hearing it and knowing that deep down it was true. Nikolai would find someone and love someone and marry someone who wasn’t you, and acknowledging that hurt more than anything.
“Hey,” Nikolai prompts gently, “I’m joking. I don’t expect you to be jealous. I’m sorry if I’ve gone too far.”
“But what if I am? What if I am jealous?” You breathe, your heart beginning to pound at your candor. Throwing caution to the wind, you meet his stare, seeing the understanding land there in the slight raise of his brows and turn of his lips.
“Well…” Nikolai begins, tucking a strand of your hair behind your ear. “I would have to tell you not to give it a second thought. There’s nothing and no-one to be jealous of.”
“Oh?” You whisper, feeling hope begin to bloom in your chest.
His thumb brushes your cheekbone as he hums in response. “You have nothing to be jealous of. I’ve been yours for a while now.
“Mine?”
Nikolai nods; his blue eyes no longer clouded with panic, but clear with intent and starting to brim with hope. He presses a kiss to your cheek; quick and fleeting. “Yours. I think I always have been.”
“I think I have always been yours too.”
“Thank the Saints,” Nikolai breathes, relief written clearly on his face. “It would have been awkward if this was one sided, love.”
“Oh Hush!” You laugh, nudging him slightly.
Nikolai grabs your arms, pulling you into an embrace that feels like the beginning of everything. You settle into him; your face pressed against his bare shoulder, inhaling the all too familiar scent of his cologne - oud with notes of vanilla.
A kiss is pressed to the top of your head. “We’ll talk more in the morning, but I want you to know that I’m eternally grateful for one bed.” Nikolai murmurs, promises ready to be made on the tip of his tongue.
You kiss the junction between his neck and shoulder, humming your agreement before sleep finally claims you both, deep and dreamless and in anticipation for what the morning holds.

~
“Captain?” you knocked at the door to his quarters, “Is everything alright?” you called through the door as you tested the handle. Finding it unlocked, you slowly opened it and peeked inside, “Tamar wanted me to check on you.”
“Everything’s alright, love,” Nikolai quickly put himself together as you entered his room. He felt his brow dampen as it lined with sweat, and he adjusted his pants uncharacteristically awkwardly as he laid his eyes on you. He always found you attractive, but suddenly, he couldn’t stop the thoughts that barraged his mind.
“Nikolai,” you breathed his true name as you closed the door behind you, “I can feel your heart… It’s…” pounding erratically, beating faster than you had ever felt before, about to explode, “What happened?” you asked as you rushed over to him and looked him over. He was bright red and you saw the way beads of sweat dripped down his face. He looked like he had lost his composure as he covered his mouth, something you had never seen before.
“It’s… nothing…” he breathed heavily as he tried to hide the way his pants tightened between his legs.
Nikolai and the twins had just returned to the ship from an excursion. Everything went fine, until the Captain got separated from the others and didn’t seem himself when he returned. He refused to say anything, but every Corporalki could sense that something was off, including you. It worried you, but Nikolai didn’t want to worry you.
“Forgive me if I don’t believe you,” you said sternly yet softly, “Now please, let me help you,” you reached out to try and touch his forehead to assess what was wrong.
But the moment the tips of your fingers made the briefest contact with his heated skin, Nikolai grabbed your wrist and looked at you with a fire behind his eyes that you had never seen before. He hissed your name as his hands trembled, “Leave,” his voice was strained as he fought against his own mind. If he gave in to whatever he had pulsing through his veins, he wouldn’t be able to stop himself from ravaging you. And Nikolai could never forgive himself if he hurt you at all.
“Nikolai,” you whispered, “I’m not leaving you. Not when you’re like this.”
Nikolai let out a low groan that made your breath hitch in your throat. You felt his agony as his hand clenched tightly around your wrist. But there was something else that weighed heavily in your heart. You hated seeing him like this, helpless to do anything for him. And you would do anything for him. You had been hopefully in love with him from practically your first meeting, but you kept those feelings buried deep down.
“Listen to me,” Nikolai strained as he hovered closer to you, “I don’t have time to explain,” he forced a half a smile, “And I wouldn’t want anything to come between us if I can’t stop myself right now… Especially before I got the chance to wine and dine you first.”
At that moment, you felt your own face heat up, “What?”
He cursed under his breath as his body shook, “I don’t know what happened out there, I can’t remember, but whatever it is, everything in me is screaming to fuck you senseless right now or else I feel like I’ll explode.” His memory was hazy, but in his time apart from the others, something must have attacked him and poisoned him with… something. It wasn’t like any other poison, though, nothing Nikolai knew of had effects like… this.
Your mouth dropped open as you processed the weight of his words and what they meant. You felt your own heart flutter in your chest as Nikolai’s gaze bore into your soul. You felt the fire behind his eyes and it lit your body aflame. You had wanted this… wanted him… for so long. But you never in your wildest dreams could have imagined this.
“Let me help,” your voice was so hushed you barely even heard your words. But, from the way Nikolai’s expression changed, you knew he heard you. Swallowing your nerves, you closed the small gap between your bodies and cupped his face, “You can use me.”
“Darling,” his voice didn’t even sound like him as he immediately grabbed you and yanked you so that your chest was flush with his. Then, Nikolai looked surprised, as if his body moved on his own at your words, “I couldn't…”
You whimpered as you felt his hard cock against your body, “You need to,” your own voice trembled, “I…” you sighed as you rested your forehead against his, “I can’t lose you,” your confession was a soft whisper, but it held all the emotions that you kept hidden from everyone, especially him.
In a flash, Nikolai’s lips were on yours in a heated kiss. He swallowed the moan you let out as his hands roamed over your body, ripping at your clothes with abandon as he did so. You clung to him and you heard his heartbeat through your ears; it sounded like the way your ears rang when you were too close to cannon fire. You heard the blood rushing through his veins at incredible speed… or was it your own pulse in your ears?
The room spun in a tizzy as you suddenly found yourself naked on Nikolai’s desk, your legs spread open on their own, as if you felt the effects of whatever infected him as well. But, it didn’t matter. All you could think about was the way he bared his own body before you. Quickly, Nikolai stripped himself of his own clothes, and cock springing free as if it guided his body towards yours the moment it was exposed.
You bit your lip and whimpered as he cupped you between your legs.
“Darling,” Nikolai’s voice was low as he fought to hold himself back momentarily, “Do not let me hurt you.”
Seeing the conviction in his eyes made your heart skip a beat and your inner muscles clenched around nothing, “I trust you,” was your reply. It wasn’t a lie, and you wouldn’t have offered yourself to him if you didn’t.
He groaned as he pumped his cock a few times and lined himself up with your entrance. Pausing only for a fraction of a moment, Nikolai met your eyes before he thrust himself into you.
You threw your head back and screamed as his cock stretched you out. Without any preparation, you felt the sting at first, but it quickly turned to pleasure as he rocked himself in and out of you at a fast and harsh pace. You moaned as you clung to him, and Nikolai wrapped his arms around you in response.
