Alright not to like liveblog my breakdown on main but yesterday was a really bad day after a really bad, like, 4 months, and I've hit a bit of a breaking point and one of the only things in my life that can give is running @mdzsartreblogs , @tgcfartreblogs , @svsssartreblogs , @erhaartreblogs , @tykartreblogs , and @cnovelartreblogs , so that is what has to give. It's been a 99-out-of-100 days thankless job. A small number of people do say thank you and yall I appreciate you so much (HUGE shout-out to the artist I met at Flamecon who gifted me a zine when I said I ran these blogs, @bonesblubs you rock) but I have never done an act of fandom labor simultaneously this labor intensive yet this invisible before and, uh. It sucks. I spend an hour or more a day on this every day, if it's under 2k hours since I started the first of these in September 2020 I'd be shocked. And I do it because I love it but doing it means I don't have time or energy to do other things I love. And I really don't want to just quit, but I can't keep this up.

In a last-ditch effort to try not to just give up, I'm making the following changes:

1. Only watching one tag per fandom for the MXTX fandoms. I am going to check *only* #tgcf, #svsss, and #mdzs. Artwork posted to any other tag, I will not see unless a mutual reblogs it.

2. Reduced tagging (even more). I'm only going to tag characters and maybe overarching au type (eg, "modern au," "fantasy au"). I'll no longer tag creatures. I will continue to tag the same common trigger warnings I already tag.

3. If a work's appearance doesn't make it obvious what it is AND the tags aren't clear, I'm not going to reblog. I can't keep spending 5 minutes or more trying to figure out what I'm even looking at, scared that if I guess wrong the artist will get mad at me for mistagging their work. If I do reblog, I'll tag only the artist name and/or whatever else I can identify for sure.

4. I am no longer going to follow #link click. The fandom is just too big. I've started dreading checking it. If I was more into it and less busy I would make another spin off just for it but neither of those is true. (The art is so good, I hate to do this, but. If you love link click, highly recommend the main tag, lots of great stuff there.)

5. I will no longer tag any non-cnovel content in the art/post. Like, if someone draws, idek, Xie Lian and Marinette from Ladybug, I'm not gonna put any tags for Marinette, just for Xie Lian.

6. Basically if I run into something hard to tag or confusing or unclear, my new policy is I'm not gonna fricken bother.

I think those are everything but idefk, I cried for 3 hours last night and got 4 hours of sleep so I'm mostly fueled by exhaustion and desperation right now and my memory is even more fried than usual.

How artists can help. This is obviously all optional. You do you. But since some people might want to know what would make my life easier, I'm sharing. I'm not claiming I feel entitled to dictate how people fandom or anything like that.

1. Put the tags for the character(s) and ship(s) early in the tag list.

2. If you make art for a fandom that isn't one of the big ones (right now the only big danmei fandoms on tumblr as far as I can tell are the MXTX fandoms and maybe 2ha) I am begging you to use my tracked tag #cnovelartreblogs

3. Do mdzs art? Tag #mdzs. Do tgcf art? Tag #tgcf. Do svsss art? Tag #svsss.

4. Not only artists, but everyone, *please* stop tagging fandoms not discussed and/or depicted in your post. It's gotten to be stupid common for people to blanket the danmei fandom tags with posts only about one fandon (like, svsss-only works also being tagged mdzs and tgcf and 2ha for some damn reason). This isn't about just my sideblogs tbh this is just fandom etiquette that seems to have been forgotten or never learned by many. Tagging unrelated fandoms isn't "reach," it's annoying. People go into the #mdzs tag to see mdzs, not whatever not-mdzs stuff people have decided to tag for ~reach~, and seeing the same post in 8 tags, none of which it's related to, is so damn irritating, and makes scrolling the tags looking for content that IS relevant take that much longer. Knock it off.

Okay. I think that's as much as I'm prepared to meltdown where everyone can see. Thanks in advance everyone for your understanding, and apologies to everyone about to see this 8 times as I reblog it to each sideblog.

I like your Viltrumite OC and her dynamic with Conquest. They remind me of that meme where a cute girl ordered a beer and a tough guy ordered a sweet drink but the waiter gets their drinks mixed up so they have to switch them back.

I'm pretty sure you mean Yuki, right? Cuz the only time I've drawn Mercy (my only Viltrumite OC) with Conquest was when they were beating the shit outta each other, lol. I wondered why you assumed Yuki was Viltrumite, until I looked back at that drawing of her with Conquest and realized the overlay I put on top of it made her outfit very grey-and-white. Oops! She's not a Viltrumite! She's human, born and raised on Earth. Yuki is one of those OCs where I put her into every AU and every fandom I can feasibly stick her into, lol, so if you look at my Yuki tag then you'll see a loooot of different variations of her. She's usually a good person in every world bc "sunshine and optimism" is like the core of her character in every fandom, but in Invincible I decided I wanted her to be more neutral/self serving instead (: I've got Mercy to be the good OC who wants to protect people, now Yuki gets to be mischievous and work with the bad guys because they're fun company

She's my OC where I just decided that I can do whatever tf I want, so she's an OP mary sue that wins every fight and everyone fears/respects her and all that. Probably the main reason I don't post about her a lot, I know stuff like that isn't always that well received on tumblr. But I don't care that much, it's my art blog and I get to post my super self indulgent OC doodles if I want to..

Her basic lore in the Invincible-verse is that she's immortal and has been around for a few centuries (I haven't decided exactly how long, just at least 300 years or so). She can't come back from the dead like The Immortal can, she just has a healing factor so strong that it's incredibly difficult to do enough damage to actually kill her before she's already healed from it. She can teleport, and mainly uses her dual swords to fight with. I justify her being OP as hell with the fact that she basically doesn't interact with the main plotline, like, at all. She interacts with the characters, but she doesn't really get herself involved with what's going on in the world. She's just goofin off in the background

She basically just pops up out of nowhere, messes around with people, says some cryptic shit that nobody understands at the time but will look back on later and go "ohhh", and then disappears again. Silly jester of a woman that doesn't want to work for any organization because she has no respect for the law or governments, so she's willing to break the rules to do what she wants to do. Sometimes she works with criminals, sometimes she allies with the GDA, but most of the time she's considered an eccentric but unknowable entity.

I just really like the idea of her scaring the shit out of people by popping up behind them at random. The Guardians tell her to get out of their base in Utah but she's like "wait I want one of those donuts" and they just can't catch her. They stopped trying to kick her out years ago. She's kicking her legs up on Cecil's office desk and he just sucks it up bc he wants her help on a mission or something. Silly things like that (:

I like the idea of her hanging out with Conquest, because they're both very lonely people. Yuki, like Immortal, decided a long time ago to not get too close to other people because they both know they're going to outlive them all. So she has a very friendly and approachable personality, sure, but she keeps an emotional distance from everyone. Kinda pissing people off by always cracking jokes and never being able to have a serious conversation about anything. I think her and Conquest would have met before he came to Earth, idk how, I have yet to decide on that other than the fact that Yuki proooobably has gone to other planets before (somehow). I just want him to show up on Earth in season 3 to do his job and he sees her again and goes "what the hell. how are you here" and shes like "huh? this is my planet? what are you doing here?" spider-man pointing meme style

she's really just a daydream-only OC in her Invincible AU because I don't have any intentions of making set lore for her, I just do whatever is fun in the moment. and right now what's most fun is her pestering Conquest but he thinks it's funny and they both get some companionship for a little while

I hope I can ask you this because I don't want to ask in the tags, I'm scared 🥹 but I've seen a lot of discourse about why tommy isn't good for buck, he's cold, the relationship is toxic etc and I was wondering why people think that? Is there anything specific that started it?

