This is probably an unpopular opinion, but I personally prefer to think of Noa and Mae as chaotic frienemies rather than as a couple.

Here’s what I mean!:

Mae:

- Teaches Noa to curse.

- Chronic rule breaker.

- Gets sh!t done. Ignore the blood stains!

- No she totally doesn’t have a gun…!

- Quick thinker, mostly the brains out of the two.

- Cold, cynical, has more enemies than friends.

- Can and will punch people in the face if they pissed her off.

Noa:

- Mae’s (reluctant) ape conscience…Sometimes he can convince her NOT to break rules.

- Much more likely to stop and smell the roses. Much more chill and easy going.

- Peacekeeper first, fighter second. Prefers to reason and settle disputes without resorting to violence. They argue over this all the time.

- “You had a GUN this whole time?!”

- Has lots of friends. Pretty much the only reason Mae hangs out with Soona and Anaya (Raka would have befriended her regardless).

- Obeys the laws and rules…Unless they’re stupid and need to be broken anyway!

- Tells Mae to behave herself…And also holds her back when she’s about to punch someone!

Both of them:

- They’re suspicious of each other, never sure if the other is truly loyal to them.

- But there is a degree of trust between them. They have each others back in their own ways (Noa returning to find/help Mae and Raka-Mae pulling out her gun to protect Noa, Soona and Anaya).

- Mae will punch people on Noa’s behalf (whether he asks or not). If they hurt Noa, she’ll break their nose and while Noa won’t say so, he does appreciate her standing up for him.

- Silent agreement to not kill each other…Though there have been attempts/threats in the past…It’s been a wild battle getting them to tolerate each other, let’s just say that.

- More than once Raka had to break up fights between them.
