Notes: The diversity of this album’s influences is honestly astounding. It covers a range of progressive topics, and even features Erykah Badu, whose relationship with André 3000 was a partial inspiration for the track “Ms. Jackson”. Other covered topics include the Iraq War, misogyny, misconceptions on rap as a genre, teenage pregnancy, and sexuality. This album also marks a transitional period, where André 3000 began to lean away from straight-rap and experiment with his vocals. This shift only grows more obvious in later albums, with Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (2003), two solo albums released as a double album, belonging to Big Boi/André 3000 respectively. Overall, their flows are great, the beats are solid, and the tracks are well produced.

Would I Recommend?

I don’t know anyone who could listen to this album and not recommend it. It fits in that sweet spot in Oukast’s discography- with André and Big Boi still working closely together, but also using a variety of experimental sounds.