And i am warning you this is gonna be long because I feel a constant need to go really in depth in my thoughts

Okay so idk how I’m gonna break this down but maybe I’ll do it in like main points?

Also if you’re new here whenever I use bullet points I’m just doing it cos I find it easier to chunk up my thoughts not cos I’m being curt or anything with you

1. The chimney and hen begins episodes

He wasnt just passive in the episodes and letting Gerard get away with his racist and misogynistic behaviour he ACTIVELY participated in it

This includes:

• Asking if they forgot to tip the delivery guy WHILE THEY WERE EATING CHINESE FOOD when chimney first comes up despite the fact that 1. Chimney had a big ass lafd bag 2. They were probably already told a probie would be coming 3. Probably would’ve seen the actual delivery guy 4. I would bet my absolute life that question would not have been asked if buck or bobby had walked up those stairs this wasn’t an innocent comment it WAS RACIST intentionally like the entire point of the episode was to show how bad they had it

• the New York bitchiness comment

• throwing his tools down along for hen to clean up

• going out of his way to treat them like outcasts and hating chimney before he even knew him despite chimneys efforts

• the way each of them had to “earn his respect” in some way before he acted like a normal coworker to them and this was never in the typical ‘oh it’s a new person’ type of way it always had to do with their race or in hen’s case her gender too

A defence I see a lot for this is “oh he was closeted” and honestly to me that is such bullshit because 1. Eli was perfectly capable of not participating in the racism and taking chimney under his wing without getting any shit for it and chimney is quite literally a Korean man (something he literally can’t hide) and he had just got his head above water with Gerard’s racism when hen came and he STILL was a friend to her 2. Again tommy wasn’t passive in it and just letting Gerrard be racist (which would’ve been one thing) no he actively participated in it to be part of the boys club 3. Let’s say that somehow not being a dick would’ve meant that that was a threat to the closet he was in- that is still in my opinion a fucked up sense of preservation if you spare yourself the possibility of bigotry (despite having inherent social capital by being a white man in that job) by inflicting others to bigotry

Now when Tommy was first reintroduced I was like keeping an open mind and saying okay it’s been a lot of time and maybe he has genuinely made amends because I do believe in redemption but imo they have made no attempt to show us that and had him honestly put more of the blame on Gerrard for his behaviour or the writers flat out avoiding mentioning it to retcon tommy a little and hope we forget

Another defence I see is “oh chimney and hen became friends with him so they must’ve forgave him”, hen went no contact the moment he left (something the writers went out of their way to include that line) and chimney didn’t even invite him to his wedding which was quite big after the Buckley parents got involved so it’s not like it was cos it was such a small and intimate wedding and he only called him as far as we know in those years when he needed a favor, which all means that most likely they had kinda just put it behind them and kept up a coworker relationship with him, but no actual friendship or actual forgiveness or redemption had taken place

Oh wow all that was just point one and I can probably talk more on it but I’ll just leave it with saying that Lou’s comments about it being teasing or how Tommy genuinely didn’t know hen or chimney were capable etc just makes for a worse case than saying it’s cos of being in the closet (and that is genuinely a large part of why idk much abt Lou but those comments are enough to make me hate him) and I’ll also say that poc (myself included in that) have these situations so often- situations even as specific as gay men being racist to them to fit in - and we understand the nuance and shit to it but we also understand on a deep level how it feels to be on the other side of that

And getting toxic bt fans try to come up with ways to downplay or minimise racism honestly pisses me off so much cos believe you me we have heard every excuse and downplay under the sun and I for one am sick and tired of it

2. Why he’s viewed as cold and his jokes

• literally from the small parts we saw of him and Eddie hanging out we have seen the man is in fact capable of joking and being light and having fun but around buck in particular he’s like 🧍‍♂️😐 and the occasional 🙂 like it just feels very stiff and just plain in a way

• his humour consistently falls flat and feels passive aggressive more than anything like blunt or sardonic humour DOES work like I personally love it but it’s not being written OR executed right

A. It’s always in response to genuine moments or questions such as buck talking abt the award or the daddy kink joke or henren questioning him

B. It’s the the majority of what we see from him, there is not enough balance for it

C. Lack of rapport, when friends or couples make jokes that can come off the wrong way if said to anyone else it’s cos of the rapport built already, this rapport is not established with the characters OR with the audience for these jokes to come off right

D. I gotta say this one too but the execution just isn’t right from writing to acting, it’s the same reason sardonic humour lines from Sandra oh as Cristina Yang or hugh Laurie as house still lets you like the characters and find them funny but Tommys lines come off as annoying to a lot of people

3. I think fandom discourse probably has something to do with it but not in the way you think

I’m not saying like oh ppl who ship buddie just hate him cos of the ship no I’m saying that like what takes him from an annoying disliked character to a hated character is most likely the fact that his role stirred so much drama and caused so much damage to how the fandom used to be that its turned the dial up

4. A lot of his development, lore or redeemable factors or cute things are just not canon

This may be blunt and I am sorry for that but I think his character has been blown up to such a degree that it’s genuinely shocking

Like I look at posts or get sent hate and I’m like where did any of this happen this is just not canon this is just not a show like at times I’m genuinely convinced it’s a social experiment where different ppl saw a different show like some spiderman multiverse situation

Listen I’m all for headcanons genuinely like if you wanna take extra number three and make a whole backstory and lore and cute stuff abt her I’m all for it but it’s when it’s said as if it’s fact or canon that I’m like hold up a second rewind

I think this is kinda a result of Lou’s cameos (which honestly deserves its own post but you asked why the tommy hate so imma stay on topic) and also this like need to defend the character but not having much material to work with

Like if we look at canon we can literally break down the entirety of Tommys appearances this far in the show and what we learn about him:

• chimney begins- he makes a racist comment and he tries to suck up to Gerard, there is a little hint abt his gayness with the gf comment, Eli says to chimney that’s just how they are and tries to reason it could be fear of losing friends but we see tommy having friends in the firehouse while eli says this, chimney tries to make friends with him and tommy makes no attempt to get to know him and says he’d hate him anyways, chimney saves Tommys life thus earning his respect

• hen begins- she’s met with the same racism chimney is but also met with misogyny (and homophobia but that’s not relevant to the tommy of it all), we find out chimney is still isolated from the rest despite having earnt that respect, chimney befriends hen and again tommy still doesn’t try anything like that until hen proves herself and earns his respect, ppl reported Gerard but it’s never actually stated tommy was one of those ppl so again that’s not canon that’s speculated

