oh also I wanted to mention a lot of why I can do the webcomic is bc my job is remote and really lax in the sense that I can set my own hours and I’m at my desk all day and can kinda doodle when things are slow. And like.. whatever else can be said about the company or the work itself (lack of health insurance, low pay that means I can’t afford to move out..) I’m also so grateful for that aspect of it being relatively low effort just like..mentally. When I was still working at Walmart or some other places, I’d be too mentally drained to draw most days when I got home, even putting aside how physically draining that job was (most days I’d come home shaky because they’d stick me in the heaviest depts like drinks frozen or chemicals ugh) like …I don’t do well with being in public for so long and my brain would be too fried to do much besides lay in a dark room and try to recharge my Brain Power shdjdjdk I have no idea if that makes sense. Mental illnesses. but I’m so grateful for the job I have now (I..had a bad string of jobs right before it, lol) it’s not my passion and given what field it is it prob won’t last forever, but it happened at just the right time for me to WANT to make a comic and also be able to be well enough after my shifts to draw most days which is exciting!!! It’s like it was… idk, very good timing and really lucky. Esp after working it for over a year now I’ve really found my groove with it, I’ll prob be really sad if I have to do a job that’s not so remote in the future. I feel kind of spoiled on this one 😭

So, your friend had just abandoned you.

In the pouring rain.

At nine o’clock at night.

In the parking lot of a coffee shop.

She would argue that she had left you for a very good reason, and maybe she was right. She was only trying to help you (or, rather, force you) to get to know the supremely attractive owners of said coffee shop, but...

She didn’t have to leave you here with a car which wouldn’t start!

Just because you were utterly annoyed (and also kind of panicking), you called her again. You would beg and yell, if you had to, to get her to turn around.

But it went straight to voicemail.

How lovely.

You closed your eyes and tilted your head back, letting it thud against your headrest as you let out a shaky breath through your mouth. 

Objectively, you knew this situation really wasn’t that bad.

It’s not like you were stuck in the middle of nowhere with a non-starting car. You were just in the parking lot of a coffee shop, and even though it had officially closed five minutes ago, you knew the owners were still inside.

But still.

You had been thoroughly embarrassed in front of Ji Soo earlier, and now you had to go in and face him again? By yourself? And ask for help?

Even if you asked Joo Hyuk, it would still be embarrassing!

You didn’t like this. You didn’t like this at all, but you really had no other option.

Unless you wanted to call a tow truck and spend way too much money just for a ride home.

You could also just call a taxi, but you would still feel weird leaving your car here overnight... and you would still have to spend too much money just for a ride home.

So, begrudgingly, you reached back for your jacket. You put it back on. And you got back out of your car.

Your heart started to pound inside your chest as you trekked back across the parking lot and up to the front entrance of the shop, but you didn’t hesitate to reach out and knock timidly once you got there. The rain had yet to let up, so you wanted to get back inside as soon as humanly possible.

Even though they had already turned the outside lights off, you could still see inside the shop very clearly. So you saw when Ji Soo paused as he wiped down a nearby table, his head lifting to meet your gaze.

His brow furrowed immediately when he saw you, and he quickly strode up to the door. He unlocked and opened it, stepping aside to let you in.

“You’re not here to rob and murder us, are you?” he asked as he closed the door behind you.

You tried to laugh at his joke. You really tried. But all that came out of your mouth was a very strangled, very awkward almost-chuckle.

This was not off to a great start.

“Uh... no, I -- I’m actually -- car troubles,” you explained. “My car won’t start, and my friend already left, and nobody else is out in the parking lot.”

“Oh, shit,” Ji Soo murmured, but then he quickly shook his head. “I mean, shoot -- no, fuck it, it’s fine. Oh, shit.”

Well, you couldn’t very well keep yourself from laughing at that now, could you?

“I would just ask for a battery jump,” you said with a breathy giggle. “But --”

“It’s fucking pouring out there,” Ji Soo interrupted.

“Okay, it just wasn’t necessary that time,” Joo Hyuk called out from behind the register.

Ji Soo just rolled his eyes, otherwise completely ignoring his friend’s scolding. “Do you want me to give you a ride home?” he asked you, furrowing his brow adorably.

