Space is one of my most important special interests; I could talk about the complexities of my feelings towards it for hours and, if you were to let me, I'd probably fall in love with you afterwards. YES omg yes. I've always believed that Keith would just kinda. Say shit? That's how I am in relationships, either I'm very shy or 100% in it for better or worse, and I think he'd be the same. Once he's gone through the pain of confessing (and Lance returns his feelings holy shit what-) then there's no reason for him not to say all the sappy shit, right?

On the flip side, Lance. Big family, lots of love, lots of laughter, and very little TIME. Lance grew up the youngest of 5, which is great until your siblings are all teenagers and working, and your parents are working, and you're 11 or so just trying to get someone to say "you're going to the garrison? Wow!" Lance loves his family. And they love him, always. But sometimes they don't say what he needs to hear. Sometimes they can't be there. So when Lance is feeling down, and his (new!!!!) Boyfriend starts playing with his hair. He melts. Or when Keith gives him that shell and tells him he has pretty eyes.

I also kinda headcanon that Lance doesn't know how to explain this. So after a few weeks of being together, he kinda starts like. Play-groaning and being like "oh my god, Keith, the sappiness, you're killing me" and Keith does not know how to interpret that. Why can't Lance just be honest too? Surely he has stupid sappy feelings, right? Lance would be all over Keith in affection, would have no problem saying I love you, would have no issue spending time with him...

But Keith says "man I never would've been able to lead this team without you" in a loving tone and suddenly Lance is blushing..? That's when Keith figures it out.

Anyways yeah Keith loves physical touch and just spending time together and every I love you is an oath to protect

And Lance is a sucker for words of affirmation, and really just any emotional support, and for him I love you is healing

I feel like Keith and Lance are both ND but in different ways. Keith is the kind of guy who would really like physical contact and words of affirmation as love languages. He's pretty good at telling Lance how he feels about him later in the series. He'd probably appreciate the lack of ambiguity and take things at face value/put trust in I love yous.

Meanwhile Lance grew up in a big family so they might not have had as much money. Receiving gifts was a really big deal for him growing up. I can imagine Keith giving Lance a cool blue shell he found at an alien market and being all confused, thinking Lance doesn't like it when he goes still. Like he wants to take it back and is disappointed that Lance doesn't like it. But he does, he's just a bit overwhelmed by the gesture. Trying to show why he thought getting some silly shell was a good idea, Keith meekly tells him to look at this pretty part of it, turning it over in Lance's hands, pointing out an opalescent part that's all different kinds of blues. Says it reminds him of Lance's eyes.

Lance says something like "How would you know what colour my eyes are" because eye contact is not Keith's forte, but there's no bite behind it, and Keith doesn't get the joke anyway, just looks nervous. Keith just says they're pretty, as if he couldn't not have noticed. Lance puts it down on his side table gently. Keith says "You don't like it?" Lance gives him a super tender kiss. They kiss for a while holding each other, and Keith hugs him, sighing with contentment into lance's shoulder. Says "Holding you feels like home" then Lance dies on the spot

summary = Her thing is linking arms. His thing is avoiding touch. For years, they’ve danced around it. Until one sleepy night when she finally reaches for him and finds that maybe he’s been hoping she would all along.

The case had finally broken. Not with a bang, but with the kind of exhausted silence that only came after too many days chasing shadows through a rural Midwest town. The unsub was caught. The paperwork signed. Another horror story catalogued and closed.

And now, the team was dragging themselves back toward the airstrip, the cold wind tugging at jackets and fraying what little energy they had left.

You were walking beside JJ, who you’d barely spoken to in three days, too many hours spent inside precinct walls, too many leads that went nowhere. The moment her elbow brushed yours, you naturally slipped your arm through hers and leaned against her.

She didn’t even flinch.

She just smiled tiredly. “You okay?”

You nodded. “Just ready to be horizontal for, like… seventeen years.”

JJ snorted. “Same.”

Spencer walked a few paces ahead, head ducked down slightly as he adjusted the strap of his bag. You caught yourself watching the way his shoulder rose and fell. The subtle tension he always carried right there. He looked tired, exhausted even.

Since Quantico. Since the first year of profiling classes and coffee fueled late night study sessions. Since sitting on a park bench with him after your first real field op, both of you too shaken to speak until you finally just leaned your head on his shoulder and whispered, “We did it.”