• bobby begins- chimney and hen both seem to be like coworker friends with tommy and Sal, Sal throws hissy fit bobby “fires” him tommy says it’s an overreaction bobby reveals it was a transfer, they all seem to make nice, tommy leaves to 217

• chimney calls tommy for help and tommy helps

• we see nothing from tommy,then cruise ship he helps the team but also in this we find out hen cut off all contact since he left

• buck takes tour of harbour, Eddie and tommy have a friendship and we find out some of Tommys interests and that he was in the army, basketball scene and the subsequent apology and kiss

• dinner date, Tommy explains how he was in the closet, Buck has his little awkward moment (which will be elaborated on in my next point) , Tommy says nothing abt it till the Uber arrives and he leaves buck

• buck reaches out and apologises and asks for a second chance inviting tommy to the madney wedding

• bachelor party and the issue of the lack of costume and not just taking the day off for neither wedding nor bachelor party (which you can reason is reasonable but also I feel like this deserves its point for the narrative choices)

• tommy shows up straight outta work they kiss buck has the soot coming out award ceremony - buck being happy abt the reward to which tommy sardonically says enjoy it while it lasts enter bigoted cunt gerard then chimney comes and insults gerard and they walk away

• we don’t see tommy again till the dinner date after Bobby nearly died and when buck tries to explain Bobbys significance to his life tommy throws the your dad is still alive which is just honestly one of his worst moments imo and I made a whole post abt it but can’t find it and then we all know the rest of that convo and I could make a bullet point for it but actually I made a whole post before so I’ll link it: here

Like all this comes down to what maybe like 30 mins screentime? If that?

5. The leaving buck on their first date

The defences people use for this are:

• buck was trying to shove him back in the closet

• buck was obviously not ready

• people angry abt this are just babying buck like he can find his own way home it’s not that big of a deal

• buck was at fault there and tommy would’ve been justified in being angry and not giving him a second chance

And honestly every last one of these are bullshit imo and lemme go point by point

• buck panicked, I don’t think that what buck was feeling in that moment can be properly described because unless you’re a queer person and you’ve experienced that like bone deep panic that like brain overload then you won’t get it

Like one it’s his first queer date

Two he doesn’t even understand his own sexuality atp

Three his closest friend just walked in in a situation that’s already putting him on edge

So he’s not only panicking he’s not understanding why he’s panicking he’s trying to make excuses eventhough part of him knows he doesn’t need one but also he doesn’t even understand this side of himself yet so he doesn’t want to have to potentially explain it

Like it’s a million things and a million emotions and no one can claim they would behave rationally or appropriately in that situation and if you say that you would you’re lying simple as that

Also then we find out that Eddie thought tommy was straight anyways

• the reason I love the buddie coming out scene is because of Eddie’s “and what do you think” line because it’s not up to tommy or anyone else whether a person is “ready” enough in their queerness to date. Full stop.

Also tommy knew it was Buck’s first date with a man and was still down so why is he using that as some sort of out

•it’s not about babying buck and it’s not about him finding his own way home it’s the fact that Tommy could’ve done it with much more grace and he could’ve been a lot nicer with it but he wasn’t, and this is again bucks first date with a man even if it doesn’t end with a second date it should at the very least not end up with him feeling like a screw up on the side of the road

• to the ppl who say that- kindly shut up cos again see the first point but also I wanna point out that somehow the ppl saying this are also the same ones saying that Tommy was justified to be RACIST for a prolonged period of time due to being in the closet yet Buck what? Panicking for a few seconds and being a little awkward? is somehow this giant inexcusable thing

5. The narrative choices with him have been reasonably clear and tbh if they had been made with a woman it would not be up for debate:

• tommy leaves buck on their first date then he comes back and gives buck a chance- we as a fandom have been unanimous in saying for years that Buck’s endgame would be the one that doesn’t leave him cos this pattern has been something we saw over and over with him

• tommy not dressing up- again you can rationalise it but it’s a narrative choice and it’s glaring when contrasted with Eddie suggesting the duo costume

And if we had this scene with Taylor so many ppl would be saying that it’s once again showing that her and Buck’s personalities don’t align

• him being on standby for the wedding and bachelor party- again you can say oh buck invited him last minute or oh he couldn’t taken the day off (which lbr he could’ve he’s not the only firefighter pilot in la) - but again narrative choice

If it was Taylor everyone would’ve been like SEE? Again they’re showing the audience that her work is this looming presence in their relationship

Hi hi!! It's unfair of me to ask you to actually write the full essay on the rwrb red room kiss scene, but I saw your tags and am very interested in at least what the main thesis would be, if you feel like sharing!! No worries if not 😊 Have a good night/day/whatever time it is where you are!

The last few weeks have been, well. They've Been™ and I'm going to use this wonderful ask to dust off my overthinking tag and write a meta post on this movie, these boys, and then hope more than three people care what I have to say.

The Red Room kiss scene is Iconic™ and Important™ and in this essay I (really) will discuss agency, framing, and why it always had to be Alex to be the one to make the move.

While book!Alex takes book!Henry to the Red Room, here he's waiting. Bundle of nervous energy. He doesn't know what to do with himself, how to hold himself, how to present himself when Henry turns up. He's backlit in this (which is a theatre technique, I see you Matthew) but it also adds to the drama and tension of the scene.

We jump cut between Alex trying to find... something. Here he is realising his shirt has come slightly undone and he wants to try and be somewhat presentable. At least for the moment. But it speaks to Alex's physicality in this scene because he is shifting and moving so much that his clothing is shifting. There's also an interpretation that this suit represents the formality of the situation - the Prime Minister's dinner, at which he (the First Son) and the boy he wants to kiss (the actual Prinec) are supposed to be front and centre and the picture of formality.

He's coming undone in this moment because he's the First Son and he's waiting for the Prince, but he's also Alex and he's waiting for Henry.

Ah, yes. The casual lean against the wall. Fancy seeing you here, your Royal Highness, what do you think of the menu? But there's grounding here too. When you're spiralling focusing on a physical point of contact between you and and something can help ground you.

It's also a defensive stance in a way. You shall not pass, I'm not moving. Alex is claiming space and territory and he's controlling it.

"How dare you fucking kiss me, run away, ghost me, then walk into the White House like nothing changed." This is closed off, defensive, protective - probably why it's the quickest of the poses to be dismissed. He's got his back against the wall like he's scared or ready to come out fighting. And, in a way, both of those are true.

Book!Alex is mid-crisis on his bisexuality and while he logically knows he is very much into Henry, he's not gotten to the point of turning theory into reality.

Movie!Alex is more chill about being into guys, but this attraction to Henry is confusing him. He hates the guy. He wants to punch him in the mouth. With his mouth.

(What? That's literally book canon: and if he weren’t already hell-bent on destroying Henry’s infuriating idiot face with his mouth right now, he would consider doing it with his fist.)

Casual lean against the table, less staged and jarring than the extended arm against the wall.