“I am so sorry,” you lamented, feeling your throat closing up just a little because you felt like such a burden and why did Jane have to abandon you like this?! “I know it’s asking a lot, and I don’t want to cause any trouble --”

“No, no, it’s no trouble at all,” Ji Soo assured you. “Give me just a second, okay?”

You nodded, waiting until he’d turned and left before taking a deep breath. Everything about this situation was giving you anxiety; you needed to calm down as much as you could before getting into a car with one of the most attractive men you’d ever had the pleasure of meeting. Or even laying eyes on.

You overheard his somewhat muffled conversation with Joo Hyuk, your brow furrowing slightly as he assured his business partner he would be back soon to finish closing up.

Ji Soo had just told you it was no trouble at all, but you were forcing him to abandon his friend just as yours had abandoned you. You’d worked retail before, and closing up shop was never fun. But doing it on your own? Even worse.

The fact that you lived hardly ten minutes away was moderately comforting, but you still felt absolutely guilty for throwing a wrench into their nightly routine.

“All right, let’s get you home,” Ji Soo said with a charming smile as he joined you again near the door.

“Are you sure?” you asked, just to be certain.

“Yeah, come on,” he answered with a nod, holding out an arm to usher you back outside.

As soon as he opened the door, the sound of the driving rain filled your ears again and, once more, you pulled your hood up over your head.

Ji Soo hurried you around the back of the shop, gesturing toward a non-assuming sedan parked out of sight. The lights flashed as you neared it, and he reached out from behind you to open the passenger-side door for you.

He had joined you in the car, taking his place behind the wheel, not even ten seconds later, and it wasn’t even a minute after that he was leaving the parking lot.

You murmured the first direction, feeling the anxiety begin to settle in your stomach. You’d been nervous enough earlier when he’d sat on the edge of your chair with several other people around.

Now you were alone with him in a car.

Jane would certainly be thrilled, but you were becoming increasingly apprehensive by the second. In fact, you were so distracted by thinking about how anxious you were that Ji Soo’s sudden voice almost made you jump.

“It’s Y/N, right?” he asked, and one glance over at him awarded you with the sight of his slightly and adorably wrinkled forehead.

“Yes,” you nodded.

“I’m Ji Soo,” he told you. “I don’t think I’ve told you yet, but I was wearing a name tag, but you probably would’ve felt awkward saying my name when I haven’t actually introduced myself.”

Well. He had somehow gotten into your head, hadn’t he?

Or he just remembered how embarrassed you got earlier and made a logical assumption.

Either way, he was correct.

“Ji Soo,” you said with a soft chuckle. “Nice to meet you. Not the best of circumstances, but --”

“Well, technically, we met earlier when you ordered your green tea latte.”

Ooh.

Interesting.

He remembered your order?

“Yes, this is true,” you agreed with a nod. “It was delicious, by the way.”

“I can’t take credit for that,” he laughed. “Joo Hyuk was making everything tonight. But if you come back tomorrow, I can make you one. Guaranteed to be even more delicious.”

“I have to come back tomorrow,” you pointed out with an awkward smile. “My car is still in the parking lot.”

“Oh, that’s right!” Ji Soo exclaimed as he turned onto the street at your direction. “So, listen, I have a friend who’s a mechanic. I can call him and come pick you up whenever you have time. Do you need your car tomorrow morning to get to work?”

You shook your head at first, adding a soft “No” when you realized his eyes were on the road. “I work from home most of the time.”

“Yeah? That’s pretty sweet. What do you do?”

“I’m a freelance photographer and website designer,” you explained. “I don’t have any shoots tomorrow, though, so no worries.”

“Photographer and website designer?” Ji Soo asked, sounding highly impressed. “So your Instagram is popping, then.”

A laugh immediately burst through your lips, and you could feel your cheeks burning at his statement. “Well. I like to think so, but...”

You pointed toward the next street, continuing to give him directions as he continued to make small talk. He asked where you’d gone to school, what your favorite photography subjects were, what kind of websites you designed, and just after he asked how long you’d known your friend, you directed him into your driveway.

“We met in college, so it’s been a while now,” you answered. “Her name is Jane, by the way.”

“Jane the Troublemaker,” he smirked as he put his car in Park.

“Yes, absolutely,” you chuckled.

