i dont really know how to word this properly, but sometimes i feel like the love for these characters is a fucking competition.

i hate the idea that people will be like "**I** am bill/pete/jerry/josh's #1 fan!!!!!! nobody else!!!!" im sorry, it just pushes me away from the fandom. and to see people worrying about having to be shit on for having female OC's in the club really pisses me off. gatekeeping isn't it.

i know every fandom is like this. its annoying as hell and i know better to just not post my feelings like this, and to just ignore them, but it makes me hellllllla uncomfortable. it makes me wanna hide.

im genuinely so attached to bill that it's really fucking with me. he's my main comfort, as ridiculous as it sounds. im very mentally ill and lonely, and bill is kind of my "escape" from my stressful life. sometimes it makes me cry, to see myself implode like the fucking titan sub all for a goddamn fictional character. all i think about is him, it's like a fucking parasite eating at my already fucking rotten brain. work? bill. home? bill. hanging with my family? bill. literally everything else? bill. and seeing people wanting to assert themselves as the MAIN fan of that character just gives me the fucking ick. as much as i looooove bill to the point of literal crying fits, im never gonna call myself his biggest fan. (sometimes i call myself his fave but that's more of an in-universe headcanon thing rather than a "he loves ME more!!" thing shhhhb)

anyways, i dont want the love and appreciation for these characters to be a competition. but i have the feeling that it is. and it makes me really sad. this isn't what dorkin wanted.

i know i always stress "no doubles" when it comes to my selfshipping with bill. and i still do...but its kinda ridiculous to assert yourself as THEE #1 fan of a character, and then shoving it into peoples' faces. it feels gross.

i hate hate hate hate hateeee posting about this kind of shit, i wanna keep my account positive, but i genuinely feel like i needed to air out my negative feelings for once in my fucking life.

i am sorry if this is problematic and aggressive. i have strong feelings about these sorts of things. i know none of this matters in real life to some people. but in my boring, lonely ass life, it does matter to me. a whole fucking lot.

i really, REALLY love the eltingville club. but sometimes i feel like its own fandom is what it's criticizing. that's not to say **everyone** in this fandom is like this, i KNOW not all of us are like this. and i really appreciate the people calling this shit out.

with that, i hope i can still continue to post about the eltingville club and not worry about being unworthy.

It's been ages since I've seen Band of Brothers but I'd love to know who your favorite(s) is/are and some headcanons you have for them! 🥰

Ahh Steph, this is such a hard question!! I'm so glad you asked though because I LOVE talking about Band of Brothers. I'm getting my bestie to watch it right now and it's been a whole experience haha!

But if I had to choose a few favorites, here's my lineup:

Ronald Speirs: Listen, the first time I laid eyes on this man, I decided he was the man for me and no one has ever come close in the lineup since.

Dick Winters: A precious angel who has never done anything wrong in his life

Joseph Liebgott: My problematic murder child who I adore

Bill Guarnere: Ride or die for life and I respect the hell out of him for it

Carwood Lipton: He literally did not get paid enough for everything he did and put up with lol

I obviously like the others a lot, but these 5 have a special place in my heart haha! That being said, here are some general headcanons + a few relationship headcanons (since you didn’t specify haha) that I have about them!

Ronald Speirs:

-History NERD who collects a bunch of rare volumes of books

-Is surprisingly affectionate with friends, family, and relationships??

-Has a collection of baseball cards

-Remembers, like, one song on the piano and it’s Fur Elise. -Is into writing love letters and keeps every single letter he’s ever been sent. Sentimental KING.

Dick Winters:

-Is really into baths with essential oils and has a whole skin care routine. -Was in the Boy Scouts of America and was an Eagle Scout. -Likes to see museums and definitely would go on a museum date where he info-dumps. -Goes to rallies and marches for women’s rights because he drinks his respect women juice. -Has a great sense of fashion and consistently gives the best compliments.

Joseph Liebgott:

-Likes cooking with his sisters and misses getting to spend time with them

-Memorizes music really quickly so he always knows his S/O’s fave songs

-Competitive relationships where he can have fun with his S/O is even better. -Once punched a guy in the face because said guy insulted his little sister. -Failed his driving test twice in high school but lied about it and faked forms to be a cab driver.

