so based off the poll results, majority wanted me to write these one shots for a Marauders' Band AU. So here's the first one:

Remus Lupin does the BuzzFeed Puppy Interview:

Remus shoots the camera his shy smile that makes people’s stomach do the thing. “Hi there, I’m Remus Lupin and I’m here with Buzzfeed to answer some questions with puppies.”  

He’s wearing an all-black outfit: a black knit sweater that looks warm, paired with black trousers and sturdy black boots. His right wrist is adorned with bracelets; a plain black one with the word ‘moony’ next to a full moon, a beaded one with a star and moon on the centre and a band that reads ‘The Marauders’ with a wolf, dog, deer and rat. His left wrist is free, but he has multiple rings on those fingers.  

“I’m really excited and also a bit nervous, because I love dogs. I really do. But I want them to love me too, so,” he ends with a chuckle.

“I don’t know if they’re going to like me.”

“I don’t know if we’ll connect.”

“And I doubt I’m going to be able to answer your questions in any form, when I’m-Oh my god!” He’s cut off as a golden retriever runs towards him.

“Hi,” he says, letting the puppy smell his hands.

Remus coughs out a breathy laugh as the golden retriever jumps into his lap. Just then, a pair of corgis start nibbling on his shoelaces, to which Remus laughs and mutters, “You two are trouble, aren’t you?” They reminded him of James and Sirius.

Remus laughs for ten seconds as a Jack Russel walks slowly towards him and wastes no time on laying his head on Remus’ thigh and starts to fall asleep.

 “Hi loves, I’m Remus” he says, as one of the corgis joins the golden retriever on his lap.

Question 1- What’s your favourite thing about meeting fans?

“It’s just this…really nice feeling I get. Like I feel giddy, whenever a kid waves at me or some fans who’ve said that our songs helped them in tough times. It just gives this sort of nice feeling,”

“No..no,” he says as a corgi pulls on his sleeves, “this is one of my favourites, you can-okay then.” He finishes in defeat, as it manages to pull out a string.

Question 2- What’s the hardest part of being in a band?

“No privacy,” says Remus, he himself startled by how fast he answered. “I mean like...” he says, rubbing the Jack Russel’s belly, “When you live with James and Sirius, who have co-dependency issues, and Peter, whose love language is physical touch, you’ve got to throw personal space out the window.”

Question 3-Describe the way you see your bandmates.

Remus is quiet for a while, as if he’s thinking, while letting the puppies climb all over him.

“There’s James, who I connect with like a brother. He is a ray of fucking sunshine and if I am insecure or sad, he makes me listen to all the 764 reasons for why he loves me. And then there’s Peter, who is like the calmest person I know. He is the friend you need when you just want someone to listen to you. He is always there for you, even if he never says it, you’ll still know that he’s there for you.”

He smiles as the golden retriever settles on his shoulder and one of the corgis has decided to take a nap on top of Remus.

Remus starts with a smile, “And well there’s Sirius, who is one of the most beautiful souls out there. He’s one of the first people that made feel valued and always looked at my scars like they were some kind of treasure. He’s also made me realize a lot of things about myself and uh…yah, our bond is a bit more…special than the rest, and we’ve come a long way, and I wouldn’t trade it for anything else.”

“I am scared to move,” he whispers, as the Jack Russel snores loudly on top of his thighs, golden retriever asleep on his shoulder, a corgi on his belly and the other held within his arms.

Bonus puppy stuff:

The corgis start fighting with each other. “Am I supposed this stop this or something?” Remus asks, looking lost. Just then one of the corgi trips and falls on the sleeping Jack Russel. It opens its eyes, confused. Remus bursts out laughing, which ends up making his face as red as a tomato (and that's a win for all the video editors out there).

PS: Its my first draft btw. i guess ive done good. lmk if its bad, i need honest feedbacks. also gonna put this on ao3, which is my first time ever. and this is set in pre-wolfstar period or they are established but hiding it from public (choose whichever you want)

Labour

Chapter 1: Labor pains

All day, every day, therapist, mother, maid 

Nymph then a virgin, nurse then a servant 

Just an appendage, live to attend him

So that he never lifts a finger

Year circa 1971 

Don’t think about it, don’t think about it-

A high pitched scream echoes throughout the room. Don’t think- once again cut off by more screaming

oh I wish this agony would end, let it be done

She feels their uninterested stares and cold panic. I cannot die. Or so curse them all if I do.