Ji Soo then turned to face you as best as he could with his seatbelt still on, holding out his hand toward you. “Do you have your phone on you?”

“...Yes,” you told him a bit hesitantly.

“I’m gonna give you my number so you can call whenever you’re ready. The shop opens at 7, but the morning rush doesn’t die down until around 8:30, so whenever you want me to come and pick you up after that.”

You reached into your bag, sliding out your phone and unlocking it before placing it in his palm.

Unsurprisingly, your heart was racing as he punched in his number, and you were insanely curious to see what he had put as his contact name.

“There you go,” he murmured as he pressed ‘Save.’

“I can probably just ask Jane to drive me over there,” you said, already feeling guilty for making him leave work to pick you up.

“No, it’s totally fine,” he assured you. “I feel responsible since it happened at my shop, so I want to make sure everything gets taken care of.”

You couldn’t stop a soft, tiny smile from tugging at your lips as you received your phone back from him. “Well, thank you. I really appreciate it. And I’m really sorry --”

“No apologies,” he interrupted with a very attractive smirk.

You pressed your lips together and zipped them.

Ji Soo’s smirk grew into a smile, and your heart raced even more.

“Call me whenever you’re ready,” he repeated as you reached to open the car door.

You simply nodded, grabbing your bag and exiting his car as quickly as you could without getting too much rain on the seat.

As soon as you were safely inside the shelter of your own home, you let out a very relieved breath.

And then you dug your phone back out and pulled up your conversation with Jane.

You were torn between annoyance and amusement at her reaction. She was obviously feeling smug because things had worked out according to her plan (you assumed), but you were still a bit upset that your best friend had just left you! You decided to play it on the dramatic side, though, because... well. She was your best friend. You could be dramatic with her, and she wouldn’t care.

A soft gasp escaped your lips.

...She would do your laundry? For a year?

...Well, that didn’t sound ominous at all.

You were about to lock your phone and head into your bathroom to get ready for bed, but you suddenly remembered Ji Soo had put his number in there.

You clicked on your contacts, slowly scrolling to the J’s to find his name.

And when you did, a smile instantly appeared on your lips, and you found you had to actively stop yourself from squealing and giggling but also rolling your eyes in amusement.

Even though you worked at home and didn’t really have a set schedule, you still liked to wake up fairly early every morning. You felt so much more like a human being when you had a morning routine.

Since you were going to the coffee shop later, you skipped your normal mug of Earl Grey tea and only ate your bowl of cereal. As you were brushing your teeth and getting dressed, you acknowledged that you still felt like more of a human... but also less so because you had no caffeine in your system.

So, as soon as 8:30 hit (the time when Ji Soo said the morning rush died down), you navigated to his name in your phone... took a deep breath... and called him.

“Yep, hello,” he answered after just one ring.

“Um, hey,” you began, hearing how awkward you sounded. “It’s Y/N --”

“Oh, hey! You ready?”

“Yes -- if it’s a good time! If you’re too busy, that’s fine, I’m ready whenever.”

“It’s a perfect time, actually,” he told you. “I’ll be right there.”

“Okay, sounds good!”

Ji Soo murmured a quick ‘See you soon,’ but before he hung up, you heard him start to call out to Joo Hyuk that he would be right back.

“Yes, right back, I swear -- oh, shit. Sorry, bye!” he laughed before actually hanging up the phone this time.

You chuckled softly to yourself when you heard the soft ‘beep’ of the call ending, and then you moved to grab your bag and get ready to wait for him.

As you waited, you couldn’t stop yourself from thinking over what could happen in the next hour or two.

Most likely, Ji Soo’s mechanic friend would get your car started, you would pay him and thank Ji Soo for his help, and then you would drive back home. 

But... what if... 

No. You didn’t even want to get just one tiny little hope up.

No matter what Jane said, the odds were against Ji Soo ever becoming your boyfriend.

You weren’t sure why, but... still. You just didn’t want to get your hopes up.

When he pulled into your driveway barely even ten minutes after you’d hung up with him, you took a deep breath and headed down the walkway.

“Good morning,” he greeted you once you sat down in the passenger seat, shooting you a friendly grin.

“Morning,” you replied a bit shyly.

“How are you?” he asked. He waited until you’d buckled your seatbelt before putting the car into Reverse and backing out carefully.

