Mapleshade's Curse expanded!

Update: v1.1 Duskfur, Curlfeather and Podlight have been added to the post, and Reedwhisker's description has changed due to potential changes.

Update: 1.2 Hm, seems I can do something with Curlfeather.... Other than give her the curled ears she deserves.

Since this is such a heavy one I wanted to show off more of it and how it effects the cats it touches. It is important to note that this Curse is STILL active.

Appleshine - Death in childbirth, passing the curse on to her children: Rainkit, and Rookkit, Rookkit would soon join her.

Shypaw - Bad fish causing her death. This did however make Riverclan 10x more vigilant about food poisoning signs, later saving more lives.

Duskwater - She lived a lonely life, too afraid of the tragic fate of her siblings to do anything she deemed too risky. She watched Rookkit fade away and Rainkit grow into a vain diva of a cat, Rainflower. She thought going to the dirt place was safe that night as the rain poured down.

Rainflower - Beautiful, graceful Rainflower was always told she was perfect. She wouldn't accept anything less than perfect, and abused her son Stormkit. When she demanded he be renamed, Hailstar named him an apprentice early, saying that his crooked jaw was something to be proud that he survived. She was named Rotflower that day, and her later death was a painful one. She walks in the Dark Forest as Crookedstar does not forgive her.

Crookedstar - His fall in the river should have killed him, Mapleshade saved him that day before she knew who his mother was, being in a good mood that day. She trained him brutally hard, made sure he praised Riverclan above all else. She made sure that he was picked for deputy after his father retired, but made him (nearly) miss his father's passing. She attracted the dog that knocked Rotflower into the river. She didn't kill his mate or children, but she gave Willowbreeze extra energy, making her not want to go into the nursery until she was forced to, which put Willowbreeze at risk, though it didn't contribute to any deaths.

Oakheart - He hated the attention Rotflower gave him, it drove him up the wall. So Mapleshade turned his head towards a pretty blue-gray molly at a Gathering, and let that play out however it would, she really had no idea what would come of it, leaving it to pure chance. If they had children she would come to haunt them but if not she was down to at least watch the drama.

Willowkit and Minnowkit - No curse. They were going to die anyway, slightly risky pregnancy or not. They were goners.

Mosskit - The smallest barer of the Curse. It literally just gave her softer fur, so a bit harder for Bluefur to groom her. More an annoyance than anything but didn't cause her death. Mapleshade's curse doesn't truly activate until a cat is older than Patch Petal and Larch.

Silverstream - Giving birth was incredibly difficult and damn near killed her until Mudfur managed to show up, guided by Willowbreeze's spirit. She then had to watch her clan fall into a horrible dogma of xenophobia over something as stupid as "pure blood" once her father died. This was the clan that waged wars over kits with even a drop of Riverclan blood in their veins, she watches her cousin and best friend be slaughtered, her children almost being taken with them before the cats were free. Her mate would be captured by twolegs and be left behind, Feathertail died in the mountains, Stormfur left, her later kits would struggle as well before she would finally lose her hearing and pass from an odd illness herself...

Mistystar - Hers is perhaps the most cruel. A life lived for too long can be just as terrible as a swift death. Her foster mother forgetting her before being found dead, her friend, son and brother were murdered before her eyes, her birth mother dying just as they had gotten to know her, her other son dying in The Great Battle, and grandchildren suffering horribly with her helpless to stop it... Her death may have been coming from a different curse, but one could easily believe it was Starclan having mercy.

Stonefur - His life was okay, average, and fulfilling enough for him. But watching his beloved clan fall into violent hatred and persecution of any cats Tigerstar so pleased was torture. He would never lay a claw on an apprentice, and paid Tigerstar's bloody price.

Piketail - Losing the tip of his tail as a kitten wasn't bad enough, he had to go and nearly poison himself with a poisoned rat too! Eventually his risky behaviors would land him in trouble when he attacks Leopardstar after the death of his uncle and mentor.

