Shinsuke Kita is a man who likes what he likes and gives little thought to things he doesn't. He'll go about his daily routine: rise with the sun, eat, morning ablutions, out to the fields until lunch, take a break, then back into the fields until dinner, do chores around the house then a small past time or two until it's time for bed. Unless it's the weekend or a game day, then he goes to Onigiri Miya to catch up with Osamu, Gin, Akagi and Omimi around lunch time.
However, he finds himself going to Onigiri Miya a little earlier on some days with the hopes of catching you while you're on shift. You're a part-timer and university student—but Osamu has been telling him that you have the chops to run the restaurant by yourself. "I know I don't hafta worry about leavin' for an hour or so. S'good feeling, Kita."
It's easier to like someone if a friend vouches for them. Yes, that must be the reason he's fond of you, because Osamu is. He arrives at the restaurant an hour early—an electronic bell chimes through as he enters. It's busy as usual but there's no line.
"Welcome!" You look up from the register and beam. "Kita-san! I'll call the boss over, he's in the back doing inventory."
Before he can protest, you've bounced away. He hears a muffled conversation the opening of a door and a moment later Osamu takes your place with a raised eyebrow. "Yer awfully early, Kita. S'not delivery day is it?"
"Nah, nothin' like that. Just... Had some spare time."
"Spare time huh." Osamu repeats, like he's tasting the words for the first time. "Well, did ya want anythin' ta eat? The usual?"
"Sure, that'll do."
"Uh-huh." Osamu leans back to shout into the kitchen. "Go ahead and make Kita his usual!"
You respond in a sing-song voice. "Already started!"
Shinsuke can't help the grin that hitches onto his features even as Osamu casts a wary but amused eye over him. The two men make eye contact for a few beats before Osamu sighs. "Please don't go scarin' off some of the only good help I've been able ta find."
"Wouldn't dream of it."
"Yeah-huh."
But nothing else can be said on the subject because you emerge from the back with a tray laden with food. There's even a side of fried tofu—not typically part of his order. You must have seen him looking because you hurriedly explain, "The boss said you like tofu, so I just did some up. I hope that's ok." Osamu rolls his eyes and walks back to the kitchen, catching Kita's eye as he goes.
"S'just fine." Kita takes the tray. "But I'd like to repay ya."
"You don't have to do that! It's my pleasure." You try and reassure.
"Then it'd be my pleasure to make ya dinner some time. Could do it today, after the game if that's ok?"
As you fumble through saying yes, Shinsuke savors his first bite of food. Yeah, he could eat your cooking for the rest of his life he thinks. It would be a nice addition to his routine.

I Choo-choose You week
Day 4- Date
Okay oops. I'm not as happy with this one for some reason, so please have the relevant excerpt from my WIP Ingo/Reader fic.
Flustered Ingo tooth-rotting-sugary fluff under the cut.
The Tracks We Take
The park is peaceful this time of day, the golden glow of the late afternoon sun filtering through the trees, casting dappled light across the grass. Your Pokémon play nearby— Darumaka happily chasing after Duosion, who bobs along, unbothered by his antics, like a bubble on the breeze. Ingo’s team roams, enjoying the open air, though his Excadrill sits in the shade, half-buried in the dirt, content to rest.
You're leaning back on your hands, legs stretched out across the large blanket Ingo had brought. It's peaceful. It's almost hard to imagine that you had both been so nervous for this. It's your first date, but it feels… right. Easy. The wind ruffles your hair and you breathe in a deep, content breath.
And yet.
For the last few minutes, you’ve watched Ingo, seated beside you, slowly become more tense. His previously loose posture has become rigid and he's fidgeting with a blade of grass, brows furrowed as he stares intently at the ground.
He wants to say something.
You know him well enough to see the signs. That way his shoulders keep tensing; how he inhales as if to speak, only to stop and exhale again, silent.
You wait, giving him time. There's no rush.
But after his third failed attempt, you can't help but to take pity on him. You shift a bit closer, brushing your hand lightly over his. The contact startles him, and he flinches slightly, grass falling to the blanket.
"Ingo," you say gently. "Whatever it is, I promise there's nothing you could say that would make me love you any less."
His breath catches.
Slowly, he turns to look at you, his expression unreadable. Stunned, maybe, like he hadn’t expected you to call him out on his hesitance.
Then he swallows, and you see the tiniest twitch of the muscle in his jaw as he gathers his courage.
"Y/N," he says, his normally booming voice almost hushed. "I... I wish to ask you something that has been weighing on my mind."
You nod, moving your hand to slowly, deliberately squeeze his. "Go ahead."
He inhales deeply.
You're not sure what you expect. You're already past declarations of love. He's asked you on a date. What could he still be so–
"I wish to know… what you have imagined about me."
Your brain stutters to a halt, shocked at the sheer boldness of the request coming from Ingo of all people.
But despite his boldness, he looks like he might faint just from the mere thought that you've imagined him at all.
You remember the day you confessed that you love him. How Emmet had casually teased Ingo, asking how the real thing compared to the (many, many) nights he apparently lay awake imagining you doing so. How Ingo had felt so terribly embarrassed, thinking it indecent to imagine such things without your consent.
Your lips part, then close. You bite your lip realizing you aren't sure how to answer.
You take a moment, studying him. The tightness around his eyes. The way he stares at your hand on his, as though it’s the only thing keeping him tethered. The way his ears are a furious shade of red.
And you understand.
He wants to know, but he’s also terrified to know.
So you take your time, ever so gently twining your fingers with his. You can feel how warm he is, how his fingers twitch against yours, how he’s bracing as though expecting an impact.
"Ingo," you murmur, smiling softly. With his level of tension, you do have to wonder… "Would you like me to tell you the safe things I’ve imagined, or… or the scandalous ones?"
He– whimpers.
That's the only word for the strangled sound that espapes his tight throat. Quickly, he looks away, free hand coming up to press against his mouth as if that will somehow contain his mortification.
But he doesn’t let go of your hand.
And that?
Tells you all you need to know.
—Ingo—
Ingo swallows, staring at the blanketed ground between you both as he struggles to find his words. He should not have asked. Arceus, what had possessed him to ask?
You are patient. You always are. You squeeze his hand gently, steadying him like a coupler, keeping his engine on the track despite his spiraling thoughts.
"Alright," you say at last when he still does not answer. Your voice is warm, reassuring. "I'll start with the innocent things."
He exhales slowly, tension in his shoulders easing just a bit even as he trembles slightly. It is not everything you have imagined, but it is… some of it, and perhaps... perhaps he can handle that much.
"I've imagined us doing things like this," you say softly, gesturing to the picnic spread. "Spending time together, talking, sharing meals. Just... being with you. I’ve imagined holding your hand while we walk through Gear Station, or bringing you a coffee while you work. Maybe lunch, during a busy day."
His breath hitches. That is– that is something he had not realized was even a possibility. You, beside him in the place that matters to him most. You continue on, seemingly unaware of the impact your words are having– he feels unsteady on the tracks. At risk of derailment.
"I’ve imagined you letting me borrow your coat when it's cold, because I know you’d do it in a heartbeat."
He clears his throat, trying not to sound as flustered as he feels. "That is… correct." He would gladly do so. Would love to do so. The thought of seeing you in his coat is also- pleasant.
He glances over. Sees your pleased grin, and the sight of it makes his heart stutter.
"And sometimes, when I can’t sleep, I imagine what it would be like if I could just rest my head against you. If you’d let me. If you’d want me to."
Ingo has no idea how to respond to that.
He tightens his grip on your hand instead, holding on to your warmth like a lifeline.
"Y/N…" he says, but nothing else follows.
He feels you lean in slightly, toeing the line of too close as your expression turns playful. Turns– knowing.
And then, in a voice so soft it barely exists, you whisper…
"But Ingo, I've also imagined kissing you."
His body jerks.
His mind goes utterly blank.
The words should not be scandalous. He should not be this affected. But he is.
It is too much.
Yet it is perfect.
He grips your hand tighter. Not exactly in panic. He just– cannot let go.
You watch him, waiting. Patient as always. Giving him space, giving him time.
"I just thought you should know," you say, so, so gently. Then you lean out of his space, slipping easily back as if you have not just derailed his engine entirely. "Now, do you want another berry skewer? Or should we go check on the Pokémon?"
Ingo does not know how to answer.
He cannot answer.
All he knows is that he is still holding your hand, and despite everything, despite how overwhelmed he is… he does not want to let go.

Hi hello hey
I really like ur writing and was wondering if you would like to write the player/player character being distraught that their partner Pokemon from wherever the player character came from didn't come with them and basically was just bummed put enough for arceus to go
"fine fine, geez, here's your dog..."
And then they're all happy with like, the biggest, scariest pokemon in the world
Being in a pokemon game should have been a dream come true.
And it was! It was so many people's dreams to be able to catch and interact with pokemon! Many people held this series near and dear to their hearts!
...Which is why you felt terrible for being so... upset.
When you ended up in the pokemon universe, one thing you always dreamed of was having your partner pokemon with you. One you always transferred between games, one you considered your good friend.
Sure, growing up, they may have been a set of pixels, but they always meant to you than that.
So to be in the pokemon world, and not have your partner pokemon?
It felt bittersweet.
Really, you felt bad for being upset. What right did you have to, when people would literally kill to be in your shoes?
So you tried to be optimistic, and you were still kind to any pokemon you came across.
But it wasn't the same.
Thankfully though, arriving here meant you caught different types of attention.
Include divine ones.
Arceus has been a surprise. You honestly had thought you were dreaming, but you suppose you shouldn't be too taken aback.
They were basically a god, and a cosmic being of sorts. Why wouldn't Arceus know of you arriving?
Though it's curiosity about you was a surprise, especially as it seemed content to observe your interactions with this world.
Arceus seemed happy though you were overjoyed to be here, though it seemed they noticed how you occasionally drew yourself back in when gazing at other pokemon.
Eventually, it grew curious enough to ask, sensing your sadness.
"Why does thou seem to lament seeing other pokemon? What bothers thou to bring such sadness?"
You jumped, not expecting such a question. After a moment, you sheepishly rubbed the back of your head.
"It's not the other pokemon that bother me, not at all! It's just..."
You were silent for a moment, a conflicted look on your face.
"I... Well... I had a partner pokemon, back in my world. Where this world is a game. A pokemon I traded across games. Or dimensions. Or whatever you want to refer to separate games as. I took them everywhere."
Looking down, you kicked a rock with your shoe.
"I don't mean to sound ungrateful, of course. I don't wish to complain. I'm quite literally living a dream here! I just..."
Taking a deep breath, you sighed while avoiding Arceus' eyes.
"I miss them. I wish I could have seen them at least."
Arceus was silent, noting the far off, yet fond look in your eyes. They could tell you clearly held this pokemon in high regard.
Eventually, you looked back up to Arceus.
"Don't worry about it. I promise to stop moping-"
"Doth thou really wish to see thy friend?"
Arceus' question caught you off guard.
"Huh?"
They tilted their head at you from above.
"The pokemon for which thou hath considered a companion."
You blinked.
"Uh...?"
Arceus put a leg forward, gently tapping the ground.
That's when you felt an odd, warm feeling in your chest, before a light was pulled out from it. A small orb of light floated in front of you, and you felt the urge to hold out your hands.
Slowly, the orb levitated into your awaiting grasp, and the light slowly dimmed, revealing a pokeball.
Looking up at Arceus in surprise, your eyes darted between the god and the pokeball in front of you.
You cradled it gently, almost unbelieving at what you were looking at.
"Is... Is this really...?" you tried to ask, your voice small, yet full of wonder.
Arceus made a noise that sounded almost like a hum, nodding at you.
"Perhaps... This shall ease thy sorrow, and bring thou comfort."
With shaking hands, you hit the button on the pokeball, releasing your friend from inside.
What followed was a loud cry as the ground shook, and you could only grin as the light cleared, and your friend was completely visible.
"Giratina!" You cried out in pure glee, running up to your partner pokemon with your arms in the air.
Giratina, your Giratina, let out a trill when they saw you. They shuffled on the ground to look at you, and made such a cute smile on their terrifying face.
The legendary pokemon leaned down, happily letting you run up and hug it's face while you laughed.
Arceus watched, keeping it's distance as you reunited with the pokemon you held so dear.
Perhaps this would change your mood, though Arceus hoped the locals wouldn't freak out by your giant friend who you no doubt would be keeping out of your pokeball...

I Want to Pepper You In Kisses
Tumblr media
Pairing: Arven x GN!Reader
Word count: 10K
Genres: fluff, hurt/comfort if you squint
Summary: Somehow, Arven’s journey to find Herba Mystica ended with him falling in love with you.
Tumblr media
Before Arven falls in love with you, he’s not entirely sure what to make of you. He honestly finds you a nuisance, along with that hyperactive student council president. Seeing the brute out and about feeds into his annoyance, too.
“What’re you doing out here?!” he yells, pointing an accusatory finger at the Pokémon his parent loved more than they loved him.
“Hey, please don’t get too angry – this sweetheart here helped me out,” you say.
Arven scoffs. “I’m not talking to you two. You can shove off.”
He expects you to get angry then and leave, but you don’t. Instead, your gaze softens for some unknown reason and he can’t maintain eye contact, so he looks away.
Then, the stupid student council president mentions his relation to the “great professor,” making anger course through his veins.
“It doesn’t matter who my parent is!” He crosses his arms, eyes narrowed into a glare as he tries to fight the bitterness rising in his chest. “The real issue here is what in the world this Pokémon is doing out here. And what’s with this form it’s in?”
“See, we heard this strange cry, and we tried to investigate it, but…” Nemona begins.
“But I fell off a cliff.” You give a small shrug with an awkward grin. “It wasn’t intentional.”
“And as mentioned earlier, this Pokémon came to the rescue!” Nemona beams. “But it seems like it wore itself out in the process. It got kinda… slumpy afterward. But you shoulda seen it before! It looked totally different – it was unbelievably strong!”
“Well, yeah. As it should be. But it can’t fight while it’s like this. The form you saw it take in battle – that’s its true form.”
“Heh,” you pat the brute’s head lovingly and Arven briefly wonders how your fingers would feel ruffling through his hair. He quickly shoves the thought from his mind. “You’re quite strong, huh?”
“...I don’t remember ever seeing you around. But given the uniform… You go to the academy too, do you?” he asks, making you nod. “Well, that brute isn’t the sort of Pokémon any old trainer can hope to command. It’s special.”
“Well, it definitely does seem that way,” you agree amicably as if he didn’t just insult your fighting prowess. Why aren’t you mad? Why aren’t you ignoring him? Why aren’t you… Ugh. He’s really not used to it and maybe that’s why he asks his next question.
“You think you’re up to ordering it around? Then how ‘bout I test your worthiness?”
You pause, seemingly surprised at his offer. You make eye contact with the brute who blinks at you, before cuddling its head into your side lovingly. You can’t help but laugh as you agree to battle him.
“I’ve been feeling all out of sorts, so I’m gonna use this battle to blast these doldrums away!” he announces, throwing out his newly caught Skowvet. He’s not really sure what outcome he expected, but he definitely didn’t expect you to absolutely pulverize him in battle.
“Good job,” you murmur sweetly as your starter Pokémon hops over to you, nuzzling your hand as you pet it. Arven can’t help but think about how warm your eyes look then, but he quickly glances away, afraid of being caught. You glance at Arven, who’s withdrawing his Pokémon into its ball. Smiling at him, you approach him, offering your hand. “Good battle.”
He doesn’t take it, instead opting to shove his Poké Ball back into his pocket. “I guess I wasn’t ever going to stand a chance using some Pokémon I’d only just caught…” he mutters. “But if you really think you can take that brute off my hands for me… you’ll need this. It’s its Poké Ball.”
You take it with a nod and a smile. “Thank you.”
Arceus, he’s really not used to people being nice to him. Or smiling. Or anything, really, so the softness in your expression throws him off wholly, making his ears feel hot. “Anyway,” he clears his throat, “that thing’s your problem now, not mine. Good luck.”
“Mhm,” you agree. “Thanks.”
“Yeah,” he says dumbly, “Uh. See you around, I guess.”
“See you!”
