"Forbidden 4th Roycegaryen Rilian" still lives in my mind rent free after that OC mashup from a bit ago, so I'm dropping 🕯 if you're of a mind to indulge me, lol

Listen, I was catching up on SOTF yesterday and thinking about the Forbidden 4th Roycegaryen au myself. I’m only on chapter 10 (yes, I know, I’m a slow reader) so I’m not sure how the Roycegaryens develop into their teen and adult years, but I’m gonna try.

Also in terms of birth order, I think Rilian would be the youngest or twins with Aemon since they’re around the same age when Rhea dies (but also making Rhea give birth to twins two times… the woman needs a break.) Anyway, lemme stop rambling.

Daemon Targaryen and Rhea Royce if they managed to consummate their marriage, from that one time the twins Lyanna and Aemon Targaryen were born.

In their childhood, both twins were very loved by his parents, Daemon even tried to live healthy with his bronze dog so as not to fight in front of the children.

On his ninth name day, Daemon had to take his children to King's Landing, insisting that his children needed to learn about their dragons and his family.

Lyanna grew up with her cousin Rhaenyra who was only a year older than her, shortly after her arrival the hand of the king had to bring her daughter to the fortress to serve both as the lady of company of her

When the King decided to marry Alicent after Aemma Arryn's death, Lyanna and Rhaenyra began to have bad blood with the new queen.

Both avoiding her, Lyanna supported Rhaenyra for being angry with Alicent, she decided to betray her without caring a bit about her friendship.

But when the rumor about Rhaenyra and her father in Silk Street reached her, and days after her mother died mysteriously after her father's exile, it was breaking point for Lyanna.

She continued to feign friendship with Rhaenyra, comforting her when she was informed of her wedding to Laenor Velaryon, judging the queen together.

But Lyanna and Aemon have the perfect move to get back at Rhaenyra, and get Alicent Hightower off the board for once.

My HOTD Headcannons:

Rhaenyra gets exposed at Driftmark and Daemon is killed unpleasantly by Caraxes who hates being used as a war dragon. Or he is used by one of my OC’s for a Valyrian ritual as punishment.

No Blood and Cheese happens and if it happens, it doesn’t happen to Helaena.

The blacks have ridiculous support, hell no. In my fics, the Reach, Vale and Riverlands refuse to help them and side with the greens.

Daemon’s daughter fics, I don’t feel comfortable writing them as their are a lot of the fics with that theme on AO3.

Aegon is a rapist, not in my fics. I feel sorry for Tom Glynn Carney, he was against his character being made into that.

No sympathy for Corlys, Rhaenys, Baela and Rhaena. In my fics, they reap what they sow.

Rhaenyra has a happy marriage with Daemon, not a chance in hell.

Rhaenyra has children with Daemon. No and if she does, they don’t live.

Pro Viserys, no. In my fics he faces the consequences and in one fic where he remains married to Aemma but marries Alicent and Laena, Aemma is disgusted by him, Daemon and Rhaenyra. She instead cares for her three surviving daughters, Alicent and her kids, and Laena and her kids.

Rhaenyra is shown mercy, no. In my fics she either dies, gets eaten, or murdered by Daemon in a fit of rage for losing the throne. She knew what kind of man she was marrying.

Pro Cregan Stark, no. I don’t like the character and how he punishes the greens but lets team black get away with everything.

Aemond/Aegon cheat on the OC, no. I don’t like that and when I read it in a fic, I was really disappointed that the OC cheated on Aemond who was genuinely innocent.

Laenor sympathetic, no. He was okay with stealing his nieces and cousins birthrights so his wife’s bastards could steal Driftmark.

Alicent Hightower bashing, no. In my fics, she’s a complicated woman who was made to be a mother far too young. That poor woman is kind, but hates Viserys.

Anti Otto, no. Yes, he was wrong to push Alicent into marrying Viserys, but so are Corlys and Rhaenys. I sincerely doubt Aemon, Jocelyn, Baelon and Alyssa would be pleased knowing their children are fine with having sex with underage girls.