Sweat rolls down her face like tears from a waterfall.

It's been 7 hours.

Nothing but slight crowning and no motivation to push anymore 

The air shifts

She grunts in anger to try once more 

Poor girl tells her gently push she almost doesn’t hear it with the blood flow pumping through her ears like drums beating

His cold hand takes hold of mine in no friendly manner

oh so he gets to be annoyed, perfect

“Keep pushing”, he tells me without sympathy.

I want to scoff and if I had enough air in my lungs I would 

I grit my teeth and try but it does nothing as my hips are already numb, my legs burning, my belly aching, my heart restless.

someone quick and hit me with a curse now.

“You’re not trying hard enough, I said keep pushing”, he whispers in my ear as he lets go of my hand.

I’m almost grateful for his cold hands as he reaches for the back of neck to push me to sit up 

“Now push,” he commands. 

I let out a deafening cry and gave it my all.

Once I hear the baby wail, I sigh in relief it's all over.

He's already let go and walks towards the babe, I see him look at it and nod to the sheepish girl. He takes his leave but not without saying, “Black make sure she gets her tea and come down as soon as she’s dressed.” 

As he leaves, I finally take a look at my baby. Not yet a name as the ceremony will take place downstairs, per his instructions earlier. Little Cissa brings the babe to me with a kind smile on her face. I send her a thank you as passes the baby into my arms, soon calming from his cries. 

I make quick work to coo him to a gentle sleep, luck is on my side with this one. The baby softly falls asleep without resistance. He’ll appreciate that, I think to myself. He hates the cries. 

I hand the baby back to Narcissa to finish cleaning up. Her mother Druella, my friend over the years, comes to my side to congratulate me and kisses the side of my head. 

“Up we go, they hate to wait, those men.” She smirks at me. I give her a half smile and get out of the labor bed. Blood once again staining the white sheets, what's the point in burning them anymore I wonder. 

Druella helps me slip on a dress and my shoes, she tries to do what she can with the slick greasy hair so she settles for a braid down my back that is acceptable. I don’t care much anymore these days. The sixth child, he should be happy that my womb hasn’t burst yet. 

“Lets go my dear,” She says to me calmly, holding my arm gently. “Cissa! Time to go down.” She calls for her youngest. Druella has been extra careful to keep Narcissa close to her since Andromeda had left the family. 

We make our way downstairs, I do my best to keep my head held high. As we make the last stair, I turn to Narcissa to hand me the child. So the ceremony begins. 

I walk to the ballroom where the crowd of friends, if you could call them that have gathered. The doors open and I enter and try to bear my pain by biting my cheeks. I look down to babe, and again sleeping peacefully in my arms. How I wish it were to last. I take my stance next to Tom at the end of the room in front of a bowl.

“Thank you all for gathering here today as I introduce my new son!” Tom speaks loudly over the small crowd. “Per tradition to the house of salazar, I will give my son the mark of my house.” 

When Tom first introduced the mark to me, I didn't really understand it. Granted he never gave me the mark. Always said, “there is another way to insure your faith”. I wonder what he meant by having his heirs. 

He grabs the babe arm and with his wand crest the mark into his skin. The babe starts to get irritated and I try to soothe as best I can while Tom finishes. Once he’s done, I cuddle the babe close to my chest and rock him. 

“Now at last, I welcome you, Ominis Ivan Riddle!” He shouts across the ballroom, as claps start to erupt. He looks behind him and snaps his fingers. A chair is quickly brought for me to sit at. The next part has to be the most exhausting part of it all. Everyone must come up and welcome the baby with a blessing water, hence the water fountain. This has to be the most cultish part of it, but I’ve learned now to never question Tom's motives for doing what he does. 

Sixth babe. The first comers are of course his siblings, or rather brothers, no girl has been sired. 

