TaskRaccoon Premium: Chapter 8
It's All Greek to Me
First chapter
Previous chapter
Jace burst out of the faculty building, his head in a spin. His hopes of catching up to Simon fell away - he couldn't see Simon anywhere and as far as he knew had no clear way of contacting him. So he would have to wait until Simon got in touch with him, or think of another creative plan to get out of this life. Creative thinking, however, was no longer Jace's strongest attribute and as he stood blinking in the sun he felt lost and aimless.
He was suddenly self-conscious of the looks he was getting from passing students. Many of them were admiring, some were clearly amused by his sweaty appearance, but he got the sense that a few were surprised to see someone who was so clearly a jock standing outside the faculty building at this time of day. He started walking, without a clear destination in mind. Jace figured he needed somewhere to rest and then he could plan his next move. Jace wondered that - like when he was José - if he followed his feet, he would instinctively end up where this life lived. He tried to conjure up a plan, but his thoughts were thick and unfocused.
In the absence of other ideas, he felt how easy it would be to slip into Jace's life - become a young, hunky wrestler star. He could sleep around, become the BMOC, ace the sport but... what then? What were this life's prospects for after college? Even his struggles in the tutor session, Jace was sure he would be bombing his classes - whatever they were. He could not end up as some washed up former jock.
Jace was so in his head mulling over his options, it took him a moment to realise that he was standing outside the front door of a standalone house. Had he made his way to Jace's home? The porch was littered with empty beer cans and he spotted a few balls on the lawn, strewn amongst a messy garden with a rusted barbecue and beach chairs. He stepped back and saw on the front facade of the house three towering Greek letters, almost mocking his inability to read them. With a sinking feeling, Jace realised he had ended up at a frat house.
Jace tentatively pushed open the unlocked front door. "Erm, hello?" he shouted into the empty hallway. He didn't get a reply - maybe the other guys who lived here were still asleep or out of the house. The ground floor of the house was a mess, covered in empty pizza boxes, vats of protein powder, and more beer. The house had a persistent musky, unclean smell. Jace shuddered, he couldn't believe this was his life now unless he fixed something.
His body still on autopilot, he made his way upstairs until he found a locked door. Not surprised to find a set of keys in his pocket, he unlocked the door and entered his room. Jace felt a wave of familiarity as he entered the room. He could feel his body physically and mentally relax, as if he had come back to his home, his safe space. Jace could almost recognise the unmade bed, the clothes littered across the floor, and the desk covered in rubbish and protien bars rather than any books. He could even recognise the smell because, he realised, it smelt like him - like a sweaty changing room. He tried to bat away these thoughts, reminding himself that he was only here temporarily as he figured out his next move and that the items in the room - the singlets and jock straps on the floor, the set of weights in the corner, the empty condom wrappers - they weren't his. Even if they felt, intrinsically, his.
Jace's head hurt - this was all too much to take in - and he made his way to the unmade bed. He just needed five minutes to lie down and think, but as soon as he hit the pillow he immediately passed out.
Jace jolted awake to the sound of laughs and shouting from downstairs. "Fuck man, what time is it?" he mumbled. He was momentarily taken aback from his voice, which seemed deep and gruff. He rubbed his throat, feeling a thick Adam's apple and stubble, and inspected his hands, their thick sausage fingers covered in hair. He remembered. He isn't Josh, a bright postgrad with a hopeful future. He's Jace. He's a wrestler, a jock, a frat boy. He's slow, and thick, and trapped. He remembers his previous bodies and lives - the bartender, the pool boy, the graduate, the bouncer - but the memories and faint and fleeting. For now, this is who he is.
Jace pulled himself around of bed, marvelling once again at his veiny arms as he did so. He yawned, scratching his eyes as a wandered across the floor towards a full-length mirror on the opposite wall. It was the first time he had had a chance to see himself and, well, he was fucking big. Not tall and massive like Jamal, but stout and thick. He wasn't any shorter than he had been as Josh, but all of his muscles and bulk painted the illusion of someone small, someone who almost seemed like they needed to be stretched out. Everything about him was thick - his short neck, his square head, his squat torso, and his bulging legs. And he loved it. He looking fucking amazing.
He stripped off his tank top and let it fall to the floor, gasping as he saw his upper body in its full glory. What grabbed his eye first was the hair - the front of his torso was covered in thick dark hairs, streaming over his shoulders. He turned around and even some hairs creeping down his back. This should have put him off, but he couldn't help but admire how his dark hair contrasted his tanned skin, and how despite the carpet he had his muscles were still clear to see. He casually flexed, feeling his bis and tris and - in a moment that caused him to laugh out loud - managed to make his hairy pecs dance.
He grinned, and as he caught his shit-eating face in the mirror noted that he was one handsome motherfucker. He could imagine girls going crazy for his thick hair, tan skin, and strong facial features that were blocky enough to go with his blocky body. He had dreamy green eyes that offset his tan skin perfectly, although they stuck him as being a bit unfocused.
That didn't matter though, cause what the girls would really love he thought, was his bod. He felt up his firm body and ran his hands through his hairy chest and grinned again when he felt a rise in his sweatpants.
Now that, his fuckstick, was what the girls were really interested in, he thought absent-mindedly. He started to rub his dick through his sweatpants, proud that despite his smaller height he still had a giant knob. Without thinking, Jace pushed with sweats to the ground so he could get a better grip, laughing when he had to use two hands to jerk it fully. His dick was thick and veiny, sticking out from an untamed bush. His legs now on show, he admired his thick thighs and chunky ass, and loved how jacking himself off made all the veins in his arms pop. He was a short king, he was a fucking stud, and he was... he was... about to nut all over his fucking mirror. Jace exploded, eyes rolling back as he drenched his mirror. He breathed deeply, feeling more content and grounded than he had in days. For the first time in he could remember, he felt whole.
Jace knew that this life wasn't his and that he needed to find a way out of it at some point, but was there any harm in just chilling out for now? What was the rush? He had always been such a highly strung guy, and there was kinda of a nice thrill in just letting his body take over. If anything, Simon bailing on their tutoring session was a bit of a win - he got to live the kind of life he never would have been able to when he was at college, the life of someone who didn't have to worry about studies or exams. Someone who could just fuck about and have fun. For now and until he figured out a way back, that sounded pretty good Jace thought.
Jace picked up a jock strap from the floor and used it to haphazardly wipe his cum from the mirror, before hearing a firm knock at his door. "Yo Jace, you in?" Jace pulled up his sweatpants and squeezed on his tank top as he opened the door. Jace had to crane his neck to look up at the towering guy who had opened it. He had full blonde hair, a handsome cleanly shaven face and a lean V-shaped torso. Jace felt a flicker of recognition and continued to stare at the guy. He was a stranger, right? So why did he feel like he knew him?