The moment he entered you, Nikolai felt an instant relief, but he knew it would take more than that to fully rid himself of whatever plagued him. He never wanted it to be like this with you. He wanted you, of course, he had since you first joined his crew. But Nikolai wanted to court you properly, to earn your love, your trust, your body. He wasn’t even sure you felt the same way about him that he had about you. But, from the moment he got hit with whatever it was, you were the only person on his mind.
“Saints,” Nikolai murmured as he bit your shoulder to stifle his own moans, “You feel better than I ever imagined.”
You gasped as he hit that sweet spot inside you at the same time his words left his mouth. Tears filled your eyes and emotions took over. All you could do was cling to him as he pounded into you. Moans filled the room as you felt your climax quickly approach.
“Nikolai… I’m…”
He just groaned as he picked up his pace until you came hard. Nikolai wanted to pull back and watch you cum, but at the same time he couldn’t break away from you even by an inch. Instead, he held you tightly as you gushed between your bodies and trembled in his arms.
“Darling…” he growled as he felt his own climax follow yours. And with just a few more pumps of his cock, he came deep inside you as he groaned your name and clutched you tightly.
Relief washed over him like a cool rain on a hot summer day. Nikolai still felt the aftershocks of his orgasm, and his cock still remained hard inside you, but the urgency was gone. But, just as he was about to pull out of you, you wrapped your legs around his waist.
“You can keep going,” you whispered, feeling his hardness as well, “I’m ok.”
“But…”
“I trust you,” your voice was more firm as you pulled back enough to look in his eyes, “Do you trust me?”
“I do,” his reply came without hesitation.
The way you looked at him so sincerely made Nikolai’s cock twitch inside you, and before he knew it, he was thrusting in and out of you again. Your mouth dropped open in a loud moan, but he reeled forward and captured your lips with his one in another deep, heated kiss. As he locked lips with you, Nikolai felt his second climax quickly approach, and without pulling away once more, he came inside you.
You whimpered into his mouth as you felt Nikolai fill you up to the point where his cum dripped down your bodies, but you didn’t care. All you cared about was him.
Breaking away for air with a gasp, Nikolai finally got to look in your eyes as you were lost in pleasure. Lost in pleasure on his cock. Saints, you were beautiful like this. Once more, the need overtook him, and Nikolai pounded into you again until he came for the third time. But this time, he watched your every expression as you moaned and cried out his name.
Your eyes stayed shut as he continued to thrust into you, hitting your sweet spot over and over and over again until you couldn’t take it anymore. And just as Nikolai came for the third time, you did as well, crying out his name and clenching around his cock. This time was different though, for both of you. It felt less urgent, yet just as needy.
“Beautiful,” Nikolai murmured as he watched you fall apart in his arms.
With a gasp, your eyes shot open and your heart skipped a beat as you saw the expression of pure adoration on his face, “Nikolai,” you breathed as you cupped his face.
He gave you a weak smile as he mirrored your action, “I think I’m alright now,” he said softly as he slowly pulled out of you, “Thank you,” he hovered his lips over your, but stopped.
You had whined when he pulled out of you, but the disappointment quickly vanished when you felt his breath on your lips. Blinking your eyes open, you studied his face close up, closer than you ever had before. “Don’t tell me you’re shy now, Nikolai,” you quipped in a hushed, exhausted voice.
“I just…” he sighed, “I owe you.”
You smiled, “What about the wining and dining me then?” you asked with an amused huff.
That made Nikolai’s face light up, “I love it when you quote me,” his tone dropped as he finally kissed you, “And yes,” he murmured with a smirk.

Not like them : Nikolai Lantsov x reader
idea/requests by @sublimepenguinpeach-blog : Reader is friends with Alina, met with Nikolai, who is smitten with her, but she reject al his advances since he remind her too much of the men who sexually harassed her in the past. But when reader starts flirting with Tolya, the price just could not hold it anymore.
I changed some things so they would fit the story better, but hope you'll like it :)
***
„You know he’s harmless, right? Just a bit too cocky and self-confident, but apart from that….” Alina started, taking a seat next to her friend on Volkvolny
“I know.” Y/N cut her off before the sun summoner could even finish the sentence “but those are men like him who …..” her voice broke a little.
“I’m sorry.” Alina looked down. “I never meant to remind you of the past.”
“Not your fault.” The other girl sighed deeply and looked at the ocean.
Back in the days, before she met Alina, she had her fair share of traumatic events. As if it wasn’t hard enough to be born into an esteemed Grisha family and yet, also being the only one who held no powers. Zero. Zip. Nada. Unless you count her social awkwardness and a bit of quirkiness.
And that…. well, it led to some complications, to say the least. Although no one ever said that straight to her face, she was a black sheep of the family and it was showing in every gesture, every word and every action taken towards her. She was treated condescendingly, humiliatingly and blamed for so many things that were simply beyond her control ….
One day she just couldn’t take it anymore and snapped. Made a mess. Screamed at the top of her lungs. The quiet girl who was taking all the tease became a snarky, snappy, sarcastic and quick to respond woman.
Oh, if that girl ever held any power she would be an Inferni, no doubt about it. She just seemed to have an answer for everything, was not afraid and that blunt, big mouth caused her some trouble. Let’s just say that her father did not like the attitude. Despite her being ordinary, from that day she was practically forced to participate in a straight-regime training wish Grisha just to punish and humiliate her. And her inadequacy was quickly noticed by some of the guys there.
And used.
One night after particularly extreme practice, when she was walking home alone, tired, exhausted and barely moving her legs three of them laid out for her, grabbed her from behind and dragged her into the nearest empty house on the roadside.
“Get the fuck off me!!” she screamed at the top of her lungs, squirming against the tight grip, but she was too small and too weak to fight against her oppressors. “I will not…..”
“Will you just shut up?” one of the boys said, tightening the grip on her. “You were asking for it from the moment you showed up amongst us. You don’t belong here. You’re not a Grisha.”
“Well you don’t deserve that position either!” she spat and that got her a slap on the face. Oh, that boy was surely not holding back his strength. “Fuck you!” she screamed
“I think opposite.” He smirked taking a step forward “wonder if you’ll act the same when we are done with you. What do you think, gentlemen? Shall we draw lots who would be the first to play with her?”
Shit. She had to do something. Anything. But how could she possibly fight against three grown-up men? She was turning her head around frantically, using the fact that at this point her capturers started quarreling about the order of ……
And their absent-mindedness gave her a bit of leverage when she quickly wriggled herself free and started running as fast as she could. She might have been smaller but it also made her faster and due to some miracle she managed to escape. That was a relief, but her frantically beating heart, disheveled hair, torn coat and dirt on her knees was not something her parents accepted. They were disgusted by her outlook. And of course, she could never tell them what really (almost) happened. They would never believe her. Instead, she took her punishment, throwing some sarcastic comments, clenched her jaw and tried to move forward.
But the trauma stayed.
And those men got away with everything, and even worse – from that fateful evening started to harass her even more. Verbally. Throwing dirty jokes about her body, grabbing her while passing and making efforts to get her alone again, claiming that this was what she wanted.