Perchcloud - Another long life but a slow, slightly clumsy one. One could even day he was untouched by the curse other than the occasional scrape until Mapleshade killed him during the Great Battle.

Primroseheart - A rocky start and a tough journey to the lake got her down, and she considered leaving to become a kittypet until she saw that her clanmate Hawkfrost was quite troubled. The two bonded over the weight over legacy, and feeling weird about their parents, and eventually had a litter of kits. Reedkit, Swankit, and Cloudkit.

Reedwhisker - Poor Reedwhisker. He wanted so badly to be leader of his beloved clan. Between his difficult birth and nearly drowning during his cruelly extended apprenticeship, he set himself on the straight and narrow, a career man who was so excited when he was made Mistystar's second deputy after Pouncetail retired, going on to mentor his own great-niece, Curlfeather. Unfortunately, he would never see his dream recognized, as his life was cut short by an unknown assassin just as he would be set to take on leadership.

Stormfur - The trauma he endured changed him from a cheerful apprentice into a colder soul. Not mean, but not social. His loyalty lay with Feathertail, not Riverclan. It was only Featherpaw saying she wanted to go back that made him go at all. Her death broke his heart completely, only healed by Small Brook's love. If the Curse has followed him to the Tribe, I cannot say.

Feathertail - Though her faith in Riverclan was a bit shaken by the horrific things she went through, Feathertail stayed strong, and was proud of who she was. While Silverstream could never go back home, Featherpaw had begged to. She was haunted with visions of the Bonehill, but fought through it to befriend Hawkpaw, Mothpaw and the newly named Frogpaw. Her death came swiftly, but it was not of the curse. Her death was always fate itself.

Duskfur - Duskfur was named after her ancestor, Duskwater, though was very much the opposite. She trained on the Dark Forest, and almost fought on their side until she realized they would be attacking kits. At that point she turned herself around, but is still more of a Tiger Law supporter, as the ones in Riverclan couldn't get to her father, Hawkfrost, they got to his (at the time) only daughter. Who knows what she is up to now, and with whom?

Reedkit - Primroseheart and Hawkfrost's courageous firstborn also fell victim to greencough just days before her apprentice ceremony. Whether that is a curse or just plain bad luck is unknown.

Swankit - Mapleshade did not orchestrate this. No Dark Forest Cat would do what happened to young Swankit. The trap should never have been laid at the Lake.

Cloudsnap - Mapleshade fed her name suggestion to Mistystar, that was all that was needed. When Cloudsnap trained in the Dark Forest, it was her anger and unresolved grief that drove her to it. She made her choice in the end, to fight for Starclan, but her life will be a hard one. Her future children may bear the Curse as well.

Briarlight - The firstborn in Silverstream and Graystripe's second litter has had it ROUGH. Nearly being bitten by an adder as a kit, then her mentor dying from the Drought (she is reassigned to Sorreltail after before finally a tree crushing her spine and taking Longtail with it. Briarlight was free after that, and though she nearly had her life taken from sickness, she rose to be Thunderclan's first ever Mediator.

Blossomfall - She was mentored personally by Mapleshade, who whispered in her ears that her clanmates didn't care about her, that they would let Briarlight die, that she would be alone... It got to her, and she began to train to be better. However, it backfired when she became mates with Ivypool, their love being stronger than Blossomfall's fear. Blossomfall turned on the Dark Forest and helped to battle them away. She has since shed the curse, hopefully it won't pass on to Bristlefrost, Flipclaw, Thriftear and Plumstone.

Bumblestripe - His life would be a lonely one. He didn't connect well with any clanmates aside from his sisters, feeling as if no one understood him until Dovepaw was friendly towards everyone. He fell in love with Dovepaw, and chased after her (along with training in the Dark Forest) until Dovewing finally gave a hesitant yes. His own arrogance drove her away, not any family curse. He fell in with the sympathetic "Bramblestar", and his death at Tigerstar's claws came swiftly, and not undeserving.