Pro Mysaria, no. I will be portraying her as she is in the books, a disgusting brothel owner who psychologically traumatises young women.

No dragons will be dying in my stories.

Alysanne Blackwood will not be written in a positive light. Her young nephew, Royce Blackwood and Agnes Blackwood (my OC) hate her and are secretly in love with two Brackens.

Criston Cole is not a bloodthirsty man.

Rhea Royce lives, I love that woman and will be making it clear Daemon has performance issues.

No whitewashing of Rhaenyra, her little Strong bastards or Daemon.

HI YES HELLO ARE YOU THERE? Right, please RUN do not WALK to go ready this fantastic 'What if Daemon and Rhea Royce ended up having kids' AU because um hi, yes, I'm obsessed. I'm in love. I mean, okay, I've always loved The Roycegaryen kids since being introduced to them last summer. I would die for the Roycegaryen kids (they are even making a cameo in Maiden even though there's no Daemon relationship there they are just that fucking good) and I support all their successes and their crimes. Oooof this is... just such a high caliber AU series, with a flourishing, expansive cast that evokes GRRM at his best.

THE ROYCES! HOUSE ROYCE! So many cousins! Baratheon representation! So many stories and connections. It's a Charlie Day Board of who is tied to who and just goes the extra mile to make this world feel so alive.

This is not a pro-Daemon fic. He is seen through the eyes of his three eldest children which makes things rough, but I definitely feel that it's in character for an angry, abandoned, highly emotional 16 year old who was sent away and then had kids and that's all really fucking complicated.

I think what I love most about this story is the quality of it and that quality is consistent through all my favorite things. The worldbuilding is fantastic. Misa knows Westeros, she understands the houses, and the politics. One of my AU frustrations is when people go 'what if' and then... don't account for the full butterfly effect (and I mean that on a 'they don't change anything' way, not a 'you didn't account for EVERYTHING AND ALL THE TINY DETAILS' way because there's a lot and it's fic). The implications of what it would mean for Daemon to have children, and for Daemon to also have a son is fully taken into account.

The characters. The characters. THE CHARACTERS. First off, hi, yeah, I would take Misa's masterclass course on writing kids because kids are fucking difficult and they feel so real. We spend the first 5/6 chapters dealing with 7-14 year old Yorick and Ella, and Rhaenyra and Alicent and Laenor and Laena. They feel like children. They are full of hope and imagination and bossiness and not understanding how to talk about things. I'm not one who likes going through the 'let's start when they're kids' phases because it's just rarely well done. This? this is well done. This is complex and complicated and innocent and christ almighty, it's just so good.

These characters are imperfect. They have tempers, they fuck up, they make mistakes, they are not always the victim, they are the victim! they can be the villain! They can be the heroes. It's real. These characters feel real. I feel confused that this is not, in fact, how the first half of watching House of the Dragon went, or why are they not in Fire and Blood? I am invested in a cast of OCs in a way I haven't been in awhile because yes, this cast is Majorly OC Centric in the best possible way. (of course, we'll see the TargTower kids coming up) but wow. yeah. I need to sit down and think about my own sense of writing and what I juggle and handle and suddenly I am just terribly inspired.

aelyra targaryen - she's alysanne and jaehaerys' second daughter, she was born in 54 AC, a year after daenaerys and she dies in 129 AC just a few minutes after viserys dies. she ends up marrying both aemon and baelon and she's the mother of rhaenys, viserys, daemon and an oc visenya ii.

visenya ii targaryen - she's aelyra and aemon's youngest child and the youngest all together. she has a bit of a romance with daemon in her younger years before he married rhea royce and she ends up married to cregan stark and becomes the lady of winterfell. she has a known hatred for alicent that she refuses to talk about.

