Trigger all have really different ways of expressing and receiving affection, and I bet that would cause them a lot of problems early into a polytrigger relationship. I mean, it causes them enough problems as it is, but that shift from groupmates to something more makes that conflict that much clearer. They don't even realize that what they're seeing from the others are signs of their love.

Ryuu is easy, he loves loudly and boldly, in his physical touch and his words. But maybe he says it a little too much, and hugs a little too freely, and not just to them, so for people like Tenn and Gaku who aren't used to that sort of thing, it comes off as disingenuous at first.

Gaku loves to give people gifts, but Ryuu and Tenn don't know how to receive. They don't see it as a marker of his affection, but a flashy way of buying them off (tenn) or as something that has to be returned in like kind.

And Tenn shows he cares with his criticisms, but his sharp tongue sounds more like a scolding to people like Gaku, who's used to being constantly hounded with no hope of reward, and Ryuu, who's used to soft words and abundant praise to show affection

But they'll figure it out eventually. It's probably easiest with Ryuu -- all they have to do is visit his home with him at some point, and they can see that he acts exactly the same way with his brothers as he does with them (well, maybe not exactly). They know full well how much he loves them, so when he says and does these things for them too, he must really mean them after all

Gaku and Tenn are harder. Maybe it takes seeing Tenn turn his back on someone and not offer them any sort of advice before they realize that he only does that when he cares. If he didn't love them, he wouldn't bother saying anything at all; he pushes them because he knows they can do better, and he knows he can bring it out in them and make them the best people they can be. It's a little ironic, that it's harshness that makes his love shine, but it suits him

With Gaku it's when they realize that it's not just extravagant gifts he's giving them. It's the fresh tube of toothpaste on the counter just when they were running low. It's the fully stocked fridge, with the extra melon soda because he knows Ryuu likes it, and a strawberry donut for Tenn. It's the little bowl by the door for their keys, which isn't just Ryuu's or Tenn's, but all of theirs, that makes them realize that he's not showing off, and he's not excluding himself from his love

What made you ship it?

It includes my otp for the fandom so I think as a side effect of that I ended up having it as another tag I would check out on Ao3 when I ran out of fics to read. I will say, there's a deleted fic that I was lucky enough to save a copy of that was the first bookmark I ever made for the i7 fandom and that was a polytrig fic that blew my mind, it was so good. characterization was top notch, the smut was great too lol!

2. What are your favorite things about the ship?

Tenn teaming up with Gaku or Ryuu to appreciate their third, it's a nice look into both how it must function in their apartment once they start living together and also seeing Tenn's caring side without the tangled restraint that comes with Riku. Also Tenn being his usual prickly self while doing something for the other two is definitely the highlight of their pairing.

3. Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I prefer when ot3s are evenly split three ways in the relationship, nothing makes me nope out faster than having two out of the three only focusing on one corner with no reciprocity or closing of the loop on the far side. All three ships should get represented equally, and everyone gets their moment to be in the middle, metaphorically and literally. Specifically for them, I don't see Tenn as their glue, but rather he enjoys watching and supporting the other two as well. Just as in canon, he's the straight man to their silliness, he's the one pulling them back down to earth while they float away on ideals and optimism lol!

I think Trigger has matching necklaces that Gaku got them because he liked Re:Vale’s matching rings and decided he wanted Trigger to have matching jewelry too not realizing that Re:Vale’s rings were wedding rings.

i DON'T ship polytrigger personally they just don't compel me (and an 18-23 age gap is 2 adults technically so whatever but it's pretty distant) but every so often there will be a Thing. Like. A line in a song or a line of dialogue or a scene in a MV. and i'll just be like okay

Tenn who sleeps more soundly when someone's head is resting on his chest or his stomach. He's not big enough that anyone thinks to do it -- he's not broad and muscular like Ryuu, where everyone expects him to be the bottom of the cuddle pile and lend his pillowy bosom to his partner. Tenn's small and slight and boney, and looks rather like he'd be crushed if Ryuu or Gaku laid their heads on his stomach. But once they figure out just how much it soothes him, that's how they lay. Tenn on his back in the middle, Gaku's head on his shoulder and Ryuu's on his stomach, all pressed tightly together