Podlight - While is extremely sensitive sense of taste may just be a 'him' thing, Podlight suffers from brutal wounds during A Vision Of Shadows when he fights against the Kin, all of which get infected. He ends up losing half of his tail, and loses some sight in his right eye, along with several scars. While he is now considered quite handsome, he has sadly fallen into the drama of what is going on in Riverclan.

Curlfeather - Curlfeather is a unique cat. Suffering from nightmares and visions of the Great Battle that took place when she was young, along with the horrible flood that happened during her transition from Kit to Paw, and things around her. Curlpaw was apprenticed to Reedwhisker, and did everything she could to be perfect. When Jayclaw died, her heart broke, but she stayed strong with good resolve to raise her kits. After all, that's what a good Leader would do...

so i noticed in the allegiances one of Leopardstar's siblings was saved. Will she be like Leopardstar?

Yes! Waterfern is Leopardstar's sister who I saved because Riverclan has a SHOCKINGLY shallow genetic pool. So many cats just appear and disappear, and though I will occasionally have characters with No Discernable Heritage, Riverclan has it ticked up to a degree that is painful.

Waterfern is a major character in Leopardstar's Strength, a shy trans molly who only starts finding her feet when she stops trying to emulate her sister. Leopardstar will tell you that she is weak, but as we know, Leopardstar is wrong, and though her Super Edition is guided by her arrogant thoughts, you physically see that Waterfern is happy. She is loved. She really likes being "outdoorsy" (as much as a Clan Cat can be) and has some friends, namely Reedtail and Lilystem.

She builds connections where Leopardstar burns them down.

She is extremely uncomfortable with Tigerclan, and is terrified of what will happen to everyone around her, opposing her sister. She is probably the only cat who got a genuine good thing out of Tigerclan. She meets Tangleburr, daughter of Lizardstripe who enjoys being posted in Riverclan's camp. The 2 hate what is going on and decide to help the imprisoned cats, freeing Mistyfoot, Perchcloud, Silverstream, Featherpaw and Stormpaw with an elaborate little trick.

Tangleburr stays in Riverclan after everything falls apart, and is Waterfern's mate! They have 2 litters of their own, the first being only child Mintwhisker (Mintfur RC), and the second, much later litter being Flykit, Blackwater, and Whistlekit. Flykit and Whistlekit were stillborn, but Blackwater makes it! Whereas Leopardstar fell in love with Sunfish, and never got over the love she had for her, despite Sunfish never being interested in her that way.

Waterfern is very much not like her bigger, meaner sister, and that makes her a very happy cat.

Fun facts about some background characters in WCR but I hit the random character button on the wiki a bunch of times

Ashfoot

Ashfoot now gives Onestar a life for Strength, and one to Harestar for Confidence. She is now the daughter of Stagleap and Darkfoot and was born through a surrogacy.

Hawkwing

Hawkwing is now the son of Sharpclaw and Ebonyclaw, and he is an expert with clay once he starts working with it. He also is a wonderful grandpa to Needle and Root.

Ratscar

Ratscar is around in Into The Wild, the reason he isn't in the allegiances? He is out on a little quest right now, about to earn the name Ratscar. He promised Brokenstar some more warriors. He will be in the End Allegiances. He later takes care of his little sister, Snowbird.

Dappletail

Dappletail's bloodline is still alive and well through her surviving son, Cricketfang. She also mentored Tigerclaw's sister, Mistfang. Lot of cats around her get the Fang suffix...

Poppyfrost

Poppyfrost was very worried about her children, and kind of set Molekit and Cherrykit's apprenticeship back a bit (reference to the mistake in canon). She also has a very close relationship with her mentor and uncle, Sootfur! Rainwhisker mentors Honeyfern.

Mistystar

Mistystar does not have a mate, instead she simply has a sire. She wanted kits but she didn't want a mate, no one in Riverclan interested her. The sire of Perchcloud and Piketail is Blackclaw, similar to Canon. He also sired Primroseheart and Reedwhisker, but soon after she found out she was pregnant, a large dark brown tabby strolled up to Riverclan...

