If transmasc is an umbrella term for transmen, masc nonbinaries, etc and transfem is an umbrella term for transwomen, Fem nonbinary etc and trans neutral for those that feels they’re neither Fem or masc etc. what would be the equivalent to trans dynamic Alpha/Beta/Omega? Cause I know while biology wise it would fall under these terms it seems so restrictive and just focusing on the sex biological parts which may be the point of a/b/o, but like idk as an asexual I feel like they would be separate terms due to a/b/o not being the ‘normal’ human. Yknow?

I am not a linguist, so I wouldn’t be the person to turn to for crafting some new terminology, haha. But this did get me lost in some philosophy sauce so here’s the product of that:

For the sake of establishing a foundation, let’s say the following are the “original/traditional/common” transdynamic terms:

General: Transdynamic, adynamic*, dynamfluid/dynamifluid

Transition states (in the format of the primary notion “mtf”): atb, ato, bta, bto, ota, otb

Some thoughts on these terms:

The terms don’t have to solely equate to a change in sexual organs, because secondary biology isn’t exclusively sexual. You could focus on a surgery that stops the formation of a knot, sure. But you could also focus on HRT that alters the hormones that make you smell like your adab (assigned dynamic at birth?), which is arguably very non-sexual. I think it’d be hard to change the non-sexual without changing the sexual, but you can still make the non-sexual elements the emphasis. So I’m actually rather ok with the terms we have now if the argument is they seem too sexual, because they don’t feel very sexual to me

That being said, these terms do feel very biologically driven and limiting. You only have about 6 options in the transition states? That’s quite binary

*I don’t think I’ve actually seen the word adynamic used. Instead, authors refer to an adynamic person as a delta. And this classification is where the mindfuckery starts for me

Because tertiary dynamics cover a level of transness in secondary dynamics. By definition, a tertiary dynamic typically describes someone who biologically aligns to their adab, but not socially. Or, in some cases, they cover the “miscellaneous” category of secondary genders, ie experiencing all 3 dynamics, or none of the dynamics.

So now we have to question: how intertwined are the ideas of secondary body versus secondary instinct/soul? Below are some examples of people with this “body vs instinct” nuance:

Skye is a cis male. They were born a beta. Skye biologically feels no discomfort/dysphoria in their current body. But socially/instinctively, they have the soul of an alpha. What do we call Skye?

Dusk is a cis female. They were born an omega. Dusk feels extreme dysphoria in their body because of their dynamic, but their omega instinct feels calming/natural to them. What do we call Dusk?

Star is intersex. They were also born with mixed dynamic biology. What is the term for that? Would it be two intersex conditions (primary-intersex and secondary-intersex), or would we classify it as intersex and a tertiary dynamic?

Moon experiences all three dynamics at once bodily but does not relate to any of them socially/mentally. What do we call Moon?

Gender labels are limiting —regardless of if it’s primary, secondary, or tertiary— because they’re an attempt to classify something that often can’t be classified in a simplistic/binary way. Having labels to describe every complexity is impossible because complexity is infinite. Having umbrella terms is almost guaranteed to be limiting and/or reducing to the complexity itself.

Soooooo…… fuck labels! Or make them whatever you want in your verse, just stay consistent and, more importantly, make it meaningful when it’s not consistent. Include characters with nuanced dynamics and let readers struggle with the material alongside you

Alphas = protection

Omegas = nurturing

Betas = exploration and equilibrium

To say a trans beta is inherently trans neutral doesn’t feel right to me. Because why do betas have to be neutral, why do alpha shave to be masc and omegas Fem?

Also if like, say they’re transfem and trans alpha. In our terms they’d be transfemmasc (intersex term). However - That would be stepping into intersex only / exclusive terms and while a/b/o has those elements it doesn’t seem right yknow? Cause I’m intersex I feel like ppl would really really need to research! And to apply them to general a/b/o seems like it could lead to stereotypes and failure of using the terms correctly

i don’t know greek at all but maybe someone in the community can help! How I would do it is still have trans Fem/neu/masc as that would be for female/male/etc but also use trans + the Greek words for guard, explore, and care. And that would be for the dynamics!