But then Henry walks in and Alex stands to attention and he is... rapt. He is calm and composed and he is focused. We're back to the back-lit position which helps frame him with a near-halo effect.

And you can see that he is relaxed. There's a slight drop in the jaw, his shoulders are sloped and rounded. Because none on what he was trying to convey before matters. Henry is here.

"Look" he starts with - he's expecting a fight. He's expecting Alex to go off on one for the kiss, for the liberty taken. Even if Alex is willing to forget that it ever happened, take Henry's secret to the grave, Henry gets one thing right in this.

"my behaviour was appalling"

Because it was. Look, Hen, I love you and I'm with Alex in the feeling that I will go to war for you to see you happy and safe. But you did kinda kiss him without consent (harsh reading) and you did ghost him without apology (soft reading) and for a boy raised in the Royal Household that... well... it's pretty much top items on the Very Bad Behaviour list. He did not act with decorum or dignity, he did not act in the way that his status and position demands.

(That's OK, Hen. Because the boy under the linden tree wasn't the Prince. It's OK to not be him, and Alex is going to spend the rest of his life loudly loving the man, not the prince.)

"Shut up, stop talking." // “Shut up, shut all the way up, oh my God,” Alex hisses

Because even though both versions of Alex said he wanted to talk to Henry, in the moment that's the last thing he wants to do. And actions speak louder than words, right?

Why it had to be Alex

Henry needed to make the first move, that New Year's kiss, because there needed to be something to make Alex realise that this thing he's feeling is very much reciprocated, and that Henry wants it too. If Alex had kissed Henry for the first time on New Year's Eve/Day then it would have been too much of a leap. Alex, at whatever stage of his bisexual journey, has no clear idea of Henry's orientation at that party. It's only with retrospective viewing that he realises that Henry was low-key flirting, and that the sharing of these deeply personal moments wasn't just a "two bros in a hot tub" thing.

So Henry had to kiss Alex first but then he had to run because there was no way that the mostly-closeted, private Prince could accept that a) he fucking kissed a boy, b) said boy is the one he's been dreaming of since Rio/Melbourne, and c) the boy kinda?? kissed him back?? Henry will have been having a low-grade anxiety attack all through January (and trying to reclaim some control with the date he went on in the book).

In this moment, Alex knows all the pieces. He's played this logic game to its conclusion and he knows all the facts. 1) Henry is gay. 2) Henry is into him. 3) He's into Henry. That last fact is something Henry isn't fully aware of (or at least can't bring himself to believe it to be true) and so it has to be Alex.

He doesn't want Henry to say something that would get in the way of this, doesn't want to hear any kind of pre-prepared speech of "yeah, we're better off as friends" that always happens when the couple get too close to getting together too early in the run time. Alex is full on shutting that down, shutting Henry up, and he gives as good as he got.

And this time it's both of them. Framed between Hamilton and the books. The American political trailblazer and the literary. In the space between? There's our boys.

Alex's hand is on the wall again and he's controlling the space but Henry is very much in it. He's protective but in a different way.

In one frantic motion, Alex knocks the candelabra off the table next to them and pushes Henry onto it so he’s sitting with his back against—Alex looks up and almost breaks into deranged laughter—a portrait of Alexander Hamilton. Henry’s legs fall open readily and Alex crowds up between them, wrenching Henry’s head back into another searing kiss. They’re really moving now, wrecking each other’s suits, Henry’s lip caught between Alex’s teeth, the portrait’s frame rattling against the wall when Henry’s head drops back and bangs into it. Alex is at his throat, and he’s somewhere between angry and giddy, caught up in the space between years of sworn hate and something else he’s begun to suspect has always been there. It’s white-hot, and he feels crazy with it, lit up from the inside. Henry gives as good as he gets, hooking one knee around the back of Alex’s thigh for leverage, delicate royal sensibilities nowhere in the cut of his teeth. Alex has been learning for a while Henry isn’t what he thought, but it’s something else to feel it this close up, the quiet burn in him, the pent-up person under the perfect veneer who tries and pushes and wants. He drops a hand onto Henry’s thigh, feeling the electrical pulse there, the smooth fabric over hard muscle. He pushes up, up, and Henry’s hand slams down over his, digging his nails in.

The sensibility of the suits is on its way out, they're not the First Son and the Prince. And Alex is taking the lead.

Henry is somewhat passive in this - although he is fully engaged - but it's Alex who set this in motion. Pun intended. Alex who pushed him against the wall. Alex who pushed him up onto the table and hiked his leg up around his hip, Alex who is driving in. Because Alex needs Henry to know that third fact. The one he's worked out, the one that Henry is just catching up with. This isn't payback, it's not some prank. Alex Wants™.

There's a scene I'm writing in my current FirstPrince WiP in which Alex and Henry have a charged moment. And Henry wants to act on it but those princely sensibilities get in the way and he can't let himself be led into doing something that could be used against him. If Henry made all the moves then the accusation of him taking advantage, of the inherant imbalance that comes with status and titles and positions of power. So in the scene, and here, Alex takes the lead. There's no way anyone could accuse Henry of forcing Alex into doing this.

(Good luck getting Alex to do ANYTHING he doesn't want to.)

So Alex gives and Henry takes and he gets the memo very quickly.

Fact number three. Alex wants this too.

Then Movie!Amy walks in on them (which IMO is way funnier than Book!Amy hissing through a crack in the door) and these idiots try to act like they weren't redefining International Relations a second ago. Alex is by the painting, Henry is by the books. They've gone back to their sides and they're playing at being interested in what they find there. But they're not, it's all for show, someone who gives a passing glance at this point sees this part of them, this side of them The First Son and the Prince: the politician and the literary.

They're both backlit, they're in line even if it doesn't look like it, Alex is no longer on Henry's right, and they're both trying to act like the people that others could see them as.

But we - and they - know better. 1) Henry is gay. 2) Henry is into Alex. 3) Alex is into Henry.

4) Everyone is on the same page now.

(Also I know Casey talked about seeing the Red Room on a White House tour and so that's why they included a scene in that room in their book, but I cannot ignore the fact that red = love and passion and danger and fire [the counter to the water motif] and it's a warm colour designed to excite.)

This Kieran is in AU as to what happens if Florian doesn't lie to him about Ogerpon and whatnot! Kieran still doesn't get Ogerpon and is fine with it ( kind of, as in this made him feel inferior to having friends and will always be chosen over by other people. ) His way of thinking is that maybe he should try to be nice and kind to others so that will help him get friends as he sees Florian do this the same to others. ( The only thing Kieran thinks he's not good at is having a funny personality. He is very awkward in person. ) Blueberry Academy was hard on him as he was almost practically as ignored and students tend to forget he is the champion because of his cowardly personality. Florian took over later as champion. Okay there.

Starlight Dancing (Vash x GN!Reader)

Plot: Contains some minor spoilers for the main series. You've been spending a lot of time with Luida in her lab and Vash has felt left out because of it. To make up for it, you spend a magical evening in the biodome.