Runningnose

Runningnose had... a CAT allergy! Cats can be allergic to other cats. He of all his siblings had the best relationship with his father, who, while quiet, was quite proud of his son for being a medicine cat. He was sad when his sister stayed in Riverclan, but was happy to get updates about her from his buddy, Mudfur.

Tornear

Tornear gave a life to Harestar for loyalty. Though he was shocked initially when someone so young was picked by Onestar, he was also proud of his former apprentice, and he very quickly knew that it was a good choice when Harespring gave comfort to a grieving Featherpelt, who lost a litter of kits due to stress.

Missing Kits, Part 3/?

Part 1 and 2

Voletooth - Loudbelly and Dawnbright only have a single litter in WCR, that being Voletooth and his siblings. He is a spicy little guy, plump like his dad, and very pious. He is also an expert fisher! Women want him, fish fear him. He is mates with Graymist!

Stonestream - Now a mottled ginger tom with glossy fur, he saves his sister Splashpaw when she tries to prove herself, but loses his front right leg after getting it tangled in an old net. He is ace, having a good time just training Apprentices and cooking fish. Even with his missing foreleg, he is a very strong fighter.

Splashpaw - Now a white molly with yellow eyes and ginger flecks, she survives nearly drowning after trying to prove herself. As punishment, she is assigned to den-building duty. She is made into a warrior after a week and a half, and her warrior name is... Splashfrost! Sadly, she is killed during The Great Battle, but not after giving Thistleclaw some hell.

Graymist - Now the daughter of Sheeptail (OC, offspring of Vixenleap and Swancall) and Biscuitfall (Another cat who came from the Wafflepaw vote, joins Riverclan during Firestar's Quest). She is very loyal to Riverclan and was made a warrior a little early! Her mentor was Sedgecreek.

Otterheart - Now a dark rose-cream with big amber eyes, she is Graymist's sister. Big femme lesbian with a love for cooking, she also has a kit of her own! She is mates with Dapplenose. Her mentor was Perchcloud.

Mistystar's kits have already been covered, Piketail, Perchcloud and Primroseheart.

Icewing - Lilystem and Reedtail's daughter, now. They are a loving couple and raised her to be a lovely lady. She now has tufted ears and very long fur. They also now have a son named Beetlepaw, but he leaves to become a kittypet (getting renamed Patches). His nephew, Beetlewhisker, looks just like him and is named after him!

Pinefur - Now the daughter of Skyheart and Longshade. She would never know her father, but carried love for him nonetheless. She was mentored by Loudbelly (who is no longer an elder). Sadly while she was a wonderful mentor to Robinwing, she passed away during The Fourth Apprentice due to a painful lump in her stomach.

Maggottail - Not a missing kit but FUCK ME we need more non-shadowclan villains. He was Dashpaw of Skyclan, he did take a bit from a fox he angered, it did get a horrible infection, including the maggots, which he was bullied for. He is a cautionary tale to others. "Beware the cat you bite, for they may bite you back harder." All 4 cats that bullied him would perish horribly. He knew he was fucked when he went on trial and one of the jury members was a victim's father.

Emberfoot - Now the son of Pinefoot (OC) and Tornear and also now a tabby, he is mentored by Whitetail, and learned a lot from her. He is very close with Pinefoot, and would be anything to make her happy.

Willowclaw - Now a dark ginger molly, her fierce nature got her a warrior name early, she throughly impressed her mentor, Ryestalk. She becomes Flyleap's platonic mate, and they have 2 kits: Antpelt and Leaftail.

Rustlepaw - Now a silver tabby molly with a white belly and chest, and the daughter of Appledawn and Runningbrook. Originally mentored by Eaglefoot, but given to Nightcloud to finish up her training after Eaglefoot dies. She just needed some more hunting skills, and though Nightcloud would normally be WAY too young for this, Tallstar wanted someone who was "in with the young cats" to help the grieving little molly. She becomes Rustlewish.