Like, are heat/rut suppressants hotly debated topics like birth control is in the real world? Is there religious/political pushback against them? Is insurance required to pay for it?

Are these issues something that workers' rights groups and unions fight for in places where they don't exist? Are such benefits dependent on if you are full-time vs. part-time? Do different companies have different policies in the absence of legal protections? How does this affect the job market?

Are there "clean living" blogs dedicated to things like "10 foods to eat to quell your rut without suppressants" and people who claim suppressants cause all kinds of health problems with no evidence to back their claim? Okay so in my head this is what the omegaverse population distribution looks like

So half the population is Beta, 30% is Alpha and Omega, 18% is gamma/delta/sigma (combinations of alpha beta and omega traits), 1% is "other" (uncategorizable, no dynamic traits, multiple reproductive tracts, etc. Some of them may call themselves Thetas or Iotas or other names, many are falsely lumped in with other dynamics, so this number is a bit squishy), and 1% is Transdynamic (like transgender, but for secondary sex).

But these percentages vary by society due to genetic, environmental, and cultural factors.

• So I'm thinking. Like. 70-80% of the general population are betas, 10-15% are alphas and 10-15% are omegas. Alphas are super overrepresented in professional sports, so the team is maybe 50/50 or 40/60 alphas:betas.

• Alphas include Rebecca, Roy, Isaac, Rupert, Zava, and most of Richmond's first team.

• Betas include Ted, Beard, Sam, Keeley (although I could also see her as a transdynamic alpha), Colin, Bumbercatch, and most of Richmond's second team.

• Jamie's either the first omega in the pl or one of the first, and Nate is the first omega to ever coach in the pl <3 I also think Trent would be an omega and take an interest in sports journalism because it's such a foreign environment to him.

• Jamie's dad is either an alpha or an insecure beta who is constantly overcompensating because he's not an alpha. But either way, he hates the idea of having an omega son and dips as soon as Jamie is born. Then later on when he finds out Jamie is actually a super talented badass who could make him rich down the line (because, shockingly, there's more to a person than their biology) he starts coming around again, because he figures Jamie might be worth something after all.

So James has Jamie on heavy-duty suppressants for years and years, which makes him build muscle and get rid of the ~omega look (sort of - he still has the hips, but there's not much you can do about that) and scent to the point that he can and does blend in with alphas and betas fairly well. He's extremely repressed and possibly closeted idk

• I think Roy kind of struggles with being an alpha in some ways, because even though he identifies with and is proud of the caretaking and protecting aspects of his identity, he worries a lot about whether he's like. Inherently too rough and Angry and dangerous to be around certain vulnerable people, especially Phoebe. Childrearing is not something alphas do a lot of, and he was never really taught anything about it, so he's constantly worried that he's going to do something horribly wrong or is ~infecting her with the worst parts of himself.~

• Also. Zava. This is the plot point I always imagine I'd write omegaverse for if I ever did. I normally think the whole Zava thing is boring but in A/B/O I could actually see it going somewhere interesting

Jamie as an omega is immediately put off by Zava, because he has like a built-in sixth sense for creepy alphas. But no one else detects it, because they're all alphas/betas, and they're just not as in-tune with that kind of thing. So Jamie tries to talk to the coaches about it, but they think he's just jealous because he's not the center of attention anymore and kind of brush him off.

Zava's constantly doing these little things that Jamie feels are obviously intended to make him feel like he doesn't deserve to be there or is less of an athlete than his teammates (petting his hair like a dog, stealing his goal, pretending he doesn't know who he is and thinks he's the kitman), but NO ONE else gets it and he just feels like he's losing his mind.

And then Zava calls Jamie over on the pitch to say something completely unimportant while rubbing his shoulders and smacking his ass, and Roy starts to pick up on the bad vibes because it was so obvious that Zava just wanted to prove to Jamie how much power he has over him in front of thousands of their fans, which makes Roy's skin crawl.

