Ann: Leslie has anniversaries for everything. “Zoo day” was the first time we went to the zoo together. “Double date day,” it was the first time we went on a double date. “Daniel Day-Lewis day.” “Talk-like-a-pirate day.” “Talk-like-a-Pittsburgh-pirate day,” which why and how? This calendar was last year’s calendar day present, celebrating the first time she ever bought me a calendar.

I have not been able to stop thinking about how Parks and Rec had Leslie drop the line "I lost my father when I was ten" and then proceeded to never bring it up again.

Like before this we knew her dad was dead but I feel like they made it seem like he had maybe passed away more recently. The only piece of evidence I have of this is that in a season one episode Leslie says, "[my dad] lives in Florida. In a cemetery." This to me, implied that he had retired to Florida and died there. It also gives the impression that her parents might have been divorced as her Mom still lives in Pawnee.

However none of this is the case, so now I cannot stop thinking about how Leslie lost her dad at ten and on top of that she wouldn't even have been able to visit her father's grave because he was buried in Florida (I have to assume he was from there).

Then I start thinking about what could have happened to him, like was it sudden or was he ill? Also what was he like? Leslie's mom is a very no nonsense type of person, and doesn't possess Leslie's relentless optimism, is that something she inherited from her dad?

Then I think about how loosing her dad at such a young age would have affected Leslie. She goes from having two parents to then being raised by a single mother who has a very important job. So was she left alone often? Did she not have a lot of pictures of him, and this is why she is so obsessed with documenting everything in scrapbooks??

I am just endlessly fascinated by this pretty important piece of character lore that is mentioned once, but if you think about it could explain a lot about why Leslie is the way she is.
