actually, there's no need for an updated "we didn't start the fire", or a modern version of the song that follows its structure beat-for-beat. "summer girls" by lfo is like the spiritual successor to "we didn't start the fire", but it's a terrible 90s love song, so no one's ever gonna be ready for that conversation
#stayed all summer than went back home / macaulay culkin wasn't home alone#fell deep in love but now we ain't speaking / michael j fox was alex p keaton#you're the best girl that i ever did see / the great larry bird jersey 33#call you up but what's the use / i like kevin bacon but i hate footloose#outside of a few outliers (shakespeare and fucking. paul revere) every other reference is safely in the 2nd half of the 20th century#or the time where the band members were growing up#much like how billy joel's song is less of a history lesson and more 'listen to all the shit that's gone down while i've been alive'#like this is such a stupid song but i'm just throwing that out there into the wind#rambles

I’m not from earth I’m from Missouri. 35 He/Him/They/Them - ENM
- I am a host of different hats, production, writing, directing, and editing. Videography and writing keep the lights on. Fell in love with the grandiose and pageantry of pro wrestling at way too young of an age, and I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
- Aficionado of things with strings. When I started playing music nobody wanted to be the bassist so I took one for the team. I’ve been playing the same P-Bass for 20 years. Music was my first love.
- I can play six degrees of Kevin Bacon with the best of them. I adore film and cinema as an art form. The $1 wall of my local video store taught me all I ever needed to know about horror, and it never steered me wrong.
- Will absolutely tell you to listen to the first four Black Sabbath albums on the best pair of headphones you can find
- Could very possibly be 8 mallard ducks in a fat boy disguise
- Love tattoos and try to snag a new piece whenever I can. Forever a member of the Friday the 13th Flash Gang. Regret starting a chest piece but fuck it we ball.
- One time I met Sandman in a bar where he was doing a meet and greet and he proceeded to explain the intricacies of going from a surf board to Budweiser. Peak intellectual.
- I get we are all here under the umbrella of admiring fat bodies/being in fat bodies but decorum is free to keep. I love having fun/being playful as much as the next person, I myself am a whole ass person who would like to connect with folks a bit.
- I’ve got kinks, you’ve got kinks, we’ve all got kinks! Oprah leaves kinks under everyone’s chair. If we are friendly/more than I don’t mind entertaining. Can’t promise Hors d'oeuvres though.
- keeping expectations on cruise control, always down to jabber jaw with like minded individuals. I promise there’s a real person on the other end of this line, and he’s navigating exploration of a side of himself that he’s still getting to know. I’m growing quite fond of FFAs and contrast, and learning to really embrace my body.
- my DMs are always open, would love to talk you. And by talk I do not mean guess how fast I could swallow you, whether you were full size or shrunken.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, 'Wow! What a ride!'" - Hunter S. Thompson

Is there a masterlist of, like, actors and celebrities that have come forward for trans rights?
I know the internet has all sorts of collections of people who've done something messed up and those always depress me but reading about David Tennant being supportive in the face of the UK government and current legislation and stuff really hit me and I'd love to be able to see who else is out there standing up for us and what's right.
If not, here's a list I'm putting together, feel free to add to it or add context in the notes if you want! I'm including celebrities who have affirmed their support for trans family members even if they're not doing other activism. I'm also only listing celebrities I know of, and this list does not in any way endorse any problematic stuff any of them may have done outside of the topic.
Just making this list is cheering me up a lot tbh

