"I- I've been walking around since leaving you in Gavriel, holding my breath, hoping I could correct the mistake of not telling you that the feeling I was understanding but didn't quite have a word for yet- I should have told you then.
You say everything we have we owe to the Citadel. I agree. But. I think there's something inside that, that makes it feel like it is up to the discretion of a glass tower to take it all away and call it back. But of the things I know now and the things that I feel, nothing can take you from me. Can take this feeling from me.
I love you. And GOD if we die here, I'll be so fucking mad. Because I've never felt like this before. And I'm so happy to know you."
OH AABRIA CAME BACK SWINGING!

btw my url is an ironic, somewhat self-deprecating joke that i came up with when i started this blog and still didn't get the whole furry thing yet. so "hack" as in "they're not great at what they do" and "furs" as in, the thing i am doing, which is being a furry. so hackfurs means "not good at being a furry" which was probably true at the time i come up with it, but nowadays its mostly just funny/ironic
#honestly though nowadays it doesn't even really mean anything to me#hackfurs is just a proper noun/name to me now with no inherent meaning or intent behind it#same with just being called hack#like thats not a word in the dictionary anymore thats my Name

Not to DT Discourse on main, but I am Convinced that a not insignificant amt of it is coming from people who can't be assed to parse non-european/east asian based names.
#sosei plays ff14#ff14 has always been dropping Proper Nouns all over the place youre only noticing it now because they are using unfamiliar phonemes

i hate when google translate makes like. the worlds worst errors because it definitely leads me to sitting there with a japanese dictionary open and horror on my face
#twist rambles#two examples. first is when um. it was accurately saying that the iron maiden was like an “iron virgin” (bc she bleeds and has a smile on#her face. thought SURELY this wasnt it. it was). second was just now when mid battle one of the enemies hit me with a (what google told me#“eat it! sexy peeee!” and i was just flabbergasted. it was just sexy beam (one kanji off) and um. the lesson is if ur ever insane enough 2#do something like this. please keep a dictionary open to check stuff. esp when it would have to be like this aracula has a piss kink. bc#that would have been a horrible thing to have to put in the guide. but literally insane i love experiencing every horror known to man#playing this#unsanitary#ask to tag#<- bc of the tags. but sorry i needed to share its sooo scary sometimes. im used to dealing w the finicky translation on proper nouns thats#fine but this was so much like... genuinely check archive.org for dictionaries if ur doing smth like this w no knowledge of the language#♟️

I’m not sure if Chat counts as a pronoun? In my opinion Chat is a proper noun that refers to people beyond the fourth wall. Because it doesn’t work the way most pronouns work. Like-
Take the sentence “[person] said [person] know(s.)”
First person: “I said I know.”
Second person: “You said you know.”
Third person: “Kai said she knows,” “Kai said he knows,” “Kai said they know.”
Theoretical fourth person: “Chat said chat knows.” That feels more like the use of a proper noun, especially because the sentence “Chat said they know” ALSO works.
Also when you ask chat something, it’s worded like “Chat, is this real?” The question “They, is this real?” Or “You, is this real?” Makes no sense (i mean, “you, is this real?” Might work but is rude and/or feels off.) But “Kai, is this real?” DOES work.
Therefore, I believe Chat is a proper noun.

#now I do think Chat is a special proper noun#because it can be used to refer to an actual livestream chat OR a make believe one#it is distinct from ‘yall’ and stuff#but I don’t think Chat is a pronoun

murphy beds are cool except for the fact that like. I'm incapable of keeping things from accumulating on my bed. some stuff just ends up living there. it's like a very flat, very comfortable drawer for me. every time it came time to murphy the bed away I'd be left w a handful of miscellany wondering what the hell to do w it
#ohhh my god i got so sidetracked writing this#and now: behind the scenes no one asked for for a post that -also- no one asked for~.*°#oh and this post was also a tangent i was in the middle of doing smth /ELSE/#was watching a letsplay of squirrel w a gun > saw the murphy bed > thought of this#went to type miscellany > saw miscellanea as an option > wasnt sure if miscellanea was the proper word > googled#saw theyre both real words > tried to confirm whether they had different uses (it was surprisingly hard. they dont)#started thinking abt different types of nouns bc THIS IS A THING I DO OK > spent whoknowshowlong sorting my ongoing list of types of nouns#look just- listen you cant tell me 'kindness' has the same vibe as 'biologist' has the same vibe as 'spoon' THERE ARE DIFFERENCES#but afaik english doesnt have idk classifiers for that so FINE ill work it out MYSELF