“Well, I haven’t been able to leave the house for almost 12 hours, so I feel practically like a hermit,” you joked. In reality, there were times when you didn’t leave the house for over a full day.

“The sun wasn’t too bright for your eyes? Do you need me to catch you up on all the news you missed since last night?” Ji Soo replied, obviously playing along but sounding very serious.

“With the state of things these days, I think I’d rather not know,” you sighed.

“Good idea.”

You felt marginally more comfortable around Ji Soo, so as he drove, you forced yourself to ask most of the questions he’d asked you last night. You didn’t ask what he did for a living because, well, you already knew that. But you did find out he and Joo Hyuk had gone to school here, had both moved away after graduation, but had decided to come back to open up their coffee shop.

“What made you want to come back here?” you asked, mentally high-fiving yourself because you knew they hadn’t been living here this whole time. Two guys as attractive as they were would have definitely captured your attention before now!

Ji Soo took in an inquisitive breath before replying. “I don’t really know. We just both wanted to come back here, I guess. When we looked for places to rent where we used to live, nothing really worked out. So we just... I don’t know. We came back. And it worked out.”

“I’ll say,” you chuckled.

“What do you mean?” Ji Soo asked, curiously amused.

“The Mug is pretty much all anyone can talk about these days,” you told him. 

“Really?!”

“Yes!” Now, the question was... did you tell him why? “I mean, why do you think you guys are so busy? You’re a brand new coffee shop in a city filled with Starbucks.”

“Is our coffee really that good?!”

...Okay, well, now you had to tell him.

“I mean, maybe,” you said. “But... to be honest... most people are just talking about how good-looking the owners are.”

Ji Soo didn’t reply for a few moments... but when he did, his tone was even smugger than Jane’s text messages last night.

“Is that why you came last night?”

Wow, you had walked right into that, hadn’t you?

“No!” you cried instinctively. “I mean, yes, kind of, but I’m not --”

“You’ll come back for the drinks, though, right?”

“Yes.”

“...And because I’m so good-looking.”

“Yes -- no, wait -- I mean, not that you’re not good-looking --”

As you awkwardly stammered out your explanation, Ji Soo navigated to his recent call list on the touch-screen in his car. He pressed on your number, and your phone lit up as he called you.

“Ha!” he laughed. “You didn’t change my name.”

“No, I just -- I didn’t have time, and I thought it was funny, and --”

“Wow, you really are easy to embarrass. Your friend was right.”

You let out a distressed whine as you leaned over to press your head against the car window. “Yes, I am, and I wish you had just taken her word for it instead of testing it out yourself.”

“There is no need to be embarrassed about thinking I’m hot,” he assured you.

“I don’t -- !!” But you had to cut yourself off because you most definitely did think he was hot. “I’m not --” But you had to cut yourself off again because you most definitely were embarrassed.

Thankfully -- blessedly -- Ji Soo had just pulled back into the parking lot of the coffee shop, so you just let out a sigh as Ji Soo laughed good-naturedly.

“I promise I won’t tease you anymore today,” he told you as he parked his car and turned off the engine. “We’ll go inside, I’ll call Jordan, I’ll make you a green tea latte, and there will be no more teasing.”

You only glanced over at him, afraid your cheeks would just straight up burn off your face if you looked at him fully, and you tipped your chin into a small nod.

Ji Soo opened the car door, but before he got out, he paused.

He turned back to you.

“And you can look at me and my handsomeness as much as you want.”

Before you could retort that he’d just said he wouldn’t tease you anymore, he let out a devilish laugh and hurried out of the car and into the shop.

I Know That It’s Love

Sonia x MC

Sleep continues to evade Sonia as she tosses and turns. The dark of night sits heavy around her, the silence making her antsy. Perhaps it was the fact that she actually had time to sleep now, with the Monaco job over and done with (thank God), that she didn't know how to actually fall asleep unless she was utterly exhausted. Whatever it was, this was the third night in a row that she found sleeping impossible, and she grit her teeth in annoyance. It didn't help that three days ago, she had talked to Gwen on the phone. Her stomach had done somersaults, her heart fluttering like a trapped bird. Gwen, of course, had teased her, given nothing away to her location, and openly flirted. Sonia was all business at first, but her resolve had quickly faded when she realized that she liked the banter between she and Gwen. However, she didn't get a chance to act on it because Gwen had ended the call. So perhaps that was the true reason to her not being able to sleep.