And she snapped again. Causing a scandal, since after all she was a “no one” who dared to attack Grisha.
Since there was no one who could help her, she just escaped her hometown and were on the run since then.
And that was how she met Alina and Mal, who were probably the first people to accept her fully, never judge her and become her friends for good and for bad. They knew each other for a couple years now and there was nothing that these three wouldn’t do for each other.
Hunting for the seawhip amplifier included. And dealing with one, stupidly annoying price Nikolai Lanstov.
Y/N did not like him from the very beginning. Of course, he was annoyingly handsome with that infuriating smile and contagious laugh, with those shiny eyes that seemed to sparkle even more when he was at sea and his unruly, thick, curly hair.
But his attitude?
Just like Alina said. Cocky. Arrogant. Conceited. Sarcastic and so full of himself. This reminded her of those men from her past. And it was not a good memory. Therefore for the last weeks she has been avoiding him like a plague, trying to shield herself from the trip down memory lane. And both Mal and Alina supported her in this, while knowing where it came from. And they were never going to tell her secret.
The rest of the crew however, did not understand a thing. Especially Tamar and Tolya. They were a bit surprised that someone could have so much irony and power to make their friend Nikolai speechless. She was probably the only girl who could begin to compare with Nikolai in the field of hiding true feelings and using irony as a defense, a shield. And that boy just loved to spite her.
And speaking of the devil…..
“Are you ladies enjoying the view?” upon hearing Sturmhond voice Y/N just rolled her eyes.
“Be nice.” Alina hissed turning around towards the prince.
“nice. sure. It’s not like you were the one to punch him the second we found out his true identity.” Y/N spat back
“That was only because you are slower than me…”
“It’s not like we are on vacation.” Y/N spit before Alina managed to stop her “In case you forgot, tsarevich.”
“Not with you to remind me. You should relax a bit, sunshine.” Nikolai smirked with that characteristic face expression that made Y/N clench her fists. He was just so freaking annoying. “And since you two are clearly gossiping here, may I ask who is the subject of those gossips?”
“What makes you think it was a person?” Y/N crossed arms over her chest, eying Nikolai with the most stern expression she could produce.
“Call it instincts. So?”
“No one you would know.”
“Really? Wanna bet I can find out who’s the lucky guy? I got resources to do that.”
“Saints! Only you can start bragging out of nowhere.” The hell Y/N was going to listen to Alina’s advice to be nice.
“That’s just a casual reminder that nothing can hide from me. And definitely not that blush on you face Y/N.”
“I am not…..”
“Oh, you are. Is it because of me Y/N?”
“Pffff.” She scoffed and blew a raspberry. The fact was she was blushing, but the person who caused it was yet to approach them.
Tolya.
Even since she met him on the deck of Volkvolny he sparked something in her. Despite all her bad experiences and deeply hidden disgust and fright of men.
He was just different.
Y/n never knew a man who would recite poetry and be so … openly caring and romantic and courting and protective and ….
To say the least, she was a bit smitten by him.
Or maybe she was just deflecting.
But it was hard to hide that Tolya’s appearance immediately put a smile on her face.
“Are you ladies enjoying the trip?” he absentmindedly asked the exact same question as Nikolai
“I always enjoyed being in the open.” Y/N looked at him with glistening, bright eyes. Her answer, so different than before, got Nikolai pop his eyes and open his mouth wide. “Cat got your tongue, Nikolai?” she laughed lightly and it was his turn to blush. Once again, she got him speechless. And he hated that.
“Yes.” Tolya took a deep breath and closed his eyes a bit “That remind me of…..”
“Oh, no, please, do not recite the poetry again” Tamar chimed in, before her brother could say a word
“Just because you, my dear sister, cannot fully appreciate the beauty of the art, doesn’t mean that pretty lady Y/N cannot as well.”
“Pretty?” Y/N smirked. “isn’t that a little condescending?”
“It never meant to be.” The Shu man exhaled and his gaze focused on her “did you take it like that?”
“No. I don’t think I did. But still, I bet you tell that to every girl you meet.” She dared
“I haven’t met much girl lately. At least not since you, Y/N.”
“Oh….”
“is it just me or are those two openly flirting with each other?” Alina whispered to Tamar, who were barely holding back a chuckle
“Looks like it.” Tamar gasped “Wonder who’s gonna make the bigger fool of oneself.”
“Nikolai, I think. Just look at his face. Not so reserved anymore.”
“Wait. You don’t seriously think that he might…..”
“I know him longer than you, Alina. I think he does. Just wait and see….”
“I did however, have many adventures and many stories I can entertain you with, Y/N. If you’d like to listen, of course.”
“Of course!” she practically exclaimed “It would be such a relief to listen to someone who can talk about interesting things.”
“Y/N, you mind if I have a quick word with you beforehand?” Nikolai tried his best to act casual, but it was no use.
“Told ya.” Tamar raised an eyebrow at Alina
“Um, yes, I actually do mind” Y/N tilted her head. She just loved to dare Nikolai and push him past his boundaries.
“Too bad. “ he shrugged “I am the captain. You’re on my ship. So you will listen.”
“I am not…..”
“Now.” Nikolai commanded and that harsh attitude took everyone, Y/N included, by surprise. Sturmhond was not exactly known to lose his cool and temper.
***
“What?” Y/N spat the second he closed the door to the cabin. She was not even going to hide how furious she was at him “what on saints was so important that you just couldn’t wait a while?!”
“You.”
“Me?” she frowned “what …..?”
“I don’t understand you.” he sighed “I just don’t. And believe me, I’m trying. ”
“What the…..?” she tried again, but he didn’t let her finish, taking a step forward, making her retrieve until her back hit his desk. The intense look in his eyes made her panic slightly. Saints. She was trapped. Again. With no way to hide. Suddenly her mind took her back to the past, to that barn, reminding her of her oppressors, of the past, of what happened, of how she was alone and hurting and forced to move past her trauma. “No….” her body trembled and she completely lost contact with reality, too immersed in the past “No…. please…. not again.” tears started falling down her cheeks and she sobbed desperately.
“Y/N?” Nikolai voice became alerted in a second, his gaze softening while looking at her, so broken and vulnerable. He had no idea what he did and why she acted like that. “Y/N, what happened? Hey, please, I …..” he hesitated, not sure whether to hug her or not.
“I hate you!” she cried out
“Why?” he sounded broken
“you are just like them!”
“Like who?” this was all just too confusing for him
“Like those guys who tried to …. to…..hurt me” she shook again, hiding her face in hands and trembling again.
“Oh, love….” Now it became painfully clear and Nik could not hold back his instincts anymore, extending his arms and wrapping them around her, pulling her close, letting her cry into his chest, rubbing soothing circles on her back “I’m so sorry.” He whispered “But it’s ok. You’re safe now. No one will hurt you. Not when I’m around. I promise. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“How….how can you be like that?” she pulled back slightly, her broken gaze landing on him “How can you be so much like them with your attitude and confidence and smugness and yet, so different? I … I don’t understand it….. I ……”
“Y/N.” he smiled at her, cupping her cheek and rubbing her tears away “Look me in the eyes. Please.” she unwillingly raised her gaze and their orbs met “is that why you have been avoiding me and acting so rough and cruel? Tell me.” Nikolai said softly, not to startle her
“Yes.” She admitted, her voice shaking “that and …..”