That had been the only time you ever touched him like that. He hadn’t pulled away. But after that, he told you gently, so gently that physical contact just wasn’t his thing. That he appreciated you, that he trusted you, but he wasn’t comfortable being touched. Nothing personal towards you, it's with everyone.

So you never did it again.

Not even your signature move - the arm linking. You did it with everyone else. Even Hotch, sometimes, when he was in a rare good mood and you were bouncing with post case energy. Hotch gladly even held his arm higher so you can hold it comfortably. Derek would always grin when you grabbed him. Garcia would squeal and twirl with you.

But Spencer?

You kept a careful distance. Even now, after years since you joined together, years after he told you to not take his words personally.

Even though you ached to reach for him. Sometimes to close the space, to show him that whatever this was between you two, it mattered more than what either of you were willing to say out loud.

You weren’t stupid. You knew you had a crush on him. And years after being a profiler you can tell he doesn't exactly think of you as a friend either. But you were also patient. And subtle. And maybe a little scared, too.

You boarded the jet, leaned your head against the window, and watched the sky shift from gold to blue to dark velvet.

By the time you landed and made it back to the BAU headquarters, it was past midnight. Everyone had peeled off quickly, with Derek leaving first, then JJ with a yawned goodbye, Garcia blowing a kiss as she disappeared into the elevator with hotch eagerly waiting to see Jack after the long case.

You stood in the hallway with Spencer, the hum of vending machines and flickering lights the only company.

“Are you walking?” he asked, shouldering his bag again.

You nodded. “Too keyed up to crash yet. You?” Your hands reaching to pay for your vending machine drink.

“I was going to stop at that bookstore on Jefferson in the morning. That's if we don’t get called in of course."

You smiled. “You still haven’t finished that obscure memory treatise, huh?”

He smiled back a real one, small and crooked. “I have. Twice. I just like the smell in there.”

You tilted your head. “You’re such a nerd.”

“You say that like it’s an insult.” He giggles stepping forward.

“It’s not. It’s an adorable fact.”

He didn’t look away.

And neither did you as you both started making your way out.

“So,” you said after a beat. “Wanna go together? If we’re free?”

“Sure,” he said too quickly. Then, quieter “Yeah. I’d like that.”

You walked side by side toward the building’s exit. Your footsteps echoed softly. The air outside was cool, city lights casting everything in silver and gold. You said something, probably a joke about Rossi falling asleep with his eyes open on the plane and Spencer laughed, this breathy little sound that always made your heart feel a size too small.

And then, without thinking, without planning, you reached out and looped your arm through his.

His entire body went still.

You froze.

“Oh,” you said quickly, already starting to pull back. “Sorry- I wasn’t- I didn’t think- "

But you didn’t get the chance to finish.

Because Spencer… didn’t let go.

His arm stayed linked with yours. Not stiff. Not cold. But delicate, like he was holding something breakable. His fingers brushed against the inside of your elbow.

You turned to look at him.

He was blushing.

He looked like he wanted to say something but couldn’t figure out what. And then he just smiled.

The tiniest, shyest smile you’d ever seen from him.

“I didn’t think I’d like this,” he said quietly, almost like he was confessing something.

You swallowed. Your heart was pounding.

“But you do?” you asked.

He looked down at your arms, still joined. His hand shifted slightly, fingers brushing yours.

“Yeah,” he said softly. “With you, I do.”

You didn’t say anything else for a while.

You just walked like that - two shadows under the streetlights, arms tangled, hearts full.

And maybe you’d never said it out loud.

Maybe the words hadn’t quite come yet.

But in that quiet space between heartbeats, between two people who’d always known they were different…

You both understood.

By the way friends, since I am being reminded that summer is here and therefore so is the heat, here are some reminders for you lot too!

1) active cooling, like an AC, does require you to remove heat and vent it somewhere else.

