Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus and 5GHz Wi-Fi

Today I learned: the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 Plus does very poorly with 5GHz Wi-FI.

I switched Internet Service Providers today, and moved everybody from the old modem-and-router-combo Wi-Fi network to the new router. Every single device - laptops, phones, Chromecast, Sesame smart lock Wi-Fi module - works just fine with the new Wi-Fi network, except for one single Galaxy Note 10 Plus: it complains that the Wi-Fi is not connected to the Internet.

Restarting the router helped... for a while, until it suddenly started complaining of no Internet connectivity beyond the local network.

When Band Steering is on on the router, Wi-Fi clients can connect to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz (using the same SSID); turns out there's probably an endemic problem with this particular device (that I don't understand - if a client can't connect to 5GHz, like Chromecasts, it just... doesn't, rather than complain of networking issues).

Turning off Band Steering (which makes the router announce two separate SSIDs, one for 2.4GHz and one for 5GHz) - helped the Note 10 Plus stay connected.

(The thing is, the modem-and-router-combo that I'm about to send back to the provider is also forcefully limited to 2.4GHz. I have a feeling I forgot, and am re-learning this.)

also me: full time student (worth noting i wrote stupid here at first without realizing), 20-30 hours in customer service every week, teaching myself 3/4 classes, teaching myself advanced algebra with a teacher (basically just a proctor) who shuts down any/all asks for help, juggling college financial woes, navigating dying relationships/people abandoning and/or attacking me bc i don't have time for things i used to anymore, none of my hobbies are making me happy when and if i have time for them,, i have no time for myself, i'm on my second all-nighter this week, i'm perpetually exhausted in a way sleep isn't fixing, my body aches because i'm so tired, and i'm barely able to stay asleep when i do get the chance bc the anxiety wakes me up

#i'm so stressed man #sehtoast rambles #sehtoast vents? fuck if i know #i just feel like i can't get ahead #i used to be able to get all my shit done by friday and have the bulk of the weekend to myself #but that's not doable at all this term #i just had a whole ass mental breakdown over fucking homework #like i'm almost grateful T made it near impossible for me to cry bc like #i was going to have a whole sobbing crying breakdown and at least i only had to feel the mental and physical anguish of it instead #it's 3am and i just made coffee so i can do the rest of my work #luckily the last two are super little in comparison but #i can't keep doing 30 pages of notes with 10 pages of homework and a 40 question 'quiz' for math #on top of making like 7 excel spreadsheets a week #not including the 50 page readings for management plus the 50 questions that follow and the writing assignments #i'm so glad my ids class is easy. dr s is my personal jesus christ for being so gentle with her students #idk i'm just... really not doin well rn #at all #idk if anyone read this far in #if you did ily and appreciate you

finished fo1 today. it was a miserable, gruelling experience. do not recommend unless playing for the sake of series completion.

#on a serious note the game can be interesting in places but the gameplay itself is an absolute fun killer #maybe i’m too young/not the right demographic but i just did not enjoy the experience #i don’t really find it very interesting to click around blindly at the same pixels for 10 minutes because i don’t have any leads #it felt like doing homework lol #the factions and locations are kind of interesting but the characters are pretty flat #plus people really exaggerate how much of an ideology this game displays.#it kind of doesn’t have much of a political identity; which is fine because it’s not trying to be the marxist codex everyone thinks it is #i do genuinely believe that the series has benefited a lot from the games that followed. it clearly had a lot of potential!#but fo1 on its own? there’s not much there and i’m not sure why people pretend there’s more to it than there is.#talking to myself
