I found this cool #commemorativestamp honoring the #150thbirthday of #ukrainiancomposer #mykolalysenko the founder of #ukrainianclassicalmusic #lysenko composed music for piano, voice, and chamber music, but is perhaps best known as an #operacomposer His most famous work is the #opera #tarasbulba the opening melody of which is printed on this #postagestamp This opera, which is about a #ukrainiancossack rebellion in the 17th century was beloved by none other than #petertchaikovsky who knew and admired Lysenko. Swipe left to hear #myperformance of the melody printed on this #beautifulstamp My colleagues and I will perform Lysenko’s string quartet on a #benefitforukraine concert at the @hillwoodmuseum in Washington DC which will also be live streamed. Proceeds will go to @wckitchen Here’s the link for tickets which is also in my description: https://secure.hillwoodmuseum.org/25354/30289 #beautifulstamps #миколалисенко #violinsoloist #тарасбульба #тарасбульбафестиваль #опера #ukrainianopera #ukrainerefugeesupport #violinfun #pitorchestralife #operamusician (at Washington D.C.) https://www.instagram.com/p/CcnJ46huXzZ/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

10 Questions w/ Composer Matthew Recio! (Full version via Patreon link in bio.)⁣ ⁣ 1. WHAT DO YOU DO? I am lucky to say that I am the resident Vanguard Emerging Opera Composer with the @chicagooperatheater! I'm also an adjunct aural skills instructor at Saint Xavier University. Chicago Opera Theatre is molding me to have a career as an opera composer through masterclasses, mentorship, score study, attending operas & conferences, and sitting in on all of our production rehearsals. This all culminates in an 90-minute long opera commission. I'm working on two separate projects: one with @stephaniefleischmann and the other with @rvavrek. This job is truly a dream come true! ⁣ ⁣ 8. WHAT PART OF YOUR WORK DO YOU WISH YOU WERE BETTER AT? I think it's something all composers work on, but the ability to keep complexity simple. How can you create an incredible effect while ensuring the written music is digestible? Is there an easier way, or does this piece require complexity in the notation psychologically? When composers are younger, we're so concerned with creating the "new" sound that digestibility is put aside. When you're on the budget and timeline of a professional company and have limited rehearsal time, it's essential to find a way to create a unique sound in a way that people can access quickly. ⁣ ⁣ 10. IF YOU WERE A PRIZE FIGHTER, WHAT SONG WOULD PLAY WHEN YOU WALK IN THE RING? I've never thought about this one! Definitely something I can shake my butt to. It is essential. It can either go Tempo by @lizzobeeating or Walking on Broken Glass by @officialannielennox... both are bops.⁣ ⁣ Thanks, Matt!!⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ⁣ #chicago #music #artistsofinstagram #chicagooperatheater #opera #operacomposer #tenquestionsseries #matthewrecio #ithacacollege #jacobsschoolofmusic #indianauniversity #classical #classicalmusic #classicalcomposer #musician #musiclife https://ift.tt/39MdqYQ

“Carmen”