“And what?”
“I can’t say it…..”
“Then let me.” he smiled “I fell for you. the second I saw you with your fiery eyes and sparkling eyes. The moment you slapped me down with that bad girl attitude of yours. Saints, Y/N, if I knew about…..”
“You cannot tell anyone about it!” she panicked again, struggling against his hold, but he only held her closer.
“Saints, girl! I’m telling you I love you and you keep projecting. Listen to me. Just listen.” Once again, he cupped her cheek and forced her distracted eyesight on him, the other hand resting on the small of her back. “I love you.” he simply said and somehow she knew he was telling the truth.
“You are not supposed to…..” she tried to object.
“Oh, saints!” Nikolai hissed, now completely drained of patience. He was done talking. Instead he just leaned forward and captured her lips in his. Oh, he wanted to satiate his hunger of having her, but at the same time, founding about her past made him slow down a bit. So instead of devouring her fully, he settled on moving his mouth on her slowly, softly, pouring all his feelings for her into that kiss. Trying to tell her, without using words, that whatever she may have thought about him, he cared. That he wasn’t like them. That he would never hurt her. He would protect her. He wanted her all to himself. And the sight of her flirting with Tolya turned him jealous and possessive. Hoping she would feel all that, conveyed by a kiss.
And the second he touched her, he was gone. The feel of her pressed against him, the fact that he finally, finally cold have her so close, not fighting against him, not spiting and biting and bittering was just too much for the poor boy. Prince, yes, but still, a boy in love, afraid of having his heart broken and scared of rejection, no matter how indifferent he may act.
But the way her hands immediately found a way up his arms and locked on his neck, how she moved slightly towards him, hugging and kissing him back with the same fire as he did, told him that maybe, maybe¸ those feelings were not one-sided. Saints, he could not get enough of the feeling of her lips and skin, the softness of her hair tickling his face, wishing he could just hold her like that forever, but eventually they both had to pull back for air. And when they did, he opened eyes, focusing on her beautiful face. She kept her eyes closed, breathing heavily, trying to contain everything she felt at the moment and processing it.
“Y/N….” he whispered, brushing his lips over her forehead, awaiting any words from her with his heart beating rapidly, almost out of his chest.
“I…. I think I love you too.” She gasped, almost inaudibly, but he heard those words. The most beautiful words he could ever imagine.
“Of course you do. How could you not?” he laughed, but it was different than before. Not conceited or sarcastic, much rather laced with love, care and so much relief that she reciprocated.
“Stop ruining the moment!” she hit his arm, but smiled lightly and he couldn’t help but peck her lips again.
“do you think they know?” he asked, obviously referring to the rest of the crew
“Who cares about them?”
“For once, I can agree with you” he pulled her closer again, the second kiss being more heated and passionate and she did not oppose to being showered in his attention and affection, not holding his desire back.

wc: 2.8k
warning(s): nikolai is a lil jealous obviously! small bit of angst, mostly fluff, lil steamy at the end.

Nikolai feels his lip curling, feels his hand tighten on his glass.
This is a party. A ball, more specifically, but a celebration nonetheless. He should be smiling, mingling, talking up some baron or duke in the name of Ravka’s economy. He is a prince, after all—a bastard, second son of a prince that plans to take the throne at that—and he’s just returned from years at sea. It is in his best interest to do what he does best and talk as much as possible. If anything, he should be arm in arm with the Sun Summoner to boost both their positions.
But all he can do is stare at you.
You’re the embodiment of grace. Your practiced smile looks wholly genuine no matter how long you have to keep it up. Your laugh seems to make others smile without even realizing, ringing out clear like church bells. It’s a sound Nikolai knows he would worship to the end of his days, at least.
You stand in the midst of noblemen and Nikolai only recognizes one—Artem Aslanov, a son of nobles that the two of you spent much of your youth with. He wonders if you remember each other as well. He certainly seems to, the way he stands just a bit too close to you, the way he’s absolutely eager for your attention. Nikolai holds back a scoff.
The others are likely from various other Ravkan settlements, though one has to be Kaelish, with his almost offensively ginger hair.
Not that any of it matters, though. Not one of them can tear their eyes away from you as you talk, magnetic with both your words and inherent charm, and they drink up every bit of your presence.
Something stirs inside Nikolai at the sight. Logically, he knows he has little to worry about—he knows this is your duty as much as it is his, and you care little for any man’s affections but his.
But Saints, his heart does not want to listen to silly things such as logic. In this moment, Nikolai is reminded of the truth at its barest—you’re a noblewoman of good breeding, quite extravagant wealth, and considerable beauty. Your years at sea have caused you to develop a quick wit and sharp tongue, and it only serves to make you more appealing.
Your flashy return to Ravka has made you perhaps the most desirable lady at court, and Nikolai is forced to realize he no longer has you all to himself anymore.
Nikolai has planned to come back and take the Lantsov throne for years now, but he can’t help but long for those days again. Teaching you all the ins and outs of the Volkvolny, how to do every sailor’s knot he knows, showing you the misty mountains of the Wandering Isle and the rolling fields of Novyi Zem and the wonderful world outside of Ravka’s courtly constraints.
Taking over the ships of slavers and clashing blades with drüskelle and watching a thousand sunrises and sunsets together, unbound by anything but tangled up in every part of each other.
It was almost laughable. You were worried of Nikolai charming others upon your return, and yet here he was, unable to look away from you for even the slightest second because he was jealous of some noble son.
“Your Highness, are you alright?”
Nikolai turns back to the conversation he is meant to be paying attention to, already offering a smile that he hopes will make up for his utter lack of focus. Of course, he doesn’t really care what this Kerch merchant thinks of him, and Nikolai’s word will probably mean little to his parents at the moment. They’re still quite angry at him for all his Sturmhondish escapades. This man, whose name he has already forgotten, doesn’t seem to know he’s wasting his time.
“Of course I am,” he says, and he pats him on the shoulder. He means to say more, but then he catches a glance of Artem pulling you to the side, his hand lingering on your waist much too close for comfort. He’s surprised he doesn’t break his glass with how his fingers clench around it even tighter.
“Then I would be honored for you to consider my—”
“I apologize, Jansen.” Nikolai ignores the look on his face at both his interruption and being called the wrong name as he drops his hand. “It’s been wonderful chatting with you, but I’m afraid I must take my leave.”
Nikolai departs before he can get another word out. He’s sure he’ll get an earful later for his ‘disrespect’ but again, he really could not care less.
He expects to have to weave his way through the crowd, but a path parts for him wherever he moves. Benefits to being a Lantsov prince rather than another privateer on the sea, he supposes. He feels a number of eyes on him as he walks, but he’s focused on one thing and one thing only.