Author's Note: Another chapter of my large series made into a oneshot cause I am still proud of what I wrote so I am making in accessible to those too who don't want to read the whole thing.

Vash had avoided letting you out of his sight; he even looked for excuses like going to the biodome and taking care of the toma to keep you from getting dragged into the rabbit hole of research and experiments with Luida.

"I don't mind." You laugh as he finally confesses why he has been glued to you all evening. "I like her, and it's all so interesting. She's like a window to a different life."

You pet the neck of Vash's tomas, who is making cooing sounds by your ear.

"That's not what I meant... but now I feel guilty for dragging you away..." Vash looks at his feet, and he looks a bit pathetic, making you giggle.

"What did you mean then?" your smile clear in your voice.

"Just that I wanted you to myself," he mumbles, still looking at his feet. "I might have gotten a bit jealous... You had so much fun with her, and I only got in the way, so I wanted to have some time with you for myself..."

Your expression softens further, and it melts your heart. You feel a little bad because it's true that Vash was left out of your activities today. You step closer, leaving the tomas to nip at your shirt, and go up to him. You stand toe to toe and use your fingers to lift up his chin. He avoids your eyes at first but then locks his baby blues with your gaze.

"I'm sorry you felt left out." Your hand moves to stroke over his face. "While I was happy spending time with Luida, nothing in this world compares to you."

"You always say the sweetest things." His thumb runs down your lips onto your chin. "I'm just so happy to see you better. You scared me so much for a while, you were so sick, I thought I was going to lose you."

"I'd always come back to you, silly!" You smile wide at him.

"I'm afraid." He sighs silently, and his eyes go down again.

"Of what?" Your fingers reach into his hair and pull his forehead against yours.

"Of the future," he presses his eyes shut tight. "We don't know what the future brings and... what I have to do... I want to keep you safe. I want to keep everyone safe. No, I need to keep everyone safe. But I don't know what it will cost. What if it costs everything? What if it costs the future with you..."

"You said you could never leave me. So don't think about that. Make a promise; swear it. Swear that you'll always find your way back to me."

Vash pauses for a moment, one of his hands still touching your chin, the other resting on your hip. He takes a deep breath, his eyes still closed.

"I swear to you, my Stardust, my Love, that I will always find a way to come back to you. I will be with you. For an eternity."

"Look at me," you say softly as you release his hair. When Vash opens his eyes, he is met with yours, and he lifts his forehead. You take both of his hands, intertwining your fingers, and then press them against your heart without losing eye contact. "I promise you that I will be safe; nothing bad that happens to me is your fault, and I will always, always come back to you. No matter what, I will be with you. For an eternity."

He looks at you tenderly as you declare your promise and then presses his lips onto yours, his grip on your hand tightening.

"See? There's nothing to be afraid of now," you say as he pulls away. "I don't make promises that I don't intend to keep, and you're Vash the Stampede; you always keep your promises. So we're in the clear. Whatever it may cost, it can't cost our future."

As night fell and you and Vash are the only ones left roaming the spaceship, you go back to the biodome. In the dark, it looks a lot different than it did just a few hours ago. He holds your hand and guides you along the paths, your eyes moving between the gorgeous flowers, which you could swear are lightly glowing, and the sky above, with hundreds of thousands of distant lights shining in through the glass roof, but they are nearly outshined by the large moons, emanating their different colored hues. There are no artificial lights under the dome, and you don't need any. You see everything clearly: the flowing stream, the little cornflowers and forget-me-nots, periwinkles and lupines, and so many more species of flowers whose names you don't know. You look over the lush grass and the tall trees. Despite everything, the man holding your hand is more important; his grip, the warmth he brings into your heart.

You see Vash's free hand moving to the inside of his jacket, and he grabs something from his pocket. You hadn't noticed him carrying anything, so it fills you with curiosity. You try to peek around him, even over his shoulder, but you don't catch a glimpse of anything new.

"What have you got there?" You ask as you go closer; no longer behind him, you still don't see into his hand.

"Just be patient," he says, smiling at you. He left his glasses in his room with the shoulder guard.

"Mh!" you let out a displeased sound and try the same trick he has pulled on you a number of times: puppy dog eyes.

"You are very cute, but if anything, I won't tell you what I have here just to see more of this," he chuckles.

"You're impossible!"

He just continues his laugh and guides you to a little flat spot by a tree. He lets go of your hand and takes a few more steps before squatting down by the trunk of the tree. You are left waiting with curiosity as he places something on the ground and fiddles with it. Suddenly you hear the familiar click, and before even the music starts to play, you recognize it as Vash's little radio. He turns the knob until he is satisfied with the station's choice of music and straightens up. Vash takes off his large red coat and leaves it on the grass.

You see the moonlight dancing in his eyes as he turns towards you. His hand reaches towards you, palm up as an invitation. He closes the gap between you with a few long steps and bows to you.

"M'lady! Would you graciously allow me this dance?" His gaze is cheeky as he looks up to see your reaction.

"It would be my honor, oh handsome knight!" You smile brightly and place your hand into his.

Vash's grip tightens, and he pulls you closer, placing his hand on your waist and yours lands near his shoulder. This time, he doesn't drag you into a wide and swooping waltz where you can't hope to keep up with his enormous and exaggerated strides, leggy as he is, like every other time. Instead, he sways gently, mostly staying in place, only turning a tiny bit with each step. He moves your hand—that's in his—to his lips and gives your knuckles a kiss. He keeps in time with the music, his eyes lovingly on yours.

"I've been meaning to ask... Why do you enjoy dancing so much?" You inquire with a smile.

"It was Rem who taught me how to. She loved all those things: books, music, art, dancing. They meant a lot to her, so they do to me too." His eyes are so soft before they get a mischievous glint. "Also, most girls in the saloons like to dance; it has always been a good way to get a smooch!"

He laughs at your disapproving expression and places a kiss on your cheek. His nose traces to your ear.

"But you're the only one for me, my love!" He takes a deep breath in, still by your ear. "I have a feeling that the whole universe conspired just to cross our paths. I adore you."

He straightens up again, still swaying the both of you in time to the tunes. His hand on your waist pulls you closer, the fingers gripping you tighter.

"The feelings you wake in me, the longing and love you bring forth, I have never felt like this ever before; never have I loved like this, so deeply, so passionately." He smiles tenderly. "I will try for the rest of my days to make you happy, so if I stumble and fall and make a fool of myself... please forgive me."

"You have nothing to worry about," you laugh lightly. "You are the kindest, most selfless soul I've met, and I too am a stranger to love like this. We will both try our best; we will learn, and we most likely will fail at some point, but we will try again and do better."

He lets go of your waist, takes a step back, and twirls you around before catching you in his embrace again, his arm tighter and more around you. As you look up, you see his gaze isn't on you; instead, it is upturned, and you too look into the night sky.

"Do you see them, Rem? Aren't they wonderful?" You see his teeth bare in a wide smile. "You would have liked them, I'm sure. If only you could have met them..."

You notice a stray tear roll down from the corner of his eye, but there is no sadness in his voice—not really. It's acceptance and just a wishful thought.