Bill Guarnere:

-Never had a girlfriend in high school because all of his older sisters warned him against it. -Was a football player who went to state. -Learned how to swim late in life and is only slightly embarrassed by it. -Was voted most charismatic when he graduated. And also most kissable haha. -Has a slightly guilty conscience and can never lie to his momma. Just the facts.

Carwood Lipton:

-Reads up on social issues and tries to stay informed to have opinions. -Volunteers his time at soup kitchens and domestic violence shelters. -Keeps a lock of his S/O’s hair in a locket that he wears. -Wants to be a dad so badly one day. -Has always easily made friends and everyone just likes him a lot.

bakugo & kaiser — as much of a disaster as it sounds to have these two together… i think they might actually pick each other. neither of them WANTS to pick ANYBODY ofc but given that they have to, i think they'd both want to go with someone they know will help them win. as ridiculous as they believe the whole thing is, they still don't wanna lose LOL and who better to go with than the other insanely competitive blond guy?? they'll get along just long enough to make it work

oikawa & jean — oikawa also wants to win and lowkey so does jean so i think they'd try to team up. they have serious beef with team bakukaiser and want to crush them by any means necessary so they'll try to stop bitching at each other and work together

sunday & wriothesley — i feel like sunday would approach wriothesley tbh. wrio is a sensible guy but also really physically capable so while sunday will act graciously no matter where he ends up, he still has preferences. i think there's also a tiny bit of a secret competitive streak within him that wants to win so having wriothesley as a teammate would give him an edge while also sparing his sanity from dealing with someone like gojo or bakugo.

gojo & yuuta — speaking of gojo, there are a few who are immediately thinking "i want gojo" when told to pair up LMFAO but when i announce the "no powers" rules they're a little less enthusiastic sodifjioafj he's still a really good competitor but is a fucking doofus. and i think he would want to pair up with yuuta for funsies

sakura & toji — so sakura's first choice would probably be umemiya ofc but tbh i'm having this vision of him being poached by toji for some reason. toji thinks he's a strong little dude and while toji himself he doesn't necessarily need help from anybody, he decides it can't hurt to have the extra boost. and lowkey i think sakura probably reminds toji of himself a little bit in some ways so there's like a subconscious bias lmao

denki & ryusui — these two are exploding with enthusiasm over this whole thing. they're getting hyped up and convincing themselves that they're gonna win and are definitely going to have fun regardless

belphie & tanjiro — belphie is not overly excited about this activity and is sort of quietly hoping that he'll be able to get out of it somehow but then tanjiro approaches like "belphie! would you like to be my partner?" because he sees him all alone and belphie can't so no because tanjiro is so nice oaifjidsofj he's also strong af which will balance out belphie's lazy ass (tho tanjiro's encouragement actually convinces belphie to put in effort)

megumi & vash — this duo is entertaining yet somewhat cute in my mind. megumi's another one who's not really actively trying to seek out anyone in particular and vash is happy to just sort of go wherever, so they end up as a team when vash asks. they aren't half bad either once they get coordinated.

suga & umemiya — and last but not least: the Fathers. they're both just happy to be here and are waiting to see who might need a partner at the end. they're used to kinda being the mediators and dealing with the more… problematic individuals, but are pleased to see that everyone else has managed to pair up already, so THEY get to team up in the end!! it's a refreshing change of pace for them to not have to wrangle brats for once but they're still keeping an eye out from a distance

and the winners???? lowkey my heart kinda wants to say sakura and toji for some reason. i feel like they sorta need it LOL like it would be a little healing for them, especially as individuals who are used to fighting tooth and nail for everything, particularly against others who have more power/privilege. i think they managed to strategize and coordinate well for this one.

About the “Z learning from Nolan and Toms omissions “ Anon ask: For context, There were lot people on X, Reddit and Instagram, when the news came out that Z was involved being like “Oh that explains why Tom got the role” “She got him the role” and some similar posts, celebrating Z working with Rob again (as if this is not Robs and Tom 3 collaboration) and so and so. I always give the MASSIVE side eye when people online or on Twitter all collectively hate on an actor, like Tom, who's nice, genuine, down to earth, and doesn't do anything problematic, but yet, people hate on the person just for no good reason. 🤨 That always seems very suspicious to me.

