The Selfish Critters

The Smiling Critters but most of them are self-absorbed and insensitive. Their pendants are shapes (Crafty being an exception)

Dogday

The only one in the group who seem selfless, maybe a bit too much. He does his best to keep his friends together and try to help them get better. Though it has been mentally taxing, he stays determined to fix the broken bonds.

Catnap

He's aware that this friend group is too far gone to fix, but he often dreams of a life where he and the others were happy. So he stays in those days. He starts snapping at anyone who would pull him out of it. This results in Catnap losing touch with reality, with Dogday currently being the only reason he's somewhat grounded

Bubba Bubbaphant

He believes everyone is not as smart as him and he doesn't plan on losing that belief. Closed and reserved, his words are brutal and straight to the point. He would never do anything to help you unless you offer something of worth in return.

Kickin Chicken

A narcissist. A conversation with him will always lead to the topic being about him. Likes being the center of attention and will try to overshadow anybody who tries to take it from him.

Hoppy Hopscotch

A short tempered girl. If things doesn't go her way she throws a fit about it. She's insensitive of other's struggles, often disregarding it as being too emotional or weak.

Bobby Bearhug

She loves everyone! And she wants to show them all how much she loves them! Much to the others dismay. Bobby tends to be very touchy around her friends, saying that it's how she shows her love. If someone were to ask her not to do that, she would get emotional and guilt trip them into taking it back.

Craftycorn

A certain incident scarred her, causing her to shut herself off from the outside. She stays inside her room most of the time, only ever leaving it if she needed something outside. Dogday often comes by to bring her meals and to check on her.

Picky Piggy

Always making sure she looks the best, she often talks down on the appearance of others to make herself look better. Tends to get jealous of anyone prettier than her and will attempt to sabotage them.

Anyways selfish critter au Kickin Chicken x Dogday is actually goated. Yeah yeah I know Kickin was being problematic in the last comic part and half of ya hate em now but thats what we have Dogday for! Kickin clearly care about Dogday and Dogday could do a lot of good for em. In the same way Kickin could do a lot for Dogday whos naivity is a problem. Kicken is there to counter that. They balence each other out and provite something the other need more of. The ship is good okay? i didnt draw Salu for nothing >:(

stannarrator is an odd and confusing ship to me because i can enjoy it but only when it’s not framed as canon. that’s not to say i’m completely against the ship or that i haven’t consumed/made content of their canon selves in the past, but i’ve been doing some thinking and i feel like there’s a lot of pretty concerning aspects to their canon dynamic that are either downplayed or flat-out ignored by the fandom. (fandom mischaracterises characters for the sake of shipping, fork found in kitchen, i know, i know.)

i feel like people tend to reduce them to “toxic yaoi”, which… i mean, “toxic” is accurate, but i feel like the label is generally used to mean an enemies-to-lovers couple who fights often and usually has some kind of sadomasochism involved. this is what i generally see with fanon depictions of them - stanley is a cheeky little brat and the narrator is a cool sexy dom who like ties him up with the adventure line or something. i admit i was very much one of these people for a while. the thing is that they aren’t toxic in the sexy internet sense, their dynamic is genuinely unhealthy and harmful. there’s a massive power imbalance between them - which is very much exploited by the narrator - and while a power imbalance isn’t necessarily a bad thing, the key issue is that stanley is never seen to take the same enjoyment from it as the narrator does. if we take the narrator’s description of his emotions to be true, stanley is often pretty damn terrified by the things that happen to him, and if we take the description to be false, then the narrator still wants to cause suffering. he wants stanley to be afraid, to cower and beg for mercy, to do exactly what he asks of him, no matter what. in the ultra deluxe announcement, stanley runs from the narrator. he tries to be free of him, but there is no freedom to be found. he is trapped.

