The drum kit on the left is a Ludwig Centennial Zep in green sparkle. It’s modeled after John Bonham’s drum kit (hence “zep”). I’m using a 14x5 pearl brass sensitone snare. For cymbals I have 16 and 18 inch crashes, both paiste 2002, and the ride is a paiste signature precision 22 inch heavy ride. The hi-hats are 15 inch zildjian hi-hats. I’m unsure of what particular type but I think they’re vintage new beats.

On the right is the drum kit I’ve had for years. It started off as just a pearl roadshow with the bass drum, last 2 rack toms, and the last floor tom. But I’ve added a yamaha birch 8 inch tom and a pearl export 14 inch floor tom. I also have a 14x8 PDP aluminum snare, which I’ve modified to take regular tension rods, and I’ve replaced the top wooden hoop with a regular 2.3 mm steel hoop. The third rack tom I’ve modified into a concert tom by removing the bottom head and taking off the bottom lugs to avoid rattling. I also have 2 Ddrum deccabons off to the side, along with another 13 inch modified concert tom.

I have two hi-hats on this kit. To the left is a pair of 13 inch sabian paragon hats. And on the right is a custom soultone pair of 16 inch hihats. The crashes are a 16 inch and 20 inch pair of paiste 900 crashes, a 17 inch sabian XSR thin crash, a stack I made from some cheap splashes, a 21 inch zildjian z custom megabell ride, and a wuhan 20 inch china.

I’ve built these two up for about 7 years now. I’ve been privileged enough to have access to multiple drum kits and afford private lessons. Not entirely sure why I’m making this post but if you’re thinking about learning drums, please do.

PDP Platinum Vs Concept Best Review

Finding a good drum kit begins with finding the right brand. And in this case, PDP is one name you can rely on for beginners to the intermediate drum set.

PDP Platinum and PDP Concept are two of their most acclaimed products. They both have their advantages and limitations.

It is quite hard to say whether Platinum is better than Concept maple. Sound is a very subjective matter, and everyone has their own views.

However, I can approach this from personal experience.

I recently ordered this new, but, damaged, PDP DW Concept hi-hat stand for the third of what it costs new. I use the PDP DW Concept Direct Drive bass drum pedal as a spare and I wanted the stand to match. All I had to do was reattach the base casting. JB Weld Steel Stick did the trick. Definitely recommend it for quick repairs on hardware.

I love these @tunerfishluglocks! Though popularly used for snares, I hit my toms really hard, and the lugs tend to come undone. PDP M5 Drum Set Best Review

Fans of D.W. drum will be glad to have something cheaper but with comparable quality. PDP drums are a cheaper version of D.W. But that does not mean they are bad. The design and construction quality of D.W. products have been retained. The only different thing is the construction process, which affects the price. In this guide, I will be reviewing the PDP M5 Drum kit. This is one of the most affordable and yet useful drum kits I have ever seen. Come along.