That's how you know that the people's hatred or bullying is invalid and actually says more about those people than it does the actor.

Tom is massively famous, so of course you're going to have people who love him to death, but also so people who just hate him simply for breathing. 🙄

egg is not objectively or even subjectively sexy but that's what i think makes him so great for this competition. he is an 18 year old boy with severe abandonment issues and no powers in a world that largely relies on them. consequently, in order to stay both wanted and useful, he has taken to eating the corpses of people that this girl named eve kills, in order for them to not be traced back to her. keep in mind, eve did Not ask this of him: she just told him to give her a reason to keep him around, and this is the best thing egg came up with. because egg might seem silly, a little happy go lucky, a little dumb, but he still understands one thing: that no one can leave you if they've grown dependent on, or if they're afraid of, what you've become. which i personally just think is hot. It pisses me the fuck off how some zukka shipers talk bad about zutara just to turn around and use tropes zutarians created (ambassador katara x fire lord zuko) or they don't talk bad about zutara BUT they make katara into an homophobe who hates zuko and ohhh poor zuko, sokka needs to defend him! Which is a 100 times worse btw, I know we all have our headcanons and shit but that's lowkey misogynist as hell. I'm saying this as a zukka and zutara shiper, I don't interact much with the fandom beyond fanfics and fanarts but what I consume is honestly a lot so this is simply from my experience in the last four years in the fandom. zukka became more prominent after 2020 and it's amazing to see content about them but some stans need to back off (just like some homophobic ZK shipers)

I am pretty sure Ambassador Sokka is popular outside of Zukka (because of Korra and him being shown as a water tribe representative in flashbacks). Also, the earliest Ambassador Sokka Zukka fic I have found is 2008? The same year as the earliest Ambassador Katara Zutara fic I found. Fire Lady Katara was way more of a prevalent thing with (early) Zutara. First fic I found being a 2006 fic. And both Ambassadors becoming more prevalent in 2017-2019 likely due atla renaissance and the realization of the problematic nature of Fire Lady Katara and such. I used to read Zutara fic way back when and I don't remember Ambassador Katara being a big thing at all (I do remember Fire Lady Katara being pretty a pretty popular trope in art and fic). I genuinely think these both became popular at the same time. I don't think it is a Zutara trope. (As someone who has been 'in the fandom' a lot longer than 4 years). I actually encountered it with Zukka first.

The Homophobic Katara thing is (well was) a joke. I think it was even started by a Katara fan, but some people took it way too far. And the 'Katara hates poor Zuko' did not emerge originally from Zukka fics. It was a gen fic Zuko whump trope (Season 3 era pre Southern Raiders, usually). There is probably still a lot of it, honestly (I was whump fan so I found a lot of it, did not like the treatment of Katara in a lot of those because I found her anger entirely valid. But sometimes people react strongly to perceived mistreatment of their fave.)

Misogyny has always been a big problem in this fandom. Zutaras towards Mai used to be one of the biggest ones back when Zutara was pretty much undisputed as the biggest ship (biggest competition being Kataang which was more prevalent with casual enjoyers). It's not a Zukka thing.

I have not seen as bad stuff with Zukka as I did with Zutara back in the day, although I will admit current Zutara is different to the Zutara I encountered back then. (I used to read a decent amount of Zutara because there is some really great stuff but I kept finding Mai/Aang and occasionally Jet hate fics and I like all of those characters. So I stopped seeking them out after a while. Still haunted by my fave Zutara fic though :))

Hi LL, since I have seen you talking about fandom lately, I want your advice on this. I have been in various fandoms for almost 11 years (since grade 7), the longest is ARMY (BTS), and most recently is Thai BL. I apologize if this is worded poorly because English is my second language.

How to manage your feelings when people in your fandom say they hate or dislike your other faves (not for their problematic behaviors, just general like not vibing with, skill issues, company management issues, unpleasant encounters with fans, etc)? It got better in recent years in K-pop, but I still get a little sad when people who are fans of my faves hate/dislike my other faves or my other fandom. Especially in Thai BL, some CPs are small and niche so I can hardly find fans that like all/ some CPs I like or are indifferent about other CPs at least. A fan account I have followed to get updates for a long time recently said they hate my other faves so sadly I have to unfollow them :( I'm well aware that this is my personal problem and no one is liked by everyone and they are competitors. But still, I'd love some advice on how to navigate fandom with fewer feelings involved since it's not good for my mental health and ruin my enjoyment in fandom.

