Theme Autumn Fest

Commentary

I've been drawing a lot of castles and buildings lately. So Autumn Fest is about as vague as celluloid scream. I started my illustration with the pumpkin added the eyes drew up the hedge then added the stone work but I still had a lot of negative space. So lets add a haunted house style thing people would whip up for the season, that'll look nice. I think it comes together I like the uneven bricks and such.

Les graphismes atypiques du jeu Return of the Obra Dinn

Return of the Obra Dinn est un jeu vidéo crée par Lucas Pope paru en octobre 2018. Le joueur se trouve en 1807 dans la peau d'un expert en assurance en charge d'inspecter un navire, l'Obra Dinn, afin de comprendre les raisons de la disparitions de tout l'équipage en remontant dans le temps.

La grande particularité de ce jeu est ses graphismes. En effet les graphismes du jeu font références à de vieux ordinateurs monochromatiques datant des années 80. Le jeu est codé sur 1 bit donc il n’y a que deux possibilités de couleurs, ces 2 couleurs sont présentes en aplats ou pointillisme mais suffisent à donner l'ambiance très spécifique voulue par Lucas Pope. Ce graphisme permet de donner la sensation de voyage dans le temps et même si le style est très simple on a la sensation d'être en 1807.

Le jeu permet donc au joueur de choisir le style graphique qu'il préfère entre ces choix graphiques des différents ordinateurs:

- Macintosh

- IBM 5151

- Zenith ZVM 1240

- Commodore 1084

- IBM 8503

- LCD

Ce type de graphisme minimaliste contraste énormément avec les jeux actuels qui sont généralement bien plus détaillés et réalistes. Le minimalisme des graphismes permet aussi de se concentrer sur les détails de l'histoire qui sont très importants pour résoudre l'enquête.

So the initial idea was someone zombified radio host when I realized I was being too narrow with my thinking. So I paid an homage to a famous horror host. If your not sure of who it is then I didn't draw them big enough.

Theme Graveyard Shift

Commentary

Been there working the graveyard shift, a bit tired of drawing spooky locales I wanted to fiddle a smidge with common spaces so I drew up a convenience store clerk exhausted unaware of the creatures lurking in the dark. I also made a point to try and fill as much space as I could with something which led to figuring out how to interpret the area in 2 colors as best I could. I also didn't get a wink of sleep last night because I was led to believe that my entire collection of images had been deleted so I was rapidly downloading them 1 by 1 only to learn no the website just took a minute to load.

Ugh sickness and lack of foods funds making life a bit difficult. I don't really get what they mean with this prompt as its kind of vague. I looked up references of run down houses for inspiration but I'm really not feeling it today. I like building houses in 1-bit but maybe I need to try bigger or not be so sick.

Well this one caused a bit of research. The initial idea was yeah just draw a witchy themed knife but then I learned about Athames ritualistic blades in Wicca and that got the art ball to a crawl. With it being cultural I don't want to misrepresent. I found sketches and I drew what I saw.

Commentary

The beauty of working with a reference and a model that is already innately "kursed". I started with a quick thumbnail sketch then worked with that for the final piece. Kewpie dolls are innately creepy so all I really changed was flipping the heart upside down. Not a clue who would want to collect these things.

Commentary there's quite a good bit going well for this piece both eyeballs look good, the eyeball is rather creepy and the beak is nice and sharp but I do feel that the head shape makes it look more like a parrot instead of a raven. I also struggled to find a Discworld quote from Quoth the Raven and this was the best I could do without checking out the books and searching for one page by page.

I kind of take issue with this prompt as a seance typically is summoning something otherworldly and a selfie is taking a picture of yourself. So how does one summon oneself? So my thinking was that our witch here is summoning something old that might have had selfies. Let me know if your old enough to know what she's summoning.

Only after posting do I realize I could put him in short shorts as a nod to Revy from Black Lagoon, truly art is agony. While I was meditating I got the inspiration from a previous piece all the way back in january so I decided to recreate it here. I feel with the simple lines I expressed a lot of texture in this figure and while some color would bring him to life he looks fine as is.

Commentary

You'd think having a hooked hand and a knife is like putting a hat on a hat but who am I to judge this thorough maniac. For this piece I had a simple shape for a crow and realized it wasn't looking very scared as I was relying on sweat and little particles to create the effect. So after finishing the slasher I came back and gave it a more dynamic pose, head up wings out. Finally I started building my background out some more to make this look like some grizzly toolshed, if I had some more colors I'd add some wooden texture but as is the piece comes together well.

Imposing monolith no biggie especially in 1-bit. Being able to run around with work pounding on me less easy. Not much to say drew a solid pillar and spent the rest of my time struggling with clouds, I wanted them to pass in front of the monolith but it wasn't coming together. It also looks like an alien abduction which might come in handy for a future piece.

Hey this matches my mood today. Sudden life costs are making things difficult and now I kind of have to scramble while trying to figure out how to make some ends meet. I wanted to capture that energy here while also practicing drawing at angles and making objects. There's a lot of negative space her and I feel that hurts the piece but its a day I have to work so my time able to work is limited.

Weirdly this is one of the major reasons I wanted to do 1-bit the limitation makes me focus on expressing my backgrounds and details through design alone. In this piece I think I nailed that while the ghosts are lacking in details (since they're just bedsheets) but what I could express I'm pleased with. Good piece overall.
