Headcanon Time - Language
Tumblr media
As usual, find the headcanon below the cut!
The tamaranean language is very exclusive. Not in ‘there is no way to learn it by studies’, but almost no one of any other species bothers to learn their language. The tamaraneans can learn any other language through lip-contact (unless they are unable to but the ones with that handicap are either somehow covering their problem with excuses, or are seen as simply refusing to adapt and then treated even worse), and so normally it is the tamaranean that has to, or is expected/supposed to, learn the other language if there is communication wanted or needed.
Those who call them ‘Troqs’ (or other slurs) normally also talk down their language. They claim that the language is too simple for other species to understand without first ‘lowering themselves’ enough to be able to work with such simplicity. However, this of course isn’t true and the language is no less or more complicated than any other language you’d pick.
As a short way of explaining how I create my tamaranean: I make words, if I need them, by building them out of a few words from different languages I know that mean the same or something similar. My most used languages for this are english, german, japanese and latin. Having these words, I then start mixing them together, until I find a word that I’m content with (it has to ‘feel’ right, it’s hard to explain), and that word is then adapted to the ‘rules’ I’ve set, and written down in my collection of the tamaranean language. I don’t know about how many rules there actually are to set for a language, but for example in my version of tamaranean a ‘go’ at the end of a word means that it’s the ‘I’-form, and when it’s negated there is a ‘no’ added before the ending. Example: ‘Mo-’ is their word for ‘to move’. To say ‘I move’ it has to be ‘mogo’, and to say ‘I don’t move’ would be ‘monogo’.
That said, ‘go’ doesn’t always guarantee that the word ending on it is a verb, neither do the endings for other persons. ‘Go’ is also their word for ‘to shoot’/’ a shot’ (depending on if there’s a form as ending added or not), and it is also used in other words or nicknames.
I’m not gonna go into more details for how the language is constructed here, but I am going to give a few examples of common tamaranean words. If you’re not interested in those, you can stop reading right here, for below this you’ll only find a list of a few common words and what they mean.
-------------------
We start of with ‘mergeby’. It means ‘Forgive me’, it is a very very formal and polite form of saying one is sorry.
A more common way to apologize is ‘tussord’, which also means ‘I am sorry’ but in a much more lax way.
‘Amn’ is the basic for ‘friend’, but there’s always something added to it. ‘Amnia’ means female friend (not in the way of girlfried like relationship, simply of that the friend is female), ‘Amno’ would be a male friend and ‘Amnd’ would be without defining it further. ‘Amns’ means ‘friends’.
Similar to the one above, ‘Prrin’ is the basic for ‘Prince/Princess’. The things to add are explained above, so I won’t do it here again.
While they call their planet Tamaran, the inhabitants aren’t called tamaraneans in their language, instead it’s ‘Tamra’ with the endings as shown already.
I think I mentioned this already somewhere, but ‘Giederbehen’ is ‘Goodbye’.
Counting from one to ten goes as follows: ‘Ons’, ‘Tewi’, ‘Dhr’, ‘Fvio’, ‘Ife’, ‘Shi’, ‘Sive’, ‘Echg’, ‘Nui’, ‘Zote’.
‘Rutha’ is a term we know from the cartoon, and as Starfire had already explained there it means ‘weak’, but is also the closest to ‘nice’ or ‘kind’ that their language has.
‘Kar’h’ is a term for saying ‘thanks’ or ‘thank you’.
‘Ji’ means ‘Yes’, ‘nn’ (which sounds a bit like humming) means ‘no’.
‘Whro’ means ‘where’
‘Wys’ is ‘why’
‘Whm’ can mean ‘from who’, or ‘who’ depending on the context
‘Wha’ means ‘what’
‘Hiwe’ means ‘how’
‘Dyn’ means ‘your’, ‘myn’ means ‘mine’
‘Yoh’ means ‘you’, ‘ch’ means ‘I’
‘Ch’ is also the most common ‘word’ or phrase used when thinking. Where for us it might be ‘uh’, ‘erm’ or something like that, for a tamaranean it’s ‘ch’. Which sounds a lot like hissing.
‘Ivr’ means something like ‘always’ or ‘ever’, and ‘nivr’ means ‘never’
‘Abu’ is ‘but’
‘Fli-’ means ‘to fly’
‘Arr-’ means ‘to fear’, or ‘to be afraid’, something like that
‘Shoi-’ means ‘to shoot’ (alternatively 'Go-' as mentioned above)
‘War-’ means ‘to wait’
‘Hiteck-’ means ‘to hide’
‘Nik-’ is ‘to take’ as in grabbing
‘Kno-’ is ‘to know’
‘Stol-’ is ‘to stop’
‘Br-‘ is ‘to be’, but the forms here aren’t as regular as most of the other verbs.
I believe this should give enough examples (I actually doubt anyone is really interested in the list of words I gave down here), and that’s also all I have to say to their language!

Title: Heaven is a Place on Earth
Pairings/Relationships: Dick Grayson/Kory Anders, Core Four
Summary: Stargazing was really relaxing and helped with her shattered nerves but Kory knew deep down she needed something more.
Check out the prompt list | REQUESTS OPEN
Hand-holding | 43. raising the other’s hand to their lips to kiss it softly, Dickkory - for Vanessa N Isaacs
When she abruptly woke up, her breathing rapid and heartbeat racing, all she could feel was fire.
Kory's used to fire coursing through her veins, but this time it's not the warm and comforting power of her Starfire, it's a conflagration, turning her into a pile of ashes. Sweat was dripping from her face, lungs refused to cooperate and the only thing on her mind was run, get out.
Throwing the tangled covers away in a hurry she slipped off the comfortable mattress to sit down at the edge of the bed. She wanted to run her fingers through the messy bush of her curly purple hair but she noticed her palms were giving out a soft orange glow. The waves of heat were flowing underneath her skin like water in the river during a storm. The sight could be almost calming but it only added fuel to the fear squeezing Kory's chest.
"It was just a dream," she whispered, closing her eyes, her fingers curling into fists. "Just a fucking dream."
She ordered herself to steady her breathing, to calm down her raging heart. She looked over her shoulder at Dick, who remained asleep on his side of their bed, facing away from her. In the faint light coming from the window she could make out the outline of his bare back. Watching him breathe in his sleep calmed her down a bit but she knew it won't do the trick after the horrors she just witnessed in her mind.
So she stood up and as quietly as she could stepped out of the room.
***
The door to Rachel's room creaked when she opened it and Kory froze. She waited five seconds, holding her breath, but the girl didn't wake up. Kory didn't mean to enter anyway, she just wanted to slide her head in to sneak a glance, that's all.
Rachel slept soundly curled up in her bed, wrapped in her blankets so tightly that only the top of her head was visible. Kory's heart slowed its pace a little, knowing that the girl was alright. She leaned her head on the doorframe and smiled fondly. She could never sleep like that, she'd feel trapped, not to mention how hot it'd be under all these blankets, but Rachel loved the heat. She loved to bury herself in the covers and pillows and soak up the warmth, especially when she didn't have anyone to cuddle with and share body heat - usually that person was Dick.
She's okay, Kory told herself when the images from her nightmare flooded her mind again. She's okay and she's sleeping so stop being paranoid.
She closed the door with a soft click and moved to the bedroom next door - Gar's. Peering inside she let out a quiet laugh. The boy was sprawled out on top of the covers, arms and legs spread in every direction. His mouth was slightly open and the soft snoring sound he was making made Kory giggle so hard she had to press her hand to her mouth to keep it quiet. He's okay, she told herself and closed the door behind her, a fond smile still tugging at her lips.
It was just a dream. The kids are alright.
Then why was she still shaking? Why was her heart still trying to break out of her chest? Why were her hands still glowing? She didn't- She didn't, right? She just checked. The kids are alright.
There's no going back to bed, Kory knew it. So her bare feet carried her further down the hall to the living room and out on the balcony. She stepped out into the chilly night air, not feeling a bit cold despite having only a gray tank top and pink shorts on. Leaning on the railing with her hands folded in front of her she looked up and took a long, deep breath.
The sky was exceptionally clear tonight, the stars scattered around were shining like glitter, she could even make out a few constellations. Such views are rare in cities like San Francisco - at least that's what Dick told her once. Something about pollution in the air and tall buildings covering the sky.
Stargazing was really relaxing and helped with her shattered nerves but Kory knew deep down she needed something more. Something that unfortunately was out of reach this time.
Back on her home planet whenever she felt the need to clear her mind or get her unstable powers under control, she would take a small ship for a ride and spend a few hours drifting in space, close to Tamaran's orbit, watching those little shiny dots from up close. Oh, to be stardiving again! It was the only time she, Koriand'r, Princess of Tamaran, could be truly alone - no royal guard, no servants, no nobles, politicians or other royal family members, close or distant. She missed soaring through hyperspace, twirling between asteroids, surfing on stardust. The other day during a movie night the team was watching one of the Star Wars movies (Gar wanted a whole marathon and he was stubborn as hell about it) and at some point Kory had to excuse herself and run to hide in the bathroom because she was one second away from crying. Seeing the vast space, the ships, even the hyperspace tunnel (that didn't look like this in real life at all but that's not the point) felt like getting repeatedly stabbed in the heart. It brought back memories that were fond and happy but stung like a fresh cut. Her heart couldn't take it.
Being out there felt almost heavenly, it just made all your worries go away, even if only for a moment. No duties, no laws, no control, nothing - just her and the stars. The lights, the colors, the feeling of being light as a feather… she missed being instantly healed from her worries thanks to all that.
But things are different now. Back then Kory took every opportunity to run away from her duties and responsibilities and hide between the stars. Now she was here on Earth - with new duties and new responsibilities. And she found herself realizing that for the first time in her life she doesn't want to get away from them, even for a moment of quiet and peace. She had this team now, this family, two amazing kids she and Dick were raising together - she couldn't just take off whenever she felt like it. She wasn't a princess anymore, but she was a freaking superhero, a friend, a girlfriend and most of all - a mother.
