Yeah, NX seems to have gotten it right ... 

I’ll put the rest of my thoughts under a cut for those who have not watched this just yet.

To add to Rawr’s remarks, I was genuinely looking forward to this so much because of Vesemir, and because (and I recognise I might be speaking out of my ass here) I tend to feel like stories based around morally grey characters are better told in anime form. So I believed that this movie would have more space to discuss the grey areas that The Witcher really excels in. However this was a complete let down. And the thing is that its not even about being correct to the book-canon, although since NX keeps insisting that its based on the books, they should at least try to get the major plot points right. Its true that, ultimately, anything except for the books is “fanfiction”, but I genuinely believe that one of the reasons why people love the games is because they tell their own story while retaining the spirit of the books and continuously reach out to the source material.

Sure, you can tell your own story based on a source, but the least you can do, is to do it well. The overall writing and pacing was so bad. I felt like the story just kind of jerked me along and tried to do too many things and introduce too many concepts at once. Even the sound wasn’t right, Filavandrel sounded like he was speaking through muffled cloth for most of his lines. And don’t get me started on the fighting style. You know what one of my favourite elements of the games is? Watching Geralt fight. Its clear that the developers spent time looking into how a Witcher would move. This movie? I genuinely felt like I was watching Naruto again. The animation was nice, but hardly believable. The majority of Vesemir’s movements would be better attributed to someone from the Schools of the Cat or the Viper, if that. And the shoehorning of Lambert, Eskel, and Geralt just suddenly appearing to be in the same generation of Witchers makes me want to scream so loudly. I almost threw my phone when I realised that. 

And what makes it worse to me is that this movie had potential! I enjoyed Luka (even though he looks like he walked off of a One Piece or My Hero Academia set), I enjoyed the dwarf-Witcher with a disability that didn’t get in his way of fighting. I enjoyed the fact that we didn’t get the oh so predictable story line of “Witcher is romantically involved with a sorceress”. A guy who looks middle-age kissing an older woman? Hell yes! The use of portals by Tetra while battling Vesemir? That was incredibly fun to watch. But, overall, this was a complete let down from start to finish, and if this is the direction that season 2 is taking, I have to say that I’ve lost all hope for NX’s adaptation of this series.

Context: I was really excited about this movie. Really excited. It's no secret that my favourite part of The Witcher as a franchise is the lore behind the witchers. I was hoping this would give me faith in The Witcher: Blood Origin, even if the main show was a complete loss for me personally. Vesemir, Vesemir, Vesemir. Yes, give me more of a hugely overlooked character.

Netflix’s live-action Witcher series casts its Vesemir • Eurogamer.net

And, no, it’s not Mark Hamill.

Following the success of the Witcher TV series’ first season (and, of course, the enduring popularity of a certain inescapable song), streaming service Netflix has continued to fan the flames of hype with an ever-increasing roll-call of cast members for season two. And now it’s finally named the man who’ll fill the shoes of Geralt of Rivia’s friend and mentor, Vesemir.

Admittedly, it’s probably not the name some fans were expecting/hoping to hear; recent rumours suggested that Mark Hamill had been offered the part of Vesemir (and Hamill himself expressed an interest in the role last year), but we know now that Danish actor Kim Bodnia will play “the Continent’s oldest and most experienced Witcher”, Vesemir, in season 2.

Bodnia, if you’re unfamiliar, received a BAFTA nomination for Best Supporting Actor last year for his roll in spy thriller Killing Eve, so the character should be in good hands. It’s unclear, however, if he’ll also be doing voice acting duties in Netflix’s previously announced animated Witcher movie, which will chart Vesemir’s adventures long before meeting Geralt.

Season two of Netflix’s live action series isn’t currently expected to arrive until sometime next year, and will see Henry Cavill Anya Chalotra, Freya Allan, and Joey Batey reprise their respective roles as Geralt, Yennefer, Ciri, and Jaskier.