hi hello me again obviously
for the ask game, 6, 10, 14, 20, 27 ! (no pressure to answer them all ofc)
ofc omg! hi! hi! hi!
6. what's your favourite urban legend?
asked and answered here!
10. what does your favourite hat look like?
it is a particularly nasty shade of mustard yellow, with white stitching on the front that says fag. it was a gift from my father after coming out. he got it in vegas. (unfortunately, hats flatten my bangs otherwise i'd wear them more.)
i also have a pikachu hat with inflatable ears that move when i squeeze these tube things. there is a picture on my instagram of me attending the detective pikachu movie in it. legendary costume, i say.
14. if you could meet any famous person, dead or alive, who would you want to meet?
freddie mercury. i'd give anything to have a single conversation with freddie mercury. i've always said that, at the end of the day, i want to live my life with the confidence and energy he brought to his everyday. if i could just like... idk buy him dinner or do his laundry or something. i've written countless essays on his legacy, his love of music, how strong a staple he's become in queer culture.
(also marsha p johnson)
20. how many bubble baths do you think you've taken in your life?
unfortunately, i have no idea. i've been in public baths in korea, if that counts? that was a wonderful weekend. in general, baths drive me insane despite them being good for my joints and post workout routine.
last bubble bath i remember was like six hours long because i started reading a persona 5 the last of us au and it drove me fucking insane it was so good i just sat there and pruned for six hours on my day off and finished every. damn. chapter.
27. what's the first movie you'd recommend to someone who has never seen a movie?
is it a copout to say footloose (1984)? it's my favourite movie for a reason. fantastic soundtrack, kevin bacon is a cutie in it, i love 80s films in general. plot is great, queer themes run rampant, and i still know the footloose dance to this day.
alternatively: the breakfast club, juno, breakfast at tiffany's, dead poet's society, good will hunting, and/or the perks of being a wallflower (all some of my favourite movies. i'd recommend my ultimate favourite, but uhhhhhhhhh)
some questions i'd love to be asked

FRIDAY THE 13TH (1980)
A slasher with a heart of gold! This is a classic movie that I decided to watch on this Friday the 13th. A dark romp through a rainy sleep away camp where things should be safe and secure but not on this cursed Friday! Try to keep your wits about you or you might lose your head!
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Particularly horny teens are getting murdled and Camp Crystal Lake is the place it is happening so no one wants to go to Camp Blood anymore. Years later they are attempting to open the camp again with equally horny teens and the killer is equally not okay with that. Immediately the cook is killed before she even gets to the camp, she can’t even make some wieners for the gang because she’s off getting her throat slit in the forest just outside camp! Wack! Also I’m assuming wieners are camp food, I’m not really sure though. There is also a creepy townie who they find in the pantry who tells them they are all doomed before he rides off on his bike. Security is obviously VERY relaxed there if that lunatic can just burst in and be waiting in the pantry though, just saying.
The only adult supervision leaves for the evening because he wants to sit around at a diner (okay) and the teens are left alone to drink and screw and just generally fuck around (which they do) but the killer makes sure they pay for that and for being young and playful in general (how dare they). A young Kevin Bacon makes passionate love and then has a passionate death with an arrow through the neck/chest area. Rough! His girlfriend gets an axe to the face (what, is her name Paul Allen?) which is arguably worse but still. The final three folks are playing strip Monopoly (whatever the fuck that means). Our next girl is lured into the woods by the sound of a little girl calling for help, which was very creepy. The last boy is arrowed to death.
Our Final Girl finds a lot of these victims and realizes what is going on, (sort of, because at first she trusts Mama Voorhees but then) she is boss and takes out Mama Voorhees with whatever she can find at her disposal which is very boss. After she takes out MV(P) she gets in a boat and sets out on the lake, I think just to be somewhere safe where she can rest until help arrives. She believes that Mama Voorhees is dead but isn’t entirely sure so is safer on the water away from her but this backfires when she is “attacked” by Jason who comes out of the water to Swallow her up… or did that really happen at all?

finally watching they/them (the kevin bacon conversion camp horror film), and yeah this is a mess which sucks because it literally could have been good if it was weird. Just be weird and scary and let the gay and trans people hunt a slasher. Or just let the horror of the setting speak for itself.
But no there’s a ‘bonding’ scene where the Black trans girl starts singing ‘F**kin Perfect’ by P!nk to the white transmasc to make them feel better even though it’s the Black girl who just got outed and forced into the men’s cabin I ????? And they sing the whole song with a dance number??? The most ‘and then everyone clapped’ film of all time.
#WHOOOOO said yeah I think the trans people should express gender euphoria through a Pink song and dance number sjdbsj WHAT???????#so strange.#double shot