"Yo, earth to Jace," the guy said. "You good? You're acting even more spacey than usual." Jace laughed, feeling pretty comfortable around this guy. "Yeh, sorry man. Just up from a nap so a bit out of it." The swimmer laughed, "oh yeh, what's your excuse the rest of the time then?" Jace laughed along, even though he didn't really get what the guy was on about. That was fine though, he seemed pretty chill. "Anyway man, some of us are gonna chuck the ball around out front if you're game." Jace nodded enthusiastically - that actually sounded perfect, a great way to take his mind off things and an excuse to show off his new bod.
Jace soon found himself back on the front lawn with five of his frat brothers, chucking a ball about and chatting. They were all casually dressed, mostly in some form of active wear. All five of the guys had athletic builds, some more lean and wirey, some with a bit more heft. Jace realised with some disquiet than he was the shortest of all of them - the others guys must have all easily been over six foot, so part of him felt a bit intimidated when they all crowded around him. He reminded himself, with some pride, that although the other guys were taller, he was the most muscular. He could probably bench press and squat way more than these lanky fuckers! He was also the hairiest, had the best arms, and probably had the biggest dick of all of them! He was damn proud of his body, of the unit he had put together.
One of the biggest guys who almost rivalled him in bulk - a black linebacker Kyle - held his nose performatively when Jace got close. "Dude, you fuckin' reek. You still wearing that same shit you wore to the gym this morning? You ever gonna fucking change?" Jace just smiled; he hadn't even noticed he was still in the same clothes, the top still damp with sweat and the sweatpants (he now noticed awkwardly) with a dried cum stain down the right leg. He knew Kyle was just joking though, he was his friend! Jace played along. "Haha, it saves on washing man! I even more this stuff to a tutoring session this morning!"
The other guys paused, looking baffled and bemused. Kyle laughed "Jace, what the fuck were you doing at a tutoring session this morning?" Jace looked around, seeing his friends looking confused. "For... Ancient Greek. I came top of the class last year" Jace tailed out sheepishly. With that, the other guys exploded with laughter. Jace felt put out by this - was it so surprising that he studied Ancient Greek? Kyle clapped Jace on the shoulder. "Dude, who are you kidding, you can barely read English let alone Ancient Greek! What the fuck are you doing trying to learn that shit?"
Jace was getting pissed off now - he wasn't this fucking dumb idiot everyone assumed! He was smart! "Well, it's my major!" he shouted back. The blonde swimmer, Billy, looked concerned now, and approached Jace. "Jace, you know that your major is sports science right? That's the only course the school would let you in on and you're flunking that, even with our help. You can't just switch to something else." Jace tried to think, but his head felt tight and muffled. He collapsed on a bench, his mind reeling.
Was Billy right? Maybe Ancient Greek was over his head. That tutor session with Simon had been embarrassing. And at least with sports science, it was taught in the school gym building. He guessed that he was there pretty much all the time anyway!
From the recesses of Jace's mind, a shout of protest echoed out. That wasn't right. He had studied classics, he knew all about it, and he hadn't ever set foot in the college gym before! So why did that life all feel so far away, while the life of a college jock felt so real? If he stayed in this life, is this who he would become? Jace didn't even know if this guy he was now had parents, or family, or a girlfriend. And all these guys acting like they were his friends, he hadn't even existed before today.
Jace could feel himself getting worked up, getting angsty, and as if on cue, Billy came over and gently put his arm around Jace. "Look Jace, I know you sometimes don't feel great about, you know... not always being the smartest in the room. But you're a fucking beast on the mat right? That's what matters." Jace couldn't help but nod along. Billy, who loomed over him, was so smart, so confident. And he was right, he was a fucking beast on the mat. He could take down any of these guys, easy. He smiled, and Billy ruffled his hair. Jace felt comforted, felt protected. He almost felt like he was their little brother, even though they were all the same age.
The guys started throwing the ball around again, chatting away as they did so - about classes, about girls, about sports. Jace for the most kept quiet, just happy to be hanging out with these guys. It helped take his mind of his problems, even if he didn't always understand what the guys were on about - two of the guys got in a heated argument about the economy which was completely over his head - but he was increasingly finding that he didn't care. The guys would chat with him, speaking slowly and asking him simple questions about wrestling, about whether he had had any luck with girls, whether he had been to any parties. Jace just made up answers, but they seemed to believe him. He enjoyed being part of the group, being looked after. It felt easy.
Soon, he and some of the guys had taken their tops off. Jace relished the opportunity to show off his hairy, built torso, and couldn't help but admire his arms as he threw and caught the ball. Being out here in the sun with his bros, his worries about Ancient Greek, Simon, the app and being Josh faded away. He felt strong, he felt good. Sure, he wasn't the brightest guy any more, but had being smart as Josh made him happy? He had been unemployed with no solid goals. Why was he in such a rush to get back?
Billy broke Jace's concentration. "Wait, dude, aren't you supposed to be at practice? You haven't forgotten again have you?" Jace paused. Shit, had he? Honestly, he couldn't remember shit. Billy laughed, "bro, you better get down there. I don't want your fucking coach shouting at us again to keep you in line!" Jace panicked, started to run inside, hearing Billy shout after him "and remember your gear this time!"
Jace bundled up the stairs and ran into his room. He was, despite everything, excited. Excited to try out this body for real, excited to see what this life had in store for him. He stripped out of his sweats - giving himself a quick wink in the mirror - and grabbed a random jock strap from the floor, forgetting that he had used it as a cum rag just an hour earlier. He found a singlet on the ground which - at least to Jace's mind - seemed clean enough. He was only gonna sweat in it anyway! The singlet fit perfectly, exenuating his muscular body and highlighting his hairy pecs. Even though he was in a rush, Jace couldn't help but flex in the mirror - he looked fucking good. Jace knew that, deep down, this short king, stocky frat boy wasn't him, that he shouldn't be wearing a cum-soaked jock strap or a used singlet, that he shouldn't be excited about training. But he didn't care, this felt good.
Jace grabbed his phone to pull up directions to the gym but his phone was still stuck on the TaskRaccoon app, on that stupid tutoring task. He was over that now, he didn't need any more tutoring. He just wanted to make it to his wrestling practice and grapple some guys, work up a sweat. But Jace, clumsily pawing at the app with his thick fingers, couldn't close it, couldn't pull up Google Maps. He kept getting the same prompt, some shit about a penalty if he backed out of the task. Jace knew he shouldn't, knew that something bad could happen, but right now he didn't care. He felt best when he let this new body take over and not overthink things.
Gazing at himself and smirking in the mirror, he cancelled the task and was overcome with a blinding white light.

