A fascinated thing about Maomao is how she's not immune to Jinshi’s beauty, and yet it feels like it! Because that's what Jinshi believes!

And so, collectively, the fandom treats it as such (reading some posts and fics), but it's really not true. Maomao is not immune to his beauty, has never been even from the very first novel, and the examples are right there!

The descriptions when he's in the room (or not!), the comparisons with other beauties, the "can topple a nation" commentary, the nymph that should hardly be a real walking human but is. Fascinating.

What she's immune to is his facade. She's the first to acknowledge, unbeknownst to Jinshi, that he wanted to and does use his beauty to seduce and even manipulate people (and her) for his benefit, and it's what doesn't work on her. She's seen that same notion in the brothels. She doesn't care for it.

It's why they work better when he's real with her.

bakugou shifts, crossing his arms across his broad chest. “what?” he snaps, annoyance bleeding into his tone.

bakugou rolls his eyes. “tch. i have no idea what the hell you’re talking about.”

kirishima looks to denki, who is also staring at bakugou in complete shock. bakugou rarely smiled—instead, his face was almost always molded to a blank look of indifference no matter where he went or who he spoke to. which is why it was so jarring for both kirishima and denki when bakugou smiled when talking about something you did recently.

both boys had yet to meet bakugou’s new neighbor across the hall from him, but were very interested in how smitten the usually angry blonde seemed to be.

“bakugou—you were smiling.” denki raises his eyebrows as he points at the blonde.

bakugou scowls. “I smile.”

kirishima and denki glance at each other quickly, before dissolving into laughter.

bakugou shoots his friends a hard glare. “you two are morons.”

“and you’re in looooove!” denki sing-songs, ducking out of the way when bakugou tries to grip the back of his shirt to hold him in place.

kirishima laughs, lips tipping up in a grin when he notices that the tips of bakugou’s ears are a bright red.
