Below is an artwork and additional description!

Since Sydney doesn’t have a set surname, I temporarily used Ivy's surname, "Reinhart." The children’s first names were chosen by Sydney, while their middle names were picked by Ivy. While deciding on their middle names, I realized I hadn’t given Ivy a middle name either…

Their first birth was identical twins! I wanted the two boys to each inherit different aspects of Sydney—Daniel representing his pure side and Benjamin embodying his bolder, more confident traits. (yes, I’m referring to p!Sydney and c!Sydney!)

As for their third child, Beatrice, I wanted her to resemble Ivy from her childhood. While Ivy now seems calm and graceful, she was likely quite shy when she was younger.

I think Sydney would want a big family, and while Ivy seems calm and quiet on the surface, she actually prefers a lively and bustling atmosphere. She doesn’t show it openly, but she feels quite lonely. She also has a soft spot for children (she got along well with orphaned kids!). So, as long as they have the means, I believe they’d have lots of children...:///)

The Disability Library

I love books, I love literature, and I love this blog, but it's only been recently that I've really been given the option to explore disabled literature, and I hate that. When I was a kid, all I wanted was to be able to read about characters like me, and now as an adult, all I want is to be able to read a book that takes us seriously.

And so, friends, Romans, countrymen, I present, a special disability and chronic illness booklist, compiled by myself and through the contributions of wonderful members from this site!

The three of them found themselves nestled within the confines of a dilapidated shed that stood at the rear of the house, a secluded spot that was conveniently distant from the prying eyes of the night watch and the other guards. The air was thick with anticipation and the scent of damp wood as the darkness enveloped them. Oli, restless and on edge, paced anxiously just outside the doorway. His claws scraped against the hard ground, sending tiny pebbles skittering with each deliberate step. The rhythmic sound of his movement echoed in the stillness of the night, a constant reminder of his presence and the tension that filled the air.

It had been an unusual request for her to summon Joshua and Jolly to the shed, but she had her reasons, ones that weighed heavily on her mind. Instead of lying down on the cold, rough wooden floor, she chose to sit cross-legged in front of Joshua, her posture reflecting her resolve. Jolly, ever vigilant and supportive, perched directly behind her, ready to catch her if she stumbled or lost her balance.

“Are you absolutely certain about this?” Joshua asked, his brow furrowed with concern.

“Without a doubt,” she replied, her voice steady and resolute.

He didn't voice any further doubts; instead, he reached out, his hands extending toward her. With deliberate care, he placed one hand on each side of her head, his fingers resting gently near her temples. As he did so, she noticed a soft glow emanating from his skin, a faint shimmering light that hinted at the power coursing through him.

Almost immediately, she felt the pressure of his magic as it seeped through her skin and infiltrated her mind. It was a disorienting sensation, a wave of nausea washing over her as a torrent of memories flashed before her eyes. Joshua was diving deep into her subconscious, searching for something elusive. But rather than letting her memories overwhelm her, she took control.

With a determined movement, she reached up and grasped his hands, anchoring herself in the moment. She focused intently, feeling the delicate thread of his magic and holding onto it with all her strength. Instead of letting it spiral out of control, she nurtured it, allowing it to blossom within her mind.

Slowly, a singular memory began to take shape, vivid and clear. The familiar surroundings of the room in England materialized before her, and she honed in on that image, concentrating with all her might. Drawing upon her own magic, she sought to balance Joshua's energy, asserting her will over the vision that unfolded. She felt an exhilarating rush as she took command, guiding the memory into clarity and bringing it into the forefront of their shared experience.

She caught a glimpse of the shadow from the corner of her eye, but each time she turned, she could never quite see it clearly. The same voice echoed in her mind, insisting that she wasn't strong enough.

Bullshit.

She was more than capable, and she was determined to prove it. She felt herself lean into Benjamin's hands, urging him to amplify his magic; his fingers throbbed beneath her, somewhere distant as he fought against it, yet she compelled him to persist. The shadow was alert again in her peripheral vision, but this time, instead of twisting her head to catch it, she concentrated, forcing the shadow to move forward and into her line of sight, separating her old self from the new. Suddenly, she found herself standing beside the bed, gazing down at the person she had once been in a bygone era. She observed her memories unfold like an out-of-body experience, as if she were watching someone else concealed in the shadows.

"I certainly didn't see that coming."

