donations will go towards:
1. Covering the expenses of accommodation in Cairo, Egypt, throughout the visa and biometric process.
2. Meeting the cost of flight tickets from Cairo to Canada.
3. Securing affordable and suitable housing.
4. Addressing monthly necessities such as groceries, utilities, clothing, and shoes.
5. Ensuring access to healthcare and therapy, crucial for the well-being of our family members.
6. Providing monthly financial support until they secure employment.
as of April 10, they have been able to start the process of acquiring visas and passports.

there is a nationwide (Canada fyi) anti "trans ideology" protest being organized on Wednesday Sept 20 at every parliamentary (federal) and legislative (provincial) building in the country and they are also calling for local organizing too so even in non-capital cities and towns you may run into these protests.
please keep yourselves safe on this day and be aware of this. and if you have the means and can do so without putting yourself at risk (or feel comfortable taking such a risk, especially if you're an ally to the community) consider organizing or participating in counter protests. stay safe out there
they're calling it the 1 Million March For Children I believe so keep an eye out for that kind of signage

been wondering if some people prefer to wear a specific colour that's not their favourite but maybe collect things in their favourite colour and decorate their space with it or something. personally I love pink and wear it often!

there's going to be an ASL simulcast of the Stanley Cup finals this month - featuring real time commentary from Deaf commentators & graphic visualizations to help communicate things like crowd nose levels, hit intensities, when the puck hits the post/crossbar... awesome. you do need ESPN+ or Sportsnet+ to see the feed, tho if you have either of those in your (family's) cable package you should be able to log in to either website with your cable provider login.
some details here (including signs for the Oilers & Panthers, and some hockey terminology):
and more details in the news release her:

had a dream that for some reason I had a packer (not something I've ever personally felt any desire to have) but instead of like. wearing it properly I had it on a keychain hanging from my belt loop and my mom was like PUT THAT AWAY 😭

another game of frustratingly uneven reffing 🥲 sorry but it's just insane to me to miss two high sticks to the face and an obvious embellishment, and at the same time be calling every little thing on our players, and it feels particularly biased against our two Black players. like. come the fuck on.

oh my god so I went with my friend to see a mystery movie screening where the theatre plays a movie before its official release date but doesn't tell u what it is so it's a surprise
and first, in the opening credits, it was clearly setting up to be a midcentury period drama. which is already incredibly up my alley, I love shit happening to characters in the 50s and 60s. I usually prefer my media not to focus on heterosexual relationships but I make exceptions for good period drama.
and then I was like 🧐 surely I'm reading into the characters' behaviour too much because I've been reading so many gay romance novels lately (including the one I'm in the middle of that takes place at like. the same time as the movie). I'm looking at this with my gay goggles. surely my mystery suprise movie isn't gonna turn out to be a gay midcentury drama. that's too perfect.
and yet. and yet.
BAM. men are kissing. awesome. and they're fucking. and they're acknowledging their feelings. and it's beautiful and gutwrenching and then HANG ON. BEAUTIFUL BUTCH WOMEN? SECRET LESBIAN "BOOK CLUB" MEETING? DYKE SEX? NO FUCKING WAY.
so yeah. surprise. the mystery movie was actually a gay midcentury drama that broke my heart a little bit but mostly pieced it back together and it was Everything.
and there were even horses and high stakes gambling!

made pickle lemonade and it's. actually so good. (made this in a 16 oz deli container) muddle a lemon (or just add the equivalent of one lemon worth of juice) with 2 ½ tbsp sugar (can stir in more after if you want it sweeter but this was imo perfect as someone who often finds regular lemonade too sweet) and then add like a shot glass worth of pickle juice (I think I ended up with a little more than that), fill up the rest with ice cubes and water and then put a lid on and shake it. or stir vigorously if you don't have a lid for your big container or simply can't shake it. then drink and enjoy

sorry I'm going to jockpost
last year during the record-tying win streak, I said that we are entering a golden age of the Oilers that will be talked about for years to come even if we didn't end up winning the cup that year. it felt like something special was picking up. and then we had a deep cup run where we lost in game 7.
and this year i got a little nervous about all the line switch ups in regular season but I was unfamiliar with Knoblauch's game... because now in the playoffs they can lose a guy or two and scramble the lines mid game and play like it's nothing. they can bring up a player or two and shift things around and play like they've been playing like that all year .. because they basically have!
the 2025 oilers have some of the most incredible depth you could see in a team, and they're FUN to watch (even tho it's stressful). this is not a team being carried by 4 star forwards, this is a team stacked with guys who can hold their own. and I cannot fucking wait to see them hold the cup next month.

id: a digital collage piece with a background of green rolling hills and a cloudy blue sky (not unlike the classic windows background) but flipped so that the hills are at the top. there are two slices of clementine taking up most of the space on the page; text on them says "I love you." and "I'm glad I exist." underneath the large slices is a diagram with 4 steps, featuring the slices with the same text as above.
"step 1: find the beginning" is under a complete half of a clementine, with text on the membrane between the slices that says "and here is all the love I want to give you". "step 2: peel gently" shows the "I love you" slice gone from the clementine half. "step 3: share the other half" shows the "I'm glad I exist" slice also gone. "step 4: let it go" shows a white outline where the clementine peel used to be.

id: a digital collage of Edmonton Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner on a blue and orange background. in the middle is a photo taken from directly above the goalie crease showing him in the middle of a save, with the photo cut out around the blue paint. shiny balloon letters above and below that cutout say "Skinny Legend". above and below that cutout are an assortment of of action shots and a few with his helmet off, smiling or making a silly face. star and heart stickers are scattered throughout, as well as a sticker that says "stay weird" and a heart that says "you got this.". /end id
making digital collages of my hockey cuties is my latest hobby 😁

oh you're watching a stream? what's your favourite? mine is the one just outside of town and I like to look out for aquatic insects and watch the way the water moves around the rocks... my favourite streamers are the tadpoles and the benthic invertebrates :)

god what a fucking day. I somehow managed to miss a singular joint that was somewhere in my car when I was cleaning it out for my trip, and my car got searched at the USA border crossing because I had houseplants with me, and they found the joint so not only did I get denied entry but I also got fined 700 CAD for failing to declare it and I had to get fingerprinted by american border patrol :') the kicker is that I was crossing into NY which is a legal state (I know it doesn't matter for border crossing purposes because it's federal jurisdiction so it's different, it just. oof. makes it feel worse lol). so now I'm out a huge amount of money for something that makes me feel so incredibly stupid 😭
#petchyposting#and tbh. it was scary because i didn't know what happens when u get caught with weed at the border#literally worried i was gonna be arrested or barred from entry forever so at least neither of those happened