So that's how they start training together in this situation <3

Like, “Chad alphas” could say you need to go buck wild on the Axe so other alphas know what’s “your property” (which becomes yet another omega-repellent because of scent sensitivity). And man I'd feel a little bad for the betas thinking they have no desirable scent and trying to "make up for it" because of how much importance society places on alpha&omega scents (that tend to be slightly stronger, sure, but It's not like betas don't have scents!!) My own headcanon sort of separates scents into their own cathegories of like, there's the natural scent that's associated with pheromones, it's not the same as body odour from sweat, but also the pheromones are slightly different/separate in that pheromones can affect the qualities of the scent but not the actual scent itself? And then there's obviously body odour, and then on top of that, I think perfumes are often used to either mask or even enchance one's own scent. They'd probably be especially affirming for any transdynamic folks! But also I can imagine some people feeling like their natural scent should be sort of "private" or they just don't want people to pay attention to it, esp if it's very unique? so they'll use fragrances to change it somewhat. Also for people with weaker scents, it could be an insecurity so they'll use perfume to feel more confident?

Oh and I wanna talk more about my headcanon about the pheromone-natural scent relationship! I think pheromones are what cause and are affected by emotional responses, almost like having a sort of... "aura" or "energy" people can read? But pheromones so it's an actual thing. but I also imagine it could affect the actual scent a lot too! I'll use my own peony+peach combo to explain since I know it best, but for example, if I was angry or annoyed, the pheromones would probably make the scent appear slightly "sour", like a sour candy or a flower that's slightly past its best bloom but still emits a really strong scent that starts to smell almost a little "stinging"? Or if I was really content and happy, it'd be like freshly-bloomed peopny blossoms and sweet, perfectly ripe peaches.

Probably in heat the scent would turn more "warm" and "heated" as well as stronger, too, like sitting in a garden of peonies eating a peach dessert during a heatwave in the summer? (Also I just like using that analogy for my own scent a lot. Sitting in a Peony garden and eating peaches. Except in heat it'd be more like a heatwave and much stronger/warmer) Like almost a little overwhelming, but not necessarily in the same way that overusing axe body spray is overwhelming, more like... a heat-scent becomes sort of really thick and warm? And that's why it's so noticeable? Like so ripe it would be "tempting" or something, idk.

For example if someone's scent was "pine forest", and they went into rut, I imagine it'd also increase in intensity a lot. Like... maybe the scent of pine sap really intensifies and gets really "thick"? Or maybe it'd be like... if it rains during a heatwave so the smell is extra strong but also really warm. And maybe someone with a scent like that would smell more like a cold winter forest when they're irritated (which would also be a wonderful way to describe personality through scent- people whose scents turn "cold" and "wintery" being more likely to have that sort of stoic, cold anger than the more explosive hot-headed type bursts of anger...) and when they're content, it'd be like a camping trip in good weather somewhere deep in the woods where you feel safe and relaxed in nature?

Idk man I just like thinking about scents and how scents change based on pheromones & emotions........

I also think perfume could be used to permanently amplify some aspects of specific emotional states in scent. I imagine customer service workers or salespeople using a perfume that maybe doesn't change their scent, but makes them always smell really happy, inviting and nice for better sales results and a better customer experience (especially since I imagine customer service is probably still absolute hell, even in omegaverse... not like they'd actually be feeling very happy to deal with some Karens all day)

Or for people who want others to stay out of their way (bouncers, gangsters, idfk depends on the canon I imagine), they'd maybe use a perfume that makes their own scent always appear a little aggressive/stern, not in the challenging kind of way, but just so people get the idea that it's probably better not to mess with them

But also certain professions having bans on those kinds of things, or even requiring full on scent blockers to be used (especially prevalent in the medical field I imagine)... just. Yeah lots of thoughts on this!

as promised, the omegaverse worldbuilding!! i write a fair amount of omegaverse, but i don't think i've ever really explained how i personally think of it working? so i figured i'd write a post up. i'll edit all my omegaverse fics to have a link to this in the notes. also, if u like any of this and wanna use it in your own fics, feel free!! i'd appreciate a shout-out if u do but also u don't have to.

