A Small is A Small

Like any tradition, I order out the day before Thanksgiving because I’m going to be in the kitchen, so why would I want to cook two days in a row? In honor of this great ritual, I chose to indulge in Del Taco. Apparently, I was not the only one with this idea. As the food took longer to come than I thought it would. When the food arrived, I was in shock to say the least. I ordered a medium Cherry Coke (my favorite if you ever want to get on my good side, lol). What I received was a large that they called a medium. 

I will not go on about how Americans are obese and that Fast food industry is in cahoots with keeping us that way by giving us larger portions and calling it something else. Blah, blah, blah...It just got me thinking about how drink sizes have changed, but the size of clothes hasn’t. The size small shirt in my store now still has the same measurements that my small shirt from high school has.  If we think about it, fashion has never lied to us. 

If you gain weight and can no longer fit a small the industry is not going to change the measurements of a small to make you feel better. They keep it real. This is why I love this industry. I don’t want anyone making me feel it is okay to be unhealthy and obese, especially because I have a heart condition and need to eat right to avoid kicking the bucket. If you gain weight and can no longer fit the clothes you used to wear, you do one of two things:

1. Exercise to get back in shape and rock your favorite pair of “freak em” jeans

or 

2. You accept that you have a little more butt to work with and get a new pair of jeans. 

The worse is those who are in denial and still wear the small knowing that it is suffocating them, but deep down they know the truth. It’s time to let go honey. I say all of this to say, let your wardrobe help you determine if it is time to change some habits. I’m already working on changing mine by completing my next round of 21 day Fix. I plan to be in my favorite jeans again soon.

This weekend has been full of celebration. Chris and I just hung out for Juneteenth. And while chilling I found this picture and thought it was perfect for today. This is what we call Black Joy. We did a family photoshoot after we had all seen Black Panther and just had a ball. It was actually the last time I remember all of us being together. My mom and I were behind the camera on this shot. Now today, I am still getting over a nasty cold that I’ve had all week. But I got out of bed to make sure I FaceTimed with my Dad and wish the men in my life a Happy Father’s Day. To all you Dads, soon to be dads, and even fur dads. I want to wish you a Happy Father’s Day too. Hopefully, it has been relaxing and just want you needed. STOP ✋🏽Take a second and appreciate how far you’ve come. Did you do it? I really hope so. It’s so easy to get caught up in the future without acknowledging the past. I’ve been trying to do that more and more these days. It’s been three months since I was in the hospital and today I can stand on my own without needing my husband or an emergency team on hand. I am grateful to be alive and spend the holidays with my little family. So if you see me cheesing like I am in these pics then you know why. What’s something that you are grateful for today? Just popping in to say hi. I had to represent and share my love of pink. It’s one of my favorite colors. Happy National Pink Day! I’ll be back soon I promise just trying to get back to at least feeling 85%. I posted this on my stories a while ago, but wanted to add some background. I got some new glasses!!! Just in case you never noticed the glasses change, lol. Now you know. 😁 Growing up getting the choice of what I got to wear was a privilege my parents made sure my little brother and I had. As a kid we didn’t appreciate what seemed like a small thing to us then, but they were teaching us about free will. That our choices impacted us. I like to think because of them letting us have a voice so early (out the womb) we got to determine who we wanted to be. I also learned we could change our mind at anytime. This mindset I apply to my sewing. With every piece I make I get to choose how it makes me feel and who I want to be. Like do I want to be sexy and sophisticated, sassy and girlie, or just plain goofy and fun? What’s neat is they are all me. I just choose what I let shine that day. Day 14 of #memademay2021 Did you catch my stories today? If not here’s a quick update. Jack screamed this morning at 4 am. I thought it was a nightmare, which experts say don’t wake him because he may bite me so I just sat in bed waiting for him to settle down and then wake up like normal. Long story short JJ left us a puppy surprise. So he did have a nightmare which was also mine. I’ve been taking care of him and cleaning all morning so the blog post I was going to release is being postponed. The images haven’t loaded all week and I didn’t have time to redo them today.