Salazar Marvolo Riddle, my oldest at 16, makes his way over with a gentle smile on his face. He dips his finger into the water and swipes the baby's head. “Much strength and stronger faith.” He says and then leans over to kiss my head, “Well done, mother.” I smile back at him. 

Next is what could Sals twin honestly born a year apart. Tom III Corvus Riddle, 15 and aspiring to be too much like his brother. He follows suit as his brother, but not without adding a cheeky comment about, “not more than me of course.” and proceeds to bless him, and gives me a gentle caress against my forehead. 

One thing I did right was raising my children to still know love. Unlike someone I know. 

Next is my young soldier, Oliver Morfin Riddle. At just eleven, has a dignified air around him, most likely finding his ego boosted as the room stands to appraise the boys. He boastly follows suit and somehow manages to have to collect more than enough water on his tiny fingers, it ends up sliding all over the babes head. I smile at him knowingly and he looks at me with slight panic before straightening his back. “May he grow strong and be faithful in faith.” Oh boy, I think I may need to help him more with his delivery nonetheless I tell him well done. He quickly replies without much thought, “ No you well done mother.” and walks away but not before taking a step quickly to hug me. I almost want to laugh. 

Lastly, my gentle angel, Augustus Reuben Riddle, at the ripe age of seven. He nervously makes his way to me. “Hi, August, want to meet your little brother?” I ask him gently. He looks at the baby and then at me and nods silently. I smile down at the boy to reassure him. “Okay you remember what we practiced, dip your finger in the water and then draw a line on the baby’s head here,” I say as I point to Omi's head. August nods and turns to the bowl and moves to dip his tiny finger as he gets on his tippy toes. He comes back and draws a careful line gently across the baby’s head. “Hi baby, I'm your brother. Be strong and have faith.” He repeats the words we’ve practiced the past few days perfectly. I whisper good job and he smiles brightly at me. “Can I sit with you, mommy?” But before I can reply, Tom sends Sal to fetch all his brothers to send off to bed. Per usual, my only comfort was gone. 

“Come on, little one, time for bed.” Sal says to his brother trying to gently prod him away.

“But I want mommy.” He stands firmly and starts to huff.

“Tell you what August, I will let you sleep in my bed tonight if you go get ready now.” I smiled encouragingly at him. He perks up at that and skips off with Oliver upstairs. “Make sure they brush their teeth, Sal.” 

“Always do, mum. Goodnight and good luck.” I almost huff at that, but a line has started to form. Oh good, they want this over with just as much as I do.

“Evgeni.”

Smoke billowed from his lips and through his nostrils as silence enveloped the room.

“Revenir au lit,” the soft voice whispered again, “come back to bed, back to me.”

Evgeni turned his head to see the beautiful French woman lying in his bed, arm outstretched across the silk sheets, brown curls billowing over the pillow. He let out a sigh and snuffed out his cigarette.

“Do not act like it is chore, mon amour.”

He sauntered over, knees hitting the mattress.

“I would never do such a thing, moya dorogaya.”

A smile appeared on her lips, her fingertips skimming his kneecaps as his hand reached out and stroked the hair out of her face.

“Harriette…” he whispered, ”moya prekrasnaya frantsuzskaya printsessa. Moye serdtse vsegda toska tebya.”

“I am your… your… what is it English, Evgeni?”

His low voice chuckled, “my beautiful French princess.”

Evgeni’s lips pressed below Harriette’s ear.

“What else did you say, amour? You know Russian is not my best.”

He stopped kissing along her jaw to look into her green eyes.

“My heart yearns for you always.”

Harriette tucked the hair falling in his face behind his ear and stroked his cheek.

“Such a big scary man with a soft heart.”

He chuckled into her chest.

“It is your best secret, Ev- oh oui ma chérie, juste là... Juste comme ça.”

Evgeni chuckled again as his lips skimmed and sucked along the skin of her chest.

“You are more beautiful each time I see you.” he sighed into her skin.

Harriette’s legs wrapped around his torso and she threaded her fingers in Evgeni’s hair. Her chest rose and fell as she breathed deeply and melted into her fiance’s hands.

Evgeni raised himself up again and smiled as Harriette whined at the loss of his lips on her body.