so first off, alphas/betas/omegas all occur in roughly equal proportions across the entire population. alphas and omegas, especially, tend to stay balanced with each other, but areas can have higher or lower numbers of betas compared to them. high-beta areas can be exclusionary to alphas/omegas (feel like they're too instinctive, heats/ruts are inconvenient, etc), while low beta areas can be exclusionary to betas (they can never really understand how the bond between omegas and alphas works).

general biology!! alphas go into rut, omegas go into heat. betas don't have to deal with any of that. generally people present around the age of 14-15, though younger/older is possible, just rare. alphas get their first rut, omegas get their first heat, and betas just get increased sensitivity to scent (more on that later). there are designated centers to help unpartnered alphas/omegas through ruts/heats, which includes when presenting. there's a pre-heat/rut phase that gives enough warning time to get to a facility if you need one. basically everyone gets on suppressants after initially presenting, which takes frequency of heats/ruts down from once a month to once a year.

alphas also have access to an alpha Voice. an omega will find it harder to resist an order given with an alpha's Voice, though not by too much. omegas can purr both on command and instinctively, both of which work to calm an alpha down, though again, it's fairly easy to ignore the influence. the effect of these increases if the pair is bonded. more on that later. betas aren't affected by Voices or purrs.

alphas are biologically wired to be more dominant/aggressive, while omegas are wired to be more submissive/passive. this is because biological determinism is fun when i can play with it in a kinky little playground :3. because of this, alpha/alpha and omega/omega relationships often have a natural give-and-take, where the dynamics between them shift frequently. that factor is part of the appeal of the relationship for folks who are interested in the same dynamic.

alpha!akira, on the other hand, is a fucked up lil weirdo bc i like to make him suffer :D. he's an alpha who likes submitting, and based on the universe and how i want to write them, is something that's either known but very uncommon, or completely unheard of. you can be transdynamic (in which case, similar stuff as exists for transgender folk in our universe exists), but akira is an alpha, just a submissive one. he doesn't want to be an omega, he wants to be an alpha who gets fucked by his boyfriend :3.

bitching (turning from an alpha into an omega without medical intervention) is generally not a thing in my universes. when it is, an alpha submitting to another alpha they're compatible slowly turns them into an omega. the more compatible they are and the more submissive the bitched alpha is, the faster the process goes.

…oooh you know what would be fun is a fic with omega akechi and alpha akira, but both bitching and…a reverse of bitching where omegas turn into alphas exist, so they switch dynamics. hm. i'll chuck that onto my ideas list. anyways back to bitching. before going into heat, the process isn't permanent. generally the bitched alpha no longer submitting to the other will stop/reverse it, but if they're compatible enough, it might still continue. physical separation is your best bet. alpha/alpha relationships in universes where this exist typically don't have to worry about this, since the dynamic switches frequently and even the submissive party is usually at least trying to fight back, or is only giving in grudgingly.

alpha afab folks aren't able to impregnate ppl, and amab omegas aren't able to get pregnant (unless it's a magic universe, but then literally anyone could impregnate/get pregnant bc of body-altering magic), bc they don't have the parts for that. for a while ppl thought alpha afab folks couldn't get pregnant and omega amab folks couldn't impregnate ppl, but that's actually not true! the issue with alpha afab folks getting pregnant is that their rut (or the suppressants they take to prevent it) also interfere with the hormone cycle that causes ovulation. for omega amab folks, being an omega interferes with their sperm, and means that the sperm don't move quick enough or live long enough to actually fertilize an egg. since afab alphas still have eggs, and amab omegas have sperm, though, even an afab alpha/amab omega couple could have a bio kid with ivf and surrogacy.

scents!!! everyone has a base scent, usually at least somewhat similar to their parents' but not always. when presenting, you develop the ability to smell emotions, not just someone's base scent, and start emitting emotion-based scent as well.