"At least I have met her," you say quietly. "You carry so much of her in you; it feels like I know her. I am grateful to her. I know she would be so proud of you."

WIP Questionnaire

What’s the first part of your WIP that you created?

The characters. They existed as deviantart ocs that I used to roleplay with in chatrooms before any semblance of a story existed. This was back in high school.

If your story was a TV show, what would the theme song/intro be?

I'll give a few examples here because there's a lot of songs I think fit the vibe of the story (I have a 4-hour long playlist of "soundtrack" songs)! All of these are based on pure vibes, not necessarily lyrics. For a TV show, I think a folk revival type song like "Over Again" by Stick in the Wheel or "Cannily Cannily" by Maddy Prior and Tim Hart would be sick. If it was a short instrumental intro song, an eerie tune like "More Bones to Sort" from the OTGW soundtrack or this song would work well. To get more general Rasputina is an artist whose overall sound is something that would work great for the story. If you don't know them they're a band that makes rock music with cellos and is very weird and goth about it.

What are your favorite characters that you made? Why?

I love them all, but right now I have to admit my favorite is Tristan. It's definitely partially because he's the most developed right now, but also because he's the reason I revived the story after dropping it almost 10 years ago. I remembered him and thought he had potential and fell in love with him all over again. Coming up with ideas for his arc and his backstory got me excited for the overarching story again, and I changed him from a side character to a main character. I have a lot of fun with his personality and I relate to him a lot on a personal level.

What other pieces of media do you think your fanbase would share?

Jonathan Strange and Mr. Norrell, Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow, Over the Garden Wall, Labyrinth, possibly Interview with the Vampire? and people who grew up with things like Hocus Pocus and A Series of Unfortunate Events. Maybe fans of Neil Gaiman? It's kind of hard to say though; I have no idea how the story would be marketed because it's..pretty weird lol.

What has been your biggest struggle with your WIP?

Not sure what the biggest of them all is, but my big three I guess would be plotting, research, and actually writing. I feel like I'm hitting my head on a wall when I try to outline story beats or whatever, so I think I'll just have to fly by the seat of my pants and plot as I go. Research also feels like a hurdle I need to get past because I want to base the story itself on actual mythology and folklore, and root the "real-world" parts of the story in the real historic regency period. Right now I know enough to share fun facts in a conversation, but in reality I don't know shit. I have a lot of work to do in that regard. Actually writing has been a challenge due to a combination of annoying factors including having very little free time in my life, executive dysfunction, and being? scared? of writing? because what if it comes out bad? Which I know is silly but it blocks me from writing a lot of the time nevertheless.

Are there any animals in your story? Talk about them!

Right now I'm thinking Crispin has a pet bat named Sparrow. Crispin named the bat Sparrow because he literally thought it was a sparrow, that being the only flying creature he knew of at the time. Now he knows better, but Sparrow is still Sparrow. I haven't thought much about it, but I think Crispin's keeping of a pet is one of the things that indicates he's different from his family/species, i.e. he experiences empathy and longs for companionship. The demon Tristan summons can shapeshift, and takes the form of many different creatures throughout the story.

How do your characters travel/get around?

Considering the time period, the options are limited. There's a lot of walking in this story, but also getting from place to place by carriage or cart. There's likely to be some horseback riding as well. In terms of the supernatural, Crispin can "teleport" himself from point A to point B using magic--but not very far. I still need to figure out the specifics of that though. Tristan is greatly aided in getting around by the demon he summoned, who transforms into a flying black steed Tristan can ride on.

What part of your WIP are you working on right now?

Right now I'm bouncing around and writing snippets of scenes that come to mind/interest me most. I'm considering everything experimental at the moment, and not committing to anything actually being in the final novel. This is helping me get over my fear of writing, and I like it because sometimes I end up liking what I write more than I thought I would. I also *might* write the story in novella form first, try out some things with that, learn from it, and then expand and/or rewrite it as a full novel. Other than that I'm researching and brainstorming and drawing (which is part of my process)!

What aspects (tropes, maybe?) will you think draw your audience in?

Hmmm I think the fact it's a dark fantasy/horror story and the fact it's set in the regency period will attract people. The regency period and fantasy are both really popular right now (as far as I can tell). Also the fact that it has found family, which seems to be a popular trope. The fact it has queer characters might be appealing too. Other draws might be the Halloween aspect, and the deal with the devil trope. And if anyone likes enemies to friends and twist villains. There's also heavy use of gothic tropes and subverting them/combining them with folk horror tropes. Regency media (cough cough Jane Austen) tropes will also go under the knife of subversion.

What are your hopes for your WIP?

I hope to make it a published novel! Ideally traditionally published, but who knows if that'll happen lol. I also want the book to be illustrated, and to illustrate it myself. Besides that, I'd love to do some comics featuring the characters and maybe even short animations. (She said as if she had endless free time...)

Red Strings [Chapter Eight] To Kyoto [Satoru Gojo]

I'm sorry, Satoru. This is much harder than I thought it would be.

You ignore the comments the best you can, listening to Naoya mouth off about you to one of his younger brothers as you walk past them; an inconvenient nitwit whose name you can not remember. The former barely knows him either, but given the chance to mock you to someone, he will fake tolerance for anyone. It's the sort of brat he is.

With an uneasy breath, you round the corner of the main house and hurry down the engawa toward your father's workroom.

It just keeps getting better and better around here. 

Not only did the clan not show concern for your well-being, but some of them even chose to disregard the entire incident. Out of sight, out of mind. This is what the Arima Clan meant to them now that their leader had been locked up. One of them had escaped, Satoru had mentioned, but Naobito did not care to listen. 

That was yesterday, after you had returned, and today, your father wants something of you. 

At his door, you hesitantly knock. He invites you in moments later, and as you walk in, you notice two bowls of steamed rice, miso soup, and a plate of salt-grilled fish sitting on his desk.

"Sit," he orders, motioning to the area in front of him. "Have some breakfast." 

You consider turning him down, you have plans for the morning, but given the circumstances of your plans, you decide it would be best to eat something first.

"Were these extras?" You ask in curiosity, sitting down. 

Your father grunts in response. If not, he could have at least called for you a drink. You sigh and begin to eat. As nice as this is, it is a bit strange. You feel only resentment toward your father at the moment, but you are curious as to what is going through his mind at this moment. 

Years ago, you would have looked forward to this moment. 

With a confident air, you swallow the bit in your mouth, then smile.

"I can't stay too long, but I appreciate this."

Your father raises a curious brow but says nothing. He lifts a chunk of fish to his mouth and takes a bite, watching you. It's honestly unnerving and the longer you sit, the more awkward it feels. The silence is deafening.

Sitting down your chopsticks, you sigh. 

"I am meeting with Satoru soon. I know that you did not ask me to join you because you wanted the company, so I must insist that you tell me what it is you want." 

Your father narrows his eyes in irritation.

"Do not think, child, that because your soulmate is gifted with cursed energy you can disrespect me or the Zen'in. Satoru Gojo is a pest." 