college roommate - leon kennedy x reader
nerdy!reader x leon kennedy
synopsis: you and leon have just started university, finding yourself in the same university visit, he comes and visits your dorm as he's been struggling in his classes. you kick it off, and you invite each other into your different, interesting lives.
words: like 4500
disclaimer: this isn't proof-read and i actually do need to proofread it and i will when i finish it, this also isn't finished. so if u don't wanna read it now and wanna come back to it when it's pristine and complete be my guest, the edit of this will be very edited like literally whole chunks of texts will be different, i just wanted to post something
content warning: kissing, bit of angst, slight smut/almost smut, sexual themes
A loud knock rings through your door, if it had come even a second later you wouldn’t have heard it at all as you were on a one-way path to passing out on top of your notes.
“Come in.” You mumble, picking your head up off of the desk and watching as a dirt-blonde hunk of a boy you don’t recognise comes through. Maybe it’s one of the frat boys trying to get to know all the girls in his dorm house.
“Hey. Can I ask a favour?”
“Who are you?”
"I'm Leon, I saw you in my engineering lecture the other day and you looked like you understood what was going on. Then I found out you were in my university building. So here, I am. Help. Please. I’m going to fail and we’re only 3 weeks in." His desperation makes you laugh, something you were shocked you could do in this dazed state after a mind-boggling 8 hours of completing work.
"Oh Leon, I'd love to but I think if I even think about that engineering class for another second right now I might actually drop down and die."
"It can wait, you busy right now? Other than you know, spilling drool all over your papers?”
“Yeah, I was just about to go spill some on my pillow too, I'm exhausted." You say, not entirely joking, and begin to gather your things.
“I get it.”
“We have another engineering lecture tomorrow anyway so you can just catch me then."
"You sure, though? I mean I'm already here." He shrugs and picks up a book from her bookshelf. "How do you read any of these? There are no pictures." You laugh again.
"You're asking me how I read physics books when you take engineering… Are you sure you picked the right course? You know, you can read it if you want, and would probably benefit from it. If you can even read."
"No thanks, I'll just get you to teach it to me tomrrow. I’ll see you in a bit, Einstein.”
"You should watch what you call me if you want me to tutor you, that’s usually not free."
"Oh, but the thing is I don't think you're actually going to make me pay for anything. You're too nice for that."
"That's a very bold statement to make to a stranger."
"You'll come round eventually."
"Yeah, yeah, whatever."
"Can I just ask you another question? I'm not going to stop annoying you until you answer it the way I want you to."
"Go on." You sigh.
"Have you eaten today? Cause I haven't and I'm hungry."
"Leon-"
"Please."
"Okay, okay, God, you're persistent. Gonna give me a headache." You groan and sit up.
"It’s worth it, you'll need me to keep you sane later in the year."
"Oh really? You think we’re gonna stay friends that long?"
"I know you've got your nerdy brain, but I've been told I have a great personality." You can't tell if he's implying something with that disgustingly stupid joke or if he really is just an idiot. To be fair, he's funny and managed to pull you out your the room you had been hibernating in for the past few days to get ahead of work. You suppose there are worse people you could be forced to talk to.
"Whatever. Just get out of here." You push him towards the door.
"You're not going to eat with me?" You roll your eyes and lock the door, getting dressed into something that wasn't your pyjamas.
…
Now here you were, eating outside with this boy from your lectures when you had just wanted to be at home sleeping. Although it was nicer than you thought it would be, he had insisted on buying you an energy drink to keep your eyes open as you were eating in some random burger shop.
"How come you're struggling?"
"Been going to too many parties, I've got different priorities."
"..."
"What?" He says defensively.
"Don't make me slap you. You can't be stupid because you got into this university, you're wasting your potential."
"I am not!"
"You're struggling! We're only 3 weeks in! I mean, come on, Leon."
"I don't understand what your problem is, maybe you need to live a little."
"That is rich coming from you. You're going to peak in college and fuck up the rest of your life if you ruin your chance now. And I live fine right now, I go out often enough and put the rest of my time toward my course, like a responsible human being."
"So you're boring?"
"So you're an idiot and can't plan for the future?"
"No, I'm not." He smirks. "And also, I never said I couldn't plan for the future, just that it isn't the only thing I want to focus on."
"Okay, fine, that's it. This is your problem, I'm not tutoring you."
"Got under your skin?" He smiles.
"I'm serious. You're smart if you got into this school, but you're wasting your talent partying and sleeping around."
“You’ve only known me for 20 minutes and you’ve managed to start an argument.”
“I just don’t want to waste my time. If you want me to help with assignments you need to make an effort, and if you want to be my friend, you’re also going to need to make an effort because I’m not going to care about someone who can’t even care about themselves.”
"I care about myself. Why else would I come to you for help on this?"
"Because you can't do it yourself and your friends are too stupid to ask them for help."
"No... Well... Okay fine, yeah that sounds pretty accurate. But in all honesty, I do care about my grade, that's why I'm coming to you. Now you know my intentions, I beg talk about something else, this entire conversation is reminding me of my mom."
"Like what?"
"Like, there's a party next Saturday, and I think you should come with me. You’re pretty entertaining."
"Oh, Leon. You're so clueless, it's pitiful."
"You have to go to the party, it will be fun."
"I have been to parties, I've gone to 2 since the start of the semester. But we have assignments to work on this week."
"One more little party isn't going to kill you. It'll be good, and then we can do the work."
"That's a very backward mindset."
"You'll thank me, trust me."
"You say the reason you’re struggling is because you’re going to many parties, and immediately proceed to invite me to a party." You shake your head and laugh. “You are something else.”
“So are you coming?”
“I’ll think about it.”
…
You and Leon had been going to the lectures together ever since, having lunch at points when he wasn’t hoarded by his friends and even managing a few study sessions into his schedule. You came 5 minutes early for the engineering lecture the next day. Flipping through the textbook notes to top up on your pre-reading beforehand, you had right at the back as Leon begged you to over text the previous night to sit there rather than the front so he’d feel comfortable sitting next to you. It doesn't take long for people to start filtering in, and eventually, that blonde-headed boy pops up next to you, leaning his head on your shoulder immediately.
"Didn't get enough sleep last night." He mutters.
"Up studying?"
"You know me so well."
“I'm not even going to ask what you were doing." You sigh, fully believing he had either gone clubbing or to another party last night.
"I promise you, I was studying. And you can ask me all the questions you want, I'll try my best to answer. I did go a little off track and I'm not doing well at it but your inspirational speech convinced me to try a bit."
"Really?" You ask excitedly, looking down at him. "Leon, that's great!" You feel his cheeks crease into a smile against your shoulder at your enthusiasm.
"You're more excited about it than I am, that's cute." He chuckles. "Keep talking, my head hurts, your voice helps."
"The lecture starts soon."
"Don't care."
"I’m not going to talk over the lecturer." You say, flicking his forehead.
"It's just a lot, okay? I'm trying my best, but I might have reached my full capacity last night." He sits up and sighs, rubbing his temples.
“Welcome to university."
"Yeah, whatever. Can we go back to your room after?"
"Sure."
"Thank you."
"Of course."
The professor finally steps into the lecture hall, and everyone quiets down, preparing for the lesson.
Halfway through, Leon couldn't help but pass out on you again. Your body went rigid, trying to make sure his head wouldn't fall off your shoulder. You pick the paper off of his desk, dragging it toward you as you start to write notes on your own and his paper so he won't miss out on anything.
He's surprisingly cute when he's not cracking annoying jokes and snapping back with snarky remarks. He was even making you lose track of the lecture a bit.
After class, you wake him up and walk him back to your dorm with him, chatting and catching him up on what he missed briefly. When you think about it, you're surprised you only met him yesterday. He feels like someone you've known since secondary school, or maybe he just treats everyone this way. Either way, you wouldn't complain about spending time with him.
"So, we're alone. What do we do?"
"Study?" You say, throwing him a pencil and paper. "Don't ask me stupid questions like that again."
"Come on, we just got out of an hour lecture, we basically already studied."
"A lecture that you slept for half of-"
"And that you caught me up on after."
"We need to make up the time. Now come on, let's work."
"But-"
"Now, Leon."
"Ugh."
…
The next hour wasn't as bad as you had expected it to be, you could still get your work done while simultaneously teaching Leon that content he missed out on. His demeanour quickly became enthusiastic when he saw how proud you were when you understood a concept, and you were genuinely impressed, he caught onto things quickly. After an hour, you both took a break sitting on your bed, him replying to some messages on his phone.
"Hey." You say, poking his arm to draw his attention.
"What?"
"Thank you."
"For what?"
"Making the effort to try, even if it is just a little bit."
"You're definitely making more effort than me." He smiles, leaning his head on your shoulder again.
"If you want to sleep you should just go home, you must be exhausted."
"I'm not leaving you in this depressing room, I'm keeping you company."
"I’m not keeping you from anything? Your phone was blowing up a second ago I assume you have somewhere to be."
"They can wait, I want to stay around for a bit longer. I like the change for once."
"Change?"
"It's quiet, I can think for once. You’re different from the people I’m around smart and stubborn,”
“So you’re aware of the poor choice of people you hang around, you had me fooled for a while.”
“Wait I’m not done, and even after all of that, I can tell that you're a little shy which is adorable. Oh, and my favourite part is how easy you are to annoy."
"I am not."
"You're blushing right now, I can feel your cheek getting hot. Adorable."
"Don’t you even close your mouth?"
"You know I can't, come on, it's not like you mind."
"Oh my god."
"Admit it, I'm fun to be around."
"Yeah, yeah."
"Tell me what you think of me."
"What?"
"Tell me, come on. Please, I'm dying for validation."
"Well. You're nice, and I've never seen you without a smile on your face, it's refreshing.”
“A little more… I know you got it in you.”
“You're not as stupid as you make yourself out to be,. And I honestly can't tell if I'm special or if you treat everyone else this way because you make me feel way more important than I really would be for someone like you."
"You're special, trust me. And that's a stupid question to ask. Do you want a list of the people I've met? The people I’ve made friends with?"
