IT'S A DOUBLE FEATURE BABY!!!
Tumblr media
So these aren't so much OCs as they are my interpretation of the Link from Faces of Evil and Wand of Gamelon (known here as Koridai) and Nevermatch's interpretation of the Link from the 80s cartoon (known here as Courage)
Because of this, there's not much to say at all, really, though I will point out a few things about Koridai, such as: the people in his Hyrule tend to view him as a joke or only being wanted when needed for hero work; he knows this and he hates it; being trapped in a mirror and literally broken out has left physical scars on the right side of his face, his wrists, ankles, and neck; the scars on his face mimic a broken mirror; his right eye is now completely reflective like a mirror; and he can see through magical disguises through closing his left eye and keeping his right open, although he can't tell what it's supposed to be, just that it's not what it appears to be.
I would give some notes about Courage from Nevermatch, but she didn't have any when I asked, so we're just gonna be stuck with the rat, I guess ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
(Add-in note from Nevermatch: All I got is that, during the time between the end of the show and the beginning of LU, Courage has gotten a bit more mature. Not too much, just enough to tame the urge to annoy every living thing within a two-mile radius ;P)

So you're in Canada, which of these prices is gonna be the too expensive price that you're gonna see at the store? (Side note: The original version gave away the vertical stand with the console, so it's really an extra $200 + whatever the cost of the vertical stand is.)

This Man

Is a king, a father, a tyrant, a lover, a warrior who strives for peace, a convicted felon, a girl boss, a lazy bum, a paranoid victim of his own government, unreasonable, reasonable, a treasure to mankind, an enigma, but most importantly, he wonders what's for dinner?

we meme a lot on phillips cdi games, and rightfully so, but I maintain to this day that "my boy, this peace is what all true warriors strive for" is a fucking kickass line, it owns, it's genuinely profound, it has more actual meaning than 90% of lines said in any "real" zelda game, it's great, and it's kinda a shame that it's in. y'know. that context

