A Study of Plarn

When I was in 6th grade, one of my teachers came in with a computer bag crocheted entirely out of single-use plastic grocery bags. I spent the evening researching this new material: plarn. I found patterns and videos detailing how to crochet with this waste generated by consumerism. While I knew it wouldn't solve the problem overall, I tried over and over again to create beautiful things out of plarn. In the summer of 2024, I decided to test my ability to manipulate this material. Is it possible to make a lightweight version of plarn? I brought out a small tapestry loom, my drop spindle, and a grocery bag sitting in my kitchen cupboard. Magically, spinning strips of the plastic made a beautiful weaving.

the scene? one of those coop antique stores where each seller gets a booth, in a booth with clothing