With a huff, Sonia buried her face in her pillow, cursing her feelings. She chanced a glance at the clock, groaning. 3:15am. She'd been trying to sleep for over four hours now.

A rapid knock on her front door near made her jump out of her skin, and she cursed as she eased out of bed. Who the hell was knocking at 3:15am?! Probably Ms. Drew again from down the hall, looking for her cat. Just in case, she tucked her Glock in the small of her back. Reaching the door, she looked through the peephole, and had to rub at her eyes to make sure she wasn't seeing things. Gwen stood in the hall, a bottle of rosé and a box of cereal under one arm and a disgruntled cat under the other.

"What in the hell are you doing here?!" Sonia near shouted, throwing the door open.

"Shh, you'll wake your neighbors! But gosh, not even a hello for your dearly beloved?"

"Just shut up and get in here."

"Very forward of you," Gwen purred, brushing her arm against Sonia's as she entered the small apartment.

"Gwen, give me one good reason not to arrest you right now."

"Oh, please. You have no evidence to prove I'm guilty." Gwen shot her a smirk as she set the rosé and cereal down on the kitchen island, snuggling the cat against her. "And you invited me into your apartment. So, no forced entry or trespassing, I'm afraid."

"...Fine. But why are you here?"

"Well, I wanted to see you." There was nothing but pure love behind those words, and Sonia stood stunned for just a moment.

"Gwen..."

"Oh, come on, babe, I know you feel it too. Or else we wouldn't have had all those run-ins in Monaco. I know there's a part of you that knew it was me under that mask, and you still kissed me. Not to mention, getting handcuffed in the hallway..." She wiggled her eyebrows suggestively at this, and Sonia rolled her eyes.

"You're drunk, aren't you?"

"Mmm maybe just a little. I had every intention of coming here sober but, um, I got wine." Gwen moved across the room to the couch, sprawling herself across it, the cat balancing on her chest. She wondered if it was the same cat that Ms. Drew was always looking for.

"And why do you have a cat? Did you steal it?!"

"I don't steal everything ya know, I'm actually an outstanding citizen, outside of stealing from the rich to give to the poor."

"The Robin Hood act is honorable, but you're still a criminal."

"A gorgeous criminal with a huge crush on a super-hot policewoman."

Sonia could feel the heat creep up her cheeks. "Gwen, you need to go. You shouldn't be here."

"And you're just going to kick me out? A drunk girl in the middle of...what country are we in again? Anyways, that doesn't seem responsible."

"Oh, don't get me started on responsible!"

“Ugh. Eat some cereal with me? I need to eat something.”

Sonia just glared at her but moved to the small fridge and pulled out a carton of milk. Opening the cereal box, she poured the cereal into a bowl before adding the milk.

“Thank God.” Gwen was suddenly looking over her shoulder.

“What?”

“You poured the cereal and then the milk. Proves you’re not a monster.”

“Good, I’m glad I’m not a monster.”

“Far from it, sweet cheeks.” Gwen grabbed her bowl, and sat at the small dining table, Sonia removing her gun and leaving it on the counter, coming to sit across from her. The cat jumped onto the table, watching them intently.

“Were you going to shoot me?!”

“You knocked on my door at 3 in the morning. I wasn’t taking a risk,” Sonia replied, raising an eyebrow as she smirked.

“Fair enough.”

“Seriously Gwen, where did this cat come from?”

“Don’t tell me you’re not an animal person.”

“Gwen.”

“Ok, ok, he was sitting outside your door. Thought he was yours.”

“Really?”

Gwen just shrugged, slurping the milk from her bowl. Sonia sat silent, wondering how she got herself into this predicament. Eating cereal with a drunk thief that she was totally in love with and a cat that was definitely not hers at 3:30 in the morning was not how she thought her Thursday would go. And Gwen was right, she has no authority or evidence to arrest her.

“You look cute when you’re pondering life’s difficulties.”

Sonia blushed again, but said nothing, watching the other woman. Her heart fluttered, and Sonia wanted to punch something.

“I think we should let the cat out so he can go home,” Gwen finally said, rising to pick up the orange tabby. “Sorry buddy, but you can’t live here.”