F-Zero Novel "And Then, to the Gods of Speed" Plot Summary
I just read through the obscure official tie-in novel for F-Zero from 1992, which has very little information about it online.
DISCLAIMER: Since I can't read Japanese, I had to use my phone to translate, which certainly didn't yield stellar results, but I was so curious about what was actually inside the book since there's so little information about it other than 1. It's a darker book, 2. The protagonist is named Swan Lee, and 3. It involves Captain Falcon's death, and I just couldn't wait for a full fan translation to sate my curiosity. The goal was basically to get an overall idea of what was going on, which I think I managed to get.
So, for those of you who have been just as curious as I was about this book, I'll be going chapter by chapter, giving a fairly comprehensive summary of the plot. There's a lot of digressions throughout with worldbuilding about the socioeconomics and mechanics of the setting, which I'll mostly be skipping unless they directly relate to the plot.
I want to reiterate that it's entirely likely that I get some things wrong, like perhaps names or plot points. The ending in particular I'm not super sure about because, well, let's just say it gets pretty... weird, you'll see. It comes across to me like it might have been rushed, but that's just idle speculation.
One more thing: I knew going in that Captain Falcon was supposed to die and this would be a darker book, but damn! I was legitimately shocked at how they handled him here, I could not believe that Nintendo approved of this direction. It could have only happened during that pre '93 Mario movie/Phillips CDI era where Nintendo didn't give much oversight as to how other people handled the characters.
Spoilers ahead!
Chapter 1: Team Sprem (a misspelling of Supreme)
Swan Lee is a street kid with no parents living in the poor Port Town along with his gang, Team Sprem/Supreme (which I'll just call Supreme to prevent giggles from readers), which includes his friends Eddie and Mamoru. Despite only being 10 years old, Swan is a very good racer because he has access to a banned system called Soulmatic which allows users to directly connect their minds to their machines, which can be very dangerous. Whenever Swan connects to his machine, he communicates with an unknown entity called the Supreme who guides him.
While chasing down an opponent, Mamoru crashes his vehicle and has to be pulled out of the wreckage by Swan. Afterwards, a futuristic zeppelin passes by announcing the top 4 winners of the recent F-Zero race who are the original four characters from the SNES game (though for whatever reason Samurai Goroh is called Kamikaze Goroh in this version).
Captain Falcon, the 1st place winner, announces his retirement, and he is given the title of Baron of Cosmos by Mr. Richter, the President of the company Big Cosmos, which created and oversees F-Zero.
Chapter 2: Monday Tournament
Ten years later, the adult Swan and Team Supreme have mostly split, with Eddie as his mechanic and Mamoru never being able to fully recover from his injuries all those years ago. Swan plans to race in the Monday Tournament so he can qualify for F-Zero.
However, the odds are stacked against him. At this point, F-Zero -which is ostensibly supposed to be open to everyone who has access to a machine, only wants the pilots that Big Cosmos trains themselves to be able to compete in the races, and they set out traps for outsiders, making it almost impossible for ordinary citizens to participate in F-Zero.
Swan uses the Supreme to help him avoid the traps and win the qualifier, even though use of the Soulmatic system isn't allowed. His cheating goes unnoticed, however, and his darkhorse victory in the qualifier causes a stir among F-Zero viewers.
Chapter 3: Blue Falcon
After the tournament, Captain Falcon reaches out to Swan and Eddie, asking them to meet him at his home. Once they arrive, they see that Falcon has become prematurely aged from his years of racing and he admits to being an alcoholic. Swan is skeptical of Falcon's intentions, but Falcon says that he's renounced his title as Baron of Cosmos and wants to sponsor Swan and Eddie in F-Zero, giving them his blessing to inherit the Blue Falcon and modify it however they please.
After this, a meeting between President Richter and his right-hand man, Owl, is shown, where Richter reveals that Falcon has cancer and doesn't have much time left to live.
Back home in Port Town, Swan is told that Mamoru has collapsed. He rushes to be at his old friend's side, but it's too late. Mamoru is already dead by the time he arrives at his family's home. Swan has a heartfelt conversation with Mamoru's younger sister, Taime, and he lets her ride around town with him.
Chapter 4: Glid (probably a misspelling of Grid)
Richter invites Swan and Eddie to stay at the Crystal Tower Hotel in White Land. Once there, Swan has dinner alone with Richter, who drugs him so that he can analyze his brain with a machine that detects the Supreme's presence in his mind. Swan comes to with no knowledge of what just happened.
The race at White Land takes place, and this time Swan wins by attacking another racer with a concealed weapon. Falcon watched the broadcast of the race from home, and at the end, he fell unconscious.
Chapter 5: Death Wind
Swan's cheating has been discovered this time, but Richter allows this, announcing that the rule against directly attacking other racers will be rescinded. He believes that Swan will usher in a new era of F-Zero where it is more than entertainment, it will be war.
A romantic meeting between Swan and Taime is interrupted by Eddie, who tells them that Falcon is in critical condition. Swan hurries to Falcon's house, where he is on his deathbed. In his last moments, Falcon "looks at Swan as if he were looking at a lover" and implores him to seek out Dr. Stewart, Goroh, and Pico so he may learn the meaning of racing from them, and as he passes away, he can see and speak to the Supreme.
However, once Swan returns to his garage, he sees a ransom note from a gambling organization called Vega threatening him that they have Taime in their clutches and won't release her unless he drops out from the Death Wind circuit.
Swan plans on racing anyway, believing that's what Taime would want, and he gathers a collection of bombs from his street gang days to use against the other racers. In response to this, Eddie leaves Swan. When the Death Wind race starts, the Supreme prevents the Blue Falcon from moving, causing Swan to panic, but Taime is then let go safe and sound.
Chapter 6: Goal Gate
The next session of F-Zero will see the princes of Sand Ocean and Silence participating, and Richter plans on using the new brutality of the races to spark a war between the two planets so he can buy the oil that was recently found on Sand Ocean. At this point, he views Swan as expendable and orders him to be killed.
A cruiser ship piloted by a man named Sekikawa attacks and injures Swan and Taime; luckily, they're rescued by Pico and brought to his fortress. After he recovers, Swan visits Goroh's boat house in Big Blue. Following a short pep talk and a feeling of kinship over their shared "Oriental blood" (the translation's words, not mine), Swan and Taime visit Dr. Stewart in Mute City.
In each of his conversations with the three former pilots, Swan has discussed what racing means to them and what the Supreme is, getting different answers from them. Dr. Stewart encourages Swan to race again, and he leaves Taime behind to stay safe with the doctor.
Immediately after leaving the penthouse, Sekikawa attacks Swan, seemingly killing him and causing Taime to become hysterical. As Swan falls through the air, he sees angels and can feel his body lifting upward. Dr. Stewart contacts Pico and Goroh, asking for their help to create the ultimate F-Zero machine. The three work together to create a new, more powerful version of the Blue Falcon.
Finally, the last race in Mute City with the two princes is about to begin. The Blue Falcon appears at the entry line, much to Mr. Richter's shock, since he believes Swan to have been killed. He tries to shut down the race to no avail, the systems are unresponsive. Stewart, Goroh, Pico, Taime, and the rest of the crowd watch as stars fill the night sky of Mute City for the first time in centuries.
The race goes without incident and the Blue Falcon wins. Swan reveals himself and embraces Taime, telling her that the Supreme is in actuality the collective memory of all those who race, and he has elevated himself above caring about winning or losing.
Final Thoughts After that, the book ends with pontificating about the spiritual significance of racing at high speeds felt by pilots and car racers throughout history, hence the title "Gods of Speed," but I didn't know how to word it, sorry. This book seems like it's too short, there's a lot of "and then Swan went here and talked to this guy for a bit", but I also appreciate not wasting my time.
Like I said, there's a lot of worldbuilding and stuff that I left out, there's far, far more of it than you would expect from a Nintendo tie-in novel from the early 90's and I appreciate the effort, even if a lot of it was expressed through info dumps.
How about Captain Falcon going out like that, huh? Can you imagine any Nintendo property tackling alcoholism and cancer, especially with the protagonist of one of their flagship SNES games at the time??? I have to admire such a bold choice. It's so completely different from later portrayals of Falcon where he's basically Future Racing Jesus and got to go out in the anime with a blaze of glory. I wish the other three racers were in it more (BTW, Goroh is given the last name "Sugata" here, and I'll now adopt that as my headcanon for his real last name). If you have any questions about the book, I'll try to answer them the best I can. I know a lot of it still flew over my head.