despite all this, we (the fandom) still like to have stanley be the silly, disobedient, sort-of-masochistic little critter, and i think the main issue is that we project ourselves so much onto him. we disobey the narrator, so naturally stanley must do the same. we play the countdown ending, think “goddamn he sounds hot” (which, i mean, i’m not going to argue with that) and decide that stanley must obviously feel the same way. there isn’t much to his personality in canon, so we decide that that makes him a blank-slate self-insert character, but that means that most stannarrator content ends up feeling more like player x narrator instead, with stanley being merely a vessel through which to enact our own desires.

there’s nothing necessarily wrong with characterising stanley this way, obviously. you can do what you want with him, and that’s the fun of it. it just annoys me when stanley acts as the player generally does, and it’s framed as if this is him, this is absolutely the canon version of his character, because the narrator says stanley makes those choices so obviously this is who he is! what this interpretation completely fails to consider is that, unlike with most video games, stanley and the player are two entirely separate entities. isn’t it so much more interesting to consider the implications of that, or to explore who stanley could be without the player’s influence?

this is why i really like AUs, because you’re awarded a degree of creative freedom that you don’t have when you’re working entirely off canon. want stanley to be a real person, with no one puppeteering him? go for it! make him a mischevious little fellow, because now it is actually him thinking and feeling for himself! you can even find workarounds or solutions for the more problematic elements of their dynamic, by putting them in scenarios where there is no power imbalance (coworker AUs for instance) or getting the narrator to actually acknowledge and rectify his own flaws and cruelty to stanley. the latter i particularly like (and it’s what i’m trying to achieve in my own fic), because it doesn’t deviate too far from canon but still allows for their relationship to get a little healthier. the thing with that though is that it takes Time, and i mean a Lot of time. and even when the narrator has improved as a person, it doesn’t really feel right for them to suddenly jump into a relationship. or even have a relationship. there’s a lot that goes into rebuilding a bond after that sort of treatment, and stanley has every right to not want anything to do with the narrator, whether romantically or at all. i do like the thought of them at least being friends after all that recovery (i’m a sucker for happy endings), but realistically there’s no reason stanley has to fall in love with the narrator.

anyway. yeah. once again, i don’t hate them as a pair, and i completely understand why people portray them the way they do, but it just… bugs me. dunno if this makes sense or if anyone feels the same way about this as i do, but here it is.

BEHOLD…

MY MYTHSWAP AU!!!

So, in this Au, Crafty is the only non-mythical critter, while the other seven are all different kinds of mythical creatures!!!

Here’s each character here!!!

Even if Crafty is a plain ol’ pony in this au, they’re still just as important and loving as the others; in fact, they’re the ✨protagonist✨! They stumbled their way into the Realm of the Myths while taking a stroll as they thought about somewhere they could paint, before they met DogDay and Bobby in the woods. During their three years in the Realm of the Myths, Crafty’s been careful, they’ve been loved, and they’re learning more each day!

DogDay is a Werehound, but instead of every full moon, it’s every Solar Eclipse he turns into a monster, while every Lunar Eclipse, he’s your good ol’ normal sun dog!

His younger sibling, CatNap, is a Sphinx, well, except without the “human face” part, lol… Much like his brother, they, too, can turn into a monster, except it’s more at will, and mostly during waxing crescent moons!

Bobby Bearhug is an Onikuma, although, she did use to be an average critter, like Crafty. She, along with Picky, brings in food for the others every night. She stays close by with CatNap because when she became a demon, he was right there by her side… d’awww!

Kickin’ Chicken is a Cockatrice, and since it doesn’t really specify what kind of dragon the rooster has to be, he’s part leviathan! He’s an expert at surfing, and is basically the “rich, popular kid” trope (except he’s the sweetest to his friends!) He and Bubba were best friends ever since they were toddlers, and Kickin wouldn’t want their flame to extinguish any time soon! He even talks about many different themes whilst baking with his sister, so that he doesn’t get too bored.