She turned quickly to find the same woman who had been lying in bed, now standing in a light golden dress, her hair cascading down, her skin even paler than before, with a faint red mark on the lower right side of her abdomen where the lace was dark, revealing a small hole.

“I-I don't understand.”

"Not surprising," the specter replied with a hint of condescension.

They remained quiet for a moment, with Rosa attempting to comprehend everything as the memory she had previously witnessed replayed before her eyes. She turned when the nobles re-entered the room, eavesdropping on their discussion. This time, she could actually grasp the details of their argument.

“M’lady, you cannot keep him with you,” one of the lords implored.

“Says who?” her former self mocked.

“The law,” another gruff lord asserted. “The rules are clear: if you intend to marry a human lord, you must relinquish all magic and magical beings.”

Her guardian tumbled from the bed, transforming back into his four-legged form and growling at the lords.

“I believe you can see he would disagree.”

"How can I lift this curse?" Rosa's voice was resolute as she turned back to the golden-dressed specter, who gazed at the memory with glistening tears in her eyes.

"This was the night everything changed," Selene replied, her tone tinged with sadness, lost in her own reflections.

"What happened?" Rosa asked, glancing down at the dark tear in her dress. What had they done to her?

The surroundings faded away until it was just the two of them in the shed, with Jolly and Joshua absent.

"We’ve been devising a plan to rise against the lords. They believed our magic should remain confined to their Circle. They opposed my desire to marry a human. Initially, they intended for me to wed one of their highest lords, which would have amplified my magic for generations, but I would have been utterly miserable." She clasped her hands together and began to pace slowly in front of Rosa. "I turned down his proposal, sticking to my original marriage plans, when I learned from one of my spies that they were plotting to kill my fiancé and coerce me into marriage. For months, there had been whispers that the lords were trying to oust many of us from the seated council.”

“That's when you fought back.” The spectra nodded.

“We had gathered many of our faithful, easily bringing them out of the city and into a safe space. Thomas, my guardian and I were planning to leave that afternoon and head to the safe haven.” She choked back tears, her voice trembling with emotion. “Thomas had gone ahead of me, I was set to ride on horseback with my fiance. When I made it to the stables I found him dead.”

“It all unfolded so fast. I use the bond between me and Thomas to warn him to bring more back to fight. The circle took me as prisoner that night telling me that they would spare my rebellious friends if I were to accept their peace offering and marry the Lord that they had chosen. I had received confirmation from Thomas that he had gathered several guardians and only a few of our soldiers but they were hours away. I had to stall. I accepted the marriage to have a lady prep my hair and put on my finest dress.” Selene played with the thin layer of lace on the dress she wore.

“I managed to kill time and as we went through the ceremony I could only hope that they were moving fast. It was not soon enough.”

She must have seen the confused look on Rosa's face. She sighed, shaking her head as she dropped her shoulders. “Sacred marriages between celestials is a power bond, magic forever linked to one another. If one were to die the other would accept all magic that their partner had. One of the few reasons we celestials take marriage very seriously.”

“Could your human husband take your magic if, God forbid, something had happened to you?”

“If that was part of my marriage bargain, yes.”

“Wouldn't you think he would have betrayed you for that? Only married you for your magic!”

“Seems you know very little about love.” The spectra biased. “You have a guardian and a mage who love you, would you not think the guardian would lay down his life for you? That your mage would surrender all magic that he has in order to keep you alive?”

“I've never asked.”

“You need not ask. It's in the way they look at you. I have seen your memories just as you have seen mine.”

Rosa stood frozen, she'd been putting up walls, keeping her distance for fear that if she died this time around Jolly and Noah would be spared of the heartache.

“My guardian was too late.” fainted whisper broke their silence.

“As soon as they breach the castle walls I was stabbed, my magic lost. Taken.”

“That doesn't explain the curse, why must our lives continuously do this?”

“There is only one reason it would.”

The shed once again faded away and they were in the middle of a grand throne room. Rosa saw her former self standing in the same golden dress hand in hand with a man next to her. She watched as they exchanged vows and then a loud crash rumbled the castle walls. The man standing next to her brandished a dagger and stabbed it through her belly, her knees giving away and collapsing onto the floor. Rosa stated hard at the face of her betrayer, and her own breath caught in her throat.

Standing there a sneer on his face, younger than he was now, not as many wrinkles, not as much evil plastered into his features.