Nothing that does not vent hot air outside is going to provide active cooling, like magically making your whole room immediately colder

Never believe an ad that tells you you can instantly cool your space without a visible heat vent to outside they are lying

2) passive cooling absolutely does not. It’s slower, has a smaller radius, and is in general less effective, but also requires less energy

Things like filling all your sinks/bath tubs with cold water (or ice water for preference) will provide passive cooling

(You may have heard the term “heat sink” if you’re a computer nerd. Basically, same thing - you put the heat in your cold thing, your cold thing heats up, everything else cools down)

Depending on your humidity, you can do a lot of passive cooling with water - there’s a reason it’s our natural default, but it does require humidity less than 80-90%

(Because you need the water to be able to evaporate and leave)

Ice is, of course, king; if you have a freezer, make as much as you can ahead of the heat wave and keep it in water-tight containers for refreezing

If you don’t have a freezer, hotels have ice machines usually right by the elevators. Clearly you have a very good friend you need to drop off a charger for in the nearest inattentive hotel. Bring big pockets. For the charger.

Also, freeze dish cloths or small towels if you can, by lightly dampening and applying ice. This kicks ass for heatstroke on the back of the neck, so do at least 2 to have one refreezing while you use the other

3) if you sweatin’, you need electrolytes. This is why we’re told they’re specifically for work outs, but the truth is they are for sweat, because you lose salt and shit when you sweat

Get that hydralyte, whatever, and if you can’t immediately get your hands on proper official electrolytes, toss a salt packet like they have at fast food restaurants in your water

Normal water ain’t gonna cut it when you’re a sweaty spaghetti you must be seasoned

If you touch your tongue to the salt and it is wicked delicious, you are probably dehydrated. Add an extra salt packet or two

4) defy purity culture and spread your legs

For real

You lose a lot of heat through your grundle, and keeping your legs closed will trap that heat in your body. Open up and feel the cooling

Also applicable for arms etc be a starfish

5) do not fucking use your oven. Don’t.

Big hot appliance makes big hot home. If you can only possibly cook via oven, do it at night when it’s coldest and you can maybe get some cooler air by opening windows

Use the bbq outside, the microwave, the stove top, the air fryer, anything but your goddamn oven, but honestly? Maybe eat cold food. You will be cooled down

6) basements are OP, and anywhere you can lie on cold cement kicks ass until all your joints get fucked on by the hard cement

Pretty good for keeping water cold though. Stick it on basement floor

7) hydrate or die-drate

Seriously, we talked about electrolytes and shit, but I mean it. Drink more than you usually would, even if that means smuggling extra water bottles to your local drinking fountains and fill em

If your pee is orange you are dehydrated as hell

You can also eat wet bitches like watermelons to rehydrate yourself, slorp up the juice and if anyone complains tell them it is vital for your health

8) shade! Bring your umbrella, bring Big Hat, fuck the sun it is the enemy you wanna have something between yourself and it while you rest

Sunscreen also good but you do not want your head in the sun for long periods because sunstroke is a bitch and will sneak up on your ass

9) furries I am sorry this one is for you you NEED a fan in the fursuit and you NEED to take it off if you get tired or wanna nap

NEVER fall asleep in your fursuit in the summer, ALWAYS be prepared to get outta it in a hurry, and bring triple water or have a planned water stop

Inflatable folks too you are wearing a dinosaur or a pikachu not fur but that is still a goddamn closed environment and will also cook you

Manual fan, electrical fan, water bottles, ice packs are required for safe summer fun and probably also a shirt inside so you can go into ice cream store

10) con goers, save yourselves $15 and go to a dollar store or local equivalent and buy a cheap folding fan before the con

Bring it to dealers or panels or just out for the day you can buy fans at the con usually but they are marked up because they know you need it

Mark Grayson was the best roommate a broke college student living off-campus could ask for. He seemed… sweet, if a little guarded—the kind of guy you could trust to share a living space with. You never would have expected that he was a literal superhero... if he hadn't accidentally flown in through your window one night while your were stark naked in the middle of a little... self love. You definitely never expected him to stay.

When you decided to rent an off-campus apartment for college, you really weren’t trying to have a guy roommate, but when Mark Grayson answered your ad, you decided to give it a go.

He seemed… sweet, if a little guarded—the kind of guy you could trust to share a living space with.

And it turned out to be a pretty good decision on your part. Mark’s not the perfect roommate—he’s been known to leave a mess here and there, and you find yourself doing the dishes he leaves around more often than not, but in the grand scheme of things you could definitely do a lot worse in the roommate department.