How to not invest too much and get anxious when your faves are potentially being screwed over by their company's incompetency? Same thing with the above, especially when fans complain and protest the company and the company is actually incompetent.

How do you build a plot to a fic and is there any way to keep track and finish writing your fics? I have an idea, wrote 2 scenes but now I don't know what to do next to make it a full fic?

1.I have to say my ability to compartmentalize and to not get too invested in others feelings is a couple of things:

One, I’ve had time and experience. Baby fan LL struggled with this a lot, too. The longer you practice feeling your feelings, which are normal. It’s normal to feel sad when someone says something you like is terrible. But there was a definite ship and let ship and My Kink Is Not Your Kink And That’s Okay vibe that existed in my younger fandom era. I think it was also easier to avoid stuff you didn’t want to see because a lot of our fan sites when I was young were much more compartmentalized, with different sites, different forums, threads. Livejournal and Dreamwidth let you have your personal journal but also join community journals.

I think beyond remembering that not everyone has to like everything, it’s important to keep in mind the quote from Wicked (2024) “Everyone knows the best way to unite people is to give them a common enemy” and I think that is a major problem in celebrity & fan culture in general. Many people get sucked deep into their fandom and see other fandoms as competition and threats, which allows them to unite deeper. But you can’t necessarily change that behavior in people. You can only manage yourself.

So, some of my favorite strategies to manage my feelings include staying calm by breathing, literally grounding myself, doing some physical activity, or taking an internet/fandom break, or even going back and listening/watching your favorite stuff to focus on why you love it, start a conversation with someone who shares your love of the thing, or working on something creative are all great ways to stay grounded and connected. Find ways to engage with your favorite things that are constructive and fulfilling.

2. Oh 💜💜💜 the way I can’t even guess what Thai CP you’re talking about because I read widely and nearly all of the fandoms are all convinced their faves are being neglected by their companies. And like, they can’t all be the most mistreated.

I think if there’s serious mistreatment, like the stuff with Rii7e where the company let fans harass a member, that’s worth fans calling out. Or the cases of actors and actresses in China that are forced to work while very ill, or the guy they cast in an idol contest who wasn’t auditioning and then wouldn’t let leave.

I think when it comes to Thai BL fans, it’s good to think about the fact that there are many factors that go into getting different jobs, be they series, or fanmeets - these take money and time and energy. As much as we would love to be able to make art for arts sake, as long as we live in a capitalist world, people need to make enough money to live and pay people. It it comes to brand deal jobs: there’s only so many jobs for a large market of people, which is fine. Not everyone wants to be doing brand deals or has to all the time. They can choose not to and focus on other things.

I also think people should think on a systems level. GMMTV and One31 and Change5261 are part of a large conglomerate with many resources. Other companies like Idol Factory and YWBP are very small and have limited resources because they’ve leveraged the owner’s capital to exist. Every time I see interfans take Idol Factory to task for not having stuff translated immediately when they’ve relied on small contracted teams of fan translators to do their translating makes me angry because Idol Factory doesn’t spend as much money on like fanmeets as they do on production values for their shows.

Sometimes upsetting things happen, but thinking about why helps. I know there was a big disappointment in the BillyBabe camp over the cancelled fanmeet that was also going to be a musical: but musicals are way more expensive and ambitious than your general fanmeet. They weren’t just going to sing a couple of songs. There was going to be sets, costumes, a script - of course that concept was going to cost more for tickets and be less benefits because you were going to get a larger more involved show. And then because Idol Factory is small and was trying to get a project that honestly was probably to big to handle in that short an out of time…I’m not surprised they bit off more than they could chew that time. They think big.

Again, this gets back to the point above, around a common enemy and acknowledging how all fandoms can get sucked into this mentality helps me. As does reminding myself that most of these artists and companies are run by people. That sometime there are trade offs and mistakes but a lot of decisions aren’t them actually hating your faves. All choices have consequences and everyone who works on something deserves to get paid and people should work however much they want. I actually worry a lot more about overwork than not getting enough work!