New to season 2 are Yasen Atour as Coen, Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Paul Bullion as Lambert, Thue Ersted Rasmussen as Eskel, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia, Mecia Simson as Francesca, and Game of Thrones’ Kristofer Hivju as Nivellen.

Seven new members are joining the cast of Netflix’s The Witcher

The filming of season two of Netflix’s The Witcher has already begun. We also informed you of a new actress who will play the character Violet, “a young girl whose playful and whimsical demeanour is a front for a smarter and more sadistic character.” Now two weeks later, seven more members are joining the cast.

Yasen Atour, Thue Ersted Rasmussen and Paul Bullion will portray Geralt’s witcher buddies Coen, Eskel and my personal favorite, “Lambert Lambert, what a prick”. Eskel is the oldest among them and probably Geralt’s best witcher friend. Lambert is just awesome and Coen is the youngest and probably the least known witcher among them. He only appeared in the first game and died in the beginning.

The rest are Agnes Bjorn as Vereena, Aisha Fabienne Ross as Lydia van Bredevoort, and Mecia Simson as Francesca Findabair.  Vareena is a bruxa, a powerful vampire. Lydia is Vilgefortz assistant and also a sorceress. Fransesca is also a sorceress and an elf, she is also considered to be the most beautiful woman in the world by quite a margin, at least in the books.

Lastly, it seems the rumors were correct, because Kristofer Hivju is also joining as Nivellen. Hivju portrayed the legendary Tormund Giantsbane in the well known HBO’s TV series Game of Thrones. Nivellen was a cursed human in a beast like form who lived alone in a rundown manor in Redania. Sadly, it looks like Hivju will only play a small part in the upcoming season, when he could easily be Crach an Craite or any other Skellige jarl or lord.

Stérilisation basse température: des utilisateurs pas toujours satisfaits notamment sur la maintenance (enquête)

La satisfaction des utilisateurs d'appareils de stérilisation à basse température achetés principalement pour prendre en charge l'instrumentation des robots chirurgicaux semble perfectible, selon une enquête nationale présentée mardi à Marseille au congrès de la Société française des sciences de la stérilisation (SF2S).

L'utilisation de la stérilisation basse température qui utilise le peroxyde d'hydrogène est de plus en plus importante du fait de l'augmentation des activités robotiques et de dispositifs médicaux non autoclavables car thermosensibles. Le marché s'est développé (cf dépêche du 27/09/2018 à 18:46).

On compte maintenant cinq appareils différents, a détaillé Dominique Combeau, pharmacien à la Pitié-Salpêtrière (AP-HP Sorbonne université). Il s'agit des modèles Sterrad* 100 NX ou 100 S (ASP, groupe Johnson & Johnson), Vpro max* (Steris), HMTS* d'une société coréenne, commercialisé par Steam en France, 130HPO* (Matachana, avec du plasma), et Stericool* (Getinge). Il a aussi mentionné Sterizone VP4* du canadien TSO3 utilisant l'injection d'ozone en plus du peroxyde d'hydrogène mais qui n'existe pas encore en Europe.

Or les utilisateurs rencontrent un certain nombre de difficultés et cela a motivé la réalisation d'une enquête nationale sur la stérilisation basse température. Elle a été réalisée par le biais d'un questionnaire conçu en collaboration avec la société savante sous forme de Google form* mis en ligne sur le site de la SF2S en avril et envoyé via la newsletter aux adhérents.

Au total, 47 établissements ont répondu dont 35 en France (sur un parc estimé à 80) plus 12 dans divers pays provenant d'adhérents francophones. La plupart d'entre eux étaient des CHU (23), des CH (14) et 10 venaient d'autres types d'établissements. La moyenne des lits en médecine-chirurgie-obstétrique (MCO) était de 916.

Pour les réponses françaises, les acquisitions dataient de 2008 jusqu'à 2019. Les établissements avaient essentiellement un seul appareil (91%), mais 6% en avaient deux et un établissement (3%) en avait quatre. Le modèle le plus répandu reste la machine Sterrad* pour 63%, le Vpro* pour 26%, l’appareil de Matachana pour 8% et 3% Stericool*.