She looked at her hands again, feeling that her lower lip was starting to tremble. If that dream had been real, if the kids really were… if she really-
"There you are," she heard a sleepy voice behind her and turned to find Dick standing in the doorway. He was barefoot as well, only in sweatpants and a t-shirt he must have thrown on when he got up. He was watching her with curious eyes, but not without a hint of worry. "What are you doing here in the middle of the night?"
She gave him a faint smile even though she could feel tears welling up behind her eyes. One glance down told her that her palms were still glowing so she hid them behind her back.
"I just needed some fresh air."
His gaze lost all signs of curiosity - now it was just worry. He stepped out onto the balcony, closing the door behind him.
"Nightmares?" he guessed.
She shook her head and sighed, "Dick…"
"Kory…" he shot back mocking her tone, half playful, half serious and she instantly knew she lost that fight. Once he noticed something was wrong he wasn't going to back down. It was their children who taught him that patience and resilience with their own night terrors and shutting down.
Dick walked up to her and leaned back against the railing, crossing his arms over his chest. Kory turned back to the city view and fixed her eyes on the buildings but she could feel his gaze boring into her skull, studying her, trying to read something from her face.
"It was nothing." she finally told him, not being able to stand the pressure anymore.
"If you're out here at 3 am watching the stars, it's not nothing."
She winced and looked away. Damn it, sometimes she forgot how well he knew her. It's one of the things she loved so much about him - he could break her down to pieces and put back together with one single glance.
She dropped her head, squeezing her eyes shut. Part of her wanted to tell him, he was only trying to help after all, but at the thought of putting that nightmare into words a painful lump grew in her throat. She shook her head helplessly, her lips pressed into a thin line. She couldn't do it.
His hand slipped across her back and Kory shivered when he moved closer to embrace her. It was a hesitant hug, he wanted to comfort her but was mindful of her needing space and acted carefully, ready to step back if she wanted him to.
She didn't.
"You know you can tell me, right?" he whispered, leaning closer to her face. Their eyes met and after a long moment full of dread Kory uncurled her fingers wrapped around the railing, revealing a soft orange glow that illuminated their faces.
"I lost control," she breathed out, her voice wobbly. "My Starfire got out of hand and… I hurt the kids."
Her voice broke and she lost the fight to keep her tears at bay. She leaned into Dick who instantly wrapped his arms around her, letting her hide her face in the curve of his neck.
"They begged me to stop and I- I couldn't." She was full-on sobbing now. The dam finally broke. "I felt nothing, I was empty. But I can still hear Gar screaming, I can feel Rachel's skin melting under my hand…"
She couldn't get another word out, it was too much. Kory couldn't remember the last time she cried this hard, but now she wasn't able to stop. Dick held her tightly against him, rubbing her back.
"Kory, you would never do that-"
"You don't know that!" She cried out, ripping herself out from his embrace. His arms fell helplessly to his sides as he watched her with pain and worry written all over his face. Kory lifted her hands in front of her, showing him the pulsing fire beneath her skin. "I woke up and my hands looked like this. I didn't do anything while I was asleep but how can I know I won't do it next time?"
Dick took a step closer.
"Kory-"
"How can I know I won't hurt Rachel or Gar - or you - when I'm like this? How-"
"Kory!" he called out to her and stopped her panicked rambling by grabbing her hands in between his own. He locked eyes with her before he pulled her closer, trapping their joined hands between their chests and then spoke softly but with total conviction.
"Kory, this is not gonna happen."
She tried to swallow the lump in her throat. "How do you know?"
Dick smiled, then slowly lifted her hands to his lips and kissed them softly.
"Because I know these hands," he whispered tenderly and lifted his eyes back at her. "They are capable of many things but they would never hurt our kids in any way. You would never do that, Kory. I know that and Gar and Rachel know that, too."
Her heart almost melted when she heard him say our kids. They both loved them more than anything in the world. And that love is what brought them together, tying them to each other like an invisible string.
Blinking away her tears Kory finally smiled and leaned her forehead against his.
"Have I ever told you that I love you, Grayson?"
He let out a quiet chuckle and let go of her hands, wrapping his arms around her waist instead.
"Maybe once or twice."
She looped her arms around his neck relishing in his closeness. They stayed like that, forehead to forehead, until her heartbeat came back to normal and the last of her tears had dried out.
"We can go check on them if you want." he suggested softly, gazing into her eyes. She brushed her nose against his.
"I already did. I almost didn't notice Rachel under all those blankets."
Dick chuckled and Kory felt her heart skipping a beat at the sight of dimples that appeared on his face. Great X'Hal, she was head over heels for this man.
"Yeah, she loves to turn herself into a burrito," he nodded, smiling tenderly. "And let me guess, Gar's spread out on his bed as wide as he can, isn't he?"
"Like a fucking starfish." she giggled, shaking her head. "Funny how he'd take up a lot less space if he actually turned into one."
"Oh, don't give him ideas." Dick shot her a warning look but his gaze wasn't serious and his voice sounded giddy. "Remember what happened last time he turned into a sea creature?"
They both burst out laughing so hard Kory had to lean her head on Dick's shoulder. Yeah, she remembered a giant green dolphin in the middle of their living room damn too well. Gar was so panicked he forgot how to turn back and although it was a bit scary back then, now it was one of the best embarrassing stories they loved to tell and he hated to hear.
When their laughter died down they both sighed in content and found themselves lost in each other's eyes again. Dick reached out to tuck an unruly purple curl behind her ear.
"So what do you wanna do?" he murmured, his low voice sending shivers down her spine. She looked up at the stars again and smiled. She didn't need to drift between the stars to feel like she's in Heaven - she found it here, in the loving arms of the best man she has ever known.
"This." She breathed out and leaned in to press her lips to his, softly at first as a sign of gratitude, but then his arms gripped her tighter and he deepened the kiss, putting more passion into it. And the galaxy of stars lit up behind Kory's eyes, the fire in her veins spreading out from her palms through her entire body. It wasn't dangerous and scary anymore, but warm and bright, like the love she felt for her new family.
Yeah, who needs stardiving when Heaven is a place on Earth?

You as a super hero head cannon!
PSA: your powers resemble Starfire’s because I didn’t have time to make a completely new hero with a cool background so creds to DC!
Before Tony took Peter under his wing. When you were 8, Tony trained you to become a really talented superhero
He found out about you when he saw you use your powers out of self defense
He was walking out of a cafe and saw you getting pushed around by some thugs and saw you shoot colorful energy beams from your hand and knocked out the thugs
Oh mY GOD WHAT
Tony immediately asked you to come with him back to the tower. Meanwhile you’re on the sidewalk hopping no one saw, but Tony saw everything
“Hey kid! I don’t know who you are, what you did, but you have potential. Why don’t you call your mom and we can arrange a meetup in the tower, yeah?”
You were so shocked, the Tony Stark wanted you to meet at his Tower!
You’ve looked up to him since you were a 4! And now he’s here offering you ANVENGER TRAINING
“You’re..T-Tony...”
“Yeah yeah kid, anyways. You in or not? Because my coffee is getting cold”
Of course you said yes, you had the potential to be an Avenger!
you’re mind was like EEeeeEeEehhh
“I-I don’t have a mom...I have an Aunt. She was my moms royal advisor. She looks after me”
“Royal advisor?”
When Tony took you back to the tower, you explained how you weren’t technically human, you were a royal alien species from a planet called Tamaran
And your planet weilded an Infinty Stone.
Your parents were King and Queen
But your parents were killed by Thanos...
So your Aunties and Uncles sent you to Earth inside of a pod so Thanos wouldn’t find you because you left with the stone
Your Auntie (A/N) was the middle child who decided to leave Tamaran to raise you and blend in with human society and keep you and the stone safe
She wanted the Tamaranean legacy to live on for as long as possible
Tony had a hard time believing you until you showed him your crown with the stone as the jewel centerpiece
Tony immediately took you to the tower
“So I basically adopted a super human princess into the team? Okay, cool cool.”
Everyone was a bit skeptical at first because you were only 8 at the time and your powers were a bit shaky.
“Uhhh, Tony? You want a kid on the team?”
“YES! ANOTHA ROYAL BLOOD!”
“That’s Thor.”
“Won’t she be a bit unstable, Tony?”
Tony honestly believed in you
DAD!Tony momentsssss
Bruce being super giddy studying your abilities!1!1
Thor being your hype up man
“YES ANOTHER SPACE PERSON OF ROYAL BLOOD!”
Once you showed them your true potential, everyone was honestly really impressed!
“BIG COLORFUL LIGHTS! SHES WORTHY!”
“Thor you say that all the time”
You could fly! And shoot large energy beams from your palms, and shoot energy “bullets”
Bruce geeked knowing he could experiment on you
“You’re...from space?!”
“You’re royalty?”
Sam thought you were pretty badass
Steve was truly in awe
Tony arranged daily meetings to the tower and helped you train
Oh yeah
Your aunt...
When Tony arranged a meeting with her, it was a bit challenging to convince a Royal advisor from space to let her 8 year old niece to start training to become an Avenger
“yoU WHAT?!”
“Avenger, yes ma’am”
“nO NO NO WHY WHY WHY”
But she obliged eventually
So training began and you excelled quickly to say the least
Tony was extremely proud of you all the time but he tried pulling the aloof card all the time
What you didn’t tell him until way later on is that Tamaraneans are huge empaths so you can feel others emotions at will.
“hehe you’re proud of me”
“sTOP BEING SO ALIEN LIKE”
“(Y/N) don’t forget to pack your super suit!
“Don’t make me come down there mISSY!”
Everything was great until your Auntie got sick
Really sick
She ended up passing away a little after you turned 9
You had no one
You couldn’t go back to Tamaran it was too dangerous and you would have to be queen if you did, and you were way too young.
So Tony did the right thing and adopted you, officially turning you into (Y/N) Koriand’r Stark!
You immediately moved into the tower and kept a portrait of your Tamaranean family tree in your room
It felt like you were just alone a minute ago and now you have a family larger than ever.
Tony would offer homeschool education and human...uhm etiquette?