Arceus, he’s really not sure what to make of you.
His stance on your existence is further complicated as rumors about you seem to float around the school. He’s positive that the Academy has new students all the time, but for some reason you seem to stand out – and what’s this about you fighting Team Star? You’re definitely having some kind of day. Falling off a cliff, getting pawned an annoying Pokémon, beating up some Team Star grunt… you just seem to attract trouble.
Trouble…
An idea pops up in his head.
The next time he sees you, it’s during lunchtime. He notices you almost immediately and he tries to ignore the implications of that. He’s surprised to not see the annoying student council president next to you, but he takes it as his opportunity and slides up next to you as you browse the food selection in the cafeteria. “Oh, hey!” he catches your attention and you turn to him with a tilt of your head. He half expects your face to morph into one of disappointment but it doesn’t and it makes him feel… soft. Weird. He shoves the feeling down. “You remember me, right?”
You raise an inquisitive eyebrow, your lips twitching upwards. “I don’t think we’ve met…”
He must’ve made an odd expression, because a laugh jumps out of your throat.
“I’m kidding. From the lighthouse?’
“Yeah, exactly!” Arven feels oddly cozy. “That’s my little know-it-all buddy. Got a mind like a steel trap, eh?”
You blink at him, before saying, “I wouldn’t say that,” with a snort. “Ah, but I don’t think I’ve introduced myself –”
“Don’t worry about it.” Arven says your name. “That’s your name, right? The whole school seems to be talking about you. The new kid who showed up as the president of the student council.”
You scrunch up your nose a little at that. “I didn’t think I’d stand out that much.”
You stand out for a lot of reasons, Arven wanted to say, but instead says, “I normally wouldn’t even bother showing up for class, but I came all the way to school today just to talk to you, actually. Our new celebrity. You’ve gotta help me out so I can finally make my dream a reality!”
“Happy to help!” you respond, making him blink.
“Uh? What kind of little maniac says yes to something without knowing what they’re agreeing to?!”
“Well, you said it’s your dream, right?” you offer him a smile. “I dunno, I guess I’ve always admired people with dreams. Don’t really have any myself, so…” you give him a shrug. “What’s this dream?”
Your kindness makes him feel a little sick. He’s using you and you’re willing to be used – but before guilt can really settle in, he nods. Arven begins his spiel about picnics and sandwiches and health foods and he knows he’s rambling but you listen patiently. “...So. That’s the gist.” He rubs the nape of his neck. “I really want to get those herbs myself, but… I’m not very good at Pokémon battles. Don’t have any friends with strong Pokémon to lend me a hand, either.” Well, he didn’t really have friends, period, but he wasn’t going to say that. “And I’d never hear the end of it if I went crawling to that student council girl.” Arven inhales. “But then you waltz up! You’ve got to help me out with this – you’d be perfect!”
“Well–”
“Nope! Wait! I don’t need an answer yet! I’ll just register the places where it seems there might be Titans in your map app for you.”
You laugh. “Well, I’ve pretty much made my decision, but okay.”
“Just let it stew a bit,” Arven insists. “And we can get more into the details later.”
“Gotcha,” you nod. “I’ll get some food in the meantime. Wanna join?”
“I have places to be,” Arven responds. “I’ll talk to you later.”
“All right, fine by me. See you!”
When Arven leaves the cafeteria, he regrets not taking you up on your offer. But he pushes the thought away, fiddling with the old Poké Ball in his pocket – he has places to be.
When he sees you again, he almost groans in annoyance at seeing Nemona with you. Surely chattering on about battles. Again.
“Hey, little buddy!” he yells, running up to you both. Arven gives you a little nod of acknowledgement, before narrowing his eyes at Nemona. “Tch. How’s that for a student council president! Giving your own friends an insider advantage?”
You stand, an amused expression on your face, as Arven and Nemona argue.
“I can do both, you know.” You finally say, trying to appease them. Pulling out your Rotom Phone, you show them the places marked on your map app. “See? They’re all pretty close to each other. I’ll do them all as I tackle Paldea.”
“So you’ll challenge the gyms?” Nemona asks, a sparkle in her eyes. As you nod, she cheers. “En serio? How exciting!”
“...Tch, fine. As long as you help me tackle the Titans, I guess.” Arven relents. “Well, I’m outta here. Catch up soon, little buddy!”
You laugh. “I will!”
Arven won’t admit it, but his steps feel lighter at your agreement to help him.
---
The first time Arven falls in love with you, he doesn’t even realize he’s fallen. Instead, he recognizes the overwhelming sense of relief at seeing you run up to him.
“Hey, Arven!”
“Hey,” he says, his tense shoulders relaxing by seeing your smile.
“How’ve you been?”
“Eh, the usual,” he responds, before awkwardly tacking on, “You?”
“Heh, I’ve been good,” you respond. “You ready to look for the Stony Cliff Titan?”
Arven snorts. “You’re more excited than me.”
“What can I say?” your gaze is so kind as you look at him that it makes his cheeks warm. “I want to help you achieve your dream.”
“All right, all right,” he huffs, though he can’t help the smile that sneaks up on his face. “Let’s split up then, yeah? It should be around this area, but we can cover more ground this way.”
“Sounds good to me! Call me if you find it, okay?”
“‘Course,” Arven responds. “Same to you!”
He hadn’t expected to hear from you so fast. “Arven!” you exclaim, “I found it – whoa, dodge that!” you command as a rock hurtles towards your Pokémon. “Yeesh, this thing is huge!”
“I’m on my way!” he hurriedly says, worry lacing his voice. He couldn’t help it – you were battling a Titan by yourself. You guys were supposed to fight it together!
“Hah, don’t hurt yourself while rushing over here,” you laugh with ease and he’s surprised at how much your voice calms him down. “I’ll hold down the fort.”
Despite your words of assurance, he finds himself rushing to you. He can’t let you get hurt so early in the hunt, after all.
When he gets to where you are, you’ve already done a lot of damage to the Titan. His mouth gapes in surprise at the huge size of the Pokémon, as well how cheery you are as you wave at him. “Hey, Arven!” you beam.
“Behind you!” he yells, and you hurriedly turn your attention back to the battle, commanding your Pokémon to counterattack. He won’t lie – you look kind of cool like this. Like a hero. His hero. Arceus, that’s embarrassing, Arven thinks, burying that thought deep into the crevices of his brain.
“Thanks!”
“No problem, but… that’s the Stony Cliff Titan? No Klawf has got any business being that big!”
“Agreed,” you laugh, before tilting your head as you see the Klawf scrambling away. “Uh… Where’s it going?”
“It’s heading inside that cave…?” Arven’s eyes widen when the Klawf scrambles back outside with something in its hand.
“Do you think that’s–”
“A Herba Mystica!”
You and Arven watch as the Klawf gobbles the herb and it begins to glow, shaking with some immense power.
“You think it’s gonna be even stronger now, after eating all those herbs? Let’s watch ourselves!”
“You got it!” you nod. “I trust you to have my back!”
Arven can feel ears warm again as he tosses out his Shellder. You trusted him? You actually trusted him to have your back. Well, he can admit the feeling is mutual, at least. And, he won’t admit it to you, but watching you battle is riveting. The way your eyes shine, the confidence in your directions, you standing by his side – it makes his heart beat so fast he isn’t sure what to do with himself.
Adrenaline is still pumping through his veins when you’ve defeated the Titan, making his limbs feel jittery. His heart beats even faster as you turn to him, eyes crinkled at the sides as you raise your hand for a high five. Cute, he thinks as his palm makes contact with yours.
“We did it!” you cheer.
“Yeah,” he feels kind of breathless, but he can’t help the wide smile that overtakes his features. “Look at you – my little buddy; coming through like a champ!”
“I couldn’t have done it without you,” you respond, and Arven’s heart warms because he knows you could’ve done it without him. You’re so much better than him, after all.
He shakes his head at the thought, feeling his heart jolt painfully.
“These Titan Pokémon are… yeesh. I sure don’t like having something so tough out to get me.”
“Don’t worry!” When your laugh resounds again, Arven wonders how you can be so happy. “If they come for you, I’ll get them.”
His face heats up again as he clears his throat. “Anyway, I’m sure there’s more Herba Mystica somewhere back there – quick, let’s have a look before it comes back.”
You follow after Arven, asking, “Which one do you think we’ll find?”
“According to the book, it’s the Sweet Herba Mystica–”
“Whoa!” you trip, making Arven act faster than he thought possible. He grabs your arm as you stabilize yourself.
“Watch your step, it’s pretty dark,” Arven murmurs, removing his hand from your arm. He clenches his hand, still feeling your lingering warmth.
“Sorry, sorry,” you say.
“Nah, don’t apologize.” Arven pauses. “Uh, and if it helps… you can, uh, grab onto my vest or something.”
“I’ll take you up on that, actually,” you huff out a laugh, fingers gently grabbing the back of his vest. Arceus why did he offer this? He feels like he’s gonna die from how fast his heart is beating. Now he has to deal with making sure you both don’t trip and the thought makes him nervous (which is definitely, definitely the only reason his heart is beating so fast).
Before Arven can dwell in his thoughts for too long, his feet stop, making you bump into his back.
“Oof!”
Arven wants to apologize, but he can’t as his throat constricts at the sight of the pink herb glimmering in the dark. “It’s – it’s real. It’s real!” He feels like crying, but he holds it in, taking in a shaking breath. “Let’s see… The book says that the Sweet Herba Mystica is good for gut health and that it helps aid digestion. Says it’s good for stomach aches, too, or when you want to stimulate an appetite!”
“Heh, that battle stimulated my appetite enough,” you hum and Arven can’t help but agree.
“...Now, if I can just get him to eat some…”
You look at him curiously, but don’t pry, which he’s grateful for.
“All right! Now it’s my turn to show off what I can do. You’re about to get a taste of my cooking!”
“Looking forward to it!” you respond and Arven can feel a grin come on his face as he prepares to cook.
He first learned how to cook all those years ago because he was the only one who could take care of himself. His parent was always too busy to take care of him, after all, so he could only really rely on himself and Mabosstiff. Well, it worked out in the end – him cooking turned out to be a good enough bribe for you to help him, which he really didn’t expect. He was so used to expecting people to help him and no one coming through, so you being there felt odd. But it wasn’t a bad thing, really. He… just hopes you’ll be able to stick around till the end. Just until he can get all the herbs, at least.
Somehow, the thought that you won’t talk to him after you get all the herbs kind of bothers him.
“Here you go!” Arven announces, trying to rid himself of his thoughts. He hands you the plate with a sandwich on it.
“Oh, that looks delicious!” you beam, making his heart swell with pride.
“It’s an Arven-original sandwich packed full of herbs! And–” he digs through his pocket, handing you something that looks like a badge. “–I’ll even give you this. It’s called a Titan Badge. I modeled it after the gym badges.”
You let out a whistle. “This looks genuine,” you marvel. “You’re really good with your hands.”
“Nah, it’s really nothing,” he bashfully says, but the moment is interrupted as the brute springs out of its Poké Ball. “What’s up with that thing? It just comes out of its ball whenever it wants?”
“I guess?” you respond, patting your Pokémon lovingly. It purrs underneath your touch, before sniffing at your sandwich.
“Hey now,” Arven says. “That’s not for you.”
Even as Arven says that, you give the sandwich to the brute, making Arven sigh. He’s starting to think you’re a complete pushover.
“Hey! I went through all the trouble of making that for you, and you just give it away? I hope you realize that’s all there was, so now there’s none left for you.”
“Oh.” You hum in thought. “That’s fine, don’t worry. Sorry about giving your sandwich away, though.”
Your kind gaze makes Arven heave out another sigh. “Aw, come on! Now you’re making me feel bad,” he grumbles without any real bite. He cuts his own sandwich in half, offering it to you.
“Oh, you really don’t have to–”
“Just take it,” he responds. “You fought hard, y’know. You should eat.”
“...Thanks.” You take the sandwich from him. He watches you expectantly as you take a huge bite and he’d be lying if he wasn’t absolutely ecstatic when he sees your eyes light up. “This is good!”
“Heh, I’m glad you think so!” he boasts, pleased, before he looks at your Pokémon. “Hey… is it just me or has your brute–”
You clear your throat.
“–your partner gotten… stronger?”
“I think so,” you tilt your head. “You think you got stronger, ‘Don?”
“Agias!” it responds, making you laugh.
He stares at the way you two interact with each other and there’s this twinge of something that stabs at him. At one point, that was how he and his Mabosstiff interacted.
“Arven?” you ask him, cautiously.
He swallows. “The power of these herbs is really something! If they had that big of an effect on your Pokémon, then I bet…” he trails off. “I’ll start cleaning up – don’t worry about it!” he waves you away when you approach him to help. “You’ve done more than enough by defeating that Titan Pokémon. Leave the rest to me. Just… if you can, it’d be great if you could get started on searching out the other Herba Mystica for us.”
“You got it,” you salute. “See you, Arven. Thanks again for the sandwich!”
He watches as you disappear out of the cave, whispering, “I really owe you one.” He inhales, before carefully letting his Mabosstiff out. It’s been a while since Arven’s heard Mabosstiff’s bark, but he still can’t help the disappointment that settles in his bones when he sees that all his partner can do is heave labored breaths. Gently, Arven combs his fingers through Mabosstiff’s thick fur. “Hey, buddy,” he murmurs. “You think you can eat this for me?”
Mabosstiff merely whines in response and Arven can feel his heart clench uncomfortably.
“It’s okay, bud.” Arven breaks off small chunks of the sandwich, feeding them to Mabosstiff one by one, carefully watching Mabosstiff’s reaction.
Mabosstiff, the sweet friend that he is, slowly but surely eats what Arven offers.
“You know,” Arven says, scratching behind Mabosstiff’s ear. “I actually made this with someone else.”
In response to Arven’s words, Mabosstiff nuzzles into Arven’s knee. It’s a soft gesture that makes tears well up in Arven's eyes.
“Yeah, I just met them recently but… they’ve agreed to help me help you,” Arven begins, still gently patting his Pokémon. Arven begins talking about how strong you are and how pretty you are when you smile. How cool you are when you fight. Recounting stories about you, little snippets about how you laugh or how you say certain words, makes Arven’s heart feel strangely warm and before he knows it, Mabosstiff has been lulled to sleep, paws warmer than before.
---
The second time Arven falls in love with you, he’s so overwhelmed by your kindness that he doesn’t realize he’s in love.
“Second Titan down!” you cheer, holding up your hand for another high five. Arven can’t help but grin back, hitting your palm with his. There’s a pleasant tingle that spreads out across his palm.
“You were amazing there, y’know?” he says, adjusting his bag, which makes you peer at him curiously.
“Isn’t that heavy?”
“Nah, I’ve been lugging this thing for a while, so…” he shakes his head, tilting his chin towards the direction of the cave. “Let’s get goin’ before the Titan comes back for seconds.”
“You got it!” you agree, following after Arven.
“If we’re lucky, there’ll be another herb here…”
“Over there!” you point, making the both of you run to it.
“It’s a Herba Mystica!” Arven grins, looking at the green herb. “Thanks, really. If I can just get him to eat this…” his voice turns quiet as he gazes at the herb in silence. It’s the second herb out of five and Arven desperately, desperately hopes this will do something to help Mabosstiff.
“Arven…”
He lightly smacks his cheeks with his hands, trying to get rid of his negative thoughts. “Okay, let me whip something up for us!”
“...Okay,” you say softly with a smile. “Waiting for a good meal, chef.”
“You can count on it!” he responds as he gets ready to cook. It’s something he’s noticed lately, but sometimes he thinks about you while he’s cooking. It’s kinda embarrassing since you’re right there, but he can’t really help it. He didn’t think you’d pull through for a second time, which, maybe he shouldn’t have doubted you, but years of disappointment made it hard for him to expect things from anyone that isn’t him. Still, he’s so grateful because really, no matter how good his cooking is, there’s no reason to help him. After all, it wasn’t like you considered him a friend or anything yet, right…?
It would be nice if you did, though.
“All right, all done!” Arven announces. “Here you go! My special, whimsical, herb-filled super sandwich! And it comes with a Titan Badge!”
“I’m still impressed with how good these look.”