Over the months that you’ve been renting together, you and Mark have become pretty good friends. When neither of you are buried in homework—and sometimes, even when you are—you have a blast kicking his ass at Mortal Kombat, or lying on the living room floor with him, watching some shitty B list horror movies over pizza and ice cream…

Because you’re both broke college students and you’ve yet to buy a couch.

But there’s still a lot you don’t know about Mark.

For example, where he disappears to after that weird pager sounds off… It’s not really your business—like, at all—but if you didn’t know any better you’d assume he has some weird government black ops job.

Hell, he’s come home beat to hell more than once. A lot more than once, to the point where you’ve started keeping a pretty robust first aid kit in the bathroom to patch him up when he drags himself through the door looking like he’s halfway to death’s doorstep. 

You’ve asked him a grand total of once, but… he made it very clear that it’s not something he can tell you about. Anything about. The look in his eyes was impossible to argue with, so you finished up his stitches and minded your own business.

Besides, it’s not like Mark stays hurt for long. You swear he must have some kind of mutant gene with how quick he bounces back.

Maybe he’s a superhero…

Ha. No. There’s no way you’d have a superhero for a roommate… they have like, headquarters, you’re pretty sure.

All in all, he’s a pretty great roomie, and you’d never do anything to jeopardize that.

Which is why, under no circumstances, do you… give yourself a little self care while he’s home. You’re not exactly known for cumming quietly, and you’re pretty sure you’d die if he heard you.

Partly because… you have an insane crush on him. A real crush, worse than when you were in high school awkwardly fumbling around romance for the first time.

Which you feel absolutely horrible about. 

The entire reason you wanted to avoid having a male roommate is because you were afraid of them catching feelings and making things weird, but here you are, pining over Mark Grayson like some teenager doodling hearts in her notebook.

But, Mark isn’t here right now, and you know he’s usually gone a while when he gets a message on that pager, so you finally have plenty of time to yourself to relieve the tension that’s been burning you up lately.

What you’re not aware of, however, is that while you’re going around your room lighting your scented candles and putting on some music to set the mood, a certain superhero is flying home, exhausted after stopping a whole ass plane crash.

So exhausted in fact, that when he finally makes it back to his apartment, he climbs in through the wrong window.

That’s how you find out that your roommate, Mark comic book nerd Grayson, is Invincible.

And that’s how he finds out what you look like naked, fingers between your legs in an intimate moment that was supposed to be private.

“Oh my god…” falls from his lips, and even though you can’t see his eyes through the lenses of his mask, you can feel them on you… 

Until he suddenly startles, entire body going rigid. “Oh my god. Shit, Shit. I’m in the wrong room. I am so fucking sorry. Shit.”

There’s no mistaking that voice. Even if you hadn’t been sure before he opened his mouth, there’s not a doubt in your mind that your roommate… actual superhero Mark Grayson… is standing in your candlelit room, trying—and failing—to not stare at your naked body while your best fuck me music is playing.

the op of that "you should restart your computer every few days" post blocked me so i'm going to perform the full hater move of writing my own post to explain why he's wrong

why should you listen to me: took operating system design and a "how to go from transistors to a pipelined CPU" class in college, i have several servers (one physical, four virtual) that i maintain, i use nixos which is the linux distribution for people who are even bigger fucking nerds about computers than the typical linux user. i also ran this past the other people i know that are similarly tech competent and they also agreed OP is wrong (haven't run this post by them but nothing i say here is controversial).

anyway the tl;dr here is:

you don't need to shut down or restart your computer unless something is wrong or you need to install updates

i think this misconception that restarting is necessary comes from the fact that restarting often fixes problems, and so people think that the problems are because of the not restarting. this is, generally, not true. in most cases there's some specific program (or part of the operating system) that's gotten into a bad state, and restarting that one program would fix it. but restarting is easier since you don't have to identify specifically what's gone wrong. the most common problem i can think of that wouldn't fall under this category is your graphics card drivers fucking up; that's not something you can easily reinitialize without restarting the entire OS.

this isn't saying that restarting is a bad step; if you don't want to bother trying to figure out the problem, it's not a bad first go. personally, if something goes wrong i like to try to solve it without a restart, but i also know way, way more about computers than most people.