Artem seems to be as well, seeing as he doesn’t even look up while he continues talking to you. Nikolai doesn’t blame him for being enraptured, but he does wonder what he thinks that boorish smile will do to you.
Nikolai exclaims your name as he comes up next to you, sliding his arm around your waist like he’s done a thousand times before and claiming his place at your side. “I’ve been looking for you, milaya. You’ve been awfully popular tonight.”
Your gleaming gaze turns to him and Nikolai feels like he can melt. It doesn’t matter how many times you look at him—not even Alina can muster up something to rival your brightness.
“Nikolai!”
Again, the way you say his name makes him weak at the knees. The poshness of your Ravkan faded while you were at sea around common sailors and vagrants, and though he can tell you’re trying your best to hide it in the name of courtly etiquette, it still bleeds through. He adores your accent, how it shows the woman you’ve become rather than the girl you ran away from.
“I’ve been looking for you,” you counter as you lean into him. You’ve applied some fanciful perfume, and it’s intoxicating. He has to stop himself from inhaling deeply—he has little shame when it comes to you, but he’s got to have some poise. “You’re the belle of the ball, Mister Prince.”
“And you’re the apple of everyone’s eye, lapushka,” he says. “Especially mine.”
Your heartbeat has been steadily increasing ever since he slotted himself at your side, and he can feel it speed even more with his words. It makes Nikolai smile without even fully realizing it.
He feels Artem’s gaze on him all the while, and Nikolai chooses to ignore it until now. He looks up, making sure his eyes widen cartoonishly and his smile deepens with the same caliber. “Aslanov! I’m so sorry, I didn’t even notice you!”
“Your Highness,” he says, polite but terse as he bows his head. “It’s good to see you—it has truly been too long.”
“Oh, no need for titles,” Nikolai admonishes. “We’re all friends here, are we not?”
He puts particular emphasis on that word, and Artem shifts ever so slightly under Nikolai’s gaze. So he makes him nervous—good.
“We are,” he agrees, and he looks back at you. “We were merely catching up—it has been years since I last had the good fortune to be in your presence.” Artem smiles at you once again, far more genuine than anything he’s given Nikolai. “Of course, I look forward to hearing about everything you learned at university.”
“I’ve certainly learned a lot,” you say. Very tongue-in-cheek—you don’t even try to hide it.
Of course. The cover story for Nikolai’s being away from court was his apprenticeships, culminating in his studies at the University of Ketterdam—it would be a shame of the highest order for your parents to admit you ran away to avoid the marriage they’d planned for you, and even more so to admit it had gotten their daughter kidnapped by slavers, so they simply said you joined him there.
Advancing your studies for a better view, they’d spouted. We want our heir to be well-educated on all matters of the world. Nikolai knows you learned more on the seas by his side than you would have in a classroom staring at endless amounts of books. He only regrets he can’t shout how amazing you’ve been for the past few years from the rooftops.
“Perhaps we could discuss it privately some time.” Nikolai will give it to him; his smile is a bit more charming this time. He still wants to punch it off him. “You know, my family has only refined our winemaking over the years—we’d have a wonderful time with a bottle of our finest red—”
“Unfortunately, it will have to wait,” Nikolai cuts in before you can respond. He can’t help it—he’s raring to have you to himself, and he doesn’t know how much more he can take of Artem’s flirting. “My parents are eager to speak to you, darling. We’ll see you around, Aslanov.”
He pulls you away, once again feeling Artem’s eyes on the two of you. He purposefully pulls you closer against him—your warmth against him does wonders to quell the spike of jealousy in his chest.
“You really are impossible,” you say wryly, but you make no move to part from his side as he leads you through the crowd.
“I’m just making sure he understands the situation,” Nikolai says innocently.
“We were just talking,” you say. “You know, it has been years.”
“You were,” he agrees. “But our friend here was very interested in trying to be more. Couldn’t you tell?”
You laugh and you place your hand on his chest. “Nikolai Lantsov, are you jealous?”
“He was talking about his family’s vineyard.” He smiles back at you in turn. He can’t help the bit of bravado that trickles in. “For me to be jealous, I’d have to think he had a chance.”
“Saints, you are!” you exclaim. You stop, halting him in turn, and you grin at him with a twinkle in your eye. Again, he smiles subconsciously just at the sight of it. “Nikolai, I cannot believe you!”
“How?” he asks, cocking his head boyishly. “Have you caught a glimpse of yourself tonight?”
“I’ve looked at myself in the reflection of every glass,” you say dryly. “After all the time spent in sea-faring clothes, it’s very strange to be back in gowns.”
“Then you should know how absolutely stunning you are,” he says. “Breathtaking, showstopping, the very image of perfection…” Nikolai runs his finger over the embroidery on one of your off-the-shoulder sleeves. The rest of his hand lingers on your bare skin, and he longs to remove the barrier his gloves have created.
“And yet it still doesn’t beat how you look in a privateer’s garb,” Nikolai says.
He places his hand over yours and brings it up from his chest. He entangles your fingers and uses the grasp to pull you even closer to him, your chests nearly touching. The warmth of your body tempts him to go even further, but he holds back.
“Really?” you ask. “This gown cost more vlachkas than anyone deserves, took the labor of a small army to create, and weighs as much as you do, and you like me more in that dingy jacket with pants that smell like gunpowder?”
“Oh, yes,” Nikolai nods. “They don’t just smell like gunpowder—they make your rear look very appealing.”
You laugh louder than you should and it draws eyes in your direction. You don’t pay them any mind, gaze still locked on Nikolai, as you hit him on the chest.
“You still have the mind of a sailor, I see,” you drawl. “But I must admit I also miss it. The simplicity, if anything.”
“Just because I didn’t keep a king’s mantle on deck doesn’t mean I wasn’t outfitted in the same gaudy way,” Nikolai says. “A Lantsov must always be prepared, you know.”
“Well, I used to hate that blue frock of yours, especially when we first reunited,” you muse. You extract your hand and trail your fingers down his current coat—he shivers at your touch even through the material. “Now I think I prefer it over anything else in your wardrobe.”
He frowns. “You hated my coat?”
“I hated a lot of things at the time,” you say wryly. Your hand finds its way back to his and you intertwine them together again. “Besides, it’s grown on me.”
Nikolai chuckles, and the two of you fall silent when you shift and rest your head on his shoulder. You’ve managed to find your way to the edge of the ballroom, and it gives you a little more privacy. You stand together, watching as everyone mingles, half bearing a fake smile and the other half lying through their teeth. He didn’t think the Ravkan court would like to think they had more in common with his lying, cheating, stealing crew than they thought.
“So,” Nikolai says, finally breaking the silence, “is being back everything you’ve imagined?”
You huff. “Hardly. Everything is so… restrained.”
He hums in acknowledgement. “Speaking of restrained, have your parents gotten over their fit yet?”
Your laugh is sharper this time. “Once again, hardly. You’d think I murdered the queen the way they’re treating me.”