Ahead of the NCIS franchise’s actual 1,000th episode (airing next Monday at 9/8c), CBS this Monday night served up the Entertainment Tonight special NCISverse: The First 1,000.
Hosted by ET‘s Kevin Frazier, The First 1,000 featured some new/new-ish interviews with past and present franchise cast members, a few archival Q&As and clips galore from NCIS and its assorted offshoots.
Closing out the retrospective was acknowledgment of cast members who are no longer with us (including NCIS: Los Angeles‘ Miguel Ferrer and NCIS‘ David McCallum), plus some hype for the franchise’s two upcoming offshoots: NCIS: Origins (aka the Young Gibbs prequel series starring Austin Stowell) and the yet-to-be-titled, Europe-set Tony/Ziva series starring Michael Weatherly and Cote de Pablo.

For hardcore NCIS megafans, brand-new reveals were probably hard to come by. But for the slightly more casual fan such as myself, there were fun facts to be found. Such as….
1. Spun off of a JAG two-parter, NCIS was at first envisioned as following the Law & Order format — half investigation, half courtroom — but viewer affinity for the agents’ clue-gathering and Mark Harmon’s character led to a change in the formula.
2. We’ve heard most of these before, but always fun to ponder: Other actors whose names were bandied about for the role of Leroy Jethro Gibbs included Harrison Ford, Kevin Bacon, Brat Packer Andrew McCarthy, Alec Baldwin and Patrick Swayze, while a post-Friends Jennifer Aniston was eyed to play the replacement for Tony’s original partner, Viv Blackadder (Robyn Lively),
3. Michael Weatherly recalled that when filming his first scenes as DiNozzo, NCIS co-creator Donald P. Bellisario came up to him on-set and grumbled, “What are you doing, modeling?” Weatherly then resolved to entertain at the very least himself with a more animated performance.
4. In the Season 2 episode “Twilight,” in which Caitlin Todd (played by Sasha Alexander) is shot dead by a sniper, Michael Weatherly can be seen wincing a half-second too soon, before the “blood” squib actually explodes. (See photo above.)
5. Actual NCIS agents had never worn stitched logo caps — until TV’s NCIS came along and sparked interest, and the real-life LEOs requested official ones.
6. Diona Reasonover, who plays Kasie, had no idea that Cote de Pablo was secretly returning as Ziva in the Season 16 finale — until she watched the episode that night!
7. Though not a series regular as McGee until Season 2, Sean Murray holds the record for appearing in the most NCIS episodes: 450 (out of 464). Fun fact within a fact: Murray was originally hired as a one-off guest star, but a subsequent episode came in three minutes short and it was decided to bring the McGee character back to fill time.
8. It would take almost 30 days to watch all 1,000 NCIS franchise episodes. Without bathroom breaks!
9. For its headquarters scenes, NCIS: Sydney shoots inside an actual, old restaurant space at the Walsh Bay Wharves along Sydney Harbour.

Dolo Flicks: MaXXXine Review: Ti West highlights the price for obsession with fame