Les cycles les plus utilisés sont le cycle rapide pour le Sterrad* et celui de Matachana, et le cycle sans lumière pour la machine Vpro*.

Il s'agit majoritairement d'appareils à double porte (75%), intégrés dans le mur d'autoclaves (62%), tandis que 32% ont des locaux spécifiques.

Le motif d'acquisition est surtout le robot chirurgical (61%) comme pour l'Assistance publique-hôpitaux de Paris (AP-HP) qui s'est équipée en 2018-2019 après avoir acquis neuf robots en 2018, puis les dispositifs médicaux non autoclavables (29%). L'appareil basse température est surtout utilisé pour stériliser les optiques de robot (36%), pour des lentilles mini quad en ophtalmologie (24%), pour les endoscopes souples (19%), pour des câbles (17%), et moins pour les moteurs (4%). Il n'est utilisé qu'à 39% dans le cadre du protocole standard prion (PSP).

Les principaux problèmes rencontrés par les utilisateurs sont des échecs de cycle (26% des réponses), un mécontentement vis-à-vis de la réponse du fournisseur en cas de panne (19%), les compatibilités des DM avec l'équipement (19%), la date d'acheminement et une détérioration du DM traité (7%).

Les cycles en échec les plus fréquents sont le cycle rapide pour le Sterrad* et le cycle lumière pour Vpro*. Sur 24 réponses, 67% ont eu moins de 10% des cycles en échec (moins de 1% des cycles pour 56% mais quand même 4% ont plus de 50% de cycles en échec).

Pour la libération des charges, 80% le font sur des indicateurs paramétriques et 20% utilisent des indicateurs biologiques en plus de la libération paramétrique. La libération est répartie de façon homogène entre les pharmaciens, les agents de stérilisation et les responsables de production.

La qualification des équipements est faite à 80% par les fournisseurs d'appareils, 20% par des sociétés externes.

Sur la maintenance qui est faite à 85% par les fournisseurs (12% par le service technique ou biomédical), la satisfaction est de 6 sur 10 en moyenne pour les délais d'intervention et de 7/10 pour la prestation, avec des notes maximales à 10 mais des minimums à 1, soit des utilisateurs "assez mécontents", a commenté Dominique Combeau.

Au total, 83% disent être satisfaits de l'équipement lui-même mais seulement 69% le recommanderaient à d'autres.

A voir ces notes assez basses de satisfaction, l'enquête montre que "la maintenance est largement insuffisante en France", a souligné Christophe Lambert (CH Métropole Savoie), président de la SF2S, qui modérait la session.

Il reste beaucoup de questions sur ces appareils, a-t-il constaté. La SF2S prévoit de mettre en place un groupe de travail en 2020 sur ces équipements, a-t-il ajouté.

Que les utilisateurs reprennent la main

En Suisse où la stérilisation basse température est bien répandue, Hervé Ney des hôpitaux universitaires de Genève a recommandé de faire des tests en cas de décision d'investissement à prendre et de ne pas seulement regarder le prix d'achat, la maintenance, les qualifications, les consommables, les retours d'expérience des autres et la réputation de la solution proposée. Pour lui, il est important que les utilisateurs reprennent la main pour poser les questions qui dérangent.

Il a montré que l'on pouvait utiliser des dispositifs d'épreuve de procédés et les soumettre aux cycles des fournisseurs, en conditions d'exploitation. Il a déploré le manque d'un dispositif d'épreuve de procédés universel. Le projet de norme EN 17180 renseigne sur ces types de contrôles.

A l'hôpital Bicêtre au Kremlin-Bicêtre (AP-HP université Paris Saclay), établissement qui a acheté le premier appareil Stericool* en France en janvier 2019, Ethel Huynh a démontré qu'il était possible de qualifier cet appareil de manière indépendante du fournisseur et de valider le procédé pour un matériau non encore utilisé en stérilisation basse température, le système d'emballage de gaines Ultra* (Amcor-SPS).