“What’s this pointy thing?”
“(Y/N), dear that’s a fork”
“Oh”
Thor keeping you in touch with your spacey royal side, too
Bruce and Tony studying all of your abilities
Flight
“Starbolts”
Emotion reading
Ability to breathe in space
Super strength
Super human smarts
Ability to understand any language through lip contact (butttt you prefer to study the language than kiss some stranger)
Natasha and Wanda would spar with you and take you out for girls day since you never got to meet your mom, and you didn’t have siblings
once you were 14 you officially became an Avenger
“Mini killer!”
“Clint, shut up!”
Natasha and Wanda were so proud of you
Everyone accepted you and treated you like the daughter they never had!
You met all sorts of heroes and fought all sorts of crime
With the help and security of The Team, they still practically hovered over you
“Hon, have you eaten?”
“Yes,Wanda”
“Do you have your super suit?”
“Yes, Clint”
“Are you hurt? I heard a noise!”
“I dropped my phone, Steve”
But they love you with all their hearts
Especially Tony, he’s so glad he adopted you
You thought life couldn’t get better, you had an amazing family, a good education, an amazing house
Once you turned 15 you convinced Tony to enroll you in Midtown High School
The first day of your sophomore year was going great until you bumped into a surprisingly buff male figure
“Oof! Sorry I’m so sorry-I’m such a...oh wow”
You felt his heart race along with yours and felt...warm?
“Oh you’re okay!, I’m (Y/N)”
“I’m Peter, Peter Parker”

TTA Oneshot: Creature Feature
This oneshot was spawned from me wondering why, if Beast Boy can become alien animals, he never takes advantage of that fact to morph into sapient alien animals with superpowers of their own. I still don't have an answer for why he never tried going dragon after the team fought Malchior, though. Maybe that form is too big to maneuver through the city?
Fun fact: the episode Betrothed is immediately followed by Crash, which actually gives this story a neat little niche to fit in. You'll see what I mean later in the story.
(This oneshot is crossposted on fanfiction.net, as part of the Moments series)
Creature Feature Beast Boy narrowed his eyes and stared at his hand. He was alone in the common room, sprawled out on the couch with a forgotten comic tossed to the side.
The Titans had recently returned from their first-ever trip to Tamaran, and it had certainly been… an experience. A good experience in the end, mind you, but the whole wedding thing and Starfire being a princess and Blackfire having at some point taken over the planet and then the wedding thing being a trap that they stopped and Starfire kicking her sister’s sorry butt and taking the crown… It had all been kinda overwhelming.
Pretty cool though. Even if Beast Boy still couldn’t figure out how half the furniture on that planet worked. Was that what Star had felt like when she first came to Earth?
Anyway, point was, so much had happened during their little space trip that he had almost forgotten something cool he’d learned about himself. Now that he remembered, though, he couldn’t get the thought out of his head.
A low whoosh signaled the entrance of another Titan, and Beast Boy’s ears pricked. He sat up and looked over the back of the couch to see Starfire floating through the doorway.
A wide grin split his face. “Hey, Star! You got a sec? I actually wanted to talk to you about something.”
Starfire perked up at the sound of his voice, and she made her way over. “What is it?”
Beast Boy started bouncing in his seat. “So, you know those giant freaky Tamaranean guard dogs?”
Starfire blinked. “Guard do- You mean the gloorgs?”
“Sure, the gloogs or whatever. Point is, when we were trying to crash your wedding, I was able to morph into one! How cool is that?”
Starfire’s eyes widened a fraction, and she sat down and scooted closer to him. “Fascinating. So, you wish to learn more about Tamaranean wildlife so you may better wield their forms?”
Beast Boy shook his head, still grinning. “Not exactly. See, sentient lifeforms like humans are just really smart animals, right? So if I can turn into Tamaranean animals, then I should be able to turn into a Tamaranean. How cool is that?!”
Now, when he had pictured this conversation in his head, this part had led to a lot of gobsmacked awe and maybe a call for celebration over the sheer potential of his newfound power. Tamaraneans were, after all, a plainly powerful race – and not the only one, either. With a little effort, he could probably morph into a Martian, or an Atlantean, or even a freaking Kryptonian.
He could be ALL the superheroes.
Instead, Starfire’s response was simply to clap once and smile at him. “Oh, that does sound interesting! I would be quite happy to share more of my heritage with you, if that is what you wish.”
Well… That wasn’t quite the expected level of enthusiasm. Beast Boy deflated a little, but he shook it off. She probably just hadn’t considered all the ramifications yet.
“Okay, just sit tight,” he said instead, adjusting his position. “I’m gonna try it.”
Starfire nodded, and Beast Boy squinted and tried to focus. His shapeshifting was more-or-less an instinctive thing, but he needed a firm grasp of the animal in question to do it. He was too used to thinking of Star as just another person with powers, rather than a whole different species.
After a few moments, he pinpointed what he wanted and stretched. That was the only way he could ever think of to describe it, even when he was shrinking his form.
It was a… bizarre sensation. He was used to changing shape completely, his flesh warping around itself in a way that was a lot less unpleasant than it sounded. This time the shift was much more subtle – little more than a vague tingling sensation and a few more noticeable shifts in his face and gut. That was… probably a good sign?
Not sure what else to do, he held up a hand and looked at it again, flexing and curling his fingers. He couldn’t see any difference, but no real surprise there. Still…
“Hey, do I look any different to you?” he asked her. “Taller, maybe? I feel like Tamaraneans are all really tall.”
Starfire looked him over and hummed in thought, then smiled. She zipped over to the kitchen and rummaged around for a few moments before returning with a large metal platter and holding it up to him.
Beast Boy squinted at his reflection. It took him a moment to notice what with all the green already on his face, but then his eyes widened.
The whites of said eyes weren’t so white anymore. Also, his eyebrows had shrunk to little dots.
With a triumphant cackle, he leaped up on the couch. “Dude! It really worked! I’m a Tamaranean now!” He started punching the air.
“Okay, when do I get to start chucking starbolts at bad guys?”
Starfire set the platter down and commented, “I very much doubt that you will be able to do that.”
Beast Boy froze mid-punch. “Huh? Why not?”
Starfire leaned back on her hands. “It takes a significant amount of power to generate enough stellar energy for ranged use. It bears similarities to training the muscles to increase your strength.” She shrugged. “I required several years of training to use starbolts with any consistency.”
Beast Boy frowned. “Oh. I guess that makes sense.”
Well, bummer. Still, he wasn’t about to be deterred. Hopping down to the floor, he asked, “So what about flying then? I could still fly around and punch stuff and not have to worry about my arms getting tired!”
Starfire perked up. “Oh, that is much simpler! For that you must focus on the unbridled joy of flight. If you feel flight, and allow that feeling to buoy you, then it will come to you naturally.”
Joy? Piece of cake. Beast Boy squeezed his eyes shut and pictured himself zooming through the air, doing loop-de-loops and punching through walls and all the other cool stuff he’d seen Star do even when she wasn’t hurling glowey green lasers around.
It was going to be awesome.
With that last thought, something clicked in his head and he felt his feet leave the ground. His eyes snapped open to find himself halfway to the ceiling.
“Ha-hah!” he shouted, pumping both fists in the air. “Behold the mighty Space Boy! I am invincible! I am –”
And that was when he smacked his head hard against the ceiling.
“So that’s how I learned that stopping and steering with weird mental flight powers is a lot harder when you haven’t grown up doing it.”
Beast Boy, human again, held an ice pack against the back of his head as he finished his story. From where she was meditating a few feet away, Raven cracked an eye open and turned it on him.
“Did you really hit yourself hard enough to need that?” she asked.
Beast Boy shrugged. “Eh, not really. Tamaraneans are pretty tough.” With a grumble he added, “And now I know why.”
He pulled the ice pack away and frowned at it. “Also, apparently they need to focus on something to make super strength work, too? What is even up with that?”
“Considering Starfire can tear through solid concrete with the muscle mass of a bean pole, I’d imagine a lot.”
Beast Boy’s eyes slid over to her, and a smirk made its way to his mouth. “Buuut, you know what does make sense as something you need focus for?”
Raven opened her other eye and narrowed both at him. “I don’t like where this is going.”
Beast Boy jumped to his feet and started bouncing on his heels. “Seriously! You’re from, like, another dimension, right? And your magic kinda works on its own, so it’s gotta come from whatever species you are instead of being something you have to study for like a wizard. Tell me I’m wrong!”
His companion simply crossed her arms. “I’m half human.”
“Really? Oh, well, the other half then.” He gasped. “Or maybe I could actually be a hybrid! Why did I never think of that before? I could mix together all the best species and become some sort of ultra-beast!”
Raven rolled her eyes. “Hybrids don’t work that way.” Sighing with the air of defeat that said she’d never get her meditation done now, she swung her legs out of the lotus position and stood up.
For his part, Beast Boy shook his head. “Right. One thing at a time.” He returned his full attention to her.
“Sooo, spill the details. What do I need to know about your super-cool interdimensional magic half?”
Raven looked suddenly very uncomfortable, for reasons he couldn’t quite place. Looking back on the conversation later, he’d come to conclude that it probably had something to do with the freaky giant probably-not-the-human-parent “father” he’d once seen in her mindscape (and much later he’d understand that it had everything to do with him). But for now, all he knew was that she was avoiding eye contact and hesitating as if looking for an excuse to change the subject.
Finally, she shook her head and settled on a simple, “Forget it. It’s way too dangerous, and if you couldn’t handle Tamaranean powers then there’s no way you’d be able to handle mine.”
Beast Boy deflated. “Aww, how come? Your powers are a straightforward ‘think a thing, make a shield or whatever,’ right? No special physical training or weird emotion games.”
Raven let out a long-suffering sigh and pinched the bridge of her nose. “First off, it’s not that simple. But more importantly, let’s put it this way. You remember the incident with the Puppet King, when Starfire and I had to save you with our bodies switched?”
Beast Boy shuddered a little at the memory. “It’s kinda hard to forget.”