Bubba Bubbaphant is a Siren (mainly because none of the mythical elephants didn’t really fit ToT), but instead of singing and testing the limits of his beautiful voice (/j), he infodumps about one’s interests to try reeling them in! The nerd’s a bit meaner in this AU, since ocean sirens are usually that way, but he can tolerate his friends!

Picky Piggy is a Boar; she’s pretty violent, but that doesn’t stop her from having fun with her friends! In fact, she uses her violent tendencies to her advantage whenever she cooks! She’s Crafty’s best friend, and she’s the one who made them their “horn” out of a party hat! Picky’s the (adoptive) older sister of Kickin, and she makes sure he’s healthy, both physically and psychologically! (What a sweet sister… sob…)

And last, but DEFINITELY not the least, Hoppy Hopscotch, the jumping Jackalope! She’s pretty mischievous, in fact, to the point where DogDay made her own Time Out Chair™️! She even steals all of the coffee sometimes, so that she can have more energy than when she’s normally hyperactive; but, she is patient whenever she needs to — in fact, out of all of them, she’s likely the most patient.

BTW!!! You can ship anything in this AU, but I have only 3 simple rules:

Nothing that would be in Alabama

And each ship should be to each character’s romantic interest

Anyways, this is a blog dedicated to Baldi (Baldi's Basics), Miss Circle (FPE), and Miss Delight (Poppy Playtime Chapter 3) questions.

Hello I just want to ask you what are the pros and cons of the smiling critters or poppy playtime fandom?

Cons: I wish I haven't gotten so deep with it. I wish I could've..done more to stay...

But too sensitive Only done it to myself knowing how toxic it can be over time. But every fandom is. I wish they understood how many people feel before judging. Some people in that fandom especially on Twitter judge others and also and huge red flag along with the problematic. I blame myself too much for even thinking our small town AU was good enough to have real friends there. They only care about one thing. Social communicate is lacking so much. Especially on vrchat poppy playtime. It's..horrible on there. But I have some pros about smiling critters and ppt fandom. Allow cyber bullying , bullying to others. But get Blame.. once take action to help knowing that all the fandom. A bunch people on there makes me uncomfortable. That i can't go anywhere without seeing this everyday

Pros: it was an very good fandom. I meet alot people but wouldn't dare call the fake ones as my friends just because I draw catnap and dogday. There are people I do call my main moots. They was there for me forever when I joined and know I should've been more careful. I finally reach to my goal. At first it was good building people up and artists. Now drama let loose too much Idk. It's hard to say many pros especially an artist observed all.

I'm concerned about the proshippers and incest in that fandom as well. Too many was trying to be my friend knowing how problematic they are. Even taking advantage of people that are like me.

I ...love poppy playtime and smiling critters but it just so hard when you trying everyday to draw it but this world now with it is...horrible. I wouldn't mind drawing smiling critters and poppy playtime still but it's...very hard knowing I'm am part of the artists fandom to only make want to leave all the time for just drawing an AU and I don't think my our small town AU or projects au (Safe haven) saldly was misunderstood by... , Is not a problem right?. I'm deeply sorry to my followers and friends. That's my full thoughts about the fandom community. I wish it wasn't the way it was right now. But every fandom like that....

I was heavily inspired to make this into a written form by @doodledoesthing3 , @ninjablasterzx , @daydreamer36 and @guppieishere .

Also one last thing to clear up possible confusion, since I’m so indecisive, HyperHumor has a different backstory in every AU she’s in to specifically fit the context/plot. So this is fresh outta the oven, baby! :]

HyperHumor was created for the sole purpose of being a close friend of the Bubba Bubbaphant character in the Smiling Critters series produced by PlayTime Co., celebrating the new collection of colorful, scented plushies.

They didn’t have to know each other; it was automatic. With no need to understand or know her own identity, or anyone else’s, all she had to do was exist and play her role.

Her first and only appearance took place on the fourth episode, “The Spotlight Shuffle” where she’d reunite with her pachyderm pal and ask him if he’d like to perform with her on a big stand up, which causes him to spend more time with her over his friend group in the process, leaving them to worry if he considers her over them.

