Safi'jiiva Plush Update

While working on Pukei Kadachi (which is now complete, so go check it out), I was working on the concept for this one (and another, but I'll get to that later).

This is how far I have progressed with this project as of the time of writing. I'll probably need to make adjustments, but it is going along well. This will most likely be a bigger project than anticipated. Thankfully, I have more time on my hands to make any adjustments if needed.

For those wondering, yes, many of my patterns are based on 3D models that I make from scratch.

I always start out with a sketch of the monster in my style. Either the whole thing or parts of it, to get an idea of what details I want. Parts that I sketch out sometimes don't stick and are always subject to change.

Then I make a ref sheet, some of you may recognize the layout of this as a more traditional looking model sheet, just enough for what I need, the shape of the main plush. It just makes the whole modeling process easier and more towards how it will look in testing.

Then I go to modeling. I try to go for sorta low poly, nothing too extreme, but the goal is usually to get a sense of scale and placement of the seam lines for plush making. Here, I can easily make any adjustments like head and wing size (common things I adjust). It's easier for me to take the UVs and make a pattern out of them.

Yes, I am also making an Arkveld plush. This one is pretty far along and might get done sooner than the due date I have for this. I've decided to make 2 of these, one smaller (similar to this size) for a friend and a larger one for a commission.

I'll post updates on this as I go along.

Making a large Hisuian Typhlosion plush

After I completed the Johto version I immediately went on to make the Hisuian as well. Ever since the game came out I've wanted to make a plush of this Pokemon, and after 2 years of searching I finally found the perfect purple fur, so you understand my fingers were just itching to begin!

I'm so glad I did start on the Johto version first; I had planned out the placements of face and neck markings totally wrong, as it turned out when I modelled it on the existing plush! Now I could get it right in one go. The pattern I used for this plush is almost identical to the first, I only changed the markings, made the forehead piece a wee bit wider, and slimmed down the curve of the back and flanks, to make it a little less bulky and more lithe in appearance.

Embroidering 8 spots (!!) was a chore, but they turned out really nice, it was definitely worth the effort!

Next Thursday 4/10 we will be opening bidding for these cordyceps infected goats just in time for the return of the Last of Us tv series! We found the games beautiful and profoundly emotionally impactful and wanted to celebrate!🍄‍🟫

I have had several projects lined up already. Exciting stuff! Just a quick note of what's going on in this small corner of Tumblr.

I have been revisiting an older plush. If this looks familiar, yes, this is my Mizusune pattern from a while back.

I'm just trying to optimize my workflow, and it's turning out really well. Just a quick thing while the main project is being developed.

There is another plush I am revisiting that is one of my more recent works, but more on that later.

Working on a big, floppy Quilava plush with removable flames! It's not quite lifesize but it should be able to balance over my shoulder just fine :D

This man is so well behaved!! I didn't even have to use any darts (the sewing technique lol)!!!!!

Anyway :) I think the pattern is finished now? I just have to test it out with some scrap material 👀

I can’t believe I hardly shared pics of Douman! I made him last October. He was such a challenging plush to make, I got to use a lot of techniques on him: hand and machine embroidery and sewing, gradient dyeing, complex htv (which is holographic to mimic the fire/molten look), etc.

There are some things I would approach differently now, but overall I’m happy with the results! (He was a private comm & nfs.)