“You might not have noticed considering your… condition at the time, but the differences in our training and emotional states meant we both had trouble with each other’s powers. In my case, I had a hard time accessing her powers because of the emotional energy they required.”
Beast Boy snorted and muttered, “Yeah, no wonder,” under his breath. Raven turned a withering glare on him, and after a few moments of squirming he cleared his throat.
“Uh, sorry. Go on.”
The sorceress just kept her warning look on him as she continued. “In her case, she was in a constant struggle to keep from accidentally blowing us up.”
It took him a few seconds for that to fully sink in.
“…Oh.”
“Aww, come on, you gotta have something!”
Hot Spot let out a low sigh over the communicator. “I don’t know what to tell you. I was raised by human parents, my powers and the ones the other hybrid kids have are all different, and I haven’t exactly taken the time to study H’san Natall biology. For all I know, you wouldn’t get any new powers at all.”
Beast Boy groaned dramatically and flopped over on his chair. “Duude, I’m having like no luck with this!” He huffed. “Thanks anyway.”
Hot Spot gave him a flat look. “Yeeeeah, next time you want to learn more about the vicious alien invaders who secretly sired and later kidnapped me, just feel free to hit me up.”
After a moment’s thought, he added, “Have you tried Aqualad yet? You guys are buddies or something, right?”
Beast Boy chewed on the inside of his cheek. “Yeah, turns out like half of his powers are some kinda magic that doesn’t come with the species.”
There was a long awkward moment where neither hero knew where to take the conversation. “So, is that everything?” Hot Spot finally asked. “Because if you didn’t need anything else…”
Beast Boy sighed. “Yeah, that was it. Talk to you later.”
The line went out, and he looked morosely over his list of non-human Titans. It wasn’t too short considering there were only five core members and a handful of honoraries, and he’d been so sure he could find something that worked. But Hot Spot had been his last hope. Maybe he should just try morphing into a H’san Natall and see what happened?
He tried that, squeezing his eyes shut and focusing on what he knew about Hot Spot. He strained for several seconds, but nothing clicked, nothing stretched, and in the end, he probably just looked like an idiot.
Well, nuts. Either he couldn’t do hybrids after all and Hot Spot wasn’t enough to give him the full species, or whatever had let him morph Tamaranean didn’t apply here.
Technically, he could still ask Robin to hook him up with the Justice League’s alien members. But if he couldn’t even work out how to mimic his own teammates, what was the point?
With nothing else to do now that his little project had failed, Beast Boy found himself heading toward the garage. Cyborg was there, making yet more upgrades to the T-car.
“This is delicate work, don’t touch anything,” he said by rote as he saw his friend enter.
Beast Boy sighed again and plopped down on a workbench. “Yeah, I know.”
Cyborg looked up from his work. “No luck with ‘Space Boy,’ I’m guessing? Because I hate to tell you, but I don’t think robots count as a species.”
“You heard about that?”
“The girls filled me in.” Cyborg switched tools and got back to work.
Beast Boy flopped back on the bench. “You know what’s really nice? Animal instincts. Not having to work out how to fly, or pounce, or use your teeth and claws, because you just know.”
Cyborg raised a brow at him. “You have to train with your animal forms all the time.”
The shapeshifter frowned. “I guess. But they still make more sense than starbolts or magic.”
Cyborg snorted and wiped his hands off with a cloth. “Coulda told you that.” He frowned thoughtfully.
“You know, maybe you’ve been going about this all wrong. That Tamaranean guard thing was impressive. Have you tried anything new other than sapient beings with complex powersets of their own?”
Beast Boy’s ears perked, and he sat up slowly. “I guess I haven’t really thought a lot about it yet. You think I could do more alien animals?”
Without another thought he shifted back into a gloorg. Cyborg yelped and ran around to shield the car with his body, but the now-alien creature just shifted his weight a little and trotted in place, testing out the new form.
Morphing back, he hummed in thought. “Not too different from some of my dinosaurs, but I still don’t know all of its tricks and there’s a whole planet of probably terrifying animals to explore. I gotta talk to Star!”
Cyborg glared at him, still pressed against his baby. “Please don’t experiment like that next to the delicate machinery.”
Beast Boy waved off the comment, barely registering it. “Yeah, sure thing. Ooh! Maybe I can do hybrids, like a liger or something. Would that be any better than a regular tiger? Oh! Or what if I go the opposite way? Maybe I could be an amoeba. It’d be the perfect infiltrator!”
Peeling himself off the car, Cyborg frowned. “Does that even count as an animal?”
“Not according to modern taxonomy, but neither should alien creatures, so who knows!” Beast Boy cackled and started vaulting up the stairs to the tower proper, two steps at a time. “Space Boy, AWAY!”
He couldn’t see the look on his friend’s face as he ran off to find Starfire again, but as much as he wanted it to be awe and maybe a little envy over his mad skills, he knew it was probably something more akin to pure bafflement. That was okay. As far as he was concerned, Beast Boy had a whole world – no, a whole galaxy of options just waiting to be tried. He didn’t know how many of those options he’d end up using on a regular basis, but that was okay too.
Because whatever happened, it was going to be awesome.

I Have Loved The Stars Too Fondly To Be Fearful Of The Night
"Bruce didn’t trust Kory. Dick knew this.
But this? This is a new level of absolute distrust, of not just worrying about but believing that someone close to you will betray you."
Kory finds something in the Batcave that Dick would've preferred she not have.
(also posted on ao3!)
“Though my soul may set in darkness, it will rise in perfect light; I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.” - Sarah Williams
Bruce didn’t trust Kory. Dick knew this.
Dick was pretty sure Bruce could count the amount of people he trusted on one hand. He had spent a lifetime building walls all around himself until only a select few could get in and out. He was Batman. Trust wasn’t in his vocabulary. He was darkness, the night, and all those other things he said in that ominous tone of his.
But this? This is a new level of absolute distrust, of not just worrying about but believing that someone close to you will betray you.
The look in Kory’s eyes when she held the shackles in one hand and a thick manilla folder in the other had nearly broken his heart. It was the distraught, hopeless look she got those few times when she opened up about her past: brutal training, enslavement, arranged marriage, experimentations. Getting her to open up to him was less like a flower softly blooming and more like a geode being split in two to reveal the crystals inside.
They were in the research room in the Batcave, a place that Dick had to fight tooth and nail to get Kory access to. And now, Dick was somewhat regretting that decision. She had gone to find a file on some villain they were tracking down, but came back with this one instead. Her hands were shaking when she said, in an oddly calm tone, “What is this?”
Dick knew exactly what it was. Bruce kept a file on all threats, past, present, and future, in order to always have a plan of attack. But, god, Dick had no idea Bruce kept one on his girlfriend .
He wanted to tell her that it had nothing to do with her, but the evidence was damning. The folder was labeled “Koriand’r / Starfire”, written in Bruce’s neat handwriting, and contained not only photos of her but detailed outlines of her powers and weaknesses. Say what you will about Bruce, but he does his research.
Alien warrior princess from the planet Tamaran in the Vega system. An ally, but potentially extremely dangerous should she turn dark.
Do not engage in direct hand-to-hand combat, only use weapons such as a sword, staff, or knife that give you the upper hand over her alien strength. She has the ability to fly and her flight is not inhibited by virtually anything except emotional damage, and she can reach speeds up to 800 mph while airborne.
She releases pure bolts of energy from her eyes and hands that ignite flames as well as act as a great force upon their target, almost like lightning striking. These bolts can be stifled by restraints made of materials above a melting point of 2,800 degrees Fahrenheit, such as iron.
Her powers of flight, strength, and energy bolts all rely heavily on emotion; use psychological warfare to hinder her abilities and gain the upper hand
Her older sister Komand’r / Blackfire has malicious intent and is not an ally. She has the same set of abilities as her sister.
Conclusion: Keep under surveillance. Her romantic attachments to Nightwing will most likely keep her on the side of good, but, should she turn, use the Gordanian restraints (located in sector C, room 16) and strong sedative, possibly employing the Citadelian shock collar (located in sector C, room 17) )if necessary. Extended one-on-one combat with no outside help will most likely result in a defeat. A possible future threat.
Danger rating: 7
There were photos of her in casual civilian clothing, one in her most recent uniform, a newspaper clipping from an article when she crash landed on earth. A photo of her with her eyes and hands lit with starbolts, her face twisted with rage, teeth bared. A photo of her and Dick, his arm around her shoulders, the two of them smiling brightly at the camera. A photo of her asleep on the couch, adorably twisted up in blankets, a photo that Dick knew he took, a photo he never shared with Bruce.
Dick looked up from the folder, up into her pearlescent green eyes, watery with tears that were already slipping down her face. He tried to reach for her, comfort her, softly saying, “Kory-”
But as soon as his hand lifted, she stepped back, clutching the shackles to her chest, her shoulders now shaking as well, “Tell me what this is right now.”
Dick dropped his hand, sighing, “It’s Bruce’s. He keeps a list of everyone that is or was a threat or who he thinks could be,” he shakes his head, “He wouldn’t let me tell you Kory, just know it’s nothing that you did. He’s paranoid, it’s just who he is. Besides, I had no idea he had a file on you .”
“Having a plan is one thing, but this, ” Kory held up the shackles in shaking hands, “This has haunted me for the past five years. This isn’t a precaution, this is a plan. I-I…”
Dick stepped forward, taking her hands in his, setting the shackles and folder aside, “Kory, listen. No one is going to hurt you or take you away or lock you up, I would never let that happen, you know that.”
“But Bruce is...H-he’s your-” She squeezed her eyes shut, willing the tears to stop.
Dick wrapped his arms around her, cradling her head to his shoulder, “He’s who he is and I can’t change that. But I love you, Kory. I wouldn’t last a day without you.”
She leaned against him, clinging to the back of his shirt, and took a shuddering breath, “I can never go back to that life, Richard. Not ever again. I-I…” Trailing off, she buried her face in his shoulder, “I can’t”
“And you won’t,” He was firm in tone but soft in the way he ran his fingers through her hair, “I swear.”