"Now, say it with me... I will not accept a life I do not deserve!" -- Maxine
All the films in a series or franchise are rarely considered top-of-the-line or high-quality. Director and writer Ti West continues the trend of delivering top-notch horror with the third installment of his X series, MaXXXine. The film is a direct sequel to 2022's X and follows the pseudo-prequel Pearl.
MaXXXine stars Mia Goth as the titular character, Maxine Miller. It follows her journey attempting a future as a famous actress in Hollywood in the 1980s, against the backdrop of the infamous Night Stalker serial killer murders of the time. Maxine receives an opportunity to work on an upcoming horror movie sequel, and the events of X come back to haunt her, putting her new career at risk as a mysterious leather-wearing killer watches her every step. MaXXXine also stars Elizabeth Debicki, Michelle Monaghan, Bobby Cannavale, Giancarlo Esposito, and Kevin Bacon.
In 2022, when West set on what could have been a disastrous goal of putting together a trilogy of horror films, each with its own distinct style, many were skeptical as to how they would turn out. Two years later, West has put out one of the most anticipated films of 2024 as the final film in his horror trilogy, MaXXXine.
MaXXXine, following the path of the previous entries, is a film that stands out in both style and design. X was a 70's slasher with elements of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Halloween, and Black Christmas. Pearl served as a slow-burn character study with a character descending further into madness. What X and Pearl have in common is their smaller cast, making for a more intimate experience. MaXXXine, however, strays from the formula, carving its own unique path as a crime-thriller slasher.
The opening sequence of MaXXXine displays how the film will separate itself from its predecessors. It starts with an audition, where Maxine confidently outshines her competition and then takes us on a ride through Tinseltown to her next destination. This approach is so well executed that it instantly pulls the audience into the lifestyle of the main character, the setting, and the film's visual style.
" You've made it to the belly of the beast. Congratulations, very few come this far. To stay here, you must make it your obsession. Eliminate all other distractions because if you take your eye off that prize for even a moment, the beast will spit you right back out where you came from. You may never get a taste for you again." -- Elizabeth Bender (Elizabeth Debicki)
One element of West's trilogy that will be remembered is how each entry utilized the look and style of the films it mirrored. MaXXXine is a stylized slasher in the vein of some of Brian De Palma's work, such as Body Double and Dressed to Kill and Italian Giallo films of the 1970s. The cinematographer for each installment is Elliot Rocket, and MaXXXine is arguably his best work. The well of nostalgia for the 1980s has nearly run dry, but Rocket and West's technique and usage of colors bring a level of polish to MaXXXine that stands out from its contemporaries.
"I have to give Ti tons of credit because that is the kind of thing he's very focused on," Rocket told Indie Wire. "He'll push really hard to make sure that the aesthetic, the colors, the clothes people are wearing, what the hairstyles are, what the props are, what the color of the wall is painted.
“It's really just a matter of someone who's in charge, plus all of the other people who are working on it creatively having the vision in their mind to create a consistent and cohesive aesthetic in terms of all of these things that are going to be in front of the camera."
Goth has been the foundation for the trilogy's success, putting forth career-best performances. Yet, MaXXXine asks less of the famed actress than X and Pearl. In X, Goth played dual roles; in Pearl, her performance was the center of every aspect of the film. The cast allows for breathing room for the Maxine character, allowing others to shine. Kevin Bacon's Louisiana Private Eye, John Labat, is one of the film's highlights. Bacon brings a level of levity and fun to the film in-between moments of stylized violence. Along with Giancarlo Esposito's agent for the stars, Teddy Knight, MaXXXine's vibrant look bleeds over to many of its characters.
For the bloodthirsty horror fan, MaXXXine has a plethora of memorable kills. The kills are where the Giallo influence truly comes to life. In one scene, Maxine is pursued by a Buster Keaton impersonator and has the tables turned on him. Maxine pulls a gun and forces the man to strip, only to viciously stomp his testicles. This scene, like many others in the film, is a perfect example of the stylish violence that permeates MaXXXine. The colors used, along with the overly sexualized violence, infuse for an almost humorous moment that leaves audiences covering their faces in shock.
Time will only tell how West's trilogy will be viewed. However, its standing in recent horror history firmly places it as the best series of films of the decade. Each film is connected yet different enough for fans to pick any of the three as their favorite. MaXXXine, with its unique style and narrative, has left a significant mark on recent horror history. Despite a few narrative issues, specifically with how the film reaches its resolution, MaXXXine is one of the year's best horror films and certainly one of the most memorable and engaging.
