Hey! I hope it isn't rude or anything, but I wanted to ask your opinion on the Psychoanuts Art Book. I'm thinking of getting it for myself but the price tag hurts a bit, and Im wary of buying something this expensive without having an idea of how good it is.

Ps. I don't really care about spoilers, so whatever you want to say about the book will be helpful, part of me really wants to know if there's concept art for PSI King's Sensorium bc it's my favorite level

definitely not rude at all!! I'd be happy to give a brief review of the book as is

first of all, this is quite possibly the biggest art book in my whole collection, page count AND size wise. I'm not sure if it's because most of my other art books are for movies & tv shows, while this is a video game, but a lot of the former cap out at around 200 pages

this book has 400 pages, and a lot of those pages are almost just exclusively showing off the art so you get a lot of really satisfying 2 page spreads

it's really thick tall and heavy with a solid, cool looking hard cover, nice binding & good quality paper, looking at the art itself is really pleasing

honestly one of my only complaints is that reading it is a bit annoying physically bc i have to find a good position to comfortably put it in 😂 its so heavy!! and if you do get it be sure to find a tall bookshelf for it, mine just barely fits so it is possible

the contents themselves are basically all I'd been hoping for, there's soooo much artwork and a lot of commentary both from the author herself + loads from the development staff.

notable example that i liked a lot: the folks double fine had consulted for the mental health sensitivity provide commentary for the new mental enemies, very illuminating stuff!

also do NOT worry, they have Psi King Sensorium concept art!

The contents they cover here are really thorough, there's a little bit here for everyone!

5 stars, I only mind a little bit that it got delayed a few times because I think the book itself is 100% worth the price if you're invested in this game and interested at all in video game development

[side note: having watched the psychodessy is not necessary but makes reading the art book extra interesting bc I recognize a lot of the development team's names now! shout out to gigi's super cute art style i love those tiny raz's]

I don't wanna be like. Disappointing but I don't really have any headcanons for psychoanuts characters. Ask me about Rayman and I'll be like "alright so heres my 40 ton book regarding all the random shit I've written" but as for psychonauts? no

I have a lot of headcanons regarding sasha and milla (more milla than sasha though... way more than sasha) but it's mainly just relationship stuff or pure EVIL (and by evil i mean trauma. its fun pumping trauma into them)

but that's about it... reallly embarrassing that I have tons of stuff for milla but not for like... my second favorite PN character? 😭

I like this idea :^) the implication i could extrapolate from it is that psitanium/psilirium are from sburb's meteors hitting the earth

and then a Huge Wholloping Meteor strikes the motherlobe but instead of being a doomsday scenario it just means the entire chunk of land there is sent to the sburb zone.

alternatively, very silly idea but: PSYCHOANUTS 3: LETS GO INSIDE THE BRAIN OF THE UNIVERSE? WHICH IS A FROG? and play sburb

ultimately i think like. the how and why's here just need to be credible ennoooouuugh so that I can justify picking god tiers for everyone and their mom. which i'll do another time when i remember to. ive done it for the interns before so

i wanna make my own sburb au with the psychonauts cast just as they are (so not trolls) and someone finds a copy of the game at the whispering rock summer camp

The Lives and Times of Razputin Vodello - Chapter 3

From the desk of Sasha Nein

Sasha looked his report over a last time, searching for any unlikely spelling errors. He took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. He leaned back in his chair, looking at the ceiling of the little office area of his lab. It had been a long, stressful week that ended in a unsatisfying conclusion, that had left him with more questions than answers. And the reason why it frustrated him so much, was that he would have nothing to give Razputin. No answers, no clue to his past and no reason why he was left alone. Sasha sighed and grabbed his glass of whiskey, downing the last bit of it. He normally wouldn't indulge in drinking on the job, but considering the week he had, he was certain an exception could be made. And if not, how was it the old expression went? 'Better to ask forgiveness than permission'?

A knock on the door brought him out of his thoughts.

“MAIL ROUND!” the distinctive voice of Morceau "Morry" Oleander called out. “You in here, Nein?!”

“I am! Come in, Oleander.” Sasha responded.

The sound of his door opening, followed by a grunt. Soon Oleander appeared in view, holding a few letters and a magazine in hand. “Good, you are the last one on my list and I didn't fancy going around the 'lobe trying to track your German ass down. My feet are hurting enough as it is.” He threw the letters on the table and pointed to the couch. “Permission to put my feet up?”

“At ease, Soldier.” Sasha answered with a soft chuckle.

“That's a copy, Nein.” Oleander plopped down with a sigh, propping his feet up on the table.  “I hate this little 'side job'. We really need to hire a new Mail Clerk one of these days. Ever since Benson retired, the whole mail room's been a mess.”

“We're all on the roster, Oleander. This week it's your turn.” Sasha remarked.

“Well, either they hire someone soon, or they'll allow me to use a scooter to deliver these.”

Sasha pointed at the whiskey bottle on his desk. “Can I offer you a drink?”

Oleander held his hands up. “Nope, thanks for the offer, but I'm more a Martini guy anyway.” Sasha turned back to his report. Oleander craned his neck to peer over Sasha's shoulder. “That about the Razputin Kid?”

“It is”

Oleander shook his head and chuckled. “Brave little soldier, that one.” he said with a soft smile. “Darn shame what happened to him, whatever is was.”

“That was for the investigation to find out.”

“I heard it was a bust.” Oleander crossed his arms. “So, no leads of any kind, right?”

“Correct.”

Oleander grumbled. “Well, If there was any kind of Criminal element to this, they'll be long gone by now.”

“That's what I fear as well.” Sasha agreed.

“And if it were neglectful parents, well....” Oleander paused, lost in thoughts.

Sasha looked up from his report, slight concern on his face. “Morceau?”

Oleander looked up. “I...have decided to take a some time of from active duty...” he began. “...to visit one of our trauma centers in the city for a couple of weeks. Undergo some ….Wellness checks of the ….therapeutic kind.”

This peeked Sasha interest. “Whatever for?”

“Seeing what's happened to this kid, what he's going through at the moment... It all just started to remind me of ….” he paused again. “It ...loosened some ...bad things up her in the old noggin'.” he tapped his helmet with a dry chuckle. “Things I thought I had ...dealt with a long time ago. A long, long time ago. And I like to sort them out now, before they start to mess with my mind later on.”

Sasha folded his hands on his lap. “May I inquire what about?”

Oleander chuckled. “Sorry Nein, I'm just not ready to reveal such sensitive information.” He paused once more. “...Yet.”

Sasha nodded. “Understandable. And I think it's quite admirable that you do this.” Sasha said. “Not everyone of us is quite willing to admit such a thing.”

Oleander stood up. “Yeah ...well, anyway I'm heading out.” he straightened his helmet. “I still need to ask The Grand Head permission for said excursion.”

“I believe it won't be a problem.” Sasha said with a smile. “Truman is quite lenient towards Agents who are willing to seek out help for their Mental problems.”

“That's what I'm hoping for.” Oleander gave a salute. “See you later, Nein. Give my regards to Milla and the kid.”

“I shall, Morry.” Sasha said with a smile. “Good luck.”

Oleander turned on his heels and made his way out the office. Sasha turned once more back to his report. He nodded with a satisfied hum and placed the report into an envelope. “Better get this to the Grand Head as soon as possible.” He stood up and made his way out of his lab.  “But before I do that, I think I'll visit Milla and Razputin first.”