Kory sobbed into his shirt, shaking like a leaf as Dick tried to calm her down.
A long moment settled between them and Kory pulled herself back, looking back over at the shackles, “Where did he even get those?”
The look on her face told Dick she was imagining the worst, but Dick cautiously explained, “They’re the ones you were held in when you crashed here. The police had them salvaged and locked up for safe keeping and...I guess Bruce got his hands on them.”
“But, I practically destroyed them. And now they look perfectly functional.”
“He probably fixed them as best as he could,” he tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear,” Look, Kory, just because he kept them doesn’t mean he was planning on using them exclusively on you. Alien handcuffs would be pretty useful in some of the situations he finds himself in.”
Her nod was unsure, but she leaned against him again and sighed, “There’s one other thing.”
Dick waited for her to continue, resuming stroking her hair.
“The file said something about the Citadelian dotrik’a. He called it a shock collar, but that’s not really what it is. I wasn’t imprisoned in one of those when I arrived here. How did he get that?”
There really was no good explanation for that, and the weight of the silence was crushing. Dick looked up at the ceiling, then back down at her, “I don’t know.”
The conversation, if you could call it that, that Dick had with Bruce over this was unsurprisingly brief. He told Bruce how fucked up it was that he was keeping tabs on his girlfriend as if she were a dangerous criminal and that he held onto the alien restraints just in case she went haywire. Bruce just looked at him with that slightly bored expression and told him some bullshit about being prepared and looks being deceiving and he was all but kicked out of his study.
Dick was used to that by now, the impassive figure Bruce turned himself into at times.
Kory, however, was not.
She had curled up in the bed they were sharing in the manor, surrounded by a large comforter, watching a hockey game, but the glazed look in her eye told Dick that she wasn’t really watching. Her hair framed her face and poured down her back and she sniffed occasionally, obviously still recovering from her crying from earlier.
Dick sat down next to her, rubbing her arm, “Hey.”
She didn’t respond, and Dick didn’t blame her. He just pulled the blanket in such a way that he could get underneath the covers with her, pulling her to his chest and wrapping her up in his arms.
The sports commentators were shouting when Kory said, “I’m sorry.”
He pressed a kiss to her temple, “There’s no reason to be, you did nothing wrong.”
“He doesn’t trust me.”
“He barely trusts me, Kory. There’s nothing anyone can do about it.”
“I just…” she sighed, moving so she could look up at him, “I just wish he liked me, you know?”
“Babe, of course he likes you. He just doesn’t say so or do anything whatsoever to indicate that he does,” he kissed her forehead again, “He’s difficult.”
Kory snorted, rolling her eyes, and Dick laughed, “I know, I know, understatement of the century,” the smile faded, “Just, trust me. If he didn’t like you, it would be a lot more obvious. Besides, what he thinks doesn’t matter. I like you a whole lot”
She nodded, a smile warming up her face, “Mmhmm.”
“I do!”
She laughed, hiding her face in his chest as he laughed too, the two of them pressed together completely. They cuddled up together, Kory relaxing considerably in his arms, and Dick pressed kisses into her hair, “ A lot a lot. I like-like you.”
“I like-like you too.”
Dick grinned, kissing her hair again.
Bruce didn’t say anything when all the papers in her file were mysteriously misplaced and when the shackles and the “shock collar” were suddenly broken beyond repair. There was a fresh new sheet of paper in the file, stating simply these words:
Warrior, ally, best friend, and soulmate.

RobStar Week 2017 - Day 2
Day 2 – Arrival (Teen Tyrants)
Dark energy arched around a small cylindrical room, runes of unimaginable complexity and intricacy were drawn into the ground in a blood red chalk. In the centre of the room sat a small shrine with a collection of items of different magical symbolism were seated on small plinths surrounding the shrine, dark energy connecting from them to the centre shrine. A few feet above the shrine hovered a sorceress cloaked in red, the energy from the shrine seeped into her body as she channelled her power. Her vibrant magenta hair contrasted majorly with her grey skin tone, her eyes were closed in concentration as she tried to pinpoint the source of a small ripple she had felt throughout reality, it was a tiny, miniscule event like a single rain droplet hitting a lake but she had felt it and the energy surrounding it seemed familiar. Repeating her mantra she felt herself approaching the energy spike and a few moments later she had found what she had been searching for, a tower, their tower.
Unclasping her communicator from her belt she held it to her mouth, “Hey dipshits! Come to the shrine I’ve got something” in a few short moments the dark, twisted team had assembled.
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Red Robin, Red Raven and Blackfire had been the first members of the team, they had all met when Blackfire had landed on Earth in an attempt to hide from the Centauri police for her numerous crimes throughout the Vega system. With the help from her two new teammates she had slaughtered the entire armada of troops that had come to try and capture her.
Blackfire had been born as Koriand’r, princess of Tamaran but due to a rare gene defect she had been born with black hair as opposed to both her red headed parents and even her brother. Because of this she had been given the nickname of Blackfire by her parents, many saw her black hair as being a sign that she was weak and inferior to the rest of her family. That mistake would cost Tamaran dearly when she willingly allowed the Citadel to invade her home planet and even took the liberty of burning the royal palace to the ground herself, Tamaran was nothing more than a wasteland when she left. Her previous capture by the Psions had granted her enough power to rival anything in the galaxy that would challenge her.
Red Robin had once been the protégé of the infamous Batman of Gotham, after being adopted by the billionaire Bruce Wayne he had learned his secret, Dick Grayson joined the caped crusader as Robin to memorialise the loss of his parents. However, over the years the crime in Gotham had gotten to Dick, nothing him or Batman ever did had any real effect. Any criminals they arrested would break out and they would have to re-capture them over and over again in an endless cycle. Dick had finally snapped when his adopted brother Jason Todd had been murdered by Batman’s most infamous villain ‘The Joker’, the pair had both been devastated by his loss but Bruce refused to take action, Dick had pleaded with him to kill The Joker and put an end to this but Bruce had refused. Acting out of grief and revenge, one night Dick had tracked down the Joker and killed him using the same crowbar that had been used to take Jason’s life. That moment had caused the last remnants of the teenager’s sanity to crack and splinter, secretly rigging explosive charges all throughout the Bat Cave, Dick bade farewell to his former mentor and father figure in an explosion so big it could be seen across Gotham. He didn’t need a mentor, what he needed was a team.
Red Raven had been born in the realm of Azarath, as she grew up she discovered the truth that the cosmic demon Trigon was her father. She became obsessed with understanding her demonic lineage and what power she could ascertain from it, one night during her studies the ethereal form of Trigon had appeared to her offering her unlimited power at his side. Being so young she accepted his offer without question and he had fulfilled his end of the bargain, granting her power that almost rivalled his own. In exchange Trigon was able to manifest and destroy Azarath, witnessing her world and her family obliterated by her own selfish action caused the young demoness to lose her mind, seeing Trigon as her only remaining family she pledged her loyalty to him. Trigon explained that using her powers she could open portals to other parallel worlds, and in connection to that he offered her another proposition; for every world she allowed him to conquer he would bestow upon her even greater power. It was an offer she could not accept quick enough.
Tempest and Arsenal we’re newer additions to the team, they were a few years older than any of the other members but still loyal and respectful of their leader. Tempest had once been Aqualad, protégé of Aquaman, after hearing plans from Black Manta and Aquaman to destroy the surface world in order to ensure Atlantis’ safety Tempest became concerned. He had visited the surface world numerous times and realised how much it had to offer, why destroy it when instead the world could just be conquered piece by piece? Killing Aquaman, Tempest convinced Black Manta of his plans and the two began their plan, slowly taking over small towns and cities under the name of Atlantis. The US government had decided that starting a war with Atlantis could be devastating and so allowed the Atlanteans their new land. After realising that Red Robin’s team had similar aspirations he aligned himself with them, under the name ‘Tempest’ because of the impending storm of Atlantis that would one day claim the world. Arsenal’s beginning was not unlike that of Red Robin, he had originally served Green Arrow as his sidekick Speedy but after seeing first hand Oliver Queen’s unwillingness to put an end to a problem he decided to rebel, taking up the alias of ‘Arsenal’ he began secretly working against his mentor, taking out criminals himself his own way with lethal force. Eventually Green Arrow encountered this ‘Arsenal’ and upon realising that this villain was his partner he found himself to shocked to react, tragically this pause gave Arsenal the perfect opportunity to strike. Putting an arrow straight through the eye of his former mentor, before leaving to make his own way in the world. Discovering that with the Teen Tyrants he found a place to call home in the ruthlessness of the group.
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
“What is it?” Red Robin asked
“I have located the universe home to those pests, the ‘Teen Titans’” holding up a golden, bejewelled hand mirror the group watched as the screen changed to a picture of the counterpart team they had been defeated by.
Tempest snarled but quickly his face changed to a sickening smirk, “I’ve been looking forward to tearing that android apart”
Arsenal patted his friend on the shoulder with his own sadistic smile, “The green kid is mine…I’m gonna put an arrow through his head”
“My knock off is mine and mine alone” The dark haired Tamaranean commanded, after the discovery that the shapeshifter Gemini had been posing as Blackfire, the Tyrants had managed to track down where their alien powerhouse was being held and rescued her.
Putting his arm around his girlfriend’s waist he smirked, “Same goes for me, Robin is mine”
“Then I’ve got the other me” Red Raven added with a grin, “anyone got a problem with that?” The others smirked as they shook their heads, “opening the portal” she stated as she channelled her energy into her mirror, within moments a breach appeared.
Red Robin stepped forward to lead the charge, “Teen Tyrants!” he paused, a sadistic grin forming on his face “tear them apart”
The receiving end of the breach appeared in a street in the middle of the city, stepping through the team looked around to see Titans Tower off in the distance. “We’re miles away!” Tempest complained
“I’d like to you see you try and navigate a wormhole, fuckhead!” Red Raven replied angrily
“I wished to destroy their tower first, that would leave them with no place to hide!” Blackfire commented irritably
Red Robin stepped over to Blackfire and placed his hand against her face, “Be calm, my love. We’ll just destroy their city for a while until they get the message, then once we kill them…we can destroy their tower”
An intrigued smile formed on her face and she kissed the back of his hand affectionately, “I love it when you talk dirty to me” she replied with a purr.
