Soooo you wanna read Previous Engagements on Ao3, my Isabeau family reunion fic, but it's been a hot minute (two months!!) since you've read any of the chapters, and you don't know who's who. I get it, I get it. Luckily, I have an unofficial guide to Isabeau's family tree, brought to you by the man himself.*

The Adults!! Mr Moineau (He/Him) - Yep. That's my dad. Ms Obalia Moineau (She/Her) - that's my mum alright! For better or for worse. Zorenn Nevis (She/Her) - Not my step mother, but great nonetheless! Ms and Mr Moineau's kids: Clement (He/Him) - Not my oldest brother or oldest twin. The less attention he gives me, the better. Ange (He/Him) - Probably not the older twin. He's good at talking about himself, and giving gifts - so he should just stick to his strengths. Isabeau - ME! It's easy to forget about me, apparently, but I'm here too!! Carmen (They/Them) - My younger sibling, who's great when they're not drinking. Zorenn and Mr Moineau's kids: Avann (Him/He) - My slightly-younger step-brother who makes both of those facts my problem. Marianne (She/Her) - My little sister. A good kid, even if looking at her makes me feel… anyway, she's a good kid! Twins (They/Them) - Which one's which? Don't know, don't care. Won't matter until they're 6 anyway.

As cameras becomes more normalized (Sarah Bernhardt encouraging it, grifters on the rise, young artists using it), I wanna express how I will never turn to it because it fundamentally bores me to my core. There is no reason for me to want to use cameras because I will never want to give up my autonomy in creating art. I never want to become reliant on an inhuman object for expression, least of all if that object is created and controlled by manufacturing companies. I paint not because I want a painting but because I love the process of painting. So even in a future where everyone’s accepted it, I’m never gonna sway on this.

if i have to explain to you that using a camera to take a picture is not the same as using generative ai to generate an image then you are a fucking moron.

the more i try to interpret art of any kind the more i grow to hate "it just doesn't make sense" as criticism

because very often it's not used to talk about fumbled execution. it's not about scene-to-scene inconsistency, it's not about contradictions, it's denying intent

criticism like "it just doesn't make sense" "it's just bad writing" and similar are ways to shut down any attempts to actually interface with a given work. it is denying it any authorial intent. it is denying a work coherence, it is denying a work purpose, impact.

"it just doesn't make sense" does it? or are you refusing to draw conclusions out of what is given to you?

"it just doesn't make sense" and does that matter? does the beat by beat sensicality of a work matter if it still manages to draw a reaction out of you? did you understand what themes it talked about? did it make you feel something? did it provoke thought in you?

well. did it? if so, what does it matter? many "nonsensical" works flirt with the esoteric on purpose, prioritizing impact over coherence, and that is not just "what drugs were they on when they made this", it is a deliberate choice.

"it's just bad writing" is a related, albeit still different, complaint, that also shuts down intent. similarly, it regards a work as Inherently Flawed. Just like lack of sense must be merely shoddy construction in all cases, bad writing cannot deign to tell any story at all.

so much of criticism is just a refusal to meet stories and art as a whole from the place it is speaking from. i fucking beg. think about the works you engage with. what do they make me feel? what aspects of them make me feel this way? what message is it trying to tell? how is this being told?

YES flawed execution and genuine plot holes (as in, failure to convey information to the detriment of the work) do exist and do deserve criticism, but even if a work is flawed in this way, try and look beyond that, to see what it does deliver on. because a lot of the time, you can still find that grain of good in something slapdash and terrible.

undeniably the true antagonist to da2 and in my opinion a very clever representation of the chantry's frankly terrifying role in like. all of the major conflicts of da2. but also painting her as inaffably evil or acting out of some diabolical self-serving purpose is (imo) hugely missing the point

i started a new sketch spontaneously and it actually.. feels nice to work on more than one personal piece and give each one the time it deserves without rushing, just work on what i feel like at the moment 👉👈 i missed this feeling... the new sketch is the long awaited redraw of my pfp painting btw!!

idk if anyone remembers but the original is from a few years ago, after some time i then redrew only the head for the sake of an updated pfp,, now finally the whole piece will reflect the growth too 🌷

Just to give a little perspective on what I'm working on: The next chapter of Previous Engagements will be published on the 18th, to give me some time to work up to a weekly publishing schedule!! Maybe. Hopefully. In an ideal world.

(For reference of those who have no clue what Engagements have been Previoused, it's my Post-Canon Isabeau Family Reunion Fic filled with fun found family banter; designs for Isa's not so fun biological family; terrible coping mechanisms and even worse puns. It's a good time!!)

First Impressions and Other Miracles recently hit 4k!! insane!!! I'll be doing a 'directors commentary' on each chapter to celebrate in the next coming weeks, filled with insights, snippets from the first drafts and mushy fee-fees and ling-lings for my first finished fic!! So watch this space...

(For those not in the know either, First Impressions is a pre-canon fic for how the party first met! Expect rain sandwiches, worldbuilding, and juuuuust enough Isafrin to make it a tag. cause I can't help myself.)

Put some more thought into him and wanted to grab some more screenshots, so now I figure I should do a info dump like I did with Vaughn. Jackson Reeve:

Born and raised in the Republic of Texas in 2038, he spent some time as a combat medic in the unification war, though eventually left for NC shortly after due to persisting tensions with the NUSA.

Despite having a clinic in Night City, he often answers calls to provide help to people in other areas like the Badlands, e.g. aiding people after Raffen attacks etc.

His assistant at the clinic scolds him constantly, believing him to insane for putting himself on the line at times, though Jackson remains unperturbed and now mostly chooses to just go off without saying anything.

Drives a Centurion 1000, in case he needs to transport things arounds, and keeps a shotgun in the cabin for self-defence purposes. I'm not sure how often I'll focus on him in content, as the conception mainly came to support Vaughn's living situation, but he definitely exists in the background. ((Jackson Reeve - 01/???))

If there's one thing I've learned reading Worm Fanfic and being exposed to people talking about Worm on places like SB and QQ and Reddit is that there are a lot of people who very deeply, truly, on a very fundamental level, are very very unhappy with the fact that Taylor was a villain protagonist and have never gotten over that fact.

Despite the fact that they somehow finished Worm.

Which of course, begs the question - Why? How? why subject yourself to that?

Like, one of the reasons I hesitated to read Worm once I started learning more about it, etc was because I thought Taylor would be an insufferable protagonist to read the POV of. She wasn't, as it turns out, and it's a key reason I'm still reading it but if Taylor had actually been so insufferable, and if I hated everything she does and is in the story as much as some people seem to, I'd never have gotten past like, Arc 6 or 7, at most.

Are there people who will really hate read 1.6 million words? I mean, I know a guy who read all 14 wheel of time books despite decicding he hated the series by the end of Book 1, so I guess that's a thing but like...
