NSDEVLOG #2
okay so, I was being very dramatic first devlog so disregard most of it (except my hatred for GUI that will persist) don't have much to say this time besides that i feel kind of terrible (medically) but im still trying to get some work done, cus from, like, aug 4 til june next year I will be busy to death (senior year of uni) and ill be pleasantly surprised if i all together manage survive this stressful period WITHOUT getting worse. but knowing me, i'll still find some time to work on my projectsss and do art.
all i got 4 show rn is me plugging in some !!TEST!! walks and idles, and that actually worked without issue, Shockingly.
do note that this will be colored. the entire thing will probably be colored even tho I briefly considered the black and white/limited pallate route but Prolly Not. unless i for some reason struggle really bad with coloring things.
you may have also noticed this is a different style than what i usually draw in... i just wanted to go to a more simplistic/cartoonish route not rlly for my personal ease i just want it to look a very certain way. I'm branching out.
oh and....
Ever's here too... she's just. Busy.
PS: whenever there's animation just know it's going to look Very Amatuer. dont worry about it. what matters is that I Tried. but everything shown here is a placeholder... and thats why this whole this is going to be like... 5 dollars.

thank u guys for the feedback regarding me using my tumblr as a yapalogue for my "game dev" hurdles (and maybe one day, achievements!)
if u do not want to read rambles from me, and just want to stick around for fanart or comics, i will be using the hashtag #nsdevlog henceforth, for if you wish to block/mute it! (i'll add a reminder on each post incase this one is missed.)
i don't expect i'll actually spam too much logs frequently, it will probably just be really large bodies of text every now and then. some might contain actual image updates and some of the placeholder sprites i got going on lol.
i'm excited!

NSDEVLOG #1 (mute #nsdevlog if you wish to not see these posts.)
july 16th was the first day where I opened the game engine, plugged my unfinished assets in, and tried to do one thing.
create a test conversation between an NPC and you, the player. i spent around 5 hours on that. and it did not work!! but a day later, i tried something different, and not only did it work, but it was exceptionally easier than what i first attempted. Crazy how things usually work when you try again.
I do owe my life to the Unity plugin "Adventure Creator" i think it truly gives code illiterate people like me a chance to make narrative games (even if it will look a little ugly in my case lol)
and even though it makes everything easier and with virtually no coding so far, i still find it difficult to totally comprehend. Which is okay i can't be dumb Forever.
while working, i kept recalling segments from my script and some of the things i want to occur and just kept thinking "man, i have no idea how i'm going to do that one thing. i might forgo it." but hopefully i'll grow smarter when i reach that point.
when such hurrdles occur i usually consult the 400 page Manual for guidance, but if i'm really stuck, really really stuck, i just might consult the forums but i'd feel really embarrassed! it's like barging into Math Club and asking "hey Whas 2 + 1 ??" anywho.
right now im animating walk cycles, which is fun because i've never done that before. but its funny cus u rlly only walk around a couple of times in a few scenes, but spend the majority of the game talking to various characters. I am basically showing u what the Next (and hopefully better) game will consist of, definitely not a conversation sim. Hopefully this shorter game will help me learn to become more of a Game Dev Intellectual.
So, what is the Game about if it's not abt the Larger story of rejoice?! well! it's a short game about Ever and the Fairies' backstory, and how they got cursed. and the reason why u spend a lot of time speaking with characters is because you spend a majority of that time scamming people. With breaks in between. Fairy scam simulator. I'll talk more about it later, all u have to know is that ur scamming people out of magic. so imagine a "papers please" format but with no cool mechanics at all.
and to be real this game is going to be kind of a Bit "ugly", well, at least the GUI will be as it's definitely what ill continue to struggle with the most, but the thing that will take the longest is actually all the drawing (and animating) i need to do so I can balance the crappiness of it all out. I don't mean to be critical about my own work lol I don't expect it to be perfect but it will exist, i just love complaining whenever I fail at doing one thing, but i do hope the story and the dialogue and how everything is set up will be enough to distract you from how static some of the GUI elements are. (yes i'll keep talking about the GUI like it killed my family.)
if u liked my comics, u will like this, it's basically my comics on steroids. and movement when possible. and there will be a free demo of like, the first 10-12 mins of it, incase u decide u actually like the comics better!
i'm also taking a lot of time writing the actual script and just being overally slow about it, i'd like to think i've improved my writing overall but it's definitely one of my more weaker skills, so i'm spending extra time just trying to make it as "good" as possible and fun to read, as well as read literal books about writing and really attempt to study the subject. I'm really trying to make up for the really bad GUI! it's me and wordhippo against the world. There is one aspect i am very clearly trying to improve by exaggerating it and will be quite obvious lol! but i think that's a good thing. I know what I suck at.
okay thats kind of where i'm at right now, just testing out test scenes with placeholder sprites and unfinished animations and see if i can get things to work, before i clean up everything.
one more thing, the story as a whole is a weird Magic Coated metaphor about a malfunction i've been suffering with for over 2 years. Which does make working on this game, or anything really, infinitely more difficult. But it's honestly not the point, because it's by far the most easiest thing in my life despite all the complaing lol. but explaining this further would make me sound insane without the material to back me up with. so maybe one day i will be more clear about what this all means to me. if it didn't mean anything Grand i probably wouldn't be trying so hard.
hopefully by next time, i would have more accomplishments and the test scenes i've been working on and all it's systems work with no issues!