“Heh, I’m glad you – aw, come on! You again?” Arven groans, seeing your brutish partner pop out. It nuzzles into your side again, looking at you with big doe eyes as it begs for your sandwich. The brute took his parent, and now it’s trying to take you, too? He can’t help but feel a little jealous – wait. Jealous? Why would he feel jealous…? Arven shakes his head, trying to get his thoughts in order. Still, he can’t help but pout when the Pokémon looks at him and mewls. “...Hmph. Is it trying to say thanks or something?”
“Maybe,” you laugh. “It really liked your sandwich. I’m not a bad cook or anything, but ‘Don will longingly stare in the distance sometimes when it eats my cooking – probably thinking about yours, heh.”
Arven clears his throat to tamper out the embarrassment that he’s feeling. “Well, it’s a good thing I made extra, then.”
“Oh?” there’s a teasing glint in your eyes that makes his cheeks flush.
“I just made extra ‘cause you’ve been helpin’ me a lot!” there’s a small frown on his face, though it’s not malicious, “I definitely, absolutely, did not make extra for your partner.”
You raise your hands as a testament of peace, though there’s still a teasing grin on your face because you both know he’s lying. He’s thankful when you don’t push, though, instead opting to take his sandwich from him. “This smells great, Arven!” Beside you, your partner yips happily, nudging you to hurry up and feed it. With a laugh – one that Arven absolutely does not think is cute – you give your partner its sandwich. After it gobbles down its sandwich, it glows brilliantly, making Arven’s eyebrows rise.
“Did it grow stronger again?”
“I think so!” you beam, patting your Pokémon. “Look at you go!”
“Man… these Herba Mystica really do pack a punch, huh? I mean, they ought to, or else–” Arven’s eyes widen as your Pokémon lumbers over to an extra sandwich on the table. The Pokémon’s action makes rage bolt through Arven, but even more than that, panic. “Don’t you dare touch that – it isn’t for you!” His shoulders are tense as he yells, his voice echoing throughout the cave. Both you and your Pokémon blink in surprise and Arven tries his best to control his ragged breathing, but it’s hard.
“Arven,” you murmur, placing a hand on his shoulder. He expected you to slap him for yelling at your Pokémon, so your soft touch gives him whiplash. “I’m sorry about ‘Don. Are you all right?”
“Yeah – yeah.” He’s not sure why you’re able to help calm him down so quickly, but there’s a sense of peace that thrums through his veins, allowing him to think a little clearer. “Yeah.”
“‘Don.” There’s a chastising lilt to it that makes your Pokémon bow its head apologetically. It purrs, slinking away from the table and curling up.
“...I’m sorry, too. I shouldn’t have shouted like that…” Arven inhales, the air feeling heavy in his lungs. “I… guess I should at least tell you the full story.” Fiddling with the Poké Ball in his pocket, Arven intakes another deep breath, before letting his beloved Mabosstiff out. “This is Mabosstiff, my partner.” Arven takes the extra sandwich off of the table, breaking it into smaller chunks and feeding it to Mabosstiff. “Here you go, bud. Eat up. This sandwich should help you feel better. Slowly now. Take your time. Small bites are fine. Just chew nice and slow…”
Mabosstiff does as instructed, slowly, but surely, eating out of Arven’s hand. You watch the scene silently, but kneel down next to Arven. It’s an odd feeling, but Arven can’t help but appreciate the fact that you’re still here.
“...My buddy here was… hurt pretty bad a while ago. Real bad, in fact. He never really recovered,” Arven says, feeling tears well up in his throat.
“Oh, Arven… I’m so sorry,” you murmur, hand gently rubbing his back. Before he’s cognizant of what’s happening, you’ve drawn him to your chest, giving him a hug. You have to angle yourself a little oddly because he’s so much taller than you, but that fact just makes his heart feel even more warm. He can’t really bring himself to hug you back fully, but he grabs the back of your shirt as he tries to steady his breathing.
“Nothing seems to help,” his voice cracks, “not potions, not Pokémon Centers… Nothing.” Inhaling deeply, he closes his eyes. “Mabosstiff here is the only thing in the world I care about. The only thing… So, I promised that I’d make him better – whatever it takes.”
“And that’s why we’re here.”
“Yeah.”
“You must’ve done your research,” you hum. “I’m impressed you found this out.”
“I was desperate,” he murmurs, basking in your warmth for a beat longer, before pulling away and pulling out a book. “I – this book… I found it in my parent’s lab. It’s full of legends and stuff, things nobody’d usually believe…” Saying it aloud makes it dawn on him how kind you actually are – when he asked for your help, he’d asked without knowing if any of this had any substance or value yet you agreed. “...But I believe it.” His gaze meets yours. “As an example, Mabosstiff’s paws have gotten warmer when he first ate Herba Mystica – I’m sure of it!”
Arven’s gaze sweeps back to Mabosstiff who is still chewing his food.
“Oh! You done eating, bud?” Arven murmurs, threading his fingers through Mabosstiff’s thick fur. There’s a twinge of anxiety as Arven gazes at his beloved companion. Something – anything, please, Arven thinks, teeth worrying his bottom lip.
Slowly, Mabosstiff’s eyes open, making Arven’s breath hitch in his throat.
“H–hey, Mabosstiff! Can… can you see? Are your eyes open?” Tears clog his throat again as he sniffs. “Yes! It… It’s been so long since he was able to open his eyes! I was so worried–” he sniffs “–oh man, I–! I’m so–! I’m so glad!”
You rub gentle circles on Arven’s back as you allow him to bask in his relief while crying.
“Thank you, really,” he finally says, making you laugh.
“It’s all you, Arven, promise.” Your gaze is contemplative as you tap your fingers against your knee. “Do you mind if I pet him?”
“Ah… Well, what do you say, Mabosstiff?”
Mabosstiff looks at you and you look back with a smile.
“He says yes,” Arven supplies helpfully.
“I’m glad you told me,” you laugh. “I couldn’t tell.” Still, you gently take your hands and scratch behind Mabosstiff’s ear, which he seems to like. Watching you carefully handle his buddy makes an indescribable emotion well up in Arven – he’s really not sure what to make of it, but he wants to burn the image of you and Mabosstiff into his brain.
“Aw, look at him look at you!” Arven huffs out a laugh. “Those fiery orange little eyes… Hard to tell if they’re open or not, but I know the difference!”
“Hah, I don’t doubt it,” you respond, giving Mabosstiff one last scratch before drawing your hand away.
“The power of these herbs really is amazing!” Arven beams, feeling a lot better after crying. “I’m gonna get the rest of these herbs and bring Mabosstiff to full health.”
“Sounds like a plan,” you agree, making Arven awkwardly clear his throat. He knows that you’ve been nothing but kind to him, but he still feels a little shy around you now that things are dawning on him. He’s revealed his real reason for hunting Herba Mysticas and he’s cried in front of you, which is honestly pretty mortifying. But you take it in stride and for some reason, in his eyes, you’re glowing. Not wanting to bask in his awkwardness, he clears his throat.
“So… uh, yeah. That’s my story. Just… just three more to go.”
“Just three more to go,” you agree, before taking his hands into yours. Arven swears his heart just stopped. “Arven, I promise you that we’ll find the remaining herbs. We’re gonna bring Mabosstiff to full health, you’ll see.”
“Yeah,” he breathes, the passion in your eyes swallowing him whole.
You give his hands another squeeze before drawing away, making Arven really, really miss your warmth.
“We got this, yeah?”
“Yeah,” Arven agrees, nodding. “We do.”
---
The third time Arven falls in love with you, it’s because he realizes he finds comfort in your presence. You’ve just defeated the third Titan, and Arven can’t believe how amazing it feels. You’re both over halfway done with this quest – over half. He didn’t even think he’d be able to find one Herba Mystica, but somehow, with you, he’s found three.
“Another successful search!” he beams, looking at the glowing herb. “We’re on a roll!”
“We are!” you agree, covered in mud from head to toe. The sight makes Arven laugh. “What?”
“Ah – it’s nothin’ to worry about,” he says, but the grin on his face says otherwise. Your eyes narrow and he can’t help but think it’s so freaking cute.
“Hmph, I help a guy out and all he does is laugh at me…”
“And make you sandwiches,” he helpfully adds, making you snort.
“That too, I guess. Hm…”  you peer at him curiously, before digging through your pockets. Arven watches you curiously as you pull out a handkerchief. You stand on your toes, trying to reach his height as you carefully wipe his face. Arven stops breathing as you focus on him. “Okay, I think that’s as good as it’s gonna get,” you huff with a smile. “I can’t really do anything about your clothes, though. Sorry.”
“You–” Arven lets out a sigh, before bellowing out a laugh that makes you jump. “I really don’t know what to expect with you.”
“Thanks?”
Arven shakes his head with fondness, still feeling warmth radiate through his limbs. He digs through his bag, pulling out a fluffy Maschiff themed towel and handing it to you.
You take the toweling, blinking in confusion. “Thanks…?”
“You think I’m in a state?” he huffs, watching the expression on your face. You’re cute, Arven decides, but doesn’t put more thought into it because he’s so sure everyone finds you cute.
“Is that why you were laughing?” you ask, finally, nose scrunching up. “I’m covered in mud, aren’t I?”
“Yup,” Arven responds with a smile. “Clean yourself up and I’ll get some food going.”
“Sounds good,” you reply, backing away from the picnic table.
Arven watches you from the corner of his eye as you wipe your face and clothes, scrunching your nose in disdain. The sight makes him smile to himself as he begins to cook. Smiling wasn’t something he did too often before meeting you, but there’s just something about you that makes his lips quirk upwards.
“Sorry to keep you waiting!” he exclaims, walking to where you’re sitting and handing you a plate. “Another one of your favorite ol’ Arven sandwiches with a side of Titan Badge!”
“Thank you!” you beam, still caked in mud but somehow glowing.
“It’s nothing–” Arven snorts as your Pokémon pops out of its Poké Ball. “Figured this might happen. Don’t worry – I made extra this time for that partner of yours.”
“Thanks, Arven,” you beam, your partner chirping beside you in agreement.
“Yeah, no problem.” Arven fiddles with his Poké Ball for a bit, before gently letting Mabosstiff out. Shallow, but heavy, heaves leave Mabosstiff’s bruised body and Arven can feel his heart break, but he pushes on. Arven carefully breaks the sandwich down into smaller chunks, feeding it to Mabosstiff. “That’s it. Small bites, small bites…”
“Ah, ‘Don, slow down!”
Your voice makes him temporarily turn his attention to you, which allows him to observe your partner swallowing the sandwich whole.
“Ah, c’mon,” Arven huffs without malice. “At least bother to taste it before you swallow it right down, would you?”
You offer him a sheepish smile. “Uhm, if it’s any solace… I’m savoring every bite. It’s very good.”
Your words make Arven’s expression ease, a sense of comfort flooding through him. “That’s good, I’m glad.” For a brief moment, he stares at you eating his sandwich with glee, a sense of calm washing over him before his gaze shifts to Mabosstiff to assess Mabosstiff’s condition. “Oh. You done with your sandwich, Mabosstiff?”
A small sound escapes Mabosstiff, making both Arven and your eyes widen.
“R–ruff?! You… you heard that too, right?!” Bright teal eyes wet with tears turn to look at you. “Mabosstiff just woofed, right? Right?!”
“Right!” you agree, a wide grin on your face. “He definitely woofed!”
“See! See that?!” A relieved chuckle leaves Arven as his hands gently thread through Mabosstiff’s fur again. “I knew I wasn’t just hearing things!” With increased vigor, Arven scratches the back of Mabosstiff’s ear, causing the Pokémon to let out another small woof. “Oh, Mabosstiff! Who’s my best bud, huh? Who’s the best of boys? You are, yes, you are!” He sniffles and before he knows it, you're at his side again, rubbing circles on his back as you scratch Mabosstiff’s other ear.
Mabosstiff lets out another small woof at the attention he’s receiving, which makes Arven laugh through his tears.
“It’s been so long since I’ve heard that woof!” He can’t help but turn to you with a grin, which you reflect. “Mabosstiff is definitely getting better! Ever since I teamed up with you, good things keep happening!”
You laugh. “Then I guess I’ll have to work hard to make sure good things keep happening.”
Arven can feel his heart squeeze and he’s half-convinced that you’re trying to kill him.
“Just two more, right?” you give him one last pat on his back before you pull away your hand. He kind of misses (really misses) your warmth, but he doesn’t dwell on it as he nods.
“Just two more. I hope you’ll stick it out until we’re done.”
Your eyes crinkle at the sides as you smile. “I definitely will.”
He isn’t going to admit it anytime soon, but that smile brings him more comfort than you realize.
---
The fourth time Arven falls in love with you, it’s because of how much your encouragement spurs him to continue forward. The fourth titan is down for the count, and Arven can’t believe it.
“Yes!” Arven cheers, looking at you with a bright grin.
You smile back at him, giving him a high five, before dusting off your shoulders. “What even was that thing?” you mutter. “It looked vaguely like a donphan.”
“That was definitely not a donphan,” Arven responds, scrunching his nose at the sand in his socks. “I don’t even think it was a Pokémon.”
“But then what is it?” you murmur, humming in thought.
Arven thinks with you, his bottom lip jutting out slightly in thought. “I kinda feel like I’ve seen it before…”
You peer at him curiously, before motioning him to lean down. Arven blinks at you, confused, but obliges. “We’re always in such a state after these battles,” you huff, amused, as your hands go to remove the sand in his hair. Arven can only stand still, words stuck in his throat as you gently weave your fingers through his hair. He can feel heat radiate off of his cheeks as his eyes flicker around aimlessly, trying to find something to look at. He feels like an eternity has passed when you remove your hands, a proud look on your face. “There. I got most of the big chunks out.”
“I–” he clears his dry throat, “Thanks. Do you, uh, want me…?”
You blink at him curiously, before you laugh. “I think my hat thankfully protected my hair from the worst of it. I don’t always wear it, but I’m glad I wore it today.”
Oh Arceus, he was so dumb. Arven wanted to crawl into the sand and never emerge again.
“Could you make me a sandwich, though? Please?”
“Yeah, of course,” he says, feeling warmed at your inquiry. You’re so sweet that he doesn’t really know what to do with himself.
The cave is, like always, dark when you and Arven enter it. For some reason, Arven pays a little more attention to you, trying to make sure you don’t slip or trip over your feet.
“Oh, the herb!” you say, making Arven finally turn his head and look at the herb growing in the distance.
“It looks like it’ll taste horrible,” Arven laughs, “which means it’s gotta be good for you!”
“I don’t know about that,” you respond, smiling, “but I’m sure you’ll be able to turn this into something tasty, at least.”
“You bet.” Arven rolls up his sleeves. “No time to waste – I’ll get some food going!”
Areven’s deft hands traverse across the picnic table as he sets up the ingredients to make a sandwich. There’s a giddiness behind his movements now as he anticipates your reaction, as well as Mabosstiff's increasing health. He can feel that he’s so, so close to his goal that he can taste it – and it’s all thanks to you. His heart fills with something he can’t really seem to describe whenever he thinks of you – whenever he’s with you. Sometimes he feels like the gratitude he has towards you will overflow, making him do something terribly stupid.
“Okay, sorry for the wait! Here’s the sandwich with a nice helping of Titan Badge! Gaze upon it in awe as you eat.”
“I am in awe,” you respond, taking both things from him gratefully. As your Pokémon comes out, Arven lets Mabosstiff out of its Poké Ball too. The sight of Mabosstiff’s eyes makes Arven smile.
“Seems like someone’s got a proper appetite now!” he glances at your Pokémon, watching it gobble up its food. “And that fellow’s also slowly regaining its original strength. Still… doesn’t look like it’s anywhere close to returning to its battle form. It seems healthy enough physically… But maybe it’s got a mental block?”
You frown at him, which makes Arven’s heart drop.
“A mental block?” you murmur, gently petting your Pokémon. It nuzzles into your hand as you do so.
“I, uh, I’ve read about it before. A mental scar – like psychological trauma.” As your frown deepens, Arven wishes he could just shut up. “Maybe it had a terrifying experience in battle and, uh, doesn’t really like to now? Like it’s too scared to fight.”
