Uncharismatic Fact of the Day
Asian palm civets are most widely known for their production of coffee beans for Kopi Luwak coffee, but they're also associated with another, equally popular drink: the toddy! The toddy cat also feeds on palm flower sap, which when fermented becomes a sweet liquor known as toddy which gives this cat its name.

If you send me proof that you’ve made a donation to UNRWA or another organization benefiting Palestinians, I’ll make art of any animal of your choosing.

Very little is known about the Owsten's palm civet and its behaviors. The information we have comes from the observations of local trappers and scientific study of the civet's scat and teeth. Although it's listed as endangered conservationists are working to increase populations by protecting wild civets, eliminating illegal civet hunting and trade, and conservation breeding. ©Port Lympne

Banded Palm Civet
The banded palm civet (Hemigalus derbyanus), also called the banded civet, is a viverrid native to Indomalaya. They primarily inhabit lowland conifer habitat, which is under threat from encroaching human activity. It is estimated the population of the banded palm civet has decreased by around 30% in just three generations. Banded palm civets are usually approximately the size of a domestic cat; their fur is pale but with dark bands on the back. They are believed to be closely related to Hose's palm civets, which are similar in appearance and distribution.

Conservation: Owston's Palm Civet

Conservation Tuesday! The Owston's Palm Civet(Chrotogale owstoni) is, unfortunately, Endangered. It has a high extinction risk due to its rapid population decline(over 50% within its last three generations). This is mainly because of over-exploitation, the wild meat industry, snares, and habitat destruction.

Hi hello any idea what this little guy is? The only source I found is pinterest and it just says civet but not what kind

I do! That’s a masked palm civet (Paguma larvata)!
Sure, this particular guy doesn’t have much of a mask. But that’s because masked palm civets come in an impressive variety of coat colors! Here are a few of them:

As of now, six different subspecies of masked palm civet are formally recognized, but as many as sixteen have been described! So this little guy just happened to be born with a particularly light coat, especially on the face. I wouldn’t rule out them being partially leucistic!

Old animal art requests! Palm civet, northern goshawk, and regular house cat. Ngl, I hadn’t heard of the first two before this. Palm civets have a constantly goofy look on their faces, made for some funny reference pics.

Older Muti-Media Pieces From (2020-2022)

Crow Call- was done for my (very unfinished) art portfolio in my senior year of high-school.
I was inspired by paper cut out works I had seen at the time and took a crack at it. It was one of the most fun projects I challenged myself with to date! Honestly I need to do another piece like this cuz it was SO pretty!
The cuts on my fingers tho where not worth it considering I was working half the project with a dulled blade until my Teacher noticed and gave me a cutting board and a new blade :’)

Frilled Beauty- another peice I did for my portfolio! She was a mixed media with Pastels (frilled shark), paint markers (highlights), & watercolor (background). Very fun when coming to the shapes and background!
Honestly during my time senior year of high-school I was wanting to have a completely animal themed portfolio due to them being my favorite to study, draw, and show! Animals have such fun and unique shapes that when drawing humans (at the time) I couldn’t really find!
Im very happy to report that I have been drawing humanoids for about 2 years now which I never thought I’d do! So very excited :)

Coffee Break- This was the last real piece of my portfolio and why I never finished. I felt drained and since the portfolio wasn’t required for the AP Art class I was taking I stopped creating at this time (besides small drawings). This peice was completely watercolor (besides highlighting with paint markers)!
This was a Asian palm civet who is know for their dropping that are farmed to make Kopi Luwak! I wanted to draw them due to them being endangered & I also really wanted to try their coffee (gross I know but I’ve heard it’s amazing)!
ANYWAY!
I’ll post some more recent pieces soon! I’ve been really enjoying posting on here! Soon I hope to maybe start working on something more then just some pony-bead 90s lizards but we shall see!
