call him sentimental, but the day his wife dies, he goes to the place she perished to reflect, to wait for her. she will wake again but whether or not she'll show herself to him remains to be seen. ( she hardly did so much when she had no choice. ) it's there as he settles by the bed that he finds the book. strange, how he's never seen it before. if such a handbook was to be left behind for any new resident of the astral plane, he should have seen it half a decade ago following his own death and frankly, many other times since. what did it mean that it was here now?
between the pages is a business card for a bio-exorcist. what a threatening concept. he pockets it and steals the book, does what little research he can with the help of mercedes and then... hesitates. he waits years following the countess's death before he repeats the strange name thrice in his suite, the one untouched room in the newly renovated hotel.

Jade had just finished teaching her second-period history class. This one is world history, and it's early enough that students are alert, but not so late that they're burned out. As the students filter out she hands them homework, just a reading, and a video.
Then, she stops a student. Lydia had been an interesting addition to the class, always quiet and perking up at the mention of death. It reminded Jade of herself a little over a decade ago. "Could you stay for a moment?" Her voice was soft, so as not to alert the other students that she was talking to Lydia. Children loved to gossip.

“I’ll summon you on one condition--” Oh this was going to be sad-- But Stanford had pretty limited options. He let out a sigh, glancing at the spectral being before finally speaking again.
“Be my friend.” He blurted. It was really a simple request. He didn’t want to know much about life after death-- nor did he care what happened when one died. That was so far off. No-- he wanted a friend. He hadn’t managed to make any thus far here at Backupsmore and was desperate for someone to talk to.
The curse of being part of a duo and suddenly finding oneself an uno. He wanted companionship, that was all.

otherguide asked: jean + why she puts up with patrick so much
send me a topic to write a meta about my muse on. / if i ever stop accepting this meme just assume i died.
oh, boy !!
i haven’t read the novel in a long, long time. but i do remember it consistently refers to her as jean, my secretary who is in love with me, and that’s… true. while you can argue that she only loves an idea of him ( which is true, she doesn’t have a single clue about the ‘real’ patrick ), she thinks she knows him and thinks his air of mystery isn’t hiding something malicious but rather something sweet. you can hear this in ‘a nice thought’. jean thinks patrick has something that sets him aside from the other egotistical narcissists in this community but she doesn’t know what it is. and having feelings for him, she wants to believe it’s something very good-hearted and wants to bring that out in him.
jean’s such a sad case because making less money and being so humble and family-oriented, she does get kicked around a lot. not just by other people at p&p but also by him. i think she can tell when he’s making a low blow but tries to make the best of it or make light of it. “you’re prettier than that” / “thanks for the compliment, patrick”. and she’s very obedient of it too considering when she comes in with long pants and shoes, he specifically states she should wear a skirt and heels because he likes that. and she does it! and she gets complimented on it, and that’s her validation. her progress. that’s her little glimmer of hope for something good to come and her feelings to maybe not be so hopeless, even though he’s being blatantly superficial.
it’s a very, very unhealthy case no doubt even without the aspect of patrick being a murderer simply because she’s only choosing to see what she wants to see. and it’s not in a way that’s selfish or rude, it’s trying to ignore remarks made at her expense. she’d love to know more about him beyond them because she doesn’t know what more would end up entailing. she has a very, very kind heart and is generous and honest to her core, and that can result in her being a bit of a push-over with patrick, even if he is shown to care sometimes in his ‘own way’.

Peter grunted softly at the grab of his shirt. "Yeah. No shit. Being invisible sucks. You get used to it Beetlejuice." He sighed again.
peter / @the-galaxy-savers.
Peter stops and steps backs. “I don’t ‘gotta’ say it.” He sighed. “You also don’t need it dude. Plus, what is saying your name gonna do? Explain a little please.”
“I NEEEED IT.” He almost drops to his knees to beg, but manages to just grab hold of Peter’s shirt instead. “I am so tired of being invisible! Saying my name sets me free. People will be able to SEE ME. You don’t know what it’s like to spend, like, three hundred years completely alone. I’ll do anything, c’mooooon.”

