Silk satin & linen waistcoat. Early 19th century according to Kerry Taylor Auctions, but to me it looks much more 1780's. That closely spaced double breasted look is a very 80's style, and in the 1790's the 2 rows of buttons get much further apart.
The slanted collar and lack of big lapels do give it a somewhat early 19th century look, but I suspect this is altered from a longer waistcoat of at least a few decades earlier. The way the front edge curves just looks "off" for this later style, and the buttonholes appear to be the earlier style that are long and only partially opened, so you can have small buttons and a long decorative buttonhole. Very clever to just sew another row of buttons onto the ends to update the look!
Also you'll notice in the last picture that the linen thread used to whip the lining down around the buttonholes is the same weight as the stuff used to sew on the buttons, but a totally different colour! The fact that the button threads are visible at all is another strong point in favour of it being altered, since the typical 18th century construction involves sewing the buttonholes and attaching the buttons before the lining is added, and we can see from the backs of the buttonholes that those were done in that order.
Anyways, the reason I wanted to post this in the first place is because I think the piecing is cool. Look at how economical they're being with their scraps! (Lots of extant garments are like this but it's no less delightful for being common.) The narrower strip at the side looks like it may have been added even later to accommodate growth, but the bit of linen that the pocket welt overlaps must have been there from the time it was cut down and updated. I love the little triangle bit of piecing on the collar lining, but the most exciting scrap is the piece of ikat on the back of the collar!

I have plenty of larger pieces of wool, but sometimes it's really fun to try and squeeze the biggest garment you can out of an unpicked pencil skirt. The pieces were given to me years ago and were originally navy blue, but I overdyed them with magenta to make them purple. This has been on The Pile for months and I'd really like to finish it before the weather gets warm, it'll go so well with both of the shirts I'm currently working on.

Put together a few more Ice Cream Soda blocks over the weekend and love how they're turning out so far!
Many of the blocks I've made so far have had many different colours used throughout the three rounds, but I felt like playing around with some monochrome ones this time around!
Also, I realized this quilt is coming up to one year in progress soon!

I can't say talking about weed two days before payday is the worlds greatest idea because now I want more gummies (Ive had headaches all week mostly because of the weather changes and today was the first time in a week I managed to catch the bus I need to catch to get to work early enough to get a cup of coffee) but maybe I'll go to the Weedery on Friday?
I am working on a quilt top for my alleged grandniece coming in a couple months and I'm trying to find a good mix for my grandnephew and like, I don't mind giving a boy something pink but I wish there'd be a better balance between "gray and brown forest print" and "Tula Pink Dinosaur collection".

I have again left no room for seam allowance. I don't like this one as much as the others, but I got to push through. I've gone through several squares of fabric trying to figure out what I want. I'm pretty sure at this point I have more duds than I have squares I want to use.

quilt patchwork blocks
Okay, world of quilters / people who like patchwork.
Suggest a quilt pattern to me. Within certain permutations.
My very favorite is the Lemon Star, which is the Lemoyne Star except you cheat by using half square triangles instead of diamonds. But I've done that on a quilt for my sibling AND the wallhanging I'm working on now, so not that one.
I have only the feeblest of applique skills, so not likely to go for major applique. Not interested in wholecloth quilts.
Traditional American patchwork piecing is what floats my quilting interest boat. I haven't done curved work yet. I'm willing to try it as long as it's not TOO complicated. I don't care for the modern stuff where they just sew a bunch of rectangles together. Boring. And anything enthusiastically described as "scrappy!" probably not going to work for me. (I mean. I might use scraps. But not stuff specifically designed to just vomit scraps onto it.) I love designs using half square triangles.
Reblog and suggest a cool patchwork block pattern! Or reblog so that someone else will suggest one.

Had to take this quilt top and backing to the library to be able to have a large enough room and enough tables to lay it out to pin together. It took 7 - 6’ Tables. It took me about 2 hours but it’s all pinned and ready to be sewn together. All pinned it measures 94"W x 116"L - An extra-long queen size. A usual queen is 90" W x 108"L This quilt top was hand painted and pieced together by a woman back in 1984 but then she passed away before it was completed. I added the green outer borders and did the quilting. The backing wraps around to the front to form the edge binding.

More progress on my Stars of the Lily Pond quilt!
I really love these colours together and have been having a lot of fun transforming the original Stars of the City pattern into something totally new!

Roughly a year and a half - over 800 hexis, using mostly scraps.
I went from knowing nothing about English Paper Piecing to making a coaster and a pillow before I dove headfirst into a quilt (highly recommend). I didn't plan at all (less recommended) and I worked on this in the most chaotic way possible. The only quilt I've actually ever finished (the one in middle school where I hadn't discovered measuring and ended up pin basting with safety pins and just bound it and left pinned and not quilted does NOT count).