The confusing factors about Serge.
Chrono cross is a legendary game that originally was only exclusive on the PS1 before being remastered on the Switch etc. yeeeeears later. One of the aspects that made this game so unique was the fact that this game was only localised in North America, from Japan.
Another well known aspect; is the sheer amount of recruitable characters, 45 party members in total! Originally 64 were planned, but you can probably imagine how the PS1 would suffercate with that much individual data, in a game that already has a LOT of content which is very impressive on the late PSX.
The overall game is an RPG and has a lot of elements related to time travel and parallel universes much like it's predecessor Chrono Trigger.
However, this game can be very confusing very quickly as so much is going on at once. You actually need to replay the game multiple times to get the full story and experience. It's not possible to get every single party member in a single playthrough.
Your main character is a seventeen year old boy named Serge, a silent protagonist that relies on players to select speech prompts. He may seem so simple, but his overall character and background gets very confusing. As the game explains most of the stuff, it's really up to the players interpretations to construct the bigger picture.
I will try and explain this as best I can:
When Serge was three years old he was attacked by a panther demon, which poisoned him beyond knowledgeable cure. His father was desperate to heal him so he brought him to a legendary treasure known as the frozen flame that for some reason can do miracle things like wish granting and healing illnesses.
Things get a bit technical from here but basically, Serge touched it and was healed. However, his father became corrupted.
Later on, the father tried to kill Serge by drowning him. But a girl named Kid travelled back in time to save him.
But, this caused the dimensions to split. Basically there are two parallel versions. One where Serge actually died and another he's alive thanks to Kid.
This is only a tiny part of how difficult this game's concept and story is to understand. It's also in the same universe as Chrono Trigger so it's important to fully understand that game first.
Tumblr media
Hopefully this explains it a bit better.
Technically. You are playing as a dead character who should be dead but isn't. Hope that clears your mind.
It's like imagining a parallel universe where Nintendo actually went through with giving the licenses to Sony PlayStation instead of throwing it away to the hilariously bad Phillips CDI
Tumblr media
We could have got Resident Evil: Link but no, we got the very pinicle of evil itself in the form of Microsoft paint instead
From here, everything gets confusing to the point where it seems as though Serge has given up in general. After learning about his existence, the fact that a furry (Lynx humanoid) has taken ownership of his body and that overall he should be fucking dead. It's no wonder that he refuses to talk to anyone anymore.
Here. This article can explain it better than me.
One thing we can confirm for sure. Serge is definitely sick from something
Tumblr media Tumblr media
That's probably the old age kicking in already
No, this isn't some romantic hug moment. This is a possessed Serge straight up stabbing Kid
As his friend lies there, skin pale from the blood loss. He just smiles and continues to be a prick in front of the other party members. Now, obviously this isn't the real Serge, because he can't talk without players selecting what they want him to say. Lynx has actually swapped bodies with him.
Tumblr media
While Serge is now a feline, scythe wielding humanoid
If you saw your own body doing this without your control. Then it's only logical why you wouldn't want to talk to these people again. Out of guilt, which may explain why Serge became more silent than he already was.
His possessed body becomes Dark Serge, who looks like a pirate version of him with red eyes
Tumblr media
Yaaar, ye fuckers ain't getting me treasure! 64 barrels of me rum on the line and I ain't sparing no matey, go back to Davy Jones ya scurvy sea dogs!
After a long ass time of being Lynxerge, he becomes reborn.
Tumblr media
Without any clothes, though human decency doesn't seem be on his mind
Later, a bunch of shit happens. Dragons fuse into each other and become the dragon God. Kid loses her shit and ends up in a coma. This causes Serge to dive into her past and save a child version of her from a burning building. That way, she can finally wake up and rejoin the party.
Overall. There's not much in the whump department apart from some inspiration. Like sickly psychopathic not-Serge. Or Comatose Kid.
If you want to see the game for yourself then Wold Of Longplays has 11 videos of over 2 hours of gameplay EACH. It's bloody long.
You can check out Pixv as well. There's a lot of fanart on this game, just put in Chrono Cross. You may need to play around for a bit as it's a Japanese artist website.
Until you get this
Tumblr media
So far I've not found any whump. But I'm going whump hunting soon. Which also means enduring any overly sexy artwork so you don't have to (there's a lot of Serge and his "Look how big my bulge looks" thanks Internet...) yeah, most of the time officially in the game he always wears clothes. There was one time he was stark naked, as he was reborn. You can just imagine what I'm going to run into while hunting. Hopefully I won't run into any raincode art either.... but since I'm one of the most cursed beings on the goddamn planet, that will be my luck.
But overall. Feel free to explore. Works from multiple artists may lead to other fanarts of other games or anime. Just click on one picture then look at what other works that same account has done. Just be careful of the sexines, not everyone puts NSFW warnings on their channels unfortunately.
Have fun out there!!