And you know, if that’s a lot of what the fandom is talking about maybe don’t add to the noise. Don’t feel you have to join in because everyone else is.

3. Tips for fanfic:

Oh nonny. It’s been so long since I completed something. But I do like to think about where I want the story to go, what is the problem my characters are facing, What am I trying to convey to my audience. Sometimes I go back and watch key scenes of the source material for inspiration and to keep my characters consistent.

Taking quick notes and fleshing them out later. Figuring out if you are a description first or a dialogue first writer.

Reading also helps, fic but also books you love. Listening to music. Taking the time to watch people and places and work on describing them. Using brackets or a place holder sentence and move on rather than get stuck in the perfect thing to say.

Sometimes finding someone to talk your ideas out with helps. Most of my favorite stories I’ve written someone else has read my or pushed me in my thinking.

Uileac Korviridi

As a cavalryman of the Bremish Army, Uileac is good at two things: shooting people and riding horses. He is also good at embarrassing himself, particularly when it comes to love. Slim and slender, he resents his small stature, especially because it means that his sister Cerie, who is four years younger than him, is nearly his same height. Damn those male Korviridi genes!

Uileac is known for being even-tempered, competitive, sarcastic, and protective. He is loyal to the point that sometimes it clouds his judgment and gets him into trouble, but it's counterbalanced by his kindness toward those he loves most.

Fun fact: Uileac can swim, but he doesn't like to because his hair gets all gross and problematic. He'd rather sit on the shore and throw dry reeds at Orrinir. Once, he even made a flimsy little bow out of a bendy twig and a piece of twine so he could launch the reeds better.

Orrinir Relickim

Orrinir Relickim was a Future Boy: his parents gave him up to the War Academy when he was only six years old, where he worked as a domestic servant until he was old enough to join classes. As such, he has grown up his entire life around warfare and has the emotional wounds to match. He joined Infantry thanks to his excellent swordsmanship and his willingness to get up close and personal with the enemy, even if it means putting himself in danger.

A large, muscular man, Orrinir is earnest and affectionate, though he can bluster with the best of them. He often uses his loud, brash nature to hide the fact that he is a deeply emotional person whose feelings are easily hurt. A history of abandonment makes him cling to those he loves and follow them without question.

Fun fact: Once, Uileac told Orrinir that his father used to make peppermint cookies for their horses when he was a child. Orrinir scoured every recipe book he could find, then surprised Uileac with cookies for his horse, Erix, during Feast of the Horse.

Cerie Korviridi

Cerie is quite young during 9 Years Yearning, so we don't get to see a lot of her, but she grows exponentially during the rest of the series. Though she is quite timid due to trauma in the first book, her true personality - that of a sharp-tongued, stubborn, but loyal and determined woman - starts to shine through near the end.

Just as reserved and pragmatic as her older brother Uileac, Cerie makes up for her small form with a sharp personality. She is intensely devoted to the things she cares about - her High Poetry, family, and country - and will destroy anything she needs to in order to keep those things safe. Cerie may not be outwardly emotional most of the time, but her expressive poetry gives away all those feelings she can't bear to show.

Fun fact: Cerie has always wanted her own horse, but Uileac is very adamant that she can only have one when she's shown herself to be a very, very good equestrian. But he's also selfish AF with letting her ride Erix ... a true catch-22 ....

another unpopular opinion related to my mr schue take: ppl who are big fans of glee but genuinely hate a character for being “problematic”…. i find them very questionable. like its glee… everyyyyy single character did “problematic” things lol, it’s okay to say you just don’t like a character or find them annoying. obviously use your critical thinking skills but its never that serious

i love to pick apart glee ad nauseam but even the “likeable” characters of the show did questionable things from time to time….like. u’ll overlook ur faves but u draw the line with that character for doing THAT?? u arent morally superior i promise its not a competition i proooomiiiise……

Confession: I think this might be last post ever on tumblr, I think I might leave tumblr and social media in general. I feel like its become way too toxic and just not worth the effort nor do I feel happy using it, its just so menatally draining. In addition Im getting a little fed up of fandoms and stan culture, it used to be fairly a fun space but now it feels like a space where hatred, racism, toxicity have kinda infiltrated. Things like movies or just enjoying actors or whatever have become less and less interesting it no longer feels like celebrating but like we are in competition, like the discourse has become lets compare and be hurtful to others and their opinions and I just think fandoms have just been too invasive, too parasocial and I dont want to be in that space anymore.