Nikolai expected that, to be honest. He insisted on being by your side in the initial reunion and they didn’t dare act out of turn in front of royalty, but you said the moment you returned to your palace apartment with them, they yelled at you loud enough to be heard in Novyi Zem.
“They should be thankful,” Nikolai scoffs. “It’s like they don’t even care what nearly happened to you because of their haste to marry you off.”
“I don’t even like to think about it,” you murmur. He feels you shiver and he pulls you even closer to him. “But I was right—they want me to be who I was before I left. They’re even convinced that they can get me to agree to the marriage they’ve got planned.”
His frown deepens. “Saints, must I sweep you off your feet in front of all of Ravka to get everyone to realize you’re a taken woman? I am a very good shot, but I’ve only got so many bullets—”
“Nikolai,” you interrupt with a laugh, raising your head to look him in the eye. He’s glad to see the lightness has returned. Your near fate isn’t a subject either of you like to talk about. “You don’t need to worry, and you certainly don’t need to worry about that.” You cup his cheek with your hand and he leans into your touch. “If one thing has stayed the same through all of this, it’s that you’re the only one out there for me. After all the pomp and circumstance you have to perform with Alina is over, you can tell them yourself.”
“Good,” Nikolai says with a slight smile. “Because I don’t think I can stand to hear Aslanov talk about the grapes his family’s been growing for another second.”
You laugh again, and you lean in to press a kiss to his lips. Nikolai beats you to it as he covers your hand with his own, using his other to draw you even closer. Practically every part of you is touching as he kisses you like a starving man, with your lips against his and your perfume invading his senses and your soft moan that’s muffled against his mouth. After a night spent away from your side and having to watch other men compete fruitlessly for your affections, he might as well be.
When you finally pull away, lipstick a mess and pupils dilated and expression nothing less than adoration, it takes everything Nikolai has in him not to take your face in his hands and do it all over again. He wants to mess up your hair, your makeup, kiss your lips until they’re swollen and ravish, worship your body until you can think of nothing but him, say nothing but his name.
“Nikolai,” you gasp, interrupting his sinful thoughts, “do you want to get out of here for a bit?”
Whatever restraint he previously had dissolves with your words as he kisses you again, harder this time. You’re water when he’s dying, a lifeboat when he’s drowning, the very air he needs to breathe. Everything has come to a head after such a boring, strength-testing night, and all Nikolai wants is you.
He brings you even closer with the arm he has around your waist, already starting to pull you along as he heads towards the doorways. He’s sure to stick to the walls, not wanting to draw more attention than necessary when even the flushed warmth of your heated skin through his jacket is enough to drive him crazy.
Nikolai doesn’t know how he ever spent seven years away from you. He could barely handle half a ball.
“More than anything,” he breathes.

Part two of ,,An uninvited guest in life"
A/n: I don't know what to say here. Sorry for spelling mistakes if i made any
Warnings: kidnapping and that's it
An uninvited guest in life (part 2)
You woke up in something like a basement. Your hands are tied, but your mouth is not taped.
You: HELP! HELP!
You heard footsteps near you, but you couldn't see the person because it was very dark.
Unknown kidnapper: No one is going to hear you down here.
You: Who are you? Where i am? Where's Nikolai?
Unknown kidnapper: You have to worry about yourself, not about your prince!
You: Let me go!
Unknown kidnapper: Cooperate and I might decide to let you go! And not to kill you.
You: Okay....
The stranger came out of the room you are in and heard him calling people named Inej and Jesper.
The man came back.
You: Why do you need me?!
A calm female voice answers you: We need you for a job.
You: Whyy?
The girl: Because you're the sun saint!
You: Where are we?! Are we still in the palace?! Nikolai will search for me!
The gruff male voice from a moment ago answered you: Inei was trying to be nice because she respects you, but I won't be so condescending!
You: You give out the names of the people who help you steal Ravka's most valuable asset!
The unknown male kidnapper: Your maids have been told that you will retire to your rooms because you have a fever.
You: But that's a lie!
Inej: Kaz be nice to her! She is a saint!
You: Oh so i know your names! Where's the Jesper?
Jesper: Oh she know me!
You: I heard your boss to talk with you. Are you stupid?
Jesper: Don't be rude darling!
You: You all are awful! And you Inej, I don't know if you respect me or not, but that's not a good way to welcome a saint! Don't you think?
No one answered your question, so they walked out and left you. Turns out you're on a ship to Ketterdam.
When you go ashore, they let you go, but you don't run, because there is no way to return to your home, to Nikolai. You help them with their work and after 2 months, which was longer than expected for the crows, they buy you a ticket to Ravka.
When you return to the Grand Palace, you are already caught at the threshold by all the Grishas. They immediately lead you to Nikolai's chambers. On the way there, Nadia and Marie tell you that shortly after they announced you as disappeared , the royal family dies of some disease and only Nikolai remains alive. Days and nights he is looking for information about you. Since he is already king, his schedule was very busy, but he still found time to look for you.In general, he almost got sick from worry. When you reach the king's chambers, you see Nikolai hanging over his desk. The others closed the door after you and left.
He had lost quite a bit of weight, he looked tired, his eternal enthusiasm had been replaced by worry and pain, and his lovely blond hair was matted.
He didn't look up from the desk
You: Nikolai...
His head snapped up and he looked at you. Happiness and relief were written on his face.
Nikolai: Y/n....Is that really you?
You nodded smiling. A tear make its way down your cheek: I missed you, moi tsar!
Nikolai dropped all his work, closed the distance between you with a few steps and lifted you into the air.
You: Whoa don't pick me up, you're not strong enough!
Nikolai: Oh sweetheart I'm not that skinny!
You cried and rested your head on his chest.
You: You don't look good! I'm worried!
Nikolai: I always look good, dear!

still be here in the morning?
Nikolai Lantsov x F!Reader
Summary: You drive Nikolai wild. You want him to see you, to see you, but you're scared. If you give in to your desires and you let yourself fall, will he still be there in the morning?
Word Count: 2.9K
Warnings: SMUTTY SMUT, LOTS OF SMUT, lots of teasing, a lil bit of angst, and some fluff. Also the reader's nickname is Mouse - but it's not a size thing, it's an occupation thing *thumbs up emoji*
Repost
It was safe to say you drove Nikolai wild. You hardly listened to his rules, questioning your Captain in his every decision and driving him crazy with your constant bickering. You knew that you could, you were Nikolai's star crewmate and he would never risk firing you. No one was a better diplomat, marksman, or sailor - except perhaps Nikolai himself. You were a good detective too - you were the only one of his crew to have figured out his true identity.
You had teased him about it on a brief visit to West Ravka - an old family painting had given it all away.
"You'll never guess what I found, Cap." You said, waltzing into his quarters and jumping up onto his desk. He tilted his face up to you - indicating that he was listening - but kept his eyes focused on the maps laid in front of him, studying new routes out west. You were only docked in Os Kervo to collect a round of new supplies - enough to keep you afloat to Novyi Zem or even further.