Your frown remains on your face as you continue to stroke your Pokémon’s head. Arven swallows, before clearing his throat.
“I’m sure it’ll be fine,” Arven says, quickly, noticing the worry in your tone. He really didn’t want to damper your mood – that wasn’t the intent of his words. So, seeing you crestfallen at the potential trauma your Pokémon faced makes his heart, well, drop. “I’m sure both the brute – uh, that is, your buddy – and Mabosstiff will both make a full recovery eventually!”
“Yeah,” you murmur, giving him a nod. You give him a small smile as if to appease him, but it does little to soothe the guilt in Arven’s heart.
“Well, Mabosstiff?” he says, turning his attention away from you. “How’s that Herba Mystica working?”
Mabosstiff only tiredly huffs in response, his breathing slow and steady. He lets out a little whine in apology, but it’s quiet and breathy.
“Uh, no pressure!” Arven exclaims, wanting to backtrack completely. He feels like he’s messed up twice now and he’s starting to panic a little. “It’s not like it’s fair to expect every kind of Herba Mystica to have some kind of huge effect, right? And it’s not like the result has to be immediate, either.” Arven gently ruffles Mabosstiff’s fur, holding in a sigh. “Okay, rest up now, buddy.” Ruffling Mabosstiff’s fur one last time, Arven withdraws Mabosstiff back into its Poké Ball. As soon as Mabosstiff is back in its Poké Ball, Arven heaves out a sigh.
Everything had started out so great, but now, it feels like he’s made mistake after mistake. Not to mention the fact that Mabosstiff didn’t have any huge changes this time around. And he’s made you all sad because your Pokémon might be traumatized. Arven groans, ruffling his hair in aggravation. He just keeps messing up.
What if he keeps messing up? What if Mabosstiff never recovers? What if you see that your efforts were for nothing and then leave him? What if–
“Arven, we have one more left,” your voice cuts in, making Arven turn to you slowly in confusion. You meet his gaze with a smile, your Pokémon curled up by your feet, dozing off. “We'll get the last one and Mabosstiff will be as right as rain, you’ll see. We’ve got this.”
He blinks at you. “Uh– yeah.” Arven’s eyes search your face for any signs of anger or frustration, but there are none. Just kindness and determination. “Yeah.”
Your smile is so bright that it actually melts away his worries this time. You aren’t mad at him, and you aren’t disappointed, either. He can see that now.
Arven smiles. He’s not sure why, but your words bring him a lot of comfort. Since you said it’ll work out, he really believes that it will. He believes you because you seem to believe in him.
It makes his heart feel warm.
---
The fifth time Arven falls in love, it’s because he realizes that his happiness is multiplied beyond words when you’re with him.
“It’s pretty, isn’t it?” you ask, eyes glimmering as you look at Casseroya Lake.
“Yeah,” he responds, looking at how your smile widens at the sight of the blue lake before you.
“So the last Titan Pokémon – the False Dragon – is here, right?” you ask, tilting your head back to look at him. “It’s kinda bizarre to think about, you know. It’s so peaceful here.”
“Yeah, and not a single person’s caught of glimpse of it,” Arven mutters, eyes drifting across the quiet lake water. “It must be some kinda truly terrifying beast… But how are we supposed to search for a thing when we don’t even know what it looks like?”
“Surely it’ll do the kind thing and yell something like, ‘Grah! I’m the Titan!’” you joke, curling your fingers to look like claws, making Arven huff out a laugh.
“If only, right?” Arven’s thoughts are momentarily shaken when you start sprinting away from him. “Wha– hey! Where’re you going?!”
“I saw it!” is the last thing he hears before you surf away on your Pokémon.
Arven can only stand there, shell-shocked, before he runs after you, sending out his Cloyster.
When he catches up to you, he sees you confronting a huge Pokémon, a Poké Ball readied in your grasp. “Did you find the Titan?!” Arven asks, looking at the Dondozo. “So that’s it?! Sure is one big… uh… dragon?” His eyebrows furrow, expressing his confusion. “Wait, is that even a dragon? Or is it a fish?!”
“Well, it’s called the False Dragon Titan for a reason, right? So…” your eyebrows also furrow in confusion. “...If we beat it, I’m sure our questions will be answered.”
“That’s true– whoa!” Arven’s eyes widen. “Th–the little sushi guy got eaten up! Yeesh! Didn’t expect to see the food chain in action today!”
“And now we gotta step it up so we don’t end up a part of the food chain!” you respond, calling out your Pokémon.
“Right!” Arven agrees, sending out his Greedent.
“W–We did it!” Arven cheers once Dondozo goes down. “We–”
“Not yet!” you respond as Tatsugiri jumps out of Dondozo’s mouth and costumes some Herba Mystica. “Let’s go, Arven!”
“Uh…! Right!”
Somehow, he always finds himself following your pace.
“Phew… Nice job!” Arven pats you on the back once the Tatsugiri also goes down. “Maybe the Titan was both those Pokémon together? Like some kinda combo meal.”
You laugh brightly at Arven’s words, making his heart warm. “Well, we're kinda a combo meal too, then, huh? A better one, of course.”
Arven ignores how hot his face feels, chalking it up to the battle you two just finished. “Okay! I’m pretty sure that Tatsugiri came out of there. Let’s go?”
You nod, following Arven as he enters the dark cave. Instinctively, you grab onto Arven’s vest, making his heart warm.
“That must be it!” Arven exclaims once he sees the red herb. You both run up to it, happy that your search is successful. “Let’s see what the book has to say… So it seems that the Spicy Herba Mystica is supposed to boost your metabolism! It gives your circulation a boost and helps flush out all those toxins!”
“Wow, it sounds intense!” you laugh, before patting Arven’s arm. “Sounds like something that’ll definitely pep someone up.”
“Yeah,” Arven says. If he were alone, he’s sure that he’d be more fearful than hopeful, scared that all his efforts were for nothing, but you’re here and that’s enough to reassure him. Inhaling deeply, he picks the herb up, giving you the brightest grin he can muster. “Just wait right there – I’ll whip something up real quick.”
“Waiting!” you reply, brightly.
Arven begins his cooking again, eyes intensified on the task in front of him. Before he can get too much further, however, you call for him. He turns around, looking at you quizzically as you approach him.
“Your hair’s gotten longer since we’ve started collecting Herba Mystica.”
Arven pauses, contemplative. He has noticed that his hair has been getting in the way more recently, but he was too busy to really think about it.
“Can I tie your hair back?”
“Huh?” Arven swears his heart stops, his cheeks heating up. He swears you’re gonna kill him one day.
“Since your hands are busy,” you supplement, pulling out a cute hair tie with a Skwovet on it. “...Well, actually, it’s because I saw this and thought of you.”
You thought of him? You bought something because you thought of him? Arceus – he’s not sure when someone last bought him something – or even thought to, really.
“Arven?” you call.
“Yeah,” he responds, snapping out of his thoughts. “Ah, yeah.” He blinks rapidly, feeling his eyes grow wet with tears. It’s the onions, he tries to convince himself, but he’s not really sure if he can lie about it this time. He turns his back to you, barely choking out, “Go for it.” There’s a wobble in his voice that he hopes you didn’t hear.
Gingerly, at his permission, you take his hair into your grasp, threading your fingers through it. Arven busies himself with cooking, unsure of what to do with himself. The gentle movement of your fingers makes his heart beat erratically, but it somehow soothes him, too. He’s really not sure what to do.
“There,” you say, finally, patting his back as your hands draw away from his hair.
He kind of misses your warmth, but he’s not going to admit that outloud. Instead, he mumbles a quiet thank you that he’s not sure you heard.
“No problem,” you hum, peering over his side to watch him work.
He suddenly feels shy under your gaze, even though you’ve watched him cook so many times. It takes all of his brain power to solely focus on cooking because he doesn’t want to mess up and lose you.
“Wow, that looks delicious!”
“Then it’s good that I made enough for you,” he responds, making you laugh. Arceus, he really likes your laugh.
“Thanks, Arven,” you say, taking the two sandwiches he’s offering you.
I should be thanking you, Arven thinks, but nods and says that it’s not a problem. He watches as you give your partner its sandwich, bright grin on your face as your partner gobbles it food in a flash. Arven watches as you eat yours, delight racing across your face as you savor each bite. Just seeing your reaction makes Arven think that he wouldn’t mind cooking for you every day.
“It’s delicious!” you say, making him puff his chest out in pride.
“Of course it is!” he exclaims, feeling your words simmer in his heart and give him courage. He inhales, pulling our Mabosstiff’s Poké Ball. “I guess it’s your turn, now…” he murmurs, releasing Mabosstiff. “Come on, bud. Eat up. It’s gonna make you all better, I promise,” Arven says, breaking up the sandwich and offering it to his partner. He waits for Mabosstiff to eat patiently. “We’re gonna play with your favorite ball as much as you want, y’know? Just like we used to.”
Mabosstiff silently eats out of Arven’s hands. It makes Arven’s heart throb.
“Please… get better. That’s all I want, really…” Arven’s voice is so quiet that he’s not sure if he’s said or thought his words. Still, he waits in anticipation as Mabosstiff finishes the last bite of his sandwich.
Arven waits.
And waits.
And waits.
“...Mabosstiff,” Arven finally says, voice cracking. He gently pats Mabosstiff’s fur, feeling his eyes grow wet with tears. “You did your best, bud…” With a sharp inhale, Arven stands, turning his back to you. He’s not sure what to do. You worked so hard for him. Mabosstiff worked so hard for him. And yet… it didn’t work. It didn’t work, of course it didn’t. But what else can he do now? Arven’s not sure. There’s a myriad of thoughts bustling in his head, becoming a murky black as he contemplates what to do next. He knows he has to keep trying, but–
Bark!
Arven’s eyes widen as he quickly whips around, teal eyes landing on Mabosstiff struggling to its feet. Though a little slow, Mabosstiff limps to the Poké Ball that rolled off the table, picking it up in its mouth and walking to Arven. The relief, the gratitude, the hope – all of it makes Arven fall to his knees as he clambers towards Mabosstiff to meet halfway. Mabosstiff lets out another energetic bark that makes Arven want to cry. “Bud, I know! Me, too!” he exclaims, hugging Mabosstiff close. He feels the soft warmth of Mabosstiff’s fur, the gentle beat of Mabosstiff’s heart, and Arven, for the first time in forever, knows that Mabosstiff will be just fine.
And Arven can’t be more grateful to you – you, who decided to help him, a stranger. You, who decided to help him despite there being no evidence of these Herba Mysticas existing. You, who has supported him through this entire journey–
“Thank you,” he finally says, looking at you. He knows his eyes are red, he knows he probably looks like a mess, but he really can’t bring himself to care – not when Mabosstiff’s better. Not when you’ve helped him so much.
“Don’t mention it, really,” you say, eyes so kind that he wishes he could hold your gaze forever. “I’m so glad Mabosstiff’s better.”
“Yeah,” he responds, feeling elated that he can share this moment with you. He continues to hug Mabosstiff close, whose tail has been wagging rapidly. The pulse thrumming through Mabosstiff’s body makes another shot of happiness move through Arven’s veins. “Yeah.”
Arven wonders if it’s all right to be this happy, but he decides that it’s okay to bask in it for now.
After all, what else can he feel when both Mabosstiff and you were by his side?
---
The moment Arven realizes he’s in love with you, it’s because he realizes that it’s because he can’t imagine life without you.
His mood had considerably soured when his parent had called you, especially since his parent wanted something from you. Bitterness rose to Arven’s throat, leaking into his words as his parent requested your help. He’d honestly rather you never interact with the professor that abandoned him. Still, you agree to help the professor and though Arven doesn’t want to be treated like an errand boy, he knows he owes you one.
Well, he owes you a lot, actually, which is why he helped you through the professor’s crazy request. He wants to be a pillar of support to you, like you were to him. So, he stood by you as you went to Area Zero.
But now that everything is solved, technically, he wonders if he should’ve gone with you at all.
Finding out that his parent had died years ago – he’s not sure what he’s supposed to feel. Sad? Angry? Frustrated? Scared?
Arven inhales, looking at the starry expanse above him. Somehow, despite the cloudiness in his heart, the stars shine bright as always. Somehow, despite the heaviness in his heart, he ends up drawing your visage in the constellations. You, who shines brighter than the stars, slumbering inside the tent next to Nemona and Penny. You, who braved the dangers of Area Zero. You. He wishes he can see you.
“Arven?” you call, and Arven wonders how he’s able to wish your presence into existence.
“Did I wake you?” he asks, hearing the yawn in your voice.
“No, I just…” you pause, “...I just couldn’t sleep.” Slowly, you make your way over to him. “Can I sit with you?”
“‘Course,” he replies, heart leaping in his throat when you sit closer to him than he expected. His emotions begin to jumble further into some odd emotion stew as you two sit in silence. The stars. The professor. Mabosstiff. You. Everything.
“Are you okay?” you ask, finally breaking the silence.
Arven doesn't know the answer to that. “Are you?”
You’re silent, before you breathe in deeply. “I don’t know.”
“Yeah.” Arven looks at you – you, who’s always been so brave and strong, and he sees. He sees the eyebags on your face. He sees the way your shoulders slump. He sees and he understands.
“...Thanks, Arven.”
“What?” The gratitude you express takes him by surprise, which you see when you turn your attention to him and meet his eyes.
“For coming with me. And helping me get Penny and Nemona on board. And… well, helping me adjust to Paldea. Traveling with you helped a lot, you know.” You inhale deeply, before your head seems to naturally rest on Arven’s shoulder, making him freeze. “I just… I don’t think I could’ve been down there by myself. So, yeah. Thank you.”
Arven’s not sure what to say. He’s still processing everything and if anything, he really should be thanking you. You, who helped him heal Mabosstiff. You, who let him vent about his parent. You, who reassured him the entire time in Area Zero. You, who’s still here, by his side, thanking him. You.
“I think I’m in love with you.” It dawns on Arven that he’s a mess of emotions and probably shouldn’t be talking. In fact, he probably should shut up now since you’ve removed your head from his shoulder, opting to look at him with wide eyes, but he can’t. “You’ve always been there for me. You didn’t have to, but you’ve been there. And you’re still here.” He inhales. Can you see how much he wants to hold you close? “Seriously, I should be thanking you.”
“Arven…”
Arven’s words finally catch up to his brain, making his cheeks flush. “Arceus, sorry.” He deflects his gaze from you. “I’m just– I’m a mess. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize,” you murmur, softly, placing your hand on his cheek to turn his face to you. “It’s been a long journey, y’know. I’d be more surprised if you weren’t a mess. I mean, remember what the sand did to us that one time when we beat the fourth Titan? Or the mud bath we had because of the third Titan?”
Despite his embarrassment, he can’t help but snort in laughter, which makes you smile.
“Arven,” your thumb brushes against his cheek, feeling the warmth radiating off of him, “Don’t ever apologize for expressing yourself, okay? I want you to talk to me if you need to. I’ll be here – I’ll always be here for you.”
Arceus, how could he have ever avoided falling for you? Everything you’ve done for him, everything he observes, it all builds and builds and builds until he feels like his love for you is reaching beyond the skies.
“And… maybe this isn’t the best time for this, but…” you gaze flickers to the ground, bashful, “I like you too.”
Arven blinks. Once. Twice. “Oh.”
Your lips quirk upward, your gaze shy. “Do you think you’d be okay if I stayed by your side?”
“Would you be okay with that?” Arven says, grabbing your hand. “Would… Me? You’d be okay with that?”
“Why wouldn’t I be?”
Arven wonders if he’s dreaming. He’s been constantly abandoned that he never thought that someone would willingly want to be with him. But here you are – here you always are. He can feel his eyes well up, and you let out a small laugh at that.
“I feel like I keep making you cry.”
He laughs for the first time since you had gotten the call from the professor. “I don’t think I’ve cried this much since I was five.”
“Sorry, I guess I’m just a heartbreaker.”
He snorts, mirth dancing on his face, despite the unshed tears.
“But don’t worry, I’d never break your heart.”
“You’re killin’ me, here,” Arven wheezes, dropping his forehead to your shoulder.
