A head cannon I've had for a while, is that the Water Tribes had an agreement with the Air Nation to harvest lumber from their lands.

The Air Nation has a bunch of territory on roughly the same latitude as Kyoshi Island, so it stands to reason they've got trees.

The Air Nomads also don't have any good way to transport bulky cargo like grain or stone (sky bison are fast but limited in carrying capacity), so it makes sense that they might make arrangements with their sea-loving neighbors on the poles to trade sustainable lumber harvesting rights for preferential bulk trade agreements.

After Sozin's genocide, the Water Tribes continue their old tradition of harvesting wood for ships from Air Nomad land, but the cultural memory of their previous give and take discourages them from outright taking over the more temperate islands.

his image in particular is based on desert nomand. I also tried to add details of the scientist and strategist in the design (maps, flasks for long trips). The hat and shoulder pads were originally created for a silhouette resemblance to the original design, but have acquired practical significance. now it's an element of disguise. I also tried to depersonalize him as much as possible with the help of a protective cloth 😗😗😗

thinking about the airbending mastery tattoos and if there was a specific ritual to them. i mean they most likely was made with with needles or ancient chisel/rake type of tool where there are several needles in one row and a hammer to puncture the ink in. though in history they were most of the time made from animal bones so i think the air nomands would have used rose thorn or something alike.

and also hand-tapped tattooing is very painful and parts of the tattoos go over the spine, under the armpits, inner thigh and over the head. Also the tattoos are a solid colour, so it would take a lot of ink and a lot of work to first put in the colour and then do the touch-ups. so i think the ritual of an airbender receiving their mastery tattoos would have taken months of work. And after, months of healing.

seeing the ask about nomand branch time travel

how will the interaction between thing and baby branch go, if branch finds him before he returns to his body? how will the past bros react to seeing their baby brother next to this unhinge troll( if thing was unhinged during the past)?

Branch would not be able to get to Thing (he ain’t stepping one foot outta that cage) If they would interact, it would be because of Thing finding him( now why thing is miles away from the forest in a town they’ve never seen before, I have no idea my theory,for funsies?) Thing would have no idea who this random grey troll is. But for some reason his every instinct is telling him to NOT eat this random troll (and since he normally wants to eat everything this surprises him)

The brothers are obviously scared and very worried (to be fair this random creature just showed up in the tree looking like a furball with rabies,not to mention it’s sharp teeth and nails) so the only good decision is to take Branch FAAAAARRR away from whatever that is! The first time they saw Thing was when Branch walked in the pod holding its hand (so Thing wouldn’t wander off) which shocked them since Branch has been avoiding affection all week (some jealousy occurs) Overall they hate Thing.

Also Thing was unhinged in the past just not as much (he was just an ankle biter gremlin that just sorta showed up in the village one day) He was never a threat since the worse he could do was bite. He did however grow into being a threat. The only thing stopping him from consuming the village is Branch.

Zecui (Paths Beyond)

I really thought we were going to lose the Xill in the OGL debacle - and we kind of did. They do have a replacement in Monster Core called the zeuci! They are considerably more bug like and implant larva into their eggs rather than eggs, but they clearly fill the same niche. In some ways, this makes the zeuci even worse than their predecessors. Instead of immobile eggs, the first stage of a zeuci infestation involves the larva wiggling around under the host skin. It doesn’t do anything mechanically, but worms under your skin is a special kind of disturbing body horror. If your table is comfortable with it, play it up for all it’s worth.

In the Tian Xia World Guide, Zecui feature prominently in the Valashmai Jungle, in 1e they were Xill bound to the Universe. Unfortunately, the ORC transition did drop one of the cooler bits about the Xill - their ties to the Ethereal Plane. This makes sense from a legal distinctiveness perspective, but it is a bummer for me. Nothing is stopping you from adding that tie back in at your own table, however! It can be a call out to the game’s publishing history, even if it can’t feature in products any more. Paizo won’t send Pinkertons after you!

An occultist coven has recently unearthed ancient Thassilonian research into the zecui and taken it to Xin-Shalast. With this knowledge, they believe they can not only survive a Zecui infestation, but bend the larva to their will. The rapidly growing cult preachs that it will usher in a glorious age of human-alien hybrids. Based on their trials so far, they are more likely to leave a trail of twisted bodies and madness in their wake.

Zecui who worship Xhamen-Dor appear to be immune to the Star Seed’s corruptive influence. These nomands implant spores from the Inmost Blot along with their own larva. If one infection does not consume their victims, the other one will, birthing either an alien fanatic or an undead monstrosity. The few who survive are still cursed, dreaming forevermore of lost Carcosa and developing mindscapes linked to that foul city.

While those who know of zecui can think of few things more nightmarish than their larval infestations, such a thing does exist. Xekk is brood speaker, who can telepathically control larva and guide their development. Even worse, she has a taste for torture and worships the kyton demagogue Morrobahn. Like her patron, she "helps" improve her victims with grafts and surgery, inevitably mediated by her psychically commanded brood. Those captured by the sadistic zeuci experience infection not once, but again and again.