baelon ii targaryen - he's the only child of daemon targaryen and rhea royce, this kind of came from the idea of 'what if rhea and daemon did have a child together'. in some verses, daemon knows about his son but doesn't know how to properly connect with a child that came from someone he hates and in other verses he never knows until rhea dies. baelon ends up in the care of viserys and alicent. he ends up becoming one eye instead of aemond and he has love interests in aegon, aemond, helaena. in the main verse he ends up married to a baratheon girl but sometimes he ends up married to helaena. in total he ends up having eight children. five with his baratheon wife and three with helaena.

diana royce-targaryen - she's the daughter of rhea royce and daemon targaryen. (you can find her intro post HERE)

cerise lannister - she's aegon ii's wife in this verse. she's the younger sister of tyland and jason lannister. she has a stern personality. she hates cheaters and gamblers. she has a bit of a manipulative streak and likes to egg people on because she thinks it's fun to see them angry. she has her own lion named, leopold.

vivian tyrell - the rose of highgarden, she ends up as daeron's wife in this verse. she's a lovely girl with an eye for flowers but she's also very skilled in the art of fighting and dislikes it when men other than her husband try to touch her. she's well versed in the art of poison.

eloise baratheon - she's the youngest baratheon sister, a very naive and innocent girl who has never actually seen the outside world because of her isolation at the hand of her father and sisters. she's the spitting image of her deceased mother, causing an obsession over her to form between her father and her sisters. eloise goes on to become aemond's wife after he becomes obsessed with her sweetness.

daella targaryen + daella iii targaryen - daella i targaryen was aegon, visenya, and rhaenys' youngest sister and ended up being aegon's thrid wife due to the obsession her older siblings held over her. she had four children with aegon who's fates remain unknown. daella herself dies in dragonstone, just a year before visenya.

daella iii targaryen is the fourth targaryen child, and alicent's second daughter. the soul of daella i entered her body after she was born a stillborn and that almost death in the eyes of the public caused alicent to develop paranoia and a deep obsession and possession over her youngest daughter. daella iii lives out her life under the obsession of her family while trying to navigate her surroundings.

ysilla martell - a princess of dorne that was fostered by king jaehaerys, she ends up married to baelon and has two children with him. ysilla is very standoffish, she uses jokes to hide how awkward she is when it comes to affection, she doesn't show her love very easily because she doesn't really know how so she just showers her loved ones in her wealth.

Daelaenys Targaryen - she's my immortal targaryen oc. daelaenys' mother was a skilled witch who was skilled in black magic. she performed a ritual that gave her daughter immortality at the cost of her own life. so daelaenys can't die, at all. trust her, she's tried everything and she's still living. she's daenys the dreamers great-great grandmother and now lives in seclusion after being kidnapped by visenya and then escaping. she lives in godswood. those who seek her out will never be able to find her. she's very cold and disgruntled. mushroom gave her the nickname of undying blizzard because of her white hair, colder than ice nature and her immortality.

Lisenya Targaryen/Little Dove: lisenya is the daughter of rhaenyra and ser criston cole. depending on the au, she either grows up as rhaenyra and laenor's child or she grows up and alicent or viserys' child.

in the latter au, alicent steals lisenya from her crib after she feels a deep connection with the child and lisenya grows up being loved and adored by the green. lisenya is a dragon dreamer but different than helaena, rather than dream about general events, lisenya only dreams about her future and can only remember it long enough to paint it and then she forgets it.

ok ok ok, some targ oc facts:

saella alysanne targaryen, youngest child and only daughter of baelon and alyssa targaryen.

born in 84 AC in a traumatic labour that cost her mother, alyssa, her life not six months after saella’s birth. 

born and raised in dragonstone where she was constantly getting into mischief with her brothers. as youngsters, daemon and saella would often escape dragonstone castle and explore the dragon nesting sites, returning home late at night with singed eyebrows and soot smudged on their cheeks. 

baelon had always wished for a daughter and doted on saella from the moment she was born, with this only increasing after the death of his beloved wife. saella was always commended for being a spitting image of her mother, with her blonde hair and sharp features, and she was the apple of her father’s eye.