"Tell me, Mouse. What have you found that is so worth sharing that you break into my quarters?" He used the affectionate nickname you had picked up since joining the crew - you were quiet, almost undetectable when need by. Of course, Nikolai knew how annoying and boisterous you could get when you were comfortable. Still, the nickname had stuck. In fact, you were almost certain that aside from Nikolai, and the twins, no one could remember your true name. It didn't matter. You had moved on from that life.
"Well, Tolya and I spent most of our afternoon in the galleries in Os Kervo-"
"-leaving Tamar to collect the supplies? Yes, I heard about that. Just because you keep us out of trouble with the law does not mean that you get to delegate all your duties to someone else. We work together, Mouse, you'd do well to remember it."
"Yes, yes, she said she was fine with it. Something about getting Tolya's poetic arse off her back for a few hours," Nikolai chuckled at that, "And anyway, the interesting thing is what I found in the galleries. You see, despite the Fold, West Ravka is still a united nation-"
"I'm aware."
"Stop interrupting me!" You swatted him with a loose piece of paper on his desk, "It's rude. You'd have thought that you had some manners - what with your pretentious nature."
"Is there a point to this, Mouse? Because I suggest you get there soon."
"Well, what I was saying was, I came across a portrait. A new one - well, sort of. It had the King - Pyotr, that is - and his wife, and their sons. Did you know that they had 2? I had simply forgotten." A cheeky grin had snuck onto your face and Nikolai was now looking directly at you. You leaned in close to his ear, "I'd say they did the younger son a disservice, wouldn't you? Your Highness?"
Nikolai moved swiftly, clamping his hand down over your mouth. "Does Tolya know?"
You move his hand off your mouth, "Of course not. I'm not one to be going around spreading rumours that are not mine to spread."
"Good. And you're going to keep it that way. Especially if you want to stay on this ship."
"Oh, Nikolai. You're not going to fire me. You won't risk having the biggest threat to your secret not on your side. I'm a diplomat - I know how intimidation works," Nikolai fixes you with a stare, "Ok, I was a diplomat, whatever. Semantics. Point is, you're not going to fire me. Your secrecy depends on it."
After that day, your teasing had increased ten-fold and Nikolai's patience with you had decreased just as much. He hardly spoke to you if he didn't have orders to give you. And it pissed you off.
To be perfectly honest, you made his blood boil. Nikolai didn't know what it was about you, but you knowing who he was had tipped him over the edge. He thought that he was untraceable - a new persona, a new look. He'd made a point to never dock in Ravka - but needs must and there was no way they'd survive a trip to Kerch. They'd been running on fumes. To be honest, the trip had gone better than expected. But of all the people to find out, it just had to be you. He stewed alone in his chambers. They were currently in Novyi Zem, planning to head further west. Ravka had no power further west than Novyi Zem, a notion which many - including you - were grateful for.
He'd never taken the time to understand what you were running from - almost everyone in his crew was running from some demon, but you had never once let slip who you were before you joined Sturmhond's crew. He knew that you were a diplomat of some kind and that you were half-Ravkan, but beyond that, you were a mystery to him. Perhaps that's what pissed him off. That you knew exactly who he was and who he had been and he knew nothing about you.
A knock came at his door. Who the fuck could that be? To his knowledge, everyone was out partying in the taverns. Who could resist a peaceful night out when you spent every other night on a ship sailing in the middle of an ocean? Nikolai could. And so could this mystery person apparently. Nikolai opened his door before the guest knock again, groaning when he caught sight of who it was. You were standing at his door - coat and boots discarded and your shirt haphazardly untied. You pushed past him and made yourself comfortable in his chair, smiling as he ran a hand over his face.
"Awhh, don't look too happy to see me, Sturmhond. Or should I say, Nikolai?" You'd taken to teasing him in the privacy of his room, where you were sure no one could hear you.
"What do you want, Mouse?"
"I just wanted to see how my dear Majesty was holding up. It has been a rough week for us all."
"Cut the bullshit. I know you're here to piss me off. Not tonight, Mouse. Please."
"Ooh. I like it when you beg. Do it again." You grinned at him. You knew you were getting under his skin.
"I said not tonight. Get out, Mouse. Go piss off some drunkard in a tavern." Nikolai said, nearly pushing you out of the door. "Maybe he can fuck the attitude out of you," he whispered under his breath.
"Make me."
"I'm sorry, what?" Nikolai said, turning around to face you again.
"I said, make me, Lantsov."
"I told you to stop fucking using that name," Nikolai growled, pushing you up against the wall, his arm pushing under your boob. You flushed pink, heat pooling in your stomach.
Nikolai grinned, "Oh, I see." He looked you up and down, scanning your figure. You could feel your underwear soak with every second of his gaze.
"What do you see, Captain? Need me to get you a spyglass. Could help you-" You were cut off by Nikolai's lips on yours. They were soft, gentle, and yet demanding at the same time. It was nice. This was nice.
"Is that what you wanted, Mouse? Attention from your Captain?" The honourific felt dirty coming from his mouth. You felt the desire to push him further - to piss him off until he gave you what you wanted. What you needed.
"Are you sure it's not what you wanted Captain? You seem to be a lot more excited by this than I am."
Nikolai nearly growled at that, attaching his lips to yours again, before slipping your belt off. He slipped his hands down to your core, feeling the wetness and smirking.
"Not as excited as me, huh?" He rubbed a circle around your clit and watched your defenses crumble. You grabbed a fistful of his jacket in your hand as your hips bucked away from him.
Nikolai lifted you up easily, depositing you on his desk, "I wanted to fuck you that day. When you hopped up on this desk and threatened me the first time. Should've done it. Should've shown you exactly who the boss is around here."
He grabbed the small knife he kept in his breast pocket off the desk and flicked it open. You gasped. Nikolai grazed the knife against the outside of your hip, slicing cleanly through your underwear. You were glad you'd taken off your stays earlier - you weren't sure if you could survive him ruining your most comfortable stays.
He placed a gentle kiss on your throat before pulling your shirt off. He gazed at you, momentarily starstruck, before latching his mouth onto your nipple. A hand came up to toy with the other, and you dissolved into a moaning mess.
He pulled away from your nipple to grin at your state. You looked at him breathlessly, grinning, "Is that all you've got, Lantsov."
His stare turned dark. He dove down and buried himself in your pussy. He licked and nipped, flicking your clit with his tongue. He played you like a well-tuned instrument. He fucked your hole with his tongue - alternating between stroking your walls with his tongue and sucking on your clit.
Your orgasm washed over you unexpectedly, sending waves of pleasure through your veins. You clamped your thighs around Nikolai's head, throwing your head back as you cried out.
Nikolai lifted his head up, eyes glinting dangerously, wetness smeared all around his lips. He looked devious. In that moment, he was not Nikolai Lantsov, spare to the Lantsov name, but Sturmhond, masterful privateer, Captain of Volkvolny. You loved him for it.
"You've caused me a lot of trouble, Mouse."
"What are you going to do about it?" You bit your lip, hiding a smirk.