“Soon we will not worry about being apart, moy dorogoy. We will be together and not worry about anyone other than ourselves.”

He looked deeply into her eyes, seeing his future surrounded in the most beautiful shade of green he had ever seen. She was everything he wasn’t- soft, gentle, kind hearted, but she was everything he could have ever dreamed of having in his life. A real Dolohov man didn’t fall in love, didn’t show weakness in any form, but when Harriette was nearby? Everything he was raised to be was out the window.

When they were together he didn’t think of anything else. He didn’t think of the fight he had put up with his family for the right to marry who he wanted to chose. He didn’t think of the deals and promises he had to make to allow it to happen. He didn’t think of his father’s disappointment.

“A French woman?” he would say, “You want to taint our blood with a French woman?” It didn’t matter that she was a pureblood, one of the few remaining families around, but the mere thought of diluting the generations of pure Russian blood in the Dolohov name was unthinkable. Evgeni promised things he wish he didn’t, but he would have done anything to keep Harriette close to him.

And he did.

Harriette nipped at his lower lip, eyes transfixed on his crystal blue eyes, before rolling him over and switching places. As her body towered over his- beautiful, soft, and flawless in every way- Evgeni could’ve sworn his heart had stopped and he was no longer living.

“We are together now,” she said, “and I promise that as long as we are together, nothing in the world will matter.”

She smiled, kissing her love’s jaw.

“I also promise to always wear the best silk and lace in all of France, Evi.”

“And I promise,” he replied, already breathless as his hands roamed up her torso and onto her back, “that I will always rid you of the best silk and lace in all of France.”

Harriette giggled as he slipped her bralette off and threw it across the room.

“As long as we both shall live.”

this time including, for some godforsaken reason, two pre-canon stories relating to tom riddle's ascent to becoming voldemort, and thne after one relating to the mauraders.

just !!! the riddle era fic leaving off in the perfect place where it'd seamlessly connect to the final chapters of the mauraders era fic when voldemort comes to kill the potters and then that leads perfeclty into the beginning prologue of philospher's stone....

The Poor Development of the Marauder's Era

I've recently been listening to Binge Mode and, even now, I honestly believe the Marauder's era is some of Rowling’s worst writing of the series. When I say Marauder's Era, I'm simply referring to characters and events pre Harry.

The Marauder's era isn't poorly developed because I didn't like what happened. It's poorly developed because of how Rowling handled the characters, the events she put them in, and the reaction to said events.

As a kid, I respected Lily and thought she could do no wrong. As an adult, I find her decisions questionable. For transparency purposes, I read these books in real time and was a similar age as the characters. So, I don't want to hear anything about me being "unfair." Of all of the Mauraders era kids back then, I was the most generous to Lily. It's only when I reflected more about her role in the series that I realized how lackluster she is as a character and as a friend.

Rowling relies on Lily being seen as the moral compass to signify who and what is right or wrong during this era. The problem with this is that Rowling undermines Lily in the process. Minus being flat out called Mudblood by Snape, she has no proof that Snape has done anything her friends accused him of doing, but she unequivocally views it as the truth. Despite Lily listening to Snape, it's not really in good faith because she already has her mind made up about Snape's guilt.

Now, this is important to note because since Lily hasn't seen any of Snape's alleged bad behavior for herself, why would she definitively accuse him of these things? Lily claims she was in denial about this when she ended their friendship, but it's quite obvious she does believe Snape is guilty.

What makes Lily's beliefs and choosing to side with others over Snape is that none of the Marauders have ever mentioned ONE instant of Snape doing or saying some fucked up shit. As a reminder: THEY HATED HIM. They never mentioned anything about him bullying others, calling muggles mud blood, or any other troubling behavior. It was merely because he existed. They couldn't even tie him to being a Death Eater.

Also, let's consider the fact that kids like Snape have rumors made up about them all of the time. ALL OF THE TIME. Not even Snape's own bullies could attest to Snape doing the things Lily's friends claimed Snape did, yet Lily believed their words?

