The rightmost third of my Ice Cream Soda quilt is finally all in one big chunk!

There's still a few small pieces to add around the edges to square off this side, but those will join together really quickly!

I also have a bit of basting to pick out where the three chunks of this side were pieced together, but since it's way too hot to press those seams today, that will get done another time!

The stars are all sewn on but I may have to add more. This quilt is threadbare in places and I kept finding more really thin bits. Next I will quilt the stars just to give them a bit more strength. I hope this works. I am going to have to get moving and make a new queen sized quilt.

People who quilt, teach me your ways, do you hand piece and hand quilt, machine piece and hand quilt, machine it all, what're your methods? How do I best start? I can handle sew okay but it's really rough with a sewing machine, but I do have one that's only half broken so I could try

My sewing machine is in the shop for tension issues (😭) but all I want to do is put fabric together, so I’ve been hand piecing. Will eventually be a pot holder!

Finally working on a quilt with some semblance of planning in it! The bear and otter fabric are slightly more purple in real life but overall it's a very muted blue-grey palette. 36 out of 384 half square triangles pieced, only 348 to go!

New quilt top! Hand piecing log cabins is the Best since most of the seams don't need to nest.

i usually press my seams open after each one is sewn. so two squares together to make a rectangle then press the seam open then sew that to another rectangle and press that seam etc. this really helps to keep the whole thing sitting flat and beautifully. also a note on cutting: if you are using scissors currently, i really recommend getting a rotary cutter if you are able to because they're much better for your hands.

Ah I was wondering when I should press the seams. I need to work on my iron setup; my new apartment is quite small, there's few outlets, and it's difficult to find somewhere I can sit to iron with it. I think my board also sucks maybe ? I got it out of the dumpster several years ago (washed the cover of course; it just likes to make wrinkles In a way that ironing on the floor does not. Unfortunately floor doesn't work with my back at all). So I'm doing all my ironing in one go so that I don't have to keep packing up the board, which is difficult.

And yeah...rotary cutter and mat is definitely the next thing I'm buying when I have any spare money. I messed up my thumb so bad, not even sure I can finish cutting stuff with it like this. Thanks for the advice !

Finally trying quilting, but I'm using cotton fabric and it's fraying crazy amounts! Any way to avoid this? I'm going to size down the needle and use the thread pictured for the quilting stitches later, if that's relevant
