it's (always) you! Having to come up with 31 different meet cute universes for an entire month was a CHALLENGE, and I knew that going into it. I had a lot of fun trying to figure out how James and Lily would meet in every universe and while not all of them are winners, I'm both really glad I challenged myself, and I'm happy with how the collection turned out!

I'm in love with A Light In The Shadows. I know it is just starting, but it's my baby and I love it.

One of the big reasons I love it is the world-building - it's so much fun to establish guidelines and rules about magic that were not explored in the books.

🦋 Which character is your favorite to write?

I have really enjoyed writing the parent POV in the ALITS Part 1. It allows me so much more freedom to write about the young children and the life they have when it is from the parent's POV. I think it is so telling when we can understand the environment the child is in from the parent's POV. Also, the fact that Sirius' and Snape's chapters lack more Parent POV than when they were born is very telling.

Outside of that, I think Lily is my favorite, she is so complex, and I love figuring her out!

1. ARE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?

My middle name is my great-great grandparents' surname. They immigrated from Vevey, Vaud, Switzerland around 1850. My mum and one of my nieces also have it as a middle name, and if I ever have a kid -- regardless of gender -- they'll have it as well. I used to hate it when I was a kid because no one where I grew up could either spell or pronounce it correctly, but now I love it.

2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?

I don't know exactly. I know I got drunk and listened to Beethoven a few weeks ago, so it was probably then. I find it cathartic, and will do it on occasion just for that release.

3. DO YOU HAVE KIDS?

Nein.

4. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT?

I tend to be rather dry as opposed to sarcastic.

5. WHAT SPORTS HAVE YOU PLAYED/DO YOU PLAY?

I'm reading this as asking which sports I've done in an official competitive setting outside of gym class, in which case, I've competed in: dance (ballet and tap); gymnastics; softball; basketball; orienteering; swimming; marathoning (and other road races); and I shoot pool. I, um, love sports.

6. WHAT'S THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE?

Probably their hair and general countenance.

7. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS?

I like scary movies, I enjoy happy endings, but what I really can't resist is a tragedy.

8. ANY SPECIAL TALENTS?

I can dislocate my shoulders and belch on command. I've got a pretty good head for facts and figures and do pretty well at trivia. I also do well at karaoke and drawing, and just generally being a consummate badass 😎.

9. WHERE WERE YOU BORN?

St Louis, Missouri, USA.

10. WHAT ARE YOUR HOBBIES?

I love puzzles!! Crosswords are my favourite, and have been since my grandmother taught me how to do them when I was little, but I also love jigsaw puzzles, word puzzles, rebuses, cryptoquips, sudokus, etc. You name it, I probably want to solve it. I also love travelling (I pretty much just save my money to travel), drawing, reading, running my mouth, pool (like billiards, not like beach), and going to restaurants and playing critic (I do this with breweries as well, but not as often). I love trying new things. I'll get too bored otherwise. I also just like wandering around.

11. DO YOU HAVE ANY PETS?

Not currently. Fishies would be relaxing. If I ever move to a larger place where I'd have space for a decent-sized tank, I'd look into having fish again.

12. ALL-TIME FAVOURITE PIECE OF MEDIA?

I had some smartass answer in my head when I sat down to start answering these questions, but it's left me now. Trust me, it was terribly clever and witty.

13. FAVOURITE SUBJECT IN SCHOOL?

History and Human Anatomy and Physiology. I also adored Geography in middle school (it wasn't offered as a class in my district past that point, which is a real shame).

14. WHAT IS YOUR DREAM JOB?

As many others have said, I do not dream of labour. I just want to explore and be paid for it, lol. I did just apply for a job with a major airline, so, hopefully, that pans out as the position pays well enough and there are travel perks.

Being a pathologist would be wicked cool and suit me as well. Medical mysteries are just another puzzle.

15. WHAT IS YOUR EYE COLOUR?

I call it slate.

I would love to hear your director's commentary on the "I can’t just pretend that I don’t feel this way anymore"/"can you try?" part of ibfibg!! I think you probably have Things To Say about that!

Ahhhh Cam! Thank you so much for this ask, you are absolutely RIGHT! Putting it under the cut for spoilers :)

So I always knew this scene would happen in my outline—James confessing his feelings while Lily was losing herself in a breakdown—but other than the initial "You matter to me" line leading into an "I love you", and the fact that Lily would be too scared and overwhelmed to properly respond, THAT exchange came in the moment when I was writing.

It was important to me to make Lily respond almost dismissively at first (James' "Don't laugh" when she laughs at her mattering to him breaks my HEART), and then kind of get swallowed up by her own desperation as James became more and more insistent of his feelings. Because of course James is going to double down when the girl he loves doesn't think she's worth anything!

And James' confession (because it's a confession—you can tell it pains him to do it, that he knows she doesn't want to hear it) just barrels out of him, unprompted, and she's just standing there panicking.

And for awhile I had "I love you"/"Can you try not to?" but I just didn't gel with it. I think it's something with the framing of his feelings and Lily's response (I hope this makes sense). In this original example, Lily's response is more asking him to repress something, vs the addition of him justifying his love with "I can’t just pretend that I don’t feel this way anymore" and Lily's "Can you try?" almost having an edge of hopefulness that he can refute the feelings and do better than her (and thus save himself from the pain their demise).

And James picks up on this immediately and tries to tell her she deserves better than she's used to getting and he's going to be the one to stay and prove it to her...and then it devolves into a heavily charged classic James/Lily back and forth because that's something that's comfortable to them, even if there's this intense current underwriting that argument.

But then James falters and tries to turn the conversation back to sincerity and Lily knows if she hears him say anything kind to her again she's at a point where she might not be strong enough to resist so she just acts. Emotions are so high and honestly I go back and forth between whether James knew this was her coping or if he thought this was her way of responding to his words in kind without having to say it back. (Would love to hear how people interpreted it!)

Whatever it was, he definitely didn't expect her to leave afterwards. But I'm a devious angst-maniac so 🤌🏼 ✌🏼

I think I haven't actually posted anything from Oh My God, She's Insane on Tumblr, so here's the beginning for you guys:

People say there’s a fine line between brilliance and insanity. James Potter had always been very well acquainted with that line. He’d toed it and hopscotched across it, sometimes landing on one side, sometimes on the other, but always keeping close to it, retreating to the safe side before danger caught up with him. Unlike Lily Evans, who had apparently decided to stomp past it until she was a miniature dot on the horizon. “Are you fucking insane, Evans?” “What?” she challenged. “It’s a great plan. We need information. He likes redheads. It’s the obvious solution. Dumbledore agreed with me.” James used to think that Dumbledore was the greatest wizard of all time, a light beam of knowledge and a mastermind of strategy. Now he was watching his senile form disappear in the distance, hand in hand with Lily’s sense of self-preservation. “He is very likely a Death Eater, and he’s smart enough to have avoided all suspicion till now.” “So what makes you think he’ll be stupid enough to harm me?” “If you’re alone with him? In his house?” He ran a hand through his hair – no, both hands, the situation was too frustrating for just the one. “Have you seen his house, Evans? It’s huge and well-guarded with all sorts of protective charms and magical shields. If he finds you snooping around his stuff, he’ll throw you into some basement cellar and you’ll never see the light of day again, and that’s the best case scenario.” Lily waved a dismissive hand at him. “I’ll be fine. The worst he can do is disappoint in bed.”