“We could even claim their tower as our own…keep a portal open between realms and rule both worlds!” his voice sadistic and enticing
Blackfire threw herself at her boyfriend, wrapping her legs around his waist and clamping her lips to his hungrily, she moaned as he responded just as eagerly to her. Within moments their hands were all over each other, his under her top and hers snaking their way down to his pants.
Arsenal spoke up causing the couple to separate “Hey! Can you two save the fucking till we’re done here? I wanna kill some Titans!”
The demented couple smirked at their equally demented team-mate, “Killing them will make it even sweeter” Red Robin whispered into her ear, soliciting a shiver from her.
“Then let us make this quick” Blackfire replied, holding out her fist she charged a large purple starbolt and aimed it at a nearby car. Once the bolt had engulfed her fist she released it and it hurtled at the car, causing a deafening explosion. The sounds of civilian’s screaming nearby garnered a grin from the group. “This city shall fear it’s new rulers!”
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Robin huffed a sigh of boredom as he flicked through countless channels finding nothing of interest to watch. “How can there be hundreds of channels and still nothing decent to watch?” he muttered sadly.
Starfire, who was currently curled into his side with her head resting on the inside of his shoulder, gave him a sympathetic look. “Perhaps we could go up to the roof and look out at the city for a while?”
“And see what?” he replied sarcastically. He caught himself as he spoke and he smiled apologetically at the slightly hurt face of his girlfriend. “sorry…I didn’t mean that sweetheart…It’s just that-“
“You are bored” she finished for him, snuggling closer to him
“Yeah, and I get a bit antsy when I’m bored. We haven’t had an alert in over a week”
She pondered his choice of words for a moment, “You feel like an ant?”
“No, not like a literal ant” he replied with a chuckle, kissing her forehead “I mean I get a bit irritable when I’m bored”
“Ohh” she replied in understanding, “at least we have had more time to spend together”
“That’s true” he replied with an affectionate smile, “I love you, Kori”
“I am certain that I love you more, Richard” she challenged, lovingly
The sound of the alarm caused the couple to leap up in surprise, almost knocking each other to the ground. They looked around in shock, it took them a few moments to even remember what the alert was since it was been so long since they last heard it. Cyborg rushed into the main room and over to the control panel, he read the screen “Huh?!” he asked surprised.
Beast Boy and Raven soon filed into the room and the 4 attempted to read the panel over Cyborg’s shoulder, “What’s wrong? What’s the alert?” Robin asked confused
“It says, ‘Teen Titans attacking Jump City’” Cyborg read aloud
“What?!” Beast Boy asked in shock, “what does that mean, we’re all right here!”
Cyborg typed quickly into the keyboard and pulled up a video feed from one of the traffic cameras in the city. The 5 Titans gasped simultaneously as they saw their dark doppelgangers destroying cars and buildings around them. “Those guys again!?” Beast Boy asked panicked.
“They’re destroying stuff to try and get our attention”
“Well, they certainly have it” Cyborg replied with a gulp
“We need a plan, they were strong last time we fought them so we need to be prepared for them” Robin declared
Starfire concentrated on the video and noticed her doppelganger, “But I thought Blackfire was a spy working against them?”
“Maybe that’s the real Blackfire, Gemini was probably just impersonating her whilst the real Blackfire was somewhere else” Raven replied
“Well that means that they’re even stronger now” Robin declared with a sigh
“Evil Raven was the problem last time, she was really strong. We could deal with the others” Beast Boy commented
“Then we should focus our attention on her first, deal with her and then take out the others” Cyborg strategized
“Good plan. If Blackfire is as strong as Starfire then she should also be a main target, once they’re both down we can deal with the rest” Robin elaborated.
“Then myself and Raven will focus each of our counterparts together” Starfire added
“Red Raven shouldn’t be able to take out both me and Starfire together” Raven said with a nod to Starfire.
“Okay, that’s our plan then. Everyone ready?” Robin asked
The rest of the team nodded confidently, “Those chumps aren’t gonna know what hit em” Beast Boy added with a smirk.
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Blackfire smiled manically as she threw countless starbolts at the windows of buildings, watching the glass shatter and splinter as it hit the ground. People screamed for help from inside, begging for the attack to stop but it only spurred the demented Tamaranean further. Red Robin watched from the side, grinning at the power of his beloved, cheering for her as shops began to collapse from the barrage of blasts they had received. Shock filled his face as he saw a green starbolt collide with his girlfriend, causing her to stagger back a few feet.
“You will not harm anyone else!” the red haired Tamaranean yelled
Blackfire looked up from the ground and smirked in intrigue at her doppelganger, “Hello other me”
Starfire grimaced, “You will stop this Komand’r!”
Blackfire growled, “My name is Koriand’r!”
There was too many questions Starfire wanted to ask of her other self, “Regardless of whoever you are I will stop you!”
“Good luck” the dark-haired girl replied with a sickly-sweet mocking voice
Starfire growled, about ready to invert the other girl’s face with her fist until she spotted Red Raven landing next to her Tamaranean team mate. Turning to her friends, Starfire nodded at Raven as a signal and the two girls charged the red cloaked demoness, bolting past her doppelganger Starfire hurled a barrage of Starbolts at the girl forcing her to raise her shield in defence. With the distraction, Raven teleported behind Red Raven and focused a blast hitting her square in her back, Red Raven yowled in pain as she turned to block the other sorceress which in turn gave Starfire an opening.
“They’re trying to pick us off” Red Raven yelled to which Blackfire bolted in the sky to defend her team-mate. Raven attempted to grab hold of the Tamaranean with her powers but Blackfire was accelerating too fast to get a hold of.
“Watch out!” Raven called to Starfire
Blackfire grinned widely as she neared her doppelganger, she dodged the few starbolts being thrown at her with ease and angled her fist to hopefully break a few bones when her fist landed. However two of the starbolts collided in front of her causing a small puff of smoke to temporarily block her vision. When the smoke finally cleared her eyes went wide as her face was met with devastating punch from Starfire. Time seemed to stop for a second as her fist impacted and the force caused a visible shockwave to spread across the sky, and then in what was less than a few seconds the dark-haired girl had smashed into the ground, unconscious.
Red Robin watched his girlfriend plummet out of the sky and quickly ran to her side, “Kori!” he yelled in a panic.
Robin felt something stir within him, looking at his doppelganger he could see so many differences between them, his appearance, his mannerisms and most of all his attitude. But hearing the fear in his voice as he called out his beloved’s name definitely resonated within Robin as well. Because of this he ordered Beast Boy and Cyborg to hold off attacking Red Robin for a moment whilst he examined his injured girlfriend. Robin walked towards him, stopping about 20 feet in front of him and watching the worry filled face of the villain, “I’m giving you a chance, get her help, leave and don’t come back”
“I’d take his offer, man. Else you’re gonna end up in the same state as her” Cyborg added
Red Robin looked up at them and glared, “You’ve done this to her, you’re gonna pay for it!” he screamed. Pulling out his bo-staff, he pressed a small button and a blade popped out of each end of the staff, “You’re gonna die… Arsenal, Tempest…tear em apart!” he commanded.
Arsenal and Tempest nodded with a smirk, each stalking towards Cyborg and Beast Boy leaving Red Robin to his battle.
Retracting his own staff Robin sighed, “You shouldn’t have come here” he charged Red Robin slamming his staff against his causing the red-cladded boy to be forced backwards as he blocked the attack. Taking his own swings, he found them to be easily parried and blocked, smacking his bo-staff into Red Robin’s shin the boy growled in pain. The two of them we’re pretty evenly matched but Robin had discovered his opponents flaw, his aggression, he spent too much time on the offense and not enough time on defence. Because of this Robin only had to block his opponents hits and then he could easily counter with his own, landing blow after blow on his opponent. “Your team relies on fear…you try and scare your enemies…but you don’t scare me”
“You will be scared” Red Robin growled, “we’re going to kill your little friends whilst you watch... Starfire will be the first you’ll have to watch die”
Robin growled, “You think your threats frighten me? You’re just as weak as I am, Blackfire makes you weak just as Starfire makes me weak”
“No!” Red Robin growled attempting to block Robin’s onslaught but failing, causing him to receive a hard blow to the stomach.
“You’re scared of losing her, just like I am” Robin added, swinging his bo-staff around he smacked it into his opponent’s back, forcing him to his knees. “It’s over, she needs help…so I’m going to offer you another chance…take her, leave…and never come back”
Red Robin snarled at his counterpart but looking back at his unconscious girlfriend he softened slightly and pulled out his communicator from his belt “Red Raven, Blackfire’s injured I need a portal back”
“You’re retreating?” the red sorceress asked angrily
“She’s badly hurt, open one. That’s an order!” Red Robin commanded, his voice breaking slightly from embarrassment
Red Raven dipped out of the sky to avoid Starfire and Raven’s attacks and briefly focusing her energy she re-opened the breach they used to enter.
“If you ever come back, I’ll make sure there won’t be a way home for you…or the others” Robin said in a deep threatening voice.
Red Robin walked over to Blackfire and lifted her body up bridal style, before stepping through the portal.
Hearing a series of shouts from behind him Robin dashed off to help Beast Boy and Cyborg.
