So I sort of have an understanding of what I want the fuck ass story to be, or at least the main goal through the game. In Subcon forest you have this broken giant time piece.

I decided to expand upon this odd piece of lore. These are the Grand Time Pieces. When they are broken, it could cause catastrophic events around the time pieces. Things like the world around them coming to a stop, or drastic unforeseen weather conditions. In the context of the story, it would be Hat Kid and Mu’s job to find and fix the broken Grand Time Pieces before anything cataclysmic happens to the universe.

It does make you wonder though. Who would destroy the grand time pieces like this..?

Thinking about A Hat In Time's ending upsets me because the only way it works on an emotional level is if you believe that Mustache Girl was unequivocally in the wrong or if you're okay with the idea of your villains and abusers telling this emotionally distraught little girl to fuck off. I wholeheartedly believe GFB lost the plot somewhere in development.

Truthfully, I haven’t thought about the DLC chapters. Because 1. They left little to no narrative impact on me, and 2. I think I’m slowly starting to understand the overall theme of my sequel, that being closure and tying up loose ends. To me the DLC’s ended pretty unambiguously so there really was no real reason for those places to be brought back. The only two locations I’ve brought back so far are Mafia Town and Subcon, mostly because there’s still more to be explored in those locations in terms of lore and story beats. But you know what? Just for you, Ash. I’ll give my visual representations of Hat’s hypothetical status within both locations.

Just throwing some story thoughts about the sequel into a post.

-Hat Kid originally returns to the planet from the first game to reconcile with Mu and planned to ask if she wanted to go home with her.

-Hat Kid’s major arc throughout the game would be her not being able to forgive herself for just leaving Mu behind. HK’s also very adamant on not using the time pieces to go back and change things, insisting she wanted to apologize correctly.

-The decision to give Mu the time piece is the canon ending in this story.

-Mustache Girl never used the time piece that was given to her.

These are just some of the ideas I had and didn’t know how to write them out other than in a bullet point structure. For reading, please have this teen Hatstache drawing of Hat Kid messing with Mu’s goatee.

I wanted to touch upon Hat Teen, because compared to Hat Kid she is incredibly different. Hat Kid is a child, so many of her traits mirror that of just a regular child, being obedient, but can still be mischievous and chaotic. Most of her adventure she’s also fairly indifferent to the situations around her, unless it pertains to the time pieces, or interrupts her mission of getting home. Hat Teen is more aware of the world around her. She’s had more time to think about her adventure and actions as a kid and is much more self-conscious and selfless. Despite that, she’s more mouthy and will talk back to people, much like anyone her age.
