I have spent the past week:
Learning about a Nutcracker movie I’ve never heard of
Watching the movie despite feeling it wouldn’t be good
Finishing the movie and having a bunch of ideas swirling in my head because I am enthralled by this thing
It’s called “The Nutcracker and the Magic Flute”. If you see the cover of the movie…whatever assumptions you make are probably correct. My brain responded by making art. There’s a bunch of small moments and concepts I liked, just not how they were put together.
Redesigned some of the characters to varying degrees.
#I’ll try to explain this more later on#But here is a drawing for now#The Nutcracker and the Magic Flute

ballets and operas are kinda funny to me from a storytelling perspective because they’re primarily a vehicle for music so often the story just feels really haphazard

Is there a concept you'd like to see for a Barbie doll that hasn't been done before or only at a small level?
Maybe a series of Barbie dolls based on opera heroines. They once did it for ballet, with the Classic Ballet Series that offered dolls of the Sugar Plum Fairy from The Nutcracker, Odette from Swan Lake, Juliet from Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet, and others. So why not opera too?
I'd like then to release at least 10 dolls. For example:
Carmen (Carmen), Violetta (La Traviata), Pamina, the Queen of the Night (The Magic Flute), Mimi, Musetta (La Bohéme) Susanna (The Marriage of Figaro), Tosca (Tosca), Cio-Cio-San (Madame Butterfly), and Rosina (The Barber of Seville)
I'd also suggest Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor) because she's so iconic, but Mattel probably wouldn't want to sell a Barbie in a bloodstained wedding gown.
It will probably never happen because the market would be so niche, but I'd buy them.

hi sasha whats the first piece of classical music you remember being obsessed with? 🎤 i think the first one that really got me was saint saëns danse macabre
HMM. many ways to answer this
i would not consider it an obsession per se But when i was a baby my parents played this like. i guess it must've been one of those "classical music for toddlers" type CDs when i would go to bed. so i have a distinct memory of going to sleep listening to the romanze of eine kleine nachtmusik. that plus the old ass late 90s magic flute pc game probably are the reasons i am Like This now lol
i also started piano lessons when i was young (5 years old) and continued uninterrupted through the beginning of high school (and then Briefly again in freshman year of college before covid happened). i remember spending a Ton of time on clementi's six sonatinas op 36, especially nos. 2 (g maj) and 6 (d maj). also scott joplin rags...i started on like simplified baby arrangements of maple leaf and the entertainer and even though i don't play piano much anymore now i still pride myself on being able to play the original full versions (scott joplin isn't Traditional(tm) Classical Music(tm) in the same vein as mozart or clementi of course but i think it's close enough also i love him.)
ummm. in 5th or 6th grade (right after i started learning oboe) my music class took a field trip to hear the local orchestra play holst's planets suite and the oboist of the group came to our school to talk about it with us and while i wouldn't say the planets ever became an Obsession piece of mine, i am of course fond of jupiter (who isn't??) and that oboist became my first private teacher and helped me get where i am today so. fond memories
Oh and i had the nutcracker suite on my 2007 ass ipod nano. yeah the one with the scroll wheel and no touch screen. i listened the fuck outta that as a kid
#sasha answers#recapitulation#ty lexi <3 <3#this answer is probably longer than you expected LOL but. look who you are talking to...

The Rat King needs some subjects!

Luckily, Victor has five that he can send on scouting missions. He'd sooner die (or send someone else to) then let anything happen to them.
Their names are:
The gold one up high is the fearless and loyal leader. Her name is Piper.
The white one is the biggest, oldest, and most stern of the lot. His name is Pope, who Martin Luther called a king of rats.
The brown one is a sweetheart by the name of Poppy, a reference to rat kings being associated with the black death, just like flowers in the masks of plague doctors.
The black one is Puck, a mischievous little scamp much like his namesake.
The blue one is the newest and smartest. Her name is Pam, a reference to Pamina, a character from Mozart's 'The Magic Flute'.
While Victor couldn't give less of a shit about the people around him beyond their usefulness or intrigue, he would kill whoever hurt his subjects.
Other General Things About this Version of Victor that I Forgot:
A potential voice cast that could be fun is Brian David Gilbert
Victor comes from either upper or upper middle class and his dad was an actor that appeared as either a villain/rival in one of Lou's movies, an antagonistic person in the musical, or they both appeared in a rendition of The Nutcracker ballet.

What instrument is most prominent in your character's theme song?
I went back and forth on this one for a long time! I think Honey's theme song would over all be very magical, whimsical, and undeniably pretty, with a lot of fun instrumentation to match. Flutes, horns, xylophones and marimba... all are strong contenders— but the two I came back to the most were the harp, (due I think to a lot of fairy associations with that whole family of instruments), and the real winner: the Celesta / Celeste.
youtube
also known as a "bell piano," most people will probably be familiar with them from The Nutcracker (dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy), or John Williams' themes for the Harry Potter franchise. I often describe Honey's laughs as being "bell like," as well as the sounds made when the faerie are flying/"speaking" in their simplest form— the celesta is the comparative sound I imagine in both of these cases.
It's magical, fun, but also tinged with this otherworldly... sadness? somberness? I just adore it. and I think it could be played in ways which suit various facets of her personality.