as more evidence to point to this, i would point out that servers are typically not restarted unless there's a specific need. this is not because they run special operating systems or have special parts; people can and do run servers using commodity consumer hardware, and while linux is much more common in the server world, it doesn't have any special features to make it more capable of long operation. my server with the longest uptime is 9 months, and i'd have one with even more uptime than that if i hadn't fucked it up so bad two months ago i had to restore from a full disk backup. the laptop i'm typing this on has about a month of uptime (including time spent in sleep mode). i've had servers with uptimes measuring in years.

there's also a lot of people that think that the parts being at an elevated temperature just from running is harmful. this is also, in general, not true. i'd be worried about running it at 100% full blast CPU/GPU for months on end, but nobody reading this post is doing that.

the other reason i see a lot is energy use. the typical energy use of a computer not doing anything is like... 20-30 watts. this is about two or three lightbulbs worth. that's not nothing, but it's not a lot to be concerned over. in terms of monetary cost, that's maybe $10 on your power bill. if it's in sleep mode it's even less, and if it's in full-blown hibernation mode it's literally zero.

there are also people in the replies to that post giving reasons. all of them are false.

temporary files generally don't use enough disk space to be worth worrying about

programs that leak memory return it all to the OS when they're closed, so it's enough to just close the program itself. and the OS generally doesn't leak memory.

'clearing your RAM' is not a thing you need to do. neither is resetting your registry values.

your computer can absolutely use disk space from deleted files without a restart. i've taken a server that was almost completely full, deleted a bunch of unnecessary files, and it continued fine without a restart.

This has been one of the longest passion projects I’ve worked on, and I’ve LOVED every second. ⚔️ MUSIC ⚔️ I’ve always yearned for a Phantom of The Opera style orchestration of this song. In late 2023, I pitched the idea to my favourite instrumentalist and multi-talented friend, Kāru. The moment he started working on the orchestration, I knew it was going to be magic. PS. can you hear those church bells ringing in the background? because church... it’s in the name. Finger-guns. Wink. On the vocal end of things, I had written into the very bones (haha) of the vocal arrangement to have a HUGE worship-style gospel choir alongside the leads. I experimented with three different live-choirs before finally landing on Itunu whose sound I truly, truly loved. I had the best time ever recording the leads for this song, and even though I always love the process of recording and arranging vocals, this holds a very special place in my heart. Hozier is truly an artist like no other, and he’s my absolute favourite lyricist of all time so it was just a pleasure and a half to work on this.

Who are your characters without their powers?

I *love* this trope. Love it. I don’t care if the “depower your super” is cliché, it is necessary for the audience and for you as the creator to understand who they are and what choices they will make when their super-powered support system has vanished.

And I love it in its basest form: A character is used to having x ability, whether it’s super or not, and suddenly it’s gone. It could be a mutation, but it could also just be their own health and mobility. Who are they when something they took for granted is now barred to them by the limitations of their own mind and body?

Of course it’s at its most fun when it’s somebody like Superman trapped on a planet with a red sun(?) where he’s basically human and has to be resourceful in ways he never needed before.

But I just adore it beyond superheroes and I’ve got one OC in particular that I want to talk about.

Bel was, in a few ways, inspired by Superman of all characters—and I’m not a Supe fan. He’s a solarkinetic alien empath and basically has god-level abilities to decimate a small town if he tries hard enough, all powered by sunlight, and a survivor-guilt driven imperative to live by the mantra “If I can, then I must, because if I don’t, then all the bad things are my fault”.

He's very very OP. But with that comes some space-war shenanigans and the opposition’s many ways to depower him, benignly and very painfully, as his whole race is a very rare and very appealing barrel of living weapons ripe for the conscripting.

So Bel is also very used to being nerfed and has learned a long time ago how to get by without any of his powers, and the side effects of losing them. He never has a “omg what do I do who am I when I’m powerless” moment. He gets hit and gets right back up with a knife and a kick to the teeth, and he fights dirty.

But he also has a crippling fear of being useless, so while he’s not incompetent when he’s powerless, he thinks he’s incompetent when he’s powerless and that his team, annoyed by how (rarely) he gets nerfed, won’t want him around anymore, and desperately tries to make up for his perceived shortcomings while god-mode is on a cool-down.

Which results in him obliviously being really, really good at anything he touches, self-deprecating and forcing modesty about it, and losing sleep chasing multi-talented perfection. And that is what annoys his team.