"What?"
"I can count on one hand the real people I've managed to keep around and one of those is my dog. Don't worry about that, because I know you’re gonna be on that list too. I know you think that I have so many friends and I'm surrounded by people all the time, but they're all fake. They're just fun for parties and clubbing when you have nothing else to do."
"But-"
"It's true." He looks at you, his expression becoming serious for the first time since you've met him. "And I've got to tell you, you're different."
"Different?"
"Yeah, you're interesting. You're not fake, and you're actually doing something with your life."
"I wouldn't be too sure about that, I think you’ve just surrounded yourself with one particular type of person, and now you’re shocked when you meet someone who’s not an idiot."
"Come on, I've seen the work you've done in these past 24 hours. You were working for at least 25 of them.”
"You know how to flatter me."
"That's another reason why you should hang out with me more."
"Oh, and why's that?"
"I'm not afraid to admit how much I like you, Einstein. Makes you feel good, doesn’t it?"
"I can't even think about what I should say to that." You say, laughing and burying your head in your hands. "God, you're a mess."
“I suppose, yeah. You’re changing that though.” He lifts your chin up to face him, smiling at your red cheeks. “See? So cute.”
"Why do you have to keep saying things like that?"
"Because you react this way." He grins.
"I hate you."
"Let me ask you something again. Are you going to go to the party on Saturday?"
"I don’t think so."
“Since I’ve got the chance, I think I can change your mind.” He smiles and pulls your face a little closer, close enough for him to feel your shallow breaths against his lips.
"I-" You can't find any words, you're stunned. He's gorgeous, and you can't deny that, but the idea of kissing him feels wrong, you can't do it. Not right now. The thought of getting with someone you're starting to have feelings for is setting off alarm bells, the alarm bells imprinted by your bad experiences from secondary school of guys playing with your emotions. No matter how much your heart is screaming you want to, your mind is screaming no.
"You're gonna go with me right?" He whispers.
"Okay." You say hoarsely, your legs desperately pressed together.
"Good girl." He smiles, getting up and putting his shoes on. "I'll see you on Saturday." He says, before leaving.
"I'm screwed." You mutter.
…
Saturday finally rolled around. You weren't even sure how much time you spent with Leon the day before, but you knew you wanted more. This was starting to become a concern for you. You remember last year, when you were hurt so bad you pledged to never fall for someone again. You can't do this, not with him. You know Leon is exactly that kind of guy, he’s charming, an athlete, with too many friends for his own good, someone who has no reason to be associated with you unless he wanted something, and was patient when it came to getting it.
And yet, here you were, wearing a simple little black dress and the heels Leon said would match. You pray that the feelings are cut off here, hopefully he sees you as just a friend and just likes to tease. But a little part of you has a sliver of hope that maybe this is real.
Leon came to pick you up from your room, as he was only a floor away. When you opened the door you were met with Leon dressed in a black bottom down with the top two buttons undone and the sleeves rolled up which definitely made you feel some kind of way.
"Leon, hi." You say, overly aware of the fabric hugging your skin, you rarely wore tight clothes.
"Wow." His eyes were stuck to everything that wasn't your face.
"Hey! My eyes are on my face, not my chest."
"I know."
"Leon!"
"Just admiring the view." You ended up crossing your arms to try and hide a bit of your figure.
"Can you stop looking?"
"You look great, don't worry." He says.
"Whatever."
"No, I'm serious. I mean it, you look amazing. Just relax and have fun, okay?" He puts his arm around your waist, pulling you close. "You look hot. And it's only going to get better. Just try to have a good time, I'll be by your side the whole time.”
"I've been to a party before, you don't need to baby me."
"I know it’s just this one is a big one. They always end in a mess. I've had a couple of close calls with the police."
"That's not what I'm worried about." I'm worried about what I might end up doing with you, she thinks.
"Just tell me if anything makes you uncomfortable and we can go." He smiles and leads you out of the dorm building and into the street.
"How far is it?"
"Only a few minutes away." He says, leading you along the sidewalk.
The walk wasn't too far, it was about 20 minutes of you both drinking from a wine bottle for some pre-game. Time seemed to fly by as you came to the house. Whoever was hosting this party, probably one of Leon's friends no doubt, was rich. The house was huge and the whole thing was vibrating with the music that blasted through it.
"We're here."
"I think it’s going to collapse.."
"Wait until you see inside." He grabs your hand and drags you in, the house packed. You didn't recognise anyone and felt a little intimidated as Leon led you through the crowd of people, pushing them aside. You couldn't believe there were this many students in the town.
He stops at the kitchen, handing you a drink. You hadn't gone to a party this big before, and that was voluntary, this was just too much. You drink it in one to hopefully get you drunk enough to gain a bit of confidence and hand it back to Leon for it to get refilled.
"I didn't know there were this many people here."
"There's usually a lot." He smiles, handing her another drink. "Don't worry, I'll be with you the whole night. You take a shot before starting to sip on the more tame drink Leon had gotten.
"What do you want to do first?"
"Let’s go find some of my friends. He says, taking your hand and dragging you through the sea of people, most likely dancing, grinding, or drinking.
He pulls you into the living room, finding his friends from one of the lectures and joining in on their conversation. You're introduced and you talk with them, they're all quite funny and sweet. You were happy to have found a fun little group.
The rest of the night is spent with them, the five of you getting progressively drunker and drunker and talking about more and more stupid shit before someone suggests the group should go and dance, you immediately go and hide behind Leon.
"Dancing is definitely not my thing." You whisper.
"You have to come."
"No way."
"Please." He says, looking into your eyes.
"Why?"
"I want you to."
"Leon."
"If you hate it, I'll make it up to you. Please." He whispers, and you sigh, giving in. "I know you'll enjoy it." He smiles and leads her by the hand into the living room where everyone is.
"Everyone's too drunk to be paying any attention anyway." He says, and the group joins in on the dance.
After a few more drinks the alcohol started to hit.
"Isn't so bad, is it?" He says after the first few minutes, watching you find your rhythm.
"No, it's fun."
"See, told you."
"Don't let it go to your head, I'm just drunk."
He smiles, spinning you so your back is pressed against his, the two of you continue to dance. He leans down and kisses your shoulder, wrapping his arms around your waist and grinding into you.
"Leon-"
"It's hard to control myself with you, almost kissed you that time I convinced you to come to this party, could tell you weren’t sure though."
"Because I thought we were just friends."
"That never lasts long, does it? Did you really think it was going to stay that way forever?" He says, running his hand down your thigh.
"We're drunk." You mumble, leaning your head back onto his shoulder. God, you wanted it. You were trying with everything you had to rationalise with yourself. He knew what he was doing.
"That doesn't change the fact that you're irresistible. And that's not the alcohol talking. I've been wanting to do this for a while."
He smirks, spinning her back around to face him and lifting you up, your legs wrapping around his waist.
"Let's go upstairs,"
"Leon-"
"Shh." He puts a finger over her lips and leads her away, finding the stairs and walking up. “Stop doubting yourself. One thing about you is that you always say no, or doubt yourself, let’s change that for once.”
He takes you to the first room he finds, happening to be a bathroom, opening the door and stepping in, kicking it closed and locking it. He sets you down and starts to kiss you, the alcohol making it a lot more forceful than usual. You kiss back, letting him guide you and set the pace, his hands sliding over her body.
"You're so fucking beautiful." He mutters, his lips trailing down to your neck. You feel the pressure of his hands pushing you backwards. Your back hits the counter, he lifts you up and settles himself between your thighs.
"Leon-"
"Yeah?"
"Are you sure? About me?"
"Yes." He smiles, lifting his head. "Now stop doubting yourself, will you? You're too perfect for that." If you were sober, your mind would've had red lights blaring, trying to protect you, but the alcohol flattened out all thoughts. A hint of doubt crossed your mind instinctually. But his touch is so good, and he's making you feel things that you haven't in a long time.
"I-"
"Come on, tell me how much you want me."
"I really like you, Leon. It's just...I have this feeling that I'll get hurt."
"What are you so afraid of? What can I do to change your mind?" He whispers. "I'll do anything for you." He says, pulling your head down to kiss him. The sweet nothings bring back some bad memories, it's starting to feel a bit like deja vu.
"I've been hurt before, Leon."
"What's his name? I'll kick his ass."
"It was in high school, but it happened too many times."
"You have to stop thinking, just focus on me, okay?"
"Leon."
"Come on." He sighs, pressing a finger to your lips. "I won't let anything bad happen to you. I don't want to lose something because someone in your past ruined everything for you, okay?"
"I don't know."
He sighs. "Do you wanna head home ?"
"I'm sorry."
"I'm not upset. Come on, I'll take you back."
"I didn't mean to ruin the night."
"No, I'm not letting you leave thinking you ruined it. I'm sure a million more parties are happening this week if you feel so bad."
"I'm a mess, Leon. Why do you even like me? I'm not worth it."
"Of course you are." He says, cupping your cheek."You're the only person I can stand to be around for hours while sober. And you can't argue with that."
"Okay."
"I'll get us out of here and you can crash in my room."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes. Now come on, we're leaving."
...
The taxi ride home was short and sweet, but still awkward. You were scared he'd be mad at you for ending the night so abruptly, but when you got into the room he made sure to put his arm around you, whispering reassurement into your ear, stroking your hair.
"You don't have to worry. I'm not angry."
"Really?"
"I don't blame you for wanting to wait."
"It's just, the last time-"
"I'm not him, you can trust me. I've been trying to prove that to you."
"I think... Maybe I can learn to trust you."
"You will, eventually." He says, holding his arms open, gesturing for her to cuddle with him.
"Thank you."
"Anytime."
You cuddle him for a bit, the silence being cut by the sound of the two of you breathing. Leon leans down to kiss capture your lips softly, it feels a lot easier to kiss him back, pressing your body against him.
"I don't know why anyone would ever hurt you." He whispers between kisses. "You're perfect." He runs his fingers through your hair.
"I don't know about that."
"I don't know why you doubt yourself either. Go to sleep, you'll feel better in the morning."