I do want to say I enjoyed your blog and love how you try to bring as much joy and positivity to this space. You are one of few bright spots and keep doing what you do and thank you for cheering me up at the times I felt a little down . Its been fun but I think its time for me to bid a permanent farewell. First of all, thank you so much for your confession. I really appreciate your honesty on this topic, because I really do feel like fandom/stan culture has really gotten to a point that it's become exhausting in many fandoms... even when the celebrities themselves aren't even problematic! 🤷🏾‍♀️

It's become toxic for sure. 😞 And I, too, don't really appreciate the constant comparisons, the putting down of other actors just to raise up your faves, the spreading of lies and falsehoods in order to make other celebrities look bad, the recurring nonstop complaints about an actor's film career even though their career is going just fine, the immediate "cancel" culture just because someone isn't perfect 100% of the time, the jealousy and downplaying of another actor's talents just because it's not your fave in the role, the annoying film twitter debates, the use of RT as the almighty "gold standard" in a filming project's validity, the over-FOCUS of film critics and their reviews of certain films instead of just watching the film yourself and forming your OWN opinions, the constant bickering among various fandoms and stan wars, the overly-anxious fans who get nervous if their fave isn't in a new casting announcement every 2 months, etc.... The list goes on and on and on....

It's just exhausting.... 😫 And I feel like I see a lot of these comments bts because ppl can literally hide behind Anon on my blog and say whatever they want. 😩

So yea girl...I totally feel you. ❤️

I'm hoping you won't stay away forever, but I totally encourage and support you in taking a break away from here (or social media in general) if that's what you need to stay healthy and emotionally and mentally upbuilt. 🥰

blorbo (favorite character, character I think about the most) – Do I even have to say it? Suiren. Of course it’s Suiren. Who else would it be? Who else could POSSIBLY measure up to how much this feral wet cat of a traumatised lesbian means to me?? Nobody, absolutely nobody, nobody can compare , it’s not even a competition at this point. She genuinely has lived in my head rent free for almost 6 years now, thinking about her has got me through some hard shit, I draw her so much I could do it with my eyes closed… truly, she is the most important girl in the world and I love her beyond words <3

scrunkly (my "baby", character that gives me cuteness aggression, character that is So Shaped) – Another obvious answer, but Ehuang. Come onl I literally call her Sweet Baby Ehuang, who else could I have picked? Specifically in that piece where she’s wrapped in The Blanket held by her mama. She’s the sweetest, most adorable little baby to have ever existed and I can’t believe it’s been almost a year since we created her. But also, honourable mention goes to Midori and Emran (yes, specifically him, not Aiza. Or at least not Lady Aiza, perhaps Acolyte Aiza triggers the same feelings, I’ll have to see if I ever draw her), because little Midori is as adorable as her daughter and Emran is who makes me think “scrunkly” whenever I look at him, he’s the So Shaped one <3 And.. my original Malina art remains my utmost favourite way I’ve ever drawn a face, there’s more character packed in there than in most of my other pieces combined, so perhaps she counts here too? Oh! Oh!! And Kumisai!!! I still love the way I drew her, very cute, very scrunkly 💚💚

scrimblo bimblo (underrated/underappreciated fave) – The Brothel Gang!! All of them at once, yes. They deserve so much more attention and love (and material for me to get off to 🤭) and like.. the only downside to having so many OCs is that there simply isn’t enough time to pay due attention to them all 😔 And just so we’re clear, Mekhali is very much included in this, because somehow, even though they’re the one who started this OC branch, they’ve become even less relevant than the girls :’) More brothel shenanigans content with the six of them and Mekhali and baby Kumisai and adorably awkward Summiya when???