He’s got a whole bunch of other abilities I won’t detail here, but in one of his later bouts of being nerfed, he’s also sick from too much stress while the enemy invades their base and it’s just him and two of his un-powered teammates. He can’t fistfight the bad guys if he tried—and he normally doesn’t anyway—so he’s doing things to help build defenses and buy them time, and he has to sit there and do long-division by hand because his magic calculator is gone.

He can’t run, so he hides in an homage to the raptors in the kitchen scene from Jurassic Park, and has to resist sneezing to alert them. He can’t spam his alchemy, so he’s mixing ingredients with a hodgepodge of measuring cups and spilling things because he’s sick and tired and frustrated. He can’t fight, so he pulls the fire alarm and goes Home Alone on their asses with homemade chemistry bombs, fire foam, strobe lights, and motor oil. The same character that can kill someone with just a look.

He's a character that I started writing about 10 years ago now, and at the time and even now, I just don’t see many like him, who are mentally and emotionally, not just physically reliant on their powers, but who are dangerously and misguidedly dependent on them (and not a raging asshole when they lose them). I want more imposter syndrome in my OP heroes.

Again, not a huge Superman nerd, but in the shows and animated movies I’ve seen him in, he might doubt himself, but he doesn’t go on a self-destructive insomnia spiral trying to make certain that everyone he cares about isn’t just using him for his powers (but also if they are that’s totally fine because thinking people can like him just for him is naïve and childish).

Shoutout to Queen’s Gambit, Beth’s genius and addiction is the closest I’ve seen to what I’m looking for here.

But beyond super powers, I love subplots like:

Character broke their hand, and while it’s in a cast, they have to learn how to do basic things all over again. How frustrated do they get, and how does this loss of ability impact their perception of themselves, and their perception of their relationships?

Character is just getting older, they can’t run like they used to, pick up their grandkids like they used to. Do they lose hope or appreciate what they can still do? Do they give up or decide to exercise so they can have their youth for a little bit longer?

Character quit their passion after a passion-ending injury. Maybe they can’t perform at their previous capacity, but do they become a trainer instead, or a bitter old has-been?

Some are of course more permanent and inevitable than others.

But I really love it also when characters just have to perform menial tasks with difficulties they’ve never had before. Not stopping bank robbers. Not throwing cars.

Stuff like, your super-strength is gone, and now you can’t open a jar of pasta sauce for dinner. Your super-hearing is gone, and now you need subtitles. Your night-vision is gone, and now you need a flash-light. Your super-speed is gone and you never got a license, now you need a taxi or the bus. Your immortality is gone, and now you need to figure out how to cook for yourself, and take a nap before you collapse. Your super-healing is gone, and now you have to both put on and eventually tear off a Band-Aid, and take a Tylenol.

And usually it’s just a gag, something to laugh at like “ha ha they can’t open a pickle jar” but I want to see it played straight. If they throw a fit over not being able to open a pickle jar, it’s not about the pickle jar.

This shit makes us human and while stopping bank robbers makes for a more exciting story, that’s showing us who the hero is without their powers. I want to see who the regular old human is without their powers.

GENUINELY ONE OF HUMANITY'S BEST PIECES OF LITERATURE???? fuck. i never have the proper words for this fic, but it is SO gripping and the worldbuilding is so tight and their relationship development is so good and the CLIMAX OF THIS HAS BEEN MORE EPIC THAN HALF THE BLOCKBUSTERS I'VE SEEN. i beg you to read this even if you have never watched Pacific Rim. or maybe go watch the movie and get EDUCATED and then read this! i'm begging you, dear reader!!

vii. 'Ingenium' - crandberrycrush

guys i love sci-fi sorry lol. this one is another brilliant fic. OP put so much blood, sweat and tears into research and it shows, it is just very intelligent and the plot itself is HEART RACING and GUTTING and THRILLING. there's a lot of POVs and it really fleshes it out, tho ofc bkdk is the main thing. happy ending obvi! it is the space/astronaut drama that i love and adore, just BKDKified now!

