. . After several months of fighting, this 🍀 #Guzmania is about to bloom and burst into colours in the #Kokedama . . . Few fights are like that. First the healthy plants travelled to its station, they came damaged. Some rough hands at the transport service troubled it so much that they were broken and bruised. . . Then we decided to give them some intensive care. But few slugs were waiting to devour them as food. After a number of days we realised that the night monster is eating the plant off. A more watchful eye removed the slugs and snails and let the plants grow. . . Then the summer hot months, they didn't allow the plants to thrive. Additionally, the plants decided to hibernate. . . Now after several months, the orangish-red blooms are on its way. . . 🍀#Guzmanias are 🍀 #bromeliad variety, they are 🍀 #ephiphytes and are considered #airplants . . Guzmania in #Kokedamas is our first experience, while we have had several other #Bromeliads thriving in Kokedamas. . . . . The Sunday started a bit late today, for a change woke up late...from a working Sunday since many months to a social Sunday...for a change.. . . A French Press coffee with a dribble of caramel from @coffee_nirvana . . Feet painted in dual colours, the after effects of going out with DD (the to-be-teen), shopping after a long time. . . Then lunch with Sheetal, @fromquerencia and hand-delivering her #Kokedamas. She has picked up few plants for us from one of her trips. This Mini Kokedama, this is the one that I refused to send for a client's order when a night before sending, my metaphoric dreams told me to keep this one back with me, and that was the first thing I decided to do that morning... . . Originally this Mini Kokedama has a 🍀 #Crasulla Capitella Campfire #Succulent , which is now hidden and less significant. Over a period of time, nature brought out its different treasures that is hidden underneath. The Moss had preserved a tiny seed/tuber of a 🍀Wild Tree #colocasia, and those little green hearts 💚 began sprouting and growing naturally in this #Kokedama. This mini Kokedama should be around 2 - 3 months old. Loved and cared for, it brought me new gifts. . What really stopped me sending it to the client was another story, and that appeared as a part of my dream. My favourite fairytale story has always been Thumbelina. I remember in my STD 1, in my boarding school, a girl named Suchitra first narrated Thumbelina to me. While I was very familiar with Cindrella and Snow-white and Hansel and Gretel and Rapunzel, Thumbelina intrigued me the most. In retrospect Suchitra must be a great storyteller, and I don't know where she is now. Since I had not read Thumbelina from a book, I had made my mental visuals. So for me Thumbelina lived on these heart shaped leaves and Lily pads. I had almost the same visuals as this colocasia plant, tiny plants that just fits the Thumb! . . I have loved those visuals in my head, they are still strong and beautiful imprints in my brain, and I wanted to keep this as a childhood memory of those sweet and pleasant things. . Now let me call this Kokedama - Thumbelina!! . . •Syngoniun Stories• . . Management and maintenance of #Kokedama is not rocket science. . . This lush green 🍀Syngonium, with a firm moss ball and well established roots is 7 months old. The moss is also regrowing greener. The last picture in the series shows the one when it was fresh and nascent. . . This Kokedama was made and was displayed in my Mom-in-laws home when I made few #Kokedamas during my visit to her place in February. She was very thrilled because she always appreciates anything that is unique and hand created. . . When she asked me how she would maintain it, I told her to just water it. And she did. It is TRUST. . . And then something unforeseen happened. She had to stay out of her home for about 3 months, she was here with us. The caretaker of her house just followed the regimen of watering and gently caring. No frills, no fuss. Just TRUST. . . And then Mom-in-Law returns home and describes how the Kokedama has grown. I requested her to please send it to me, because I just wanted to tell the world that - maintaining a Kokedama is not rocket science. First you need to TRUST. And then you do what is required. . . Few clients write in to me about their flourishing Kokedamas. Few write to me with their lovely experiences of learning and discoveries with the Kokedama which are beautiful stories. Few don't give any feedback at all, I keep wondering, but I understand that it is my limitation. . But many would just write in or call to crib and complain. I sometimes feel miserable with this loss of TRUST in people, in humanity, and how we have lost trust in the nature and environment. . . Kokedama is TRUST. The trust grows with you. . . This Indian native plant the ~ Madabilata, or ~ Madhovi Lata , or ~ Madhu Malti... . scientifically the ~ Hiptage Bengalensis... oh! what splendid flowering vine, so common and so beautifully spread and so so so nostalgic!!! . . . So this was the Show Stopper at the AwhGUST sale yesterday... . . We had a couple of other Kokedamas that were almost show-stoppers, but the way this one was attractive, and catchy...that we artfully (I mean artfully!!!) protected it for quite a while keeping it as an exhibit more than a piece for sale (some selling strategies 😉)... . . Although it was a reserved piece (reserved by a friend in a friendly manner)....Finally we let go to a client towards the end of the second day, who was yet another sincere fan of the Show Stopper!!! . . And many of you to whom I promised that I will get you this... PROMISE IS A PROMISE, please push me, goad me, nag me, badger me...or may be none of it, I promise to get you. For many of us who found this plant rare (includes me) and not knowing name (including me), not knowing the genus, phyllum, species (not in an order) . . This is known as the ~Lipstick plant (although there is another different plant with same name, and it's not that) , this one is also called the ~ Pagoda vine or the ~ Aeschynanthus. . . Now the good news is that - IT WILL FLOWER. .