“Yeah, good idea.” Sonia couldn’t help a giggle as Gwen lifted the cat, his eyes alight with protest.

Sonia stood and opened the front door, Gwen kneeling beside her. “On you go! Go home!”

The cat jogged down the hall, looking over its shoulder one last time before rounding the corner.

“I’m going to miss him,” Gwen mumbled as Sonia shut the door.

“You knew him for all of ten minutes.”

“And we became best friends.”

“I think you should get some sleep. Do you want me to call you a Lyft?”

“Hmm. Can’t remember where I was staying. Guess that means I gotta stay here.” Gwen batted her eyelashes, moving into Sonia’s personal space.

“You can have the couch.” Sonia took a step back and turned back towards the living room. Gwen openly pouted as she followed behind her. Sonia grabbed blankets and a pillow from the hall, tossing them on the couch. “In the morning, I’ll get you a Lyft. Goodnight, Gwen.”

“Sonia…” Gwen looked at her longingly, her green eyes sparkling.

“Goodnight.” Without another glance, Sonia turned and damn near ran to her room, shutting the door behind her. Why did this woman continue to put her into these situations?! Sonia tossed herself onto the bed. She was definitely not getting any sleep now.

Gwen woke with an intense pounding in her head, and wondered if she’d recently suffered a concussion, or maybe been hit by a truck. Cracking her eyes open, she winced at the bright light of morning creeping in through the blinds. Groaning, she rolled over and sat up, opening her eyes again. Wait…where the fuck was she?! She panicked for a split second, then flashes of last night came back to her. She groaned again, her head in her hands.

“Fuck.”

Rising from the couch, she made quick work of folding the blankets before searching for her phone. It was on the counter, next to an open bottle of rosé and a box of Fruity Pebbles.

“At least I brought decent cereal,” she mumbled, checking the time on her phone. She considered her options. Leave without a word, pretend it never happened? No, that wasn’t like her. Wait till Sonia woke up? What time did she wake up? It was only 6:45am. Maybe she’d leave her a note. Yes, a note with her number on it, so they could at least talk. Gwen was sure she’d…said some things last night that sober her would regret.

Scouring the kitchen and living room, she found a pad of paper, tape, and a nice fountain pen (Sonia, you pen nerd).

I’m so sorry I was a complete ass last night. Please understand that this is not how I wanted this to go, at all. I want to talk to you, I want to see you. You mean a lot to me, and I want to get to know you. No ulterior motives, no guns, no tricks. I promise. If you can accept my most sincere apology, call me.

Gwen scribbled in her number, breaking off a piece of tape and sticking it to the paper. Moving down the hall, she stopped before the only closed door. Her heart beat quickened, her palms suddenly sweaty. She, the over confident thief that had talked herself out of bad situations, avoided bullets more times than she thought necessary, jumped out of moving vehicles, and stolen millions upon millions in jewels, money, and intel, was nervous. She gulped, lifting her hand to stick the note to the door, when it suddenly flew open. Sonia looked like a deer in headlights, her eyes wide, mouth parted in surprise.

“Gwen.”

“Sonia.”

They awkwardly stood there, waiting for one another to make a move.

“Right, um, about last night, I’m so, so sorry, I was an ass and-”

“No, stop, it’s alright.”

“No, it’s not! You deserve my whole attention, my complete sober attention. I’m pretty sure drunk me is a different person.”

“Actually, I think you’re much alike. She just has no filter. I mean, you don’t have a filter most of the time, but drunk you is worse.”

Gwen laughs at this, ducking her head to hide her blush.

“So…are you going to leave?”

“Um yeah, I was going to get going. I don’t want to interrupt your day.”

“Much too late for that, no?” Sonia smirks, a perfect brow arching, and Gwen just wants to kiss her. But instead, she lifts her chin, looking Sonia in the eyes.

“Well, I’ll just be off then.”