scents blockers can come in a few different formats. there are disposable patches—good for if you want to put them on or take them off quickly, and don't need them to last more than a day. they're what's most commonly used. there are also scent blocking clothes, most commonly scarves. these need to be retreated with the scent blocking chemicals after a period of time. finally, there's blocking gels, which can be used if you need to wear blockers for a while, patches are unpleasant sensory-wise, or if you want your neck bare but still have your scent blocked. gel is common in intimate scenes in tv/movies for that last reason!! scent blockers only need to be applied to the neck. there are scent glands in the wrists as well, but those only give off your base scent, not any emotional ones. blockers also only block emotional scents, not your base scent.

there are multiple situations where scent blockers are required. one is in school after presenting. this is partly to avoid overwhelming newly-presented teens and partly bc god, can u imagine going through high school and everyone around u can smell ur fucking emotions? nightmare material.

similarly, people working in customer service jobs almost always wear scent blockers, bc again, imagine working customer service, someone smells you're annoyed, and starts getting on your case about it. very high-end restaurants/shops actually require their employees not wear scent blockers, since it's a sort of bragging point that their employees are so well-trained/paid that they don't need them. there are pools/bathhouses which require scent blockers as well, since water can amplify smells.

since tvs can't transmit scent, folks on like, talk shows or interviews will usually wear scent blockers so they aren't responding to cues that the audience can't detect. it's less of an issue with tv/movies, since actors are used to communicating scent cues visually if the characters aren't wearing blockers. plus, scent blockers in general are often worn in professional environments.

finally, a degree of scent control is possible if you focus, though strong emotions can still slip through.

bonds!! there are two bonding glands, one on each side of the neck. betas don't have them. there has to be at least one bite to bond. bonds only go through if both partners want it. that said, heat/rut, drugs, alcohol, that sort of thing can all alter someone's willingness to consent to a bond, but don't stop the bond from actually going through.

there are five different kinds: single unreciprocated, single reciprocated, single-double, double unreciprocated, and double reciprocated. typically, only alpha/omega pairs can bond—if two people of the same dynamic try to bond, there's a hormone clash and the bond doesn't go through. however, this only applies to reciprocal bonds!! two alphas or two omegas can bond with a single or double unreciprocated bond. that said, since unreciprocated bonds have an inherent power dynamic, it still doesn't usually take since, as mentioned, both partners have to want the bond to go through. the vast majority of alphas aren't willing to accept a bond where they're always the submissive party, and the vast majority of omegas aren't willing to accept one where they're always dominant.

most common is single reciprocated: A bites B once, and B bites A once. the levels of bonding hormones are lower and balanced, since only one bonding gland is pierced and its reciprocated, so the two partners don't have to be very compatible. both partners can send thoughts/emotions to the other, but can't read the other person's mind at will. the omega will be a bit more susceptible to the alpha's Voice, and the alpha will be more easily soothed by the omega's purr. the bond can be broken, and while it does cause pain to both parties, it heals with time.

next most common is a single-double bond. A bites B twice, B bites A once. A can read B's mind whenever they want. B can send thoughts/emotions to A and recieve thoughts/emotions A sends to them, but can't read their mind. hormone levels are relatively high and unbalanced, so the two need to be more compatible than with a single reciprocated bond. if A is an alpha, B will be a lot more susceptible to their Voice, but can resist with a great deal of effort, and B will have a bit more control over A with their purr. if A is an omega, B will be a lot more controlled by their purr, and A will be a bit more susceptible to their Voice. the bond can still be broken, but it's very painful for the person who was bitten twice.

next is double reciprocated. A bites B twice, B bites A twice. both can read the other's mind at will, the alpha will be far more swayed with the omega's purr, the omega will find it much harder to resist the alpha's Voice. bonding hormone load is high but balanced, so pairs need to be more compatible than with a single reciprocated bond, but less so than a single double. while breaking the bond is possible, it's incredibly painful for both parties, and often leaves them unable to bond again.

next is single unreciprocated. A bites B once, B doesn't bite A back. Finally doing this gor the next fandom. Last one was a pain to do from my phone, so I was looking for a way or opportunity to make it easier.

As before, I will post screenshots of the results and give a brief opinion on each character not influenced by these results. Neither grants that it will be the final dynamics for my main writings.

My opinions are mostly based off personalities. I will make another posts based on ships and on other details if I see something interesting to talk about later.