He threw his coat off, carrying you towards his bed. You were lucky that no one else was on board - if they heard what was going on you'd never live it down.
Nikolai laid you on the bed, stripping his clothes off at extraordinary speed. He was quickly inside you, eliciting whimpers from you at every movement. He gave you a moment to adjust before he started to thrust. His hips snapped into you at an ungodly pace and it was all that you could do to not fall apart on his cock.
Nikolai grinned at your silence, his eyes scanning over you. Your face was blissed out, eyes rolling to the back of your head every so often. Sweat glistened on your skin, as you rocked forwards at the force of his every thrust. He couldn't help the small praises that fell from his lips as you moaned lowly.
"Look at you, so fucking beautiful under me, spread out for me like a whore. That's what you are, my beautiful little whore." You moaned at the filth dripping out of his mouth, "What's wrong, sweetheart? Have I fucked the little mouse stupid? No words left to taunt me now, huh?" You moaned softly, your mouth almost stuck in the shape of an 'O'. "Maybe I should do this more often, keep you quiet for longer." You nodded your head, head too foggy to come up with another smart-ass response.
Your second and third orgasms crashed over you in quick succession - Nikolai clamped his hand over your mouth as you screamed 'Nikolai' over and over again. He promised that next time he'd fuck that name out of your brain, before pulling out and cumming all over your chest.
You lay on his bed - dazed from the intense fucking you just received. You were surprised to find yourself alone in Nikolai's bed - he'd disappeared moments after cumming. He'd said something but you were still coming down from your last high when he moved away. You began to spiral. Of course, he was only fucking you to teach you a lesson - why else would he be interested in you? You idiot! He's the prince of fucking Ravka and the Captain of this ship. What do you have that would interest him, apart from your bratty mouth and attitude? He said it himself - the attitude pissed him off.
You were startled when something cold made contact with your chest. You looked up to find Nikolai with something in his hand - a wet washcloth, maybe? - and a sheepish grin on his face. He was still naked, his hair still tousled and his face still flushed. An involuntary beam broke out across your face. He didn't leave you after all.
Nikolai was taken by surprise at the tears that gathered on your lash line. He pulled you up into his chest when you were clean, sitting on the edge of his bed with you held tightly in his arms.
"Hey, hey, hey." He said, drawing mindless shapes on your back as tears streamed down your face, "What's wrong? Did I hurt you?" He was confused - surely, if he hurt you, you wouldn't be seeking comfort in him.
His heart slowed slightly when you shook your head, but the confusion remained.
"Talk to me, Mouse. What's going on in that pretty little head of yours?"
"It's stupid."
"It's not. If it matters to you, then it matters to me. Tell me, whatever it is, I'll fix it." Another wave of emotion washed over you. You climbed into his lap and he wrapped his arms around you, pulling you into his chest.
"I thought you were mad." You whispered quietly, almost hoping he wouldn't hear you and that he would let it go.
"Why would I be mad?"
"You left." You shrugged, "You left and I thought you were gone for good." He pressed a kiss to your temple and pulled your head into his chest.
"Oh, Mouse. For all your genius, you are oblivious." You looked up at him, confused. "I love you, Mouse. I always have." You shook your head, "What?"
"You're just saying that." You said, tears filling your lash line again as you tried to pull away, "You're just saying that 'cause you fucked me and you don't want me to leave." You tried to move out of his arms but he held you firmly. You hit his chest, trying to force yourself off him, but he stood his ground. Eventually, you just melted into his arms - he held you as you cried, hands stroking your hair soothingly.
You calmed down slowly, chest heaving as you tried to replenish your lungs. You stayed relaxed in his arms. He laid his head on top of yours. "Wanna tell me what that was about?"
You shook your head.
"Do you trust me?"
You nodded your head.
"Do you trust me enough to believe me when I say I love you?"
You hesitated.
"Well, we've found our problem."
"You don't love me."
"How do you know? You been inside my head? Pretty sure even Grisha can't do that." You chuckled.
"You hate me. You can't even look at me - let alone talk to me for long enough to fall in love with me."
"I can't look at you because if I start looking I'll never look away. I can't talk to you because I look like a fool every time I try and string two words together in front of you. Ask Tolya - he'll tell you how hopelessly in love with you I am. And for someone who's not interested in romance, he's a fucking hopeless romantic." His words involuntarily brought a smile onto your face.
You looked into his eyes, "You're sure you love me?"
"Honey, you drive me wild."
You nestled into his arms, and he leaned you both back onto the bed. Your head hit his pillow and suddenly you're surrounded by him. His arms wrap around you tightly, his pillow smells like him, his face is right next to yours. It's nice. Comforting.
You looked up into his face, studying his features while he slept. He was pretty - objectively. His face was long - pointy. Someone had done a terrible job of fixing his broken nose - but it seemed off at a second glance. He seemed so different than the paintings in the gallery - more difference than age alone could bring. His eyes were the giveaway - they were muddy green at first glance but under the right light and if you stared long enough, they were the same hazel green as the ones in the painting. You reached up to stroke his face. How long would this all last? How long until he wouldn't be able to play pretend anymore? How long until he had to go back to being Prince Nikolai Lantsov of Ravka? How long did you have with him in this beautiful bubble that you had created? You could already hear the rest of the crew filtering in from their nights out.
A hand came up to wrap around yours, "Sleep, Mouse. I'll still be here in the morning."
You smiled. He'd still be here in the morning.

Unsaid
Summary/Notes : 250 words. Ravka has its own set of words that must be said when a monarch marries. That doesn’t stop Nikolai from still writing some for you anyways.
Tried my best to keep description of reader as little as possible. No physical description beyond being able to see. Short and sweet.
*Don’t repost my work without my permission. *Don’t translate my work without my permission.
My Darling,
I still remember the first time we met. You were sitting in the garden admiring the environment around you. A set of books in your lap. I remember everything you communicated to me about your life. The joy you found in the gardens and in your scholarly work. I remember this energy and joy I had never seen before.
Try as I might, and against the wishes of many, I fell in love you. I fell in love with your mind, your heart, your wisdom, your wit.
I spent countless nights falling asleep, dreaming of you in my arms, sharing joy and utter bliss as we fell asleep, unbothered by the outside world.
Your empathy and joy is unmatched, and it shall make for a generous and strong leader for the people of Ravka.
I’m so glad I mastered climbing out the window so I could sneak out and see you. I dare say I have become a master in the matter.
I love you. I will love you, always. Saints! I think I love you even more every day and I wish to never be parted from you from this day forward.
Love,
Nikolai Lantsov, your favorite king.
Nikolai folded and sealed the paper and writing your name atop it. Debating in his mind whether or not to share his words with you during your ceremony and screw all tradition, or keep his advisors pleased. He went with the former. He doesn’t regret it, to this day.

Scars
"Nikolai?"
"Yes?"
"I love that scar by your mouth.." it was a small silver line by his mouth.
"I don't have scars on my face"
"You do"
"Okay"
To his surprise, he finds, while shaving, a little white line by his mouth.
How had you even noticed it?