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Up in the clouds Starfire and Raven zipped around like fighter jets focusing their blasts on Red Raven, the demoness desperately attempted to fight back but every action left her open to their attacks. Growling in irritation she channelled her powers at Starfire, managing to conjure a sleep spell, because of her rush she only managed to put her to sleep for 2 minutes but it was enough to begin her offense once more. Raven dove after Starfire’s plummeting form, catching her with her energy and gently floating her down to the ground. However, this gave Red Raven ample time to recover and she began attacking full force against Raven, a blast of red energy hit hard against Raven’s chest causing her to topple backwards a considerable distance and fall beneath the clouds. When Raven managed to climb back up above the clouds her eyes grew wide in horror as she saw the demoness pulling an object towards the city. A full sized, full capacity commercial airline, was being pulled from the sky and being guided down towards the heart of the city. Using all of her might Raven gripped the plane attempting to hold it still, but she could feel her grip slipping as Red Raven used more and more of her power. Raven could feel herself being drained by the massive power usage and she was beginning to succumb, suddenly the plane left his nose dive and began to tilt back towards the cloud. Raven gave a shocked gasp as she saw Starfire single-handedly tilting the plane back up to the correct angle. Letting go of her hold of the plane she took hold of Red Raven and tossed her at high velocity into the pavement below. Giving a look of relief to Starfire the two lifted the plane back above the clouds and back onto its flight path.
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
It didn’t take long for the 3 Titans to overpower the 2 Tyrants, Arsenal required range to fire any of his arrows and so Beast Boy wrapping around him as a Boa Constrictor removed any chance he once had at attacking. At the same time Cyborg and Robin focused their attack on Tempest, his water abilities proved hard to counter at first but the Atlantean had underestimated the power of Robin’s belt, swirling a vortex of water around himself he attempted to use it as a shield but a small cryo-capsule colliding with the vortex froze it solid instantly as well as the Atlantean inside of it, a single blast from Cyborg’s canon left both the Tyrants unconscious. Walking over and tossing the unconscious pair through the portal, the 3 smiled as they saw Starfire and Raven land next to them, “Red Raven?” Robin asked
Starfire gestured to the incapacitated girl over her shoulder, dropping her next to the portal they all grinned at the defeated look on her face “Your team has been defeated I suggest you lea-”
Starfire was cut off as what sounded like fast approaching footsteps came from the other side of the portal, Red Raven’s eyes widened in terror. “No!” she begged, the sound seemed to only get louder “No! Please!” she continued to beg as she backed away from the portal.
The Titans looked at her unnerved, “Is something else comi-“ Robin asked but before he could finish speaking a black and blue blur blasted through the portal and instantaneously had Red Raven by the throat. She choked and gurgled as she tried to pull it’s hand off her throat but her injuries had left her energy drained.
“You have failed me…yet again” a demonic gravelly voice spoke from the demon-looking creature.
“No…only the others did” she pleaded, still attempting to struggle
It turned around and looked over the Titans, it’s face resembling that of death, piercing black eyes looked at the group with intrigue before returning to its captive “You were defeated by inferior versions of yourselves…how embarrassing”
“Who are you?” Raven asked
The creature turned to look at them once more, dropping Red Raven to the floor and fully turning to face them. It’s suit similarly resembled that of the flash, even having the lightning bolt symbol on the chest but the normal vibrant red had been replaced by a pitch-black hue. It’s mask resembled some sort of execution mask, even having the slits in the mouth piece to allow breathing. Small sparks of blue lightning arced around the dark speedster to signify its power. Stepping towards the group they all continued to look unnerved by its presence, in less than a second it had zipped over to Robin and hoisted him up by his shirt, glaring into his eyes it laughed “You are their leader, how did you win?”
“Who are you?” Raven asked again, growing irritated
“Zoom” it replied as if its name was some prestigious title
“Put him down!” Starfire commanded stepping up to the speedster
It chuckled in its low and gravelly voice, letting go of Robin it stepped over to Starfire and pushed its face down to be level with Starfire’s “Or…what?” it asked her “what could any of you do to me?”
A small blast in its back caused the speedster to stagger forwards, it turned around angrily and looked at the terrified face of Red Raven. “I’m powerful enough to fight you” she said, her confidence failing
It laughed once more “No…” zipping forwards it lifted her up once more “…you’re not” it finished ramming it’s vibrating hand into her chest. The Titans watched in horror as the life drained from the struggling girl’s eyes and then just as quickly Zoom tossed the girl’s body through the breach.
“If they cannot kill you… then I will” Zoom declared
Robin reached down to his belt and pressed a small button, in less than 5 seconds a yellow blur arrived behind Zoom
“I don’t know who you are but you missed Halloween by a few months buddy” Kid Flash said mockingly
Zoom turned at an unnaturally fast speed, “Wallace West”
The mocking look disappeared from Kid Flash’s face, “I don’t know how you know that but you’re going down regardless” charging the black suited speedster with a punch he found his hand caught in mid-air before he had even properly thrown it. Trying again with a barrage of punches, Zoom caught every single one with the palm of one of his hands. Wally became unnerved and sprinted around the speedster attempting to find a weak point that he could land hits but he found himself terrified as Zoom was turning in perfect time so that his eyes always lined up with Wally’s. Breaking out of his circle Wally dashed down the street further in the city.
Zoom laughed maniacally as he bolted after the yellow suited speedster, he was toying with Wally like how a cat toys with it’s prey before it kills it. Zoom would always stay a few feet behind him regardless of his superior speed, Wally began taking sharp turns down roads and even running along the side of a building to attempt to tire the speed demon out but Zoom matched his pace no matter the circumstance. Eventually Zoom sped up and ran alongside Wally grinning at the weaker speedster. Wally could feel himself beginning to tire and he stopped in the back alley of a street, “What do you want?” he asked, exhausted.
“A challenge” Zoom spoke with a laugh
“You already know you’re faster than me…” Wally replied weakly
“I am faster than you, but you can be much faster”
“You’re wrong?...I haven’t got any fast in years…”
“It’s because you hold yourself back, you are holding yourself back from power”
“You don’t know me!” Wally screamed
Zoom laughed deeply, “I know you very well”, reaching behind his head and pulling the leather mask from his face he grinned at Wally.
Wally stared in horror at the face in front of him…his own face, a few years older but still so much alike “H-how?”
“I embraced my power…you squander it to be part of a team” Zoom replied
“I use my power to help people! To help Barry!” Wally replied indignantly
“And what reward do you get for this help? Most the world labels you as a vigilante. Barry Allen is weak…he is faster than you but he too squanders his abilities, using his powers he could have been a god but he chose not to. That’s why in my world I took that opportunity from him”
Wally looked horrified, “You-you killed him?”
“I discovered an ability, one that even surpasses Barry. The ability to drain others of their speed”
“So…you stole Barry’s speed?” Wally asked in shock
“I drained him of every ounce of speed-force in his body…leaving him as a statue. A fate worse than death most would assume” Zoom replied, his tone made it sound like it was a fond memory he was recalling.
“You’re a monster!” Wally screamed
“And you could be one as well” Zoom replied with a sickening smirk, “I can show you how to siphon speed, to give yourself immense power”
“Draining an innocent person of their speed-force…Barry was a good man and you killed him. I would never listen to a monster like you…”
Zoom grew angry, snarling at Wally “I have been to many Earths, met many other Wally Wests and drained them of their speed as well…are you sure you want to be the next?”
“I’d rather die than be like you” Wally spat
Zoom put his mask back on and glared at his younger doppelganger, “So be it”
Wally bolted as fast as he could along any streets, Zoom following close behind him, cackling every time he would catch up to Wally. Wally tried to focus, he needed to think of a plan he could call Barry but if Zoom was able to beat the Barry Allen of his earth then Wally couldn’t risk him draining this Earth’s Flash. He could hear his communicator ringing and he tapped a small button near his ear, “Robin”
“Are you okay?” Robin asked concerned, “Is Zoom still after you?”
“Yeah” Wally replied anxiously, “he can drain speed-force”
“Oh god” Robin replied miserably
“Can Raven channel knockout spell on him or something?” Wally asked desperatley
“Yes, but he would need to be distracted and standing still” Robin answered for Raven
“Okay, get her to come to the corner of Charles St. I’m gonna try and distract him”
“On it” Robin replied quickly
Picking up the pace, he was glad that Zoom was still attempting to toy with him. Seeing Charles St he bolted towards the corner and pretended to trip over the curb causing him to stumble to the ground. Grabbing his foot, he held as if he had broken his ankle “Ahh” he screamed in pain
Zoom slowed down and began to stalk around Wally like a lion stalking about a wounded zebra, finally the dark speedster stopped and squatted down next to him “So weak…I see now why you couldn’t be like me…I am an exception in the multiverse” as he continued to mock the injured Wally, Raven stood on a rooftop nearby casting her incantation on him. He felt himself being overtook by exhaustion and he struggled to stay awake, Raven continued to chant the spell as much as she could whilst the dark speedster continued to fight it. A speedster’s healing properties and metabolism meant that he was recovering from the infliction even whilst she was casting it, he spotted her and laughed “It won’t stop me!” he shouted.
Wally climbed to his feet and stood in front of Zoom, “It doesn’t need to stop you…just to slow you down” Wally focused his energy and began to run around Zoom in a counter clockwise formation, after a few moments the blue lightning from Zoom began to arc to Wally’s body and each bolt caused his speed to increase. Zoom screamed in anguish as he felt his speed being siphoned quickly away from him, attempting to stop Wally he reached his arm out forwards to grab it but soon the arm remained stationery, just as the rest of Zoom’s body was. After a few more moments Wally stopped and collapsed to the ground in exhaustion, he felt like a monster for what he had done but in his head, he knew it’s what he needed to do. That monster had to be stopped…
“Wally” Robin shouted as Starfire carried him to his friend, “are you alright?” he asked immediately
“Yeah” Wally replied sadly
“What did you to him?” Robin asked in confusion as he looked at the statue like pose of Zoom
“I discovered I can drain speed-force, so I drained his to stop him” Wally answered, his tone still guilty
“You had to stop him somehow” Robin replied supportively, “how did you know that you could drain speed-force?”
“Because he can…” Wally replied, climbing to his feet he walked over to Zoom and pulled the leather mask from his face.