Biologically no but I mean Minos is very much at fault for / played a part to a degree in the Minotaurs existence- if the man just fucking did as was asked and sacrificed the White Bull like he was supposed to do none of it would have happened.
Minotaur is not a species
The Minotaur was named that because he was the son of King Minos. Anyone with a bull head has to be named after their dad, like the Kyletaur or something.
#unrelated fact after he died King Minos became supreme judge of the underworld#but uhh yahhh#In latin it's Minostaurus- literally it's name tranlates as Bull of Minos#and I mean originally the word was a proper noun as there was only one of them (but now it often gets used as a noun for like a generic spe#also in Crete it was known as Asterion apparently#reading that did still make me chuckle I see the joke#just like sharing greek myth info

yn Happy birthday to the man, the myth, the legend Paul Grice, whose pioneering work (alongside J. L. Austin) is the reason pragmatics exists as its own subfield in linguistics. Central to Grice is the cooperative principle, conversational implicature, and his maxims (of which there are four: maxim of quality; maxim of quantity; maxim of manner; maxim of relation/relevance). Grice thought that speakers may communicate either by breaking the maxims or by obeying them, when a maxim appears to be violated, a pragmatic inference is created. This is only possible if the speaker is believed to be cooperative. An important point is that speakers—as long as they are cooperative—are generally guided by these maxims.
Happy anniversary to me and Carlos too, I guess.

yn Since it’s race weekend here in Australia, it is only right that some facts are shared about the variety of English which is spoken here, Australian English (AusE, for short). English came to Australia through convicts being transported from Britain. It eventually became a killer language, which means that it replaced the aboriginal languages which already existed in Australia—and had existed in Australia long before English made its entrance. Unlike other varieties of English (like British English and American English) there is little regional variation in AusE, but there is social variation. When talking about AusE, it is possible to differentiate between three main varieties: broad AusE, general AusE, and cultivated AusE. Some noticeable features of this variety is that it has two productive noun suffixes: -ie and -o; she may be used as a generic pronoun; and it has highly characteristic vocabulary. Regarding phonetics, AusE is non-rhotic, which means that /r/ is only pronounced in front of vowels. Another notable feature of AusE phonology is that it has HRTs (this is sometimes referred to as Australian Questioning Intonation). HRT is short for high rise terminals; this means that declarative sentences often end with a rising pitch.

yn Does the language people speak influence the way they think? If you ask Edward Sapir and Benjamin Lee Whorf, that is true. Though neither Sapir or Whorf coined the term “Sapir-Whorf hypothesis” they have come to be associated with it. The central idea of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is that the languages a person speaks determines the way people perceive and think about the world. There are three version of this hypothesis: the strong Sapir-Whorf hypothesis, which claims that the only conceptual distinctions people can make are those encoded in language because language imposes these distinctions on sense data; the restricted Sapir-Whorf hypothesis claims that some topics are such that the only conceptual distinctions are those encoded in language. This is because language imposes these distinctions on relevant sense data. The last version of the Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is the watered-down Sapir-Whorf hypothesis. This version claims that there are some topics that are influenced by language, specifically this happens for things that are habitually or stereotypically thought about, an example of this is grammatical gender. The strong Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is false; the restricted Sapir-Whorf hypothesis is unproven; the watered-down one is the only one which may be true. The answer to my question, then, suggests that languages influences the way people think in respect to scarcely perceptible cognitive biases and subtle stereotypes.

Transcript:
Alex Hirsch: The way that Craz and Xyler talk where they're like... They'll have the intelligence of like, a golden retriever or a fruit roll-up that came to life. Like I remember, those were some of the jokes that Matt drafted into the script that made it all the way to the end, like I didn't want to touch those because it was such a funny, like, their thought process.
Mike Rianda: Yeah.
Matt Chapman: Do you remember, there was one where, it may have been the one where they eventually say "Mabel's saying something right now!" or whatever, where one of them eventually said something like "[goofy] Are you thinking about the Olympics?"
Hirsch and Rianda: [laughing]
Matt Chapman: And the other was: "[goofy] I totally am!" And we found out you can't say "the Olympics"
Mike Rianda: That is like, heartbreaking, because I have thought about "are you thinking about the Olympics?" since this was on the air.
Alex Hirsch: Yeah, that's... We weren't allowed to use proper nouns in the series, so we couldn't say "superbowl" we had to say "football bowl", and a line like "[goofy] Are you thinking about the Olympics?" "I am!" Like, without the word "Olympics" it was nonsense. Like, it was already nonsense? These guys sort of remind you of an old t-shirt of a logo, like, but without being able to reference it, it was like, abridged too far. And that was often the most heartbreaking thing was getting a joke that we all busted up at, and then I get the note and I can't think of a way to save it. I'm always trying.
