So with the newest Pokemon Horizons episodes coming out last Friday there's been a lot of discussion about Roy showing the ability to feel his Lucario's aura. I'm not going to get into the discourse of whether or not Roy is an Ash clone (because I haven't been keeping up with this new anime super religiously to make an informed opinion one way or the other), but I am going to defend the writer's decision for letting Roy have this kind of connection We have to remember that in the Pokemon worldbuilding aura is something that every living creature in that world has. And even though Riolu and Lucario are like the mascots of aura there are other Pokemon with Pokedex descriptions of being able to sense aura and a multitude of Pokemon who can learn moves like aura sphere which implies a degree of aura manipulation. So if that is the case with Pokemon...it stands to reason that this would involve the human population. Again all humans in the Pokemon World have aura (to the point that I personally theorize that it's a biological necessity to exist in the Pokemon world). So just by using statistics there is going to be a number of people who probably can sense it. Again the worldbuilding already lends itself to humans having psychic powers (to the point there's even a whole trainer class that has it beyond just certain major NPCs), being able to acquire ghost powers (again to the point where there's whole trainer classes with this power beyond just the major NPCs), and people who can even commune with Pokemon. So it's stands to reason that the ability to sense aura would be something that pops up more frequently among the population than just Ash, RIley, Rye and Sir Aaron. If anything I'd argue it should be probably the most common supernatural ability because aura is something that is inherent in all living beings. Of the supernatural abilities we see in Pokemon, aura has been the least explored but I think Roy showing this gives it an opportunity actually be explored more, if the anime writers are willing to do so beyond just adding this for the cool factor.

I personally welcome the idea of seeing more characters exhibit the ability to sense if not manipulate aura so we can get more ideas of what it can and can't do. Plus you can see how people deal with their powers. Some people may try to walk the path of being an aura guardian, and some may just want to learn to control their powers if it ends up being particularly detrimental to them. We know with Caitlin and Sabrina that they struggled with their psychic powers, so perhaps something similar could happing with aura powers too. And some still may only want to hone one aspect and go about their daily lives. Considering we know aura can be transferred for healing purposes, it'd be cool for example to see a medical professional in the series who learns to control it enough to help heal others.

I just think there's a lot of potential that could be explored and I think Roy showing some ability opens the door for this exploration.

It was unjust. Rook had prayed that their paths wouldn’t cross; it was absolutely unfair how they hadn’t met in twenty years yet their grand reunion had to end up like this.

Leonard tut-tutted, “Robert, where are you going?”

In an instant sulfur-scented smoke poured from Rook’s body and he felt like he’s experiencing the worst summer of his life. His pulse kept rising, he overheated; a small portion of hell that Leonard let him taste. Smoke permeated his lungs. His mouth tasted like burnt matches and table salt, he coughed heavily. It didn’t take long until Rook collapsed but he clutched the parcel as if his life depended on it. His eyes watered. He threw a pleading look at Leonard whose visage was still unchanged even after decades; in fact he looked healthier even. “Sir.”

Their eyes locked. “Oh Robert, just hand me the parcel and you’re all free to go,” Leonard’s offer was saccharine sweet. Sickeningly sweet, so unlike his dismissive gaze. The older man issued orders with hand gestures and the tar-colored apparitions surrounding him complied, circling around Rook with such ire. The ghosts were the instruments and Leonard was the conductor, directing the beat and tempo of their onslaught. “Don’t be difficult, boy.”

The smoke had dissipated from his body but he still felt like he’s standing in front of a furnace. Trembling, he took a glance behind him. Aaron and Malik were paralyzed, a common affliction when dealing with apparitions of the dead. Amber wasn’t visible from his position right now. He didn’t realize he had coughed up blood until he wiped the wet warmth off the bottom of his chin. This was unfortunate, he thought bitterly. All things considered, it seemed like surrendering was the logical option. In theory, he could buy his allies more time.

“Take me instead,” Rook hissed through the pain, “Let them go with the parcel.” I surrender. “You were looking for me, your congregation wanted me. It would be a good trade off, yes?” Everything led to this. I was a traitor, after all.

Leonard’s chuckle was laced with scorn, “I want the parcel and you.”

What are your ideas for what Aaron and Shyren in Underswap MH? Could we also get designs for them?

I should note I don’t intend to swap every single monster encounter or background NPC in Swap MH - if I think up a neat idea for a swap I’ll definitely see where developing it goes, but I don’t wanna force it and feel like I have to swap everyone :’D

as for Aaron and Shyren, I didn’t really have anything beforehand, but between this and your other ask about Madjick and Knight Knight... actually, I think swapping Shyren and Knight Knight could be interesting? in the original game Knight Knight’s fight can affected by how many times you sung with Shyren, so it’d be cool to reverse that :0

this is entirely just ideas I’m thinking up on the spot here, but Swap MH Knight Knight could be renamed Night Night since she’s not a royal guard, and loves lullaby music despite her big scary appearance, so Chara singing once makes her spareable and continuing to sing sends her to sleep. Swap MH Shyren could be named Sir Shyren (bc she’s a siren) and uses her voice as her weapon, while UT Shyren’s agent (the body, they’re separate beings) now acts as her armour. She still loves singing and will give up fighting and sing along if Chara hums 3 times or hums Night Night’s lullaby once.

the only problem with this idea is I have no earthly clue how to design Knight Knight without her armour, but I already like this enough to say it’s canon so that’s a problem for another day I guess ᕕ(ᐛ)ᕗ

(also I guess Aaron and Madjick could be swapped alongside them? but I got nothing for them right now so don’t call that canon yet)

I get that in the manga he shows up with a captured Cresselia.

However, the way that I see Legendary pokemon- forces me to not agree with basically just about any headcanon that any character, gets to capture an actual legend. It is heavily implied that Legendaries are unique pokemon- the fact that we can capture them in game, is just a game mechanic.

Each Legendary pokemon carries an important duty in maintaining their world’s harmony, so capturing just about any mythical/legendary one will definetely affect their world (this also can be applied to my Brendan).

This is why instead- I have these three pokemon in Palmer’s team, as holograms- fake digitized versions of the real deal instead.

Besides it would definetely put Palmer in a huge and unfair advantage, compared to just about all the other NPCs.

He already is explained to be a powerful trainer on his own- likely on par with a champion, so really he doesn’t need this kind of power.

I agree on the idea that despite them achieving their goal of summoning Groudon, the whole thing was a disaster. There were no real winners out of this situation.

Tabitha most definetely doesn’t look back on the incident in a positive light. And it will be something, he won’t forget about.

I have already expressed my huge distaste for people who just slap a mental disorder on their muses and call it development(tm). So by that alone, makes me give it a hard and fat NO.

I actually see it as the turning point in Tabitha’s life. It forces him to question his views on the world they live in, effectively freeing him from the cult had embraced all those years.

I find it to be too much of a bold statement out of too little that we have from the source material.

Nothing in it, screams that Aura is meant only for good people.

This is definetely something that inspired me to portray Riley, the way I am doing.

Being an aura user simply means Riley has special abilities, it means jackshit about who he is as a person.

This is literally the trope of power- falling in the hands of wrong people.

"Let me see let me see!!" Aaron clambered onto Fabian's back. "We're all invited! ...wait we're all invited?? Who's going to protect High Tower if we all go???"

"Moron, he didn't mean the entire barracks. He only mentioned the four of us!"