Drizzlepaw - Now a pale rose-cream tabby molly with striking blue eyes, she is apprenticed to Tornear, the same cat who trained her dad! Her warrior name is Drizzlecloud, and becomes mates with Gorseflame (Gorsepaw), having kittens with him.

Aspenfall and Plumclaw - Yes they are mates, Plumclaw did not make it through the raid, she was killed. Aspenfall is a lost Windclan Elder, and while he has buried his mate, he can't find Windclan right now. His mind is not well, the trauma and age have caught up to him. They're too old to be having young children, so now they are the grandparents to Runningbrook. Runningbrook's mother, Shadefall, died during the Windclan raid.

Robinwing of Windclan - Now the daughter of Bristlethorn and Thrushwing and the sister of Dewspots. She now looks just like her mom (ginger and white), but with her uncle Stoneclaw's blue eyes. Dewspots has one blue eye like Stoneclaw, and a yellow eye like Bristle and Thrush. They are born during Firestar's Quest.

Tawnyfur - Rabbitear and Pigeonflight's firstborn. She is a brilliant warrior and very good at Glyphs, a big career ahead of her! That is... Until her life is cut short by a Bloodclan warrior, Leon.

Webfoot - Now the son of Larksplash and sired by Hawkheart, Webfoot is Whitetail's rival, as a reference to their perceived sibling relation. He was so mad when she got her name first! He wants nothing more than to make his mom proud but the old molly always tells him plainly: "I already am."

Whitetail as we know is just the daughter of Sorrelshine, but her father is now a Riverclan sire, Whitefang.

Gorsetail, not the genderfluid one - Now renamed to Eveningtail, he is a nervous, skinny tawny tom with orange eyes and a long tail. Hig parents aren't important enough to enter The Named Zone, sadly, but this little fella is a cool guy. Despite his nerves, he is a wonderful father to his and Dewspots's kittens, Owlwhisker and Weaselfur, staying in the nursery with them.

Cranberrypaw - Now the daughter of Rabbitear and Pigeonflight! She is mentored by Webfoot, and an absolute bundle of cheery energy. In fact, so much so that she is now a MAIN CHARACTER IN TNP! She falls for Smokepaw while they journey, and joins Shadowclan, even after his fall, becoming Cranberrynose. She waits for him, and cheers the absolute loudest for him when he finally returns. She is now a pale ginger tabby molly with a bright pink nose and icy blue eyes.

Thistlepaw - Now looks like a copy of Pigeonflight with thicker fur, but with bright green eyes. Named for the way her fur spiked up when she was born, though it smoothed out as she grew. She was Oatwhisker's apprentice, and she saved Gorsepaw's life from badgers during Twilight when Gorsepaw froze from fright. She drove it off, but her injuries were too severe. Onestar gave her a Dying Warrior Ceremony, naming her Thistlewind, embodying the true spirit of a Windclan Warrior. Thistleheart is named after her.

Bonus 2 Tribe Cats!

Slant is now Slanted Boulder, he was a HUGE boy! Pure solid gray with big blue eyes. Handsome gentle boy who went by Slant. He died during Fading Echoes due to a painful lump in his lower belly. The Tribes are gifted healers, but even they can't fight that. They only gave him less pain.

Fall was actually the Snow-Watcher from the Tribe of Snowy Peaks during TNP and Outcast. She was pure white with yellow eyes. She lived a long happy life and died at 24 years old during Long Shadows, she passed in her sleep. Her name was Falling Snowflake, Fall for short.

Longshade!

Longshade is a long gray tom with a black back, a stump tail, and blue eyes. He is from Riverclan, and was mentored by Lakeshine. He was born with that stump tail, by the way. His mother actually died right before Into The Wild began, she is named Sharpleaf, and she died from prey sickness.