I will start with characters I'm not very flexible about, they just fit too strongly on a dynamic (although I love the dynamic x personality conflict, but that's beyond the point of this)

For Alpha, Ikemen Vampire has: Leonardo and Theo

As for Omega, I only have Charles

More flexibly but I would still strongly go for Alpha: Vlad

Now, although I am very flexible and open for at least two dynamics with these, here are my main inclination gor other characters

Alpha: Napoleon, Comte, Jean, Vincent

Beta: Arthur, Dazai, Will, Mozart, Isaac (Mozart and Isaac also possibly being Omegas, but I ultimately decided for this)

Now, Faust is the only of the old characters I know very little about (although not the only one I haven't read), and I am quite torn between Alpha and Beta. Slight more inclined to Beta at the moment (why did I end up with so many Betas?)

As for vibes on the new guys: Galileo also as a Beta and Drake as an Alpha

I left Sebastian gor here because I have thoughts that indirectly concern him, mainly if humans have dynamics in this universe or if only vampires do.

Assuming he has, I couldn't decide in Alpha or Beta (a part of me says either transdynamic Beta or bidynamic, or maybe other type of nontrinary dynamic, but that's beyond the purpose of this post).

In the end, I would say Beta as well

I saved the protagonist gor last mostly for tradition, but there is no question Mitsuki is an Omega (although you could argument for Beta, and as said for Sebastian, I don't know if humans will have dynamics in my verse for this fandom)

For me alphas from the current grid will be: Marc, Pecco, Marco, Pedro, Brad, Maverick, Joan and Miller.

Betas: Franco, Raúl, Johann and Miguel

Omegas: Fermín, Jorge, Luca, Fabio Q. and Álex Rins.

And what about the rest? Depends on the day. Álex M. is either alpha or a beta, same as Fabio D (but I'm leaning more towards alpha lately).

Ai is either beta or omega in my mind. Same as Enea.

And the more I think about it, the more I see Somkiat as an alpha that most of the time passes successfully as a beta by his own decision. I also can see Franco as transdynamic in the sense he was born alpha but went under medical treatment to become a beta..

Other riders: Dani is omega. Vale, Aleix and Jorge Lorenzo are alphas. Taka is a beta. Casey and Dovi are also betas but so fucking done with the dynamics. And Lorenzo either beta or omega, but I lean towards omega for some reason

Truly!!!!!! I argue this is why betas are usually characterized as “the normal” ones, the ones with little to no instincts. It’s because they serve a purpose to alphas and omegas story-wise instead of being utilized as real characters. Betas are essential to omegaverse because they defy cisheteronormativity, but usually people don’t know what to do with that, so they nullify the dynamic altogether.

I’ve always loved the idea of exploring this trope within a dystopian context. Or just in a story from the eyes of a beta!!! For example, if omegas are pretending to be betas, then people would reasonably catch on because it’d be in the news or word of mouth. What would happen? Statistics of non-consensual acts would probably be FAR higher for betas than any other dynamic. That’s grim, but like….if people knew, they’d start targeting every beta as a chance to get one disguised omega. Would betas and transdynamics speak up about being used like this? Would betas still be viewed as the voices of reason or the “beta best friend” if people thought they were all omegas in disguise? Would the sexualization normalize such that by the third decade, in-fighting has distracted us from the core issue? How does healthcare, government, representation as a whole change for that society?

I’d adore seeing a fic that utilizes dynamics, and especially dynamic transness, in a way that critiques or boldly defies the norms we already see in written and real societies.

Ngl why is all the Trans Beta Adjacent rep literally just an Omega pretending to be a Beta?? Like I know the trope became popular from a Trans dynamic Beta but like not alot of people know they are Trans Dynamic, (which is fair). Like when they wrote the books they were still Identifying as an Omega pretending to be Beta and it wasn’t until a few years ago that they came out as trans beta- which good for them!! But I really wished people stopped using the trope for horny writing and instead went more in depth and started to differentiate Trans Dynamic Beta’s vs Omegas that have to pretend to be Betas.
