Just popping in to say hi. I had to represent and share my love of pink. It’s one of my favorite colors. Happy National Pink Day! I’ll be back soon I promise just trying to get back to at least feeling 85%. I posted this on my stories a while ago, but wanted to add some background. I got some new glasses!!! Just in case you never noticed the glasses change, lol. Now you know. 😁 Growing up getting the choice of what I got to wear was a privilege my parents made sure my little brother and I had. As a kid we didn’t appreciate what seemed like a small thing to us then, but they were teaching us about free will. That our choices impacted us. I like to think because of them letting us have a voice so early (out the womb) we got to determine who we wanted to be. I also learned we could change our mind at anytime. This mindset I apply to my sewing. With every piece I make I get to choose how it makes me feel and who I want to be. Like do I want to be sexy and sophisticated, sassy and girlie, or just plain goofy and fun? What’s neat is they are all me. I just choose what I let shine that day. Day 14 of #memademay2021 Did you catch my stories today? If not here’s a quick update. Jack screamed this morning at 4 am. I thought it was a nightmare, which experts say don’t wake him because he may bite me so I just sat in bed waiting for him to settle down and then wake up like normal. Long story short JJ left us a puppy surprise. So he did have a nightmare which was also mine. I’ve been taking care of him and cleaning all morning so the blog post I was going to release is being postponed. The images haven’t loaded all week and I didn’t have time to redo them today. I couldn’t go today without wishing all the mother’s in my life and those I don’t know personally, but follow me a Happy Mother’s Day. I hope that the day is everything that you needed and hoped for. I am sending out a hug to those who are not able to talk to their mothers because they are no longer with us. I know days like today are very hard for you so you are in my thoughts as well. And to the special lady I call Mamita. Words cannot express how much I love you. You are my A1 Day 1. You have been the voice in my head (literally, since we sound alike). My shoulder to cry on, comic relief, my road dog, my friend and so much more. Growing up you used to say that you are not our friend, but our mom. I am happy to say that has changed and you are friend to. I love that our relationship has blossomed and can’t wait to see how it grows. Thank you for all the life lessons and love. In honor of National Wear Red day. I pulled this red number from the archives. Most of you know I suffer from blood clots and pulmonary embolism, which is due to a protein S deficiency that was triggered by taking birth control to control my fibroids. Yeah, I know how wild that sounds, but I am not alone. Blood clots left untreated can lead to cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes. These diseases cause 1 in 3 deaths in women every year making it the number one health related killer in women. So this is near and dear to my heart. Happy hump day! This has been a rough week and it’s only Wednesday. For me days blend together since I really don’t have any days off. Shout to all my small business owners out there. For me when I take a day or two off it means I’ll have a long night the next day playing catch up so #selfishsewing is my way of getting some stress out. Here’s one of my makes that I am dying to finish. I have been waiting on bias tape since I don’t go to stores if I can help it and this dress that has taken me over a month to make has shown me that plans are all well and good, but sometimes you just need to roll with the unexpected. This whole year has been about rolling with the punches or ducking and weaving. It’s definitely helped me see where I am and where I hope to be. How about you? What have you learned this year? “Perfection doesn’t leave room for growth.” Introvertstylist ⠀ That’s what I keep telling myself every time I look at this waist band. This is my first caftan. I never really thought this was my style of fashion, but I am not afraid to try something new. The project called for some hand stitching at the waist and I have to say that isn’t my strongest sewing technique. I have to redo the stitching because it’s uneven, but the fact that I can see that shows growth, right? ⠀ I don’t claim to know everything, but what I do know and have learned I am willing to share. ⠀ So my one bit of advice is make a Muslin of a pattern. If you aren’t sure what that is it is basically a first draft of a sewing pattern. You work out the kinks before you use your desired fabric with a pattern you may not even like. It’s no different than trying on clothes. You test out patterns to see if they work for your style and body type and if they don’t back on the shelf they go. But you don’t want to waist your good fabric on an experiment that could go wrong so purchase similar cheaper fabric to try out first. 🤗 ⠀ How are you working on your growth today? ⠀ Make sure to check out my IGTV. And just like that I created my FIRST jumpsuit! I have been obsessed with jumpsuits for … well as my hubby would put it at least as long as we’ve been together. 5 years in November. 🙃 They are so comfy in my opinion. I couldn’t wait to share this with you all because sometimes we get in our own way. We lack the confidence to do something that isn’t as scary as we thought. This jumpsuit has been on my to do list for over a year if that isn’t example enough. I just used what I learned so far in @Sewitacademy when I made my leggings.