He is a very proud fisher, and hoping to one day be made Prime Hunter. He is an ambitious little hothead, but not unfriendly. If he likes you, you'll know, because he will be loudly singing your praises.

His friend Lilystem has a crush on Reedtail? "Did you know she SAVED my LIFE the other day? I slipped and nearly fell into the rapids, but this HERO grabbed me before that could happen." He's always telling you about Skyheart, who he loves more than life itself. The bride and her goofy-ass groom.

He can be a lot, but he means well.

Sharpleaf, his mother, was a... Controversial character in Riverclan circles. Always known as a bit of a loner type, never really having many friends outside of occasionally sharing a carp with Leopardfur, and she was not afraid to voice her opinions on a subject. Sharpleaf wasn't popular, and it only got worse when she called Queen's Rights when she gave birth to her single child, Longkit.

She told the Clan that he had been Honor Sired, and that Riverclan was lucky for it.

Her rights as a Queen were not infringed upon, but good lord it kicked up a rumor mill. Maybe Longshade is a hothead put of desperation to make the whispers stop.

Near the end of Sharpleaf's life, she confessed to the one cat she thought was her friend a piece of information she should never have shared.

"I met a loner. His name was Thorns, and he was so kind. We were mates for a while... He's Longshade's father. You'll keep my secret, won't you Leopardfur?"

She didn't know she was signing her son's death warrant.

He was imprisoned with Silverstream, Featherpaw, Stormpaw, Stonefur, Mistyfoot, Piketail and Perchcloud, Mistyfoot's sons.

Skyheart was spared, he made her pretend to not be his mate. It broke both their hearts but all he wanted was for her to be safe. During his imprisonment, he gave and scrap of food he could get to Mistyfoot, Featherpaw and Stormpaw. He wasn't going to let 2 kids and a pregnant woman go hungry. It didn't matter how hungry he felt, he felt even more strongly that they needed it more. He watched as Stonefur was murdered, then as Piketail, Mistyfoot's first born, went into a rage and attacked Leopardstar, getting killed personally by Tigerstar himself...

A large regret of the rebels is that they couldn't spring the prisoners free before poor Longshade starved to death.

It was only afterwards, after the dust cleared and negotiations with Bloodclan began, that Skyheart noticed she was feeling a bit... Off. She had much more of an appetite despite her grief, but had never felt so nauseated.

Mudfur was extremely gentle when he told her she was pregnant. It felt like a joke, not a cruel one, but like her big silly husband had pulled one last little prank.

Thought you were alone? Wrong! Have some daughters!

Their first-born is Pinefur, the allegiances only cat. Their other daughter is a short-tempered permanent Queen named Flutterspots, who has 4 children herself: Dapplenose, Pouncetail, then later on has Spikeleaf (Pikepaw BOTC) and Fennelkit, who sadly succumbs to Fading Kitten Syndrome only a few days later. She calls Queen's Rights for both litters.

Longshade's legacy remains to this day, and he will be one of the angels The Blessed Four summon when The Great Battle breaks.

They really were odd with Mistyfoot's kids huh.

She is pregnant in early TBP but Reedwhisker is implied to be a young (at least from his attitude) apprentice in TNP... And she has no canonical other litter.

Either Reedwhisker was born later than Pikepaw, Perchkit and Primrosepaw, Mistyfoot adopted him, or he REALLY fucked his warrior assignments. Leopardstar could also just hate him...

I think I'm gonna split the litters into 2. Pikepaw (Piketail) and Perchkit (Perchcloud) are litter 1, Reedwhisker and Primrosepaw (Primroseheart) are litter 2.

Piketail is murdered by Tigerstar for trying to attack Leopardstar after Stonefur is killed. Mistyfoot is so stressed out by it that she ends up giving birth in ThunderClan's camp early when she and the others are freed. Primrosekit and Reedkit are okay though. Perchcloud ends up dying during the Great Battle.

Blackclaw isn't their father either, as far as I'm concerned she doesn't have notable mate.