It's incredible how utterly abysmal this generation of consoles is. The Xbox Series S has basically fulfilled the Xbox One's initial idea, a TV streaming box where you own nothing. The Xbox Series X is a stripped down PC, with no games despite microsoft buying every gaming company they can. Halo Infinite is one of the worst video games I've ever played, with terrible optimization, terrible servers, and less content than any Halo ever made. Starfield was forgotten in 10 minutes. The PS5 has no games and Sony hates its own users. Spider-Man 2 is a followup to a game that I intended on 100%ing, except once you hit 65% into the game you are hit by an absolute slog to play that completely made me abandon it. Spider-Man 2 itself was apparently overbloated, over budget, and rushed and crunched to hell and back, with people still finding new cut content to this day. Ratchet and Clank A Rift Apart was noteworthy only because for a fleeting moment, we thought a character was transgender due to the lore of the series, except the devs came out and said "whoopsie actually we forgot our own story and concepts, ignore that :3". Other than that Sony has been inconsistently putting out "games" which are nothing more than interactive movies, copying their once rival Phillips with the CDi, or just stealing ideas from the Wii U with their current rival Nintendo. And Nintendo has decided to just push through any and all quality assurance complaints and continuing to not redesign their controllers to make sure they are up to standard AND removing the identity of their product by making an iteration of the Switch, the Switch Lite, which literally cannot switch between handheld and home console. But at least Nintendo Switch has games