2000 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am - My Ownership Experience

Hello all, I’m bored and home sick right now so I decided to write a review of my ownership of my 2000 Trans Am. A little background on the 4th gen F body real quick. The 4th generation Firebird and camaro began in 1993. You could have the 160 HP 3.4L V6 or the 275 HP LT1 V8. V8 manuals featured the new T56 6 speed transmission. The F bodies were face lifted in 1998, along with new power train options. The 3800 V6, or the legendary LS1 V8. This facelifted V8 era F body are highly sought after and have been going up in value. The official HP rating of the LS1 F bodies is 305-325 with 340-350 lb-ft of torque, but dyno tests on stock vehicles show them making as little as 290 HP to the wheels, indicating that the factory rating is under-rated, most likely to prevent drawing sales away from the Corvette (rated 340-350 HP). From 1998 to 1999, the LS1 had EGR and the original style LS1 intake manifold. In 2000, the exhaust manifolds were redesigned to flow better, increasing the power slightly, then in 2001, EGR was eliminated and the LS6 intake manifold was used, maxing out the factory HP ratings. The cars were killed in 2002 due to difficulty in passing safety regulations (from what I’ve heard).

Now into the actual review. My car is a 2000 Trans Am with the T56 manual transmission. I purchased it in June 2016 at 99k miles for $5800 and it currently sits at a hair under 112k. The car is in bright red and has a black interior. Great combination in my opinion.

As soon as I purchased it, I drove it home for the first time with the window down. Not by choice however, but because I lowered the window briefly and the motor decided to crap out then and there. Welcome to late model GM ownership! I was able to get the window back up the next morning by slamming the door several times while holding the switch, then I ordered new Dorman window motors for both sides for just over $30 each. Replacement took about 3 hours the first time, then 45 minutes for the other side once I knew what to do. The OEM motors are riveted in, and you have to drill them out and use nuts and bolts to replace the rivets. After that, I had 2 working window motors again! I then ordered a set of NGK TR55 spark plugs and MSD super conductor wires. I read up on spark plug change beforehand and read of all the horror stories of replacing plug number 8 (back of the passenger side) due to it being underneath the windshield and crammed between the chassis. I personally had no trouble getting to it. Removal of the air injection pipe and the coil packs on top of the valve cover, and a 1 inch extension on my spark plug socket, while crouching on top of the radiator support, made it easy work.

Working on this car is actually very easy. People like to give this car shit for being cramped, but I did not mind it at all. Then again, I grew up learning how to wrench on a Z32 300ZX! Parts are also fairly cheap, I picked up new OEM ACDelco water pump and alternator for about $100 each, and it also ended up needing a power steering pump for less than that. It also needed tires, so I upgraded to some OEWheelsLLC C7 style 17” wheels and put BFGoodrich Gforce comp2 all season 275/40ZR17 tires on. It made a huge difference over the no name 245 tires it had previously. Stock tire size is adequate for the V6, but the LS1 is a little overwhelming for them, and a 275 upgrade is necessary for the V8s. The WS6 did come with 275 in the rear only, but not the Trans Am or Formula. My car has the upgraded “Monsoon” sound system. It sucks. 3/6 speakers are blown and I have to keep the bass on zero just to make it usable. I don’t care though, I have a Borla sound system!

That takes me to the exhaust. The LS1 is entirely different from the original small block chevy and shares maybe 1 bolt with it. It doesn’t have the old school deep grumble glugluglugluglugluglug you expect from a 5.7L American V8. Instead, the even firing order gives it a much more steady, and modern growl that turns into almost a roar as you go through the RPM. I’ve never heard stock exhaust on this car, so I can’t comment on that, but I’m talking about how it sounds with my rather aggressive Borla. It is only a catback, it has stock headers and cats and Y pipe. And honestly, the sound it has now is almost perfect. It’s not too loud but it’s loud enough that it makes you giggle. Any louder and it would be too annoying.

The interior of the car feels like sitting in a fisher-price toy. It’s all hard cheap plastic. The seats are leather but they ripped on mine, hence the seat covers. I find the seats particularly uncomfortable, and usually can’t stand driving the car for more than 30 minutes at a time without needing to get out and stretch. The back of the seat curves towards the back and puts you at a slouching angle. Side bolsters are ok, but they don’t really hold you in too great, I find myself bracing my leg against the sides to keep me in place around fast turns. I think the black interior looks cool, but in any other color it looks ugly and has an inescapable “old car” look.

