Finding out about the hairdresser lore 💔

i swear this discourse is making the rounds every week lately. and i’m sorry you’re gonna get caught in this crossfire anon, but i’m going to rant about this for a second.

first off, that quote isn’t even from a real source, it’s from a blog quoting a readers digest quiz they did not link to or screenshot, with no other context. i found this with 5 seconds of googling, by the way. second, his dad’s response seems totally neutral? “you don’t have to decide right now” seems like something i might also say to a five year old if they told me they didn’t know whether they wanted to be an astronaut or a marine biologist.

regardless, does this look like a guy who was forced into the nhl against his will and is secretly pining to be a hairdresser?

creating narratives is what we do around here, and if you want to have fun thinking about sid with secret hairdresser dreams that’s great! but passing around screenshots of a (bad) transcription of a random quote from 20 years ago with no effort to find a source or any other context, and then using it to invent a sob story narrative about sidney crosby’s homophobic parents on a public platform like twitter is weird and irresponsible in my opinion.

okay yes, i like fun. i write fanfiction, im not judging you for playing make believe on the internet. but there’s a real difference between idk, talking about getting sidney crosby pregnant on twitter, and saying his dad was abusive. maybe you’re kidding when you reblog something like that, but the problem with twitter vs a more insular platform like tumblr, is it’s not going to stay within your audience. and with every retweet and quote tweet and screenshot, more and more context is lost until you end up with a bunch of people thinking it’s a real fact.

sorry to be your tumblr friend who’s too woke, but i see this as a microcosm of a much bigger, more dangerous issue. i really really really need everyone to stop taking everything they see on the internet at face value, including this kind of stuff. we are living in a time where you’re more likely to see misinformation than truth, where we quite literally cannot trust any image or video we see, and where people are using chatgpt instead of their brain for everything, including human connection and therapy.

i need everyone to get in the habit of pausing and assessing with a critical eye everything they read or see that’s not on ao3.com. PLEASE take 10 seconds and google to see if there’s a primary source before you ingest something and pass it along as truth.

36. What is their sense of humor like? Give an example of a joke they would find humorous.

Xiu: She has “internet humor”. She’s on social media a decent amount of time, esp on places like tumblr or instagram (whatever her universe equivalent would have to be due to Legality™). She finds stuff like those deep fried images w/ the laser eyes funny, but not really those “dank meme” type ones. She hates that particular brand of humor usually bc it’s from stupid ppl who like to be offensive for Kicks. However she also recognizes actually funny stuff don’t worry abt her she like, isn’t totally Online Humor. Likes Good Internet Humor, so like eliminating like half the stuff on here lol.

Jason: He likes Actually Funny Stuff. No I Don’t Know How To Elaborate On That. You know that #whatthefluff challenge? He likes stuff like that too. Very into puns and word play. Shakespearean insults can often be heard from him.

Marco: “That’s Cringe”. I don’t need to say more. Also big on internet humor but the actual funny kind like his cousin.

Gwen: Parodies are her favorite brand of comedy. 

And bc all of them are dumbass teens in one way or another they also like dirty humor. All are also big on vines. They share a youtube channel after all.

37. How easy is it for them to say “I love you”? Do they say it without meaning it?

In general, easy for Xiu and Jason to say. A bit harder for Marco to say. Hard for Gwen to say. Harder to say it with meaning for Xiu when she’s older, same for Gwen. Jason wanted everyone around him to know he cared abt them, grew up in a loving household and felt everyone deserved to hear it, whether or not it was romantic or platonic. However, his romantic ‘I love you’ is different than his platonic. Easy to tell when you’re the target of it. Xiu didn’t get as much love as she could’ve and wanted those around her that she cared about to know she loved them. However, it’s harder to throw around so easy post-Jason. Harder to know how much she means it, too. Harder to know if it’s ever truly said in a romantic way when you know she’s holding back. Marco just feels that the phrase is a special and wants to save it for those he finds worthy. Says it easily to close friends and family. Gwen has those same feelings, but she’s also afraid of getting hurt if she says it to the wrong person. She fears the vulnerability that can come with that statement. Doesn’t say it carelessly or w/o a good amount of thought.

93. What’s the most iconic line of dialogue they’ve ever said?

OH HARD BC I’M A BAD WRITER WHO KEEPS FORGETTING TO ACTUALLY WRITE HGSFJDG BUT Here is what I do have from the few things I’ve written:

Xiu: “Alright, you go save the world. I’ll make sure to text you to make sure you did just that.” - from an rp w/ a friend (Xiu met Booster Gold :P) or alternatively from the same rp -  “Maybe you might like it enough to come back, too.” Just bc it applies to her in a lot of ways as a character

Marco: “I think this is some dumb shit, Xi.” - short story

Gwen: “Xiu, please, please call me back. You said you would. Why haven’t you? Please, I’m scared. I miss you! Please.”

1. Who is more nervous on their first date?

Jae. He’s usually the confident one when it comes to stuff like dates but he loses all his cool around Prompto, and he never expected Prompto to like him back so this date just turns him into a blushing, stuttering mess.

2. Who can’t stop giggling when their partner kisses them all over their face?

Noctis! Imbris usually does this when he’s grumpy or notices that he’s had a bad day and tries her best to cheer him up by exaggerating all the kisses while calling him cutesy names in the highest voice she can muster. All the effort ends up making him laugh every time.  

7. What dance moves do they break out on the dancefloor together?

Doing Imbris/Noctis again. My heart says the entirety of SHINee’s Lucifer choreography because of how many times I’ve daydreamed them in that scenario but in actuality, they can’t do anything other than ballroom dancing. If push comes to shove they just bust out Noctis’ two dances that he did in the Chocobo Festival.

Who would try to do something artsy for their partner and just before they were going to throw it out because they thought it sucked, their partner comes in and loves the art piece?

This was actually hard to decide because Jae and Prompto are both artists in their own right, but it would be Prompto. He’d try and paint one of his many pictures and end up not liking it, but Jae would feel the complete opposite.

Omg you didn’t like it? It’s been awhile since I read it and I’m kinda fuzzy on the plot but what did you think?

lazlo was just, an impossibly boring character. he started off great and interesting, but i almost feel as if the plot would’ve been better served if he had to find the city himself. the fact that this impossible dream was just given to him with no real struggle, besides him just being obsessed, seemed weird. and once he’s there in the city it seems like he’s barely even there anyway. dude just lays there and has dreams with a godspawn, and they fall in love, obviously.

i don’t know, it fell flat. the world was cool, and i wanted to learn more about pre-lazlo Weep world, but instead i just got a boring dude who only changed because he was magically not just your average human! who would’ve thought!