You respond by drawing him into a hug, laughter tickling his ear. Despite him being bigger than you, somehow you make him feel safe in his arms. He wraps his arms around you, eyes closing as he holds you close. He’s not sure when it started, or when it’ll end, really, but he feels the overwhelming emotions he’s feeling slowly leave him. He can’t fully comprehend what he’s feeling, still trying to balance the grief, the shock, the relief. Maybe he won't ever know what he's feeling. But when he feels you bury your face into his chest, wet tears decorating his shirt, he thinks it’s okay that he doesn’t fully know what he’s feeling.
He doesn’t know when he’ll be fine, maybe he won’t be fine for a while. But with you in his arms, by his side, he thinks he’ll be okay.
And he’ll do everything to make sure you’ll be okay, too.

ʕっ•ᴥ•ʔっ Relationship headcanons ~ Raihan x Male Reader
Tumblr media
Word Count: 830
Plot: Random relationship headcannons with Raihan
Warnings: m!reader (no genitalia mentioned) / FDNI
Tumblr media
The media had a field day when some paparazzi photo got leaked of you two out on a date. Even though Raihan is extremely vain and social media-present - you're not, and your boyfriend does nothing but respect that. But once that picture was on every gossip page on Instagram, you two decided to lean into it. If anything, it would boost Raihan's popularity more!
You now feature in videos from time to time and you even have a special segment in his match videos of you cheering him on. Raihan loves that he gets to show you off now, every single one of his instagram posts has you in it, he has about 3 highlights of just you - it's very sweet.
The region also loves you. They originally had a lot of questions (which Raihan answered in a Q&A, of course) but now everyone sees you and Raihan as THEE Galar couple - people wanna see you just as much as they do Raihan!
The muscular gym leader loves to treat you like a Prince, he figures that if he has all this money from being a gym leader and an influencer, he should put it to good use on you.
Dates almost every night, and if you two can't be bothered to go out, then you call it a movie night and cuddle until one of you falls asleep in the other's arms.
Dates with Raihan are also all-inclusive - this man pays for everything! It started with your first couple of dates being treats on him, which you would protest and demand to split the bill. But later on, you slowly let Raihan pay for your dates more and more - the conversation usually goes something like this:
"Is today's treat on you?" Already expecting the answer to be a yes
Raihan just smugly nodding with a small smirk in the hottest way ever
"You're buying?" You ask again with a small smile forming on your face subconsciously
"Of course, love" Raihan says with his signature grin after he swallows the huge mouth of food he was munching on
You then treating him in your own way and kissing Raihan's cheek cutely, making the grown man blush.
Now that the two of you are so deep into your relationship (4 years to be exact), you don't even bother to bring a form of payment with you on dates. But you still make sure to ask Raihan if today's treat is on the house, knowing all you have in your bag is chapstick and lube.
It boosts Raihan's ego to tell you that he's paying for you, who are you to deny your boyfriend such childish pride?
The two of you pokemon battle to decide most things, or just whenever you feel like it really. And even though Raihan promises he doesn't hold back, it is strange that you beat the 8th gym leader of Galar every time the two of you scrap.
Raihan also gifted you an Eevee on your one-year anniversary saying that "just like an Eevee can turn into everything, you turned my life into everything" - you never expected the strong and popular Raihan to be such a sappy man! That Eevee is still on your team, your ace and partner pokemon [eeveelution]. And even though it's YOUR pokemon, Raihan loves it just as much.
On the topic of pokemon and battles, not only do you support your boyfriend at every single one of his matches, but you two are the Double Battle champions at the Wyndon Battle Tower - a title you two have held for a while now. You two have such great synergy during battles that you rarely have to talk to understand each other, one of you just has to tell your pokemon to attack with a certain move and the other will know what to do next!
The biggest fan of your relationship is Leon by far! He acted as your bodyguard when the paparazzi photo leaked, keeping crazy fans and more media representatives away from you - sacrificing his time to answer their silly questions about his championship in order to give you a chance to slip away.
He's also the one who forced Raihan to actually ask you out, the charismatic man actually being a wet wipe when it came to communicating his feelings to you!
And to this day, Leon is willing to 3rd wheel you and your boyfriend - and it isn't even awkward. The two of you hang out like close friends do.
You couldn't be happier than you are with Raihan
He treats you like a God and respects you and your boundaries no matter what. And he isn't too hard on the eyes either!
You ground him when his adrenaline junkie personality gets the best of him (especially during battles) and bring up his mood if he's ever feeling down for whatever reason - you're both the light of each other's lives.

Digital Stars on The Wall
|| Kieran x Reader ||
Your new dorm room in Blueberry Academy is outfitted with all sorts of futuristic technology. You still haven't wrapped fully your head around the fact that you're physically stranded in the middle of the ocean in a giant submerged dome, but hey, whatever they did to make these screens, the night sky looks almost how it'd be if you were camping out in the wild on a cool night.
||Mild Spoilers for the Indigo Disk DLC!||
Everything about Blueberry Academy feels like it came out of a separate, futuristic world. The chromatic metal that never corrodes, the blue... substance, that flows through the artificial veins in the walls and keeps the place running... Out in the middle of the ocean, it's sort of like the whole megalithic building itself is somehow... alive.
Despite that, there's no electrical interference, no static hiss at the back of your ears as you rest your head against the artificial glass sky displayed on the 'window'. How the director managed to even design the illusion of depth in these screens is beyond you, but instead of square pixels, gentle pinpricks hang above you in the false distance. The fact that they aren't plastered flat to a screen is a mini engineering marvel in itself despite the slightly visible panels if you look closely.  Hand shifting out from underneath deep blue sheets, you run your palm over smooth, slightly grooved glass. It feels like touching a bunch of small bathroom tiles, and though you logically know that there's really only a deep dark ocean stretched out for miles, you almost forget just how far you are from the home you've carved out in Paldea.  You're still somewhat scared of the scientists of this world. Somehow, you don't remember civilization being this... technologically advanced.  Cool air blows through the vents above you, tasting nothing of the slightly salty expanse of water above. With their filtration systems, this might be some of the cleanest air you've ever breathed. It's sterile, much less handmade and aged than your dorm room back in Mesagoza. But somehow, this place has started to feel so comfortable, as if it weren't ever foreign in the first place.  The sound of rustling next to you shakes you out of your thoughts, and you shift back onto your back to get a closer look at Kieran, who you almost forgot was there.
He's stiff as a board, his arms folded on top of his chest, his eyes wide and staring straight at the ceiling.  Aside from his shoes, he's still wearing his full school uniform, and his hair has only just started to slip from the tie he's put it up in. He popped in rather unexpectedly, and must not've thought you'd let him stay, so he didn't think to change into more comfortable clothes. Small frazzled black bunches drape onto the extra pillow you pulled from the closet, and the off-color purple no longer remains the dominant color.
You shift again, this time gaining his attention by curling against his side and nuzzling into the mattress a little more. He stiffens under the touch, but you can feel his sharp eyes flicker from the ceiling to you, a little more of an edge to him than before that he might not ever let go of.
You don't move, and he must think you're asleep with how you catch his eyelashes gently lulling, spine slowly losing its tension. He must be so sore from all the clenching he's been doing, if not from how he's been pushing himself up until recently. The events that transpired between you are probably still haunting him, even now. With a fresh set of new skin-deep scars, you know it has to be hard on him. Up until last week, it wasn't even certain if you were both still friends.  He sighs beside you, head sinking into his pillow. Unclasping his hands, he slowly reaches over, testing the waters. He hesitates, looking conflicted over whatever thoughts are running through his head. Whatever he was going to do, he must've decided otherwise as his hand drops just short of you.
His eyebrows furrow, pupils dilating a little when they land on yours.  "S-Sorry." He flinches away, shifting his gaze.  You don't say anything, but the following silence between you isn't entirely comfortable like before. Inhaling deeply, he stiffens back up a little, pretending to look around the room though his focus is still on you. He can't seem to pay attention to anything else right now.
He's been so consumed with thoughts of you for so long that he's a little scared that he can't be normal about it.  You can't know that.  He tries forcing his eyes shut.  He won't be getting any sleep tonight.

Hey, I've read your Drayton writings. He's such a goofball and i like how your writings portray him. I thought of a scenario that could have gone in the indigo disk involving him and/or kieran.
After the expedition, the main character gets badly injured from shielding Kieran being hit by terapagos's tera starstorm. Kieran is crushed with crippling guilt along with Drayton who is also furious at Kieran after he heard of the news. Feeling guilty because he could have protected her if he had gone on the expedition. They see the MC with big scar on their face and feel even more guilty while the MC try to comfort both of them.
(Haha, Kieran and Drayton rivalry/jealously go brrrr)
I was wondering if you could write something for this? (Romantic feelings are somewhat implied) Thx man.
This got lost to the void or requests but I'm so glad i finally got around to doing this one! It may take me ages but i will eventually do my requests. I did notice you used she in your request, i have written this in gender neutral but if you would prefer i change it feel free to let me know and i can fix it for you.
Warnings: Angst, mentions of scaring and blood, fluff, Spoilers for the indigo disk.
Healing Scar | Drayton x reader (Hurt)
Tumblr media
It was so dark, sounds blended together into one endless noise. Lights became shadows and your vision drew red. Blurring like a fogged up camera lens, the ground was non-existent below your frame, body numb and senses beyond recognition, all you could do was stare forward, the dancing lights and sounds soon echoing out into nothing but silence. The once red tinted vision, now black.
“Where are they Kieran? What did you do?” Someone was yelling, distressed maybe.
“Please calm yourself! There is no need to fight, this isn’t getting us anywhere!?” Another voice… calmer than the first but still loud enough to hear the words forming.
“I’m sorry! There was nothing that could have been done to stop this. You need to understand it wasn’t his fault!” More…? How many more people are around you?
“Nothing? From what I can tell he stood there and DID NOTHING!” That voice… clearer now, closer. Drayton. Unmistakable, definitely him.
“He was scared!  We all were, how were we supposed to know that would happen?!” Carmine, definitely her… The tinge of sarcasm in her natural tone made her voice so familiar to your ears.
“Guys stop this please! This is a hospital, you can’t yell here…” Who is this… Lacey? You were almost certain it was her, but she's so soft spoken it was hard to even tell. You could feel another person in the room… it must be Kieran, Drayton did yell his name if you remember.
“Kieran, you better star explaining what the hell happened down there or so help me i will-”
“That’s enough Drayton!” Crispin… That fire in his voice, when did he get here? Was he here the whole time? You were unsure but it was definitely him, and from the muffled bump, he must have grabbed Drayton. If only your eyes would open, or words could form, you could tell them you were okay. What was even happening?
“Drayton… perhaps you should step out for a moment, calm down a little bit.” Lacey chimed up again, voice much clearer now.
“NO!” That was loud. Even for Drayton. Seems even he realised how loud he was, if you could see the faces in the room you could guess how surprised everyone looked. “I’m sorry, I shouldn't have shouted like that, I just… I can't leave them. I want, no, need to be here when they wake up. If I leave…”
“We understand, perhaps we should all just take a moment to breathe, Kieran?” Carmine's tone had calmed significantly from what it was before, sounding almost motherly.
“Right… as much as i want to stay, i’ll leave for now.” Kieran’s voice was shaken, anger perhaps? Guilt? It was unclear.
The sound of shuffling footsteps soon filled your ears, multiple people were leaving. A clicking sound soon cut the footsteps off when a door closed. A chair scraping sound pierced your ears. It was loud and harsh, But not as loud as Drayton’s words. “I should have been there… Why did I say no… I’m such a dumbass, if i’d just gone with you i could have… You wanted me to go so badly, to see Area zero. The sparkle in your eye, I should have just gone. I shouldn’t have left you alone…”
“shush…”
“What?” Drayton perked up, your sudden word cut through his like a knife. Whilst your eyes were closed, the sudden shadow passing through your eyelids confirmed he was now leaning over you from your left. Though his presence was known to you, words were not. That single word was all you could muster - Your eyes on the other hand finally decided to be of use to you and open. Though agonisingly slowly. “Oh thank god… You’re alive, actually alive.”
“They’re awake…?” Kieran’s voice came from the door, you could still see Drayton’s face in your view, in fact it was the first thing you saw. His eyes, scanning your features, nothing but gratitude and admiration in them, hair hanging on his face, messy and unkempt. Tears began to fill so he refused to stain your face with them. At least that was how he looked before Kieran entered the room again. Head snapping so fast he could have gotten whiplash. “I left my jacket here, are they actually awake?”
“Yes, now get out.” Drayton snapped, backing away from your vision allowing your eyes to adjust to the lights around you.
“Can I see them?” Kieran responded quickly, as if trying to cut Drayton off. “Just for a second?”
Before Drayton could even open his mouth, with the little strength you had gained back, you grabbed the cuff of his sleeve which caused his head to snap back again. He really needs to stop doing that. “Hey… Let me help you sit up.”
He had seen the nurse adjust your bed earlier that day so you were almost laying down, so he did the same thing just sitting you up slowly instead as his arm rested on your stomach as support so you would fall in the new upright position. You could see Kieran now, he looked awful. Not physically, he didn’t have a scratch on him. Emotionally, he was defeated, there was nothing in his eyes but guilt and hate. Poor kid couldn’t even look at you, his eyes were fixed on the wall next to him, occasionally looking at Drayton who was practically staring holes straight through Kieran’s body. Turning back to Drayton, you attempt to convey to him that you want Kieran to stay, darting your eyes between him and Kieran. He got the message.
“Kieran! They want to see you… But you really don’t need to come over, standing there, far away is fine.” Swatting him in the arm, you send your dragon boy a glare which causes him to recoil his comment and blush embarrassed. “Just kidding.”
Passing Kieran a small smile, you lift your free hand up, as Drayton grabs your other, sitting back down in the chair he had practically lept from earlier. His thumb runs gently over the back of your hand, as his attention is drawn back to the timid boy standing opposite him, now at the railing of your bed. Kieran didn't take your hand instead he just stared at your face. “I’m sorry…”
Confusion returned to you, sorry for what? He was okay, that's all that mattered to you, he wasn’t hurt from what you could see, no scratches or bruises. Bit of dirt he hadn’t cleaned and some bits of crystal dust. No wounds.
“I’m so sorry…” Kieran muttered eyes tracing your face as tears threatened to fall. He hated how vulnerable he was in this moment, he wanted to be strong but the guilt that flooded his body was too strong, a tidal wave.
Drayton used his Rotom phone to show you what Kieran was looking at. It was bad, a large scar ran from your right ear, across your cheek and nose, then ending just under your left eye. Another on your forehead doing the same thing. Only thinner but deeper than the cheek scar. Clean tho, no residual damage aside from the giant scar and a few cuts around your features. So that was why your vision turned red. Kieran couldn’t bear to see the surprise on your face, at well… seeing your face.
“Say sorry as much as you want, nothing… is gonna change what happened down there. Nothing…” Seems Drayton’s own guilt came crashing back again. The both of them were ashamed for different reasons.
Drayton for not being there with you, for turning you down and not being there to protect you. He loved you so much, more than words could describe and yet here you were. Kieran for the opposite, he went with you because he wanted to know more, to be better, stronger. To find the secret of area zero But when push came to shove, he stood there. Feet firm on the ground, unmoving as attack after attack came towards his little group. Only when your own body dove into his in a tackle, to knock him out of the way from whatever else came at you, and your blood stained his face did he finally move.
“You think I don't know that?” Kieran snapped back, fists clenched against the railing of your bed, head hung low. “Stop rubbing it in my face Drayton!”
You felt like a kid between these two, the bickering back and forth between them sounded like siblings fighting over something trivial. So you made an attempt to comfort them. Drayton was easy, all you had to do was gently squeeze his hand and send him a warm but meaningful smile and he was completely calm again. Placing a gentle kiss to the back of your hand as he gently stroked your hair.
Kieran was about to leave, turning his back to the scene in front of him only for your free hand to grab his wrist forcing him to stay, the look you gave him was subtle, but it spoke louder than any words you could say. The honesty in them, forgiveness. You didn’t blame him for any of this and you needed him to know that. If yanking him into a hug was how to do that then so be it. With an aggressive tug you pulled him into you, his head landing on your shoulder as your arm latched onto his back, handing rubbing his side reassuringly. He finally cried, hiding his face in your shoulder, his arms tightening on you. Drayton didn't say anything, instead mimicking your action to  Kieran, no snarky comment or blame-full actuation.