As far as issues with the car, well I’ve already addressed the window motors, by far the most common issue. Another issue that everyone is always asking about: the headlight motors. Well I hate to disappoint you, but my headlight motors have worked 100% since I got the car and I’ve never even had a single hiccup with them. The T tops leak, as you can imagine. My car has new T top seals but that doesn’t matter, it’s inevitable. They did it when the cars were brand new. If I’m stopped in the rain it will drip on the door a little bit, but it stops once you start moving and the rain doesn’t hit on top of the car. I dealt with a power steering leak that appeared to be coming from the pump, so I replaced the pump and then experienced more leakage a few months later. It began as a single drip every few days, to topping off the fluid every other week, and I finally realized that something may be wrong when I was leaving trails (yes, trails) of power steering fluid everywhere I went. I was topping it off before every drive, and it would be bone dry every time I filled it. It turned out to be a $15 high pressure hose. I replaced that this fall and haven’t had a leak since then.

Now onto the performance. Yes it’s fast. LS1s in a 3400 pound car tend to do that. Now I’m sure we’ve all heard the old “American cars can’t handle!” Well, you’re dead wrong. The only suspension modifications I’ve done apart from the tires were polyurethane sway bar end links, and UMI performance rear control arms to eliminate wheel hop (not really even a handling mod). It can take highway ramps at 55+ mph without breaking a sweat. Now there is some truth to that old saying. I’ve driven my friend’s 2002 Mustang GT and it handles like a sack of potatoes. But the F bodies sit a little lower than the mustangs and have a better suspension setup with SLA strut up front as opposed to the mustang’s modified MacPherson struts, and a 50/50 weight distribution. And with a square stance 275 tires on all 4 corners, it stops on a dime. Now, the brake pedal does take some encouragement, it’s got good bite but there’s a dead zone in the travel where it doesn’t do much. I chalk it up to the rubber hoses flexing, and I think steel braided hose would solve that, as it did on my 1990 Chevy K2500. But if you slam that brake, you’re gonna have seatbelt marks on your chest. I have never been able to engage the ABS on dry pavement.

My overall score for the car is 4.5/5. The only things I don’t like about the car are in the interior. Cheap hard plastic, and slouchy uncomfortable seats. Other than that, it’s a fantastic car and I love it. It’s fast, it’s loud, and it’s definitely a head-turner in that bright red color! I’ve had plenty of men in their 50s-60s give me the thumbs up or ask me if it’s got “the 350” in it. It gets surprisingly very good gas mileage. I get close to, if not, 30 mpg on the PA turnpike. With these aerodynamics, and a 6th gear ratio of .5:1 (~1500 RPM at 70 mph) it makes sense. There’s an unlimited aftermarket to allow you to turn this thing into a street cruiser, dragster, or autocrosser. These cars have so much performance potential for the money.

The opposite is much easier: hang out with friends, go to movies, take naps, essentially don’t do much. Without the suffering, then, you can’t get the joy of being a great singer.

Can You Reduce Suffering?

No. It’s a natural part of the human experience. You can reduce the amplification of pain within the suffering by focusing less on yourself, though.

The Dalai Lama has a great quote,

“As long as you are too focused on your self-importance and too caught up in thinking about how you are good or bad, you will experience suffering.”

Removing the self-importance is an important step. Realize that everyone suffers. Athletes train to get better. Singers sing and get booed at gigs. Entrepreneurs lose money and think it’s over before they really have a successful business.

Stephen King, one of the most successful authors of all-time, had his first novel, Carrie, rejected 30 times before it was published. It was a similar number of rejections for J.K. Rowling and Harry Potter, which may be the most successful book and film series of all-time.

All these people before they experienced the joy and success, they suffered.

Find Joy in Suffering

Research by psychologist Sonja Lyubomirsky suggests that only 50 percent of our happiness is determined by uncontrollable factors like our genes or temperament. The other half is determined by a combination of our circumstances, our attitudes and actions which we have control over.[3]

Celebrate every small amount of joy. You are going to fail. You’re going to suffer. Take a small amount of joy in those moments. Understand they are learning experiences. You will grow from them.

Very few people marry their first love; many go through heartbreaks. Very few people see their first professional endeavor be a total success; many scrap and fail before they find some success.

Find a way to track your progress and to set and celebrate small benchmarks. You may also want to conduct a weekly review to assess where you are and celebrate all of the small wins of the week.