Summary:

Hundreds of years ago the creatures of mythos struck a deal with mysterious elemental beings to even the score with humans. In the wake of that agreement is an earth especially tailored for the creatures of mythos, humanity not being able to use their magic, and an empire ruled by the iron fist of the elementals. Both creatures and humans cling to the prophecy that a great chosen one wielding the element of  light would fight to free everyone from the empire's grip. However, a chosen one of darkness was also foretold to oppose them.

In the present day, Menodora is still struggling after realizing that despite being human and having the ability of light, she is not the chosen one. On her journeys far from the place she once called home, she's recruited by the werewolf general, Thais, on a plan that might be crazy enough to actually overthrow the empire.  Will she be strong enough to help with their movement, or will ties from her past hold her down?

Speaking about Burnside School, 91st Place and Langley Ave.

I speak this morning representing the Chesterfield Community Council

and its concern with the overcrowded conditions at Ambrose Burnside School.

Perhaps the most direct method would be to list the conditions at the

school and then present for your consideration what we think will help rem-

edy these conditions on two levels, the long run and the immediate future.

Simply stated, the problem is this: there are far too many children for

the facilities of the school. Here are the facts:

1) The ratio of pupils to teachers is 40.9-1

2) Perhaps an even more importation ratio is that of pupils to actual class

rooms. This is 45-1

3) I say actual class-rooms because there are classes meeting

a)on the stage of the auditorium

b)in the teachers' lounge

c) in the teachers' cafeteria

d) in the library.

It is an understatement to say that adequate teaching cannot be done under

these circumstances.

4) In the last five yearsthe enrollment at Burnside has had a net gain

of about 500, bringing it over the 1600 mark at the present time. And the

future promises no relief from this pressure. Due to the change in the racial

character of the neighborhood, which has seen families with young children

replacing many middle-aged and older folks whose children are now grown, and

due to the extensive building in the area between South Park and Indiana Ave.

and 87th and 95th Sts., all of which is in the Burnside district, there is

every reason to believe that the load on the school will continue to increase.

Here then is the problem. In view of the plans for building indicated

in the tentative budget for 1960, and keeping in mind an already pressing

situation, we offer the following for your consideration:

1) For future needs, not only of Burnside School, but of the larger

area bounded by 87th, 95th, State, and the Illinois Central tracks, we strong-

ly recommend the building of a full 8 grade school on the McDade site at 88th

and Indiana. We submit that a minimum figure of $600,000 rather than $300,000

is more in keeping with both the present and the future need in that area.

We feel that the present plans which would culminate in the building of a

school accomodating approximately 250 pupils would be an unrealistic approach

in view of the fact that there are already 537 children now attending Burn-

side who live in the area bounded by 87th, 95th, South Park and Indiana.

2) Along with the building of McDade we then would recommend re-district-

ing, moving the western boundary of the Burnside district to South Park Ave.

3) For Burnside's immediate needs we request the following alternatives

as providing a measure of temporary relief--

a) Build "portables" on the Burnside grounds

b) Consider the use of the facilites of Tuley Park for some class-

es. This park is in the block diagonally adjoining the school property.

c) Consider the use of the facilities of Vincent Methodist Church

for class-rooms. The church is immediately across the street from the school.

There are, no doubt, many factors to be considered in these remarks,

not the least of which is the availability of money for building. We do not

presume to be experts in this field. But we do justly claim a great concern

that the children of our neighborhood have the best education possible.

Under the present circumstances at Burnside, we know that this educational

process is severely hampered.

Hysteria

I think I'll lose my mind in hysteria, oh!

Benny sat in the classroom, scratching at his slate, the seemingly endless grating echoed through the room. His ink pen cracked slightly under his grip, the ink stained and splotches his hands but he didn't seemed to notice. No, he was too focused on staring at his slate, the letters and words seeming to leap and scream at him, some even seemed to twist and turn themselves the wrong way.

He couldn't understand it. He couldn't understand why he couldn't do anything right. He couldn't write his sums nor letters right. He couldn't walk right. He couldn't watch his sister-

Lillian. His dear sister Lillian. God, why? Why didn't he help her? Why did he allow her to go to the well alone at first—why did he even go back to sleep that night? She would've been here now. She would've been alive.

And yet he stood there. He could only stand there and watch. Watch as the rope drag his baby sister into the well, watch as she screamed and and kicked, her hand outstretched to him as a plea for help. Hear the sickening crunches and snaps as she hit the sides of the well. Listen to the splashing and thrashing as she gave one final attempt to live, only to sink further into her blood and the water.