Mirlitons: The Enchanting Ballet of Sugar and Grace
In the enchanting world of ballet, there are few characters as delightful and whimsical as the Mirlitons. From their delicate costumes to their elegant choreography, they represent grace and charm, bringing the magic of ballet to life. If you’ve ever been enchanted by a ballet performance, you’ve likely been captivated by the Mirlitons’ dance, especially in the classic ballet The Nutcracker. Let's dive into the fascinating world of these elegant dancers and discover what makes the Mirlitons by TwirlingBallerinas a must-see!
Who Are the Mirlitons? A Brief History
The Mirlitons are characters from The Nutcracker, a ballet that has charmed audiences around the world for over a century. Originating from Tchaikovsky's iconic score, the Mirlitons perform a light and playful dance, usually in Act II, in the Land of Sweets. But who exactly are they?
Historically, the term "mirliton" refers to a type of flute-like instrument, and in the context of The Nutcracker, it is used to represent delicate, flute-playing characters. Their dance is meant to be light, airy, and joyful, reflecting the sound of the mirliton’s gentle melody. In essence, they bring to life the sweet, sugary essence of confectionary delights through their graceful movements.
But the magic doesn’t stop at history. Over time, the Mirlitons have become a beloved part of The Nutcracker story, adding a touch of whimsy and light-heartedness to the ballet. The Mirlitons by TwirlingBallerinas bring this magical performance to life in a way that enchants audiences of all ages.
The Role of Mirlitons in The Nutcracker: A Dance of Joy
One of the most iconic scenes in The Nutcracker is the Land of Sweets, where Clara is introduced to various characters, each symbolizing different treats. The Mirlitons represent French delicacies, often thought of as marzipan or macarons, making them as visually delightful as they are enchanting to watch.
The Mirlitons’ dance, known as “Danse des Mirlitons,” is a light and elegant number that captures the spirit of playfulness. With gentle, precise movements, the dancers appear to glide across the stage, their costumes flowing like pastel-colored sugar. This visual treat is as sweet as the desserts they represent, which is why audiences eagerly await their turn on stage every season.
TwirlingBallerinas' interpretation of the Mirlitons captures this spirit beautifully. They have crafted a performance that blends the traditional elements of the ballet with a fresh, modern twist, making it accessible and captivating for new generations of ballet lovers.
The Art of Costuming: Dressing Up the Mirlitons
One of the most delightful aspects of the Mirlitons is their exquisite costumes. Usually dressed in pastel hues that mimic the look of delicate sweets, their attire often features ruffles, lace, and floral embellishments. The outfits are designed to be light and ethereal, reflecting the airy, delicate nature of their dance.
Twirling Ballerinas have taken the art of costuming to new heights with their Mirlitons by Twirling Ballerinas collection. Each costume is meticulously designed, ensuring that the dancers not only look beautiful but also move effortlessly. These costumes are crafted to shimmer under the stage lights, adding an extra layer of magic to their performance.
The attention to detail in the costumes is one reason why TwirlingBallerinas’ Mirlitons have been so successful. From the soft fabrics to the intricate designs, everything is created to ensure that the dancers look and feel like they are dancing on air.
The Music Behind the Magic: Tchaikovsky’s Influence
The Mirlitons’ dance would not be as iconic without the timeless music of Tchaikovsky. His composition for “Danse des Mirlitons” is light, delicate, and full of charm, perfectly complementing the graceful movements of the dancers. It is a piece that combines the whimsy of a child’s dream with the sophistication of classical ballet.
The gentle, fluttering notes of the flute, accompanied by strings, make the music for the Mirlitons’ dance instantly recognizable. It has a playful yet elegant quality, making it easy for audiences to get swept up in the melody. This music sets the tone for the entire performance, transporting audiences to a land where sweets come to life and dance across the stage.
TwirlingBallerinas' version of the Mirlitons embraces Tchaikovsky’s original score, but they’ve also brought in subtle, modern elements that add a unique flair. This blend of old and new allows the audience to appreciate the classic beauty of the piece while enjoying a fresh, contemporary take on it.
Why Mirlitons by Twirling Ballerinas Is a Must-See
If you’re looking for a ballet performance that combines tradition with innovation, then Mirlitons by TwirlingBallerinas is a must-see. Their rendition of this classic dance brings out all the joy and grace of the original, but with a creative twist that keeps audiences coming back for more.
What makes TwirlingBallerinas stand out is their commitment to bringing the characters to life. Every detail, from the costumes to the choreography, is carefully thought out, ensuring that the Mirlitons’ dance is not just a performance but an experience. They have managed to preserve the timeless beauty of The Nutcracker while introducing elements that make it feel fresh and exciting.
Watching the Mirlitons by TwirlingBallerinas is like stepping into a world of elegance, sweetness, and joy. It’s a performance that captures the imagination and transports you to a magical place where dreams come alive.