viii. 'The Magic in a Mirror' - totallyrottentomatoes

oh how surprising, a totallyrottentomaoes fic in my faves list. anyone who knows me knows that i rec this fic all the time. it's one of my all time favourites, if not my favourite of all time lol, and it's really because of the writing and the imagery and the characterisation and the relationships b/w all the characters. it's all just so well done and MAGICAL. no joke, if i could print and bind a fic into a book, it would be this one. no notes. perfection. caters to my tastes so specifically. i could go on about this fic forever but i'll shut up for now

also highly recommend 'The Distance Between Suns' by this author - it's a high fantasy epic with TIGHT AS FUCK worldbuilding, brilliantly written, the romance is BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN, the payoffs are amazing, etc... this deserves to be published and revered

ix. 'Battle of the Bands' - roadtripwithlucifer

look i know i always rec this fic, i just can't help that it's like my favourite thing ever. roadtripwithlucifer and totallyrottentomatoes my BELOVEDS. the humour in this fic is so fucking yummy and brilliant, the writing is gorgeous in typical roadtrip fashion, the stakes are gripping, the climax is thrilling, the romance n yearning is INTENSE, the sex is hot as hell, the ending is so satisfying, just..... the whole package.

and while you're here, read other roadtripwithlucifer works like 'Nothing Else Fills' if you feel like destroying your heart :) an angsty and beautifully written time-travel-to-save-my-kacchan-gone-wrong war AU fic. i love OP's works but her more recent fics (eg. after battle of the bands) have had some of her best writing. i adore it when you can feel how an author has poured their soul into their work, you can always feel it in a roadtripwithlucifer work and it's just the cherry on top

x. 'Scar Tissue' - Loriqod

loriqod is another author with a characterisation that i fuck with so hard... this one was so full of that Yearning and Tension that i so vibe with. bonus points to the plots focus on bkdk's scars like yes pls more of that <3

It's about Discord, and why I can't join any OP fandom Discord (yet). I will one day. For now, I think I'd be a bit overwhelmed if I do join.

First thing I want all my mutuals, followers and everyone to know is that everyone here is amazing. Genuinely. You all are awesome.

I can't join Discord for OP fandom yet because of the bad experiences in another Discord in another fandom. They weren't FULL BLOWN bad experiences, but damn, did they make me annoyed.

In short, my friends from that fandom watch One Piece. And they were great and supportive, and we have a thread for One Piece in that Discord server for ourselves. Those friends did not spoil anything for me.

And then I got to Dressrosa, and I typed a lot about Doflamingo cus I loved him more and more.

But my friends... They hate him. Okay, that's fine, I can ignore that. Surely if I respect that they hate him, they can respect that I like him?

(the answer to them for that was no)

They were like "just wait till you see Law's backstory with him, you'll hate him then" etc etc. And that was fine, okay.

Saw Dressrosa Takeover, saw Law's backstory. I mean, yeah, that shit is dark, but what do you expect? It's Doflamingo.

They wanted me to hate him. And after that, after I didn't hate him, but liked him even more, with every damn time I wrote something I consider awesome from Doflamingo, they switched to insulting the character I like.

I never go insulting characters they like, but god they kept doing it for Doflamingo. I got tired of it and just stopped talking about One Piece overall with them. Even with fics I wrote in the "writing thread" they nitpicked them, said "that wouldn't work like that, etc etc" and just... Killing the fun of it? Like... What the fuck.

I want to make clear, these were individuals. Other people were cool with it and ENCOURAGED it.

And of course every time I go "I love Doffy" these individuals come up with an insult for him. So yeah, I dipped. They couldn't respect my like for a character and not be at least considerate enough not to talk shit about him. At first, fine, but it started getting overbearing and fckn annoying. Like, a lot.

I hate plenty OP characters but I would never, EVER think of if I see someone enjoy that character of bashing that character, little less on their thread/Discord/tumblr blog. It would NEVER even cross my mind. Why the hell would I want to do that to someone? Hell, I'd ENCOURAGE them to continue enjoying what they enjoy. Bcs if a character makes you happy, and makes it fun, then why tf would I ever try to ruin that for someone?

It just makes me sick how these individuals (who I still consider friends, I don't think they genuinely meant it to come off as them trying to police me or anything, they said it was getting annoying but like he's one of my fav characters of course I'll talk about him a lot that's what you do with favourite characters they don't go on a rant if I rave about Luffy or Law or Cora) were actively commenting how I shouldn't like this character like it would make me like him less?