Roman Students in Athens
Training in oratory was a crucial part of Roman education; it was associated with a young boy's transition into adult life. As Athens was considered the intellectual centre of the eastern Mediterranean, many students undertook long journeys so that they could attend the best-known specialised rhetorical schools or study at one of several established philosophy centres.
Roman Education
Education was seen by the Romans as crucial to self-advancement. For young upper-class boys, it was key to obtaining an important position in ancient Roman society. Girls from the well-to-do and elite circles tended to be married at a very young age and did not formally advance their studies, although they may have received a sophisticated education from private tutors.
Originally, training in oratory was not provided within a school context but carried out under the tutelage of a famous statesman who would prepare his young pupil for a political career in the Roman government. However, by the 2nd century BCE, Greek culture had a significant influence on the Roman Republic, and the traditional approach made way for the Greek education system. In Greece, specialised teaching centres had existed for centuries, and gradually, schools of oratory became established in Rome, too. Ancient philosophy was divided into three areas; ethics, physics, and logic; pupils wishing to study philosophy could attend centres offering studies in Greek on doctrines such as Epicureanism and Stoicism. Alternatively, the young Roman boy could leave home to study abroad.
Some modern scholars have referred to this period in a young person's life as going to 'university'. However, the word is used loosely as there was no official curriculum and no official degrees. Nevertheless, going to 'university' in ancient times did entail not only advancing one's studies but also leaving one's family for a new environment and lifestyle in which a student could become a part of the culture of a famous intellectual centre.
During the Republic, notable figures were amongst those who travelled abroad for educational purposes including Julius Caesar (c. 100-44 BCE), the politician Marcus Junius Brutus (85-42 BCE) the orator Cicero (106-43 BCE), poet and satirist Horace (65-8 BCE), and son of Cicero. Generations later, we have the writings and correspondences of former students like the Latin rhetorician Aulus Gellius (123-165 CE), the Greek sophist and rhetorician Libanius (314-393 CE), and the Greek sophist, Eunapius (c. 345 to c. 420 CE), who provide valuable insights through their own experiences of studying in Athens.