glup shitto (obscure fave, character that can appear in the background for 0.2 seconds and I won't shut up about it for a week) – LIU AND NUYING AND AFARIN. THE DEAD MOM CLUB. YES YES I GET IT SUNAT IS UNIQUELY FASCINATING AND MAKES US CHEW ON DRYWALL BUT WHERE’S THE LOVE FOR THE REST OF THEM?? JUST BECAUSE THEY CANNOT PROVIDE EMOTIONAL REUNION SHENANIGANS DOESN’T MAKE THEM ANY LESS IMPORTANT, YOU HEAR ME??? (but also, honourable mentions of course go to their respective husbands, Bingwen and Cadeo and Siamak, since I’m weak for good fathers in media, it’s spiritually healing. And Cadeo WILL provide emotional reunion shenanigans at some point even if it kills me!! [And.. Ming-Hua was only 55 when Ehuang was born. Who’s to say that Cadeo can’t be around to meet his great granddaughter, the one named after the same legend as his late wife?? I’m making myself emotional thinking about this, fuck 😭]. As for the really, REALLY obscure honourable mentions, Shezan’s siblings. I’m extremely curious about them and what their lives ended up as.)

poor little meow meow ("problematic"/unpopular/controversial/otherwise pathetic fave) – HAYAAAAA. I know I’m the one who created her and made her as awful as she is, but… once upon a time she was just a fourteen year old girl who loved her Ma very much and had her entire world ripped away from her in a matter of weeks, with no one left to help her raise her little brother or to work so she can keep going to school and meeting with her friends or to simply comfort her as she deals with the biggest loss a child can experience 😭😭😭 Her past and what shaped her and how she became what she is and the way her future plays out makes me genuinely, genuinely insane, and I need to get back to my fic about her one of these days. But given that she is, in fact, a terrible person who, at least in the main verse, abused her nieces for sixteen years.. she is very much “problematic” and controversial 😅

horse plinko (character I would torment for fun, for whatever reason) – Jia ☠️ She gave me whumperflies once and I was never normal about her again, thanks Kat. She didn’t have to suffer the way she did, but my love for causing characters pain took over and I’m very, very obsessed with her fate and the aftermath and the eventual reunion with Aiza. I even drew her with flogging scars once, I am truly beyond saving when it comes to her. But also Summiya, because somehow my verdict of “a good dicking would fix her” turned into the most visceral and insanity inducing exploration of a character’s breakdown and fall from grace than I have ever seen before or since, and I LOVE shattering that porcelain doll and watching her struggle to put the pieces back together, knowing she will never again be able to hide the cracks >:)

eeby deeby (character I would send to superhell) – Jusamah and Himman. No other commentary necessary, I believe (but fun fact: when I answered this for MC some years ago I put Suleiman and Ibrahim in this same category, and given that they’re essentially the same characters as the previously mentioned ones in a different font… the years pass, the fandom changes, and yet Nia’s hatred of assholes ruining the lives of every woman they know stays the same 😂). Oh, and Daigo. He can rot 😊

Kudos to you all here at JoeMoi. Because accountability in this fandom, in particular, and in general, is a rarity and scarce. I was shocked to see you guys say something about it on this blog, of all places. As much hate as you all get from other blogs and anons, you have always been more than gracious and understanding towards Joseph.

I think the hate and criticism you guys get have been unjustified, especially given the current context of the discussion. He should be called out, and I'm not sorry for criticizing his career choices and affiliations. He's 30 years old, wealthy, and fully capable of saying no. You shouldn't have to constantly fight an uphill battle to justify stanning your fave. Just my unasked-for observations and opinions as a non-JQ fan.

I think people are afraid to speak up “against” their fave in this fandom. They want to be seen as their number one fan who loves and supports every single thing their fave does. And it’s like…that’s not what being a fan is about. It’s not a competition with who may love him more. It’s about enjoying the roles he takes on that you like. You don’t have to enjoy every role he takes on. I’m sure there are plenty of fans of his who haven’t seen every single thing he’s been in and that’s totally okay. You can love him for Eddie and Eddie only. That’s okay. You can love him for his less than 5 mins of screen time on Game of Thrones, and that’s okay!

Bottom line is, you don’t have to be excited for every role he gets announced for, and you don’t have to support every role he gets announced for. But at the same time, when he gets announced for a role where he’s working with a problematic director…you should be able to speak up against it without people dogpiling you for not agreeing with them about how he can do no wrong. He’s human. That’s literally what being a human is all about, fucking up. For his sake, I hope it’s a good role, but also fuck the director and I won’t be watching it lol I hope he moves on from that role very quickly and doesn’t work with that director again.

And tbh I think we should put this topic to bed and move on to something else.