And, maybe I'm being nitpicky, but the fact that Lily says "my friends" in reference to defending Snape has always rubbed me the wrong way. Snape IS her friend too. Her best friend, in fact. Why wouldn't she have said, "my OTHER friends." My Gryffindor mates or whatever? IMO, that implies that Snape is just some weirdo she talks to and not the person she's known the longest.

HOW ROWLING COULD'VE FIXED THIS:

Have Lily overhear Snape calling one of his peers Mudblood. Have the Marauders be incensed that Snape called someone a mud blood. Have them call out Lily when she tries to intervene on them confronting (confronting NOT bullying) Snape. Hell, even have Snape fucking bully someone.

Because as far as canon goes, Snape was a bystander as death eater wannabes bullied people and presumably did nothing about it. We don't see any of his alleged wrongdoings and the people who hate him can't even recall that this happened.

There shouldn't be an ambiguity or readers relying on the word and opinion of Lily to guide their opinion.

Some may say, "she's only a kid." To this I say, "You're right." Lily was a teen and teens don't always know how to handle complex situations, I will give her the benefit of the doubt. However, this means we shouldn't hold her as the moral standard.

Lily essentially says that the difference between the Marauder's bullying people and the death eater wannabes doing it is dark magic. I'm sorry, but that's weak sauce. Dark magic is such a vague and broad thing depending on what you're talking about, so nah...Also, is there something not dark about James choking Snape with soap? I mean, that could've traumatized Snape to the extent of him being triggered by soap. Isn't that dark?

HOW ROWLING COULD'VE FIXED THAT.

Jut have Lily acknowledge that behaviors by the Marauders and death eater wannabes are both bad, but for different reasons. Problem solved. She can even emphasize that she takes so much issue with Dark Magic due to why it's being used and what it ties into.

We hear how great Lily is and that everyone loves her, yet Harry meets literally NOT ONE FRIEND of Lily's. He meets James' friends and a former teacher of hers. We don't see Lily hanging out with anyone else. We hear examples of Lily feeling sad for people, but no references to her actually helping people or supporting others somehow.

HOW ROWLING COULD'VE FIXED THAT.

Maybe instead of Lily talking about the bad thing Avery and Mulciber did, she could've intervened, even if it was too late, and "saved" Mary. Hell, we could've had Lily hex James rather than just threatening it. I'm sorry, after literally reading the many ways the Golden Trio are there for each other even before big shit started to happen, Lily threatening to hex someone who is actively bullying her friend doesn't cut it.

And give her her own friends for Harry to meet.

Lily is said to be smart and empathic, but how she deals with Snape and his issues don't exactly support this.

HOW ROWLING COULD'VE FIXED IT.

Have Lily genuinely listen to Snape's grievances about the night he was saved. Don't have her be so dismissive about the Lupin thing. Maybe have Snape set up by the Marauders and the big reveal is a flop.

I know Rowling wanted to tackle people having shady pasts and how they can change, but 1. Either she needed to commit to it being a rivalry or 2. She needed to appropriately deal with the bullshit the Marauder's did. Snape is justifiably angry and distrusting of the Marauders due to one almost killing him as a joke and the other publicly humiliating him. This doesn't even account for YEARS of bullying, which remus admitted happened.

We cannot say that bullying is wrong, and then excuse the bullies because they were on the right side of a war.

HOW ROWLING COULD'VE FIXED THIS.

She should've had Remus flat out acknowledge they were wrong for what they did and that there was no excusing it. Then, have Sirius and Remus privately talk about this where Sirius admits it too. OR, despite loving them and his dad, Harry realizes how flawed they were and that their reasoning is simply to protect their dad not necessarily because James grew up. OR Rowling could've not written James and Sirius behaving as psychopaths AS WELL AS show instances of Snape starting shit with them.

SHOW US Snape deliberately starting shit with the Marauders and James trying to apologize. Show us James' growth outside of that. Don't tell us that James is secretly hexing Snape behind Lily's back because it has her looking like a dumb ass.

Also, all of this James stuff is important because Lily ending up with James is such a bad fucking look. IMO, it makes her disgust at his behavior seem performative. It says that she didn't really care about him bullying others, but rather, the perception of her being with someone who bullied others. And, no, having Lily smile as Snape was actively being bullied, and then poverty shaming him isn't a good look.

