Oxalis triangularis Conocida por sus hojas en forma de mariposa y su intenso contraste entre verdes y violetas, esta planta es una de las más delicadas y decorativas. En esta versión en papel, no he buscado replicar la planta con exactitud, sino reinterpretar su esencia: su ritmo, su color y su fragilidad.

Cada hoja está recortada y pintada a mano, en un proceso lento que intenta capturar el movimiento natural de esta especie tan singular.

Customer Kristine sent me a sweet video of how her 5th grade class used our DIY template for Paper Pumpkins, Squashes and Gourds. Doesn’t it look amazing? It really made my day.

Often I create things and wonder if it will just wind up sucked into a black hole or into the void. It feels great when someone actually admires and uses it.

Day 411 Art meditation, July 12

Work-in-progress-paper dress and sculpture

July Art Drop

I’m excited. Here is some of the work-in-progress for my July art drop Paper dress and sculpture. Intentionally using new shapes from my Tree Ring heart art brand bundle, and not worrying so much about how perfect it is. 

What I am aware of is how peaceful I am when I’m working with it…

I can kind of picture my little 6 year old self, who just loved art.

The other thing that happens in this inner space is new ideas. It gives my mind a chance to release some of the unhelpful thoughts, explanations and paragraphs it’s holding onto (ego-space), which is exhausting, and helps me to tune into a different part of me (heart space). Instant calm.

I can’t help but wonder what would happen if more of us had the ability to release from our minds / ego spaces - and switch into that softer fresh inner space … Of course I believe that art can get us there.

I love the mistake-blurry photo — maybe that’s what it looks like for us to shift our consciousness from head to heart.

Imagine if all of us always built everything from that space.

Stephania erecta

Esta pieza es una reinterpretación en papel de la Stephania erecta, una planta singular, redonda y delicada que parece flotar sobre sí misma. Cada hoja está recortada y pintada a mano, buscando capturar su esencia, más que su copia exacta. El bulbo, elaborado en papel maché y acrílico, da vida a una escultura ligera, sensible y única.

La he presentado en dos versiones: una plantada en un coco natural y otra en una pieza de cerámica japonesa, ambas pensadas para espacios tranquilos, donde los objetos cuenten algo sin hacer ruido.

Ninguna es igual a otra. Y aunque puedo recrearlas, siempre cambian, como todo lo que se hace a mano.