The other Titans stood in shock as they looked at their friend’s doppelganger, “You’re Zoom?” Beast Boy asked nervously
“A version of me…he killed Barry and stole his speed, that’s how he was so fast”
“If you have siphoned off Zoom’s speed…does that mean it is yours now, Wally?” Starfire asked
“I guess so…I do feel faster. Maybe I should tell Barry about this whole ‘siphoning power’ thing, I think he’d wanna know about it”
“Is he still alive?” Raven asked, examining Zoom
“I don’t know, Zoom said it was a ‘fate worse than death’…I think he might be still alive…” Wally replied
“Then it is a fate well deserved for his actions” Starfire declared, “if he has done this to others then this shall be his punishment”
“What are we gonna do with him? I mean like, what if he gets out of there somehow?” Cyborg asked anxiously
“Throw him back through the portal…the Tyrants can deal with him if he ever gets out” Robin answered, turning to Raven “Is there any way you could stop them from coming back here again? Like take this universe off the map or something?”
“I might be able to create barriers to block off our universe. I think I’ll block of theirs as well…just to be safe” she replied with a small smile.
The End
TTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT
Author’s Notes:
Another exceedingly long story, I’ve been wanting to write this for almost a year now and with today being Tyrant themed I thought it was a perfect time to do so.
Really hope you enjoyed it!

Headcanon Time - Language
It’s time for another headcanon! This time, it’ll be focused on my headcanons and thoughts about (my self-made-up version of) the tamaranean language, and it’s uses and commonness.
They claim that the language is too simple for other species to understand without first ‘lowering themselves’ enough to be able to work with such simplicity; however, this of course isn’t true and the language is no less or more complicated than any other language you’d pick.
‘Arr-’ means ‘to fear’, or ‘to be afraid’, something like that
‘Shoi-’ means ‘to shoot’
‘War-’ means ‘to wait’
‘Hiteck-’ means ‘to hide’
‘Nik-’ is ‘to take’ as in grabbing
‘Kno-’ is ‘to know’
‘Stol-’ is ‘to stop’
‘Br-‘ is ‘to be’, but the forms here aren’t as regular as most of the other verbs.
I believe this should give enough examples (I actually doubt anyone is really interested in the list of words I gave down here), and that’s also all I have to say to their language!

Stay With Me: Dickkory
He had asked her to stay a number of times during their relationship. Until one day she couldn’t.
“Stay with me, then,” Dick offered with a shrug. He slurped the rest of his chocolate milkshake up, and patiently waited for her response.
She stared down at her two finished strawberry milkshakes (the first two of many to come), and smiled shyly. “With you? In your home? Robin, you are very kind to me, but I would not like to do the imposing. You did express that your living in Jump was a sign of freedom and rebellion from your master, is it not?”
He didn’t really like the way she used master. He had merely said that he was free of his father, not that he had to buy his way out of slavery or something. If only it were that easy.
“Erm, yeah, I did say that, didn’t I?” He scratched the back of his neck. “I meant that I just didn’t want to study with my dear, old dad anymore. It’s not some sort of emancipation.”
She looked thoroughly confused now. (It was kind of cute.)
“I mean--gah.” He leaned back on the vinyl chairs of the cafe, trying to find the best way to word his proposal. “Living alone and fighting crime alone can get boring. I need a companion--a friend.”
She lit up at that. Apparently friend had the some connotations on Tamaran as it did on Earth. “The crime fighting? I can do that! I will work my hardest to ensure that I am useful.”
“Great, great,” he said. He smiled back at her. “Maybe we can invite the others to join us. I know Beast Boy and Cyborg haven’t exactly been living the lavish life here... You know, I think Raven’s new to the planet too. She might be able to help you around a bit.”
“I would like that very much.”
“Stay with me, Star,” he said, pulling her waist towards him, effectively trapping her in his arms.
“Richard!” Kory exclaimed, swatting his hands. She made very little effort to pull them off, though. “We shall be late to Babs’ party if you do not let me go!”
She adequately emphasized her last words by thwacking him with a pillow at every syllable. When his vision finally cleared the black spots, he gave her a puppy dog frown.
“Aw, c’mon, Star,” he pouted. He buried his head into her smooth back. “I just want to cuddle.”
"We may do the cuddling at the party. I am positive there will be several empty rooms at the new house.”
Dick scoffed. “Empty rooms I’m sure she’s locked.” To keep lust-led fools like him out. “And I very much doubt that Babs won’t notice us sneak off!”
Kory dragged herself (with Dick still attached) to the edge of the bed. “Then she will certainly notice our absence when we arrive late!”
Dick groaned when Kory stood up and pulled him over the edge. He didn’t feel like getting up and the floor of his apartment bedroom seemed rather clean (Alfred had drilled the habit of cleaning into him).
It started a few months ago. Dick and Kory. Or Starfire and Nightwing. The lines were rather blurred. (He almost always called her Starfire at home, though.)
It was all lust and passion but then it was all love and warmth and now it’s all late mornings and breakfast in bed. He’s known her for the past eight years. He wants more.
“Stay with me, love,” Dick urged.
His wife of exactly one year and three months was having quite a bit of trouble keeping her eyes open.
“Dick... I do not like this.” She clenched her eyes shut and screamed. It broke his heart.
“Keep it coming, Mrs. Grayson, you’re doing spectacular,” said the midwife. “Push, push, push... Now, pushpushpushpushpush.”
Kory screamed again and almost broke Dick’s hand in the process. He winced.
He had read multiple pregnancy books late at night while Kory was sleeping, and every single one of them said that giving birth was probably the most painful experience a mother will go through in her lifetime. Seeing as Kory has been a superhero for the better part of her life, Dick really hoped it wasn’t true for her.
The sound of wailing (an enfant’s wailing, not his wife’s) brought his attention back to the matter at hand. Holy shit.
“Mr. and Mrs. Grayson, I am proud to announce the successful birth of a beautiful baby girl...”
“Stay with me, please,” he begged.
His lungs weren’t working properly. Neither were his eyes. And apparently, neither was his heart (how he knew, he wasn’t sure. He had given it away long ago).
His arms wouldn’t move to trap her in them. His lips wouldn’t move to tell the visiting Tamaranians to back the fuck off, please. His legs wouldn’t move to run away from it all.
“Nightwing...” she wouldn’t meet his eyes. Which was fine, it wasn’t as if he could see much behind his tears. “Nightwing... please do not ask me that.”
“I can’t ask the mother of my child to stay? My wife?” he ground out. He was being selfish and he knew it. Begging and bullying wouldn’t work, but they had to. Simply had to.
“Please do not.” She gripped his forearms as tightly as he gripped her waist. “You know I cannot stay. Please, Nightwing, you know as well I do.”
And he did. The last Princess of Tamaran was being called back to her planet to lead them in a war against some neighbouring planet. The Enour’kai. He knew she would also fiercely protect her people just as she would Mar’i. He knew that even if she didn’t want to go, the Tamaranian generals standing at his side would drag her away anyways.
“I will return soon. I do the promising of this, my love,” she whispered.
She pressed her lips to his in finality and let go of him. She walked to the travel pod; his heart was flying away.
He turned to the generals menacingly. “If she doesn’t come back just as she left, you'll both regret being born,” he said in Tamaranian.
They nodded. “Affirmative, sir.”
“Stay with me, darling,” he said lightly.
He offered his hand to his flying companion and she grabbed it, using it as an anchor to bring her closer to him. Don’t stray now, please.
It turned out that Tamaran was full of liars.
The Tamaranian generals did not keep their promise. They were dead now, but if they weren’t, Dick would’ve ripped them from top to bottom. Viciously.
Even Tamaran’s princess, the wise and beautiful Koriand’r, was a liar. She promised she would return soon. The war had lasted for four Earthen years, three of which he did not have any communication with his wife.
But she survived it. The peace treaty signed, the dues paid, the bodies burned. He had received a letter that the princess was making a formal visit to his planet, which really just meant she was coming home.
And when she arrived home, she was not just as she had left.
The Enour’kai did not take well to losing, and had ambushed the warrior princess when she was alone. There was no opportunity to fight back. The whole pod was destroyed, her body still smoldering when she crashed landed.
She survived the whole war to die (what her people would consider) an unhonourable death. They purposely asked Dick if he would keep the body.
Dick told himself he shouldn’t have been surprised. They both knew that war was deadly and bloody and unforgiving. But she was coming home already. She was almost at his fingertips.
“What do you say about getting lunch, hm?” He asked, tucking a piece of her wild hair behind her ear.
She nodded enthusiastically, her eyes growing wider at the sound of food.
He held his 6 year-old daughter in his arms, balanced on his hip, and smiled. “Say goodbye to Mommy, then we can go.”
“Good-bye-bye, Mommy,” Mar’i said, blowing a wet kiss in his gravestone’s direction.
Dick’s smile faltered a little. The girl barely knew her mother for a year.
“Yes, goodbye now, love,” he whispered.
He walked away with his daughter. Stay with me, he thought. He inwardly laughed at himself.
If only it were that easy.

✘ Blackfire is OPEN.
“As you know, Starfire is a princess of the royal Tamaranean family… and you now know her older sister, the bad seed of the family— Blackfire.”
BIOGRAPHY:
Komand’r is the oldest child born to the king and queen of Tamaran, and the first daughter born into the royal family in over 100 years. On the day of her birth, the Citadel Empire attacked the planet and killed over 3000 citizens. Though this is in no way her fault, she is forever linked to that horrible day and because of this she was treated as a bad omen and often avoided. On top of this, Komand’r was crippled as a child with an incurable illness that took her ability to absorb ultraviolet radiation that allowed most Tamarans to fly and defend themselves. For all of these reasons, the people of Tamaran despise her and even though she is the oldest daughter, her younger sister became the princess over her to keep the prestigious family name going. Because of all of this, she grew to hate her planet, people, family and most of all the princess, her baby sister.
Striking a violent sibling rivalry that continued for years, that ended in her casting her sister, Starfire, away from her planet and to an unknown location she was imprisoned. After years she finally escaped and went to find her sister once again. Arriving where she thought Koriand’r landed, Komand’r used her abilities to destroy everything in her path. Hitting close to home, A.R.G.U.S. intervened. Defusing the fuming princess, they found her intentions, to find her sister. Interested in finding another alien like her, they promised to help as long as she agreed to a ceasefire and join their academy under close watch.