"And unlike you or the Zen'in, he has not turned his back on me," you snap, opting not to remind him that he allowed you to be abducted. "But that is just how it is, isn't it? The Zen'in are incapable of morals or love. It's power and nothing more." 

Warm tears blur your eyes, but you blink them away. It hurts to admit this about your family, but it's true. Your father used to know love; he left the clan for your mother but upon the awakening of your Innate Technique, he had thrown her away for power. It scares you because you fear the hold it has on you too. Are you capable of turning so wicked?  

Ignoring the tightness in your throat and the jitteriness of your body, you stand from the table. 

"Please…do not waste your voice if you brought me here to talk about Satoru. I don't want to hear it."

You do not want to deal with him anymore, so you turn to leave, but his voice interrupts you. 

"Be grateful, brat, that Naobito-san is turning a blind eye to whatever it is that you are doing with that pest. His generosity will not last forever."

You tighten your jaw and toss him a heated look over your shoulder. Is he so cruel? You are not a puppet, you should be allowed to live your life as you want. 

"You can share my thanks when you grovel at his feet later," you remark sharply. 

Where did this come from? A weight feels like it's been lifted from your shoulders; you feel like a human again. A wide grin pulls at the corner of your lips and before your father can scold you further, you leave the room, hurrying to the front gate. 

The cool breeze pulls at your hair and clothes as you venture further away from the compound. It's like the air is cleaner and more breathable. At the closest bus stop, you sit on the bench, resting for a moment. The short bout of defiance you displayed had your heart pounding. 

I can't wait to tell Satoru. 

Closing your eyes for a brief moment, you do not notice someone walking up on you until they are behind you. The heat of their breath on your ear makes you shiver, and as your name leaves their mouth in a sing-song manner, you leap up in fright, turning to face Gojo. He laughs in response. 

"That wasn't funny," you argue. 

"You should see it from my side," he retorts with a grin. 

Tossing him a heated glare, you finally notice that he isn't dressed in his uniform. He's wearing torn jeans and a black t-shirt with the front tucked in. On his back, you notice a guitar case, but you opt not to ask why he has it. 

"I don't think I have ever seen you without your uniform on," you point out.

Gojo hums and slides his sunglasses down his nose. 

"I know, you like it."

Heat spreads across your face. You do like it, but damn. Does he have to call you out on it? 

"I mean…you do look handsome."

Gojo lifts his hands to his face. 

"You're gonna make me blush."

You snort in response. He's so full of himself. Remembering the morning you have had, you narrow your eyes. 

"Handsome or not, this whole play nice crap you want me to do is a lot harder than you might expect. The Zen'in Clan is so hard to tolerate. I don't know how much more I can take."

"But you are doing so well," Gojo argues. He walks around the bench and joins your side. "Look on the bright side…you get to spend the morning with me." 

He is right about that. You sigh and retake your seat on the bench. 

"Training right?" 

Gojo agrees with a hum. 

"We're going to Kyoto for that."

Kyoto? You don't understand. Why does it matter where you train? So long as non-sorcerers see then it should be fine to train in Tokyo. There is no reason to travel to another district. 

"Why are we going to Kyoto?"

Gojo grins and presses a finger to his lips.

 

"It's a secret. Wait and see." 

You have a bad feeling about this. 

For the next 2 hours, almost 3, you and Gojo ride from Tokyo to Kyoto via the metro. When you at last arrive, he takes you to a gorgeous park near the river with an open field to the right; nestled between them is a narrow walkway with a park bench sitting by its side. 

And on the bench rests a woman with blue-tinted silver hair pulled in a high ponytail. Her sharp dark brown eyes turn to you, glancing you over as you approach. Who is she?

"Mei-san! It's good to–"

Before Gojo can finish, the woman lifts a finger and opens her phone. A grin pulls at her painted lips and she closes the phone. 

"I was checking," she states. "It came through as you said." 

"I told you I was good for it," Gojo whines. 

You raise a brow, not sure what they are talking about. The woman stands and faces the two of you. 

"Are you not going to introduce us, Gojo?"

The said man grins. 

"Is that needed? You already know who she is Mei Mei." 

She does? You widen your eyes, glancing between them. 

Mei Mei laughs. 

"When you hired me to train her, I looked up her information. She is a Zen'in but has no combat training. I am going to have my work cut out for me with this one…but as long as you pay my fee, you have nothing to worry about."

This is just great. Your bad feeling doesn't seem so ridiculous now.

"I'll be over here if you need me," Mei Mei states, pointing a finger toward the open field. "Take your time." 

As she saunters away, you glance at Gojo in concern. 

"I thought you were going to train me."

"I can't help you much on this part," Gojo mentions. "I was given a mission by the school and I won't be around for a few days."

You hum, earning a laugh from Gojo. 

"Don't look so sad. I'll take you out for lunch when I get back if Mei-san doesn't drain my bank account before then."

"I'll hold you to that," you agree with a grin. 

Taking an uneasy breath, you glance toward Mei Mei, who is leaning down unlocking a large case. 

"What exactly am I doing in terms of training?" 

"There are two simple tasks that I want you to work on while I'm gone," Gojo explains as raises two fingers. "The first is to learn how to use that cursed tool that I gave to you. It's going to be your main source of offense and defense. Mei-san can help you there. The last has two conditions. I want you to work on creating more manifestations as well as reinforcing them."

You frown, not sure it's possible.

But that's not true, is it?

Your cousin Jinichi can conjure giant fists with cursed energy. Each construct of his is unbelievably strong as if they are a part of his body. 

You had learned recently that your Innate Technique was not as useless as you had thought. The dead are not the only ones it works on. 

"I think I can do it," you utter. "My 'Yokai' technique is a reinforced construct with the ability to share a person's final memories with me. It eats both the living and the dead, so long as there is cursed energy present. If I work on my output and imbue more into them I should be able to make them stronger."

"That's my girl," Gojo praises. 

Heat spreads across your face, but you avert your eyes to avoid looking directly at him. He certainly has a way of making you feel like a hot mess.

With a sigh, you nod.

"I'm ready to start."

Gojo motions toward Mei Mei and hesitantly you walk into the field, standing across from her. She grins and raises two fingers in front of her.

"Emerge from the darkness, blacker than darkness. Purify that which is impure."

Before your eyes, a gob of darkness appears in the sky and ebbs down around the three of you. Glancing over at Gojo, he grins and removes the guitar case from his back.

"It's just a curtain. No worries unless you are a cursed spirit."

He sits the case down on the grass and unzips it, removing the cursed tool he took from Yuudai. You assume he expects you to tote it around like this when you are in front of non-sorcerers. It is a clever ruse.

Taking 'Squall' from him, you extend the blade, holding the shaft tight in your hands. Gojo clears his throat and points to something over your shoulder. You turn and notice Mei Mei is holding a giant battle ax. A feeling of dread consumes you. 

"Do you expect me to be able to keep up?"

"I expect you to block," Mei Mei answers.

She spins the handle and then rushes at you, swinging the blade at your head. Is she out of her mind? You do the only thing you can and jump to the ground.