on her thirteenth name day and two years after the death of baelon’s brother, prince aemon, baelon betrothed saella to the first grandson of boremund baratheon, royce. royce was the son of boremund’s son, borros, and borros’ first wife who died in childbirth. the match was a strong one, with boremund a staunch ally of the targaryens (since his sister jocelyn had been married to prince aemon). the fight that ensued between saella and baelon lasted weeks, with saella the one to eventually concede when she saw how her distance pained her father. saella and royce were wed not three years later, when the pair were 16 and 14 respectively. 

within twelve months, baelon fell ill and died suddenly. saella was 17 when her eldest brother, viserys, was named heir to the iron throne. 

royce baratheon and saella had a temultuous start to their marriage, neither of them particularly pleased to have forced into the match. saella lamented the fact that none of her children would be targaryens in name, and royce hated that she seemed more content to ride atop her dragon or engage in courtly politics than spend time with him. 

the coronation of viserys and death of boremund baratheon, both within the span of a few years, mellowed both royce and saella. the pair moved permanently to kings landing to show support for viserys, with royce named heir to his house and future lord of storm’s end when his father, borros, took over house baratheon. where daemon tried and failed at governance on viserys’ small council, saella thrived in court as the future lady of storm’s end and sister to the king. while their marriage had been chosen for them, royce and saella found love together and were happily married for decades.

saella and royce eventually had a son, aeryn, and a daughter, juliana, not two years later. both children inherited the black hair of their father, although aeryn was born with piercing purple-blue eyes to match his targaryen-style name. 

prior to the dance of the dragons, saella (and by extension, royce) remained strong supporters of rhaenyra and the blacks. however royce’s father, borros baratheon and lord of storm’s end, had grown skeptical of rhaenyra’s claim though, and when confronted by aemond a few days into the dance, threw his lot in with aegon ii and the greens.

Sarra x Aemon

The “please leave me alone I need to go cry” duo. Honestly they’d work just fine as friends so that also is a vibe, but Sarra is probably the perfect type of person to be married to Aemon bc she really couldn’t care less about what he’s up to. She doesn’t even really want to be there in the first place. That being said, I think they could bond over their more reserved personalities and also their respective trauma. Lots of sitting in comfortable silence, going about their own days, with no expectation of interaction but no aversion to it either.

Kaleb x Daenys

I mean, come on. These two would honestly probably be worse than Daenys and Tyland. They’re stupidly lovey-dovey and have a stupid amount of children.

In this universe, I think it would be that Kaleb falls for her instead of Rhaenyra and might actually attempt to marry her because it wouldn’t be nearly as hard to do that compared to marrying Rhaenyra. And they absolutely would be caught smooching and acting like lovesick teenagers all over the castle. It would be such a problem.

And Kaleb would let Daenys do pretty whatever she wanted because he’s that kinda guy.

Medrick stumbled forward as the toe of his boot caught on one of the gnarled roots of the pine trees that filled out the space of New Castle’s godswood before getting to the weirwood heart tree standing alone in a large, circular clearing at the far end. He laughed, giddy and excited, and he leaned into Aemon as his steadying touch turned to outright groping.

“You planned that.”

It was well past a crush at this point. Still, he raised his eyebrows and pursed his lips as he looked down at Rhea and Abby and Mya as they all held hands around him, dragging Randa and Aerea and Adrienne with them as they all circled him and laughed.

"Do you really think so?" He hoped they believed his surprise. He didn't want to ruin their fun.

"Lara has a crush on you!" Rhea teased again, doubling down on her assertion.

"Lara wants to kiss you!" Abby giggled.

"Lara thinks you're handsome and wants to get married tomorrow!" Mya added, her tone less sing-songy than Rhea's. Aerea, Adrienne, and Randa didn't say anything, too busy giggling because they were just happy to be included with the older girls.

"What do you all think I should do then?" Aemon asked as a small smile played at the corners of his mouth. He could indulge his nieces and their friends, there was no harm in it. And they were having fun.