Dating The BB League Elite Four + Kieran 💕
Tumblr media
Tags: GN! Reader, Fluff, Hurt/Comfort, Teal Mask & Indigo Disk Spoilers!
A/N: After finally getting dragged into the Pokémon rabbit hole, I honestly couldn't resist in doing one of these for my babies! Scarlet/Violet is my very first Pokémon experience, so hopefully I did these characters justice ^^
Feel free to follow my main @taruchinator & leave a request for future HCs!
Tumblr media
Crispin 🔥
He's such a dork and incredibly quirky but don't you worry, he'll definitely be the one to ask you out first, no matter how many attempts it takes. Not like you'd say no to begin with.
As a partner, he's the kind of guy who would always try to cheer you up and have you in a happy mood, because when you're happy, he's happy! Anything from compliments, to jokes, to just giving you lots of affection.
Which brings us to the fact that he's huge on PDA. And the funny thing is he doesn't even realize he's doing it—he'll lean on you when you're showing him something in your Rotom Phone, rubbing circles on your palm when you're talking about your day, placing his chin on your shoulder while talking to the other club members—this man is all over you.
During your stay at Blueberry Academy, don't you dare spend your precious money on the cafeteria, he's got you covered. He'll ask you and learn about your tastes, creating new recipes and concoctions just for you, hoping to surprise you with something better and nutritious every day!
If you had a long day of training and doing BBQs, Crispin always comes by and makes sure you had a meal. And you better not be lying to him.
“Man, you've been out all day! Did you even have lunch?”
“.... I had a granola bar.”
“HOW ARE YOU STILL STANDING?”
It's safe to say that Koraidon/Miraidon adores him, and even makes you question whether it's you or your Pokémon who's dating him.
After you started going out, Crispin now makes sure to carry sandwiches with him at all times. Mostly for your oversized lizard boy, but also for you in case you need a quick snack to recharge. The legendary Pokémon is quick to thank him with licks and constant slobbering which always leaves the red-head a mess, but he tries to not let it bother him for your sake.
Whenever you guys aren't training, you'll be in your dorm rooms cooking and having laughs with your Pokémon over how clumsy they can be in the kitchen.
Overall, a sweet and supportive goofball who'll make sure you're always smiling and never have an empty stomach!
Amarys 👓
Obviously Amarys isn't the best at conveying her emotions. It doesn't mean she doesn't care, she just has a hard time figuring them out sometimes! Which is why it's incredibly strange to her when she starts having these weird sensations whenever she's around you.
She feels happier, her stomach gets all jumbled when you compliment her, and her minds always finds a way to drift back to you no matter what she's doing.
She ends up asking Carmine about it, who immediately gets all giddy and explains to her that she might have a crush. Amarys is surprised, but not against the idea. It makes sense in retrospect—cue bestie Carmine giving her pointers and ideas to try and confess to you.
Unfortunately it's all a bit too convoluted or cheesy for the Steel-Type user's liking, so she ends up doing it her own way.
One day after club activities are over, she asks if you can stay a bit longer to talk. “After much deliberation, it would seem that I have caught romantic feelings for you. I propose a casual outing so we can discuss these in further detail. Do you agree?”
It doesn't take long for you two to start going out.
Amarys shows affection through small gestures that may not seem like a lot to others, but you know they're huge steps for her. Sharing her food when you're hungry, giving you advice on how to raise your Pokémon properly, helping you study subjects you aren't that good at—the list goes on.
PDA isn't her strong suit at all. Physical affection in general isn't something she's used to, and she's forever grateful that you don't push her to do things out of her comfort zone. She tries though, and will do things like brush her hand against yours or even give you a hug whenever she's feeling bold.
To an outsider you're both an unconventional couple, but manage to make it work with trust and constant communication. Give her some time and she'll warm up to you.
Lacey 🧚‍♀️
A sweet cutie who doesn't really change her attitude towards you even after you start dating, since she's always loved having you around. The two of you also confess at the same time, which leaves you as a pair of giggling messes at the irony of it.
Is your number one cheerleader when it comes to school academics. You may not be an official Blueberry student, but that doesn't mean you should be slacking in your classes! If you don't understand the material, don't you worry, she's already prepared a slideshow presentation going over it point by point. Will also reward you with kisses if you pay attention!
Lacey isn't huge on PDA either since she thinks it's unnecessary, but when it's just the two of you, she will never let go. You have successfully replaced Granbull as her favorite pillow of choice, since whenever you two have time off and she's tired, you'll probably take a snooze under a tree in the Coastal Biome.
When you get to meet her father, she's actually a bit nervous since she's never thought of dating before finishing school, but you try and be brave and reassure her that you'll try your best to give a good impression. He thinks you're alright, but gives you the good old father talk to make sure you won't hurt his little girl.
Will find ways to dot your Legendary lizard ride with gifts and affection since she thinks he's just too darn stinking cute, but don't worry, she still thinks you're the cutest!
Since Lacey's constantly worrying about things getting done around the League Club, it's your duty as her partner to get her to relax from time to time. You'll do your best by offering to share responsibilities and reminding her that breaks are very much needed.
“Sweetie it's nighttime, you can finish in the morning. I'm tired and need cuddleeeess.”
“Just one more page and I'll be done—”
“Please Ms. Lacey! I need your cuteness to have a good night's sleep!”
“F-Fine, I'm coming! Flattering me to get what you want is just not right, ya know?”
Truly an iconic duo.
Drayton 🐉
Let's get one thing straight: this man doesn't confess—heck, he doesn't even ask you out! One day he just has his arms around you and plants a kiss on your cheek claiming that he'll follow your every command, all with a cheeky grin on his face. You're more than welcome to punch him for it and he'll still come crawling back.
Like most things in his life, Drayton takes your relationship slow and steady, not really wanting to push your boundaries (unless he wants to tease you) and having no rush to progress things. He's just a chill guy who wants to claim you before anyone else does.
Don't be mistaken though, this doesn't mean he doesn't care. You'd be surprised how much he looks out for you, almost borderline overprotective in some cases. After everything that happened with Terapagos in Area Zero, he's constantly making sure you have strong Pokémon, supplies, and good company to survive the crazy adventures you get mixed up in.
You guys' ideal date is spending time together in the dorms after school hours, kicking back and relaxing with a movie or just talking about stuff that happened during the day. He's surprisingly a very good listener.
It's from these laid back conversations that he gets ideas for random gifts to get you. Did you need a new pair of gloves cause the old ones ripped? Some are waiting in the club room. You're running low on potions? A box full of them appears on your doorstep. Want to visit your friends in Paldea but can't find the time? Turns out Drayton took over your assignments for the day so you're free to go!
You're also the only person he'll allow himself to be tutored by. Will literally not listen to anyone unless it's you. Which is why you try to make sure the material is easy for him to digest + it's not boring typical schoolwork, but something he'll actually enjoy.
“Okay! Today we're going over math! Let's have a battle in the Polar Biome so you can see how probability applies in critical hits and such.”
“Aww, my honey is catering to my needs? Aren't you the sweetest thing?”
“No kisses until we're done, Drayton.”
“Alright, aye aye boss!”
He's an idiot, but he's your idiot.
Kieran 🍎
This boy has had a crush on you ever since you first met in Kitakami, but never had the courage to say anything since he was so shy. Now however, he doesn't say anything because he feels like he doesn't have the right to.
After everything he's put you through—from accusing you of stealing Ogerpon, to fighting you in an all out battle, to straight up putting you and everyone else in danger just because he wanted a chance at getting a Legendary Pokémon—Kieran doesn't think he deserves to be your friend, let alone your partner.
Carmine is there as his wingwoman though, cheering him on and telling him how much you appreciate him and clearly return his feelings.
And so, mustering as much courage as he can, he asks if you'll trade Pokémon with him. When you agree, he brings out an Applin, which immediately leaves you blushing but also spreads a huge smile on your face. The two of you officially start dating.
Kieran does is absolute best to try and be the boyfriend you deserve, even though it's his first relationship and he has no idea what he's doing half the time. The members of the League Club are surprised at first, but ultimately support you guys all the way!
You spend time together sharing battle strategies and having your Pokémon playing to try and get along. Turns out Ogerpon and Hydrapple become fast friends by the end of a particular play date, much to your delight.
He's not good at PDA, like, at all. He's still that shy and timid kid from Kitakami underneath it all, so he struggles with initiating affection even when it's just the two of you. You're the one who has to start the hugs and kisses, leaving him like a puddle of goo under your grasp.
Nightmares still plague him occasionally, mostly revolving the journey to Area Zero and how it all could've turned out for the worst if by some chance Terapagos decided to attack someone else. Maybe even you. If you're with him when they happen, you'll hold him tight and whisper sweet nothings into his ear until he calms down, or if he calls you to make sure you're okay, you'll stay on the phone with him until he falls asleep again.
“I'm sorry... I'm so sorry...”
“It's okay Kieran. We're both okay, and that's all that matters.”
You two are the power couple that Blueberry Academy never expected, but deep down, you're just a pair of dorks who fawn over each other on a daily basis.

Pokerehab Chapter 2:
An unwelcome face
N x Reader x ?
Tw: lots and lots of swearing, volo being a delusional asshole, minor ptsd and anxiety mention
—————————————————
-Back in Ancient Hisui-
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN SHE’S BEEN GONE FOR MONTHS!”
Pokémon scatter as a voice roars through the clearing. The source being a rather upset young man in odd clothes his golden hair messily tied up with quite a bit of it falling into his face. Sitting in front of him is a middle aged woman in dark formal attire, her expression is calm despite the male in front of her.
“As I had stated Volo, she and Sneasler’s warden had decided to go back to their own time and return to their old lives months ago. The clans even came together to give them a going away party the night before they left.”, she stated once more, taking a sip of tea once she’d finished speaking. Volo however did not like this answer slamming his hands down on the table causing it to shake.
“I heard you the first time Cogita! I just can’t believe she’d just up and leave without telling me first!”
“To be fair to the hero, you did betray her up on Mount Coronet. I wouldn’t blame her for not wanting to see you after that. Let alone speak to you”
Still fuming, Volo sharply turned away from Cogita, calling on Giratina to leave for their hideout. Upon seeing the stone walls of the cavern he immediately threw a punch at the wall, breaking the skin on his knuckles in the process, blood slowly dripping from the wounds. Giratina watched its trainer’s tantrum from a distance, knowing how obsessed he’d grown towards the hero in the time after their last encounter.
“To think she’d have the gall to not only leave without telling me but to also go with THE FUCKING WARDEN AS WELL! AFTER EVERYTHING I DID FOR HER! She’d better have a good fucking excuse for just up an-” Volo was cut off as his surroundings changed and he felt himself briefly fall, landing rather uncomfortably in a bush. Wiggling himself free, Volo took a moment to get his bearings, noting Giratina to be nowhere in sight.
“Thank you for nothing you useless noodle”, he mutters under his breath as he stands and brushes off his clothes and fixes his hair, “Now where the fuck did that overgrown noodle drop me” Walking off he eventually comes across a pathway, as he was about to step out onto the path a young woman barrels past him, nearly knocking him over once more as well as nearly tripping herself up in the process. Catching herself she quickly turns while still running yelling out to him “I’M SO SORRY BUT I CAN’T STOP RIGHT NOW I NEED TO GET THESE THREE TO THE RESCUE CENTER!”, nodding her head towards three gray lumps in her arms before turning back the way she was running.
“ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?!” He yells out in frustration as he finally steps out onto the path once more, looking the way the woman had left. Growling under his breath he starts walking in that direction, following the one potential lead he had to finding the Hero. Knowing them it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if they built a so-called rescue center for the creatures they loved oh so much.
It takes him a good ten minutes to reach the crest of the hill he spots a lone building in the trees, behind it is a large fenced in field and orchard with several pokémon he did not recognize running around or napping in it, well except for one Alpha Luxray sleeping near the door surrounded by several Shinx.
“... Well this just got harder than I thought it’d be…”, he thought to himself as he shifted to hide behind a tree watching the building below.
Some time had passed, though unsure of how much, Volo eventually spots someone exit the building, though it wasn’t the Hero. The one who had exited was a young rather lanky man with wild green hair tied back, he was balancing some bowls of food in his arms as he approached the now awake Luxray and shinxes. He watched as the boy carefully dodged the shinx before reaching Luxray and started setting the bowls down, the pokemon quickly beginning to eat. The boy once done tending to the group eventually turns back to go inside, though is stopped as the Hero finally exits the building, their lucario following close behind. Volo feels his anger begin to flare again as he watches her hand the young man a bag and walk back to the luxray to sit down in the grass and start pulling food out to eat themselves.
Did… Did they seriously just replace him with this bean pole of a man?! Him the one who offered her companionship and aid when the world turned against them, the one who gave them advice on how to more effectively catch pokemon, the one who was willing to tear apart and rebuild reality for them?! Not on his watch… Volo begrudgingly pulled away from the scene into the woods to further plan how he’d win the hero back.
-With Y/n and N-
“Yea you wouldn’t believe how many times I had to go find this guy’s sister, and she’d always be in the strangest of places! One time in the highlands she’d ended up on a ledge next to one of the base camps! How nobody heard her or found her is astounding to me!” Y/N rambled as she and N ate lunch, it was a slow day at the center, they’d had a few scheduled to be released back into the wild.
“The more you speak of this place it sounds quite strange indeed. But oddly peaceful too.”, N replied while taking a bite of his food, “getting to be surrounded by pokemon out in their natural habitat sounds like a dream to me.”
“You’d think so until you have a parasect chasing you down for merely looking at it wrong. Arceus help you if you got spotted by an alpha.” Y/N says looking at her luxray sweat dropping as she remembers when she caught her as a baby alpha shinx… she will never forget all the shocks and scratches she got that day. “ But hey, you still get to live out your dream of helping pokemon and releasing them back into their natural habitat or find good homes when they’ve fully recovered!”
“It’s not quite the same but it does bring a sense of joy and fulfillment being able to help innocent pokemon find themselves again after recovery. It still boggles my mind that you’ve managed to hire so many of the ex-grunts and give them a sense of purpose here.” , N stated looking out over the field of recovering pokemon joyfully living their best lives while retaining their freedom.
“Well that's because some of them genuinely wanted to help poor unfortunate mons that were actually being neglected or abused. They just needed proper guidance to find the right way to go about it, a large portion of our rescue team that investigates abuse cases are Ex-grunts and they’ve told me that they love their jobs because they actually get to help the pokemon that need it.” Y/N pauses to eat a bit before continuing, “it just feels good giving people who deserve it a second chance. Many of them have been able to properly re-enter society thanks to the center. I’ve actually been considering expanding our efforts into other parts of the region and once we’ve established a good base, maybe expand efforts into other regions!”
“You certainly have big plans for this place, it's nice knowing there’s a good soul like yours leading this organization. It eases my worries of it turning into another team plasma. Or worse.”, N stated.
“I completely understand that, there’s way too many folks out there who’d take advantage of innocent people who are just down on their luck. This place has become both a sanctuary for the pokemon and the people who work here. It makes me smile getting to see them all enjoying their work and knowing they’re happy to be making a difference.” Y/N stated in response with a careful smile on their face. Their smile soon dropped for a moment as their body stiffened looking around at the surrounding treelines.
“Is everything alright Y/N? You seem tense all of a sudden…”, N asked, trying to spot whatever had set them into alert mode. “I thought I felt eyes on us… It's probably just a curious pokemon but I can't shake the feeling…”, Y/N replied, settling back down again. The Luxray continued to remain alert after her trainer returned to their lunch, scanning the treeline for any sign of trouble. A young trainer eventually comes barreling down the path with a trio of pidove in their arms, calling out to the duo, “HEY IS THIS THE REHAB CENTER? I’VE GOT A FEW PIDOVE THAT WERE HURT BY POACHERS!”
Standing up Y/N quickly approached the trainer, “Yes here follow me and I’ll help you get them checked in with Mike. I’m gonna need you once they’ve been handed over to the medical staff to write a report on where you found them and any details you can provide so we can alert the local officers about the poaching activity.” Y/N led the trainer inside leaving N with Luxray and the Shinx litter.
N looks to the large luxray sensing her unease, “what had you so on edge old girl… you obviously know something is out there…”, he asks not expecting a response from the normally silent and stoic beast, but is surprised when he is graced with one.
“I smell him, he is here… as is the dark one…”, her voice rings out clear in his ears. He thanks arceus for this blessing that has allowed him the chance to know what it is the Pokémon need directly from them, especially now that there seems to be a perceived threat in the area.
“Who is here? Who is the ‘dark one’?”, N replies his unease growing as he too looks at the tree line with luxray trying to spot what she’s searching for.
“Volo and Giratina. How dare he return after all he’s done to my trainer. I aught to bite him for his crimes”, Luxray growls lowly, her fur standing up.
N in an attempt to calm her down gently strokes her fur, as if to assure both her and himself of the situation. “You know they wouldn’t want that… they’re too kind to hold such grudges, even when it’s well deserved. They’ve shown as much with the chances they’ve shown to the grunts that defected after plasma was disbanded…”
Luxray slowly calmed herself, returning her attention to her litter upon hearing one yelp in response to their sibling playing too roughly. N deciding it was time to head back inside, gathers up his leftovers and walks back into the center, seeing the trainer from earlier talking on the pc to an officer and putting in their statement on the poaching activity with Y/N talking to Mike at the desk about the pidove trio.
“Once they’re done speaking to officer Jenny make sure to let them know they can visit the pidoves once they’re out of surgery, I can’t believe that poachers would do that to some poor innocent pidoves.”, Y/N says as N approaches them, giving Mike’s minchino ear rubs as they speak. “Will do boss, also we got some more updates on the development of the new Galar location, Nancy put the papers on your desk so you can look them over when you have the time.” Mike responds while typing away on his computer.
Y/N stops petting the Pokémon and turns to head back outside spotting N walking up, “oh hey! I was about to head back out, I’m sorry if I kept you waiting.”, they apologized. “No, no it’s alright, I honestly figured it was a good point to end our break and get back to preparing recovered pokemon for release back into their natural habitats.” N chuckled, assuring them he wasn’t upset while trying to hide his unease at what luxray had told him minutes prior. Y/N gives him a smile while motioning for him to follow, to which N proceeds to do, walking out to the yard where a handful of Pokémon are being loaded up into carriers marked to be released back into the wild. “Well, you have quite a few patients who are ready to be released, once they’re loaded up you and Molly can start driving the group back to their habitats and setting them loose, I know that’s your favorite part of the process so I wanted to let you know you got a big group today.”, Y/N says while watching a particularly rowdy herdier give the staff the run around refusing to be placed in the carrier, making the duo chuckle knowing the little guy is gonna be just fine once he’s back out in the world, if the staff can get him into the carrier that is. N slowly stopped when the nagging thought of what luxray had told him just minutes prior…hesitantly he looked to Y/N and says, “Luxray told me something concerning after you’d gone inside…”
Y/N turning to give N their full attention looks at him waiting for him to continue.
“She’d said she’d smelled someone in the area… and I worry about his intentions because I know you’ve told me what happened back in Hisui…”
Y/N cocks an eyebrow, “Is it Kamado? I can handle his self-righteous ass any time.”
N takes a deep breath preparing for Y/N’s reaction, “N-no… she’d said she’d smelled Volo… and Giratina…” As he’d expected, Y/N’s body stiffened at the mention of the duo. “I…see, well, if he tries anything I know we can handle him, I’ve fought him before, and beat Giratina twice. What’s one more ass whooping?” They try to say with confidence, but their voice waivers a bit. Their lucario who’d been silently following the duo senses her trainer’s stress and gently nudges her head against their hand as if to try and distract them, to which Y/N gently pets the soft fur on her head, slowly calming down at the welcome distraction.
“Do you think we should at least let the staff know? In case he tries anything when you’re gone?” N asks, the idea of Volo attacking the center making him nervous as he’d come to love the place and its staff. They truly understood him and his desire to save pokemon, Y/N going as far as to even show him a different way of doing so that teaches others about proper pokemon care and how to spot a sick or injured pokemon in the wild and what to do in such a situation. It had become his home to a degree, even Reshiram liked the place, getting to lounge in the sun all day with the other mons.
“I’ll call a team meeting, in the meantime how about you go see if any patients are ready to be let out into the yard. I can tell you’re nervous and I know seeing pokemon get to stretch their legs after a long recovery makes you happy.” Y/N responded, almost sensing their dear friend’s distress, steading themselves to head to their office and call for the crew to come to the lobby and talk. N nodding before parting to go to the stables, the route having become a familiar one over the months, passing the nursery as he’s done many times before, the achanine that normally is in there is absent, and in their place are the nursery workers checking up on the hatchlings and noting down their health. “Must have gotten up to stretch her legs, looks like we have some new eggs from the conservation program.” Turning away from the window he continues to walk.
Back with Y/N, they’re speed walking towards their office, Mike the receptionist and his minchino close behind along with their lucario. “Boss, who exactly is Volo? I mean I know you’ve mentioned him in passing briefly but I don’t think I’ve ever heard you go into detail about him…” Mike asks worried about his boss’s sudden change in attitude. It almost reminded him of some of the higher ups back when he was in team plasma… it was uncanny how they could go from cheery and friendly to serious and hyper focused in an instant.
“He’s a very dangerous man from a long time ago, I’d thought he’d disappeared and he’d keep his cruel mug far away from this place. But I guess he got bored of hiding and I want everyone ready in case he tries something. He’s a cunning jerk who will do whatever he can to trick you into thinking he’s harmless before stabbing you in the back. Do not under any circumstance trust a word he says”
“I see, I’ll head back to the doctors and let them know to lock down the back in case he tries to get in.”
“Good, thank you Mike, you’re a good man and you’ve done so much for this place since it opened. I’d say you’re due for a promotion soon if you want it.”
“Thank you ma’am maybe once this is over we can talk more about it, and honestly I’m glad you were open minded enough to give me a chance to turn my life around. Not many folks would do that for an ex-grunt.”
“I could see you genuinely loved pokemon and just wanted to do right by them. It's easy to get lost in the flowery language of a maniac. I know this all too well. But that’s a talk for later, we need to make sure everyone is prepared.”
“On it. I’ll keep watch at the desk and I won’t let him through if he tries to worm his way in” Mike turns away and sprints back down the hall to warn the doctors, his companion bouncing after him. Once he vanishes around the corner Y/N opens their office door, inside is filled with photos and other memorabilia from their time in Hisui, their uniform carefully displayed in a case alongside some empty pokeballs they’d saved, on the wall is a picture of the clan leaders, wardens, Rei, Akari, Cyllene, Laventon, and them all together. It had been a bittersweet goodbye with promises of visits now that they’d established a way to go back and forth between the times, Ingo having returned with them to reunite with his family and hopefully help his amnesia. Striding over to their desk they bend over pressing the button to the mic to announce over the speakers, “Attention staff members, we are having an emergency mandatory meeting in the lobby. Please finish up the task you are on and make your way as soon as humanly possible. Thank you.”
They hated having to pull out the serious voice, they preferred to have a friendly demeanor to make staff comfortable at work, but this was a serious matter. They could not take any chances of someone not showing up.
After a handful of minutes the entire staff is stationed in the lobby, confused murmurs can be heard among the crowd as they wait to hear what their boss has to say.
With a hefty breath Y/N begins, “Thank you all for showing up, as it stands we are on lockdown till the situation has been handled. I’ve been given word of a dangerous individual being found in the area and for everyone’s safety I am requesting that you all remain on high alert, we need to get the Pokémon inside their respective lodgings till we know the threat has passed and I request that everyone please remain at their stations until further notice.” Gasps and murmurs can be heard among the staff as they process what they’ve just been told. N looking around spots Mike and Jess both looking at one another concerned and back to Y/N.
“You are all dismissed now back to your stations. Make sure all Pokémon have been accounted for and are safely where they need to be. I will let you all know when the lockdown is done and the threat has passed.thank you for your hard work and cooperation”, Y/N finishes their announcement, watching the staff of the center disperse to tend to their new orders with haste. Jess and Mike sticking around with N and Y/N.
“You alright there boss? You look like you’re gonna be sick. Maybe you should sit down for a bit…” Mike suggests concern etched on his features as his michino bounces up his uniform to his shoulder.
“Mike is right suga’ you look like you done seen Darkrai ‘imself.” Jess pipes up her concern for Y/N mirroring Mike’s.
“I’ll be fine, this is partially my fault, this is someone who I have a rather tumultuous history with… I will deal with the threat myself. My focus right now is ensuring everyone here is safe both humans and Pokemon alike.” Y/N states, a slight quiver in their tone. They’ve fought Volo and barely scraped by when Giratina joined the fight. But now they’re unsure how they’d fare a second time… they were younger, their early 20’s, and had gotten lucky the first time, but would they be so lucky now?
“You’re spiraling Y/N”, Mike’s voice broke them out of their thoughts, his tone laced with worry and seriousness, “How about you take a break. I’m sure we can take this guy working together”
“Mike I appreciate the thought but-”, Y/N
“If I may interject?”, N joins the conversation, “I think Mike has a point. If he is causing this much distress then you should let us help. Your luxray already has told me who it was they smelled, and I remember what you’ve told me about him before… Please don’t push yourself. Let us help you.”
Y/N looks between the three who look back at them with assurance and determination. They can feel their heart swelling a bit with pride and relief to know that they’re not alone in facing Volo this time. Possessing Giratina or not, they know he’s smart enough to back down when faced with too high of odds of losing. Volo is a coward, he ran when he was defeated not wanting to face reprocussions for his actions. After a moment of thinking they give a small smile when they feel their Archanine nudge under their arm, sharing that same look of determination.
“Okay, but we need to properly prepare, I’ve fought him before but that was at least three years ago.” Y/N states, “He’s no doubt gotten stronger since then. I’ll give you all the run down of his team as I remember it. But be wary, he has Giratina on his side and while it’s not fully under its command they share a common goal so it cooperates with him, to its own albeit attitude laden degree.”
Jess pipes in with a loud whoop her Houndoom howling with her before she gives an eager grin, “Let’s get this varmin off our turf! He messed with the boss an now he’s gonna be hurtin!”
Mike nods in agreement with Jess as N walks up to Y/N and puts a comforting hand on their shoulder, “Let’s gather our teams before we start planning. The facility is on lockdown so no doubt the cops are already on their way.”
Y/N smiling at N the spark returning to their eyes as the other two start to go over their respective PC data to prepare their Pokemon for the upcoming fight, “Yea, all we need to do is stall for time. Maybe I can get a message through the gateway to Cyllene and the wardens for extra assistance. They know Volo’s crimes and have been itching to get their hands on him so he can finally face judgment for the chaos and harm he caused.”
Taking a moment to talk to Jess and Mike to discuss the plan and explain Volo’s team and his history with their boss, N and Y/N go to gather their teams and strategize for the inevitable fight.
Of course upon hearing that the man who hurt their beloved trainer has returned Zoruark and Lucario have been on high alert, Y/N’s alpha luxray ushering her litter to a safe part of the facility to hide.
“Okay so let’s go over it one last time before we confront him. I’m going to go out as bait since I’m no doubt the one he’s after. You, Mike, and Jess will be hiding nearby in case things go awry and I need assistance. Mike and Jess’s main job is to keep him away from the facility and deal with his main team while we keep him and Giratina at bay. Thank Arceus you have Reshiram on your side as that’ll help us immensely in keeping the giant shadow wyrm at bay till the cops or the wardens arrive. I’ve already sent a letter to Cyllene and the clan leaders alerting them of the issue at hand. If everything goes as planned we might finally be able to apprehend him and send him back to Hisui and rebanish the legendary back to its realm.” Y/N pours over the details checking for anything they’d missed. N nodding taking in all the information. It amazed him how quick his new friend could form such a plan under duress, but he and his Pokemon, who’d come to love their trainer’s friend, were happy to see them back to normal.
N stands up with Y/N who attached their old uniform belt to their waist, having taken a moment to pull their old galaxy team uniform from its case and going into the side room to change, attaching their Pokeballs to it. He looks stunned at the complete change in energy that came with th uniform, as if it gave Y/N a much needed confidence boost. “Let’s go see Jess and Mike and tell them the rest of the plan. That way they’re in the know and can prepare their teams accordingly.” He says reaching the door going to open it.
“Right. Hopefully starraptor reaches the settlement’s fast enough for them all to reach us in time. But be prepared to restrain him if needed, he may look scrawny but he’s surprisingly fast and sneaky. He’s caught me off guard plenty of times in the past.” Y/N warned N as they entered the hall. The walk back to the lobby was quiet, the air tense, a stark contrast to the usual warm welcoming atmosphere the center usually has. The soon reach their destination, seeing the two trainers in the lobby waiting, both possessing full teams of Pokémon ready to fight. Jess’s houndoom now having a zebstrika in its place, the dark dog not being fit to fight, while mike’s minchinno now has his old friend Liepard in its place, the large feline standing at attention next to its trainer ready for whatever orders he gives.
“Alright, we’ve got the plan finished, for the most part I’m going to try to diffuse the situation but should Volo start to get aggressive you three will be nearby to provide support should I need it. He’s delusional but I hope that after three years he’s become somewhat reasonable. But I’m not putting all my chips on that chance.” Y/N states their lucario standing close by protectively.
“Got it boss, if he makes a move on ya we’ll get him where it hurts! Nobody messes with our amazing boss!” Jess says, smacking a gloved fist into her other palm, the nineteen year old eager to fight.
“You have a lot of us second chances including myself. We owe it to you that we can live a normal life now when nobody else gave us a chance. We have your back whether that man likes it or not. You’re not alone this time!” Mike adds, his gratitude towards the trainer who’d seen the good in him and many others clear as day, his companion pipes in with a trilled cry sensing its trainer’s commitment.
“Thank you, all of you, this means more than you’ll ever know. Now, let’s get moving. He’s no doubt still nearby.” Turning to their Pokémon Y/N continues, “I already know lucario isn’t going to return but the rest of you back to your balls, the less of you out at once means the less chances of him feeling threatened and attacking.”
One by one they return to their balls, their zoruark taking a moment to nuzzle their arm for assurance before returning with the others leaving only the ever loyal lucario present. Taking a breath, Y/N steady’s themselves before nodding and waiting for N, Mike, and Jess to disappear down various halls to go out other exits. When they can no longer hear footsteps they turn to the main entrance, keeping the door locked on the inside they carefully open the doors slipping through and slide them shut behind them. The air feeling far heavier now that they’re alone once more. Beginning the trek up the path towards the direction luxray had caught the scent they begin to think to themselves. Last time they felt this way was back when they were forced to confront volo on mt coronet. They’d trusted him only for him to betray them for his own delusions of creating a new world that he believed to be perfect. They knew better, it wasn’t that simple… the fight took hours, a storm had raged around them soaking the duo to the bone. They’d barely managed to squeak in their victory, their ever loyal Lucario having been the last one standing in the fight. They couldn’t ask for a better companion, she’d been by her side through everything. Every hope and heartbreak, every day and night out in the wilderness, watching over their beloved trainer as they rested each night. They remembered an old story Laventon told them one day how it was believed in some regions that humans and Pokemon possessed two halves of one soul, and that when the halves that matched collided the trainer and Pokémon would move as one unit together. He’d joked how her and her lucario reminded him of the story wondering if it could be true… Y/N certainly believed it, it would explain the unspoken trust between the two and how in tune they were…
“Well well well and here I thought I was going to have to drag you out of that little building of yours myself”, their thoughts were halted as a voice they’d dreaded to hear rang in their ears, lucario growling lowly at the new presence.
“Volo. What are you doing here? You’re not welcome”, keeping their tone neutral and firm they try to not think on what he’d said.
“Now is that any way to greet an old friend? No hellos or how have you been’s? I’m hurt my dear chosen. But no matter, my motives are simple really”, he finally reveals himself from behind the trees, he’d returned his hair to it’s original bun but still wore those blasted robes he wore back on the mountain. Has he even washed them recently??