'Mess and Household training' (3)

O, and then there were shoes. If ironing shirts was a science in itself, then taking care of leather shoes was closer to particle physics. I was pretty good at polishing my black cadet shoes, but I had noticed, when I met the Admiral, that there existed an entirely different level of excellence, to which I was now introduced.

You will not believe what I had to learn, about animal skin, about stitching, about soles and laces, about different kinds of fatty substances and ointments and polishes, which had to be applied with different kinds of cloths of soft brushes, in different kinds of strokes, with different intensities, slow to let the leather absorb the material, faster to bring ‘coherence’ to the outer layer, even faster to bring out a crystal clear lacquer shine.

For the ironing and the cooking we had some friendly instructors, not so for shoe care: you’d get two, sometimes three ‘experts’ to observe your entire exercise, which could go on for three or four hours, easily – for one pair, mind you.

And where I had perhaps gotten a bit comfortable in the other training courses, I now had to work really hard to avoid any kind of mistake (not to mention avoiding getting black polish on my shirtsleeves, for starters).

Demerits came down hard and fast, and again I found myself ordered back in to the barracks on Sunday afternoons, to spend hours and hours on my knees doing the floors again (and again).
As I was getting along in this particular type of Mess & Household training, the Army Cadet staff actually changed my school curriculum – without consulting me, of course. Simple: I showed up at school, stood to attention as we sang the national anthem (we did that every morning), and then one of my teachers took me aside and told me that I was to take extra classes in Physics and Chemistry (not my strong subjects), and my grade average had to be 8/10, or better. I was going to get additional tutoring outside normal school hours. These would be added to my school cadet drill hours and to my Army service hours, so ‘You had better focus on covering the backlog quickly, boy. Off you go.’ ‘Yes Sir’.

Just like that.
'O, kid, we've interfered with your life again.'
‘Yes Sir. Thank you Sir.'
It was what my life was like. Just when I thought I was managing this double cadet discipline and juggling it with my normal obligations at school and at home, there was always something added to it. Six more hours of school, per week, with extra tests.
I never realised until I began writing down these memories, that in those days I must have had days of 14 to 16-hours of work, at least, and that was apart from my own chores, doing my own laundry, my own ironing, the weekly haircuts, the morning inspections. I never complained. I never said: 'But Sir, please, I have School Cadets and Army Cadets and my Dad is away, and then all this homework and ... '.
Never.

Look at the tags right now.
Here they are again:
TW: Drugs; TW: alcohol abuse; TW suggestive; TW: Slightly Suggestive; TW Manipulation; TW: Toxic Relationship
Turn away now if you are not comfortable with these topics as they relate to something in my personal life that I need to write about. I need to get this off my chest. You do NOT have to read this if it makes you uncomfortable.
2008 - 2009 was so long ago but once in a really great while, memories will resurface and everything I ever felt in that span of a year will resurface.
I had gotten into a very toxic situation/relationship with a guy that year and I found out a lot about myself and went through absolute HELL. I write this here in the case someone IS reading this and can spot out the toxic behaviors in their own situations to avoid the absolute BULLSHIT I went through.
(sigh)
His name was Nelson. And for the first three months, we had gotten along very well. I was the type who would fall hard and fast, especially still being young and fresh out of high school and very impressionable. College wasn't for me and when he and I started dating, I made the big mistake of moving into his apartment to "make it on my own"! Because I was 18 and "ready" to take on life!
I had no fucking clue what I was doing. It wasn't even his apartment. It was his Mother's. In the worst part of Los Angeles (where I grew up), in a roach infested complex... And his two younger sisters who just wanted their big brother to give a shit about them. I thought that love could soften his heart to be a little better towards his siblings and God was I fucking wrong.
Diana was 13 and a bright child. Monica was 8 and they immediately clung onto me like an older sister. And I immediately took them under my wing and protection. And the more I saw how cruel he was to them, the less I loved him. The more I hated him and the more I hated myself for seeing that he could be the one for me at all.
I wanted to leave and go back home but I stayed for those two girls because their mother worked 3 jobs to keep food on the table and pay the rent. Nelson and I went to work for a non profit organization and got a stipend check of 250 bucks a week and did "volunteer work" for 9-10 hours a day at nearby schools where we tutored children who were falling behind in class and ran an after school care program. (We were in different teams thank GOD)
I did what I could to help... The mother was very sweet. She worked so hard. She loved her kids. But she didn't know WHY Nelson was so cruel when all she did was love him. His father was never in their lives but Nelson knew him in his youth enough to turn out into a twisted bastard.
Another reason why I didn't leave is because Nelson threatened me and those young girls a lot. He alienated me from my family and controlled my money. Whenever I was off the clock, he was immediately at my side to "walk us" home. He was making sure I didn't jump on a bus and leave. And I never told my teammates for a long time.
I think I gave up trying to run away because he would break me down. He'd call me names. I'd work hard to keep the peace at home. I did everything I could for him in various ways I'm not proud of to keep his fists away from his sisters.
One day, I had a day off and he didn't. And I stayed behind to babysit the little ones and we had a WONDERFUL time. We went to the market and got snacks. I treated them to ice cream and McDonalds. Went back home and turned on the Playstation to play a game. So long as we turned it off before Nelson got home, we'd be fine. But. We were having so much fun that I lost track of time.
I remember it like it happened yesterday. I'll never forget it and I wish I could...
But Nelson got home and I immediately began to apologize. Monica ran into her room and locked the door because I told her so. But he physically pushed me aside and (Diana was the one playing, sitting on a chair and didn't have time to even get up) went straight for Diana.
He grabbed her by her fucking hair and literally threw her across the across. I'll never forget her scream. I'll never forget the sound of Monica crying from her room in fear, wondering if she was next. And as Nelson was YELLING at Diana, I lost my mind. I lost my temper for the first time with him. I threw my entire existence into an open handed SLAP.
And all I remember is getting thrown around. Throwing him around. Telling Diana to go hide with Monica and threatened Nelson with the kitchen knife that if he ever hurt his sisters like that again, I will fucking stab him.
He never laid a hand on his sisters again.
And you know what?
I still stayed.... Because I felt like I still had no family to go to. I had no phone because he had thrown my phone out the window and far into the street during that fight. I threw his Superman game out the window in return.
But our relationship was pretty much strained. We tried to work things out but the only way I could feel anything at all, was if I got drunk. Or if I got high. It didn't matter what I got drunk or high on. I'll tell you I can never touch vodka again.
I'll tell you I've been clean of any drugs since 2009.
But that year? Especially after we moved out to live in another apartment? I was getting cross faded every weekend. Because I was down right depressed. Trapt. Alone. I had no friends. I only had this bastard to keep me company that entire year. And lemme tell you when you're stuck with someone you wish could love you and you wish you could find the strength to love them at all-- that year feels like ten years in 365 days.
At the end of 2008...I had an accident. I fell down a flight of stairs and cracked my lower lumber. My back has never been the same since. At this point, Nelson and I were trying to make things work again. But this is where it all fell apart.
I fell a week before Christmas. The doctor at the time couldn't do anything for the crack in my back because it was a hairline fracture that didn't need surgery. Said it'll heal. Here some crutches, Vicodin and merry Christmas!
I was stuck in that apartment. Unable to see family. Nelson LEFT ME ALONE, barely able to MOVE. Barely any food.
For a week.
And I couldn't do a damn thing...but eat a box of crackers and drink water and devour meds to keep the pain away. For the entire Christmas week and into the New Year of 2009.
I'll tell you that I could really only lay there and wish to die.
In the New Year, I found new strength. I found rage. I found the will to live and to kick out the crap and the alcohol and the drugs and I WANTED my family.
I just wanted to finish out the volunteer job then I was DONE.
My back got better and I was able to stand again. I spoke to Nelson less and less. I began to notice that he wouldn't pay the rent like he said he would. But he suddenly had money to take the train to go see a friend every weekend. Or have a new video game. We had an eviction notice to leave by the end of February. By that time, I'd be done with the volunteer work. The apartment was in Nelson's name alone. It was all too perfect....
My plan was set.
The day before Valentine's Day, Nelson had returned from his weekend excursion. I was going to drop the bomb on him about the late notice because I HID IT from him. So he had no idea.
But he did something that surprised me. He sat next to me. Told me I looked pretty. And I was genuinely surprised. For a moment, I thought that we were gonna work things out. Maybe he was going to apologize for everything.
He touched my lips with his finger and I felt something....I felt happy for a split second
Until he said: This is the finger I used to pleasure that friend I've been visiting every weekend since December.
THE "FRIEND" WAS A GIRL. HE WAS CHEATING ON ME WHILE WE WERE SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING THINGS OUT. HE JUST TOUCHED HIS UNWASHED FINGER JERKING HAND ONTO MY FUCKING MOUTH.
I
BEAT
HIS
ASS!!!!
I kicked him out of his own apartment. The next day, Valentine's Day, I treated myself to Disneyland. And silently hated every single lovely dove couple I saw and rode Space Mountain until I grew bored of it. Treated myself to my favorite restaurant. I went shopping. I stayed until closing to see ALL the parades and fireworks.
I went back home. The next day....I cleaned...
As in, I got trash bags and started to throw away ...... EVERYTHING HE OWNED.
Clothes
Personal items
Collector things
Food
Bathroom stuff
Everything that could fit in a 40 gallon trash bag-- I threw it all down the apartment's garbage chute.
I sold his games
His game systems
The TV and entertainment system sold to the neighbors
The only thing I left behind was the coffee table with the eviction notice IN HIS NAME with a note: If he ever came near me again it was on site and nothing and no one would save him from me. I would BEAT his ass again.
.....So after writing this, I realize that it's not really HIM that's got me upset. It's the fact that I allowed myself to stay at all. That's what had me mad.
But. I also can't hold onto that. Or else ....
People like that win. They take power over you. And if you don't forgive them FOR YOURSELF....then they keep that power. So. Nelson.
Go fuck yourself and I forgive you for being a piece of shit. Yeah I think that's how it works. I hope you scrapped your balls on the pavement.