“Sorry kid, I’m not taking clients right now and you’re way too young,” Oliver said, filling out paperwork at the reception of his tattoo parlor. It was preferable to being home, where he was constantly reminded of his sister’s absence. It hadn’t even been a week since she died, and he barely knew what he was doing anymore.
This kid looked young enough to be one of Jade’s students, hell she probably was one. “You should probably go home.”

— ELDEN RING
Tags: ⚔ ► v: arise ye tarnished. ( ' elden ring ' )
Atreus is not the Tarnished, merely a tarnished who is going through his own struggles in the Lands Between. He has no desires to become Elden Lord.
— BIO
If you asked Atreus what his story was he would simply tell you that he was a soldier and he did what soldiers had to do. He had fought and killed for a man he had sworn fealty to and now he had no Lord and carried no oaths. For the most part that story is correct. He leaves out the innocent he slaughtered at the word of his Lord—the man he so blindly believed in. He left out the part where he was fuelled by the lust of battle and the spilling of blood, chasing the next high and challenge to get even the smallest bit of praise. Atreus was relentless, merciless and he lived to serve. That was his purpose. Renfry wanted to be Elden Lord, Atreus his loyal guard—his knightthat was the promise given to him to stand at his side as his sword and shield. Atreus didn't know any better. He believed Renfry when told that the villagers were traitorous. He believed him when he went to battle to remove a threat or an enemy. He didn't know that the treasured words of the Golden Order had been twisted to suit a personal agenda. He was taught not to ask questions, he was taught to obey. It was not his place. But it had always been like this, born into a family indebted to another and given away for a life of servitude no one taught him otherwise. It was simply obey. Obey, obey, obey and don't look at the mountain of bodies at your feet. Atreus was a good soldier. Obey, obey, obey do not hesitate in your duty. That is your purpose, that is what the Greater Will has chosen for you. Atreus believed in it all, hanging off every word. He believed so much that he was all but torn asunder when Renfry betrayed him. Atreus didn't know that the Grace had long since abandoned Renfry, he didn't know how his friend—his lord—coveted the Golden Light that Atreus could still see and he would do anything to try and obtain it.. Atreus hadn't meant to kill him. He was just defending himself in the struggle but he was far more accomplished than his Lord when it came to feats of strength. And then Atreus fled. He knew not of Renfry's fate, he didn't even know if he was revived. All he knew was that he had to leave because there was no possible way that he could stay. Atreus became lost, desperately searching for a purpose, prayers falling on deaf ears. He was alone with only the faint fading light of Grace which, too, had begun to abandon him and more questions than he would ever get answers for. The one thing he knew for certain was that he wanted nothing to do with this mantle of Elden Lord—it had only brought him pain.
— OTHER
Guidance of Grace. However faint it may be the Golden Light of Grace still lights Atreus’ path.
Immortality. Immortality not by choice but by the power of the Great Will like most Tarnished. It is not a blessing, but a curse. Killing him will only annoy him, but go ahead.
Atreus wields the Great Épée Rapier with Royal Knight’s Resolve Ash of War.

Jade is on high alert. She had gotten a text from Ash, Lydia had been spotted with a vampire. Unidentified, but it was always easy to assume that they worked for Juno. The hunter walked at a brisk pace, stake hidden under her jacket, doing her best not to draw any attention to herself. Public panic was a bitch to deal with.
Eventually, she found the younger hunter. “Lydia!” She rushed to her side, breaking at least three rules she had told Lydia about situational awareness the day before. Worry did that to a person. “Are you okay?” It registered, maybe a moment too late, that she should probably look for the vampire she had very specifically been warned about.
She whipped her head around, spotting the only other person in the vicinity, her hand shooting to the stake at her hip. She didn’t attack, yet, she wasn’t her brother after all, but that didn’t mean she wasn’t prepared. “And who might you be?”