"A r e y o u d o n e y e t?"

Benny jumped from his seat, his chair and desk knocked over and the slate and pen clattered to floor, the ink stained the floor. He stared straight at the window, and straight at her face.

She stared right back at him, her face now a blueish gray and adorned with new features. What used to be her eyes were now inky black puddles, completed with two glowing white irises swirling in the middle of them. Parts of her nose was gone, a poor attempt of sewing it back together was evident. Her jaw was cracked open, hanging in an eternal scream as blood and water flowed from it, and even bubbles seemed to escape from her mouth as they flowed upwards.

Seeing that Benny hadn't answered, she asked again, her head tilting with a resounding crack! as her neck bent under the pressure.

"A r e y o u d o n e y e t B e n n y? I m s o b o r e d w a i t i n g f o r you t o S T O P H I D I N G."

Benny screamed and fell back, tearing his eyes away from the sight as the urge to vomit became stronger he looked at her. Oh God, what has he done ? His sister now came back to haunt him, to remind him that HE let her die. HE killed her.

What a sad boy.

He couldn't breathe. He couldn't see. His head hurt, and tears blurred his already going vision as he gripped at his hair, pulling at it to stop the ever mounting pain growing in his head. The room spinned as he began choking and sobbing, and words and letters jumped off his slate at began to dance about him, turning backwards and twisting infront of him. Shards of the pen cut into his knees but he didn't care, he wanted it to stop. He wanted her to go away.

"STOPITSTOPITSTOP!" He roared, angiushed sobs racked his body but she just grinned in return and cracked her jaw open wider, screams rattling the windows and shaking the room.

"cOmEoUtBeNjAmIn,CoMeoUtAnD P L A Y!"

He cried out for help, for someone to save him. To end this nightmare and tell him it was alright. But the windows had already shattered and she was crawling towards his curled up figure, hands outstretched and laughing at his pathetic state. She would rip his face apa-

"BENJAMIN JOSIAH WEAVER, KEEP IT QUIET WHILE YOU WORK ON YOUR ASSIGNMENT!"

Mr. Crawford slammed the door open, the veins in his forehead bulging, before he stopped and stared at the curled up and weeping figure of the boy, his desk and chair overturned and pen and slate destroyed, the former cutting into his legs and knees. Immediately he rushed up to the boy, rocking him as he yelled his name. But Benny wouldn't answer, he instead curled himself up even further, before closing his eyes as he let his dear baby sister take him and punish him for his sins.

He's so sorry. So very, very sorry.

"on the town with the league of gentlemen" thoughts!

(bearing in mind that i have not fully [re-]watched the tv series yet)

i almost prefer it to the tv series? which is weird bc no visuals. but the immediacy of the audience connection makes it feel a bit less uncomfortable. (yes i am a wuss, what am i doing in this fandom :P)

ditto the fact that literally all of the parts are played by them, inc misc small children, etc!

LOVE the way in which this ends up subverting chloe and radclyffe away from the classic creepy twins trope XD mark is having so much fun :'D

general fascinated nerding-out over the ways certain scenes/characters/arcs do/don't change/evolve between the two versions/to suit the strengths of the different media 8)

soft spot for some of the characters that don't appear in the tv series, e.g. Answerphone Man, Reg Ingleby :D some delightful voice work <3

i am worse at telling apart their voices (when the characters are unfamiliar) than i thought i would be :P i think i mostly got it though

two whole scenes which reece carries by having a duologue between himself?? (stella/reg, bernice/benjamin.) which rarely if ever happens in the tv series? even though they could easily get around it with camera angles/lack of live audience? FUN.

(maybe sometimes the others too but lbr i'm only paying attention to reece)

feels like getting the makeup on really helped reece round geoff out properly :P

the way the lack of visuals means that when a reece character is suffering he properly goes hard on the whining and whimpering in order to sell it :3

i feel like barbara is a bit more humanised (/less dehumanised) in the radio version!! she gets a romance arc and everything. justice for barbara < / 3

you know when you consume a media when you're like 12 and you pick up a meme from it that just becomes part of your vocabulary forevermore without really remembering the origin? OH SO THAT'S WHY in my head it's mandatory to mock-argue about whether the trivial pursuit counters are wedges of cheese or pieces of pie :D that was a pleasant little brain clunk :)

all in all, strong recommend, lots to enjoy, wish there was more meta about it :')