My Top 10 dark academia stageplays:
#10 Cleansed by Sarah Kane
This playwright is known for deconstructions of stageplays themselves. Kane's later works replaced characters with voices, or did away with settings, and became so avant-garde that they weren't shows anymore but experiences. While Cleansed still had something like a plot or characters, it's a surrealist story set at a university—according to the script—that nobody treats as a university because they're only trapped there by a serial-killer torturer man. It is gory, depending on the stage effects budget many audience members are prone to walk out, but if you can withstand the shows of violence then you might find that there is meaningfulness at every instance of it.
#9 Rope's End by Patrick Hamilton
The morality of murder as discussed by elitist post-grads. I think The Secret History fans would like this for the similar themes. There was a movie adaptation in 1948 directed by Alfred Hitchcock.
#8 The Children's Hour by Lillian Hellman
There is a movie version from 1961 that I consider "malicious compliance" to the Hays Code policy of bury-your-lesbians. The doomed-to-death character was not a bad person, and an intolerant society is worse off for having lost her.
#7 The Effect of Gamma Rays on Man-in-the-Moon Marigolds by Paul Zindel
Tilly Hunsdorfer has a science fair project to put together, but her home life continues a legacy of child abuse. I have not watched the 1972 film adaptation, but the internet has informed me of its existence.
#6 The Awakening of Spring by Frank Wedekind
Written in 1891, translated into English by Edward Bond in 1974, again by Ted Hughes in 1995, and translated/adapted by Anya Reiss in 2014. When young people aren't guided and educated about facts of life that are traditionally ignored or repressed, then their actions become destructive. There was a very popular Broadway musical adaptation and American Sign Language revival, but I'm trying to keep to listing stageplays that are not musicals.
#5 Proof by David Auburn
A father and daughter duo are mathematicians who figuratively walk a tightrope between genius and madness. There was a movie adaptation in 2005.
#4 Master Class by Terrence McNally
This might not technically be a musical, because the featured songs are selected from other operas that Callas starred in, so I'm including this on the list. A retired opera singer, the legendary Maria Callas, teaches a room full of opera singers. Each song they select to perform sets off a series of monologues from the impassioned Callas about her life, portraying wartime poverty through to the betrayal of torrid love affairs, and how her voice was a gift and a curse.
#3 Educating Rita by Willy Russell
This is much more on the academia side than the dark side, but I think people that liked Dead Poets Society 1989 for the themes will like this stageplay or it's 1983 movie adaptation.
#2 Arcadia by Tom Stoppard
In the year 1809, the honorable Septimus Hodge tutors a teenaged gentlewoman with a keen interest in mathematics and physics. In 1993, two historians and a mathematician stay at the estate and try to find out what happened there between 1809 and 1813: sword duels, extramarital affairs, secret letters, famous poets, and how the brilliant Thomasina died tragically young and unsung. They clash with regards to academic "office politics" and the importance of the humanities versus the sciences.
Honorable Mentions:
The History Boys by Alan Bennett
In terms of how this stageplay and the 2006 movie adaptation tackles social issues, it's technically better than Dead Poets Society on every count: directly confronting misogyny and racism in academia, and having canonically queer boys and men in a convoluted relationship triangle as they try to prepare for university entrance examinations. There is a death. The History Boys absolutely qualifies as the genre Dark Academia. At the same time, I cannot recommend it because the way one main thread of subplot was handled really bothered me.
Picasso at the Lapin Agile by Steve Martin
While this list got much less dark from Proof on downwards, this might also be less academic. Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso meet at a café, the eponymous "Lapin Agile", and banter with the entire cast of characters about their life and philosophies. I found the entire play both funny and fun, and I really think it gets the neurons firing in sparkly ways.
Doubt: A Parable by John Patrick Shanley
At a Catholic school, a nun tries to prevent a priest from further interfering sexually with one of their students. The stageplay keeps the audience in doubt(!) about whether or not he did what he was accused of, as the story spirals into explorations of faith, race, sexual orientation, pragmatism versus principle, and whether what we're shown in our limited ways to witness can really be what it is. There was a movie adaptation in 2008 starring Meryl Streep.
#1
I don't actually know what to put here. Recommend a stageplay that you think belongs in this spot.

I am waking up in a softy cloud like bed, in middle of it, with a smile cause I like the things i am gonna do or excited for a new hobby i just found. Woke up to a small apartment, no rooms, cozy living area with kitchen on side, not so crowded, but a swing on side or swing sofa/bed, comfy. A whole wall balcony on side with flowers and decorated balcony with plants and a small table and cozy chair in balcony to a beautiful sea view. I wake up, brush my teeth do the personal business and skincare, make coffee, and enjoy my coffee in balcony, its early morning so no rush, everything is calm outside, may be I read a book and get lost in the fictional world, then I come back to do solve a functional puzzle which i just ordered online, or do embroidery or make my own dress with music on side, then alarm rings and i start making breakfast for myself, something light and healthy, then i dress up, comfortable casual and classy, tread is compulsion, do light makeup just because i like and i want to. Then drive my car, though nit fancy but functional, to my job, nothing heroic, just alive. To a college, I work as a tutor or educator, I wish my staff, settle in my office and see the stuff I have to do today, its a lecture, i have already made a ppt and am prepared for that, so i go to lecture auditorium and express myself with whole confidence and smile and energy, I like to speak, I want to teach and I make the subject intresting for students, i make them revise stuff with fun. Then after lecture I do lunch with my colleague, i have made many friends and I enjoy spending time with them. Then in evening I move to my office and plan for next lecture or upcoming exams and stuff. I return home at 5, change my clothes and go to dance class or zumba or badminton or any new physical activity hobby I am exploring, or maybe its Saturday and I have planned an outing with one of my friends, drinking coffee with good view or going shopping or movie, return home at 8 or 9, make healthy salad or light dinner for myself, watch telivision or read something calm and sleep again as new day with more creativity is waiting ahead.

