Title: Red Mermaid Medium: Digital Painting, Procreate App I’m practicing more with digital painting. One thing I have a hard time drawing are lips and noses. I could never get them right. MOODBOARD
Task
We were all learning how to use Photoshop, by creating a Moodboard using some of the most basic, beginner features.
For my moodboard, the theme/location is Kagawa Prefecture, Japan. A friend and I were doing a cute project over the summer, that involved a lot of research on Kagawa, so the images were already available to me.
Process
Images
I placed all my needed images onto a new canvas (they all appeared as Smart Objects). I rearranged and resized them all, so they could have a sense of flow in regards to colour, terrain and shape. As most of the images have a sky, it was difficult to arrange them vertically, so I stuck with having horizontal harmony, more than anything. Looking back, it takes me a few seconds to find the seems between some of the images.
I created a Selective Colour Correction Layer and manipulated the Magentas, Cyans/Blues and greens to match more. I created a Vibrance Correction Layer and set the Vibrance at +57
Focal Emblem
In front, I used the Kagawa flap emblem, with the original image being the forest green background with the emblem in white. I turned this into a Smart Object and used the Magic Wand to cut out the background. I created a new layer, which turned into a clipping mask and made it the forest green. I went back to the emblem’s layer, changed it to a Divide Layer and presented it at 45% Opacity.
I duplicated the original emblem layer, turned it into a Linear Dodge (Add) layer and at 15%. I did this so the emblem would match the colours of the background and keep the colour scheme consistent.
Floating Images
For the three floating Images, I went with a bowl of Udon (egg-noodle dish Kagawa is famous for), the Unity plate, The Statue of Shinsetsu na Aoonikun. To make these, I converted each into Smart Objects, supplied a Layer Mask, traced around the edges (Using the Pen Tool, Polygon Lasso and Magic Wand) and then Free Transformed them into where I wanted them.
What I like
I like that I used a colour scheme and stuck with it as much as I could. There’s a sense of flow within some images. The moodboard as a whole, showcases the rural prefecture and how green and vibrant the location is.
What Can I Work On?
Maybe making the images bigger and not using so many? The floating objects distract away from and even cover some of the landscapes. Possibly placing each image to the closest relevant to it’s terrain/location/colour, rather than thinking of only the shapes.
I could use what Gary taught us in class, rather than sprinting ahead and using different features I’m well-acquainted with.

Update on work
Processimages
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sketchup is being re developed from my previous example.
now with cylindrical structures and on the chauvel place site.
there i will experiment with scale, volume and position in site.
I have been challenged making the object look as similar as possible to that of the actual sculpture, as in the weaving an alternating direction of the sculpture itself. also the texture of the work.