23 minutes.

“It’ll be alright. And I can visit you whenever!” Hyper chirped with a bright smile, holding her friend’s hooves. Bubba smiled back in response, “Mhm. And we’ll be here once you do.”

And it was over. All wrapped in a pretty little bow and done with.

She spent the next five years in isolation and silence.

She couldn’t feel anything at first. Her eyes were open, but she couldn’t piece where she was. Her ears barely picking up a single wave of coherent sound. Not that she knew what it would be anyway. There’s only so much one can remember from 23 minutes. A few measures of music, bits of scripted lines, a handful of colors, the elephant’s name for sure…

Hyper shuffled on the ground, struggling to stand up without falling back down. It was weird. Her body felt numb, yet everything hurt. Another thing she wasn’t used to. Back in the cartoon, her home, pain was exceptionally temporary and minor, but here, every waking moment was agonizing.

She felt as if an unbearable weight was keeping her in place although she was certain nothing was near her. Weird. She thought.

Which was weird as well! It’s been so long since she’s even heard her own “voice”. Or thought. Let alone for herself. Everything was usually predetermined to be true and that was who she was. Whatever the creators wanted her to be.

Did she even have control of herself? Are these thoughts even her own?

Every move, every word, every problem, every solution was written and planned. And she was aware of it!

Was this planned too?

Why is she thinking like this then?

Hyper couldn’t recall walking towards the door, she simply found herself there, her hand pressed against the wall that she couldn’t even feel. Her senses were disconnected. Was she… standing? Probably? Maybe? She should be, right? How else could she have gotten there?

And why did her head hurt so much? The constant throbbing sensation made her want to tear her way through her fur and rip her brain out of her skull. Her vision was blurry, everything around her was seemingly fading away into the darkness.

None of it made sense.

What is this place?

Why was she here?

Why does she feel this way?

Her heart rapidly pounded in her chest, her breaths were shallow and uneven, as if daggers were stabbing into her lungs.

She rubbed her temples with her fingers in slow motions, humming something to herself, too tired to form any actual words of consolation.

The more time she spent trying to calm down, the more time she spent fantasizing about being back home. A place she could hardly remember all on its own.

Thinking of things that brought her comfort, helped her forget about the distress she was in in order to stay calm. However, this was always seen as “problematic” according to the creators. They believed that behavior would cause the children to develop unhealthy ways of coping and destroy their mental health. Not that it mattered anymore, right?

It’s not like they can read her mind anyways.

She took slow, deep breaths.

Home.

Home was nice.

Her ears rang, a loud sizzling, high-pitched noise.

They were punishing her for her sinful act.

The walls bore nice messages.

Were there pictures?

Her breathing quickened and heaved. She could barely feel the sweat dripping down her face.

Pictures would be nice.

Maybe she could take pictures of her with her friends and hang them up when she went back.

She rubbed her eyes with her free hand, blinking a few times before everything finally came into focus. Cold sweat ran down her face as it immediately when pale.

Dark. Very dark.

And… red?

She heard voices.

Voices!

People were here!

What are they talking about?

Maybe they can explain what’s happening!

Yes! She could get help!

She had so many questions and—

Wait.

They’re not talking.

Not at all in fact.

Are those…

“S-Screams…?” Hyper muttered to herself in confusion. She shuddered a bit, wincing in pain.

She hadn’t spoken in so long, it scared her how raspy and quiet her voice was.

Suddenly, her hand slipped, the door she happened to lean on swung open much too fast for her to react. She fell face first into the other room. More red. A lot of red. Everywhere.

She was breathing it in!

Her body gave out, her senses intensifying as the situation did.

Screams.

Sobs.

Shrill cries of names.

Thuds.

Slashes.

Splatters.

Roaring.

More screams.

Even faster footsteps.

The last thing she saw before blacking out was a clock dead center across the room, which read 10:13am.