Week 4: Putting Study into Study Abroad
Hello everyone! This week has been so busy and I'm so excited to share it with you.
Belfast
On Saturday we had a day trip to Belfast, but me and some friends decided to stay the night to go to Giants causeway the next morning. The field trio portion consisted of a political bus tour where we explored the protestant and catholic portions of Belfast, and a museum.

It was really cool to see everything as it really applied to what we were learning in class. The UCD team really does an amazing job making sure our field trips align with what we're learning in class.
After that, everyone else went home and it was time to explore Belfast. On the field trip itself we didn't have much time to see the city (we had about an hour and a half but we were also supposed to get lunch in that time), so staying the night was well worth it. I got to see the cathedral, the clock tower, and the government building. Dinner was really rough as every place we went to either didn't have their kitchen open or were reservation only, so note to everyone, book your restaurants ahead. Now all I need to worry about is whether or not this counts as a trip outside of the country? It was more than one day, but it is still Ireland, so I don’t think it really counts? Not that this will be a problem for much longer (foreshadowing).

The Giant's Causeway
We took a half day tour from Belfast to the Giants causeway to ensure we'd be getting back to Dublin on time. It was nice to not do public transport as I was able to sleep the majority of the time. The Causeway Itself was absolutely amazing, it was so cool to see the natural formations of the cooling lava. I would say it's definitely a must see if you're ever in Northern Ireland.

(of course I have to mention listening to the hit 2017 pop song Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran again!)
Field Trip to Prison
On Monday we went to prison! It was surprisingly pretty, I actually enjoyed it. The prison held rebels from the 1916 rising, the rebellion, and general prisoners. The youngest prisoner ever held there was a 3 year old for stealing bread. Insane.

School
The rest of this week hasn't included too much exploring, mostly just school work. So, I feel it's finally time to share with you how academics work here (putting the study into study abroad). We have two classes, Physics and History. Both classes consist of every person in the program and are in pretty big lecture halls. Lectures for both classes are 2 hours long with a 10 minute break in the middle. UCD also does Michigan time with classes ending 10 minutes early.

History is lectures with one tutorial a week, and all the field trips count towards our attendance and coincide with what we are learning. We typically have 2 lectures and a field trip every week. Then, every Friday from 2-4pm we have tutorial. We're split into 3 groups, by alphabet, for tutorials. There's pre-class readings we need to complete for discussion. Also during tutorial is when we do our presentations. Everyone has to do a 5 to 8 minute presentation while we're here, worth 30% of our history grade. I had mine last week and it really wasn't bad. In the very first tutorial, we picked a question to answer. All the questions already had set presentation dates. All the research, putting it into a powerpoint, and making a 2 page summary of my presentation took about 3 hours. The final exam, we’re told, is going to be two essay questions that will be based on readings we're given before. History comes out to be 20% participation/attendance, 30% for the presentation, and 50% for the final exam.
Physics is lectures, tutorial, and lab. In tutorial, we break into groups of 4 or 5 and complete a worksheet together. It's really not bad, and there are tutors around to answer any and all questions. Tutorials are two hours long, but usually they take my group between an hour and an hour and a half. Labs are 3 hours long, although usually only take 2. There have been very few times where the lap lasted the entire 3 hours. Labs here are very different to UofM. There’s no coding whatsoever, and everything we do is measured by hand or using tools.
Physics is graded with 15% tutorials, 25% lab, 10% midterm, and 50% for the final. The midterm Quiz was open book and 10 multiple choice questions. As easy as that may sound, it really wasn't. The class average was a 5.7/10. You do have to pay attention to lectures! The final is going to be closed note, and we will only be provided with an equation sheet. It will be open response and partial credit will be awarded (thankfully).
In order for credit to transfer to UofM, we need a 40%, or a D-, to pass. Honestly, I think as long as you attend class, you'll pass. Lectures and tutorials really setyou up for success. History is the same, pay attention and do the readings and you'll learn. The days are long, usually lasting from 9 am to 5 pm (and dinner is from 5 to 6:30, so sometimes you're not getting home until 6 pm) there are days where classes finish at 1 pm, and those are really nice. And on field trip days, the second half of the day is out exploring.
Sweet Treats
I just want to share that I got ice cream twice this week, and both times were absolutely amazing. The first, in Belfast, I got a biscoff ice cream, absolutely delicious, I definitely reccomend going to Mackies. It was pretty inexpensive, too! I also got an ice cream in dublin after the prison museum on Tuesday, it was a ferrero roche sundae. Im not saying american ice cream is bad, but I am definitely saying that Ireland knows what its doing. I think, since coming here, I’ve had some of the best ice cream of my life.

This week, although stressful with rhe midterm, was a pretty good one. Im really looking forward to next week as I have lots of things planned! This weekend I'll be in Edinburgh, Scotland, and next week I'm planning on seeing The Book of Kells, Howth, and trying some restaraunts in dublin. Surprising enough, I actually haven't eaten anywhere downtown besides mcdonalds as I've either not been here, or bought microwave meals on weekends. During the week we get lunch and dinner, so I definitely wouldn't give up a free meal to pay for one.
Anyways! I'm rambling!
Updated Goals:
Thrift a leather jacket
Make new friends
See a highland cow
Try a Guinness
Go on a trip outside of the country
Go somewhere alone again!
Go to Galway and listen to the hit 2017 song Galway Girl by Ed Sheeran
Go to a National Park
I’ll see you guys soon!

Top 10 Benefits of One-on-One Online Tutoring for Students
In today’s digital-first world, education is changing fast—and for the better. One-on-one online tutoring is quickly becoming a preferred choice for students and families across Canada, the UK, the USA, and Australia. Why? Because it’s personalized, flexible, and, well, it works.
At TutorX, we specialize in connecting students with expert tutors who adapt lessons to each child’s unique learning style. If you’re wondering whether one-on-one tutoring is right for your child, here are ten compelling (and research-backed) reasons to consider it.
1. Personalized Attention
Let’s start with the obvious. In a one-on-one setting, your child has the tutor’s full attention—no distractions, no waiting their turn. This tailored approach allows for lesson plans that align directly with their needs and learning goals. In fact, studies show that personalized learning can improve academic outcomes by up to 43% compared to traditional classroom methods.
2. Flexible Scheduling
Whether you're managing sports, extracurriculars, or just a busy family calendar, flexibility is crucial. One-on-one online tutoring allows you to book sessions at times that work for you—after school, on weekends, even during school breaks.
3. Comfort of Home Learning
