i thought about this forever ago already but it's still wild to me that Carrie Mark will have the ONLY song with lyrics in petscop directly associated with her, and it has these words:

"I got a new life, you would hardly recognize me, i'm so glad."

"For so many years, I've wondered who you are"

"Living without you, I've left you, oh-oh-oh"

"But where do you belong?"

it's such a good song and it fits super well considering everything but also, i feel like when/if Paul ever finds that song again it will give him a horrible attack of some sorts. million yard stare while the funky pop song plays

going back to this to ramble on a bit about my personal interpretation of petscop

i like to think Paul has Lina's face but Marvin's face structure, Marvin can only ever see Lina in Paul's face but Paul can only ever see Marvin when he looks in a mirror. Marvin on a subconscious level is likely aware of the fact that he's very fixated on Lina's features only, he finds it a bit repulsive that he "tainted" Lina's reincarnation with his own features, which is probably a mask for his own wavering self esteem/image that he buries beneath the facade of a threatening authority figure. He is, after all (depending on your interpretation of petscop), still chasing the rebirth ritual and trying to take control over/kidnap two grown adults because of events from decades ago.

Paul may or may not (it's very vague) have ever even met Lina long enough to recognize her face in his, it's just his own in his eyes, Marvin's projections get lost on him as he doesn't realize that they're seeing two completely different people, he never sees just Him in himself for a long time, always defined by something or someone else against his will. He might've not even come up with Paul by himself, taking it from a videogame character or seeing someone from a movie with the name he looked up to, but it'd still be his first choice in taking on his own identity for himself in a positive manner.

anyway sorry if this is a bit jumbled, hope it makes sense and didn't say anything inaccurate, tis is just what i see and choose to interpret into petscop but everyone's own ideas are equally as valid as my own, sincerely: "get a job old man stay away from her (him)" to marvin petscop (jokey) (reference)