Sorry I like interesting, evil, demonic character with an iconic laugh and who is one of the top five antagonists in the most popular manga and was in Top 20 characters in the popularity poll? Like... Wtf.

Anyway, yeah... That's the reason I made this blog (there were 100% other reasons like being a nerd and calculating One Piece things 🤣). I needed a safe space to simp over Doflamingo, the Donquixote Family, Dressrosa and everything. And I'm genuinely so happy to have met fellow Doffy fans on here.

what horror games I would recommend playing with the Boys!

I'm a BIG fan of survival horror and action horror games. They’re like the only other type of games I play besides otome 😆 Also, two of my favorite series are coming out with new games in the next few coming months so I’m HYPED

So with that being said, imagine chillin with the boys, deciding to wile away the hours playing some games together, what are some games I would recommend to them?

Xavier:

I would recommend the Alan Wake/Remedy series. Remedy’s biggest games such as the Alan Wake games and Control are so intricately woven together into this big universe that is so fascinating and fun to piece together. I can imagine Xavier enjoying how in depth the plots are with their loops and spirals and many dimensions. Plus Alan Wake II is AMAZING and I can see him vibing with its darker tone 😎

I can also picture him liking the Amnesia games for their creepy Lovecraftian tones and storylines. Mouthwashing too, maybe? Maybe also the Dead Space series and Alien Isolation.

Rafayel:

tho I can’t see him being a huge gamer, there are a couple of series I’d recommend to him. First would be the Layers of Fear games, especially the first one. Not only would it be funny seeing him get spooked by the jump scares, but I think he’d appreciate the homage to classic art and find it fascinating how the artist’s sanity is slowly spiraling.

Another series I’d recommend is the Little Nightmares games, mainly for its unique, macabre art style. I think he’d enjoy them. Plus the third game is coming and it looks like a co-op, which I bet he’d find fun to play with you!

Zayne:

Okay soooo.. maybe this is just my bias coming through, but I would so want to play the Silent Hill series with him 😆 I mean, what a coincidence that most of the games have a hospital level in them! And it’s usually the scariest part of the games lol

Of course, I’m mainly referring to the first four games (SH2 remake included), and maybe Shattered Memories for the cold vibes lol Silent Hill F would also be a must. As someone whose life revolves around helping the sick and hurting, I think the stories of the main four games would really affect him. It would be quite interesting to see what his reaction could be… especially regarding Silent Hill 2…😐

Also, I just thought of this, but for a more lighthearted play through, he might enjoy Until Dawn, not just for the wintry aesthetic but I can imagine him amusedly eye-rolling at the teen’s antics yet also working hard to keep them all alive lol (and the sanatorium section is by far the best part of the game, and he might find it thrilling)

Sylus:

Sylus is another one I’m not all that sure on, but he seems to enjoy FPS games, so he might find the F.E.A.R series interesting. Also the Condemned games might be compelling to him, since you’re hunting a serial killer in a crime-infested city.

But one game I do think he’d really enjoy is Bloodborne. With its gothic tones, weird monsters and difficult gameplay, I bet he’d jump at the challenge to beat it. And I could totally see him becoming an expert at it lol

Resident Evil series. 100%. A perfect mix of action and horror that I totally see Caleb getting invested in. I can imagine 4 being his favorite (OG or remake, doesn’t matter which) and Leon being his favorite character 😆 can’t you just picture him quoting Leon’s one-liners? He totally would, the big nerd 😂

Also think he would like Dead Space and Alien Isolation. Maybe the game Soma as well (though that might hit too close to home lol) Could also potentially see him enjoying Until Dawn if you play it together lol

The game will be $50 (they were aiming for $40 but didn't make it) and is co-op but also one player. the game contains 12 dice, 2 books, 5 character sheets, like 40 cards, 6 minis (for painting if you like), tokens and a rulebook. the game will also be available in Spanish. the game includes calibrations hh. they hope to release in "Novemberish"/Q4. it also sounds like they plan to create expansions for it!

it sounds like everyone who played the game at Gen Con during the demos loved it! co-designer of the board game Calvin Wong Tze Loon (who designed things such as abilities and lore for it) shared some insights about the creation of the game, and the feedback folks who played it at the con had, on Twitter:
