Iceland: Hunt For Polar Lights

More spectacular landscapes on our way trough the south of Iceland. Even some reindeers crossed our path. But still no polar lights until we reached Reykjavik. So, we decided to have a night out with some beer and live music. To our surprise, we got a notice about sightings of northern lights just outside the city. Aurora Borealis 🍂💫✨ Various indigenous cultures have rich oral traditions and myths surrounding the Northern Lights, often interpreting the phenomenon as a significant part of their cosmology.

Here are a couple of examples: Iñupiat (Alaska): In Iñupiaq folklore, the Northern Lights are often called "Aqsaqtuk" or "Aqsarniit," and they are believed to be spirits of the deceased playing a ball game with a walrus skull. The lights are considered the spirits' torches as they dance in the night sky. According to some stories, the lights also act as messengers, carrying messages between the living and the spirit world.

Sámi (Scandinavia, Finland, Russia, and Sweden): The Sámi people, indigenous to the northern regions of Scandinavia, have various interpretations of the Northern Lights. In some Sámi stories, the lights are considered the souls of the departed or representations of their ancestors. The lights are also believed to possess magical qualities and are seen as protective spirits watching over the land.

Dene (Northern Canada and Alaska): Among the Dene people, there are stories that link the Northern Lights to the spirits of the deceased. The lights are thought to be the spirits of those who have passed away, engaging in a celestial dance. The Dene see the Northern Lights as a reminder of their ancestors' continued presence and influence in their lives.

Nordlichter in Deutschland Es begann gegen 22:00 Uhr. am 10. Mai 2024 bis zum Morgengrauen am 11. Mai 2024 gegen 6:00 Uhr Wenn ich Freunde in Norwegen besuchte, sah ich die wunderschönen Nordlichter ab September. Das Nordlichter im Mai in Deutschland zu sehen sind ist ein Wunder. Northern lights in Germany It started around 10:00 p.m. on May 10, 2024 until dawn on May 11, 2024 at approximately 6:00 a.m When I visited friends in Norway, I saw the beautiful Northern Lights starting in September. To see Northern Lights in May over Germany is a miracle.

From May 10th to May 11th, 2024 I discovered strange movements in the sky that could only be seen with the GoPro or a Camera. I knew Northern Lights from Norway Tromso when I visited friends. But I hadn't seen any Northern Lights in Germany yet. It was a phenomenon and an amazing occurence