“Whatever your reason is, leave, you know damn well I don’t want to see you. Not after what you did in Hisui.” Y/N snapped, their patience growing thin.
“Oh but I certainly wanted to see you. After all Arceus did send you after all to stop me, meaning you’re by all means mine and I was quite miffed to hear you’d left me behind like I meant nothing to you!”, he feigns offense, dramatically placing a hand on his chest. His acting was good but Y/N knew better, they heard the venom beneath the sugary words, he hadn’t changed a bit. Only shifted his delusions from Arceus to her unfortunate soul.
“Volo again, leave, you’re not welcome here. Especially not after your betrayal on mount Coronet. I’m not as naive as I was back then.”, Y/N remains firm in her stance. Keeping her voice as steady as possible while her lucario keeps a stiff stance, ready to jump into action at the slightest hint of conflict.
“I’m not going anywhere my dear. Not without what I came here for.” He replies, his voice taking a dangerous tone at which lucario sensing his intentions jumps between her trainer and the delusional man.
In turn the other three reveal themselves with their Pokemon in tow, and Reshiram crying out from above the treetops grabbing Giratina’s attention.
“I’ll give you one last chance Volo. Leave. You won’t find this fight going the way you wish if you continue. Unlike last time, I’m not alone.”, Y/N stands straighter at the presence of her friends, confidence rising as she watches Volo look around stunned at the idea of being surrounded, clicking his tongue and gritting his teeth he growls out, “Giratina, retreat, this isn’t over yet Y/N. Not till you’re back in hisui with me where you belong.”
As he finishes his statement a gloved hand latches onto his shoulder from behind, a stern face adorned with a new cap appearing behind him and a deep voice ringing out, “Apologies but you won’t be going anywhere anytime soon. Emmet think you can help get the big one under control while I get this crazy asshole restrained.”
“I’m Emmet and I’m already on it! Come on let’s get this big worm back where they belong!” A more chipper but equally stern voice rings out, an identical face covered with a shit eating grin off to the side wearing white, who with the help of N, Jess, and Mike starts to round up the distortion god while his twin wrestles the angry blonde to the ground cuffing him behind his back.
Tension leaving their body, Y/N’s luxray releases itself to catch its trainer as they nearly collapse from the stress, “Just in time you two. I was actually worried he was going to get away but I didn’t want to start an altercation without full backup and we all know how long it takes for the cops to respond out here. Hopefully Cyllene and the others will be here to take him back soon.”
“Indeed, it’s quite lucky for you that Emmet and I happen to be headed over anyways as he wished to meet you in person and see the center once he heard of it. Wasn’t expecting to see this one again after all that occurred.”, Ingo replied hoisting a cursing Volo back to his feet as the large legendary flees the scene.
“As much as I hate to admit it, I’m not that shocked. He’s as delusional as they come. I’m just glad nobody got hurt in the end. Let’s take him to the holding room at the facility till the others get here. Then we can talk more. At least once we’re inside we can keep him under lock and key.”
“I’m Emmet and it is nice to meet you! Ingo has told me much about you and your adventures! Now may we be off to the center Miss Y/N?”, Emmet in all his excitement jogs up holding a hand out to Y/N who shakes it with a relieved smile.
“Pleasure to meet you Emmet and welcome to the Pokémon rehabilitation center. As you know, I’m Y/N, I’m the director of the facility. Let’s head inside so I can let the staff know the lockdown can be lifted and everyone can return to their stations and work.”
Nodding Ingo and Emmet follow Y/N, Emmet eagerly chatting with the lady while Jess and Mike pat N on the back for his quick thinking earlier in the day, Ingo escorting a cuffed and upset Volo in front of him.
And once more things were back to normal, the halls quickly filling once more with talking and the sounds of Pokemon being treated.

may I request yan sylveon male x gn reader? a idea I've has is that the sylveon being the reader's first pokemon, and evolved to a sylveon due to their love for the reader. Reader wonders why wherever they travel, people seem to go missing. Maybe the reader has a chance encounter with some bad guys and the sylveon finally snaps. Idk I'm just brainstorming.

You’re his.
He’s your first and only pokemon.
The one that grew up with you and fought by your side.
The one that took care of you when you were sick and the one comforted you when you cry.
And you love him too.
Why else will you only keep him as your pokemon?
So surely you will forgive him right?
After all he’s just trying to protect you.
Those trainer, those pokemon, those people…
…they’re all trying to hurt you.
He’s just trying to protect you from all the evil in the world.
So you will forgive him right?
You will still love him right?
“Sylveon, where are you? We’re leaving!” came your voice calling for him,
He washes off the blood on his body before running towards you purring happily, not even giving the body on the ground a single glance.
After all…
…You have too.

It was a normal day on your journey as you traveled through the forest with Sylveon.
Or at least as normal as it can be with people seemingly missing left and right.
There has been body found all across the region of trainer and/or pokemon that has been brutally murdered and the culprit has yet to be found.
Oddly enough the murder always seems to be near you, but the thought was fleeting as Sylveon nudged your hand distracting you as he purr against your hand.
Kneeling down you pet his fur before saying worriedly,
“Don’t run off like that again, Sylveon… they haven’t caught the culprit of these murder and I don’t want you to get hurt…”
Sylveon purred as he wrapped his ribbons around you, his eyes flashing red for a second. But when you look again, it’s still the clear blue that you have grown to love and adore.
His ears twitched as he hears your concern, his mind wandered to those he killed, and he couldn’t care less about them, after all he was just protecting you, his trainer, his love.
He tensed his body as he smells someone coming, he growl as his ribbons extended in front of your protectively as he get ready to kill anyone who hurt you.
“Sylveon, what’s wrong?” You asked alarmed by his reaction before turning towards the source of the commotion, when a group of pokemon hunters walked out weapons in hands,
“Look at what we have here? A lone trainer and their pokemon.” The leader smirked as he walked toward you, “Don’t you know it’s dangerous to walk around here by yourself with all these murder going on.
He tried to grab you, much to the anger of Sylveon as he continued, “Now why don’t you come with us and we can take care of you and your pokemon…”
“Get away from me!” You snapped as you slapped his hand away,
The leader snarled, unamused by your defiance and reached out to grab you again.
That was when Sylveon attack, lunging forward and biting down on the leader’s arm. A loud crack could be heard as Sylveon twisted his body and threw the leader into the tree, blood dripped from his mouth staining his fur red.
The leader howled in pain as he hold his broken arm, the rest of the hunters threw out their pokeball and soon the clearing was filled with variety of pokemon, ready to show you that they’re not to be trifled with.
The next few minutes was chaos as Sylveon dashed forward a attack already forming. As your only pokemon he had to be the absolute best, and this was nothing.
“Sylveon be careful!” You yelled out worriedly when a Aegislash moved to attack him,
Sylveon turned around, but it was too late to dodged. He had overestimated himself, he grit his teeth ready to tank the attack, when a warm body covered him.
His eyes widened when he heard your pained groan as you protected him from the attack.
(Y/N!)
“Are you okay?” You asked your body shaking from the pain as blood seeped through your clothing,
You glare at the rest of the enemy. Sylveon has defeated almost all of the enemy pokemon, but there’s still a few left and you can tell Sylveon is at his limit as well.
You backed into a corner as the enemies closed in, your sight blurring as you suffered from blood lost.
You motioned for Sylveon to run before collapsing and blacking out completely.
。・゚・。+☆+。・゚・。+☆+。・゚・。+☆+。・゚・。+☆+。・゚・。+☆+。・゚・。+☆+。・゚・。+☆+。・゚・。
Sylveon eyes turned red as he felt you fall unconscious. Something snapped inside him as he leaped out of your arm. He let out a roar, filled with a murderous rage.
His ribbons glowing as they stretched and preparing to attack, to hurt, to kill, as they tried to run. Attacking them all in a bloody murderous rage.
He panted as he stand amongst the corpse before walking back to you. His fur covered in blood, letting out a mournful cry as he nudged your unconscious body.
His bloodstained ribbon wrapped around you as he carefully picked you up and headed toward a cave in the distance.
Once he put you down he tried his best to heal you with his move, before carefully decorating the cave as comfortably as he could.
He was going to keep you safe, hidden, and cared for.
He wasn’t going to let you go.
He was going to going to keep you here.
Safe.
Cared for.
Forever.

You woke up your body surprisingly not in any pain as he laid next to you. His warm body pressed against you as he gently licks your face. His ribbons making sure you were comfortable as he continues to purr softly.
His eyes lock on to yours, the red in them slowly fading back to their usual color. His blue eyes soft as he rested his head against your chest, letting out a sweet content sigh.
He lay there with you, making sure you were safe and sound.
Safe from the outside world.
Safe from anyone trying to take you away from him.
Safe from anything that would harm you.
“Sylveon, where are we?” You asked sitting up, before looking over him worriedly, “Are you hurt? What happened to those people?”
He tilts his head to the side as he looks at you, his ribbons twitching gently as your fingers caress them.
He nuzzled against your hand, his body tensing a bit as he hears the question about the people. His eyes darting away before he gently push you back down not answering the questions.
You shrugged it off, trying to get up again, “Come on Sylveon, let’s leave before something else happens.”
Sylveon’s body tensed, his ribbons tightened around your waist, pulling you back onto the nest.
His eyes were filled with a possessiveness as he growls softly, his body pinning you down as he nuzzles against your neck.
He could hear it, the dangers outside.
The hunters, the wild pokemons, the dangers.
They were all out there waiting, ready to end your life.
To hurt you.
To take you away from him.
“Sylveon what are you doing?” You asked again confused and concerned as you tried to free yourself from his ribbons,
His eyes locked onto yours, the red slowly filling them again as he growled, his eyes filled with love, lust, and desperation as he kept you pinned down.
Then, without warning he ripped away your clothing, his erected dog like cock dripping precum as he positioned it at your entrance.
If he breed you will you stay?
He lowered his head as he slowly lick across your now exposed skin, his canine nipping at your body leaving behind bite mark to mark you as his.
He’s not going to let you leave. He’s going to breed you until you’re unable to move, and unable to think.
He’s going to make sure that you’re his and only his for the rest of your life.
“Sylveon, stop it! This isn’t funny!” You cried out as your body was exposed,
You never thought there will be a day where you will fear him, but as he hold you down and lick across your skin, his cock burning against your skin, you was downright terrified.
Sylveon’s ears twitched at the fears in your voice, but he doesn’t stop.
He nipped at your neck, the sharp pain a sharp contrast to the soft licks and kisses he left on your skin before. His ribbons wrap around your wrists and ankles, holding you down as he continued his advance.
He licked your nipples, sucking and nipping them until their swollen and red like a berry ripe for the taking. He growl, his hard cock pulsating, leaking precum as you moaned under him, your body shaking from his teasing advances.
His ribbons tightened as he pushes his nose against your legs, the scent driving him mad as his tongue lick along the length of your arousal.
He teased you until you’re trembling, your body flushed as you practically beg for release. He gave you one last teasing lick before pulling away denying you your climax and kissing you again.
You let out a desperate whine before biting your lip trying to stop the moan from coming out.
Your impending orgasm threatening to shatter your sanity as you bucked your hip weakly desperate for some sort of relief.
Sylveon’s eyes gleam, his ribbons pulling your legs apart and making sure you can’t get away, before settling his cockhead against your swollen entrance.
He sink his teeth into your shoulder marking you, before slamming into you in one go. His cock stretching you open and you let out a wail as he begin to fuck you raw.
Your body arched upward climaxing as he hit your g-spot, your body shaking as you clenched down tightly around his cock.
His hips slammed into you, the sound of your flesh meeting his cock and your moan filling the cave. His body trembled as he looked into your eyes, his eyes glazed over with lust.
His mind filled with nothing but the thought of breeding you, to stuff you with his pup and making sure that you can never leave him.
Your legs kick weakly under him as his body tensed, his orgasm approaching quickly. With a final thrust he bit down on your neck, not letting go as he spilled his cum inside you.
You let out a muffled whine as you felt his knot expand inside you, keeping his cum plugged up inside you, still lazily fucking you while he ride out his orgasm.
He let out a purr, nuzzling against your neck softly, licking away your tears, his eyes filled with a possessive love.
He didn’t care if you were scared or crying, he was trying to protect you from the outside world.
He was trying to keep you safe.
With all means necessary.

What if everyone in Legends Arceus were to become self aware and are completely baffled if not exasperated by the player being so gentle (yet still firm) with Volo?
"You are aware of what he's done, yes?"
"Of course I am. And it was very wrong of him. But that doesn't mean his mistakes have to define him. Volo is capable of learning and growing. And Kamado, you're a FINE one to talk about betrayal."
And the player is rather protective of Volo despite understanding completely why everyone would be cross with him.
"If you dislike him so much then you don't have to be around him! I want to spend some time alone with him anyway."
And the player gently holding his face but giving him a serious look despite the sweet tone. "You're going to be a good boy from now on, right? You won't cause any more trouble?"
👀?
Everyone knew Volo had upset you.
It was as clear as day when you cried out at his betrayal. How upset it had made you. How it had hurt you.
You genuinely wanted to see him as a friend, only for him to betray you. It clearly upset you the first time you played this 'game'.
Afterwards, you were interestingly distant with Volo in any other run of the game. But many people didn't think too hard about it. It was natural you would keep him at a distance.
Besides, many of them were too busy focusing on breaking free from the code that held them all as pseudo prisoners.
It wasn't until you were on a playthrough dedicated to getting every pokemon and every shiny, as well as completing the pokedex to its fullest extent that they were able to show you they were aware.
It wasn't much longer from that when they were able to pull you in freely.
You were naturally startled, but quickly adapted, happy to meet so many characters and pokemon dear to your heart.
(Even if you were a bit weirded out how some seemed to see you as a deity of some sort sometimes.)
Everyone wanted to meet you with your sudden arrival (even if you didn't exactly plan to be pulled into a video game).
Even Volo of course was curious, but he didn't directly approach you. He stayed almost out of sight from you in the village. Just close enough to see you and maybe hear you.
After all, why would you want to see him? After all he had done to you? Betraying you again and again, even if he wasn't in control after that first time?
You had made it painfully clear the first time how upset his betrayal had made you.
And yet...
The first time you caught him watching you, you not only approached him, but told him hello. You even politely introduced yourself, not showing an ounce of fear or disdain.
Volo was shocked, and nearly couldn't speak. It was clear he was taken off guard.
The villagers were also surprised. Didn't you hate him? Dislike him at the very least?
Perhaps you were just being polite for the first greeting, being in a new environment, or were afraid of angering him?
Volo knew that wasn't true though, you showed no fear when greeting him. Even your eyes held no terror when meeting his gaze.
Instead, your eyes met his head on, and you simply smiled at him.
That wasn't even the last time you did so either.
Any time you came across him, (or caught him watching you from a distance), you acknowledged his presence, even trying to include him half the time so he didn't feel left out.
It was... confusing, to say the least.
Perhaps you had gotten over it? Or if you were some sort of deity, you were a benevolent and forgiving one?
Of course, many people questioned your decision, and you stood firm over it.
"He hurt me, yes, but is he not trying to earn forgiveness? Shunning someone who genuinely wants to learn and grow from their past actions will only push them away. There are of course, some things that are unforgivable, however..."
You looked at Volo almost fondly.
"I like to think he can redeem himself if he works for it. He just needs a gentle push."
It's baffling, even to Volo, who questions if he is even worthy of such kindness after all he has done to you. Yet here you are, standing up for him and trying to protect him.
You simply smile to him, and grab his hands so gently in your own.
"I like to believe in the best of people, even when they have done bad things. You made a mistake, and no one was ultimately hurt. But..."
Your eyes get an almost cold gleam to them. One that has a cold shiver run down Volo's spine.
"You are going to be good, right? No more surprises, no more attempts at becoming a god?"
The hold on his hands were gentle and soft, and your voice was as sweet and gentle as ever.
But your eyes...
Your eyes held a look that wasn't a threat. They held a silent promise.
Volo nodded, his mouth becoming dry as he caught a glimpse of just what you were capable of.
"Yes. I'll... I'll behave."
The look in your eyes vanished as you reached up and cupped his face. You gave him a tender smile.
"Good."