"Block or die," Mei Mei orders.

She raises the ax above her head and brings it down toward you, however, you roll to the side and dodge it. The aftershock tosses your hair and showers you in soil, but you manage to get back onto your feet before she strikes at you again. 

Gojo is no help. He stands to the side, cheering you on despite the fact Mei Mei is trying to kill you. Shooting him a glare, you turn your eyes to the woman to see her swing the blade at your side. Out of fear, you bring the scythe up vertically beside your body to block. It works, however, the strength she puts into her swing knocks you off your feet and onto the ground.

For a moment, the air leaves your body and once you can breathe again, you cough in protest. 

Mei Mei stands above you and grins. 

"That was a good reaction. Keep it up."

You groan. This woman is going to kill you. 

For an hour, you do your best to block Mei Mei's swings. A few you can, however, you always end up on your ass afterward. It's obvious she is strong; you can barely keep up with her.

When at last she calls for a break, you are happy to accept. You remain on your back, looking up at the masked sky since the curtain is still up. A shadow covers you and you turn your eyes to Gojo who is hovering over you with a smile. 

"Baby steps…but you're showing some progress," he states.

You glare at him.

"Why can't you train me?"

"If you think I'm bad, there is no way you would survive Limitless," Mei Mei mentions. 

You raise a curious brow.

"What is Limitless?"

"It's one of my inherited techniques," Gojo explains. "It brings the concept of infinity into reality." 

You have never heard of an ability like this before. It sounds godlike. 

"It's quite interesting," Mei Mei mentions. 

You watch in horror as she swings at Gojo with her ax, but before it hits, the blade stops inches from him. 

"There is no way that's possible," you utter in disbelief.

You have seen sorcerers who are fast enough to dodge strikes and those strong enough to block them, but never someone who could not be hit.

Gojo grins and raises his arms out. 

"Come on. I know you want to."

Heat spreads to your face, but you get up onto your feet, approaching him. Raising your hand hesitantly, you make contact with something in front of him. 

"That's an aspect of Limitless," Gojo declares. "The ability to bend space around a designated area at will. I'm not stopping your hand, just slowing it down." 

You hum. 

"Can you activate it or deactivate it whenever you want?"

The space around him gives and he walks forward, wrapping his arms around you. 

I guess this answers my question. He has been deactivating it when he touches me.

Heat spreads across your face. Why would he do this for you? Allow you to get close to him. He's untouchable, to a point. It makes sense to you now what he meant when he fought Yuudai Arima. His scythe, 'Squall' can disable the flow of cursed energy, but without his Innate Technique, he could not land a hit on Gojo. 

It's impressive. No wonder the Zen'in don't like him. 

"You are–"

Before you finish, a burning pain shoots up your arm, originating from your hand. You cry out and step away from Gojo, glancing at the soulmate mark. The pain quickly fades, however.

What? 

"That's never happened to me before," Gojo mentions. 

You widen your eyes, watching him shake his hand, the same one with the mark on it. Did he too feel the same burning sensation as you had?

"That's peculiar," Mei Mei utters with a hum. 

No kidding. You glance down at the mark on your hand to see that it doesn't look any different. Whatever caused the pain, is gone now.

"Can we call it a day?"

Gojo nods. For once, he doesn't remark, lost in his thoughts.

Hello, first of all: happy belated New Year!

Now, I would like to say that I've been obsessively reading all of your Shigaraki fics on ao3 and I always forget to leave a comment while reading them so I want to share my thanks via tumblr.

the new postmodern age - this was the very first fic of yours I read because I too was upset about the canon ending, and this fic delivered everything I could've wanted and needed and MORE. I was immensely happy to find out that you had many other works in your ao3 because I KNEW they would be every bit of great as this 💖

Love Like Ghosts - Permanently altered my brain chemistry. Kinda forgot it was a mha fic by the third chapter because the world building was SO GOOD and I was enraptured by it. I feel like you could make an actual novel out of this. Truly the best use of ghosts I've ever had the pleasure of reading. I might have pulled an all-nighter to read all of it in one sitting. I also love when you write from the other person's perspective and Haunting for Beginners will live on in my memories alongside the main fic 💖💖💖💖

Enough to Go By - I consider this canon for the sake of my own heart. I don't care what Horikoshi said about the fate of the villains, why does he think he knows so much (/jk). I wait patiently for the updates like housewife looking wistfully at her mailbox, waiting for a letter from her husband who's away at war in a foreign land.

what I can't remember now + if my heart was a house - ngl I saw the tags and for a moment I considered not clicking because I was scared for my own feelings, but I just couldn't deny myself the joy of reading more of your writing. 10/10 I cried while reading the prequel, once again patiently waiting for updates whenever you're able to provide them. I don't know if you're into musicals but I gotta say that my mind kept playing "Would You Fall in Love With Me Again" from EPIC: the musical (based on the Odyssey, very last song), specifically Penelope's last verse. To explain my comparison: Any EPIC fan will tell you that they cried like a baby while listening for the first time.

Opposites Attract - Shigaraki was NOT a character I would've ever thought of being a rom-com protagonist but I'll be damned, you changed my mind. I love a good misunderstanding trope when it makes the plot silly instead of frustrating.

Off-Script - "the opposite of a meet-cute" so true but it's still so entertaining <3

Expiation - once again, I forget these are mha characters because the AU is just THAT good <3

There's also the one-shots but I've been rambling too much I fear.

In conclusion: I love every iteration of Shigaraki that you write. Very interesting plots and settings aside, I think my favorite part of your fics is your characterization. You acknowledge the bad parts of the villains, make use of their canon backstories and traumas, but don't try to woobify them. I'm HERE for the social commentary and the things Horikoshi seemed to be building-up to but backed out at the last second. Your Midoriyas also make me very happy, like that's my GOAT right there (pointing at human rights lawyer!Midoriya).

Oh my gosh, this ASK. I'm so upset that my inbox tried to hide it from me! I've been having some serious writer's block the last two days or so, and your kind words made me feel better in an instant. I'm so sorry that it took me a while to get to it, and I'm sure I'm going to be awkward while trying to answer, but just know that the awkwardness is the result of absurd levels of enthusiasm!

I can't express how nice it was to see you address so many of the fics in your ask! I know I write a lot, and my secret fear is that everyone's getting annoyed with me. All of your compliments are things I'm going to treasure, but I'm especially thankful for what you said about Enough to Go By, what I can't remember now/if my heart was a house, and Love Like Ghosts. Those fics mean so much to me, for so many different reasons, and to hear that they also meant something to you is wonderful!

It might interest you to know that the Epic song you mentioned was mentioned by somebody else in relation to those fics, too! I was not prepared for what it was going to be like when I first listened to it and I ended up crying on my couch for a little while. Finally, thank you so much for your comments on the characterization, and on the various Midoriyas! I have a complex relationship with canon Midoriya, but ultimately I do think he has the impulse to help others and do good, and having him reject the system and become a human rights lawyer in 'what I can't remember now' was my piece of wish fulfillment.