"BUT, BUT SNAPE CALLED HER A RACIST SLUR!!!"

It doesn't matter how much you want to give your friend the benefit of the doubt, if you believe he's calling others racist slurs, you need to confront it. And, if you believe it to be true, you need to end it. You don't wait until he calls you the slur to say, "hey, maybe he really is this racist person people claim he is."

HOW ROWLING COULD'VE FIXED THIS.

After James saved Snape's life, this is where he could've matured and his big head lessened. He still hexes others, but leaves Snape alone because he realized that they went to far with him even before Sirius' "prank." Instead of James being the antagonizer, it should've been Sirius. Once again, James breaks this up and he and Sirius gets into a small argument. Snape is let down as Lily runs up and Snape says his mud blood remark.

Snape then tries to hex Sirius and James steps in once Snape refuses to stop. It gets out of hand and Snape accidentally harms Lily.

I won't lie, I'm a HUGE Snape fan. However, because of how Rowling handled this era, there are many ambiguous things, situations that don't make any sense, not enough development of characters, etc which undermines the story she tried to tell.

Yes, I do love the series, except I don't like any of the Marauders or Lily. I don't hate Lily, but she grates. Remus really was a coward and irresponsible as hell. Sirius was childish as fuck and, no, him being in prison doesn't excuse or justify all of his behavior. James saved his peer's life, and then publicly humiliated and sexually assaulted him. He didn't stop bullying, he just stopped how he did it.

This doesn't mean I believe that Snape was faultless, but I believe this era was so poorly told that by default, I believe and sympathize with Snape.

Although I believe Rowling wanted readers to do this, I don't think she planned for some readers such as myself to hold the positions we do. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Snape as is, but I do believe Rowling didn't intend for me to hold the views I do about Lily and the Marauders.

I don't understand her laziness during this era, especially since it's so key in Snape, Lily, and James' stories.

Lastly, she could've developed James and Lily better.

I know she only has so much time, space, pages blah blah blah. However, the best writers find a way to make it work with what they have.

Hey CH! Do you have any interest in writing about surviving mauraders in the HP era? Like a Remus Sirius friendship (or more ;) ) that takes place after Sirius is freed? Or what Peter is thinking through all this? I think you could do an amazing job at something like this if you ever wanted to!!

You know I really haven’t thought too deeply about it, in terms of actually writing it. Right now all my focus is on the pre-1981 timeline. I honestly don’t like to think too much about the lost years for Remus or the Azkaban years for Sirius, it genuinely hurts so much 😢

TLE will not go all the way into the post-Azkaban time, but I won’t say I’d never consider writing a one shot or something. I’ve found the quickest way to get myself to want to write something is by telling myself I won’t haha.

So: no plans to, but you never know!

What got you into writing Fanfiction?

Oh gosh I can't even remember. It was either Zutara way back when or James/Lily/Mauraders era HP if we don't count my self-insert LOTR fic that will NEVER see the light of day. But, it was the pull to be able to tell stories i loved in the way *I* wanted to. Fanfic allowed me to practice in a pre-made sandbox before I ventured out to write my own stories and I still love coming back to it :).

What are you most proud of in your Fanfiction?

I've been told very good at making you feel with words -- at finding those pinpoint moments that gives you The Feels. But i love finding that emotional combination that brings out character growth and empathy towards what they are going through in that situation. I like my stories and characters to be dynamic and fanfic is no different.

What fic that you’ve written are you most proud of?

Probably a tie between "All In Her Arms" (a Prince Lindworm reylo AU from last year's RFFA) and "To Hold" (a modern reylo au where old marrieds have a moment).

The fic was mauraders-focused, set during the original order of the phoenix era (post hogwarts, pre harry, though i think lily may have been expecting harry or just had harry in the fic?) wolfstar is involved and features heavily, and it was a longer, chaptered fic. i think it was on fanfiction net when i read it a couple years ago, and i've been searching for it ever since!

do you happen to know the fic where they somehow find out the traitor is Peter. No one dies and Peter gets sent to Azkaban. The fic is basically all about them investigating peter and asking him questions. I’m pretty sure they use veritaserum on him