Masters of Melody: A Journey Through the Lives and Legacies of Famous Composers
Introduction:
Music has been a timeless expression of human emotions and creativity, and behind many of the world's most enchanting compositions are the brilliant minds of famous composers. These maestros have left an indelible mark on the world of music, shaping its evolution across centuries and genres. In this article, we will embark on a journey through the lives and legacies of some of the most renowned composers in history.
Ludwig van Beethoven (1770-1827):
One of the greatest and most influential composers of the Classical and Romantic eras, Ludwig van Beethoven's music transcends time. Despite facing personal challenges such as hearing loss, Beethoven composed some of the most iconic works, including the Ninth Symphony and "Moonlight Sonata." His innovative use of form and emotion paved the way for the Romantic movement in music.
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (1756-1791):
A child prodigy who began composing at the tender age of five, Mozart is synonymous with musical genius. His prolific output includes over 600 works, ranging from operas and symphonies to chamber music and piano sonatas. Mozart's timeless compositions, such as "Eine kleine Nachtmusik" and "The Magic Flute," showcase his unparalleled gift for melody and harmony.
Johann Sebastian Bach (1685-1750):
A cornerstone of Baroque music, Johann Sebastian Bach's intricate compositions are a testament to his technical brilliance. Known for his mastery of counterpoint and polyphony, Bach's works, such as the "Brandenburg Concertos" and the "Mass in B Minor," are considered masterpieces that laid the foundation for Western classical music.
Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893):
Tchaikovsky's emotionally charged and expressive compositions have made him a staple in the world of Romantic music. Famous for his ballets, including "Swan Lake," "The Nutcracker," and "Sleeping Beauty," Tchaikovsky's ability to convey deep emotions through orchestration has left an enduring impact on the world of classical music.
Johann Strauss II (1825-1899):
Known as the "Waltz King," Johann Strauss II popularized the waltz and operetta in 19th-century Vienna. His infectious melodies, as heard in compositions like "The Blue Danube" and "Die Fledermaus," continue to be celebrated at traditional balls and concerts. Strauss's influence extends beyond his time, as his waltzes remain a staple in classical repertoire.
Conclusion:
The world of classical music owes much of its richness and diversity to the brilliance of famous composers who dared to push the boundaries of creativity. From the intellectual complexities of Bach to the emotional depth of Beethoven, each composer has left an indelible mark on the musical landscape. Their timeless works continue to resonate with audiences worldwide, reminding us of the enduring power of music to evoke emotion, inspire, and connect us across generations.

Some of my ideas for a Disney Magic Flute :
. It's gonna be like a bit of Wizard of Oz and Encanto in some ways
. So a young lad ( around 18 ) in mid 1940s Egypt, after WW2, is helping his family in Cairo to recover the traumas and stuff after WW2
. He eventually stumbles upon an Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphic mirror presented to him by his grandfather, that was in the attic
. And he stumbles upon a wondrous and magical fantasy land that has influences from Olden Egypt ( like, from Ancient Egypt to 19th century Egypt )
. The music defo be using Mozart's Magic Flute score
. And then similarly with Mozart's original idea, the Sun Pharoah and the Night Queen are embroiled in a bitter custody battle that eventually led to war
. The Princess Pammenes is gifted with solar and lunarkinetic powers, and is a free spirited and charming woman who wants something more of the Royal life she grew up in ( and honestly wants to get away from her narc mom )
. And then turns out Papageno is smitten with Papagena for some time and while Papageno ( who is a magical jinn bird catcher in that idea ) helps Tamino for that quest to join in the Comradeship of Sun, Tamino also helps his jinn friend to win the heart of Papagena, who is a lady in waiting of Pammenes in that adaptation.
. And then at the end, Papageno and Papagena got married
. Oh and guess what?
. Tamino and Pammenes started dating AFTER the Night Queen is defeated
. And they have their first date exploring the streets of Cairo in the 40s at the end ( since Pamino also wants to explore Tamino's world too )
. It is implied that Tamino and Pamina plan to marry after Tamino finishes college in Cairo University
. But for now, Tamino and Pamina ( who was 17 then ) are a happily dating pair
It's a little bit like the Nutcracjer Prince and Clara's case in The Nutcracker in spades
Where Tamino and Pammenes eventually adopt their human personas in Cairo while still carrying out their Royal duties in the Pyramidus land
I know the libretto of the Magic Flute says it sets in ' Ancient/Olden Egypt '
But it didn't say WHEN in Olden Egypt
So I thought of setting Disney's Magic Flute in post WW2 40s Egypt out of sheer creativity
FYI Freemasonry originally came from Ancient Egypt
And it's still a practice in Egypt after the Pharonic Era of Egypt ended
So it must be so amazing for Disney's Taminos, who aspires to be a cultural curator one day, to embark on a land that has influences from Olden Egypt - from Pharonic Eras up till 19th century Egypt
Srsly Disney's Tamino x Pammenes be kinda like Aladdin x Jasmine, Glinda x Oscar ( Oz the Great and Powerful ) and also Marc x Layla in some ways
🤩🤩🤩🥺🥺🥺🥺