!!! nintendo direct !!! just got around to watching it. here's thoughts.
HOLY SHIT NEW 2D ZELDA??? WITH PLAYABLE ZELDA????? FUCK DUDE, I'M SO HYPE. EASILY THE HIGHLIGHT OF THE DIRECT
new mario party and mario & luigi games look good. still wondering if and how they're gonna fuck up the new mario party, but i will say that the boards are actually pretty interesting looking. never actually played a mario and luigi game but i hear they're good, maybe i should get around to that. i'll think about it after i finish secret of mana
metroid prime 4??? sick, dude. i'm not really a metroid guy but it's mostly because i just haven't really played them before. i tried super metroid but i forget what happened with that. definitely on my backlog, they look very quality.
lots of bullshit to skip thru. wouldn't be a nintendo direct without it. there's a reason i wait until the live stream is over, i don't wanna waste precious finite time on this earth watching a trailer for just dance or that fucking funko pop game.
rerelease of DKCR. i know a certain ohioan is gonna be happy about that, so i'm kind of happy for him by proxy. i do like DKC but i've only really played the SNES ones
and yeah that's pretty much it. nothing else of note really showed up, at least on the Oh My God scale y'know. really hyped for playable zelda, and honestly i've missed 2d zelda. i feel like something the 2d style of gameplay has pretty much always had over the 3d was more complex puzzle box type dungeons (excepting the 2d zeldas before link's awakening, as much as i love alttp its dungeons weren't The Best, but to be fair they were the first dungeons in the series that weren't complete bullshit). anyways i'm just glad for playable zelda in a game that isn't a spinoff or for the phillips CDI. life is good

Listen. I have trust issues about this, alright? Blame IGN's April Fool's Day 2008 fake trailer.
youtube
And looking at the details we have so far gives me mixed feelings.
Miyamoto teaming up with Avi Arad to produce — I'm down for it.
Tapping the Director of the Maze Runner movies for the Directors' chair here — OK, yeah, I can see it.
Partnering with Nintendo's mortal enemy Sony for minority share co-financing and then also worldwide distribution? That's a bold move, we'll see how it works for them.
The last time Nintendo and Sony tried to partner on anything, was when "PlayStation" was going to be a CD-ROM add-on to the SNES in the same way the Sega CD hooked on to the Genesis.
They couldn't agree on how to split the licensing fees, and Nintendo told Sony, "hey, if you don't like our deal, we'll just work with Phillips instead." Which made for a great villain origin story, because Sony just took all that game hardware development experience and rolled it into a standalone console.
Meanwhile, Nintendo's new partnership with Phillips had to play catch up for lost time as it was starting late in the 16-bit generation. As a stopgap, Nintendo licensed its popular franchises to Phillips to let them make games for their in-house interactive multimedia platform, CDi.
This resulted in the absolute worst entries in the entire Zelda franchise, pushing the laughably bad LoZ DIC cartoon that aired on Fridays on the Super Mario Brothers Super Show a few slots up from its previous spot at the bottom of the list. The CDi Zelda games even make Tingle look like a well-written reasonable character in comparison.
